Some cool stuff happening like getting a basketball guy from the MAC, our baseball team losing, portal transfers, etc.
At least we have a thread that will load faster. As Beav fans these days, we have to appreciate minor victories.

I don’t
care anymore
No mo…no mo
Haha. This is so sad it had to be split over two comments.
The baseball team doesn’t care anymore either.
Well, Beaver sports were fun while they lasted. I should get some poster board that says the “The End is Nigh” and take to the streets of Corvallis in an old timey plague mask as a throwback to 2020.
I mean…we might get to be a big fish in a small pond in the next two years but eventually I see our athletic department going the way of the Dodo…or we sell our souls to Big Whatever conference thanks to Scott Barnes and his numb hands that he has sat on during his tenure.
To the downvoters…who hurt you? Clearly I’m joking. Your parents didn’t hug you enough. ?
Good grief, Charlie Brown. OSU’s football history is composed of droughts, sleepy administrators, bad coaches there too long, big moments to which we cling until realizing they were 20 years ago. There are bits and pieces and good stories and recent hopes but JS took the coaches and players and a possibility of good things to Michigan State. Add realignment, NIL, slimy agents, and corporate teams. Our biggest recent victory has been the lawsuit. We are a small fish in a small, polluted pond. But on autumn days in 2024, in the lovely new stadium, I think Trent Bray and a new team deserve some faith and loyalty.
Agreed. And people keep commenting we shouldn’t be playing the Ducks this fall. Can someone explain that one?
We’ll need to do so, just to get a quality win/loss for the next year or two.
But after that, they can go play in the Midwest.
Cause we’ll get our asses kicked? I get that we have to play this game for the revenue, but this was already an uphill battle when we were getting similar TV money. This will soon turn into us being like a Portland State vs UO type thing where it won’t even be competitive. Not to mention, this could be one of the Yucks best teams’ from top to bottom of all time and we’ll be coming in replacing 19 or 20 of the offense and defensive starters with a brand new system and brand new coaches.
So pretty much what the majority if duck-beav games have been like. We shouldn’t play them because they’re too good is a lame argument.
2024 College World Series – Winner
BetMGM current odds 5/2/2024
Texas A&M +500
Arkansas +600
Tennessee +1000
Clemson +1200
Oregon St +1400
Wake Forest +1500
Anybody else see the Texas A&M coach yesterday talking about using live tv feeds in the the dugouts and how another SEC program was caught already this year using a livefeed during home games. Turns out that team hits quite a bit better at home than on the road (like low .300s vs low .200s)
Based on the numbers he gives, everybody is pointing to Arkansas. Wonder how that will play out if/when Arkansas hits Omaha?
And I dont think the live feed was necessarily against any NCAA rules. Sounds like its more just common accepted practice that you shouldn’t have that at your disposal while the opponent does not.

Kirby Smart’s renegotiated contract will pay him $13M/year…woo hoo. The college football sustainable business model rolls on…
It’s been a joke since around 2009. It just took the world a while to catch up and realize.
Angry, how did everything go, having your backdoor virginity taken by the gastro doc?
Super simple. I would do it in a heartbeat and not think twice.
Can only assume downvoter is upset the Gastro doc got to you first…
How do you know it was his virginity? Fair question. Childish but fair.
Know your fellow Beavers
Beavs pick up a walk on TE today.

