Carrying forward from the previous thread:
No idea if either party has interest, but an option to bolster NW recruiting has presented itself, as UW’s new staff has cut ties with recruiting staffer Thomas Ford.
He’s the brother of Tracy Ford who runs the NWs biggest 7v7 team TeamFSP. They’ve had a pretty strong influence on players out of the state of Washington as well as some from Oregon.
https://twitter.com/CoachTFord/status/1479206525616877569?s=20
What has me watching this development is Ive noticed Tracy Ford has ben more complementary towards OSU publicly, lately.
In the past, it was almost like only oregon and UW existed. And he also alluded to a big shakeup coming in the NW when it comes to state of Washington recruiting.
Of course it could also mean he’s headed to oregon. Which would be terrible for OSU. Hopefully Smith has been busy in the background carving out some resources to bring in a guy like Thomas.

Bruce Feldman reporting he is joining Idaho’s staff.
Ffs….the Beavs blow more layups than the MBB team
Looks like he’ll get a positional coach role at Idaho, rather than just a recruiting role. I dont think he would have been qualified for an on-field position at OSU, but he certainly could have helped in an off field position.
Why?
That is, why would Bruce Feldman want to go to Moscow, Idaho, and the Kibby Dome?
Btw….1st x3
Equals null
Well, every single OSU sports teams that had competitions this week are postponed. Men’s bball, women’s bball, gymnastics, wrestling.
Somehow COVID is impacting sports more this year than last year. Doubt a full season will be played for any winter sport.
Thank God the Beavers got one of the early bowl games and played!
I wish they had actually shown up for the game though.
It might have been better not to play
They need to stop testing asymptomatic people.
I should have purchased shares of Big Test before Omicron hit
Ha! No kidding. Companies must be making a killing on this. I’m curious how many people getting testing are because it’s some sort of requirement for travel, work, etc. vs the overly anxious people who get one every 4 days just in case. Even if you’re symptomatic, it wouldn’t change anything – just keep your ass at home and don’t spread it around.
And throw in medical procedure. I’ve had a back issue that is finally squared away but had multiple cortisone injections etc…. This past year. Always have to test 2 days before, no matter what. Flgt was my big stock play on this and it did good, got out when it was time, but it’s being killed like most others the past month(ish). Big bull cycle is coming for a lot of things whether it’s a matter of days/weeks/month? But there is a good opportunity fairly soon to at least make 25% on a low end
You went from testing complaints to stock tips really quick here.
It does make a difference for those in the ‘at risk’ category, in that therapeutics such as monoclonal antibodies are indicated for people at risk for more serious disease who have mild to moderate symptoms, and there is a time constraint. If an ‘at risk’ individual with mild to moderate symptoms waited it out at home and then began to develop more serious symptoms on, say, day 10 of the illness requiring hospitalization, then they are shit out of luck as they are no longer a candidate for that treatment.

“Guess who’s back, back again”
Neat deal….
Well golly gee…
Wonder which Beavers will end up in that league?
Hip hip….
Who has some gum?
Would make sense if was the Washington Generals. (You’ve got to be a certain age for that bon mot)
I always wondered how they recruited for the Generals.
Nope. Riley is Mr. Mediocre, so he’s too good for the Washington Generals.
Well, this implosion is starting to drag on – you’d think with the amount of prep time, they could have made sure the field was completely covered.
It was
Barnes called the implosion a “seminal” moment for Beaver nation…
Parker said implosions in the history of OSU campus are very rare…asked Barnes if he’d ever been part of an implosion, “No!” Ha!
The implosion and collapse should be good fodder for internet memes.
“The Greatest Attack on our Stadium Since The Civil War”
I also imagine that video will be shown throughout the country on local news tonight – good video of explosions, fires, cute animals at zoos – it doesn’t matter if it has zero relevance to the local market – local news likes good video.
With how the press box went backwards and how much of the concrete is still standing I wonder if the implosion was less than successful? Is this another luck o’da Beavs?
Was wondering the same about the press box. Surprised how intact it stayed until it flipped down to the ground. Good bones
Yeah that whole west side looked solid. Maybe it went to plan though, I’m no expert on demolition. Just seemed a little odd. I imagine on a structure that old there is a bit of unknown when it comes to demo.
I suspect it went as planned. It didn’t appear any explosives were used in the press box to make it collapse. It fell away from the field and can now easily be reached w/those large track hoes to pull it apart.
That’s no way to speak about a lady student/athlete!
But good to see they’re helping out with the project
Nah, I think it went just how it should. The explosives disconnect the superstructure from the concrete, and severed the pile supports so it folded out and back. They’ll start sorting out recyclables and trash, then they’ll chew up those concrete supports in no time. Long stick excavators with demo jaws will turn it into rubble then they’ll sift through with magnets to remove all the rebar.
Anyway, looked like a successful step in the demo process.
I was referring to the parts of the tarp that appear to have blown open, exposing part of the field – it’s all moot though with the grandstand falling backwards. I have to admit though – I was kind of hoping the roof of it would have been collapsed on top of everything like a house of cards. Those spindley rods that appeared to hold the roof up were stronger than they looked.
I can say it was a loud boom that carried through out the city.
Anybody else think it’s odd, how invisible Jonathan Smith has been since the bowl game? Like today, for instance. Seems like he would at least make an appearance of some sort. The demo guys kept calling Scott Barmes “coach” when getting him prepped to hit the button today.
eh it’s been really slow everywhere. Hopefully he’s out recruiting. With few targets out there, he can give them more attention or turn to the 2023 class. Really need to lock up Dorman as the QB of the future. He posted a workout video recently and was wearing a beavs hat.
Guarantee Mike Riley and Gary Andersen would have been made available for some type of football promo on the livestream in the leadup to the implosion.
There was plenty of dead air to fill on the livestream, before the implosion happened. Not sure why they wouldnt take advantage of all those extra eyeballs on the program.
Sounds like the seeds of an exciting Jonathan Smith CONSPIRACY THEORY
I’m going with plastic surgery amd he needs time away from cameras to heal. He’ll show up next season with a thicker fuller head of hair and huge pecs.
He’s getting his programming updated to be a little bit more human during press conferences.
Recalibrating the analytics, perhaps?
^^^^Hahaha….loading, loading ( big swirling circle as the programmers wait for JS to reboot)….
Maybe show some highlights from the 6-0 home schedule…
Yes, don’t show the late season implosion at the implosion
It has not been slow everywhere. Transfers are committing, coaching hires are happening. It’s bad enough when teams just maintain in the offseason, but it’s really bad when you maintain or go backwards and aren’t doing much about it. Nothing about a lb coach hire, nothing about filling the needs on defense. My only hope is Smith seems to pull transfers out of his backside so maybe something is in the works and we just don’t know about it.
Slow everywhere at OSU. There’s not a lot left to do. With more than a few guys choosing to return and few transfers out, there might not be anymore scholarships available. Until spring ball ends, there won’t be much transfer activity.
Lb coach should be hired in the next two weeks. The afca convention is coming up soon and that’s where most of the networking and hiring takes place.
Really need to hire someone who is stronger as a recruiter vs coach.
Angy, do you think Boeing is the worst company in history?
In the year since, Washington’s twin tech giants, Amazon and Microsoft, have continued to donate generously to both parties. But neither company has made a single donation to any of the 147 Republican members of Congress who voted, after the attack on the Capitol, to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Boeing, after a brief pause, has shown no hesitation in supporting the Republican legislators who voted against certifying the presidential election of Joe Biden.
Good grief is all I can say (to you).
In recent history, yes, but not close all time. IBM (i.e. selling gear to Nazis), Exxon and BP for the environmental damage, coal industry, Enron, etc. Tobacco companies have to be up there, too, as they knew about cancer 30-40 years prior to the masses. I’d also put EA sports and Comcast in the top 10.
Where does MyPillow rank?
Somewhere on Earth 2
Tobacco is the worst. Knowingly addicting and working to keep people addicted. Now they are in e cigs so it never stops.
I definitely don’t disagree about Tobacco companies being the worst due to knowingly selling an addictive and lethal product to the public. I lost my Dad and step Dad to lung cancer. But at this point, it’s really on the people who knowingly start smoking and become addicted. Everyone knows tobacco is addictive and everyone knows it will most likely cause you a horrible death at some point, but people keep doing it. Humans are incredibly effective at ignoring inconvenient facts or making themselves believe it doesn’t apply to them.
Pfizer, no question.
https://abcnews.go.com/Business/pfizer-fined-23-billion-illegal-marketing-off-label/story?id=8477617
Tip of the iceberg in terms of crimes (no, they are not related to the vaccines).
Purdue Pharma belongs in the conversation for the oxycontin mess.
Agreed.
Take a look around opensecrets at who these scumbags paid off to get and stay where they were. On the off chance that you think any politician gives a shit about anything but themselves and their owners that’ll put that to rest.
Boeing is in the defense contract business. It’s safe to assume that some of those politicians are in on making defense contract decisions, so they need to be bought.
The implosion makes USA today:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/pac12/2022/01/07/oregon-state-reser-stadium-implosion/9132667002/
At least some positive language about the future facility, too bad they didn’t include some graphics on the new facilities.
Speaking of companies, what are you guys investing in on the recent dip?
Intel is my big new one. MU as well.
Hanging on Amd, nvda. One newer sort of off the wall one I got involved with is bird. Only got that as I really like the product and recently dudes shoes just sold for 10 billion…. My thought there is these shoes are much better than those. Kind of a weird play for me. Also CUBE waiting for a nice bounce. Bros also lots of potential there I feel
Nice. Like those picks. INTC has fallen behind the times a bit, but they probably aren’t going anywhere, and the price is right.
I think weed stocks are finally worth a look. It’s funny, everyone loved them when they had no profits and low revenue, and now that the companies actually have massive profits and revenue, nobody is interested.
That’s a really good point, I need to do some DD on some weed stocks. I’ve had some in the past like canopy growth and sundial? But very short term
Curious to hear some thoughts on this as well
One more transfer RB in the portal today that OSU is already pursuing.
Deondre Jackson from aTm.
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2020/deondre-jackson-195672
Any word if we’re pursuing either the Miami or UCLA DL who recently entered the portal?
Strictly based on recent follows, i’m not seeing it. But coach Adams does already follow both guys, and cosch KVA also already follows the UCLA guy, Salavea.
Where I do see alot of effort(besides RB) is with edge rushers. Lots of new follows with OLB/DE type transfers.
RB doesn’t really make much sense to me unless they aren’t impressed with Newell’s development. RB has been one of the top recruits in all of Smith’s classes and then you add in the big time transfers of Lowe and Fenwick it just seems puzzling to me. Pretty much any position on defense makes sense to pursue. They definitely need to find someone who can pressure the QB consistently especially with AHM gone. Hopefully the Florida transfer can be that guy. You have the big mystery of Gumbs which doesn’t seem like you can count on at all. Hickel and Malaki-donaldson are intriguing but not sure they will be ready physically and mentally to make a big impact in their first year.
I see another RB added to the list being pursued. Boise St transfer Andrew VanBuren
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2018/andrew-vanburen-103849
Another president?
Looking at the demo results now. Crews already in there cleaning up the mess.
I know they said there wouldn’t be temporary stands on the west side. Did they say how the press box and coaches box will work next year? I wouldn’t think they’d coach from a suite. Wonder where tv and radio guys get to sit.
Didn’t you hear? Beavers are playing all of their home games at Corvallis high school next year.
Parker said their will be some sort of temporary press box erected on the west side for games during the contruction period. So probably similar situation for the coaching staffs.
A little surprising, WSU QB Jayden DeLaura is in the portal.
Maybe we should snatch him up so he cant beat us next year
Yes please.
Really? His game against us was one of his best all season. His attitude reminds me of Seth Collins and he was the least accurate QB in the conference last year.
Pass.
I’ve only seen him against us.
He would be a much better fit in our offense and with the coaching of Lindgren and Smith. Has a lot of tools to succeed. He’s nothing like seth idk where you are getting that.
He’s talented, but just seems like a volatile guy. Performances are up and down and his emotions are always out there on display (including some embarrassing showboating).
Yeah, we don’t need any players starting brawls and shoving other players from the back on TV. Embarrassing
Pretty please we could rock with him
Based on Nicebeavers transfer watch, looks like the Beavs are very serious about adding a RB.
2021 season had 521 rushes and Baylor took 227. With Kipper apparently returning, next year should see a similar if not more amount.
None of the returnees fit the profile as the “#1” guy. But Baylor didn’t really fit that either.
The returnees –
Fenwick – He played as advertised. Bowling ball of a RB who can take advantage of a worn down defense. A very healthy 5.7 yards per carry. The question is can he take the starting role? Can he be a 20 carry per game guy?
Lowe – Secure in his scatback role but unlikely to be an every down back. Offense will have to be innovative to give him around 10 touches per game.
Newell – Spring ball will be huge for him. What can he really do? The potential is still there.
Collins – Profiles similar to Lowe. Scat back role where he can get the ball in space. Played on the scout team all year. Should get a lot of looks in spring ball. Transferring never made sense as Fenwick and Lowe are both entering their 5th years and will probably move on after. RB job is wide open then.
Martinez – Likely Redshirt. I never expect a true frosh to come in and make an impact.
A couple walk ons but they aren’t factors.
Based on this, I can see why the coaching staff is looking for another back for depth or to compete for the starting role. Only two guys come back with significant experience. One or two injures and all of a sudden the RB room is very thin.
A guy like Valladay might make sense with one year of eligibility if the coaches don’t think any of the returnees can handle the #1 role. He’s had two 1000 yard seasons and probably would have got another if the 2020 season wasn’t shortened. Otherwise the Minnesota RB may make more sense if the coaches know Fenwick and Lowe plan to move on after next season.
Similarly, last year i questioned why they went after Noyer. Then it was revealed that Gulbranson had shoulder surgery and Summer proved that Gebbia wasnt healthy enough to play. So who knows. Maybe one or more guys are injured, or someone is transferring out and we just dont know yet.
Fenwich used his free transfer year already, so wouldnt make sense for him to leave.
So Newell and Collins might be guys to watch in that regard, if we indeed do bring in a transfer.
Also could mean we’re covering our bases just in case the need presents itself.
Had a brief interaction with Brent Berry on the tweet account tonight. Pretty cool that he actually took the time to engage even and still seems to be interested in OSU athletics

