David Pa’aluhi to Leave Program?

42

Back to discussing football. Last week we learned we’d be losing Keith Pankey for the season. This week it appears David Pa’aluhi is leaving the program to move back to Hawaii and pursue a career in the military.

While not a finalized decision, if Pa’aluhi does leave, the depth chart takes a serious blow. There is more depth on the outside than in the middle. My guess is that Tony Wilson would get the nod in the middle since he was set to be 2nd team last year before going down. Robinson might get a (brief) look, but he had better bulk up quite a bit–last season he was completely over matched.  He’ll likely be 2nd string, though, and that is scary. Not sure Akuna is ready, physically, for the middle. Doctor, Welch, Unga–they all seem better suited for the outside rather than stopping runs between the tackles.

Clearly the best case scenario is that Pa’aluhi has a change of heart and remains with the team, as he was a very nice player last year. But the fact that he’s considering this new and completely different life leads me to believe he’s disenchanted on a level beyond repair. Even if he does return, physically, how much effort will he give on the field?

  1. lol. all of your blogs come from beaverblitz… do you just read beaverblitz all day long, get home from work, and then post something here? stalker… hurry and delete this post. don’t respond! bwahahahahahahaha

  2. Actually overheard some guys donned with beaver hats in a restaurant today talking about someone leaving. Now I know. Thanks for the update angry.

  3. Do you guys think I should ban all the blitz trolls? Personally, I think they ruin the discussion, so while I don’t like banning, I think it’s due in this case since they’re not offering opinions but instead just inciting.

    • The other option is a registration/email system. I guess I can do that, but I know personally I hate logging into blogs to post so I’d rather not make others have to do it.

    • Whatever you want to do. This is why I quit going to the Blogs on Oregon Live, as it was half Ducks interjecting shit talking instead of people actually discussing Oregon State Football and any rumors or stories fans have heard.

Now we have Oregon State fans from another blog spending all their time just talking shit on yet another Oregon State Blog. If it was truly just a disagreement fine, that happens here too. Howevever, it’s just people that can’t get enough beating their own kids and wife, and now have to go to the Bars and pick up someone to take home to beat.

The trolling is ruining blogs all over the place, in all aspects. Maybe a login or something, and if there is a troll that doesn’t care to talk about Beaver Sports, but instead how stupid they think someone elses blog is, then delete them. I just want to hear some outside ideas, opinions and rumors so I don’t have to rely on the Main Stream Media. Drives me fucking bonkers. I don’t even care if someone reads the blog, then bashes the shit out of it on their own blog. Just dont’ interject your bullshit on the blog that I am trying to actually have a Beavers Sports discussion on. Jesus. People are just American Idol, Reality TV obsessed with pissing on other people’s parades, and more interested in watching someone get pissed on than being in one anymore.

That’s it for my people are sicked and f’d up. Do what you need to do.

    • I honestly don’t think its productive. Most sites get ruined by trolls, IF you let them. I scan, and if its not intended to be a productive comment about the topic or theme, I just move on down to the next post. I enjoy this site and a high percentage of the discussion here.

  4. maybe a separate page for trolls? that way they aren’t actually banned but are sat down in the corner to pout and they can even go see their words and stroke their puny egos. and if by chance they make a coherent remark, i can go read it. of course i know nothing about blogs and if this is possible or practical.

i rarely comment here but i like to get info or different views and the trollers just irritate those endeavors. pisses me off that they feed off my frustration.

  5. Well, my concern is simple, is he running to something he sees as better (a career in the military), or is he running away from something that he is unhappy or disappointed in (the team or school)? Some times the “fit” just does not work and that is ok, but I hope he sees somthing in the service and that is the goal rather than just “leaving” the team. And is there a potential chemistry issue or is this isolated. I want him to stay, but I wish him well in whatever choice he makes.

  6. Wow…you should change this blog to “beaverblitz part II”. Everytime news breaks on blitz you can check here 15 minutes after to read the same update lol. I guess thats good for you cheapos who dont want to pay for blitz. If I were you guys I would love angrys blog too, you get blitz premium content for free.

  7. Sorry… I was thinking the Blazers’ second round steal in last year’s draft is gonna get more time now. I loved Cunningham’s game at Villanova, and I can’t wait to see it expand with more time. This trade also has coincidental timing with news that Petteri Koponen is now NBA ready.

    Hmmm?

    Anyway…

What? Bubba’s leaving? I wonder what Darkins is thinking of his position change now.

I think we’ll be fine with Wilson coming back this spring, but he’ll be in the same place Bubba was last spring. I’d rather have Bubba back first.

Barring that… I think Riley will move Feti or Keo to middle to fill in depth. Robinson should really take a red shirt year. He just got pushed around in the middle last year. I think Bibbee has more talent than either Feti or Keo, but he’s going to most likely take a year at the training table as well… not that he really needs too much.

Here’s another name to consider… Zane Norris. I know… I know. It’s silly to think someone named Norris could walk on at OSU and produce. I know. I’m crazy.