Watch out, Natty.
The Yahoo sports reporter @rossdellenger has a boatload of new content on his twitter feed today about potential NCAA NIL lawsuit settlement figures and a new revenue share model being discussed by P conferences. It’s almost too much content to keep up with for 1 day.
Sounds like NCAA power conf teams are expecting to have to settle for around $30m each over 10 years to pay off the $2.7B settlement. And that’s just to cover lost NIL opportunities for past players over a 4-5 year span before NIL became legal.
The NCAA is dying rapidly. Bust the power vacuum is only going to make things worse.
So is the pac 12 on the hook as well? That was in the contract that other teams would be liable for this right?
Yes. Everyone is on the hook.
If done in the spirit of “we’re relevant, and you’re not,” it would be done in proportion to the revenues actually gained in past years.
But we all know those schools will demand a collective payment… for this kind of thing.
My guess for the baseball slump is that most of the roster is considering behind the scenes offers for transfer destinations and the season has been a formality for them just like so many other athletes in the other sports.
Guys like Turley, Kreig, Hainline, all of the pitchers who throw high 90s are getting calls and their focus is gone.
Bazanna is looking at the MLB draft and trying to improve his numbers but only adding pressure on himself.
Baseball could be different in that they’ll be independents next year. Dallas Baptist was successful going that route for a number of years.
Individual players for sure will be offered some money but if they leave, they are leaving because they think the Beavs won’t be competitive for the post season next year. Behind the scenes, Barnes needs to have a lot of next year’s schedule ready to show the players they’ll have a good shot.
I’ll also point out, other schools may offer a better scholarship situation vs NIL. Almost every guy is on a partial scholarship in baseball. If they get an offer to upgrade to a near full scholarship or go from walk on to scholarship, it’s going to be a tempting offer plus going to a more competitive conference.
Mike Riley back in the news today. Apparently he’ll be replacing Pat Chun on the College Football Playoff selection committee.
We’ve got a chance! Hip Hip!!
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2024/05/former-oregon-state-coach-mike-riley-set-to-join-college-football-playoff-selection-committee-report.html?outputType=amp
Geez, he’s probably in Depends these days….maybe appoint someone younger, sharper….
Riley’s one of those guys who you could have told me he was 65 years old when he was 40 and I would have believed you. Now that he’s 70, you could tell me he’s 65 and I’d still believe you.
He must shop at Forever 65
That’s one way to age gracefully.
I guess that’s good for OSU and WSU.
This crossed my news feed. When is the bullshit rumor mill going to stop? Everyone knows it’s about money and OSU and WSU don’t generate enough to satisfy the greed that has become college sports.
https://flywareagle.com/posts/rumor-oregon-state-wazzu-soon-receive-big-12-invite
For reference, UVA’s athletic department brought in twice as much much as OSU did, and they’re terrible at football.
I don’t think it would be a “shock” if both get invited to the Big 12. I think it remains the most likely short term outcome. The Big 12 will be the MWC within a decade either way though.
It’s the simplest solution, and it will benefit both parties.
We will get the perception of being relevant, with most of those schools fully respecting out true values. We will have a quantifiable revenue stream for the near future that would better support the infrastructure in place. We’d get stomped in hoops every year… or maybe be able to pay a buyout.
And Yormark gets his conference a TV network with the working knowledge to maximize its assets.
The Big 12 can also raid the MWC, without penalty. So SDSU and UNLV and maybe a couple other schools might be in play, even for lesser shares. I could see Yormark try and get some hoops schools like Zags and Wichita State, as well.
Personally I think it’s a fantasy. The big12 isn’t coming to save the day. Osu is going to be relegated to the second tier. All the scenarios being talked about (super league ect.) Just aren’t going to happen. The top money making teams are going to break off and form their own league in the next 2 or 3 years and everyone else is done. Get ready for 7pm games on Wednesday just so you can get on TV to make a few thousand bucks.
The Big 12 is the “second tier”
yup
Yeah that’s true, but I still don’t see an offer being extended to us. What the big12 cares about, we don’t have. Mostly a tv market and national brand big enough to draw in money.
The Portland market is a top 20 market.
And Seattle isn’t exactly tiny.
The rank is 23 to 25 depending on who you look at.
Okay, top 25. Still not a small market.
The Big 12 picking up 2-4 West coast teams makes lots of sense in the Super conference era.
I’m not even a fan of the idea but I think it is the most likely outcome.
Long term (and by long term I mean within a decade) it all collapses but I could definitely see why the Big 12 would be interested in some Pacific time zone schools), it’s currently ceding them to the B1G and ACC. They need the Pacific time zone to truly be a “coast to coast” conference.
A market might develop for a different type of football that’s more like old school ncaaf. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 80 or so schools that won’t matter just form their own thing. There’s a point where that would be more enjoyable to watch than a slick, overproduced product that they try to force on viewers. That will be “sick” football with lots of posts showing off outlier athletic ability on social media, but there’s going to be a market for less show and more spirit. I think spirit and amateurism are undervalued right now, but I’m not convinced it’s permanent. I watch this Wiffle Ball league on YT religiously, and what makes it so good is it has the amateur spirit of sports. It’s just guys everyone would know playing as hard as they can. There’s something to that, and it’s not priced correctly in the market right now. As they force the opposite on us, there’s going to be a revolt against that at some point.
I think this is going to be one of the most interesting things to watch. How the market reacts to this over the next 5 years.
It’s why I really want the Superleague to happen. All that bluster is just that–bluster.
They can break away from the NCAA, and the rest of us can just be the NCAA, once again.
But it has to be done with all SAs forming a union and bargaining for things of value, like scholarships, health care, vacations, etc. In exchange, they sign multi-year contracts, just like the coaches. These will come with standard language limiting transfers, and defining eligibility within the new NCAA and buyouts for anything outside it, barring them entering a professional draft or joining a pro league, when their eligibility for that sport simply expires.
If they want to develop for a couple years and bolt for the competition, we at least receive compensation.
And the beauty of it is we can just plug along gathering all the NCAA prizes and continuing its legacy.
The Superleague fellers all whine and whine about relevance, or subsidizing other schools’ teams. Apparently it’s them against the world, if you listen to them. They bitch about the NCAA being a sinking ship, but they won’t get on the lifeboat, like the rest of us want them to do, so we can push them away from said ship.
I can’t tell if it’s because they’re self aware about their true realities, or if they’re so dysfunctional that they’re simply codependent.
Saw Linfield has hired Scott Brosius as their athletic director.
Always liked Scott, good to see a local guy staying local
Is he a pitching coach?
Is our new pitch to recruits: “Come play for Oregon State – at least it’s not Toledo!”?
Toledo had their cornerback drafted at #22 in the first round, ironically.
Try “At least OSU isn’t Akron.”
“Toledo had their cornerback drafted at #22 in the first round, ironically.
That’s because Toledo’s pitch is, “Come play for Toledo – at least it’s not Oregon State!”
great story abt him on Eagles website.
Fuaga? Was #14. OSU and Akron, at least it’s not WSU.
Beavs got the MAC defensive player of the year?? That’s actually somewhat exciting because Tinkle can actually do things with good defensive players. Maybe he finally realized that the only way he wins is if he has guys committed defensively. Also, he only has one year of eligibility, so we don’t have to worry about him transferring out after next year, haha.
You stumbled onto Tinkles new strategy. Only take transfers with 1 year of eligibility so he is always in rebuilding process and it takes the pressure off of development. He knows he only has 1 year to wreck a guys fundamentals so it may go better than a 4 year guy who has his entire skill set degrade under Tinkle over the course of a career.
Every year we’re just 1 year away from the next full scale rebuild
To be fair, I don’t think he wrecks fundamentals. Just runs a terrible, outdated offense that doesn’t work in this day and age and has a defensive philosophy that is hard to get modern players to buy into.
This has been his strategy since day 1. Longest tenured guys were the coaches’ kids. Otherwise, his rosters have been a revolving door. So many 1 year loaners. It sure seems to work on a lot of people though…every year there’s a croud of people saying he just needs time to get this new core group together.
Sadly, I don’t see this new Beavs squad being very good or even competitive even in the WCC. 1 returning starter and scholarship player. All the new guys will have to learn Wayne’s “system” and they’ll be expected to start or play massive minutes. Hard to build any chemistry with that many new bodies. The top 200 HS recruit had only 1 Power conf offer and that was the Beavs so something seems off there. The xfers are mostly coming from very low division teams where even the WCC will be a step up in competition. It’s going to be a rough 3 years until a new coach comes in.
Just watched his highlights. Very smooth, hustles, fights for rebounds, good at cutting away from ball. Good midrange and 3 point shot. Tough going to the basket. Only real downside I saw is he lacks in athleticism, but I will take the hustle and defense over that any day.
The BIG12 stuff seems to have some legs. 2 different sources (1 I have faith in) are saying discussions are happening as we speak. They will help with 2025 FB schedule and then join 2026. Fox picking up the P4 home games for next year came out of left field.
Hoping Lucy does not pull the football away again. I am guessing nothing would be officially announced until August.
Why would this happen? Or, why wouldn’t the Big 12 just have taken the Beavs this past cycle? What changed?
We can’t leave until after August 2nd, or we don’t bring any leverage with us. We have a lot to bring, and conferences have more pull than they think, depending on how they play the next couple years.
BIG12 have been waiting on ACC fallout to see what they can pick up. Clemson just won a court hearing where they get to see the ACC/ESPN TV contract. This will speed up the ACC defections. Rumor is we are the ACC backfill options when they lose teams. If BIG12/Fox want our games they will need to get in front of ACC. Fox buying our P4 games next season is a big tell. They see value is Wazzu/OSU.
My analogy is we are the ugly girl at the bar at 10PM. Nobody wanted us. At 2AM we are smoking hot. It’s 145AM for the ACC.
The acc is the absolute worse place to land. Especially if they lose the big schools. Might as well do the pac2/MW merger at that point. The ACCs tv deal will be void and there’s no way espn pays out for who’s ever left over.
If it’s just for football I’d feel better about it. The Big 12 is the obvious culture fit.
What I don’t want is the Olympic sports traveling to the east coast.
Only is fsu Miami and clemson stay is it maybe worth it.
Which source do you have faith in? And why?
Sorry I can’t say. It’s not first hand but the source talks to first hand sources.
Double hearsay?
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Here is a thought, if Dorman switched to coach the men’s basketball program and Tinkle switched to be pitching coach, would either really get any worse or would we see some improvement from either/both groups?
That’s why I’m saying give some graduate assistant tinkles job. It wouldn’t cost anything and it can’t get any worse.
Chatterton to Oklahoma official.
So, Chatterton ends up with Beers and Mark Campbell gets Donovyn Hunter.
Both coaches part of the Rueck tree?
What a fucking coincidence, what are the odds? Certainly nothing shady here. Fuck that guy
lol… Jonas buying into the Bob Huggins/Frank Martin style of recruiting… namely just being the tool
Goodman will have to to step up to the lead assistant. Wonder if there’s a former Beav out there who wants to coach and be the third assistant. Good opportunity.
Wouldn’t Hunter step up first?
Ruth was playing for Barca, last I saw. Maybe she’s tired of Spain?
Syd? Is she still playing?
Beavs supposedly land the xfer DLine Josh Griffis. He was on a visit this week and perhaps makes sense on why MMD hit the portal.
MMD was another one that was vocal about the Bray hire. Big loss from a talent standpoint.
Is it or was he just overrated out of high school? He probably didn’t crack the two deep again and decided to transfer. Had big hopes when he signed but he just hasn’t been able to get on the field. Hopefully can replace him with a two deep player.
Could definitely be the case. It’s also a possibility he doesn’t fit the mold as he was part of the last Tibesar class. Just interesting that they are both edge guys and MMD announces a day or so before this guy makes his visit so perhaps it really was to make room for someone else.
It will be interesting to watch considering he was largely overlooked opposed to MMD.
Who is MMD?
McDowell returns as DH and gets an infield single in the t1.
And, did anyone else hear Parker refer to “two proud Big 12 teams”?
Guerra batting .258 now. He’s been in a terrible slump. Think he needs to sit for a bit…a break might help get him right. 7 strikeouts tonight for the Beavs who lead 2-0 in the T4.
Beavs definitely struggling at the plate in conf play. Team batting avg of .267 which is good for 6th place. Unfortunate to be struggling on both sides of the ball during conf play when it’s a down year for the P12.
Geez, it’s up to 9 strikeouts now. They have to put the ball in play, but it seems like they are a three-outcome team now. Frustrating to watch. Glad May has been strong again.
Good move bringing in Mundt there.
And Trosky for Guerra
Yup, good D by Trosky, 3 nice assists and Krieg was actually able to handle ’em.
Now, do ya leave him in for the ninth?……I would, but Dorman disagrees.
What would Tinkle do?
That’s easy. Jump up and down and scream “Go Hard”.
This game went into the shitter real fast
and out of the shitter
That was a heart-stopper.
A wins a win and they pulled it off. The bats really need to wake up. Seems like they swing at a lot of bad pitches.
A lot of hard it balls, too bad they were right at ppl. At least they were swinging
RIP Aaron Thomas, and condolences to Robb and the family.
Daschel, when asked about players moving on from WBB says some will thrive, some will do OK, and some will wish they had stayed.
Not exactly Nostradamus.
However, I found this interesting:
Is Rueck the best women’s coach in America? That’s your call. But he’s probably among the top 12.
You hope that those giving advice to the departing players offered the idea that Rueck and his staff emphasized the player’s strengths, put them in positions to succeed, and often covered up their weaknesses.
By way of example he says:
A player like Raegan Beers, for example, won’t find many coaches who want to pound the ball into the post like Rueck. And that inside presence opened three-point shooting opportunities for behind-the-arc specialists.
If Daschel wants to validate his article, he could plan to interview them all in 2-3 years and get the feedback.
Or he could begin asking players who have departed in other years if it was a beneficial decision. Sometimes it is homesickness and sometimes it is money and sometimes it is simply youthful confidence that the grass is greener. But I’d guess Rueck is a top 5 coach for understanding his roster and coaching to his roster.
He will show how good he is by the end of next year when he has another team ready for a run.
Not cool that when his assistants leave they inevitably poach a player from the roster though.
Beaver Lock signal from Bray.
Who?
Trent Bray… our head football coach
…and don’t call me Shirley.
lol
Do u know if that was the script and sequence? I read that
RB was very top of UConn’s list and they feel “snubbed”. I wonder if she (family) said she’d go to Oklahoma if they cd get Chatt9ertn there.
So now NIL and assistant coaches are a package deal?
I thought Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams was sketchy but now we have schools hiring away assistants to land recruits.
Not much different than Oregon hiring high school coaches of high school recruits in order to land the recruit.
AKA broken system
Eddie Gran and Tosh Lupoi didn’t become coordinators because of their coaching acumen.
They just needed a raise and new title to justify the “more” any team was going to pay them at their next stop. KHJ was on the same track.
The technical word for the assistants who do this is tools. But they don’t care, because they’re laughing all the way to the bank.
Josh Griffis makes it official.
https://x.com/joshgriffis_/status/1786865510468247847
I like his talent but concerned about why he committed and de-committed and transferred around so much in just a few years.
Kinda reminds me of Dylan Wynn, who I didn’t know was still active in the CFL.
https://www.cfl.ca/2024/02/14/dylan-wynn-touches-down-in-montreal/
Not sure who will care in 2-3 years unless they have become super stars. If they have graduated they will be either 1) in the wnba – (full disclosure: I personally have no interest in it and no information re: # of followers, etc.) 2. namelessly playing out-of-country.
Rueck coaching tree: Katy Baker is head coach at Pepperdine. Lovely views.
I don’t want to give this board my second “I told you so” regarding massive early season expectations in an OSU sport this school year, buttttttttt…..
This should be a pretty easy series sweep for a so-called top ten team, but here we are again, struggling with the 11th ranked team in the PAC-12.
I’m predicting this team is unfortunately going to be 2 and out in the postseason.
lol… low hanging fruit
Grow up, junior.
Doorman trying his best to get fired.
Rich “Gas Cans” Dorman
Beaver pitching SUCKS!!!
Dorman deserves some blame but what about the hitting coach the fielding coach and Mitch. This team is getting worse in every aspect of the game. We have went from a top 10 team to a team that really doesn’t belong in the top 25.
The lack of focus, both on D and on the basepaths seems to lie at the feet of Miiiiiittttcch!
Ya they’ve been struggling all around these last couple of weeks and just can’t seem to put it all together. Need to be scoring more than just a couple of runs a game.
WOW!! 2 on nobody out and 2 experienced players watch strikes go right down the middle and Guerra who hasn’t got a hit in 2 weeks and should be sitting grounds out.
Batting has been atrocious. Too many strikeouts and poor plate discipline.
WOW!! 2 on nobody out and 2 experienced players watch strikes go right down the middle and Guerra who hasn’t got a hit in 2 weeks and should be sitting grounds out weakly to 1st.
We’re in the epilogue of the season now
Huh. If OSU didn’t give up 4 runs with 2 outs in the 8th, their offensive rally in the 9th would’ve meant something.
It was somewhat humorous.
7 runs in the 9th isn’t every day.
But this line-up is capable, especially when Caraway comes back.
Still, we apparently have to keep the other team from scoring.
I’ve watched city league softball teams with more focus on defense and pitching than this crew. They are only thinking homeruns. No one considers a single as a worthy endeavor.
How is Guerra still playing? Mitch need to sit Guerra for the next 2 games at least just to give him a decompress opportunity. He has to know he is 0-50 in the last several games.
I’ll agree with 94 Beav above, Gas Can Dorman is more appropriate because he decides which gas can to bring in to put the game out of reach. So bad.
This team is so badly coached from top to bottom. Miiiitttch shouldn’t even be coaching little league team and Gipson couldn’t even be waterboy.
Don’t blame the pitchers when 2nd string catcher can’t get strikes.
There live affair with homeruns comes from coaches. They only look at launch angle and exit velocity to write the lineup. It’s going to ruin OSU baseball at a time when they needed to win to get the school going in right direction with this conference BS.
lol… the broad brush is funny
There are obvious flaws, but there is still some top notch coaching. There are plenty of reasons for distractions in this day and age. Just look at what happened with the artist formerly known as Niner and the Civil War.
I have to admit, I’m having a hard time watching games. I turned last night’s game off. Poor defense, sloppy baserunning, too many strikeouts on offense, and the inconsistent pitching after May and sometimes Kmatz make for an unwatchable product as it stands.
It’s more fun watching my A’s surprise teams at this juncture. I’m trying to get my money’s worth with Sling TV and the P-12 network, but how the Beavs are playing is causing me to think about canceling a couple of months earlier than I was planning.
Why is Guerra in the line up? He needs to sit. He looks totally over matched even by these wsu pitchers.
2nd home run by Baz was a monster..wow
Beavs lead 7-5. Segura went 4 innings and gave up 4 runs. Keljo on in relief and has given up a solo homer with a couple strike outs. Sure would be nice if the only lefty we have could take a step forward and become that reliable bullpen guy. Being a lefty with heat, you’d hope that he would’ve been a weekend starter for us but I don’t see that happening at this point.
Well can the bullpen hold on? Offense has left 10 on thru 6 innings but we are up 7-5 after 6.
We do only have 4 k’s so far which is a big improvement.
Guerra has left 9 runners on himself. I think he needs a rest.
Also I think we should enjoy Bazanna, 2 more dingers today. One of the all time great Beavs.
Bazzana has 3 dingers now. Incredible
Make that 3 homers for Bazanna. WOW
3rd hr for Baz…damn
The win? ESPN never shows their scores in the ticker
Yep, 10-6. Check D-1 baseball. ESPN is awful for college baseball.
Will do! Noticed ESPN shows all the other ranked teams but not the Beavs on their scorebox.
Did Bazzana have any dingers today?
Nope, just 3 round-trippers…
From USA Today “Ranking college baseball teams in order of their odds to win College World Series in 2024″
The SEC dominates the top of the latest USA TODAY Coaches’ Poll for college baseball. Texas A&M, Arkansas and Tennessee make up the top three spots, respectively, in the latest rankings. None of the three teams have lost more than nine games this season.
…
5. Oregon State (+1400)
Oregon State is among teams with the best overall records (34-12) in college baseball but has had some bumps in conference play. Their 13-9 record in Pac-12 games has them in fourth place in the conference. Still, the Beavers have the 10th-best pitching staff in D-I college baseball by ERA (3.97 as of May 2) and the help of possible No. 1 pick in the MLB draft, Travis Bazzana (.414/.580/.930, 21 HR). Closer Bridger Holmes, who boasts a 1.46 ERA and 11 saves in 19 appearances (24 and two-thirds innings), is another standout for Oregon State.”
OSU was #7 in Coaches’ Poll, AZ #24.
Rest for Guerra is a good idea.
RPI after the weekend
Beavs 15
Arizona 33
Oregon 48
Utah 55
Cal 58
No one else really has a shot at this point
Gonzaga 140
UCLA 197
Cannot lose any of these next 4 of they want to host
Go Beavs and tip of the cap to Travis Bazzana
RPI is garbage, Auburn is 22-24, 4-20 in SEC, but ranked 49 in the RPI, but it is what they use so you have to play the game.
Lily Hansford announced Sunday that she’s headed to Iowa State…..Hansford moves closer to home as she grew up in Wisconsin.
Wow. Guerra might be in one of the all-time worst slumps. He’s 0-4 today with 3 strike outs. Some of the appearances have been pretty bad too. He might be approaching 40 at bats without a hit? Something to that extent. Bazzana, Kasper, Turley and Weber all have home runs today. 9-3 Beavs in the bottom of the 5th
Guerra is now 0-5 and has 4 of the 7 strikeouts. Feel so bad for the guy. He’s clearly lost it and perhaps sitting for a few games would help him out. Beavs have poured it on today so far…12-4 in the top of the 7th.
Borderline cruel if Guerra continues to play. It would be merciful to give him an entire series off just to reset his mind and start fresh. He has to be about as mentally messed up as a guy can be stepping into the box.
Gipson was bragging on Guerra pregame, expecting him to come out of the slump today….not so fast my friend. Yikes, give him a few days off.
and now he has an error at first and lets a run score. 14-6 Beavs
13-6 Beavs. my bad
Unfortunately they feel more necessary to sit Krieg then Guerra.
Gipson bragging on Guerra just shows again how dumb Gipson.
Late scratch for game was Smith as underweather yesterday and today they felt they needed him yesterday and giving him break today.
Getting Guerra reps at first as Caraway due back soon, sad part is Krieg better defense and currently better bat. They feel they gotta give Guerra every chance under the sun as he was originally projected top 150 draft this year and krieg could be back next year if he doesn’t hit portal.
Guerra is playing for the wrong reasons then, and being put in the lineup for the wrong reasons if Mitch is worried about a guys draft stock or his possible transfer. The best guy should play no matter the considerations for his draft status or his transfer status.
Not a good look. In the process of worrying about Guerra’s draft status, they are actually burying the poor guy, and he will drop down anyway.
Including today, Guerra is 39 abs without a hit, since game 1 of the Cal series.
OMG. Beavs relief pitching has now allowed 8? runs in the 7th inning. It’s now 13-12 Beavs. 0 outs. what the hell. this is laughable
Gas Can Dorman at it again. The bullpen has given up 8 runs in the 7th still no outs. Crazy how bad this bullpen is. 13-12 Beavs just got caught again by the bullpen implosion.
Happy to note that Gonzaga’s bullpen is matching OSU pitch for pitch. Beavs back up by 6 after a Turley and Weber each hit 2 run homeruns in the 8th. 18-12 good guys.
well, Mitch heard us. Guerra is sitting now. Kreig is in at 1st.
Another Bazz bomb. lol. that’s 2 today. 3 yesterday
Guerra is 0-39 ! It would be hard to go 0-39 wearing a blindfold at the plate.
He has 2 rbi, 16 strikeouts, 6 walks, 1 sac fly and 2 gdp over that stretch. Pretty brutal when 2 walks and the sac fly were in the second game of the Cal series, 1st game of his hitless streak. It is now sitting at 11 games. Batting average has gone from .297 down to .235 in 11 games.
Mitch isn’t helping him at this point by continuing to put him out there. At least give him a game or two to reset mentally. I feel bad for the guy at this point, and he has great potential once it clicks again.
Never mess with a streak…
well past time to find a slump buster
Someone asked if the ncaa would make changes to baseball not too long ago. Looks like it might be more scholarships.
https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/reports-ncaa-considering-lifting-scholarship-limit-as-part-of-lawsuit-settlement-talks/
So the wealthy SEC schools will sign all the talent and leave table scraps for the rest
Yeah, that’s the problem right there. While it’s definitely time for baseball to get more paid assistants and scholarship spots, this seems like it’ll hurt most schools outside the SEC. Be a back-up at OSU and not on scholarship, or be a back-up at LSU and be on scholarship…especially not being in a major conference.
Who wants to ride the pine if everyone gets scholarships? Guys are playing baseball in college to get to the next level not be a 4 year backup. And with the portal they can hop around as much as they want to find a starting gig.
And aren’t baseball scholarships only partials? Maybe they mean full rides instead.
Anyone hearing any more about movement to the (Big however many) conference?
Don’t expect anything but rumors until August 1st at the earliest.
Thanks, Z
Maybe this was already well known, but I saw an article about the Corvallis Knights roster for the upcoming summer league season, and it mentioned that LHP Ethan Kleinschmit is an OSU commit.
Heard he hasn’t hit the pre-requisite number of walks this year and may not qualify for Dorman’s system.
Yeah, his 95K/11BB ratio is a little unorthodox for an OSU pitcher. Tutelage under Dorman should fix him right up, though.
4 things in life are certain:
Death
Taxes
Dorman pitchers have zero control but high velocity
Tinkle can’t find an offense but destroys fundamentals by Christmas
He had verbally committed in October 2023. Being a left-handed pitcher under Dorman is unicorn status.
Ah, I didn’t know he committed back in October. I must’ve been too busy being blissfully unaware that Jonathan Smith was about to kneecap the football program.
Bazzana moves into second nationally with 26 bombs. A Georgia sophomore has hit 33 dingers! Wowzers.
Saw damnation collective has a new app called Lockverse theyve teamed up with to provide bonus content for monthly donors.
I’m curious how many suckers…..I mean donors….are contributing monthly to the NIL? Minimum is $10 per month.
Suckers? Lmao ur a hater for that.. magine tryna support your favorite college athletics program???
Anyone donating to a collective is a sucker.
It’s professional sports at this point.
If you were donating $10/$50/$100 per month to the Portland Trailblazers or Seattle Seahawks each month, I’d call you a sucker for that too.
How is this different, other than management not having to cover the payroll, while still benefitting from the profits? Now that I say that out loud, it’s worse than professional sports.
I agree with this take. There’s zero return on the dollars. Pay for an athlete to stay one or two years?
Right now, OSU is a feeder school to the rich schools. There’s no stopping that in the current environment. Athletes will use OSU as a stepping stone to greener pastures.
Want to help your school? Donate to the athletic dept directly. Fund scholarships since they are not attached to specific athletes.
Exactly right, Bill. I want OSU to fund as many varsity sports as possible. Men’s track and cross country should be next but that can’t happen if we’re donating to NIL.
As Momma Boucher would say, NIL is the Devil!
I saw that Tinkle added an assistant coach from the MW champions Utah State. That’s good news maybe he can take over when Tinkle is fired next year.
“We’re going to be tougher, more mature, we’ll have more talent across the board,” Tinkle said. “When we’ve had all the ingredients, we’ve proven that we’ve done really good things here … we have the pieces to not just be competitive, but win.”
That’s why the talent that left has landed at Texas, UCLA…cause it’s not on par with the talent he’s brought in this year from Somewhere Community College and Something, Something Div II. Classic WT. Can’t wait for Jan when he’s got 6 wins and he moves on to the “we’ve got the right pieces to build around, just need to have more time to gel and come together as a unit”. Then as the regular season wraps up and he’s got 10 or 11 wins, it’ll be “we have a core nucleus but several guys weren’t completely bought in and we will work to get the right guys here”. It’s a broken record. Give the guy props though…he’s developed a nice script of talking points, doesn’t have to deviate from them, and yet somehow people gobble that up every year.
“Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining”
Some of us aren’t buying what you’re selling anymore Stinks
I actually think Tinkle will do better with upperclassmen committed on the defensive end. He doesn’t do well with offensive talent his best years have come with tough guards and defensive specialists. I am not a fan of Tinkle. But honestly I think a roster of nobodies that play good defense will do better than having great offensive players. I would not be surprised if they do better next season. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they stink. Just saying…
“I would not be surprised if they do better next season. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they stink”
Bold statement there.
The only reason they’d be better next year would solely be due to the lower half competition in the WCC. There’s zero chance that these new guys are better than Pope or Tyler B.
Who gobbles it up? Finances dictate his continued employment.
There’s a lot people from media to socials, etc that hold the water for WT.
The lawsuit is moving forward and the NCAA/major conferences are beginning to negotiate a way out of the mess by proposing that all major colleges carry an annual salary budget of $20 mil per school to pay athletes across all sports.
And in the meantime, SEC/Big10 are attempting to pull all of the major brand name schools into their sphere of conference competition. The irony of this parallel universe would be that at the very time athletes have the most to gain, the schools will actually have the most to lose. If the lawsuits continue to fall on the side of the athletes, then the response of a lot of schools will be a fairly reasonable one, begin dropping sports to avoid the high cost of paying athletes. I can imagine that the D1 model of full ride scholarship will be an extinct dinosaur in very short order as an immediate response to the ruling that every D1 school must allocate $20 mil of the athletic budget to athletes. This will be an absurd sequence of unintended consequences which will ultimately kill the golden goose that provides for all of the various sports, coaches, administrators, conferences, sports agents, recruiting sites, club sports and organizations that feed into the university systems.
College athletics has only had tremors to this point, but once every school is on the hook for $20 mil, it will be the death knell for a lot of athletic programs, and sports opportunities for athletes will no longer what we have known.
I kind of expect that some schools will begin approaching the whole amateur sports with a bit more sanity and without scholarships like all of NAIA etc. It will be an extracurricular for the student, not a job for the athlete who attends a school for 6 months before transferring or going pro.
Imagine if the SEC/ESPN and BIG10/FOX got their way and they gathered the 30 big name schools between their 2 conferences in order to depart but were also negotiating such a large yearly sum as a sort of salary cap within their conferences and by accepting such a number, they knew that it would obliterate all of the other athletic departments that may try to compete with their conference goals. I’m almost convinced that the timing of these 2 elements isn’t exactly a coincidence, nor is the impending implosion of the ACC. Realistically, the only schools left for these conferences to pick off are Notre Dame, Clemson, Florida St and maybe North Carolina or Miami. Beyond these, all other schools land in the mid range programs no different than most of the Big12 or PAC2.
All MWC, MAC, AAC, WAC, Sun Belt schools would be immediately eliminated form the picture if they were required to have a budget 5-6 x the annual athletic budget in order to pay athletes.
I think ESPN is behind the scenes playing the whole thing for timing and waiting to implode the ACC on their preferred timetable, and also trying to play king-maker over all of college football for their own bottom line. ESPN is killing sports, and needs to be stopped. I wish ESPN and FOX were both forced to relinquish their contractual obligations to specific leagues which creates its own programming biases over time. ESPN used to report on sports 30-40 years ago but somewhere along the way they decided to predetermine sports as a part of their bottom line and lining their own pockets in the process.
The eventual fallout of all of this will be a minimizing of the spots on rosters across the country in all sports, not just football. Every college athletic department will be affected and some will dump enough money to stay in the game, football at least, but it is very predictable that a lot of schools will just begin shutting down several sports, or even the entire athletic department.
For they have sown to the wind, and now they will reap the whirlwind.
Being in the Puget Sound region in WA, there is a general news blackout on the ‘other’colleges south of the border (Columbia River), unless it is detrimental to those schools and beneficial to the Huskies. However, I do get to listen to John Wilner once a week and his take on the PAC2. This possible $20 million yearly payment right out of the chute to settle the lawsuit is something these BIG10 defectors didn’t anticipate or plan for and being they are on a ‘half-share’ for revenue for the first several years in their new league, they are already in a defecit position concerning their Athletic budget. The other factor is how much more can the schools squeeze out of their fans; even the most rabid fan must be looking at season ticket prices, NIL participation, staduim rebuilding efforts and wondering if the entertainment factor is worth it.
Bottom line is that Wilner suspects that by the early 2030’s, the PAC will be back in some form. I guess we will have to wait and see….
Remind me why are we playing Oregon in September?
Game’s going to be over midway through the second quarter.
Because FOX will pay us bodybag money for the broadcasting rights. It’s the rare opportunity to have a bodybag home game.
“Tradition”
It may become an extra home game for Oregon…
That is the one game I definitely will not watch, 100% chance I don’t watch.
And I am so embarrassed that OSU scheduled it that it makes me not really care about what happens in the other 11 games either.
I think it’s going to be better than the later riley years, or during drunk gary era, every game was a body bag game.
Well, GA actually beat the Quacks as amazingly as it seems.
once
I highly doubt we put them away that early.
You mean that late?
This place used to complain about the mediocre loser mentality during the Riley years.
Archives suggest the complaints regarding blowouts are more important
I think agreeing to play Oregon in September is a “mediocre loser mentality”
“Little sisters of the poor” vibe, too
Our younger and smaller sister school is no longer a sibling. A sibling doesn’t do what they did.
It’s just an OOC game.
I believe the record against this OOC opponent is something like 4-7-3.
Further evidence that we shouldn’t play them
Once we don’t need filler material left by a gap created by them, sure.
But right now, they’re equal to Purdue and Cal.
A way too early top 25: #4 UO, #12 Utah, #20 AZ, and # 22 USC.