I wonder if ithe implosion will exorcise some of the demons that have haunted the beavers over the past decade? The ghost of big boy pants, gee golly neat deal Riley, avazanno I banged a lot of cheer leaders, et al. When the new side is complete and ready to go, they should hire a clergy to bless the stadium and free it from all future ill advised 4th down attempts not.to mention duck fan attempts to burn down the stadium. Go beavs and it does look like I’ll have a fee more seasons left in me as the covid didn’t kill me just yet so eff you serial downvoter!
Graves comment after ducks loss to Stanford, “we didn’t play our best game……” Stanford had 18 turnovers and several of those just sloppy ball handling so Stanford didn’t play their best game either. Plus, no real home court advantage for Stanford either with no fans in the arena except player’s families. Stanford’s defense was stifling and the ducks poor shooting % was the cause of that. While Stanford has a very good team, I don’t recall seeing a Stanford team ever being that careless with the ball.
The Ducks are just now getting healthy too. 3 starters out and haven’t played together since the first game.
I hope the Beavs don’t plan on scheduling North Dakota State any time soon.
David lose set to leave beavs for Idaho DLine job per Bruce Feldman
That’s good! Always want to see staffers move on up. They will be guys to watch in the future
Yeah, but Beavs are worse. Thats a big hit to recruiting. So far this offeason, we continue to slide backwards
Meanwhile, the ducks, USC and zona bringing in several transfers while the beavers are setting on the sidelines watching other teams get better…
How’s that a hit to recruiting? He’s not allowed to recruit as an off field assistant.
For the past few years, he’s been on the front line of staff scouring the portal for transfers and making initial contact. Has also been a big piece of HS scouting. And much of the time, the transfers we’ve ended up landing have passed through him first, before we end up closing the deal.
Isn’t that Doctor’s job??
Last year Doctor became a recruiting coordinator(Guinta’s old position)
Prior to that he was more similar to Lose
I had lost track of Noah Togiai, surprised to see him getting some snaps tonight for the Eagles. Of course, Luck O’ the Beavs, he got called for a blatant hold. No catches in his career as yet.
Deion Sanders lands another top recruit. Apparently #4 WR and #44 prospect overall in 2022.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2022/01/08/kevin-coleman-commits-jackson-state-football-deion-sanders/9146366002/
Nice that the Quacks lost out on him. This is all a little bizarre though. What’s the end game, Jackson St moves up to FBS at some point?
More like Sanders will move up to FBS.
There’s not one. Sanders is a narcissist and the players are definitely getting nice NIL deals. Everyone wins until they stop winning and the party stops.
That or Sanders moves up to FBS with a desperate program and gets exposed
The elephant in the room is that these elite players will not be competing against high-level competition. Hell, Jackson lost to Louisiana-Monroe this past season, who is not even a very good GOF team. They also were blown out by a 6-5 MEAC team in their bowl game. The MEAC is considering the better HBC league. I guess it does boil down to NIL and Prime’s coaching.
Looks like Montana State lost to North Dakota State 38-10 in the FCS championship. Any chance Montana State beats the Beavers in Portland next fall? OSU will have Boise State and Fresno State before Montana State. After Montana State, its USC @ Reser and its 26K 2022 capacity. MSU looks like the cliche “trap game.”
For sure. MSU also travels really well to Portland. Any time MSU plays PSU, it looks like an MSU home game. And with this being a nuetral site game, you’d think they’ll take up half of the seats at Providence Park pretty easily.
It makes no sense for OSU to ever play the Montana schools. There’s no recruiting angle, they’re always good teams and those schools will always treat a Pac12 matchup like their Super Bowl.
Didn’t watch all the highlights, but apparently ND ran on MSU. I hope OSU gets its RB rotation figured out by the end of fall camp. I’m not convinced Fenwick is a true #1, he certainly doesn’t run as hard (despite his size) as Baylor or have his burst.
North Dakota State football plays Arizona @ Arizona , Sept 2022 – 1st time in 6 years NDSU has played against a ‘power 5’ team. Wonder if AZ will pay to play.
They probably get pretty reasonable flights to Portland and make a weekend out if it. I hope OSU fans make it feel like a homefield(?).
“ Any chance Montana State beats the Beavers in Portland next fall? ”
Very good chance depending on what Montana State has as a returning core.
I could see OSU starting out 3-0 or 0-3.
The margin for error is razor thin
Read about the championship game. Their starting FR QB was injured on the first drive, and their offense wasn’t likely the same. So he should start against the Beavers after an offseason of recovery. Not sure about how intact the rest of the starting lineup will be.
Sport columns say uninjured starting quarterback wouldn’t have mattered for long. Game was ‘won in the trenches – offensive line -a wide wall – three players recruited from small towns in North Dakota.” Do OSU’s recruiters ever venture there?
Funny to see oregon’s new DB coach, who formerly coach at Colorado, is now backfilling the oregon roster with Colorado DBs.
And that’s exciting news to duck fans, that they’re basically going to have a defense made up of Colorado and UW transfers next year. 2 teams that went 4-8 last year.
Scooooooooooo
But how many stars are those players?
Couple of 3 star DBs have decommitted from CO so far, but havent officially committed to oregon. And the one who has committed to oregon was honorable mention Pac12 conference last year. Keeping in mind, Sam Noyer was 2nd team Pac12 the year before, I cant out alot of stock in honorable mention lists. Basically means you were an upper classman who played alot.
Dont get me wrong. OSU would be thrilled to be pulling these guys in, and we’re not.
Just more a commentary on where oregon is as a program going into next season. Their talent level will be mid Pac12, with a few star players but mostly average. That’s the plus side the rotating door for their coaching staff every 3 years
A program can do a lot with well-coached, “legitimate” 3* talent. A defensive specialist like Lanning could optimize their abilities.
Yet beat our team.
Sounds like Michael Pitre will be interviewing for Nebraska’s RB job next week.
Too bad we dont have a spot for him, but I like Steward.
Wilner speculates WSU could wind up with a better QB next year, and one of the better QBs in the PAC:
“Cameron Ward, has entered the transfer portal. He’s one of the top passers in the country — not just in the FCS but all of Division I.
The 247Sports rating services lists Ward as the No. 3 quarterback in the portal, behind only Caleb Williams, formerly of Oklahoma, and Quinn Ewers, formerly of Ohio State. Ward is rated higher than Spencer Rattler (ex-Oklahoma) and Kedon Slovis (ex-USC).”
Ward entered the glory home a day after his OC was hired away by WSU…
Wilner closes with the Reser implosion….

RIP Bob Saget?
That’s out of left field
Looks like you were lucky to see him, Whiskey
Yeah. Saw that on the news this evening.
I’m guessing he had a heart attack. RIP funny man.
Chargers trailing by 3 points midway thru the third quarter, 4th and 1 from their own 18 yard line and chargers HC does a Smith gamble and UT gets stuffed for a loss and Raidahs kick a FG to go up by 6. Wow, just wow. In a game where the winner advances and loser season ends, how stupid was a call like that?
It gets stuffed. …..
As a Raider fan, had a good chuckle at the decision
Vidlak signs with Boise st

Lame
https://boisestate.rivals.com/news/boise-state-adds-oregon-state-qb-transfer
Really strange you would transfer from your home state school after just 1 year to a smaller conference out of state especially when there isn’t a real entrenched starter. Too bad as he was just starting to grow into his body so his ceiling could be pretty high. Seems like it could be one of those situations where they would’ve had a much better career if they stayed at OSU. Then again if they sign Dorman and he ends up being the future that maybe screws him. Just seems like he’s quitting before the competition even started for him.
There’s always going to be competition and unknowns (injuries, transfers), so it does seem odd. I think the guys that love to compete and are willing to work don’t shy away from competition. They sometimes leave if there isn’t fair competition and performance-based playing time. I wonder if Vidlak feels like he won’t get a fair shake against Nolan and Gulbranson? Or maybe its just that Nolan has potentially two years left and is the “perceived” starter for those two years?
I Hope Vidlak starts at Reser next year. Next chance for Beavers to face him is @ BSU in 2024.
I think Bachmeier is still the starter next year, assuming he’s healthy. It’s a great system for Vidlak though, he could really tear it (and the beavs) up.
Leads me to believe that they basically told him that Nolan/Gebbia/Gulbranson are way ahead of him and they’re gonna let them battle it out for the job next year, so he wasn’t gonna have a good shot to start for 3 seasons. If so, I hope they got it right. I hope they aren’t hitching all the wagons on Nolan.
If I was him I would think I had as good of chance as anyone. Nolan didn’t prove to me that he’s a consistent starter and Gebbia and Gulbranson haven’t shown that they’re healthy and back to their pre injury form yet. A transfer after spring camp would’ve made more sense to see where you truly stand and just how healthy that room actually is.
@Bleed, I think a lot of fans have that mindset. So what did the coaches tell him for him to decide I’m going to leave. I don’t think he is scared of competition. Unless he is a 5 star prospect, I really doubt he was thinking I’m coming in and starting my first or second year or I’m out of here. Something happened where he decided I’m ready to go now. I think it was back around Thanksgiving that he was ready to enter the portal but hung around a few more weeks.
Apparently his parents want to move out of Oregon to either Montana or Idaho.
His younher brother is also committed to one of the Idaho schools, so looks like theyre moving to Idaho
Why move to Idaho when Idaho will move to you! Just give it a couple of years.
I was futzing around on YT tonight, and they recommended this video. It sounded interesting, so I started watching…could stop. Really cool footage of the old QBs. If you have some free time it’s a good watch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i88NYbk–2w
Speaking of old NFL history, I was listening to a podcast the other night and they were talking about how the NFL doesnt own(or at least for a long time didnt own) a copy of SuperBowl I on video. I guess they had it on video at one point, but accidentally recorded over it, because at the time, tape was rare and not easy to find.
But some family actually had a vintage betamax copy ofSuperbowl I they recorded live that day, and they tried to extort the NFL for a hefty payday to get a copy of their tape. But the NFL wasnt having that.
I need to go look up the story because I’m probably leaving out some details.
Betamax didn’t hit the home market until 1975, the first SB was in 1967. Maybe they filmed the TV with their 8-millimeter camera?
Yeah probably Super 8. I didn’t realize Norm Van Brocklin was a Duck. I always heard that name growing up. He might have the worst stats of any HOF QB.
Nice find, Angry. Some early QB’s I was not familiar with. It’s bizarre that the NFL single-game passing record still dates back to 1951 and the record holder was a Quack!
Jim Harbaugh to NFL rumors are picking up steam. That would be an interesting ending to the “Jim just wants to make Michigan great again” narrative: leaving them in the lurch at the tail end of the coaching carousel. I guess they could potentially lure a big candidate that has been waiting for the “right fit” like Campbell or Fickell, but those guys didn’t budge for USC and Notre Dame and I’m not sure Michigan is in a different category.
Dart to OSU please. I liked his game last year. Glad we didn’t face him.
If Smith were to land any of the top transfer QBs, it would be a huge step forward. I think we’ve all seen how far a high ceiling QB can take a team.
Nolan is at or very close to his ceiling. Gebbia is also nearing his top.
Gulbranson is a mystery since he hasn’t played much. If they land Dorman, he’s still not going to play until 2024 if he takes a redshirt. So finding someone to bridge that gap would be huge.
This is why the Vidlak debacle is just terrible. You don’t have a great future at qb (what we have seen from Chance and Tristan isn’t anything special) and yet you don’t give a healthy, young prospect even 2nd team reps. I hope he is amazing at Boise State and Lindgren wakes up.
Never before has the transfer of a 4th-string QB generated such hand-wringing.
It’s the handling of it. No guarantees Sam would be a starter someday but to not even give him the reps is just dumb. Especially when Gebbia and Gulbranson are hurt and transfer you bring is clearly not going to do anything in the 1 year he has left. Doesn’t that worry you about future qb handlings? You can’t be afraid to hurt someones feelings by saying hey we got a young guy but he has a lot of talent, let’s get him some reps.
Kid wasn’t ready to play. It’s a bummer to lose Vidlak but I don’t blame the coaches for not getting him reps. He didn’t show enough in practice to earn that opportunity. If he would have stuck around, he would have had an opportunity to complete for a job as a sophomore. Instead, he’ll be able to complete for time next year at Boise St. so be it
He wasn’t ready to play but Noyer was?
I hope Vidlak is the next Zabranski.
Lindgren did follow Dart yhis morning. And usually Lindgren is very inactive on social media. Think this is his first new follow in months.
Bad news, everybody else wants Dart too.
Good news, we have a pretty open path to earning the starting job.
Dart had a UCLA offer out of HS. Seems like due to location, starting job availability, and past relationship, they might be the ones to beat.
I’m leaning toward BYU being the favorite.
Was already one of their top targets.
Grew up about 30 minutes from Provo, so it’s a return home.
I wonder what Dart would think about the Beavers odd rotations of WRs and the lack of continuity there? I think top-level QBs want clear rotations and go-to guys.
We know Lindgren is willing to bring in a transfer qb and start them even if they suck so Dart should know he’d be the clear starter day one.
I still have a hard time understanding how our QB recruiting has been so shaky the last 4 years(Dorman being the one exception where one of our early targets may end up at OSU, though signing day is a year away)
With having both HC and OC being former QBs, why cant we close deals? It’s a starting Pac12 job, even if it’s not a big market. It should be our strongest position groups.
Could be that JS and Lindgren just aren’t good recruiters?
What is Lindgren like as a recruiter? Serious question, anyone have a list of recruits he has pulled in for OSU, other than Noyer?
If he can’t recruit a good QB as the OC and position coach, we have a major problem. I hate social media too, but the fact he is rarely on it is disturbing. For better or worse, you need to be able to connect with these recruits on multiple platforms.
His highest “rated” commitment at quarterback is Sefo Liufau in 2012. Given his coaching career (2005), I wouldn’t consider him a particularly active recruiter.
Smith and Yray are now following Dart as well.
Interesting
I hope OSU can hit the bullseye with Dart!
Another Colorado DB, Mark Perry, will announce his transfer destination today.
I know the Beavs looked at him at least. But i have to assume oregon is the most likely landing spit. Possibly Baylor.
Should know in about an hour.
Off-topic: Georgia favored by 2.5 tonight. who do you got?
I’ll take GA on the revenge factor.
Not planning to watch GA v AL round 2, but I hope it ends in a tie.
Mike Hass to the college football hall of fame. A well deserved honor
“After receiving no Division I scholarship offers and walking on at Oregon State, Mike Hass left the university as its all-time leading receiver while boasting a Biletnikoff Award. The Portland, Oregon, native becomes the third Beaver player to join the College Football Hall of Fame.
The 2005 First Team All-American and Biletnikoff Award recipient was just the 10th player in NCAA history and the only Oregon State player ever with three seasons of 1,000-plus receiving yards. During his stellar senior season in 2005, Hass led the nation with 139.9 receiving yards per game. He set then-school records for single-season receptions (90) and receiving yards (1,532 – also a Pac-10 mark at the time), surpassing his own records set in 2004 when he was a Third Team All-American. The 2005 team captain led the Beavers to three consecutive bowl berths, including wins in the 2003 Las Vegas Bowl and 2004 Insight Bowl.
A two-time First Team All-Pac-10 selection, Hass’ 3,924 career receiving yards rank third all-time in conference history. In addition to being the school’s all-time leading receiver, he owns Oregon State records for career 100-yard games (19), single-season 100-yard games (nine in 2005) and single-game receptions (14 vs. Arizona State in 2004). Hass owns four of the top 10 single-game receiving performances in school history, including a Beaver record 293 yards against Boise State in 2004. His 20 career receiving touchdowns are second in school annals while his 220 receptions rank fourth.
A sixth-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in the 2006 NFL Draft, Hass played in the league for the Chicago Bears (2006-08) and the Seattle Seahawks (2009). He also played for the Omaha Nighthawks in the United Football League from 2010-11.
Hass earned his degree in civil engineering from Oregon State in 2007. Following his football career, he worked in the development department at Nike, helping design sporting equipment. Hass is currently a project manager at Pacific GeoSource, an industry leader in pavement design and engineering. He has also coached youth football.”
Nice. Sure miss that guy. He was/is a workhorse.
I was in a meeting with him some time back. He is really trying to sell the fiber amendment for asphalt.
It seems to be a booming concept.
What line of work (presumably construction-related) are you in?
Yeah work for a road department. A lot of people seem to be adding the fiber in high traffic and truck roads. The theory makes a ton of sense and I imagine it is the future. But industries like this are slow to change. Corvallis uses it a fair bit now.
Works with my brother, says he’s as good a dude as we was a footballer.
Yeah, I’m kind of surprised he didn’t pursue a career in football. Maybe using the engineering degree was better money than having to work for crappy pay as a low level assistant to eventually try and strike it big in coaching but it sure seems like he would have been given a shot at coaching if he wanted it.
Nemec says the Beavs are over the scholarship limit. Probably due to the 6th year covid seniors coming back. Good for the team because of the experience they bring back, bad because it blocks the growth of the younger guys.
So that means we should expect transfers and/or medical retirements. A much more difficult task these days now that scholarships are for 4 years instead of a yearly renewal.
The fact that we’re still pursuing transfers would indicate they have the capacity to open scholarship spots as needed. You saw it with Teron Madison leaving just prior to Chatfields arrival.
Since that time we’ve also had Vidlak and Kelsen Hennessey transfer out, vacating scholarships. Sure to be more as time passes
Vidlak was lured away from Montana – there must have been some expectation.
Looking at the Dart transfer drama from the opposite direction, the only coaches he has followed back so far today have been from Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Mizzou. Not to say those will be the only coaches he ends up talking to, but so far no Beavs on the list.
Just based on the recent trends in transfer and QB recruiting, it would be surprising if we were in consideration
I doubt he wants to play on front of 24-34K fans on “PAC 12 after dark,” Especially if he’s forced receivers who drop the ball.
OSU is likely going to have to win w/a QB they mostly develop, “finish” Reser so it looks relatively complete, get to double digit wins, get decent TV slots, before they start to attract someone like Dart.
DeLaura transfers to Arizona
Swing!………..and a miss.
We didnt swing in this case, but that really has been the motto this offseason. Swing and miss, or struck out looking
De Laura to Arizona. They are recruiting really well considering their recent records.
Another pac 12 team getting better while the Beavs don’t do anything
Early on in the glory hole, OSU was credited for taking unique advantage of it. Now that its used broadly, it seems like they’re either ineffective (can’t compete?) or thinking that sticking with and developing players is better than a high turnover rate?
Just remembered the title game is on…haha. Guess I’ll watch the last quarter of this crap.
Is the SEC winning?
Indubitably.
Bama lost their far and away best receiver early in the game.
Mostly been field goals, but UGA got a 3rd qtr TD on the ground.
I do not want see Georgia win so lanning can flash a national cship ring to Oregon recruits.
That’s a good point. Yuck. My buddy is a Georgia alum, so I want him to get some BIRGING glory.
If there was anyway both teams could lose without someone dying, I’d be all for it. Georgia’s defense is scary, hopefully that new coach doesn’t get it going at toilet bowl.
Fuck em. I don’t care if someone had to die for both teams to lose.
I’d even nominate myself.
Georgia wins the Title with a 2-star QB.
Defenses win championships….or something.
And Bama missing both of their great WRs..
Their 4 string guys would start on all but maybe 5 teams in the FBS.
They would never beat out Champ!
No, scoring more points than the other team wins championships.
If only they had given GA one more year, Da Beav’s could be National Champions. He had us right on the cusp of greatness!
Beavs MBB lose another close one 78-76 as Alatishe misses a gimme at the buzzer to tie the game. Ugh. Still no Gianna Hunt on the bench so he might have left the team which is fine by me.
That was brutal. Instead of taking a wild three to try to win the game, Lucas smartly makes a perfect pass to Alitishe and he misses about as easy of a shot as one is going to get in that situation (which would have sent the game into OT}. I can’t blame Big Tinks for that! Hunt looks to be addition by subtraction so far.
Huh?
Ray Charles could see the sarcasm in that post. And he’s both blind and dead.
Huh? What’s GA got to do with anything related to a national cship? So it was sarcasm but the comment had no relevant point to anything that made any sense IMO. I mean if there was some context for that comment, I completely missed it.
I think the 2-star QB.
Yeah, I guess I missed that…lol
A great coach and leader of young men has “nothing to do with National Championship!” You’re no War Daddy!
If it wasn’t for that devil Temptress and the sins of the flesh, the main topic around CFB would be, “should Oregon State be excluded from the future playoffs after their fourth straight Natty, just to give someone else a chance?”
I’m still missing the relevancy here but whatever. I guess there is some dark humor somewhere embedded in your reference. That said, GA is dead to me….
Now lanning has his national championship ring to flash potential recruits. That sucks a$$ just like the ducks do….
Now its a good+ hire.
JS got to the playoffs as UW OC.
They beat us this year dummy
And as the 2021 football season comes to close and we enter the Beaver fan depression known as January/February, it’s only fitting that OSU mbb plays a down to the wire close game against oregon, only to miss a point blank shot at the rim in the final seconds. Time to enter hibernation.
Also, Dart now follows a Baylor coach. Still not OSU. Looks like we can look forward to another year with Chance at the helm, while WSU/UW/Oregon/USC/UA/USC/UCLA all bring in new transfer QBs in the last 2 weeks.
Maybe Dart is bored?
No offense, but maybe the most cringeworthy BG post ever. Not even worthy of a downvote.
“Looks like we can look forward to another year with Chance at the helm..” if he could consistently be the USC Nolan…and run him more. Or if Gulbranson can beat him out in spring/fall, play Gulbranson. Many here suggested Gulbranson had a better arm. Nolan can’t throw deep accurately.
Nolan didn’t seem to get better as the year went on, which is troubling. Every time he dropped back, I wondered what the hell would happen.
Tighten up the WR rotation, make it more predictable, don’t play WRs that drop the ball in games, maybe Nolan gets better. Next year though, I don’t think the running game (RB or OL) will be as good or better, so more is likely needed from the QB. Also, the non-con and early season schedule is tougher next year.
With a better defense, we wouldn’t need a better offense than 2021’s. Of course you should always want to improve, but I think a repeat performance in 2022 should still be seen as a win. I’ll take an offense that’s top 25 nationally every year.
Everyone likes to dump on Nolan and point out the one big thing he doesn’t do well (throw the deep ball), but he did a lot of things really well, some at an elite level. There’s room for improvement, but it’s not like our QB situation is a disaster.
If you listened to the commentators on the bowl game, they also pointed out he doesn’t throw guys to open space so the run after the catch isn’t there like it could be. Their example was the pass to Goulds feet rather than to his hands where he could have kept running. He also misses wide open receivers such as the wheel route in the Utah game at the end of the first half that then was followed by him fumbling and Utah scoring a TD. His down field passing is terrible but it isn’t the only weakness. He’s so good that he was third string and only an injured Gebbia and a terrible Noyer gave him the starting job.
This hasn’t been talked about but he hasn’t shown any command of the huddle/offense. Not sure if it’s his personality or what but you don’t see him on the sidelines rallying the offense or talking to receivers. Maybe that’s on the coaches.
True, the articles about him usually mention him being a “lead by example” type rather than a vocal leader. IIRC they say the same things about Gebbia, too. I don’t think the offense suffered from a lack of leadership, though. Again, top 25 nationally, and they showed unusual (for a Beaver team, anyway) fight at the end of games.
Let’s put the preseason third-string thing to rest. His game performance matters so much more and clearly the coaches’ fall camp analysis should mean very little when Noyer came out on top as the starting QB.
I see Nolan as a really good game manager QB. He’s not going to win us many (if any games), but he’s not a disaster and does a good job limiting negative plays. The offense HAS to have a good run game to be successful with him at QB, though.
We’re Beaver fans, we know what bad QB play looks like. Nolan aint it.
I can put the third string thing to rest for Nolan’s career sake. But it makes me skeptical of Lindgren and Smith. It’s not like they hadn’t seen Nolan in a game and went with the safe choice in Noyer. Chance had started a handful of games the year before. He was clearly better than Noyer and knew the offense better. I don’t think Chance is bad. But he has more than one weakness and he isn’t a top pac 12 passer just because they had a highly rated offense.
The conference was really down overall with qb play. Maybe Rising was the best?
Yeah no one in the conference had a QB that could take over a game. Even Utah’s offense heavily relied on the running game.
I’m definitely skeptical of JS and Lindgren in the QB arena.
One more point, the rushing attack was averaging 240 yards per game for a while this year. Nothing to do with the qb. Let’s also stop the narrative that Chance is good because the offense was good. Outside of like 2 games, he really didn’t lift the offense, he kept it even. How many fumbles and ints did he end up with? He started the year doing well but seemed like multiple turnovers every game the last half or so.
The OL drove our whole team this year, hands down. Everyone else was along for the ride.
Nolan was squinting a lot again this year… seriously wonder if he has eye problems.
Looked like a nervous tick or concentration tick to me.
Lyme disease?
Tick-related tick?
To be fair, all of those teams lost their starting QB’s from last year. It’s a little harder to convince a guy he can take the job from an incumbent all-conference starter.
That’s not to say Nolan should intimidate them, but every one of those teams had an easier sell at QB.
Here we go on FB, Lanning’s mug with the national cship trophy. Duck fans slobbering all over themselves thinking he will do thr same thing for the Dicks. Lol!
I’m nervous.
I think it’s interesting to see the game come back around to defense. Defense seems mostly an afterthought in the modern game.
His Championship ring – and Georgia sending players to the NFL – will have a lot of recruiting power. Plus, he’s allegedly energetic, which I think is something to which highly motivated players will respond. Throw in Nike swag and facilities, and teenagers will love it.
May be reactionary, but I expect USC and UO to be the future PAC powers w/their coaching changes.
Didn’t Cristobal possess 2 Championship rings from his days at Miami?
So it’s actually a downgrade with Lanning having just 1
I assume Alabama won titles while Cristobal was there too (albeit he wasn’t a coordinator).
It’s a huge upgrade, and if you think he won’t bring a lot of recruiting clout and that same nasty defense I’m betting you’re in for a surprise.
He’s put together a really good recruiting staff. Whether it’s an upgrade from a coaching standpoint remains to be seen.
Yes, huge upgrade. A punky log would be a huge upgrade over Mario, though.
Who said it wasn’t a huge upgrade but at the same time, he has to price it on the field and not just on paper. Remember under Mario, the ducks had some of their best recruiting classes EVER and ee know how that worked out. Talk is cheap until it is proven on the field.as the ducks have looked great on paper for several years…..
Prove it on the field……
He just did prove it on the field. Their D looked insane last night.
Do you know who really calls the defense for Georgia? It ain’t Lanning…. There’s a couple of fellas names Kirby and Will.
Hes got to prove it as the HC with Oregon. It’s one thing to do it with now with the best team in the country and quite another thing to do it as the HC with Oregon. At this point, he has proven nothing at Oregon.
“Their D looked insane last night.”
And on Dec 4 not so insane, their D gave up 41 pts to Tide enroute to a 41-24 loss.
Not sayin’ Lanning isn’t a better in game coach than Cristo, but that’s a low bar. And…
“At this point, he has proven nothing at Oregon.”
You turned the game on in the 4th quarter LOL.
Mario won a rose bowl, nothing wrong w/that.
Didn’t say there was bit winning the Rose Bowl is a far cry from winning the national championship.
Well sure its a far cry, and while the NC is clearly a goal of UO/Knight, I seriously doubt its a goal of OSU, unless you’re talking baseball or maybe Women’s basketball. And I don’t think they had aspirations of a NC before Knight and Chip Kelly. Do you really think OSU, of the poorest P5 athletic departments, if not the poorest (was OSU ahead of WSU?), seriously talks about football National Championships in the way that UO does with all of its Phil Knight investments? I don’t. I think OSU hopes for a Rose Bowl. Smith has talked about making OSU Football nationally relevant, I doubt he’s ever seriously said he expects a NC.
I think people have lost perspective on the NC. The fact that its reduced to really 6 teams or less, depends SO much on rankings, and discounts anyone with more than one loss, is absurd to me. What if a 14-2 Tom Brady-led NE Patriot team couldn’t compete for the Super Bowl because they dropped in subjective rankings, and had to instead play in a loser’s bracket for consolation? Real playoffs are about getting it done on the field, not in the minds of the press. Look how long Oregon lived off the perception value of their win at Ohio State.
Throw out the rankings, just use them as “power rankings” for fan fodder the way the press does with the pro leagues, take the NCAA P5 conference champs instead of some selection commitee, and have a real NCAA playoff determined on the field, and things would get more interesting. This has all been discussed here before.
I’d be very happy if 10+ win OSU football won the PAC 12 and a Rose bowl over the BIG champ. The Rose Bowl had a great tradition to it. The NC is kind of a joke in the way that its structured and realized, but its life to SEC and many east coast people.
Oh, should add men’s soccer to NC goals too. OSU is doing pretty well in some of the small money sports.
Here’s an interesting interview with a guy who wrote a book arguing against being all in on analytics:
https://www.thescore.com/eng_fed/news/2269311/have-analytics-gone-too-far-author-argues-were-devaluing-human-creativity
A few key ideas:
-There are limits to what you can measure
-When you confine yourself to what you can measure, you’re actually putting yourself at a disadvantage because you’re ignoring data that’s less difficult to define, but still valuable
-The moral from Moneyball isn’t “analytics over everything,” it’s that having smart, creative people is the best competitive advantage.
-Why would you only want to see something one way?
I wanted Mario to stay for good reason. Oregon could do so much better, and they have.
https://twitter.com/angrybeavs/status/1480947935877554181
I’ll wait tell I see it. I still stand by that neither Alabama or Georgia have very interesting defenses. They are just overwhelmingly superior talent with well coached fundamentals. The internal competition is also insane.
Same system at OSU would not work well, in fact it would look a lot like tibs rushing just the line every down.
Imaging having a Jordan Davis at nose tackle…
Tibs would still be here
With an extra year on his contract, for doing nothing more than coaching during the shortened 2020 season
You get a good pass rush with a 3 or 4 man rush and basically any defensive system works.
Paea and Suh….ahh what might have been…
Georgia has 19 5* players in their roster. They had the talent to compete.
Does Lanning even control the defensive play calling and scheme?
Kirby Smart was defensive coordinator at alabama from 08-15. The defense for Georgia will be the same next year. I’d take a horrible coach to make Georgia defensive talent look pedestrian.
?? Pac-12 COY, Pac-12 Champs x 2, Rose Bowl. Pretty good resume. 35-13 overall and 23-9 in conference.
Just a random thought, I think the beavs will be getting almost all day games for home dates next year. All the lighting came down on the old side so to meet any tv standards, temp lights would need to be setup.
Also a great opportunity to switch the all the lights to led lighting.
Switching to all LED is a great idea so long as the meet lighting standards for football stadiums.
If they update the lighting… then they will start doing the crazy dance club lights flashing gimmick.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv3QlR6z8KY
I hate that crap! But, I guess that is part of the marketing to bring in football fans… who really don’t like football.
…Old man Sweaty has spoken
I guess you haven’t been to Gill. They put in led lights when the did the remodel and do the club lights thing in pregame.
I’m surprised Nike hasn’t integrated LEDs into helmets and uniforms….maybe start flashing after a score or TO…
https://www.google.com/amp/s/kval.com/amp/news/local/osu-study-compounds-in-hemp-could-block-covid-19-from-entering-human-cells
So 25mg during games not only makes them bearable, but it prevents Covid? Noiyce!
Better safe than sorry.
Thanks. You just cost me money on a CBDa purchase. :)
Congratulations to Haas, I hope there’s some good way Haas’s induction is recognized at OSU’s facility. Its a nice addition to his and Cook’s Biletnikoff awards and Baker’s Heismann. I don’t know how many OSU football players made the college HOF?
Hass!
Ryan Payne, who has been an offensive GA helping the offensive line, has been hired as Idaho State’s offensive line coach: https://twitter.com/IdahoStateFB/status/1481016380598095873?s=20
Also, why is Charlie Ragle posing like that? LOL
Payne’s wasting no time getting to work for his new boss.