Whatever Bubba chooses to do, I wish him well. Military service is one of the only choices kids have in Hawai’i after HS. But I only ever met a couple of locals who ever drew a billet on the rock. Maybe he lost a good friend or relative. Who knows?

  8. Do what you want with the nutso Blitzers. They’re fun to beat around the head, but it’s just way too easy sometimes. I’m used to someone with actual intelligence responding with tact and biting humor.

Instead we get this, “Oh, you’re so obsessed with us that you control our simple collective mind and make us write silly, humorless utterances of futility… on your blog… because you’re obsessed… with us.”

I can also see how readers can get annoyed by these mental midgets and their incoherent whining.

    • Yeah, I’m not sure, so for now I’ll let them stay. It’s cute how obsessed they are. I feel the discussion has shifted to them rather than football, however. Maybe once the season starts that will change; these are the hot stove months and maybe making fun of these blitzers is a good way to pass the time.

  9. On a positive note…

I noticed that Wazzu hired Dave Ungerer as ST/RB coach.

I think it takes one meeting–maybe two–before Bishop Sankey de-commits.

    • Where do you think ESPN gets their info. They are obviously patroling the Blitz for their info.

Ugly for the Duckies. The Ugly Duckings if you will. It’s like they are suffering from USC syndrome without the benefits of a dynasty.

And with Phil’s $ now being more evently distributed to the local economy and citizens of the great state of Oregon, where will they get all this bail money?

Sorry. It just tickles me a bit. Not that the Beavs have a history of Angels and Man of the Year finalists, but they have had to get some of these kids to compete.

  10. Not to pile on, but…
    http://sportsbybrooks.com/source-masoli-theft-case-in-front-of-grand-jury-27845

There are too many variables in this case. I think at the very least he will be charged with second degree criminal trespass (Class C misdemeanor). At the most he could be charged with second degree theft (Class A misdemeanor) and second degree burglary (Class C felony).

Even though the victim was present and the two fled with a stolen item, I don’t think they push for robbery. But you never know. My sister would know better than I would. She’s a prosecutor. I’ll ask her tomorrow when I see her.

For all we know it could go nowhere. That’s kind of what I thought would happen at first. But if it’s going to a grand jury there must be something going on.

    • “For all we know it could go nowhere. That’s kind of what I thought would happen at first. But if it’s going to a grand jury there must be something going on.”

      Exactly.

My brother is an attorney as well, but every time I ask him advice on these things he says law has become so specialized that only someone who deals with these things daily would know for sure.

There’s probably a lot of haggling (and payoffs) going on right now behind the scenes trying to get the charges lessened and that’s why the public is on hold.

  11. This would be a huge blow. I know you’re not a Pankey fan – I’m lukewarm at best with him…and even though he’s not Pac-10 starter material in my opinion, you can never have too much depth at the OLB/MLB/S positions. Losing 2 guys in this core before spring ball isn’t good. DP is a huge asset to our defense.

At least they’re not sitting in the clink…(couldn’t help myself)

  12. I’m thinking the McCants position change idea is more rational now. That would give MR more reason to try Murphy at RB first.

If McCants can put the ball on the deck from MLB as much as he does from the RB position, he would be a first round draft pick in 2011.

And the numbers really bear out angry’s dislike for Pankey’s game. He has 44 solo tackles and 53 assisted tackles in three years. Those totals come out to one good season for an average linebacker… or three good years from an average DT.

There’s a reason safeties are getting big numbers over the last couple years, and it’s that out LB crew has been below the average set at the beginning of the decade.

  13. As for the real topic of this thread, I’d hate to see Pa’aluhi leave the program. I think he shows considerable promise at the MLB and had a good season last year. Not only did he appear to hold the middle well, he seemed to have more speed than the MLB’s of recent past.

I think its a bit late in McCant’s career to move him and expect him to be as effective or more so than a Tony Wilson. Even if Wilson IS coming back from injury, he’s not adjusting to a position change. He’s probably rehabbed well, added muscle, and rarin’ to go. Plus, he get to play behind Paea.

If Miller and LaGrone make the strides that they should this year, and safeties are improving this offseason, I think Wilson will be fine. I thought I read recently on OregonLive that MR said Collins has been working hard and is already making the kind of growth in strength and conditioning that will improve his play. He said it as if it was something people will really notice.

    • Yes, I really hope he doesn’t leave. He was a playmaker, too, grabbing some INTs and getting after the QB. Very good for a young player. He has a shot at the NFL, so this military idea would have to be vocational (i.e. from the latin meaning “calling”) rather than just a job or whim type of thing.

As far as Collins–I almost feel he needs to lose some muscle mass while keeping his strength. He is so bulky; it’s almost as if that bulk gets in the way at times and makes him stiff. Players seemed to bounce off him too much.

  14. According to Cliffy, he left the program.

“Starting MLB David Pa’aluhi left the Oregon State football team to join the military, coach Mike Riley announced Thursday.”