Every other week from 9/21 to 11/2 SC has to take at least a 2.5 hour flight. They won’t lose fewer than 5 games.
And UO has 7(?) home games plus a short trip to Reser….i recall they have Ohio State at home.
Tin foil hat prediction :
This is the year ESPN attempts to present Nike with a national championship by way of the Big10. It is likely the random price to destroy the PAC12. UW got to the championship last year and Nike gets there next year.
ransom*
So we’re a women’s golf school now! Beav women make the cut, headed to the national championship. Congrats to them.
Somebody has to pick up the slack, might as well be them.
Enjoy it while you can, they likely all transfer after the post-season, right? We were a women’s golf school…

32 team conference here we come.
Two ways to compete against a monopoly/dupoly:
1. Have the government break them up, according to the laws of the United States
2. Create your own trust–strength in numbers
#3 NFL can draft high schoolers directly out of high school and give them futures contracts.
Few HS kids are physically ready for NFL….former Vikes RB Adrian Peterson was considered by some to have been a rare exception…
Ahh, should gave kept reading…ha!
Sorry!
Maybe Big12 just invites all leftover schools from ACC, PAC, MWC, MAC, AAC, Big East into a nationwide conference with the relegation model. It is only a matter of time until schools like Northwestern, Indiana, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Ole Miss all get booted from their own conferences because they aren’t the proper brands and just clutter up the “desired” matchups.
Big12 will be a 72 team conference within a few years.
There are rumors of SEC wanting Kansas. Might make sense if they’re shooting for UNC, NCST, etc to add another basketball powerhouse to the lineup. It’s all a hot mess though and I could see that despite all the multitude of madness scenarios that are out there, the most likely one is probably something with the mountain west.
Agree, anything that sounds like Big12 to the rescue feels like a lot of hopium and way too many details with too many schools to become reality. As Jack states above, the only way to combat the P2 course of things is to band all other conferences into a huge national footprint with internal scheduling among the regions etc and shutting out the SEC/BIG as a contrast of product, and a return to a more amateur athletics model, even if there is some element of NIL.
Yormark would have to be in talks with multiple conferences and about 50 schools behind the scenes as a grand master wizard to accomplish anything remotely close to a bulwark against SEC/BIG momentum. Yormark has stated his intention of a conference featuring basketball powers with competitive football to attract new revenue form media deals.
He is Don Quixote in some respects because he will always be playing catch-up as all other conferences implode under the death star of ESPN until there are none left.
One thing beavs and Cougs have going for them is ownership of pac12 network, and it’s Infrastructure. Big12 doesn’t have one, and now has to broadcast a lot more teams. My guess is a sharing agreement of it now for invite leverage
But we can’t announce any further actions by the network until August. Until then, it’s in a holding pattern.
It was always suspected Utah and the Arizona schools would need production help for any regional telecasts. If the product works, it could easily scale.
Heading to Goss tonite, first game this year, bought these tickets 6 weeks ago never could have predicted the perfect weather but I’ll take it.
Can’t wait to see studentbeaver’s newest sign
#GoBeavs
Don’t know why you’re still so hung up on the sign. I have provided ample proof in previous posts showing pictures of my student tickets and my view from the student section
I can provide the same evidence going through nephews’ and nieces’ and their friends’ obsessions with sharing everything online.
try again
For the seat pictures maybe. I’ve previously posted a picture of the student ticket portal with my account logged in. Not exactly something people would find interesting to post elsewhere.
Regardless, I’ve never done anything but show support for OSU, and no other teams on here, albeit with some hard truths sprinkled in.
Your “hard truths” are mumble-speak designed to “right” when selected parts of your original duality of ideas are copied and pasted, and you can say “i told you so.”
That’s your troll game.
Been on the interwebs for 40 years, and you are not the first I’ve seen do this.
Glad we got swept by the Ducks, though. They were obviously going to do that to us on the road, person who never does anything but support OSU, since they had never done it to anyone all year long at home, let alone on the road.
I should know to trust that post a singular photo? Seems sensible. Have any pics of your imaginary girlfriend?
Leat I remind you, YOU posted the terms, you said you would hold up a sign. I guess I should know better that to trust a troll to stay true to his word.
Anyhoo. So a photo gleaned from the interwebs. I gotcha bro Sorry to be so suspicious.
Lotta talk in Beaver Nation about whether or not we’ll be hosting or even a national seed.
All I can say is that if there’s any chance we are a national seed team, the minimum expectation for this series should be a relatively easy sweep. UCLA is NOT a good team.
A national seed is probably out of the question unless the Beavs finish the season 5-1 and win the conference tournament.
Great job Beavs on the sweep! Right?!
what do u think about the football team i get a preseason mag in 3 weeks they have UO i think 4th which is a littie high i looked at your sch and outside of nike and boise u shouild go 10-2 Purdue if not the worse big ten the next worse even at 10-2 i could see u guys cheated out of a playoff shot by A a 12-0 G5 Champ or B a 3-loss SEC BIGTEN team
8 wins in the regular season seems reasonable, even if the passing game doesn’t progress significantly.
The defensive unit is disciplined and tackles well in space which makes a huge difference.
Good win for Beavs 10 zip, defense is playing with confidence
Now can they build off of this and can pitching come through?
Check that 11-0
Nice win….
Not to rain on the parade but we beat a high school team
Well it was a friday night guy for UCLA. Usually a good matchup, maybe this year they are down, but we still needed the win and got it.
But didn’t lose to a high school team
Useless trivia…..the Beavs lost to Salem High School in the very first game played at Goss Stadium, I think 1907 was the year.
Too Late Rich doesn’t sound as good as Too Late Nate but the principle is still the same over and over…Beavs already down 6-1 in the top 3rd after Kmatz gives up a grand slam, errors by Trosky, Hainline, passed ball by Weber, a couple of walks and it all falls apart on Kmatz in 9 batters. Goodness this team isn’t very mentally tough at times. They just seem to fold when things go badly. Maybe they are putting a lot of pressure on themselves but it seems like a loss of focus too.
6-1 UCLA Mid 3rd
Top of the inning was the typical ugly showing we’ve seen this season; multiple walks, errors, a grand-slam, and a run scores on a wild-pitch, Kmatz pulled.
and then Kasper and Trosky both hit 2 run HRs and it’s 8-6 in the 4th.
Back up from a home run with a runner at third by Weber.
For fucks sake! He beaned him!
Winners!
Beavs use the Uno reverse card and win it off of a bean ball!
Beavs 12 vs UCLA 11……..series won.
Macias a 9 pitch bb to force in the winning run.
Some stats: Beavs/Bruins Hits 14/18, e’s 4/2, bb’s allowed 4/6,
HBP 2/2, wp’s thrown 2/0
My formats not too good, but the message is pretty clear…..Beavs could have easily dropped this one, sometimes that’s the way it bounces.
Draw 4 bitches. B1G baseball gonna be fire with all those frequent flyer miles
I wonder how many west coast guys from UCLA, USC, Stanford and Cal who will consider transferring to OSU and staying in competitive environments and a lot less travel.
Playing Big10 baseball is like playing WCC basketball right? It seems that their baseball programs should face the same fate as our basketball programs.
Beavs need to show they have a very competitive schedule next year if that were to happen. Like right now
And that means Barnes will wait until August or September to release that schedule?
Transfer portal runs from June 3rd to July 2nd
Saw our guy Nemec saying a big in-state commitment was likely, and very soon. If true, my guess would be the TE Baron Naone who had decommitted when the coaching change first happened. He was due for another visit this week I think, or at least sometime soon. Although, i think we were in the running for a top athlete as well?
It’s not Naone.