Another transfer RB we’re pursuing. Stanford’s Nathaniel Peat. Class of 2019.
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/nathaniel-peat-181614
Hmm. Looks Lowe-ish?
Did I hear a stat correctly? This is the first time Saban assistants have ever defeated him? Now it’s happened twice with Fisher and Smart. The evil empire is crumbling. I always preferred Bama football during the Shula years. 4-9 looked good on them and I think they lost to Hawaii just like the Beavers do!
Remember this guy? I think we were all bummed when we didn’t land him.
https://247sports.com/Player/Austin-Kafentzis-28224/high-school-46727/
The rich man’s Seth Collins (who also ended up converting to DB, just like Seth!)
More on Riley’s latest coaching adventure in a piece by Eggers; mentions James Rodgers as a possibility for Riley’s staff.
(Rodgers is currently an offensive analyst at Wisconsin)
https://www.kerryeggers.com/stories/a-new-coaching-adventure-for-mike-riley-i-cant-wait-to-get-started
Maybe it’s common knowledge, but for some reason, I didn’t realize Riley still lived in Corvallis. I thought he would have moved on by now.
They’re still here, at least sometimes. And the Bankers just moved back to town. Hip, hip…
Maybe Bray is going to hire hand jive to coach LBs.
Here’s some summary information on the amount schools spent on recruiting. Georgia tops the list, Alabama second.
“Over the six-year period that began with the 2015 fiscal year, when Mark Richt was still its head coach, Georgia spent more than $14.8 million on football recruiting — an amount that is just over $3.2 million greater than the next-largest total, the $11.6 million spent by Alabama.
…
Schools are instructed to define recruiting expenses as amounts for “transportation, lodging and meals for prospective student-athletes and institutional personnel on official and unofficial visits, telephone call charges, postage and such.” Schools are supposed to include the “value of use of institution’s own vehicles or airplanes as well as in-kind value of loaned or contributed transportation.”
Varying athletics-department and/or university accounting systems can result in a lack of uniformity in how these numbers are compiled for the reports to the NCAA, but that is unlikely to cover the gap between Georgia and other FBS schools.”
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/2022/01/11/georgia-football-title-unmatched-recruiting-budget/9173397002/
Anyone have an idea on what the Beavers spend annually on recruiting costs? UO?
Buck fifty?
Transfer portal news.
Arizona sign the recent DT transfer from UCLA, Tia Salavea.
Cal adds Purdue QB Jack Plummer.
Beavers sign Jack Schit.
How many stars is Jack Schit. He sounds intriguing.. Lol
He’s another 35 year old never was quarterback. Lindgren is going to give him all of the first team reps in spring and fall then pull him after the first half of the first game.
“Strategery. They’ll never see it coming.”
This is the most frustrating off-season for the Beavs.
“We value stability.”
Yeah, pretty quiet so far. I guess one way to think about it is we get Mccartan and Hodgins back (I think). Anyone else that was out and will be back? I am pretending Gumbs isn’t on the team.
Re: Gumbs, at this point he either needs to play or get kicked loose to free up a scholarship.
Julian is the biggest name. Best defender and arguably best player on the team last year. Our D really wilted without him.
Jaden Robinson at CB was making waves in training camp before he went down.
Otherwise yes- McCartan, Hodgins, Gumbs.
Yeah, but isn’t that just back to zero? It does’t make OSU “+” over competing PAC offensive lines, just takes OSU back to where they were.
“We spent the off season getting players back from injury.” Yeah, so did everyone else. Did you upgrade talent?
I’m not trying to sound snarky about it. It just seems difference makers are still needed on the DLine and secondary and nothing is happening while other teams appear to be upgrading talent.
The progress indicated by winning season, wins over USC, UW, Utah, Stanford, 6-0 home schedule, bowl game, and a new stadium unfortunately don’t appear to be having much impact on transfer interest.
Add another transfer to the growing list of RBs the Beavs are looking at. oregon RB, Sean Dollars.
He entered the portal recently, then today he backed out and re-entered it. And a couple Beavs coaches followed him shortly after.
One more I missed earlier today.
RB Chaton Mobley out of Middle Tennessee State.
https://247sports.com/Player/Chaton-Mobley-77829/
Dollars transferring makes no cents…
Yes to Dollars, no to Mobley.
What was the leg injury?
That portal must feel good….
We don’t need no freaking ex duck players. He didn’t do squat at Oregon…..
They were loaded at RB, that’s why
He was injured most of the time Swammi
Haven’t read all the comments here but didn’t realize the big zero in eugene had won the football natty…
https://twitter.com/oregonfootball/status/1480766097666183171?s=20
Shouldn’t he be wearing a Georgia shirt if they’re talking about “his” championship?
No, the ducks now have a national championship football coach. Never mind that he wasn’t even the HC. I posted earlier on Monday that I didn’t want GA to beat Alabama bc he world be flashing that ring to recruits but duck fans have put an entirely different spin on it which isn’t surprising. To hear duck fans talk, he will now turn Oregon into GA west just like Mario turned Oregon into Alabama west.. Lol. I can’t wait until Oregon gets a$$ raped by GA next year.
It’s the money he can flash more than anything. There’s a reason Kayvon was interviewed before the NC game wearing a gigantic “O” logo shirt, talking about why Oregon is the best option for athletes, while 2 teams he could have played on were getting ready for the title game.
$$$
And that interview was set up by the people who wanted that message to get out. You can guarantee KT was paid for that interview. It was a commercial for oregon recruiting.
They should have given him a script. That interview was hilarious.
I looked real hard but couldn’t see the green and yellow booger on Lanning’s finger.
he stuffed it up his a$$
So when Georgia kicks the shit out of them opening weekend…..
The big zero beat us so…..
Completely Off-Topic: I’m a power red blood donor…was in Monday and heard the Red Cross is down to a one-day supply nationally (for any type of blood donation). So if you know anyone who is interested, or hasn’t been in for awhile, might be a good time to make an appointment.
Thanks for letting me have the soapbox.
Can’t believe you haven’t heard of the newest tight end in the portal, Seymour Butts from Morehead State.
I’m not a gambler so not sure if this is really newsworthy?
Sounds like the draftkings sportsbook app might be your key to online betting in the state?
https://twitter.com/BizballMaury/status/1481310354542002178?t=IV8ME42bve9D_5Zd2QsC2Q&s=19
Not very newsworthy and a bit out of date. Looks like this is just a change in the platform used for betting in Oregon and still doesn’t allow wagering on college sports (Oregonians still have to head to an Indian Casino to use BetMGM).
Interesting that the original platform, selected by the State Lottery crowd, was a product from Bulgaria.
Here’s some background on the change from last September:
https://www.gambling.com/us/news/oregon-august-sports-betting-handle-falls-draftkings-on-way-2650200
Kanan Ray has entered the portal. He was an OT that OSU was very close to landing several years ago, until UCLA swooped in and kept him home. Looks like he has since transferred to Colorado, and now he’s in the portal with 2 years remaining as a grad transfer. Was a 4* rated tackle out of hs. No idea how his career has been since. Colorado fired their OL coach mid-season.
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2017/kanan-ray-18165
Solid PFF grades in 2019 and 2020. Only very limited spot duty in 2019 (~20 snaps) and about two games’ worth of snaps in 2020.
Below average in 2021 with slightly more snaps (still only around two games’ worth, though he played in six games).
Looks like a decent depth pickup, with some upside. Not a plug and play starter.
Great size and offer sheet. Big yes, please.
No brainer since Coach M is a great coach. He can fix bad.
And another transfer RB we’re looking at. Stanford 2019 RB Austin Jones. We did offer him out of HS when Pitre was here. Was 4*, with a pretty solid offer sheet.
Safe to say we’re just following up on every transfer RB that is hitting the portal lately. Basically since Baylor announced he’s going to the NFL. Doesnt necessarily mean we’re targeting them for a roster spot, but we’re trying to find a good fit and someone who also has return interest.
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/austin-jones-69275
NB, the Gopher RB, Ky Thomas, you posted about seems to be headed home to Kansas or K State. Tough loss for MN! I would have loved to see him in Orange and Black.
You have to wonder since the beavs are over the limit, can they even offer without a player leaving.
Looking at the Stanford guys twitters they are saying who has offered them. WSU has offered both
Who is saying they’re over the limit? Nemec?
OSU doesnt advertise their scholarship numbers to the media or anybody else. But people I’ve spoken to repeatedly say they “always have the ability to make room”
So Nemec may be operating on his own data tracked over time, but I would only consider his numbers to be ballpark guesses. We were ready to give a spot to Ott on signing day and he didnt come. We’re still pursuing Dave Iuli for 2022. We lost Vidlak and Hennessey to transfer recently. Rumors have been that Hodgins is done. I think there’s room where needed.
So Bray officially got moved to DC Dec 15th.
Today, OSU posted the open position a month later. It’s generic and is looking for an assistant coach, but doesnt specify the position.
So either we’re looking for somebody to fill any position and plan to move other coaches around, or Smith already has a candidate ready amd now we’re going through the red tape of posting a job opening and waiting till the hiring can be announced.
Figure football scoop will have something on that in the coming days.
https://jobs.oregonstate.edu/postings/112482
I said before the afca conference is where a lot of the hiring, interviews happen. That’s this weekend. I’d expect the hire to come within a week or two.
OT: the B1G changed the already set 2022 FB schedules today.
Anybody know Smith’s buyout? Saw that UCLA had their DC resign today and people are speculating Kelly will be gone when Sunday hits and his buyout drops to $0.(Not sure why they’d fire Kelly though. He seems to be doing an okay job there)
If they do fire Kelly, is there any chance they could come after Glendora’s Jonathan Smith?
Seems more likely than USC going after Smith, and his name was even coming up when the USC job was vacant.
He’s on an upward trajectory. Not sure why they would fire him unless they thought they could get someone that can take them to the conference championship next year.
Urban is available!
3 UCLA assistants have left in the past few weeks. I doubt UCLA will fire Kelly but you never know. 8-4 and a big win over LSU….it can’t her too much better than that for UCLA IMO although recruiting apparently is a bug-a-boo for the chipster. Plus, DTR is returning so why would he return only to go through a coaching change?
Could also mean another team is waiting to poach Chip once the buyout is $0?
Why would all of his staff leave him if he’s sticking around UCLA?
Lost his OC, SpecialTeams/TEs and LB coaches recently too.
But I have no idea what other teams are even in position to hire him away.
Smith’s buyout is high with his new contract. No one is coming for him.
UCLA is being very weird. Had a pretty decent year. Have to wonder if they have a coach ready to go and are going to fire Kelly this week. Maybe they have Urban Meyer..or Bob Stoops!
It’s 3 million for the next 2 years.
At today’s rates, that’s really not much.
Although tough to justify a team making that leap when Smith’s HC record is still well below .500
Right, it’s a shitload for his record.
As Banker said when he went to Nebraska “It basically comes down to your Jimmys and Jones.”
Then when he left “You’d think after all this time he’d be man enough to fire me in person.”
I believe it was , ‘Jimmys and JOES’ but not sure there’s a difference.
Everyone doin that crazy hand jive…
Guess he had Jones at NB, not JOES, that’s why his D didn’t perform. Again.
Not MR’s fault he hired the wrong f***ing assistants, now was it?
Odd time to let Kelly walk, but I saw speculation about this weeks ago: once his buyout hit $0, he’d be gone.
Maybe they’ll go after Urban Meyer. There can’t be many big names left for a school that seems to be under-performing regularly and wants to recapture relevance.
Another transfer RB. Noah Cain from Penn State.
It’s getting pretty repetitve, do you guys want to hear specific names of guys we pursue, or should we all just assume if they are a RB and in the portal, we’re at least having a look?
I personally don’t need to hear all the names UNLESS in your opinion there is a legitimate chance they come to OSU.
Well we just got pur first public proof that we are looking at RBs. Stanford’s Austin Jones(@RockWitAust) was offered by us today, as well as WSU.
https://twitter.com/rockwitaust/status/1481419987524849664?t=sq_N6y0UD1B9J_70UYOG4Q&s=19
Let me guess….he was “blessed” to receive the offer?
You looked.
Nope, it’s an easy bet. Stats show that 63.7% of football athletes given a D-1 offer tweet the word “blessed”. I’m playing with house money!
“that being said…I’m entering the glory hole. Again. Please respect my decision(s).”
Studies show that only 2% say “I’m blessed to be entering the glory hole”.
How many 8se Crest toothpaste?
I think it’s most interesting to hear what positions we’re going after
That’s what she said…
Doubt we would land him, but Noah Cain would be an awesome addition. He was a Top 50 player per Rivals and a Top 100 player per 247 in his class. He would be an upgrade to any of the returning backs we have.
Had Seven McGee and Sean Dollars remained in the glory hole resulting in transfers, the ducks would have lost on Seven Dollars. Instead, uncle Phil coughed up probably $700k for Seven Dollars to return to play for the ducks AMD the national championship next year. Ha ha ha.
…….lost only Seven Dollars.. ….
Omfg!!!!