Micah with GS
I missed the ending; did Canham and Savage get together and call off the remainder of the game, or was a run-rule in place pregame?
Got together according to the P-12 network guys. What the hell happened to the UCLA program???
Didn’t you hear? They are now another terrible Big10 baseball program. And the weather in the Midwest isn’t conducive for elite baseball programs like it is in the south.
Yes. The 10 run rule was applied. Beavs were up 15-1.
I don’t think the 10 run rule applies to p12 play. The coaches must have agreed to call it.
They are allowed to set a run rule for the last game of the series, because of travel. If one team is just going to spend another hour playing batting practice, planes don’t wait for them.
Kendall rogers
Ugly weekend for a good ECU club. This most certainly will knock ECU out of a Top 8 for now, but still in shape to host. Less margin for error moving forward, tho.
Also duke lost series
I guess next weekend baseball series at AZ will be for Pac-12 title.
Correct. Depending on the outcome of the Utah/Arizona game (Utah currently leads 2-0) the Beavs will need to either sweep Arizona or just win the series to be the regular season champion.
Also would need Utah to drop one at USC should they win this evening. They are mathematically still alive at the moment.
good luck in baseball
Sure would be nice if we hadn’t gotten swept by mediocre Cal and USC teams. Will now need a sweep of UA to win the final PAC-12 championship. Looking like it will now be three years in a row that we’ve come in second place in the PAC-12 for baseball. Frustrating.
We already know where you are coming from. Your only goal here is to bring down the beavers. You say you want to have a “critical look” but you’re not a fan, just a troll. I am just shocked by how long you have kept this up for.
What is your team ranked? Ah that’s right, they are worse than the beavers.
I’m seeing here that todays game was called, but there is nothing in the OLine?? I was looking for it all afternoon…I guess we won?

You know it’s garbage when 4 of the top 5 are SEC teams. I’m tired of SEC gaming every sport with their nonsense schedules and propaganda. Those “powerhouse”schools all play about 40 games at home. OSU has maybe 30 home games/year.
Hopefully OSU bats all stay hot for about 6 weeks longer and they can mash their way through to Omaha and another championship.
ranked #6 and not guaranteed hosting…wft
RPI is the oracle for postseason placement. It makes it easier to rig the host sites for SEC schools because it can make some wins look worse than losses and some losses look like wins depending on which teams are being looked at or compared.
The old adage “that’s baseball “ and “a win is a win” don’t apply because a win by OSU against a “bad” team, a bad team from a lesser conference as judged by SEC types, isn’t nearly as important as a loss by an SEC team to another SEC team. The math internally becomes a net negative for most western teams in the same way strength of schedule does in football. There are simply more teams regionally for the rest of the country than in the western time zones. The subjective placement of quad 1-4 is also subjectively and mysteriously created. And no matter the argument, it is gospel truth as long as SEC dominance continues. If there was ever a season where SEC got cheated out of 2 national seeds, it would be changed immediately.
RPI is garbage, Auburn is 25-25, 6-21 in SEC, but ranked 45 in the RPI, but it is what they use so you have to play the game.
Somehow they’ll find a way to penalize us for only playing 7 innings yesterday
Andy Alfieri is the hometown commitment. xfer from Cal. Moved to TE by Cal in 2022.
What position was he before?
I thought he was best as an OLB, but he started as an ILB, and then moved to TE and then FB.
With his experience, he could be the next Coletto, playing a depth/specialist role at several positions.
Funny, I had been messaging with him a little back when he first left Cal. He was really interested in OSU, but we disnt appear to have room or the need at the time.
Then a week ago he messaged me “GoBeavs” but nothing else, so he must have committed at that point and was just waiting for things to get formalized this week.
He didnt get to play much at Cal but was very respected by his teammates and still has 2 years remaining. Could be a good veteran leader type guy for us. Always liked this guy
I must admit, I was surprised that he only played in six games total during his Cal career (unless that was a typo). It’s not like Cal has been a good team either. Not seeing much impact here unless Bray has some magic up his sleeve.
Men’s basketball commit:
https://247sports.com/college/oregon-state/article/oregon-state-mbb-commitment-munch-231724936/
And the United Nations rebuild continues! Will be interesting to see how all these pieces will work out. Think he’s the 5th foreign player on the squad.
Will it really be interesting, though?
well, his style of basketball won’t be interesting that’s for sure
Tinkle seems to be leaning toward foreign players as they cannot directly benefit for NIL deals due to their visa status. There are limited ways for them to benefit but takes a lot of work.
our dude Chol bailed to sjsu, so we appear to be stepping stone for international players too
He came from Maryland first.
He may be different because he moved to the US in high school

Per Boyds world the Beavs just need to win one in Tucson to stay in the top 16 in RPI. Top 8 is out of the question. I don’t see any path to a national seed unless the Beavs sweep in Tucson AND win the conference tournament.
Be that as it may, I do not feel.good about hosting chances if the Beavs do not win the regular season conference title or the tournament title. Or if they finish worse than 2nd and do not win the conference tournament.
We all know how the west coast gets treated by the selection committee.
One of the west coast hosts is going to be UCSB or UC Irvine.
Arizona can reach top 16 rpi.
RPI isn’t everything. Coaches poll has us at #6 so I don’t think you can rule out a top 8 opportunity.
We don’t have to be in the top 8 RPI to be a National seed, we just have to be close enough to be it explainable given the lack of west coast seeds.
But, if it’s close, don’t the “explainers” normally come down negative on schools in the west and POSITIVE on those in SEC country?
The only reason it’s considered close is because of that.
They aren’t even cose to start with.
But give them home field all post-season, and the predictable happens.
Don’t shoot the messenger when we’re disappointed a week from Monday
? to ? pipeline still a thing. Hopefully he finds success:

I see the new CW deal as a big win. CW is available in 99% of homes nationwide and several of our games will be directly after Xfinity NASCAR races. The civil war will be on FOX and the Boise State game could be on CBS . That would be 7 games in over the air national TV which has to be the most ever by a large margin. I also like that we avoid early season 12:30 games and the sun glare issue. Good move by Barnes.
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2024/05/oregon-state-announces-tv-kickoff-times-for-2024-home-football-games.html
Just from an exposure stand point this is 10 times better then the pac12 network scheduling ever was.
Now, just win baby, win.
Too bad all those guys left due to lack of exposure. This is going to be the most visible OSU football season in decades.
I’ll give Barnes a thumbs up for this CW partnership.
OTOH, our old pal Oram sees it differently. Primarily because ratings for PAC 2 games will have “flimsy viewership numbers, even a 0.0 Nielsen rating, because those numbers are based on a national sample…”
A big reason for those low numbers would be the other games available to fans at the same time on ESPN, ABC, Fox, CBS, etc.
Conferences that might consider OSU/WSU for membership in the future would be put off, Oram says, by viewership numbers which indicate no added value to a new conference.
Hmmm, I think he may have a point. Read the whole thing to see if you agree.

What’s the suggestion? schedule games at the same times but on a network nobody gets?
I mean, the point was the make the product accessible so if anybody wants to watch it, they don’t have any barriers preventing them from watching it. We’re always going to be going up against other conferences/teams if we play on Saturday. I guess my only suggestion would be to sprinkle in some more Friday games. But Friday doesn’t work well for most of the population who drives into Corvallis to see a game.
I like that the CW has an app that allows anybody to access it.
Anybody with an internet connection or an antenna will have legitimate access to every game if they’re interested in watching.
That wasn’t the case before on the Pac12 network.
That wouldn’t have been the case either if we were on Amazon/Apple/Cable Tv.
That’s awesome from a consumer perspective.
Now the goal will be to do the things we can do to get more fans interested in tuning in. Winning football games and getting ranked will do that. Guerilla marketing will do that.
Sure, most people will choose to watch Bama vs Florida instead of OSU/UNLV, but that was always going to be the case. The Beavs need to balance winning with viewership. If we had scheduled non-con bodybag games across the board, the wins would be few and far between and our own fan base would dwindle.
He’s a dipshit.
the CW was your only choice unless u like CBS sports Network
Beavs will have games on CBS anyway since they have a contract with MWC football. Likely several away games are on CBS national games.
We get both.
And that means I can just cut cable/sat.
Bye.
What’s the suggestion?……..didja read the whole thing?
…Apple TV, Amazon or Paramount Plus.
Launch a guerilla marketing campaign to drive subscriptions. Make it a cause celebre among the tens of thousands of people with degrees from Oregon State University.
Convince people that they can save athletics at OSU by subscribing.
…Imagine how much differently the Big 12 would look at Oregon State if it could point to 40,000 subscriptions sold versus a goose egg rating on The CW.
As Oram sees it, that’s “betting upon yourself”
That’s what I mean, the suggestion is to set up barriers to entry.
If you get 40k paying subscribers it means less people in the stands and less eyeballs overall warching OSU.
Youre still competing for eyeballs with Alabama/Florida on both networks.
Make it easy for the casual fan to flip channels and watch 1 or 2 quarters during half time of their other game. Maybe they’ll decide to stick around and watch the whole thing
Great point about less people in the stands, I hadn’t considered that.
I can see Bill hasn’t thought too much about the issue.
When we go to subscriptions for streaming, each school will certainly give “free” subscriptions to all students… probably by upping their fees a bit. And we have a couple hundred thousand alumni, not tens of thousands.
Better than that, our alumni demographic is mostly people from our own state, as opposed to the smaller school in my town, with less alumni and where most of them alumni are from Cali and overseas.
40k would be just students, faculty, and people associated with the school, including a supportive community. It would likely be more than that in Corvallis alone. 40k could be just the people who buy tickets to a game on a weekly basis. 40k could be the people who can’t afford those tickets but can afford the $7 a month it would cost.
He shoots for the dirt and manages to hit it.
Game times are way better this season than most recent ones. A lot fewer late games.
I actually like the night games, especially when the weather is still warm. The Reser atmosphere has improved in recent years, with the added lighting effects. It’s like Club Reser and the energy is usually good
The main downside was getting home at 1:30AM.
Day games should help get more butts in the seats though.
I can see Stanford and Cal home games being not picked by the ACC Network and being shown on CW instead, maybe even produced by Pac 12 studios
You might be onto something. The conference announced today the hiring of Michael Molarni to head the broadcasting enterprise. Sounds like they’re going to offer broadcasting services for other events outside of OSU/WSU athletics.
Good to see the Pac2 is getting creative and putting those assets to work. Could turn into a valuable revenue stream.
“With Molinari’s appointment, Pac-12 Enterprises will take its broadcast production services external and welcome new and prospective clients to utilize its full suite of production capabilities. In addition to producing live events and content for Pac-12 member universities, Pac-12 Enterprises now offers award-winning production services to the broader world of sports and entertainment with its state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2023 in San Ramon, Calif., featuring:
Unrivaled combination of quality, price & efficiency at scale
Nine broadcast control rooms designed for “REMI” style centralized production that maximizes scalability and cost efficiency
2,200 square foot acoustically-tuned stage space and insert studios
IP2110-based technology infrastructure with connectivity to produce live events anywhere in the world
Unique video replay & monitoring center
Proven track record of producing 850+ live events per year for high quality broadcasts”

Wilner just posted an article about this. Trying to find it for free, no luck yet.
Are there any reports documenting annual revenue and expenditures of NCAA collectives? There is no requirement for reporting or any controls on them, correct?
Other then maybe being non-profits. I know the government tracks that info.
OREGON STATE TO THE BIG12! In gymnastics…maybe. according to canzano were in talks to join.
Anybody know what’s up with almost the entire softball team hitting the portal?
Is it a coaching issue, or related to the end of the Pac12 conference?
Will baseball see a similar exodus or do we think being independent will help keep things together?
What league is softball joining next year?
The players want to identify with being a Power Conference player competing against other Power Conference players as it’s essentially the pinnacle of their career.
WCC is not really even a Softball conference, they only have 5 teams (Saint Mary’s, LMU, Santa Clara, Pacific, San Diego), all of which are pretty terrible.
So, for players that came to OSU to compete against big Softball schools like Stanford and UCLA, and good ones in CAL, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, and Utah, it’s a big let down, especially since the team wasn’t very good this year. They could stay at OSU and travel to those smaller crappy schools and maybe be really competitive and make the NCAA tournament, and likely get crushed when they get there. I’m not sure that would feel very exciting to me either in contrast to the opportunity to transfer with a fresh start to a Power Conference program.
I get it, but they’re kind of a crappy team in the P-12. I would want to go dominate in a mid-major given the data that’s in. I mean the end best result is a loss in the playoffs one way or the other. I didn’t realize power conference status was so important to average players.
from reddit; so take it with a grain of salt, supposedly b12 is going to vote on beavs/cougs becoming affiliate members sometime this month
For gymnastics

He sure leaned back on that one…
In truth – we probably NEVER should have cared as much about college sports as we did, or do. Back in the day you could at least feel that the players were going to the same school you did, walking the same halls. But more importantly, valued the school as much as you did. Enjoyed the campus as much as you did. You shared a bond. NIL money has kind of killed that connection.
Mike Parker would always ask athletes in interviews what brought athletes to Corvallis – whether they said the Pac-12 conference! or the Family Atmosphere or small town vibe – it was kind of cool to think there is something unique and special about this school. I still think there is, but we know athletes are in it for the NIL, then best shot at the pros, then a degree…I don’t fault them, but college athletics has really removed the fabric that made it unique. I don’t care if they are getting money, I’m fine with it, but the chasing of NIL deals in the portal is just demoralizing.
“then a degree” Really? Does it even enter their minds anymore?
Looking forward to attending tomorrow’s game. Will be interesting to see how UA fans handle Aiden May’s return.
Hopefully we’ll see the Beavs’ power on display like it was in Surprise. I’m expecting some slug fests this series.
I wouldn’t count on it Hi-C tough park. Hopefully coaching is smarter than they have showed as of late.
Caraway could be back but if smart they would ease him and Mason back in but knowing how bad coaching is they will throw them straight into the fire.
Arizona has some solid pitching which is change just 1 years removed from the Disaster of Lawn. TCU is finding out why he was let go.
These 3 games are going to take the best defensive lineup they can throw out there. Krieg is best 1st baseman defensively keeping Trosky at 3 will be beneficial and running with Smith behind the plate will keep OSU out of using the bullpen to early. Guessing Gipson will try to get Canham to think offense more important than defense.
lol… if Caraway is back, it’s because he’s ready. It doesn’t mean he’s in the right mindset and can pick up where he left off. But we won’t know until he actually plays.
And if he’s ready, he gets a long leash.
So with your stupidity you going to let Caraway go 0-40 to end the season, before you do something about it?
No wonder they call you the house idiot.
They already tried that with Mason and look where they are?!? Starting post season and no idea if he comes out of it, and it’s not the right time of year to experiment. Lol
Jack be nimble but Jack isn’t so quick!
I expected at least one comment without a fallacy, before you ran out of troll material.
But you just led off with them.
Good for you. Cut to the… well… chase.

Interesting tidbit on the NCAA lawsuit/settlement currently being discussed.
The Pac12 teams will still be voting as 12 teams, rather than 2 when it relates to the settlement, because the 12 teams were part of the conference when the lawsuit was initiated.
Makes me wonder how likely or possible it would he for the 10 to vote together and overrule anything WSU/OSU have concerns with? Like is this a unanimous vote? 3/4 majority?
Could be risky
https://twitter.com/PeteThamel/status/1791173222995501325?t=MP_9nt6QW-jogC9Zmzg9KQ&s=19
I believe this is a none issue and was part of the settlement agreement. I think the original fear from ORST/WSU was the 10 schools would try to leave the liability behind or try to use ongoing PAC12 assets to pay the fines. I believe the 12 school vote was included in the settlement to keep ORST and WSU from screwing the 10, not the other way around.
Hope they wrote in some type of language that a 12 team consensus vote is required so the majority can’t overrule the 2
I wouldn’t worry too much about our liabilities. They can be proven to follow the schools, wherever they end up. Follow the money is a reversible idea.
“The NCAA” as a defendant will come from whatever championships they’ve sold off in the past and future. Current conference affiliation has nothing to do with past activities.
It probably didn’t need to be negotiated, just added as rote.
https://www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/news/local/campus/2024/05/16/mel-tucker-michigan-state-lawsuit-brenda-tracy-text-messages/73698467007/
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Looking more and more like Tucker was correct. Any many of us were correct about BT
I’ve noticed Conzano isn’t talking about it at all which means BT isn’t looking too good in this.
That’s an interesting point, he usually breaks out a long sob story piece in these situations.
Someone should tweet er x that at him and post his response.
Especially the released text messages.
BT has zero credibility. And that’s being polite.
Defend that dipshit
Not surprised, the whole thing smelled fishy from the get go.
Now she’s complaining people won’t do business with her non-profit and blames Tucker’s attorney for that?
No, they don’t want to do business with you because they finally realize you’re toxic.
She’s trash. Would not surprise me in the least if this was her plan all along. Get close to Tucker and try to extort money from him or MSU.
I’m no fan of Tucker and he was an idiot for letting that gold digger anywhere near him or the MSU football program.
But he’s been the most honest of all parties involved.
That was 100% her plan. She was doing the same shit with Damon Stoudamire at Georgia Tech simulatneous to her relationship with Tucker. Damon was just fortunate to not be the first guy to slip up.
Not his first rodeo.
Read these transcripts, it was always a grift.
https://www.wzzm13.com/article/news/investigations/mel-tuckers-lawyers-new-evidence-undermines-sexual-harassment-accusation/69-36abd537-ca1c-447a-bc44-6d48f066eb8a
Choo Choo! All aboard the money train.
Straight trash and a liar.
Hopefully she’s been exposed once and for all.
The Heimlichs would never even attempt to take her to court. They’re above that piece of street walker garbage
I NEVER believed her from day one with her accusations against the OSU football players and program.
And I took a lot of flack for it.
Do I believe something happened? Yes.
Do I believe her version of events? No
As someone who knew some of the football players at that time due to where my wife worked at OSU? Nope
I won’t say what I do or don’t know and much of it IS hearsay. But nope. I don’t believe her. At all. If you know anything about her personal life, there is nothing about her that comes across as having any good character whatsoever. I can’t believe anyone fell for her bullshit.
She’s a grifter as you stated and imo a lying twat.
I hope she goes broke. Deserves whatever she gets at this point.
She wants to do nothing but destroy successful coaches or athletes and ESPECIALLY black ones.
There. I said it. Follow the dots. It’s not hard if you know anything about her personal life.
BT’s lawyer “pointed to the good work the nonprofit had done and said schools and organizations won’t work with them anymore……North Face won’t work with Set The Expectations anymore. Nobody will work with Set The Expectations. They have essentially destroyed Set The Expectations.”
Ummm, who “destroyed” BT’s meal ticket?
No one will give me free shit because I’m a grifter, wah.
Sounds simple, but didn’t Tracy always have the option of just hanging up on the dude and then blocking his calls? Too bad Luke Heimlich can’t sue her for career damages!
Does msu owe Mel 80mil for wrongful termination?
Judge will decide.
I could see them settling now. There’s the argument that Tucker still shouldn’t have been using the school’s phone to have phone sex with his then girlfriend. But it sounds like he wasn’t even in the country at the time and that phone, while technically school property, is the phone that he is required to use for all purposes as a head football coach. It’s a team issued phone, basically.
I doubt he’s the first university employee to use a school issue phone to do something similar. Wonder if anybody else was fired in the past for cause?
help. please. I have Fubo which broadcasts Pac-12 games but it isn’t on their menu this evening. I see the game is on Pac-12 Arizona but where/how do I find that?
https://pac-12.com/baseball/event/2024/05/16/oregon-state-arizona
thx – found a person to talk to at fubo – game on – if you can’t find a game and it is streaming on fubo but not listed in the guide: home, search, type in name of one of the teams.
Turley and Kasper with 2 run bombs in the 3rd. 4-0 Beavs.
UA starter already at 60 pitches.
Trosky with an rbi single. 5-0 good guys
Straight talk from the well grounded Rueck.
https://archive.ph/sEUrt
Let’s just let Rueck coach men’s and women’s teams. He would probably improve on Tinkle’s era just by standing on the sideline during games.
Damn, finally found the game after some deep searching on Sling TV. Regular P-12 Arizona is showing ASU/Texas Tech, is that an actual live game or some shitty replay?
Live. ASU is done with conference play.
Game is on Pac12 Oregon I think
Nope, it was showing the Quack/Wazzu game. I somehow figured out to do a search and it’s on something called P-12 Now, I think.
Aiden May with 7K’s and 94 pitches thru 7.
9-1 Beavs
One down, two to go.
Expect Mitch to really stretch out guys if Kmatz can’t go long.
9-2 final. Need to bring it again tomorrow. Talking to you Kmatz
The good news after tonight,.Beavs cannot finish worse than 3rd.
Utah lost at USC. One win or Oregon loss the rest of the weekend and they can’t finish worse than 2nd.
Just got home, that was fun sitting about 10 feet away from Chip Hale. Beavers did all the right things other than RF misplay. May was solid, wasn’t sure what his pitch count was. We were second row from AZ dugout…more than batters were walking back, saying “fucking bullshit” and the umpire was horrible. Good to get in their heads tonight…Beavs really barreled some pitches.
So Arizona thinks the PAC2 overlords have sent a message to the umps? Advantage OSU finally?
Smith had that ump eating out of the palm of his hand. He may have hit like crap, but defensively was on point.
Trosky made hell of play turning the DP.
Taking their starter out and making them use their bullpen could be huge if OSU can stay out of the bullpen tomorrow. My guess is they will go with Weber which batting could be good but he isn’t the defensive player like Smith.
Was nice to see Kasper call off Bazanna he isn’t taking any chances anymore.
“…nice to see Kasper call off Bazanna he isn’t taking any chances anymore.”
You’re reading my mind!
Beavs likely facing Clark Candiotti tonight, son of Tom Candiotti.
Knuckleballs incoming
Why doesn’t anyone throw a knuckle anymore?
Because they get kicked out of the league for betting on games /s. David Fletcher recently struck out three with the Knuck but was promptly investigated for illegal bets shortly after the video went viral, lol.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdUT5ZKa6PQ
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/40166891/angels-david-fletcher-bet-bookie
Another knuckleballer, Matt Waldron, struck out ten the other day.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjchpJORC2g
George Kirby also has a knuckleball, and I wish he would throw it more:

Barnes has to keep these announcements coming to keep players
I seldom consider the thumbs up/down thing, but do wonder what the thinking is behind downvoting Bill’s comment here.
Cool trick I found. You can just go to the Pac12 international youtube channel and if you have a VPN, set it to somewhere in Europe and it will let you watch live.
https://youtube.com/@Pac12NetworksIntl
Beavs looking good so far up 9-0 top of the sixth, a chance to add more. Be nice to have the regular season championship come down to one game tomorrow.
10 now!
Lawson… goodness, zero pressure and he can’t find the plate.
Got to give Dorman at least a little credit this time, he didn’t put up with that no-control bullshit and yanked Lawson out of there. God knows, how many games it cost the Beavs this season. They are the best team in the conference by far and it should not have come down to one game.
Hopefully a sign that we’re finally cutting the nike Beaver logo.
https://twitter.com/beaverequipment/status/1791521471774499231?t=lHA5GUK45LGPII6x7Q6iFg&s=19
You suppose there’s a logo reveal coming for the other side of the ball?
Was kind of hoping they might be at the end of their deal with Nike and could entertain competitive proposals for new graphics and designs.
I think the current Nike deal runs through the end of 2026.
I actually like our logo. What would you propose as a logo for a beaver? People complain that it looks like a nutrea…. well yeah. I also rebranding for the sake of it makes us look junior league.
Also think*
Benny Beanie.
Demon rat tootsie-roll pop head scares little children… and me to an extent.
The 4 iron is good as a secondary logo that can be an option for merch, but a unified Benny logo is more welcoming than some edgy groupthink, especially with all the history already attached.
The schools who welcome and promote their cartoons best seem to have the most success overselling their brands.
16-1 final.
Tomorrow evening will decide the Pac-12 title
Great performances the last two games, hope we saved up enough of this offensive output to have for tomorrow.
Will be kicking ourselves if we can’t win tomorrow. If only we’d won a single game against Cal and USC, we’d be comfortable PAC 12 champs. Or hadn’t blown a 9 run lead to the Utes.
Pressure will be on Segura tomorrow to get through 5-6 innings. I’d guess Holmes will be available for 3 innings and Mundt for a couple if he struggles. Very little reason to use anyone else.
Expect Keljo to pitch in the 6th or 7th too. The team homerun streak ended tonight didn’t it? How many games in a row did they hit at least 1 homerun? I think it was approaching 30 games…Good showing for the whole team in all phases. Glad for Guerra to get a few hits. Hoping they maintain focus tommorow and don’t have another letdown game. Best performance on the road for these guys since early in non conference. Most of the conference roadtrips have had some disastrous results, so far so good in Tuscon.
Keljo for lefty lefty matchup but that’s about it.
10 according to Daschel
16-1 win with no home runs. That is a brutal beatdown
OSU first opponent in Scottsdale will be Stanford or UW. Stanford is the 8 seed, UW 9th.
We should know who’s seeded where 4-7 by the time the Beavs play tomorrow evening. All other conference games are early afternoon starts and should be over by 6pm
What?! I thought this series started on Friday. Why the early Thursday(?) start? It’s encouraging that they seem to be getting hot at the right time. Particularly the pitching. I think they are in great shape after winning the series even if they lose the final game. If they win at least two games in conference tourney I think they will be a top 8 seed nationally.
Because the conference tournament starts on Tuesday
Aww gotcha!
Arizona would drop all the way to 3rd with a loss and Oregon win. They’d finish with identical 19-11 records and Oregon took 2 of 3 in Eugene earlier this year.
USC just needs to win and they’ll be the 4 seed.
Utah could finish as high as 4th with a win. Or drop all the way to 7th with a loss. They do have series wins over Cal and ASU so would win any tiebreaker or 3 team tiebreaker over those 2 teams.
4-7 is a logjam right now with Cal, Utah, ASU and USC all within a half game of each other.
Beavs will not be travelling back to Corvallis after Saturdays game. They will be staying in Arizona to prepare for the Pac-12 tournament.
I’d prefer a bracket with Utah and UW in it. That would be the ideal scenario. Don’t want any part of the Arizona schools, USC or Cal in pool play.
7 straight wins. And the pitching has been pretty good this weekend.
OSU Gymnast and 2021 Olympics floor gold medalist Jade Carey competing in 2024 US Classic today along with the likes of Simone Biles and Suni Lee, 4:00-6:00 pm PST.
After this weekend’s U.S. Classic, top gymnasts will next compete at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas from May 30 to June 2. From there, it’s on to the U.S. Olympic trials in Minneapolis, which begin June 27.
The top all-arounder at the Olympic trials automatically qualifies for the Paris Games and, given she’s won every all-around competition she’s entered going back to 2013, that would figure to be Biles. The remaining four athletes, along with two alternates, will be chosen by a selection committee based on their performances this year, scoring potential and how they’d contribute in both qualifying and team finals.
Biles’ session of competition will be televised live on CNBC and can also be streamed on Peacock. NBC will also run a show recapping all the highlights from the U.S. Classic at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Also this: “…2022 World Championships vault gold medalist Jade Carey is coming off of wins in the all-round and on floor at the American Classic on April 27 as she returns to elite form.”
We’re a Jade Carey school now.
I’ll take it for a summer.
Kick ass win!
Hope they can sweep and win the championship. It would be a nice middle finger to the rest of the traitorous former members of the conference.
Alright Beavs let’s go win that conference title that studentbeaver so desperately wants
Lucy’s ready.
Kick away!
“Student Beaver” aka “Beaver Analyst”……Quack fan, a serial downvoter with probably five or six other aliases on this site.
I’ve been wondering about that. It is the only way to explain the recent surge of random 5-6 downvotes on good comments by guys like Bill or oob.
Duck trolls are gonna duck troll.
I don’t think there’s anything blocking someone from creating as many log-ins as they would like until an administrator gets involved. No way in hell his comments are getting 6 or 7 upvotes either.
Damn you far-right pro-Putin anti-vaxx Duck bots!!
It’s wild.
If you had to live through the 80s, did you ever imagine the GOP would become the party soft on crime AND pro The Evil Empire, especially when run by one of the biggest Soviet spooks of that era?
Hard to imagine. And now they’ve infiltrated this website.
It’s absolutely wild.
I tried a new method to stop it. The next step might have to be requiring a login to place a vote. I don’t want to do that, but if people abuse the system it’s an option.
All the early games are final. USC beat Utah to sweep them. USC is the 4 seed. Cal beat Washington to finish tied with ASU at 17-13. ASU is the 5 seed as they swept Cal. Cal is 6th followed by Utah 7th, Stanford 8th and UW 9th.
Only the top 3 seed are undetermined. If Beavs win this evening it would be 1. OSU 2. Oregon 3. Arizona. If Arizona wins, they move to 1 and push OSU and Oregon back one spot each. Arizona cannot be the 2 seed. OSU cannot finish worse than 2nd.
Pool A
1. X
6. CAL
9. UW
Pool B
2. X
5. ASU
8. Stanford
Pool C
3. X
4. USC
7. Utah
Krieg replaces Guerra at 1B despite Guerra going 3-6 yesterday and Krieg struggling at the plate as of late.
If you watched Mason swing he still not off. Arizona defense was that bad. He behind everything and they play him pull
Talt DH solid stay there but still questionable but they have no one else.
The huge question will be Eric with Weber behind the plate. He keeps struggling with him back there but the want Weber groundballs in the lineup 0-6 but he hit them hard. lol
Word around the league is Canham maybe headed back to MiLB after this year with the team losing atleast 10-12 players plus the portal sounds like it going to hit hard.
“Duck Troll Headline News”
You might want to add some basic proof reading before posting.
You make Tonto sound like a rhetorical genius.
You are so lost in the clouds thinking everyone or everything is about the ducks. You do realize OSU is really irrelevant to Oregon?
I mean let’s be honest they have nicer facilities, more money and watched more nationally the OSU.
Sad as OSU has great campus and baseball tradition.
All facts start as rumors look at OSU football team. Coach bails after everyone said he wouldn’t then the players. Lol
Tonto was a rhetorical genius, in more than one language.
This dude barely Englishes.
“Word around the league is Canham maybe headed back to MiLB after this year with the team losing atleast 10-12 players plus the portal sounds like it going to hit hard.”
I recognize that’s possible but it also sounds like a convenient rumor for other teams who want to create doubt on OSU’s roster..
Yup trying to start rumors that have no legs.
At $600k he makes 8-10x what the internet says minor league managers make so a return to MiLB is the stupidest rumor out there. Now the SEC team paying him $1m if they make the Super or Omaha, I’d be worried about that.
Loving the double plays. 2-1 Beavs after 4.
Through 4, Beavs up 2-1 thanks, in part, to two DP’s and just one e by ‘Cats (so far).
Oh, and a little “small ball” by Miiiitttccch.
Why would the baseball players enter the portal knowing that they have a shot to win a National Championship??? There are only handful of teams that have deep NIL money that might be able to pry a couple away but I don’t think baseball is a big NIL sport, but maybe I’m wrong.???
Wouldn’t have thought that about women’s bball but here we are
Turn on the blinders and just enjoy this one last ride
Through 5, still 2-1. Segura’s been seen twice now by all the ‘cats and has needed 2 DP’s. A good outing for him but Dorman’s gotta be ready to pull him at first sign of trouble.
Likely to take more runs by Beav batters to win this.
UPDATE: Keljo on to start the b6, right move?…….I think so.
Ya he definitely needs some run support. They can’t go cold in this of all games.
Lease should be pretty short now
b7, tied. Time for Joey, Keljo not fooling anyone.
Those were two strike calls missed. Then leads to a walk. That’s rough.
The bats needs to step up
Wow. Another twin killing gets the Beavs out of another mess.
Tied at 2 after 7. Need to get Walty out of the game.this inning.
Walty is pulled with 1 out and runner on 2nd in the 9th.
Hainline with a clutch double
Susac comes on to face .333 Talt in a righty/lefty spot with go ahead run in Hainline on 2nd. Now’s the time!!
Bad call!
And then we say “EFF THE REFS!” with the nice single
Should’ve been two runs but they take the lead off a triosky single
Mundt in to close it out. Runner on 1st and 2nd with 1 out.
Well once again the committees have their excuse to screw over the Beavs when seeding comes out.
Expect a super regional matchup with one of the SEC teams and the toughest #2 if we actually get to host.
Too bad because that was a clutch top 9th by the bottom of the order.
Miss me?? I’ve been spending my time blessing the Beavs baseball team with my good luck charms. Whoops, looks like they fumbled another away…
Absolutely pathetic.
Three years in a row now coming in second in the Pac. Arizona wins the eternal PAC 12 championship. Luck of the Beavs of course. If only we could have beaten Cal once. Or won one other game against mediocre conference competition.
Team should be ashamed.
Duck troll confirmed.
Be that as it may, he’s not wrong.
They should be ashamed. Getting swept at Cal and USC is unacceptable. Losing a 10 run lead and the game at Utah is unacceptable. This program is better and expects better than that. Just one win in any of those games and it’s the Beavs celebrating a Pac12 title last night.
41-12. You can’t win them all. P.S. in baseball that is great. The team has it’s issues and thus you can expect better this year, but they are not. Not with the spotty pitching at least. Better hope for a post-season hitting hot streak.
I understand “it’s baseball” and you can’t win them all.
Losing 3 in a row to Cal on walkoffs isn’t just baseball. Same with losing a 10 run lead and the game at Utah.
And The Pac is a 3 bid league this year unless someone other than the top 3 wins the conference tournament.
I should have stated that was more my point. They should be embarrassed because I don’t believe USC or Cal are better teams than OSU. I’m betting the players don’t feel that way either.
Because I’m upset we didn’t win the last PAC 12 conference title when we had multiple opportunities to do so in a down year, and came in 2nd for the third year in a row? That totally makes sense!
Say that to one of the players’ face, pussy.
If we was actually a student and didn’t live in Eugene he could.
Hit batters and walks to the bitter end.
This bullpen just isn’t good. When you face a tough opposing pitcher and can’t score 10+ runs that’s what can happen in a close ballgame.
Sucks but that’s what this team is. We’ve seen it all year.
Believe the Beavs will open vs Stanford on Wednesday

Well shit….
Had a feeling this would be the outcome!
Bridger Holmes has to be the least focused pitcher ever. He pitched 28 innings over the course of the season. Hit 16 batters, usually after getting ahead of the count. That’s actually higher than the total number of walks issued in those 28 innings, which was 13. combined, that’s one walk or hit batter for every inning pitched. His last hit batter and walk were the winning runs.

At the US Classic today, OSU’s Jade Carey took first in the vault. She was 4th in all around, about 5.1 points behind winner Simone Biles.
But can she throw strikes?
Exactly!!
“There are four other spots on the U.S. team, however, and performances at Classic gave an indication of who will be joining Biles in Paris.
Here’s a look at the contenders, with the national championships and Olympic trials still to come:
…
Selecting a team isn’t as easy as picking the top five all-arounders. While teams compete four of their five gymnasts on each event in qualifying and get to drop the lowest score, they compete three gymnasts in the finals and have to count every score. One fall and the gold could be gone. Two or three, and you might not get any spot on the medals podium.
Having gymnasts who are consistent is important. But so is having a team that can put up big scores across all events.
…
Almost there:
Jade Carey. The Americans need another big vault score, and Carey would provide that. She’s also strong on floor, where she’s the reigning Olympic champion. Carey was fifth on floor Saturday night, but remember this was her first competition after doing NCAA at Oregon State, and her routine is likely to look different by the Olympic trials next month.”

Most of us don’t give a shit if you’re a student or not, we just think you suck. Post less.
Hmmm… What if all of you are the same person and this has been some elaborate prank pulled on my for the last 10 or so years…?
Imagine how much free time you’d have to have on your hands to pull that off. It would be like old Jack levels of free time.
Who cares if the Beavs didn’t win the title. 2 of their 3 ships came from teams who didn’t win the conference. Winning a conference title in baseball doesn’t really mean as much as in other sports. Sucks, but LSU didn’t win their conference last year. And I think they are pretty happy with the final result.
Bottom line is we basically owned Arizona for most of that series minus one inning. Good to see heading into postseason.
And the Arizona coach didn’t care and maybe expected that. He only needed to win 1 game in the series. I don’t know if the game-3 super pitcher was always game 3 pitcher but given beaver iffiness for game 3 pitching and a not very good bullpen, I think it was a strategic on Chip Hale’s part.
Plus, doesn’t the official conference title technically go to the tourney champ?
Are you suggesting the #9 seed could win the tournament and be crowned Pac12 conference champions? No.
Baseball conference tournaments blow. Glad we won’t have ine next year.
Agreed. However the Beavs must absolutely beat Stanford. They cannot lose that first game. Stanford is not good and has a terrible RPI.
Being a national seed at this point is probably a stretch unless the Beavs win the conference tournament. That 10-10 record vs Q1 and Q2 opponents is very suspect. It means the Beavs basically beat up on bad teams. Which is true.
But if they lose to Stanford it may kill the RPI enough that even being a regional host may be in jeopardy.
Losing to ASU wouldn’t be the end of the discussion though.
But a W vs Stanford would move the Beavs into the semifinals automatically
We all know there east coast bias but I believe the Beavs have earned enough “cache”/ respect over the years after three championships and being a top 10 program over the years where I think/ hope it will help them in their national seeding. Some good points mentioned above but am hopeful it won’t hurt their seeding.
Beavs will host just not top 8, I don’t think the committee will snub a unanimous top 10 team of hosting regardless of the RPI.
Beavs would be a top 8 seed easy this year if the PAC12 didn’t suck. UCLA, USC, Stanford, ASU should not have any excuses for the poor showings they have had this year. They have natural recruiting advantages built in for them that their down years would still make the postseason.
To be fair, the SEC isn’t all that, either. I would say they have about four or five viable teams, and if the rest were in the Pac 12, they would not be getting bids.
Getting swept by cal and bad losses to usc did them in, however winning pac tournament might get a nat seed
Great season from beavers baseball as a top 10 team.
Now is what the whole season is prepared for.
Not some conference accolade like studentbeaver wants to somehow try to negatively bring the team down.
The postseason is what it’s all about.
No one cares at the end of the season who won what division/conference in any sport. Who won NFC central division in football this last year? Who cares!
Who one in the playoffs, now that matters.
Bring on the postseason
No one won the nfc central
Ha!
Bingo!!!! I’ve said this all year and studentbeaver wants to deny reality. Here is my exact comment:
“ A conference title is the measure of success, now? Did you realize that LSU didn’t win their conference last year and won the championship. Did you realize they didn’t win the conference title in two out of three of their last championships? Did you realize they haven’t won their conference since 2017? At least understand your own argument before making stuff up to cope.”
I have a feeling this team is gonna step up. IMO, they stepped up in this last series. Winning 2/3 in every series will bring you a championship.
Beaver lock bat signal is up
3* RB Kourdey Glass. Mostly Mtn West offers. 1 from Zona but assume that’s primarily due to Brennan as Glass was offered by San Jose St as well.
He had a WSU offer, too. Top 100 CA player. Offer sheets aren’t as useful as they used to be in indicating how good a guy really is because the big programs are utilizing the portal so much more.
Interesting hudl tape.
He has a great sense of spacing and leverage. At about the 3:40 mark I saw him use these to redirect in the backfield, and I remembered to scroll down, because I knew at that point he also played hoops.
Patience on his cuts, but he gets into his long stride really quickly. Doesn’t take much direct contact when tackled. Top end speed isn’t breakaway. He ran mid-11s in the 100m last year. I don’t see any times from this spring.
But what I like most is his hands in the passing game. Wheel routes and breaking him off to the split or slot looks like a good future.
I believe pass catching ability is a larger focus for this staff/offense than in years past.
Glass ceiling?
Sounds kinda fragile…
Hope he holds up.
Looking at his film, is his potential clear?
Can he really cut?
You may want to keep your expectations tempered…
You guys are just blowing hot air.
Well done gentlemen lol
Sounds like Takari Hickle is out next season with an ACL injury from Spring ball
luck o’ da beavs
No! He was one of the players I was looking forward to most this season.
It never ends as a Beaver fan.
Time for Collins and Howard to step up.
This prompted me to look at our depth chart for the first time in several months and WOW did our roster get decimated.
WBB picked up a 6’5″ Danish F/C. I think she’s an incoming Freshman.