Overreaction. Dill with it…
NCAA Football final grades. Beavers, UCLA, WSU get a “B,’ Ducks a C+, USC an F…as does Texas. Grades relative:
ttps://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2022/01/12/college-football-season-grades-georgia-cincinnati-and-usc/9135505002/
Wow, can’t believe JS has had no hits from the Portal. The whole vibe of the year changed after the Wazzu loss and the disappointment of the bowl game has carried into the transfer sweepstakes. A easy way to plug holes and upgrade the roster seems to be being wasted.
Start the season 4-1, then 5-2, then close 2-4 with a bowl loss to Utah State…Smith has been quiet.
Saw Minnesota got that big OL from Michigan, Chuck Filiaga.
He’s huge! And dont you also have that big Aussie?
Big dudes makes rowing easier
He declared for the draft. 6’9 385 LOL. Never see another guy that big. Fleck also got OL transfer from ND who was a local 4 star kid and a DT from Clemson, in addition to a couple plug and play DBs from smaller schools. JS needs to up his game!
UCLA expected to sign Chip to a new deal. So maybe he was told clean house and try again?
Made him boot his buddy at DC.
Crazy to think that at UCLA an 8 win season means cleaning house, but at OSU, if you reach 6 wins it means raises for everybody!
UCLA wants to compete with USC and UO, OSU wants to compete with…well… they just want to stay off the conference floor.
Gianni Hunt is sitting out the rest of the season.
https://oregonstate.rivals.com/news/oregon-state-mbb-pg-gianni-hunt-out-indefinitely?yptr=yahoo?src=rss
Will we notice?
Do we care?
I dint think he is coming back. If he is smart, he will transfer to a non power 5 school.
Agreed. Not P5 caliber talent.
Baseball got a ’25 commitment from Chance Nolan’s alma mater.
Baseball recruiting is so confusing. I just assume everyone we get a commitment from is awesome at this point. If they’re committing that early, they’re probably pretty high on our list, right?
Thought this one was interesting. Coach Smith started following JT Daniels from
ASUUGA today.JT Daniels from Georgia or Jayden Daniels from ASU? Neither of which are in the portal but maybe Smith knows something? Or Daniels knows the hammer is coming down on ASU and is looking to leave.
My bad, it’s JT Daniels from UGA.
Got my wires crossed because i read ASU fans were worried Jayden Daniels was going to transfer the other day. Will edit my post
Hmm…that is very interesting. UGA Daniels already used his free transfer I think so…yeah and he’s penciled in as the starter next year
Could grad transfer still without sitting, assuming he graduated
Hopefully not following his DC to Eugene.
Doubt it nix just went there
Why would a QB follow a defensive coach?
His defense mechanism?
Coach Yray followed Daniels today too.
Not sure what’s up, but it’s not like other teams are jumping to follow him too, at the moment. So maybe Smith has the inside track on something.
It looks like Daniels should have 2 seasons left. Had a rough 2021 season with injury issues, but prior to that he was a Heisman candidate and former 5* rated QB.
Let’s do this, Coach Smith
I’ll take one Jarek Broussard, please
Can’t help but notice that now that NIL is a thing we suck at the transfer portal. It’s feeling more and more like free agency but unfortunately we’re the Cleveland Indians.
For sure. With no sitting period either, teams are all saving room for transfers and passing on HS players.
If there were only 22 transfers in the portal with USC out there with room for 20 transfers, and OSU with room for 2, USC will get their pick of the first 20 transfers, and OSU will end up with 1 of the other 2.(the other 1 will decide to retire instead)
And to make matters worse, we’re the Cleveland Indians from Major League
Beavland Indians.
Bol bol traded to the pistons but he failed the physical so the trade is off. At least he can get a job with Nike.
Lady beavers hanging tough vss #7 zona and Taylor Jones’s is not playing dude to an unspecified injury but not covid.
I hope you meant due….
Yeah, my keyboard skills on my tiny phone keypad suck and combined with auto freaking correct and this is what happens.
Rough loss. Hard to do well vs #7 team having lost so much time (25 days?) between games.
Were you there? Looked like a good crowd.
Is it just me. or is Taya having her best season ever?
No, I’m recovering from covid.
Gee that’s a shame
Turned it on with 43 seconds left and watched them lose. Nice last shot….not.
Saw an article on AZs coach. She turned that program around in a hurry:
https://www.sfgate.com/sports/article/Adia-Barnes-honest-approach-pushes-No-7-Arizona-16770911.php
NB-who are some potential PWO candidates you could see the staff taking a look at outside of reichle Ratliff and Blake
Only ones I can think of right now are kicker/punter/long snapper type guys and this one. The special teamers will probably come later though
https://twitter.com/BraydonBruener/status/1445975725383712772?s=20
CU loses their top back.
https://www.denverpost.com/2022/01/13/cu-buffs-jarek-broussard-puts-name-in-transfer-portal/
They’re losing a ton of players this offseason. Some because coaches moved, but others are a little surprising.
They are playing in Minneapolis next season, so I hope the exodus continues. They hired the Gophers fired OC….he sucks, and our TE coach.
Hopefully you all aren’t so angry that you decided you weren’t going to watch the game.
Beav MBB trying to keep it from being a “strikeout night”. Up 10 against USC with about 17 minutes left. WBB loses at the buzzer to UA and the media is going to fawn over the Quack men’s OT win over UCLA.
Why wouldn’t they? That’s a huge win on the road for the Ducks
It’s a legit upset alert with the way they are playing. But part of me knows they will blow it in the final seconds. It’s that Beaver PTSD, lol.
That was fun for awhile.
Calloo needs to join Hunt
And Alitishe losing his cool and getting that technical at a key time did not help. Beavs not playing well, but apparently, USC does not travel with the basketball at all.
Yeah, and Calloo needs to stay on the bench. Let’s see two missed threes, a missed dunk, a blocked layup, and an offensive foul and that’s just in the last five minutes.
Beavs fall apart down the stretch with Alitishe fouling out. Lose 81-71. They lead 71-70 before he fouled out.
We were all saying that it was obvious that the team was better with Davis playing most of the minutes. It’s the same damn thing with Calloo, I think Rand should be getting the minutes.
Calloo is pretty much a one trick pony. He is either really on or really off. Silva’s flagrant elbow to the face was very costly and was aheadcked when they didn’t call the scond one. This team just needs to play smarter and under control…..
Maybe it’s a good sign that you can hang with the #5 team when Calloo fucks up 2 out of 3 possessions that he’s on the court and Silva pretty much does nothing expect elbow guys in the face.
Yep, I kept saying the beavers aren’t smart enough to win this game and Calloo and Silva proved me right. Alatishe fouling out with 2-3 minutes to go didn’t help either. Up by 10points with 14 minutes to go and lose by 10. A 20 point swing was an epic meltdown.
You called it Swammi
No consolation prizes for losing or playing a tight game. You either win or you don’t. There’s no glory in being 3-12.
Easy grandpa, no one was claiming victory.
Maybe it’s a good sign you can hang with #5 team certainly suggests a moral victory but I apologize if my comment upset you. This team has lost too many games while hanging in there.
I think my comment upset you. To me it says if they can straighten some shit out they’ll win games.
I’ve got a bad feeling something isnt right with either Lindgren, Brayden Dorman, or both.
Looks to me like they’ve parted ways.
Could be wrong, but something just seems…..off
Can you elaborate?
Perhaps they need to read the Love Languages book?
I’m okay if lindgren is poached if that means we still get Dorman.
I’m leaning towards thinking the opposite.
Basically boils down to i was checking to see if Lindgren and JT Daniels have any connection(they dont) but I noticed Lindgren was following a couple of new names who are 2023 QBs, and lower tier guys than Dorman.
And I know Lindgren isnt very active on twitter. When he does follow new QBs, it usually happens around the time we strike out on our top QB targets.
Then, I also noticed he doesnt follow Brayden Dorman anymore. And Dorman doesnt follow him.
I know it’s just twitter follows and all that, but I often learn alot by people’s patterns and activity and this is all leading me to speculate that Dorman has moved on and found a new team.
But I dont get the sense this has anything to do with Lindgren taking another job. Otherwise he’s still be following Dorman.
Hope I’m wrong about all of this. Will try to get a better idea today if I have time
Ok, i did hear back from someone close to it. Sounds like i’m just reading more into something that is nothing. It’s more a product of Lindgren not being a big twitter guy and the relationship is still all good and there’s no breakdown in communication between parties.
Still seems a little out of the normal pattern i’ve observed over time, but I gotta take that feedback at face value because it’s from a solid source.
Sorry for being alarmist on this one. Just really want to see this Dorman situation come to fruition. It feels like possibly the most impactful recruiting situation for OSU in well over a decade.
and 2023 signing day is a long ways off.
Just curious: what indications are there that Dorman is that important of a QB recruit?
Aside from being well rated from the recruiting site perspective, he just gives off that vibe of being a respected leader and big effort guy, in addition to being a football nerd. That and he wants to become a peer recruiter wherever he lands. Once he commits, he has said he will be all in with his new school and really focus on helping them build a great class around him. I’m just really impressed by his maturity as a HS junior.
I have him on par, if not ahead of Mannion as far as impact recruit. Mannion was a little quieter wrt peer recruiting, but he was a really highly rated prospect for OSU coming out of HS.
This must mean Jaxson Dart is coming to Corvallis…right??? I’m seeing UCLA or Utah but they both have clear returning starters. Maybe he makes a huge surprise. Smiths offense would really highlight his talents.
I think you just don’t have much to work with right now. Like anyone else, just read into things a bit more than normal.
But it took effort for both Dorman and Lindgren to stop following each other. Dorman still has Beav gear in instagram and twitter pictures.
“Was it something I said?”
I think your instincts are typically right in situations like this. Can you add any detail here? Lindgren is just a weak recruiter.
I wonder if Lindgren is looking at some NFL jobs. He had mentioned that was a promotional opportunity he would consider.
It’s been hard to follow the MBB this year with all the postponements and losing, but I was wondering if they had a “banner raising” event to commemorate the tourney title at a home game this year? It might be a little bit awkward considering their present fortunes – and seems like it was a million years ago or was some weird dream.
Travis Dye of the ducks in the portal (may come back). This has literally turned into college free agency. Doesn’t benefit the Beavs at all.
It’s a good way to fool your fans into thinking you’re having early recruiting success. Have your current players enter the portal and then have them come back from the portal. Then you can tell everybody “Lanning just landed Seven McGee, Sean Dollars and Travis Dye in the matter of a few weeks!!”
Seems like they are all taking their turn in the portal.
Won’t happen. But he’d be a great pickup while dealing the ducks a huge blow.
Must be a bi-product of NIL.
Players arent really able to test the market unless they know what their options with other teams might be. And to play by the rules, they cant talk to other teams unless theyre in the portal. Not being in the portal limits their NIL negotiating leverage.
Apparently the Beavers/Dutch Bros $25 gift card NIL deal is not very compelling….and it looks SO good at Smith’s pressers…
Throw in gift certs to In and Out Burgers and players will be begging the beavers to sign them. Touche
Coach Yray did follow Dye after he entered the portal. But i think the chances of him ever coming to OSU are less than zero. Plus his mustache bugs me.
Guaranteed he will withdraw from the Glory Hole after “speaking” with the new HC and $250k later he is still a duck. Ka-ching $$$$$$$. The new HC has the power of persuasion…..wink wink.
Yeeesh, all those coaches and recruiters in the glory hole are going to need some lip balm and breath mints….they’re awfully busy.
Yep, the recruiting game has changed forever.
Well I said from day 1 this wouldn’t benefit the Beavs, and it would be like free agency and detrimental.
It’s why this year was so important. Our last chance at a magical season. Smith blew it.
Yep, that’s very true. Beavers were able to take advantage early bc of the quarter system too. Apparently, other schools are changing over ti the quarter system too. That said, ir does create opps for recruiting HS players and building 4 year players as opposed to 1-2 year eligible players.
As far as Oregon State goes, the big $$ programs getting in bidding wars with each other over 5* kids isn’t going to have any effect on recruiting. Those kids were never going to consider OSU anyway.
The biggest threat is the unlimited transfer portal and NIL $$ for kids that are recruited and turn in to stars. Look at the studs from the past, Steven Jackson, Mike Hass, Quizz, Paea, Cooks, Wheaton.. yeah maybe some of them would have loyalty and not jump ship their junior year but when a big $$ program flashes that NIL $$ and a trip to the playoffs at you anything can happen.
It could.. Let’s go out and get Him! Just a joke.
But, what is happening to the Duck’s RB??
Aren’t they just looking for a good NIL deal?
Absolutely, that is exactly what’s happening using the glory holevto leverage a sweet deal and withdrawing their name bonus. You know that Seven and Dollars talked to each other about their deal and I’m pretty certain the spoke with Dye too about their deals. I’ve got no issues with players getting their piece of the pie too but the glory hole and transfers are ruining the game IMO.
Do you talk to Travis Dye a lot?
It could.. Let’s go out and get Him! Just a joke.
But, what is happening to the Duck’s RB’s??
Jordan Poyer makes the All-Pro team. Quite an honor for a two-star recruit out of Astoria, who some considered a better baseball prospect than football player.
In a week, OSU adds a Collegiate Hall of Fame member and a first team All-Pro selection. One was a walk-on, the other a 2*. Somewhere in there is a selling point, I would think. I’m not certain Stanford or Oregon players would consider the Beavs – too big a come-down.
I hope for 6 football wins in 2022 and I don’t think 3 of them will come from the first 3 games in the schedule.
I looked up his stats. Poyer is in his 9th(!) year in the NFL. This year he had 66 solo tackles, 27 assists, 5 INTS, 9 passes defensed, 3 sacks. Poyer is a defensive captain (the other safety is one too).
The Bills defense is ranked No. 1 in yards allowed (275.2 per game), second in scoring defense (16.5 points per game) and tied for second in takeaways (25).
“Since joining the Bills in 2017, Poyer, a seventh-round pick in 2013 by the Eagles, is tied for fourth in the league in interceptions (18) and is tied for the third most in the NFL this season (five).”
I hope he gets a super bowl ring this year. The offense seems to have had some stalling fits this year, so I’m not expecting it, just hoping for it.
Something different, how about Bills over Bengals in AFC Championship game, then Bills defeat Rams in Superbowl…
I recall Poyer’s being picked in the draft. I was in Corvallis for a Beav baseball series (against who?) during the NFL draft. Discussion in the stands about why Poyer hadn’t yet been drafted. Then Eagles in the 7th round – courtesy of Chip Kelly? Subsequently dumped by Eagles and Chip Kelly. Dark years in Cleveland. Battle with alcohol. Buffalo and now first-team All Pro.
Agree that JS just blew the last best shot at winning the conference and a Rose Bowl berth.
Issues that will not be overcome at PAC12 level for OSU:
NIL has changed the game and players will be looking for $$$ before team,
SEC and ESPN have already created an uneven playing field,
transfer free agency will further concentrate talent into fewer teams,
a short-lived window of advantage from transfer portal and quarterly enrollment has evaporated and the gap will only widen further going forward
THe reason this past season was so frustratingly disappointing is that JS had a true shot to win the conference and seemed to not really mind flushing it with his own play calls and a limited DC with no creativity. It is unbelievable how easily such an opportunity slipped out of the grasp of this team. I have little confidence that such a chance or even such a 5-1 start will happen again within even the next 10 years. To waste a 5-1 start is extremely frustrating and disappointing.
Sports are a source of enjoyment and too often OSU sports are the source of great aggravation, JS has continued the low bar of failure that has become the mainstay of OSU football.
Casey won 3 titles but Dennis Erickson was a miracle worker to have had an 11-1 season at OSU. It will never be done again. I’m sorry to admit that I’ve spent 20 years hoping to see another year like that, but now I know better. It simply will not happen. I’m such a sucker tyhat each year I think the Beavs will actually have a shot to win the North etc. Call me Charlie Brown, with a short memory and too much hope in August every year, only to be dashed to pieces by mid-September…
This off-season typifies the frustration…seems to be zero effort or activity towards improvements in obvious needs on the roster. Perhaps the brain trust has a hidden gem but I doubt it. Just striving towards less than mediocre to take the pressure off so the expectations remain much lower to start the season. JS has a losing record .364 winning percentage after 4 years and he is the hope for this program? I’m ready for a switch after sitting on this offseason and watching them coast in silence…what is the plan? Nolan again? Bray may be a stretch. Dline is not getting better, DBs aren’t any better, WR room is not clearly as talented as advertised, RBs are the only position they seem to care about.
Dang that’s a Debbie downer post if I’ve seen one.
Is he wrong?
Save for last year’s tournament run, when have any of the programs that anyone gives a shit about exceeded expectations in the last 20 years?
Football exceeded everyone’s expectations this past year. I think they’ve outperformed their preseason ranking every year under JS except Year 1.
Low expectations, sure. But the bar will continue to rise.
Top 5 (by revenue) are football, basketball, hockey, women’s basketball, and baseball.
Last year we made the tournament in all of those except hockey and we have recent final 8 finishes in all except football and hockey.
Beaver hockey needs to pick up the slack!
Other than football or mens hoops, most of the population doesn’t give two rip shits about any of the other sports you mentioned.
That’s true
Final 8 in a 12 team conference makes money?
Nationally
Plenty of well endowed programs have squandered their privilege. There’s no reason it can’t happen in what’s long been the weakest P5 conference.
We beat Utah this year, who won the whole conference. We might even have the talent already, but it hasn’t been optimally coached.
If Cincinnati can make the CFP, there’s hope for us to go to a Rose Bowl.
Definitely don’t have the talent
But the coaching totally overcompensates for the talent. There’s your joke for the day.
Hey maybe the ducks will finally be able to beat Utah on the 3rd try
It may not be worth much, but Nemec seems to think the Beavs have a better chance to get Broussard (CU transfer) than any of the other running backs mentioned.
Same guy who said we were out of room to add players, haha.
Broussard would be in the top 3rd of all the guys mentioned though. I’d like that
What does he look Luke on video. Does he compare to any other RB that had played for OSU?
Look like on video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTkZktuv4kU
Kind of reminds me of a more physical Quiz Rodgers. He’s very shifty and handles contact well. Doesn’t have breakaway speed, but creates a lot of extra yards on his own. Led the conference in yards after contact in 2020, and just had a terrible OL in 2021.
Noyer was his QB in 2020…maybe they have a relationship?
Short stride length but seriously fast stride frequency. With a good OL he could be very hard to tackle.
I am surprised no one mentioned him tearing us up for 150 yards and leading Colorado to victory over us.
That hardly makes him unique
At least he wasn’t a freshmen dual-threat QB making his first start in his career against The Beavs.
If he was, we should be all over him because those guys are great
Nemec is such a duck honk and cannot take any criticism…if you even throw a hint that you’re criticising the ducks and him, he will block you. He is so ultra sensitive, you’d think you were criticising one of his family members but that’s not uncommon for many duck fans. That’s what I like about AB, we don’t pull punches when talking beavers.
You sure have the Ducks in your mouth a lot Swammi. How come? So does your twitter feed. It’s almost as if you’re obsessed. Relax dude. They are better than we are. At nearly everything and the records don’t lie
Swammi for sure!
Surprised Angry hasn’t picked up on that and let him back in again. I even told Angry on his twitter feed. Must be donating
Talk about obsessed
What are they better in?
For anybody near the coast today, there is a tsunami watch after that massive volcano erupted way out near Tonga.
Pretty far from here, but still have to be cautious for the time being.
There’s some pretty crazy video showing how big the eruption was.
Saw this live stream where you couldnt see it, but could hear some of the huge booms from far away.