Freshman with 5 yrs to play 4.
Hopefully Ron Callan will have to learn the Danish national anthem in 4 years!
Has the change I made helped at all with the serial downvoting? If not, are people open to registering accounts to post? That would be the only real way around it. Otherwise we just have to deal and mock that person for having zero life.
I chose to ignore and not engage with that POS a long time ago.
Mac coach says play for us, we’ll get you to the big10 in 2 years. At least he’s honest about the NIL situation being a G5 coach.

This is a very realistic and smart approach in the new world. Offer playing time and market yourself as essentially a minor league stepping stone.
The new era of college athletics has begun today when Big12 reps all voted to a settlement within the antitrust lawsuit.
It is funny how ESPN covers all of these stories as if they are an impartial observer and had nothing to do with $billions entering college athletics for the last 25 years through media contracts and advertising. So they report that it is a noble thing for the students to finally get a piece of the university $ pie.
Now the fallout will begin once athletic departments realize this is the straw that breaks their athletic budget once and for all. Thousands of sports will be cut across the country from campus to campus in order to facilitate this disaster. But this is the fallout of greed and arrogance in higher education administrators.
On the plus side, it does add fuel to the fire that the B12 is moving to take on private equity (TKO) and expand to 32 teams coast-to-coast (assuming ACC goes down) to get out ahead of the BIG/SEC pushing for a new Power 2 era.
Maybe they need a state of the art media network.
That could come in handy at the advent of the streaming era, as well as during the last gasps of linear TV.
Dion Lennox (AHM) being on campus pumping the WWE brand (TKO) to the team and giving them a branded WWE belt to compete for during summer workouts is also kind of interesting in this context. All quiet from @MHver3 but all stuff he said was in the works before saying he needed to go dark. FWIW.

PAC2 next?!?
“At issue is the schools’ portion. The power conferences will pay about $664 million in contributions to the damages. The other 27 non-power conferences will pay $990 million.”
That is absolutely wild.
So AJ Lattery gets the start tomorrow for the Beavs. Hasn’t pitched since Texas Tech in Feb if I’m not mistaken.
Lattery?!? Gas Can Bullpen alert!!!
Dorman better be ready to pull them all on short leashes for this game. The Beavs can’t really afford to lose a game until the championship or they will get bumped from even hosting a regional.
Pregame hype will be predictable that Lattery “has been refining his approach and should be lights” out since no one is seen him pitch in 2 months… good grief Charlie Brown. I hope I’m wrong and Beavs bats go city league softball beast mode on opposing pitchers this weekend to the extent that the horrific bullpen doesn’t matter.
I was thinking it would be too short a week for May.
May set to go Thursday, according to what he said on radio today.
Lattery has, so far, been a big disappointment to me. With his size I had him figured to be an intimidating closer to follow Jake Mulholland.
Huh, I was thinking they’d go with Hunter.
Lattery is good for 2 or 3 innings. He has serious control issues. Dude never gave up too many runs but he’d average 30 pitches an inning and could never go beyond 3.
Caraway’s long awaited return is rumored to be this week
I believe it when it happens….
Can’t read the article, but Joel Freeman has this headline: “Key Oregon State baseball players ‘excited’ about Beavers’ future, plan to stick around and build on success”, …if you’re reeling from Martinez departure or WBB mass exodus, don’t worry about the crown jewel of OSU sports…men’s baseball players excited for program’s future…Gavin Turley for example says he’s sticking around.
Have we heard this before?
Will baseball be different?
Here ya go:
https://archive.ph/ByHXG
I have hopes that the baseball program will largely be able to weather this storm but sadly, the lip service is to be expected, and what every other athlete has said. Of course, what else would you expect them to say during the season? “Yeah, I’m definitely leaving but hoping to make a splash in the post-season before xferring.”
Time will tell.
What I’ve been told is the following.
Schedule is 90% done. Very few games outside of preseason stuff will be at Goss. Most teams want to play us on their conference bye week but very few are willing to travel.
Coaching staff has committed to coming back.
The underclassmen have been very positive about staying and held a team meeting to emphasize staying the course to keep the Beaver baseball legacy going.
We will see….
This one is odd. it looks like we picked up a new 2025 commit today, but there was no BeaverLock tweet from Bray. And it seems way too early to be picking up PWO commits (which don’t usually get the beaver lock tweet).
But the graphic looks pretty official. Local kid from Albany
https://twitter.com/tj_zimmermann4/status/1793296058401042694
ahh…looks like a Juco transfer
or New Mexico transfer possibly
Yeah I’m seeing a 2-star transfer from New Mexico. Lol.
TJ was a 2021 grad from West Albany and was 1st team all conference his JR/SR years. He then went down to College of San Fran and played one season of TE and made 8 catches in 5 games as they went undefeated and won the JC championship.
He then transferred to New Mexico, but was only there for there through Spring. He then came back home to Linn-Benton and played basketball where his Dad is the Head Coach, and was named an All-American F/C averaging 21.6 points and 10.4 rebounds/game the past two seasons.
A JR walk-on with 2 years to play 2. Seems like a good hard-working kid with good size and below average ability (6-5 250), but he does have Viking look to him, so he’s got that going for him.
https://athletics.linnbenton.edu/sports/mbkb/2023-24/releases/all-america
Doing a little searching through my old notes. Zimmerman was a covid lockdown casualty. Didn’t attend camps, didn’t get exposure. He tried getting OSU’s attention back then but it was too late and didn’t work out. He ultimately found a team at New Mexico. He’s been trying to get on the Beavs squad for about 4 years now, so it’s nice to see his persistence has paid off
Beavs have struck out looking 5 times already today. Left bases juiced. 1 hit, 4 walks. 5 stranded. Hunter on the mound
I’m the game and honestly the stadium is about what I’d expect for a now defunct conference championship location. Only 1 pro scoreboard is working, half the outfield is closed due to construction, and it all looks old/tired.
So the Beavs are playing accordingly. Beav bats need to wake up soon because Stanford is chirping like they have last years Omaha roster instead of the club they were this year
Parker nearly losses it on a terrible strike three call on Trosky. After repeatedly yelling “oh no”, etc he says, “I apologize, but not much”
Mid 5th, 1-0 Stanford; Beavs have K’d 9 times (including the travesty above)
9 strikeouts and 1 hit so far is not going to cut it.
Yep. This is the Beavs offense from a few weeks ago. Can’t hit shit. Striking out. This is vs a freshman pitcher who’s a day 3 or 4 guy for them if I’m not mistaken. Realize there’s still time left and this tourney isn’t over but how disappointing is it to not win the regular season title and potentially the tournament title with how stacked this ball club is? Don’t give me that shit about “well the regional is really where the focus should be”. If you can’t step up to the moment for the season or tournament title, the fuck you think you’ll do when the stakes are even higher?
Poor offense only part of the disgusting story.
Hunter’s line when pulled: BF 15, K’s ZERO, bb’s 2, hits allowed 5.
On the bright side, Hunter has thrown only 3 to the backstop so far but no runners on when he picked his spot to be Wild.lol
Great catch by Macias in left saves a run so far.
Well, Beavs score 1 so far in 9th. 2 down with a runner on 1st.
Dang it! Swung at ball 4 with Baz on deck.
Man this team is Jekyll and Hyde.
Just lose the next one and take the seed you’re dealt. Bullpen guys on short pitch counts only. Playing more pitchers this week does nothing to help us prepare for the actual post season
RPI dropped to 17th now. Have to imagine a loss to ASU would drop that even further. A couple of wins could’ve solidified a top 8 seed but a couple of losses could lose them from hosting anything. Gotta win when it counts.
Better yet have position players pitch.
MC just can’t get his teams up for the games that matter. We used 5 arms in a 1st round loss. Be hard to get a top 8 seed if you can’t win your conference or your conference tourney. MC a good regular season coach but can’t hack it in the post-season? Time will tell.
That and I think his teams just don’t develop the focus and mentality to succeed in key moments.
There’s something to be said about making the dance as consistently as MC has. Never had success in the P12 tourney though. Granted, they’re not out of it yet but history is not on their side.
His teams aren’t clutch, simple as, and tend to choke when stakes are high. They’re good, but almost never good when it truly matters. Hence how the team has been good enough to come 2nd place in the PAC for three years straight, but the conference title has been allusive. Not to mention the time we blew a 9-10 run lead vs UCLA in the conference tournament and numerous other instances.
Off the top of my head, the only really clutch game in which we came through when it mattered on the big stage with MC at the helm was that regional game a while back where we were looking like we were going to choke the game away, but they brought Hjerpe in on limited rest as a closer/reliever and we got the win.
elusive
He’s a student. Still learning
Championship mentality, in a holistic manner throughout your ball club, is not something you can recruit for. It’s not a switch you can turn on. It’s a lag measure, not a lead measure. Meaning, it follows habits and trends of countless drills and execution. If follows continuous improvement initiatives of every player, done by all players (e.g. if one player has a routine ground ball error, all infields take extra fungous that next day). Extraordinary talent should just be the cherry on top of your expectation’s sundae. It just adds a little magic to make things a bit grander. It is nothing without a structure to stand on. We can recruit all the talent in the world and have the best player in the world (who arguably became that way through his own work with 3rd party training). I know less about pitching but the same system can be applied. Drills should be required, by the entire pen, multiplied by every walk and hit batter from the previous day. Everyone one of those pitchers should have to pitch to Bazz until they get him out. Have some fun competition on it. Why do I feel like this is obvious but not likely happening? I don’t feel like a culture of excellence can be found in that dugout, as there once was. Regardless of talent and wins. I have this day dream where Pat comes back in a culture / mentor role for regionals and stays for 2025 to reduce the transfer portal departures and increases recruiting that will be impacted the pac-12 extinction.
Is that you Case? Just kidding. I agree that the “excellence in all phases” mentality has certainly departed.
My guess is that MC is wanting to be the player’s coach type, and that means letting them hit away for big stats etc, but it also means less emphasis on detials that actually win tight games, such as fielding bunts, bunting, base-running, pitching to contact, defensive focus and strategic awareness.
Mike Parker has practically been pleading for a hit and run all year, or a bunt in tight game situations. And he is dong it almost out of habit, after so many years of calling Casey’s teams, but it has never manifested on the field or seemed to even be part of the thinking process for this staff.
Bunting is an art and it takes a desire to be good at it, and dedicated time. The same is true of fielding and pitching philosophically rather than only power. We have seen the shift from Casey’s style to the new era of Beaver baseball and a lot of us, Mike Parker included, are struggling to see the benefit when you can’t beat an 8th seed Stanford, or a bottom feeder Cal.
The fallout of MC and staff seems to be a much less focused team with apparent high end talents and no prospects of winning in big games when the chips are down against decently good pitching.
Oh well, my suspicion around the 6th inning was that some of these guys are already beginning to check out and think about their NIL offers from LSU, Texas, Tennessee and where they want to play next year before they get drafted.
MIIIIIITTTTCHHHH
This is the most frustrating beaver team I can remember. Been going to game for 40 plus years. I’ve seen bad baseball and great baseball. This year’s team is so up and down, when good they look Omaha good but when they are bad it looks like JC ball. That plus the lack of adjustments or improvement during the year coupled with dispassionate attitude they seem to show makes them hard to watch
Thank you for having a nuanced take. Its gets old seeing everybody generalize based on one games performance and outcome. Like you, I’ve seen this team play great and be locked in. I’ve seen them do everything thing a winning team should do. I’ve also seen them play like a jv highschool team. However, that is baseball. Its a sport of ups and downs. I am still hopeful because really they only had one sustained bad stretch that went two weeks. Other than that, they may have a bad game but they seem to bounce back for the next two. So depending on when you saw them, you may have a skewed view of how good this team can be.
Said this before Canham and Gipson are not good coaches they are managers that believe in analytics. Which only gets you what you have got so far with them as leaders.
If they can’t hit homeruns they don’t know what to do. Gipson taking offensive timeouts at the wrong times has proven unsuccessful. Not bunting, no hitting behind runners no fundamentals.
Proven when they interview Canham and he says he looks like a hitter. One of the dumbest comments ever.
You lose so much defense and pitch stealing with Weber you can see dorman yelling at him from dugout. The homerun to Moore was because Hunter had to serve it up because of no strike call on 2-1. Trosky worried about losing his spot to Caraway has him so tense it’s unbelievable. Mason is pretty much a lost cause for the season. Gipson has he had so messed up you can see the should I swing yep too late look in his eyes.
I only know I could understand PC’s interviews; MC’s, hardly a word.
MC sounds exactly like Norm McDonald, so I can’t really concentrate on anything he says, I am just waiting for the deadpan punchline that never drops, and then the interview is over…
Here’s Miiiiitttccchh after the game. In a delivery reminiscent of Tinkle’s “Go Hard!” admonition, he says “Toughen up!”.
https://archive.ph/VTTpq
It could’ve been worse than 2-1. Stanford left 11 on with 9 hits and 5 walks. Beavs with 3 hits and 5 walks. Pitching wasn’t great…only 4 k’s on the day but I think they should reasonably expect to win a game giving up only 2 runs. Hopefully this is a small setback but this is some of the concern some of us have been expressing since the beginning of the season with the focus of home runs and offense over the defense and pitching that we were used to with PC. It makes for fun headlines during the season but when you hit that slump in the short series and games that matter…look out.
It takes us back to the thread question. Why even care anymore?
It seems like the idea of winning is lost in the midst of analytics and NIL. So we have a staff that coaches to stats and draft stock obviously rather than honing the vast skill sets of this roster into a summation over individualization.
Because a 2-1 loss shouldn’t make you give up on a good team having a good season.
A 41-14 record in a baseball season is great. Our struggles have been all on the road which is strange no one talks about that. That is what the coaches I am sure trying to solve. Get this team as comfortable on the road as they are at home.
24-2 Home
8-2 Neutral
8-10 Away
Paints a pretty clear picture to me anyway that there is something we aren’t doing the same on the road.
Good point, TW
By the way, didja notice the plan to have more games on the road next year with the transition to independent?
even worse look when the article says the team was in stunned silenbce before Canham spoke with them. Maybe someone needs to steop upa lead apart from the coaches spoon feeding these guys after each loss. Is someone going to finally get ticked at the level of play and demand more of each other? Why is it up to the Pat Casey Head Coach Team Psychologist to right the ship with goofy phrases and some fatherly advice rather than the team just plain getting focused on the task at hand? It shouldn’t be that hard to realize this is the end of the line. It sounds silly to hear that this team is struggling to figure out what went wrong after such a dreadful effort.
i think that’s a big reason why so many of us are disappointed in the 2-1 loss. A good showing here could’ve solidified a top 8 seed and helped ensure less travel until Omaha. Now, a loss to ASU might possibly bump them out of a regional host.
Nice faceplant. This team has no focus…
Baseball is an odd game….get used to it. Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, and Oregon all losing too.
I think Oregon was the only team to have a close game….all others with solid beat down behind the wood shed.
All the more evidence that conference tournaments are crap.
It’s too close to the post season. Good teams dont want to burn up arms so they hope their underused bullpen guys can do enough to win. Bad teams have nothing to lose and play like it’s their final game.
Also, this has to be their 6 or 7th one run loss….
Here are the losses:
2/23 Arkansas 5-4
3/17 Utah 14-11
3/28 USC 2-1
3/29 USC 17-4
4/14 Stanford 11-10
4/17 Nevada 11-10
4/19 Cal 10-8
4/20 Cal 8-7
4/21 Cal 4-3
4/28 Oregon 7-1
4/30 Oregon 9-5
5/4 WSU 10-9
5/18 Arizona 4-3
5/23 Stanford 2-1
Beavs have lost 9 games by 1 run, and 5 of those games were well pitched games, giving up 5 runs or less should be a win with this team. Holmes blew saves at Cal twice with walk off homeruns. They came up short on a comeback at WSU, and had the game won at Arizona going into the bottom of the 9th.
Baseball is baseball and it is tought to win games, but the luck of the Beavs is all over this season once Carraway, Kasper, McDowell all went down, this team had some adjusting to do to navigate conference play. Dorman has had a collapse with his pitching staff. Based on these results, the bullpen has failed in half of the losses at least. The games they have been playing catch-up were Arkansas, USC, Utah, Oregon, but the bullpen imploded a few good starts.
The offensive approach hasn’t really adjusted all season either, so its not surprising they are a front-running team that can pile on when things are going well offensively.
Thanks, I had a feeling it was over 50% of the losses.
Since Zona won and secured their spot, does that mean an OSU win gets them to the semi-finals no matter the other outcomes?
If UA loses they bump Beavs as the 1-1 top seeded wildcard since Cal would
win that Pod at 2-0.
Stanford is already in from OSU’s pod. Oregons pod will be decided by Oregon vs USC, if USC wins they go at 2-0, if Oregon wins they go as the tie breaker highest seed among their pod.
So Beavs need to win and need UA to win, otherwise Cal, Stanford, USC/Oregon winner and UA are all in.
Beavs don’t win the spot if UA and OSU are both 1-1.
Gotcha. I forgot Cal beat UW. Thanks!
“The surprising setback, which came against a team that lost its final 10 games of the regular season and a freshman starting pitcher making just his sixth career start, was both humbling and potentially damaging.
…
But the 6-foot-4 right-hander worked out of trouble early and mowed through the vaunted Beavers’ lineup late, mixing a 96-mile per hour fastball with a strikeout slider. Volchko went six innings, striking out nine and allowing just two hits, in an outing he described as “by far the best” of his career. Stanford catcher Malcolm Moore — who belted a towering homer to right field in the fourth inning to give Stanford an early 1-0 lead — said the plan was for Volchko to go right at Oregon State hitters and, if nothing else, go down swinging.
…
For Joey, it was kind of just go after them,” Moore said. “I don’t know if there’s a lot of teams that have just gone after all of their hitters. We kind of just were like, ‘Hey, here we go. We’re going to give you our best stuff. We’re going to give you our best shot.’”
…
When asked if the discouraging performance was a wake-up call, Canham didn’t blink.
“It dang well better be,” he said. “I refuse to just say, ‘Eh, it’s an off day or just one of those days.’ I think we have more to give and we should have produced more today. It’s just a mentality thing, a belief.”
…
The good news for the Beavers is that they still have a puncher’s chance in the tournament. Stanford, which opened with a win over Arizona State on Tuesday, clinched a semifinal berth by going 2-0 in pool play. Oregon State plays the Sun Devils on Thursday, and if it wins — and improves to 1-1 — it would own the semifinal tiebreaker over eight of the nine teams in the field.