If you need a good laugh, Kayvon Thibideau gives us this gem.
“I already hate the stigmatism of football players being dumb jocks,” Thibodeaux said. “So now, do you know the stigmatism [sic] of Alabama education? It ain’t the west coast. It ain’t Harvard.”
Harvard? Lol. The country is run by people from the “finest” schools a chosen person can attend. Has been for decades, and look at how screwed up we are. Guy has no clue but then again he is a duck.
A high bar for getting accepted into a school doesn’t always translate to a better education.
I forgot the ducks are in the Ivy league
The ducks are in a league of their own, a fantasy league that is.
KT doesn’t know Alabama produce some of the minds that helped put humans on the moon. Dumb jock indeed.
For those that gave the downvotes?
Stigma is the word he was looking for but failed to produce.
Ragging on an Alabama education whilst propping up that UO degree?
Pat, tell him what he’s won! A future of failure after his nfl money gets pissed away after more bad decisions!!!
The “stigma” is he’s a dumb jock. And he just proved it by opening his fuck nugget pie hole.
Something tells me he will never run out of money.
A fool and their money is soon departed.
Something tells me you’re a 20 watt light bulb too.
And a duck fan, pearl necklace
There must be a point in there somewhere, but you can put on a hat and cover it up.
…reply is for pearl
“ something tells me he will never run out of money”… Haha… someone hasn’t seen the 30 on 30 called broke! Ask Bernie Kosar about how money never runs out!
The NCAA is “concerned” with NIL practices at Oregon. Similar to BYU and Miami, the NCAA is taking a closer look at how these schools have set up 3rd party entites to essentially pay student athletes to play at their specific schools. Of course it’s all the NCAA’s fault for allowing the rules to completely relax around NIL and give zero guidance. Of course some programs are going to take full advantage of the lack of rules.
But seems likely this will lead to updated regulations at a national level, which should have always been in place.

Do you know something we don’t swammi? Any proof? Kinda like the claims about Travis Dye that you talk to all the time. Or are you just ranting because the Ducks beat #3 and #5? Please share
Enough proof to warrant an investigation
MBB is sort of hanging in there, down 43-35 at half to UCLA. Davis continues to look promising at PG. Calloo continues to get more minutes than Rand. He is shooting 31% from the field. Rand is at 58%. I don’t get it.
Alatishe with no points? Wow.
Why does Calloo play? He is worthless on both ends.
This was his chance to take the next step and be something more than a streaky shooter with size. WT likes him because he can stretch the floor in a way Rand can’t, but when the shots aren’t falling…he doesn’t have much else.
Surprised that another OSU coach doesn’t play the right guys. Tinkle has no idea how to manage his own roster, seniority gets the nod just like football apparently.
There is a reason he is a sub .500 coach
It’s ok for us to make snarky comments about our teams, but we don’t need duck fans coming in here doing it too.
These guys already got banned in the past for bringing their oregonlive pissing match in here under different screen names
Snarky (your opinion) versus objective observation? It’s a fact. Tinkle consistently underperforms. He went from Elite 8 to missing the NIT in under a year with the graduation of the last team family member. Time to cut bait don’t you think?
I don’t know that the administration can do it financially, but a two-week hot streak last season probably saved his job. Unfortunately, Quack hoops seems to have turned it around. Altman gets better players, but he is also a much better coach. Surprisingly though Tinkle is 6-8 against Oregon. Was .500 until the last two losses.
The Ducks playing well is good for the conference. Having multiple ranked teams is a good thing
Not really, I like to see them lose. How did you get back in here anyway?
Well, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love that the beavers are 3-13 and projected to finish 8-23 by the experts. Tinkle is a train wreck and has been since he was hired but Oregon brings a lot of revenue to the conference no matter how you slice it.
Pearl15 = S*w*a*m*m*i*t*u*r*d
Rand was 1/1 from 3….Playing Johnson was the most bizarre/random things i ever seen, instant turnover.
We actually have a decent starting 5 – then Taylor, Rand, malone-key off bench… Tre Williams is also unplayable. WT is still playing unplayable players, amazing truly.
Steven Nelson joining the playoff Beavs ranks with Philly’s game against Dallas this afternoon (while Isaac Seumalo watches from the IR).
Philadelphia isn’t playing Dallas
They could play each other in the consolation bowl.
Anyone know what the deal is with 620 Rip City Radio’s “Blazer Flashback” spots? I get that its tough to find current highlights to promote the Blazers, but the radio cuts they use (mostly from the Drexler to Brian Grant era) are bizarre. Not so much game action, but they’ll air a two-minute snippet of Shonely coming out of a timeout in the 3rd quarter of some mid-season game in Detrot or re-capping and thanking his crew at the end of the night.
Not a Game 7 playoff win, not a key play in a key game – or a memorable highlight – just random as hell and bizzare. I understand you have to fill Ad time you don’t sell with something – but really weird.
Any update on Dorman? I appreciate all info even if it’s hunches or reading into thing. Thanks NB.
Since the other day, I’ve had a couple of conversations that convince me that we’re the solid leader right now
Appreciate it
Dorman has said in the past that he would commit sometime in Feb. So be patient! Or don’t.
Regarding the asst coaching position posting. Today is the original cutoff for receipt of resumes for candidates hoping to be considered. It’s pissible this posting could get update amd extended another week. If that doesnt happen, then it’s a sign that we have a candidate and just have to wait for the announcement. With today being a holiday, it’s possible the posting cant be updated till tomorrow if it is getting extended.

I’ll go ahead and reban the guy who talks to himself. I know lithium is in short supply due to EV sales, but come on, man.
Are they really the same guy?
Is jack back?
The duck guy could be Jack, he actually has lucid thoughts and makes some (albeit duck homo annoying) valid points at times.
Swami is a creepy basket case on his best day. If it’s the same dude posting both characters that’s some pretty impressive shit. Demented and sad, but impressive.
Saw a note that w/Utah, BYU, and Utah State, Utah was the only state to have three football teams in the final top 25.
The new Texas…
Lots of “JT Daniels plans to enter the portal” reports out there this morning.
Looks like Smith had a heads up this time
NB, the Gopher RB in the portal you mentioned earlier, Ky Thomas, committed to Kansas, his home state.
Kansas has had alot of portal success this offseason.
Maybe they’ll get Dorthy and Toto back via that thang!
Was listening to a twitter spaces group talking about JT Daniels. A speaker claims to be friends with the family and says Daniels will be coming to the west coast.
It was an interestingn conversation for a little while but seems to be dying down.
https://twitter.com/Leoshiiiiiiii/status/1483174582337089537?t=jqf_BiqncOjlx-DLm63WCw&s=19
Daniel’s would thrive at OSU I think
I think any talented QB would. There is a solid OL with a good run game and some talented up and coming TEs and WRs. If the offense had a QB that could hit the deep ball it could be the best in the pac.
Hard to say what he’s looking for this time around. People keep saying a team like OSU wouldn’t be able to compete for top tier transfers because of NIL, which I mostly agree with. But in this case, Daniels is coming from a team where he already had NIL deals, and how did that work out for him career wise? He got shelved after getting injured and never regained his starting job. But at least he got a few bucks in his pocket while he sat.
If Dart stays out west, that would help eliminate one of these teams from contention.
Looking at the West coast teams, I would think there aren’t many where a path to the starting job is as clear as at OSU.
USC: Likely signing Oklahoma transfer Caleb Williams
UCLA: Previous starter, DTR, returning for another year
Oregon: Signed transfer Bo Nix
Cal: Just brought in transfer Jack Plummer(beatable, but do they bring in 2 transfer QBs?)
Stanford: Could be a good destination, but academic standards for grad transfers could be an obstacle.
Arizona: Just brought in Jayden DeLaura
ASU: Previous starter, Jayden Daniels, returns
Colorado: Solid at QB with starter Brendan Lewis returning
Utah: Solid at QB with Cam Rising returning
WSU: Just brought in transfer Cam Ward
UW: Just brought in Penix, plus Huard on roster
Fresno St: Haener returning
Boise St: Bachmeier returning (and brought in transfer Vidlak)
SDSU: Could be a good destination with Lucas Johnson transferring out. Brookshire remains
BYU: Still have a few remaining solid options at QB but no clear cut starter
OSU: Gotta beat out Nolan. Gebbia and Gulbranson coming off injuries and limited in experience still
Would be sweet if Beavers could land Dart than score enough points to overcome Smith’s gaffes (4th down, going away from strengths)….won’t happen of course. Dart looking I think at Old Miss, TCU(?), and another school.
I wonder if Smith/Lindgren are expecting Gebbia healthy and for him to take the job back? I’m not convinced he gives the beavers the best chance to win (no pun intended) because he telegraphs, maybe has low release point that leads to passes batted down or worsted, caroming off OL helmet.
What are thoughts on a healthy Gulbranson? Clearly experience is limited so his ability to go through reads and decision-making may be a question, but does he appear to throw well and make the necessary throws?
*worse
LOL sound like a duck not academicer enough to go to UW…
Nicely researched list by Nicebeaver. But why should OSU try to get another qb when we have Gebbia returning with one leg, GUlbranson with a busted throwing shoulder and Noodle Arm Nolan with zero down-field accuracy?
So any of these qb transfers are likely to choose between BYU, OSU or stay east of the Rockies.
If the Beavs are unable to pull in a high caliber starter at qb with the oline and offensive talent, then I will begin to really question how good Smith/Lindgren are at coaching/evaluating qbs overall.
Above shows a pretty good argument for at least trying to swing for the fence on one of these 4-5 star guys transferring to OSU. Nolan is a nice qb but JT Daniels had USC rolling his frosh year until he got hurt there too. Maybe Dart could be the 3 year starter as a similar upgrade like Matt Moore was..
Likely all hat no cattle from OSU though. Stand pat and let the young guys sit and watch in frustration as Noodle-Arm Nolan gets another year to underthrow/overthrow/completely miss multiple wide recievers and TEs each game.
Dart is down to two choices already and OSU isn’t one of them
Oklahoma and ole miss? Can’t blame the guy for going to either of those spots over the Beavs. No idea what venerables offense will be but kiffin knows what he’s doing.
I wouldn’t say Colorado is solid with Lewis. They’re less solid with Lewis than we are with Nolan.
If we can’t beat out SDSU for a transfer QB, what are we even doing out there?
I’d take Lewis over Nolan of they offered a swap.
Added SDSU since he’s from California. Plus they had a better season than OSU.
Lewis? Purely based on potential? He didn’t show much this year and he had a whole season as the starter.
I’m probably high. I just thought he looked like a guy with a ton of potential and was improving as the season went on. I think his cieling is higher than Nolan.
But also could be the fact that I only saw him vs Oregon and Oregon State.
SDSU just picked up former VT and Nike QB Braxton Burmeister
Thanks for the detailed breakdown. If you are JT Daniel’s, I wouldn’t be afraid of beating Nolan. If you are, then I wouldn’t want him anyways.
It will be interesting to see what he is looking for, but OSU is his best opportunity to start based on what you shared above. Nolan was serviceable, but he had hit his ceiling IMO.
Looks like Teron Madison will end up at Dixie State
Former landing spot for one-time starting QB Nick Mitchell
Women beat #20/21 Colorado in OT 69-66
TVO w/the winning 3 in OT. Seems like a pretty cool FR. Her Jr SR years could be pretty impressive.
Nice to see Jelena get her first college 3 pointer; came at a great time in the game.
On a down note, just saw that Eggers tweets, “Word is that Taylor Jones’ shoulder injury might cost her the rest of the season. Would be a big loss for @BeaverWBB”
UNDERSTATEMENT!
.
Heard the should injury is a bulging disc. That was from fans at the game the other day.
No point in getting excited for JT Daniels until he says he’s visiting campus.
But it does seem like there was at least some backchannel whispers that Smith was privy to.
Baseball ranked 18 by D1 baseball.
Seems optimistic but maybe in the context of everyone else it makes sense. Only three pac12 teams ranked.
That seems very optimistic given our head coach is Canham.
But we’ve got Bazzana.
Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!
Any baseball guys here know what our lineup will look like this year?
Could Bazzana lead off? Hit .427 over the Summer and sounds like he was impressive all around.
Is Melton healthy? Forrester and Melton will be a pretty lethal combo. Liked how Dernedde and Meckler developed late last year and expect to see even more improvement this season.
Have no idea what Tyree Reed brings to the table. We could have a pretty productive offense this season and next.
With some help from Eggers’ preview:
C- Logan
1B- Forrester
2B- Dernedde
3B- Dukart
SS- ? Myro? Guerra? Probably some Dernedde with someone else covering 2B?
LF- Melton
CF- Meckler
RF- Boyd
There’s no point guessing at a batting order since we used a different one in every game last season.
Forgot about Bazzana in the middle infield. Sounds like some combo of he and Dernedde are likely 2B/SS.
Was just thinking the same thing. Bazzana at 2 and Dernedee at SS.
Also noticed they listed Meckler as an IF this year. Wonder if that means Reed could jump in at CF immediately?
That’s supposed to be his strength as a draft prospect. Read he had really impressive speed and range(if healthy) in the outfield and a strong arm. But hitting is a mixed bag. Wasnt he considered a 1st round draft candidate like 2 years ago, before his leg injury?
He was a top 10 candidate before what I gather was multiple injuries. His HS numbers were baaaad last season, but I just have to assume they were injury-influenced.
No clue. But one big change is the leading strikeout leaders left. Casey and Ober both averaged a k per game. Team had 512 strikeouts. Those two combined for 127 of them. That’s nearly 25 percent of the total.
Casey seemed like a bit of head case too. Just seemed to have this attitude of “my dad was coach, i do what i want” that didnt mesh well with team building, especially with a newer staff. At least that was my impression. Maybe the guys loved him. But I think his absence is a plus.
Yes, fewer automatic K’s. At least get the ball in play!
Dukart cleanup? I’d think Forrester cleanup based off last year. Dukart strikes out nearly 25% of the time. Should be lower down due to that alone.
He said that’s not the order just who would be in the lineup.
Yup. Dukart is the worst hitter in that group, and probably the most fringe starter because Boyd can play 3B if someone else earns PT in the outfield. He did play in the Cape Cod league over the summer, so that’s good experience…but his numbers weren’t good.
Melton or Forrester need to be clean-up at least from what I saw last year.
Direct from Godzone!!
I think OSU is set at the QB position. There’s a solid group of 3 I feel are comfortable making the right reads, most of the time. That’s why I think Gebbia will win the starting job.
The larger issue to be addressed is that the receivers are not getting separation, so Nolan was holding on to the ball for 4-6 seconds.
Every team needs 4 scholarship QBs in the room to account for injuries and development. Top 2 should be starter level. The rest are development guys.
It looks like we have 6, no?
They’ll have four next fall. Forgot about throckmorton.
Gebbia, Nolan, gulbranson, and throckmorton.
Blair and Hutchinson are on the roster but not on scholarship.
The whole Michael Trigg/Jaxson Dart transfer recruiting tour is such a joke. I get it, they’re big names amd highly sought after. But in reality, they’re both transfers who couldnt cut it at USC with the new staff and have less than a seson worth of conbined experience. Maybe time to be a little humble and go about your business without posing in front of Aston Martin’s or other backdrops like a couple of rock stars. It’s all so bleh…
So the whole sport becomes increasingly less watchable, bit by predictable bit…
Speaking of, Kirby Smart had an interesting take on the state of the sport yesterday. He basically said the demands of recruiting are pushing out a lot of the best coaches and making the NFL more desirable (HS, portal, NIL, etc.) This will eventually weaken the football product on the field.
Seems like ASU actually had the right idea trying to separate some of the HC responsibilities from management responsibilities (minus the whole NCAA violations thing). Smart programs will get ahead by segmenting duties like pro sports organizations do. Let the coaches primarily be coaches and leave the HR duties (e.g. recruitment) to someone else.
Yep.
I’m curious how ratings did compared to precovid. They should be up given covid pushed people to remain home. if they weren’t up then the situation is more dire than I thought.
How many here wouldn’t follow the sport if it weren’t for the Beavs? I for one, would not other than maybe a big game or two.
I do enjoy live games when they aren’t starting around my bedtime.
Yeah I’ve only followed the Beavs for years. Haven’t followed CFB broadly since…2010 or so?
I enjoy the NFL a lot more.
I would follow my FCS alma mater more.
FCS is more interesting when I can get into it, but the Beavs are hard to resist when they’re actually kind of good. FCS has more parity and dependence on quality coaching, recruiting, and development, less on boosters with big pockets, more gameday randomness. It’s been less impacted by the transfer portal, too (so far).
I wouldn’t follow it. Too many other good uses of time.
The asst coach position posting hasnt been extended yet, so seems like a good chance they have somebody in mind.
Or they could move KVA over to a LB role and bring in another staffer to help with recruiting.
Also need to replace at least one OL GA and another “advisor” role with Lose leaving for Idaho.
Men’s Basketball News, Maryland C transfer rules ineligible for remaining of season. Per the O:
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2022/01/oregon-state-center-chol-marial-ineligible-for-remainder-of-2021-22-mens-basketball-season.html
I guess, at least he’ll be eligible and healthy for next year instead of this waste of a season. My attempt to find any silver lining.
He was always a high risk-high reward signing. Tinkle’s quotes about him made it clear no one was expecting him to be a centerpiece of the team.
Waste of a season? We are still on track for the NCAA tourney. Just got to with the P12 tourney.
Wilner picks Beavs 4th in 2022:
https://www.mercurynews.com/2022/01/18/pac-12-football-2022-preview-projections-for-the-north-and-south-division-races/amp/
Sounds about right, except I would flip Cal and UW from where he has them, and keep OSU where they are. DL has major issues. And right now I dont see any other position group starting the season better off than they were coming into last season, other than maybe the confidence gained from experiencing a winning season and hopefully Defensive coaching overall will be ahead of Tibs defense, schematically.
“…dont see any other position group starting the season better off than they were…”
OTOH there is reason to think a few groups will start out worse than they did this season; O-line and RB come to mind.
In large part it comes down to how the other schools look. 4th place and a bowl seems reasonable right now.
I think secondary should be improved. Returning everyone and hopefully Julian at full strength all season.
If Gumbs plays (huge if) than I could see linebackers, and pass rushing specifically drastically improved.
Qb position would be another one, with all the experience coming back should at least be a tiny bit improved also
Chatfield could be a factor for the edge rush too.
Though of course we did lose our best pass rusher in AHM.
Wonder what Hodgins situation is?
One of the beat writers said he wasnt coming back awhile ago. So if that eas the case, wouldnt he medically retire to free up a spot?
Or maybe he is planning to come back?
That extra spot would be helpful if he isnt.
From a player on the team hodgins will be back in action next year
Really good point forgot about chatfield. I think linebackers have potential to be better but wait and see. If Robert’s replacement is close to his level(hopefully better at pass defense) than linebackers should be improved.
Kyrie Fisher is faster. So I would expect him to be better in coverage and blitzing. Not sure if he’s as sure of tackler as Roberts tho. Mascarenas has looked good in limited time as well.
I could see TE dropping off some at least as far as blocking goes. I don’t think anyone is on his level as far as blocking. Most of the guys have more potential receiving but we all know how unreliable his hands have been. There is a lot of young potential but just inexperienced.
I think Fisher will be an overall upgrade with his speed, and he’s had some pretty good opportunities to get PT. Seem to recall he had a good game against ASU.
Having Fisher, Donaldson, Chatfield on the field at the same time could be fun to see.
And Julian out there too, meant to include him.
I think we’ll be better on D… linebackers and defensive backs. D line is a question mark but think we’ll be slightly improved. Also have confidence in Bray and schemes. On offense, I think we’ll be improved at QB and receiver. TEs and Oline is probably a step back but not significant. I’m also guessing RB play will be as good or better even without Baylor. Losing Baylor hurts depth but I have confidence in the returning RBs and they should improve with additional carries. I think we could see substantial improvement with Nolan. Say what you will, he has shown steady improvement in some key fundamentals over the last year and the game is starting to slow down for him. My biggest concern is our schedule and JS game decisions. Early prediction is 7 wins
That optimistic but yet only 7 wins?
My prediction is 5.
Chuck, meet Peppermint Patty..
I’ll continue to be skeptical of this staff until they put the right guys on the field and settle down on the high risk/no reward metrics.
JS career record is at .364! He’s not Bear Bryant, or even Tommy Prothro. I’ll hold off on upside predictions after watching it all fall apart this past year.
.364, but I was told he’s building his team’s confidence in him, by being agressive!
(Confidence that they have a shot at a .500 record if things go well)
Based on difficult schedule… 7 wins. Could be more depending on JS factor, D line, and Nolan.
Most PAC teams are trying to get better, OSU appears to be standing pat. Last year, I thought OSU’s continuity was an advantage, and it ended up +2 in the win column.
Can their on-roster players, w/another year of experience make the difference in comparison to their competition? I don’t think so.
This year, I think 5 wins is likely the highest they get.
New transfer OL for OSU.
I’m taking my daughter to hoops practice so you’ll have to dig up the details.
https://twitter.com/campbell_mcharg/status/1483971057384001537?t=6DoCENag80xxNfnRSaKt7Q&s=19
Cal Poly. Coach Baldwin. Coach Wulff.
Research done.
This is their “Portal Get” this year?!?
Cant say this was anywhere near my radar
It’s a Portal Get, not necessarily The Portal Get.
4 years of eligibility at least?
Was pretty light out of high school and with 4 years to play and no scholarship it’s not a bad get. If it was a different position I might question it more but have learned to trust coach M.
Walk on transfer, per Nemec
Whew
New PWO commit too. This one was expected
https://twitter.com/BraydonBruener/status/1483985017197924357?t=Ytra7wvVpGAh5b3qAMifPg&s=19
Bruener could be a bit of a steal as a PWO. Bray was on him pretty early on. He’s a Husky legacy guy amd his brother also played LB for UW
Do you think he has the speed to play safety in the PAC?
If he did, he would have got an offer. Just one of those guys you take a flyer on and hope they stick around and develop into a contributor.
Had a pretty limited senior year, only 3 games. Probably needs time to develop like Bill mentioned. His dad was a Husky TE and his brother is currently a Husky LB.
So he’s been a Husky for years, but really likes Corvallis and the culture around the team.
And hates the ducks.
Arrives in June.
You had me at “hates the Ducks.”
Don’t know anything about him, but is it possible he’s a 2 star who just didn’t attend camps to garner offers?
Several more Beav coaches following JT Daniels in the last 24 hours.(recruiting assistants, Lindgren, graphics guy, etc.) in addition to Smith/Yray/Greenough who already were. Really looks like he’s our highest priority at the moment, recruiting wise.
It’s interesting, there doesnt appear to be nearly as much competition for Daniels as there is for Dart.
I get that Dart has 3 years left, but was he really that much more spectacular in the 6 games he has played in his career? Imagine if he didnt have Drake London out there.
Daniels also appears to have 2 years remaining. He played amd counted in 2018/2021, played a few games in 2019 and redshirted, and then 2020 he played but had the Covid season.
So 4 partial/full seasons of experience but has only used 2 years. Would be a huge upgrade at QB in terms of talent and in game experience if the Beavs somehow figure out a way to land him.
I’ll be happy if I’m wrong, but Lucy is setting up the ball…
Just keep your expectations low. He’s a 5* QB and would immediatley be the highest rated recruit for OSU all-time. So yeah, I dont have any expectation it will happen. But I am happy to see the swing for the fences effort on it. Cant hurt to try. No risk, but high reward.
Exactly right – I just like the fact it seems there is some effort in getting Daniels based on what you’re sharing.
It’s seemed like a lackadaisical approach by our staff in terms of securing transfer players up until this point.
I’m sure there is more going on behind the scenes. I doubt a follow is their only effort.
He’s not saying Daniels is a lackadaisical effort – he’s saying the portal recruiting up to this point has been.
Yeah overall effort seems lackadaisical but I’ve been a Beaver fan to long to expect a ton of really high starred portals. But who knows for sure what is going on behind the curtain.
Looks like Dart’s cheesy marketing efforts are paying off!
Just to burst everyone’s bubble, even in a highly speculative list, the Beavs aren’t listed.
https://athlonsports.com/college-football/jt-daniels-transfer-schools-oklahoma-usc-california-ole-miss
The article reads as more of a list that the Athlon writer thinks may have a need at QB, rather than a list of teams actually having mutual interest with Daniels.
You’ve gotta think a starting opportunity and team need are the biggest drivers at this point in his career.
UCLA makes no sense with DTR returning. USC, if they sign Williams also doesnt make sense. Northwestern just looks odd on this list and is mentioned as a team that “should be looking for help” I get the impression this writer is just spitballing to throw content out there.
If I were Daniels I’d be looking for a good offensive line with good receivers… more important then school name if he is trying to get to the next level (not saying Beavs have all of these). But have a feeling these young guys are looking for pretty and shinny (quackerheads type).
That, and lots of exposure playing night games on Pac12 Network
Beavs do have both. A line that produced a 5.3 avg per carry plus only 14 sacks. Keeps the QB jersey clean. Essentially 4 starters are coming back. Only real loss is Eldridge. Brewer played enough to be regarded as a returning starter.
The most talented group on the team is the WR group. There are 4 guys there who were top 300 recruits in the espn rankings coming out of high school.
Harrison
Lindsey
Tongue
Dunmore
Gould and Irish could be good if they could do more than fly sweeps.
Beason can be right up there too.
Valsin seems promising as well.
Getting a guy like Daniels would really unleash the WR group’s potential. Gould and Irish could stretch the field and let the other guys run open underneath. Daniels has the arm to throw the deep ball that the WR doesn’t have to slow down for.
Smith needs to sell that point hard and his success of developing QBs. Using guys like Browning and Luton.
Can someone please send Daniels Bill’s post… what he said.
I posted a paraphrased version. Cant hurt, I guess. Unless the trolls get ahold of it, haha
https://twitter.com/BeavRecruiting/status/1484327144058617859?t=TqnDijGoj6UewLa8M5ZfyQ&s=19
That’s why it’s puzzling to me they couldn’t find someone better than Noyer knowing their situation coming into the season. If Nolan can have such high efficiency ratings imagine what a 5 star could do.
Man I strongly disagree that our WR group is the most talented group on the team. None of them are proven playmakers- our most consistent guy just graduated in Bradford.
Gould has been very good with limited opportunities- don’t know why he doesn’t see the field more.
Harrison’s been generally solid – but disappears too often and for too long.
Lindsay’s been very up and down with great plays and awful ones; great games and awful ones. Inconsistent.
Tongue and Dunmore basically haven’t seen the field so I’m not ready to render judgment.
Beason was ABSOLUTELY awful for most of last year, just brutal. I think he had more drops than catches on the year (if not it’s close). Possible he could bounce back but he is in no way a reflection of our WR talent.
Irish only runs fly sweeps- Valsin no idea.
They have the most talent. Doesn’t mean it translates to production. My argument is that a QB like Daniels would unlock all that potential.
Harrison’s skill set seems kind of limited. He’s a really good RAC guy, but hasn’t been a consistent downfield threat. Lindsay avoids contact in a big way, so I think that’s made him inconsistent.
Beason blocks well and sounds like a practice field All-American, but his playing time dropped off toward the end of the year as his production waned.
Gould is statistically the best of the bunch, but he’s had limited time.
They all have huge potential (plus Dunmroe and Tongue), hence the recruiting ratings, but they also have flaws holding them back.
That said, I think some of the lack of production has been on Nolan. His somewhat limited range has limited his receivers’ production (I saw this as seemingly Nolan’s biggest defender on AB).
Another top tier transfer to USC. Stanford RB Austin Jones is a Trojan now
Meh, he was a disappointment whenever he had a chance as the #1 guy. Has potential, but hasn’t panned out yet.
supposedly Mama on Blitz recently teased that some guy named JT Daniels is a new transfer QB to keep an eye on and that the Beavs are on his radar. derp
LMAO
Mama on blitz must be reading angrybeavs ?
Just based off tweets from HS coaches, it looks like Coach Steward is really making the rounds right now while coaches are allowed to visit HS campuses.
It would be nice if this helped translate to Smith signing another higher class than the previous year. Dorman would certainly help with that. I’d like to c Smith get into the top half or third of the conference in recruiting. They could win the conference with that level of talent like Utah with the right coaching. The defensive side of the ball is the obvious weakness right now which is why I thought the DC hire was so important. The jury is still out on Bray and I hope it works out but it just seemed like a typical beaver hire. Just go through the motions, not think big and go with the easy hire. I hope Bray cam be the guy and I like his intensity compared to Tibs but whoever the DC at OSU is needs to be able to outcoach and game plan the other side with the talent available. I also think this will probably be Lindgren’s last year here most likely so it’s possible the offense could take a step back after. We do have Smith who is an offensive mind so I think they won’t slide too far. Hopefully they can find an even better guy after Lindgren but being in the top 3 in the pac which is a better offensive conference than defense typically is pretty solid and can win a lot of games with a top half of the conference defense.
Looks like he’s laying the groundwork for future classes
Amazing how quickly Nemec is to dog on Mario considering how up his ass he was for the time he was there. Also saying Oregon had no talent at wr when Herbert was there. Think he called them FCS talent receivers. Lol. That fan base is wild. One day Mario is the savior and the very next he was a no good terrible coach they should’ve gotten rid of earlier. I know the whole drama of that coaching change has been done with for a bit but I still have to laugh at the delusion that surrounded that process.
I’m sure Lanning is lighting the recruiting world on fire with his recent 3* signings. Let me guess, they’re all sneaky good under the radar 3* guys who have the potential to be all Pac12 as freshmen. Elite! A new level! Changing the game!
Yep. Lol. Yeah, J Lowe that recently committed to them is a good example. When Beavs offered him it was like, he’s a good athlete and will probably get more offers but was about it. Commits to Ducks and it’s the sky is the limit, etc. Could be true but definitely had a different tone when Beavs offered vs when he went to the Ducks. Lol.
Drives me nuts listening to that guy talk about recruits. Sucks, because he’s about the only person who does it without a paywall.
They’re always the #2 DT in the west, or #4 JC all league, or #3 overall athlete from _____.
He relies so heavily on the various site rankings to help embellish his stories.
And just gets so excitable when talking about and to them.
Gives off the vibe of a guy who wasnt well liked by his peers in high school, so he’s making up for it now by being trying to be the cool adult who can hang with the HS kids. It’s a weird personality

Kiffin goes the Athens. Think we’ll see Smith pay a visit? doubtful.
AndersensCheerCoach just registered an account. This should be fun.

RIP Meatloaf
Sad
Love Bat Out of Hell! Hopefully he’s a bat into heaven, if such a thing exists. Parallel universe at the least.
If not, two out of three ain’t bad…
His name was Robert Paulson.
Meat Loaf & comedian Louie Anderson both passed
Whenever I think of Louis Anderson, I think of a joke I heard him tell a long time ago in a standup routine.
“I went to a McDonalds the other day. A sign said “wet floor”……so I did”
His delivery was perfect. Hilarious to a young nicebeaver. RIP, Louie.
Loved him in his minor role in Coming to America, and he was amazing in Baskets as Zach Galifianakis’s mom
I’ve never heard of Baskets. Will need to look it up
It’s…interesting…
You’re not missing anything. Zack Galafawhatshisname is about as funny as explosive diarrhea.
He was a native Minnesotan and would randomly come on the morning show I listen to here. Always hilarious with perfect timing.
Will miss him

“The Return” To mediocrity. 7/6, #55 of 124 FBS teams. Impressive.
Travis Dye to USC
smart man
Dye is a playmaker in the passing game. This was a huge get for Lincoln Riley.
The whole intra-conference transfer thing has been interesting. In the past a player had to sit 2 years to transfer between conference school unless they were a grad transfer. Now it’s no wait at all. Oregon fans can complain all they want, but they’ve snagged a UW and Colorado transfer already this cycle, so they really need to stfu
So potentially an Oklahoma transfer QB and an Oregon RB….they won’t even look like USC.
College semi-pro free agency is on such a quicker scale than pro NFL….
Watch coaches or agents start to broker trades…ha!
And Jerry Rice’s kid transferred from Colorado to USC to play WR
Oregon RB and Stanford RB, USC is going to become a run-based offense again, watch them start pulling in 5 star Oline transfers next.
The only time he’d play vs the ducks would be in the title game. Seems strategic in that choice.
I love laughing at the Duck’s misfortune, but what a traitor. Any Beaver who transfers to another Pac 12 program is dead to me.
Ethan Long leaving the ASU bench and entering the transfer portal…
Fun to watch the Dicks fans act like Dye didn’t meant anything. Can’t wait to see a healthy verdell and then dollars, mcgee and cardwell all hit transfer button again and then come back again and then leave again after much consideration and please respect my decision talk haha
Beavs offered QB Dom Montiel a PWO offer today. Not sure if he’s leaning more toward taking a scholarship at a lower division or trying to walk on and earn a spot. Personally, I think he should go to a PSU and get some college experience and then transfer somewhere else later if a good opportunity presents itself. Why walk on and pay your own way to ride the pine? Transfer rules have basically made the Big Sky our JUCO.
Another local PWO offer. Could see him landing at OSU.
Has a good frame to work with. LB most likely.

Did I miss the announcement that OSU gymnast Jade Carey has a $200,000 NIL deal? It’s the highest $ deal out of any Oregon school.
Sounds like you didnt miss it
Hadn’t seen it discussed here. Seems like a big deal that she doubled KT’s Nike deal.
Gold medals will do that
Hers is likely from the post-Olympics exhibition tour. Medal-winning gymnasts probably have better NIL opportunities than guys like KT who are good, but not celebrity-level football players.
Derek Mason resigns from Auburn. I’m encouraging a family member of his to have apply for the LB position with the Beavs. I am holding my breath.
He’s headed to Oklahoma state.
I’ll be damned. Athlon Sports picks BSU & OSU as the #10 best opening day matchup in 2022.
UO v. Georgia at a “neutral” site of Atlanta is # 2, Utah @ Florida #4. These two teams will give the PAC exposure right out of the gate. I suspect few will watch 7-5 BSU & 7-6 OSU.
Beavs defensive staff needs to study Iowa St and converse with Matt Campbell and his defensive staff at Iowa St. It seemed like they beat Lincoln Riley more than most in the Big12.
USC is going to have a quick flash of excitement and lots of hype with incoming transfers/big recruits. My hope is they can eclipse all of the Duck flash and become the standard bearer again. It is better for them to carry the torch for the conference than DUcks anyway.
If Lincoln Riley gets Caleb WIlliams, they are immediately an upgraded offense, before anyone even takes the field. WHat Riley is able to do on the defensive side will be the question. His OU teams were athletic and aggressive but seemed to always have breakdowns. The Grinch returns with Riley to Pac12.
Beavs have this upcoming year to get to the Rose Bowl and I think the window closes for good. USC will be back to Pete Carroll status for the next 10 years, unless Riley becomes the repeat of Bob Stoops losing that 1 costly game each year. This is Lincoln Riley’s chink in the armor, he will lose an inexplicable game each year. Beavs get them early at home next year, perhaps before USC can put everything together.
“Back to Pete Carrol status:” cheating?
And are you forgetting that NC head coach in Eugene already?!? : )
NIL in LA will allow/encourage a less sleazy version of Pete Carroll with all of the cache and glitz that happened while USC was rolling and the glamour set became the big boosters for a while. Within months, lots of legal cash will flow this time around, and plenty of CA guys will stay to take part, many east coast guys will join the party and it will become a destination again for 5 star talent.
Lincoln Riley will just try to do a cheap imitation of a cooler version Pete Carroll, like a Matthew McConnahay type midwest cool vibe that SoCal can identify with, then put a showtime offense on the field. He will dispense with the air raid principles and likely embrace a running game and downfield passing game, mixed with an aggressive defense that Grinch always has done. It will be a problem for the conference by year 2, but by year 3-4 Grinch may get his shot to be a head coach…USC has talent, they just need to be coached, which hasn’t happened for about 10 years.
Anyone listen to Ryan Leaf podcast “Bust?” Just finished episode one. DE recruited him to Miami.
Hey, NB, I see a highly-rated Nebraska LB is in the portal and quite a few Beaver coaches follow him on Twitter. Are those new follows or from high school? https://twitter.com/wyndenhoohuli?s=21
Good eye. But i dont see any recent follows.
Not necessarily a bad thing though
His position coach went to the Quacks, so perhaps following him. Hawaiian kid.
Nemec indicates in a podcast intro article that 2023 could be best Beavers recruiting class ever(?).
Definitely has the potential to be. Especially with Dorman looking like a near lock and 4 star recruits such as Rashid Williams, Kodi decambra, and more being high on us already. Also high priority guys such as Demarcus Houston, Isaiah Carlson, Landen Hatchett and more being pretty interested in us.
Ya that’s pretty much what I said above earlier. Smith has been getting better and better classes each year and that’s without signings big time QB recruit to build the class around. If they do in fact sign Dorman and he is an active peer recruiter it could really help encourage other top athletes to commit to the class. Like NB has said there is a long time before signing day so it will be tough to hang on to him the whole time.
If smith can consistently sign a top 5 class in the pac I think that will be enough to compete with in the conference. Just need to get the defense improved and they can matchup with anyone in the league. Bray needs to show he can take the next step with the defense in order for this team to continue to improve in the win column.
Dorman’s on an unofficial to Arizona this weekend.
Hopefully Fisch isn’t able to sway him.
https://twitter.com/brayden_dorman/status/1484900797317992450?t=93XnHZq6VCR_gMfW7D4x0A&s=19
Fisch is a bad coach that keeps falling upward. Terrible QB coach here at MN, but keeps moving up. I couldn’t believe he got the AZ gig!
Big innovation is having QBs throw tennis balls….which he copied from Leach I believe.
They were impressed by his Powerpoint skills
He just got de Laura and has an incoming qb that helped him land their top recruit McMillan I think it was that flipped from the ducks. Hope Dorman sees that depth and comes to Corvallis.
Good point
Arizona is in his top 5 so not surprising. I’d guess he’s not going to have any bad visits. Smith and Lindgren will need to close hard after he finishes visiting his top 5.
There was an article about him and Iowa state and that his dad is an isu grad and he has family in Iowa. They are a much stronger candidate than thought.
I know Smith doesn’t do much if any negative recruiting but there is a lot they can use against the other schools. Campbell isn’t going to stay at isu much longer since he’s a candidate at any job opening. Dorrell was pretty close to being fired this year. Fisch has never lasted very long at any job he’s had. And Leach won’t last much longer in the sec. Smith is the only one who is secure in his job for the foreseeable future. The other coaches might be gone before the next signing day.
For whatever reason AZ has been recruiting really well. Hopefully doesn’t work on Dorman.
Should we shoot for 2,000 comments? I think around 1k is the record.
Dorman looks the part for sure.
Kyle Peko playing with Titans. Thought the name sounded familiar, they list OSU and Cerritos College under his college resume. I can’t help but laugh at future “resumes” with 5+ schools listed — gotta love the new normal with the way the Glory Hole portal is coming along.
I trust JS is watching the game. Half-time commentator ”Only Go for Two When You Have To.”
Yeah but Esiason is a total Boomer.
The thing I remember most about Peko is that he had to pass a Summer Term bowling “class” to become eligible. Maybe JS should have had him speak to the team before the Jimmy Kimmel game.
High drama surrounding the Hawaii coaching search. UH wanted to bring in June Jones as a temporary caretaker and eventually hand the reins to Timmy Chang after two years. According to June, the school insisted on dictating assistant hires and he bristled at the two-year window.
Someone from UH turned around and bashed him for having “zero integrity” during the process and digging up June’s insubordination and supposed lack of integrity when he left Hawaii and (eventually) SMU.
So Timmy Chang will be the new Hawaii HC.
Hawaii has to be the toughest job in D1. They don’t even have a stadium to play in anymore and a new one isn’t being built anytime soon.
New Aloha Stadium construction will start in 2023.
https://www.khon2.com/local-news/construction-on-new-aloha-stadium-to-break-ground-in-2023-hawaii-senator-calls-for-urgency/
Is it possible the Beavs are happy with the guys on the roster and dont see the need to chase guys in the portal any longer?
Or are they just falling flat in all of their efforts to continue to upgrade talent on the roster?
Do we have some sophomore d-line guys that they are developing?
Can Nolan really improve with enough upside to be better than a 5 star recruit coming in to learn the offense from scratch?
Low activity/low expectations rather than low ego/high IQ/high output
Too much roster turnover and instability could be counter-productive, reducing continuity and perhaps making existing players insecure. There’s something to be said for sticking to your recruiting as long as you are evaluating well and getting commitments.
Many of these transfers need to be plug and play or go into plug and play schemes I would think.
I’m surprised that Broussard is visiting USC w/them signing two recent RB transfers. Maybe the thinking is get the best NIL deals, be part of a winning program, reduce # of carries, get ready for draft.
I think JS is content with the roster to some degree. I recall an interview with him a few years ago when he said he wanted to be less dependent on the portal as the program got more established. If there’s a difference maker at a position of need that they have legit shot at, I’m thinking they’ll take a run but I’m not surprised to see less portal action this year.
I’m sure he was surprised how little transfer outs he’s had after the season. I guess he’ll have to wait until after spring ball to find out if any guys are going to transfer.
Hufanga had a TD last night for the 49ers.

Women beat UW 47-41
Corosdale leads WBB to their second conf win, 47-41.
Gotta love defense and a win’s a win, but a scoreless 2nd qtr by BOTH teams?
That sounds like “A” or “B” jr. high basketball only a parent could watch…
Not scoreless Beavs 6, UW 8
My mistake, only watched last few minutes. I’d looked at previous box score; the one that showed Kennedy Brown with 42 min.; should have been a tip off!
Pete Thamel: Sources: Oregon State is expected to hire Anthony Perkins as the school’s next corners coach. He’s a veteran coach with experience the last three years at Colorado State. He spent the two years prior with the Tampa Bay Bucs and has coached at Ohio University and Indiana St.
Beat me to it

Did I miss something regarding Blue Adams?
It could indicate a shift in the base defense or just responsibilities. Instead of two linebacker coaches as before, there would be just one, Bray. It does say cb coach, not secondary coach.
Adams the safeties coach and Perkins the cb coach.
Thanks Bill, I’ve been offline all weekend. I wasn’t sure if I had missed news about Coach Blue being reassigned, taking a new opportunity, etc.
Good call. Improvement at safety has been noticeable under Blue. CB’s have been a mixed bag. That said, might be seen as a demotion for Adams.
Also, this could portend a shift to 4-3 next year if Bray is going to remain as the only LB coach.
I probably should know this, but I can’t remember…who is our D Line coach?
Exactly.
Hi RN…. Update from Costa Rica since you asked about the surfing aspect. After a month it’s great. Fell into a daily routine. The surf instructors give their lessons twice a day, morning and afternoon. The hours are posted on chalk boards outside the various meeting spots. They gather around sunrise for the best waves. Too damn early for me. After the lessons the instructors surf on their own which provides some pretty good entertainment, as they are all experts.
I usually head out about 9-9:30. I’m far from an expert so the waves work for me. I pick a nice 3-4 footer as measured from siting on my board and, since I’m not goofy footed, generally work left to right. Can usually catch a nice ride before I bail out.
Since the rides are short and my pop-up takes longer than it used to I’ve started to use a body-board. It amounts to almost as much fun with half the effort.
Nosara is a great place to escape the Oregon winter. Think we’ll head home in a few weeks.
I checked into AB a few times and know what’s going on, or not going on, with MBB. Out… for now.
It’s hard to believe josh allen is very good.
I was hoping for a Bills/Rams superbowl, Bills winning, with a Bengals/Bills AFC championship. ALMOST got it.
Did Poyer lose control of a fumble they after they had just recovered one? Luck O’Da Beavs?
Jade Carey is the real deal. Gymnastics might be the most entertaining sport the Beavs have right now. Great atmosphere for kids.
Umm, yeah…gold medal? One of the best in the world?!? Great “get” for Beavs!
That was a hell of a divisional round.
Rona finally got me but atleast I got to watch good football.
Yes, just wish the Bills would have won. Otherwise enjoyed the competitive nature of the games and the outcomes
NFL Overtime Rules suck… they need to adopt NCAA OT rules.
It’s a travesty that both teams don’t get the same opportunity to possess the ball in overtime.
It’s a travesty that the #1 defense in yards and points against gave up a TD so easily in OT.
The argument has always been play better defense if you don’t want to lose. It used to be any score wins, but yeah the time has come for change.
You are right but the silliness of this is the defense is usually always worn down by the end of the game compared to the offense. So the coin toss gives unfair advantage to the winner of the toss.
Below is from an article today I found.
“Since the NFL adopted new overtime rules in 2010, teams that get the ball first in the OT period have fared far better than those starting on defense. In 11 playoff games, teams that win the coin toss are 10-1.”
I don’t really love the NCAA rules either though. I’d like to just see where you play normal football but the 2nd team always gets a chance to match. Bills get a chance after Mahomes scored, they get a TD and Chiefs go again and Bills can still match a second time. It is funny though, I remember in 2018 before the OT coin flip saying whoever won the toss of the Chiefs-Pats game would take it. No one was outraged when Brady was on the winning side of the coin flip.
I would love to see some of those offensive concepts from the KC and Buffalo game trickle down into the OSU system
I don’t know if a divisional round ever featured 4 games with such narrow margins. Three games won by 3 points, Cin and SF by FGs as time expired, one game won by 6 in OT?
Baseball america knows something we don’t. Ranked the beavs at #11. Program rep clearly is helping here.
Whose catching this year to replace Claunch?
That seems like the most significant loss from last season
We’ll have to wait for an in depth preview from a media person, otherwise we’ll find out when the lineup is posted for the first game.
Logan is the frontrunner, right? He has game experience from last year (with pretty decent batting stats), and I think he was mentioned most prominently in the Eggers article.
Probably right, i just dont remember him much from last season.
I feel like that #11 preseason ranking is a year premature. Next year I think has that potential though, after this team has a season together.
As long as pitching is solid next year.
Some Anthony Perkins stats courtesy of PFF. Cornerback position ratings for starters by units he’s coached:
2014 Ohio (before Perkins)- 71.2
2015 Ohio- 76.2
2016 Ohio- 84.1
2018 CSU (before Perkins)- 63.7
2019 CSU- 67.8
2020 CSU- 68.2
2021 CSU- 59 (first-team all-conference CB from the past season and top CB somehow just completely fell apart)
Compare to
2019 OSU- 69.3
2020 OSU- 63
2021 OSU- 63.9
Not huge improvement at CSU, though he coached one guy who received individual accolades. Ohio was a really strong stop that he parlayed into some minor NFL experience before moving back to college. His guys have a pattern of getting better over time, which is more than we can say for OSU CB’s the past 4-5 years.
Do we know how he is as a recruiter? Seems like this staff could use some help in that department especially on the defensive side.
I agree about this staff benefiting from any improvement in recruiting. With a degree in integrative physiology, Perkins might be a good recruiter…or maybe he has skill in the sports psychology area.
I think between him and Blue in a room together that’s a great combo!
Not seeing it talked about much anywhere, but Dorman was at Arizona over the weekend and seemed to enjoy his visit. One Rivals Arizona writer quoted him as saying it “exceeded his expectations”
Also, OSU coaches(Lindgren and Hynson) were back at Vista Ridge HS(Dorman’s school) today, probably doing some post visit follow up and damage control.
Also looks like we were visiting with one of the WRs from Vista, Brandon Hills. So maybe we’re considering offering Hills to come with Dorman to OSU.
It’d be pretty hard to screw up these visits by any school.
Hopefully the coaches know what’s the most important things he wants in a school and they lean into that hard. He’s the big fish that could really propel the class into a high ranking.
Tucson is a dump. All it has is homeless camps, desert heat, tumbleweeds, trash and trailer parks…and that’s just U of A campus, very similar to Eugene/U of O actually. He should revisit the OSU campus again to cleanse himself from the stench of Tucson.
Drove to Tucson once, and that was enough for me. Don’t even waste your time. Pulman is elegant compared to that tired college town.
Don’t underestimate the coed factor on campus
Hey NB do you know how the new coach is as a recruiter?
NB have you seen any Beav coaches following Lathan Adams, CB transfer from CSU? CSU’s top recruit in their last class, Perkins would have been his position coach and probably recruited him.
Nobody follows him, other than Perkins
Do you find that most recruits have a twitter?
Vast majority do. Vast majority also have Instagram and probably are more active in there overall, but twitter works better for recruiting communication and more coaches use that platform. IG is used more for pics/videos and friends reactions. I personally hate that platform
#11 ranking seems very, very optimistic for this group. Not much playing experience at catcher…I believe it’s Logan starting and the concern is real as there wasn’t much play time aside from Claunch behind the plate…at least not any real meaningful minutes. 2 juniors (Logan and TJ Wheeler) and 2 frosh. 11 seems very high for a team that limped into the post season and finished tied for 5th thanks to Cal losing their final series if I’m recalling correctly. Not to mention we lost a lot of experience last year. I think offensively we could be better but pitching is more of the unknown for me. Hjerpe, Frisch, Pfennings, mundt and Verburg are the main guys from last season that saw time. Reid Sebby to some extent but this is a pretty untested group outside of the 5 or 6 guys listed above. Maybe it’s more of an indication of the rest of college baseball but I think 11 is much too high for a team that lost the experience they did and how they ultimately played last year. Would love to be wrong but seems like a lot of questions going into this year.
I’m not a fan of Dorman…coached a school record in K’s but also set records for hit batters and walks not to mention it seemed like we gave up a ton of home runs last year. Considering we set records for fielding percentages and K’s yet gave up a shit ton of runs was all due to the walks, hit batters and home runs. Weren’t too many base hits lol. Anyway, Dorman is like Tibesar for me. I was a fire Tibs guy from year 1, and am the same with Dorman here. Would love to be wrong.
Looking forward to the Surprise series, always love watching the games in person. If I’m the opponents I’m probably not swinging the bat to start. Make these young pitchers prove they can get strikes and not give up the free bases.
Dang you, Creek, I’d almost forgotten about all those free bases from last season!
Remember You can’t read into the fielding %. Angry taught us that it’s actually a meaningless stat because all it really means is we’re making the routine plays and doesn’t account for exceptional plays. I wonder if he ever saw Armstrong at short
That’s exactly right. Range factor is what’s important. Fielding % means close to zero.
At least you’re learning.
On the other hand, we return most of our key contributors from last year, in addition to having highly rated recruits moving up and some guys still emerging.
I think the thesis here is that the bats will be better than last year because they are more experienced (plus new talent). There may be a little drop off in fielding and pitching, but we can “afford it” with better offense.
Key contributors? That’s a wide definition at least on offense.
Ober is the only guy with an above average OPS in a meaningful sample of AB’s. Most of the guys we lost were mediocre at best on offense.
Melton, Forrester and Meckler is a nice return for this offense. I think this season is a bit reversed compared to our “normal”. Offense is likely the strength but pitching could very well be the big question mark. As mentioned above, outside of 6 players, rest of the pitching staff has little to no innings at all. Also found this to be interesting, we only have 2 lefties on the roster…Hjerpe and a freshman. Perhaps that will help limit some if the analytics this staff is so fond of using. Instead of pulling the righty that retired 5 batters straight to put the lefty in with an 8.0 ERA to face their best hitter they may decide to keep the pitcher that’s been cruising in. Lol.
Anyway, feels like we’ve had teams return much more experience and proven performance and haven’t been ranked nearly as high as 11 for a preseason start. But perhaps I’m the one missing something…I’m just the guy on the couch after all.
Didn’t Simon Sandberg announce he was entering the portal? I don’t see him listed there. I wouldn’t mind him coming back for depth.
Names that are officially in the portal are:
Vidlak, Hennessy, Forest, and Madison.
Only Vidlak has officially found a new home.
Maybe Bray talked him back in because they are likely changing schemes.
Madison transferred to Dixie State. He announced on his Instagram about a week ago
I never heard that. Wouldn’t make a lot of sense since he’s a starter and isn’t going to get an NIL deal anywhere.
Never saw sand berg in there. We need him for depth for sure. Quincy Wright, hodgins, sandberg, and rawls with Donaldson on the edge. Time to get frisky!
It was Skelton not Sandberg, my bad. I see it still listed on his twitter but nothing on the portal site.
Lolohea?
Beavs set to hire former Arizona OL and current Toledo GA Jacob Alasdek as a OL grad assistant
Do you have a link i can post?
https://footballscoop.com/thescoop/the-scoop-tuesday-january-25-2022
Thanks GB
Makes sense. Two way connection. Linemate of Eldridge and played under Michalczik for all of his college career.
Toledo has some good coaching brains there right now. Another plus.

OSU with 3 McDonald’s All Americans, when is the signing period? Let’s hope they can keep this class together
Nevermind only two, Grace VanSlooten list as OSU she is going to Eugene.
?? They’ve already signed…
Hey nicebeav I asked above but didn’t get an answer. Not sure if you know but how is the new coach as a recruiter?
Sorry, this thread doesnt load very well on my phone anymore and i just missed it.
But I dont know how he is. Encouraging that he was the coach who landed CSU’s top recruit in their 2021 class, but also not super encouraging that CSU’s top recruit likely wouldnt have been a player OSU would take in their 2021 class.
Cal offered Brayden Dorman today.
Hopefully too late. He did mention in an interview that he values his relationships with recruiting coaching staffs and that was an area OSU seemed to be leading.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CZK6I12Pgzn/?utm_medium=copy_link
In some university rankings (e.g. us news world report FWIW) Cal is a top 25 university nationally w/out-of-state tuition $44K, OSU #162 w/out of state tuition of $32.2.
I think the Beavs would offer a better offense though..
I think we need to kill this thread. I can barely get my device to load and post anymore.
New General Thread? Or does anybody have a topic to start a new one?
Bummer! I wanted at least 1.2k
If my message about the kicker came through, ignore it. I had it chambered in case he committed to OSU, but he didnt.
I think the Beavs decided to look elsewhere. Maybe his senior year didnt impress them enough
Interesting, I have no trouble loading it on phone…
I have no trouble, either. Anyone else chime in?
It does take awhile to load on my device.

I really enjoy Mitch’s demeanor. He values competition and that seems to be replicated in the team. This team intrigues me and I am excited for the season to start.
Has anyone tracked how often a new variant comes out? I see the new release of BA 2.
There are new variants all the time but many of them don’t have significant changes to be notable. Variants of concern are the ones that are worth noting as an average joe. Look at the wiki and you can see loads of variants of various classifications.
WHO does most of the major tracking.
They try to get one for each season. The new spring variant should be out by late February, so too late to give it to your sweetie for Valentines Day.
New virus variants are scheduled for release just prior to the scheduled attempt of new mandates.
New virus variants are also quite useful as fodder to clog a news cycle for numerous weeks, providing cover for any embarrassing news that may need time to blow over and be forgotten.
New virus variant releases are also very important for pharmaceutical companies in order forecast future earnings, and payoffs for the medical scientists, and create a need for more vaccines even if they prove ineffective after a while.
Fauci has a nice gig of creating a problem (paying for gain of function virus research), then providing the solution (predesigned vaccine), and then another solution (booster shots forever), getting rich as an untouchable government bureaucrat (lied to congress multiple times, partnered with CHinese labs and military, knowingly decieved the American people about HCQ and Ivermectin, suppressed truth about a lab created virus)
Everything is a conspiracy. Nothing you see with your own eyes is actually what it appears to be. Even this blog is part of a conspiracy. Angry is actually Phil Knight. He doesn’t need any of the money we send him. And he feeds all of the info from this site to the Chinese government, who focus their satellite lasers on our wide receivers just as they’re attempting to catch a pass. There’s nothing we can do about it. We’re destined to live our lives as pawns in a giant chess match of the gods.
And they would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling AngryBeavs!
I like satire. Thanks Ohiobeav
Fun fact: the EUA’s on Pfizer’s and Moderna’s product expire at the end of the month.
Both companies will request a 2 year renewal.
I think you’re over the top, but I confess to wishing I’d bought some Pfizer a couple of years ago.
Pfizer stock isn’t bad, you could have doubled your money in 2 yrs at best, but if you’re using hindsight then you would have been a lot better off buying Tesla.
Champ has hit the portal
If he goes to fcs, he will be a superstar. He proved he could stick around at the fringes at the fbs level but size was always going to hold him back. He belonged at the that level the entire time. Good luck to him!
Watch him go to Boise st to team up with Vidlak and kill us in game 1 next season
LOL…that’s an excellent prediction!
I truly doubt he’ll be a “superstar”.
Haha. Seriously.
Glad he decided to take off. Now the coaches aren’t as tempted to keep him in. Tongue, valsin, transfer from penn st need to push Lindsey, Harrison and Beason.
Uh and Gould or Irish should be returning kicks and getting all of his touches.
One of them tried and fumbled on the first attempt last year or the year before. So they didn’t get another shot.
Really? Gould was a stud when Lindsey was out (Hawaii game) and Irish played great in the bowl game.
That was Irish. He fumbled in 2020, but I think he did get a chance toward the end of 2021 and didn’t fumble so…progress!
You know Champ was one of those kids that worked his tail off and knew the playbook inside and out so coaches had no choice but to play him to help set the standard for that position group. He probably was more valuable to the team in that regard than his production on the field. I wish him nothing but success the rest of the way.
He had good hands and was a willing blocker, too. It’s not like he was totally useless, he just had obvious limitations.
There were several times where he got put on his ass trying to block tho.
Overman is a great redzone threat and can catch everything. Would love to see him get some looks when we run dual TE sets. Also this is Speights front 7 now. He has to step up and be a leader.
Well let’s see if Flemings leaving is an indication of an incoming transfer.
Ok st backup QB hit the portal a couple days ago. He looks like a potential target.
Flemings is transferring? That would be great news.
Either that or going hard for an NIL deal…so I guess transfer
Angry, that post was at least 10 prior to yours. Are you sure you don’t want a new thread? My issue isn’t load time but with this much volume I go to the bottom and scroll up. I’m sure I miss more than a few posts that way.
Yeah, I went up and saw it after I typed that. It is hard to find things. BUT….1.2k is a tasty goal, no?
No