Anyone heard any updates on Caraway?
He’s fully dressed at least.
Are you widow peeking again?
Struggling here early on. Walks. Hit batter. Got picked off at 1st.
It’s more of a road game than a neutral site. Probably a bigger ASU crowd than they’ve had at home all year.
Beavs look shaken by the noise.
Gotta shut them up early
They better get used to it. Ever heard SEC crowds? Makes you want to punch a wall.
Another pick off at 1st. This team doesn’t want to be here
This really is starting to question Mitch’s leadership. Last year the pitching sucked but there was a lot of battle from the offense in the PAC-12 tourney. The at-bats yesterday and today are just non competitive. In a must win game Saturday to win the conference and the last 2 to secure a hosting spot, they have looked lifeless at the plate. Consecutive years where the team basically no shows in the biggest games. This looks like a team that’s going home in a regional no matter where it is.
Well said.
How is that Mitch’s fault? Baseball is a team sport but also an individual game. When I struggled at the plate, I didn’t blame the coaches because I could see what I was doing wrong with my approach, and it was on me to correct it. The coach could have told me anything, but I still needed to execute the corrections he gave me. This team has shown they can perform, so to me, that’s not a coaching issue; that’s a consistency issue, and it’s on the players to correct it. Slumps are part of the game; you just hope they can straighten it out when the tourney starts.
There is a bunch of whiny puddin-head mentality going around here.
It’s weaker than the melodrama they try and make out of one of the best college baseball teams in the country.
It’s extreme softness.
Bases juiced no outs. Not the for May. Team looks lost
Hate that the Pac12 network announcers are falling all over themselves to congratulate ASU’s program and coach as they transition to the Big12.
F those guys.
It’s propaganda at this point.
Hainline with an awful at bat. 1st and 3rd no outs and he bunts for strike 2 and watches strike 3. Playe approaches have been bad
Meanwhile, Arkansas eliminated from SEC tournament….2&BBQ
Because they didnt have a live feed in their dugout like they did in all their home games.
Now watch Arkansas will get rewarded with a super regional and OSU wont even earn a regional.
Pitching did it’s job today.
Hitters need more patience at the plate. They seem so anxious to put a ball in play rather than work the pitch count and wear down the other staff’s arms.
As for the tournament scenarios, is it basically down to the Beavs need a Cal loss to move on? I hate this tournament format
Luck o’ the Beavs says Arizona lets the bat boy pitch tonight so Cal can win and bump the Beavs out of the bracket.
A tournament where you have an incentive to throw a game.
Fitting for the Pac12
Apparently, the baseball team doesn’t care anymore!
A Nostradamus like title for this thread…
I tried to warn people about Miiitch. Remember that phase? It didn’t go very well…
You warned us. Not much we could do about it.
Looks like Ron Callan will have to learn some Portuguese to sing the Brazilian national anthem, Rueck picks up a transfer from Baylor.
A senior guard native of Brazil.
Eight scholarship players now, not counting a possible return of Dominika Paurova who is in the portal but hasn’t landed elsewhere ….yet.
https://archive.ph/z1nGi
Keljo credits a text from his Grandpa and Guerra says a session at Driveline made the difference for him at the plate today.
https://archive.ph/BjeO9
That whole story has a weird vibe and makes the Beavs seem kind of soft and shallow. Kumbaya and all but the win didn’t guarantee anything, so let’s all be overly congratulatory.
Keljo needs a text to be excited about a game he gets to play but otherwise would be too uptight to succeed?
Guerra decides to go overboard to Seattle on analytics and data all while MC says sometimes a guy just needs a few games to reset!? Why on earth did they continue to start him game after game then? Guerra realized he had some subtle bad habits in his swing?? No kidding, poor guy looked lost at the plate and struck out more times than he made contact over an 11 game stretch.
MC comes across as a supportive positivity mentor rather than a leader and head coach.
Maybe it’s Daschels writing style but that article makes me nauseous for where OSU baseball is headed.
Is it as simple as Mitch wanting to be too much of a buddy and not nearly enough of a hard nosed taskmaster?
Casey often said that he wasn’t gonna be friends with players until after they graduated.
Spot on here.
Guerra swing and hitting isn’t fixed. If you watch his swing after the homerun it’s same garbage that was going on in the 0-50 streak.
MC is absolute terrible leader, guys don’t look up to him as coach he just a good boy manager. You take offensive timeout to tell Reader to stand there and watch pitches?!? This after you have your 9 hitter bunt to get Bazzana walked knowing McDowell hurt again? Where is the baseball genius in this? You don’t small ball in game your losing to Stanford but you do in game your winning? After Smith had already had 1 one of the hits in previous at bats.
The only team in this tournament setup that can afford to lose a game is the #1 seed but you still trying to make a statement to the selection committee so you don’t want to lose.
MC and Gipson need to be shown the door before OSU baseball is any more of a dumpster fire that it’s going to be next year. All players will say they aren’t leaving now they don’t want to cause waves, but they all looking and getting ready. Look at football basketball boys and girls, softball doesn’t even have enough to field team.
Angry has always been right about MC
Cal up 3-0 early. Beavs should pack their bags for the Kentucky regional…
UA loss last week was the backbreaker for this year as a Beaver fan. In one inning the Beavs went from a likely Regional/Super regional host to going on the road and getting hosed again.
Not playing the 3rd game at USC was the back breaker. That game doesn’t get rained out and the Beavs are the regular season champs and a top 8 seed.
Kind of revisionist history since the Beavs were reeling form 2 bad losses to USC at that point. We now know that this version o Beaver baseball lacks the type of competitive fire to be certain they would have won the Sunday game.
I think it is just as likely they would have lost and been swept by USC. It was an early conference road series and the Beavs aren’t good on the road, and lack a killer drive to respond in those situations.
I figure the Beavs have 2-3 more games in whatever regional they go to but will not advance to a super.
If they do host at Goss, it may be a repeat of this weekend. They just don’t do well with pressure.
We know the bats go silent with a pitcher who sticks to a basic scouting report. Expect off speed early and good location fastballs late in counts. Pitch around Bazanna and take your chances with everyone else. That’s all Stanford did.
MC and Gipson refuse to adjust the offensive approach so it is a simple scouting report all season.
And then we get to watch half of the roster transfer by next Sunday.
OSU feeling good about the OLine(?):
“Is Joshua Gray likely to move inside to guard: “I wouldn’t say that. I think that we’re moving pieces around and trying to find the best starting five. Josh hasn’t been able to be out there yet. So, we haven’t worked in there. I think we’ve got some really good options at tackle. Like really, really good. Guys that maybe Oregon State fans haven’t seen, but I think we’ll be good at it and can do it.”
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2024/05/oregon-state-has-options-at-offensive-tackle-like-really-really-good-spring-position-review.html
Please be true…
7-1 Bears Top of 5.
Arizona has no incentive to win this game. It was over before it started.
Saves our arms and we move on with a win and two good pitching shows.
It’s just a matter of putting it all together. They have all the tools. They just need to remember it’s a game, and they should be having fun, not tightening up.
Pretty big event today on the NCAA legal front. D1 teams agreed to a settlement in the court case to back pay athletes who missed out on NIL. And simultaneously agreeing to allow schools to pay athletes directly going forwars.
But they’re still going to fight to have congress protect the schools from having to classify athletes as employees.
If you’re still donating to an NIL collective, you may want to reconsider. Those things are pointless. The schools are going to start hitting you up harder than ever before to donate directly and pay their bills.
Article link:
https://twitter.com/PeteThamel/status/1793788795323617538?t=rk2D5C11NLCglaPqpq2-dw&s=19
Thamel lightly hits on the eventual reality of many sports being cut in order to pay football players. But since he works for ESPN, he can skip any analysis of the true ramifications for the wider group of athletes beyond the P5 football/basketball athletes.
That $20 salary cap for the schools will save the haves and kill the have nots. The haves can cap out and then use NIL collectives to payout everything above the cap to their revenue earning athletes.
The have nots won’t be able to even meet the $20M cap.
And the conferences with the lions share of the media revenue(SEC/Big10) will barely feel the impact of the $20M cap.
But what constitutes pay and institutional spending?
SJSU spends $21M on athletics just from the school. Several schools spend much more.
All the perks of being a collegiate athlete aren’t cheap. Brennan talking about getting a third meal for his players costs money. I think we all know school and adjusting to the work force would have been a lot easier, if we got two meals, books and fees, housing, tuition, health care, and many intangibles covered while we were in school.
What’s the difference between us working to pay those bills and them doing the same?
According to the lawyers, the difference is in the fact that the school earns revenue from those SAs being there. I doubt OSU earned a damn thing from me attending the school. That is unless they got the revenue from my on-campus parking tickets.
Those damn parking violations….
They got a good share from me too.
My employers have all been profitable due to my and my co-workers’ efforts.
And we were compensated for that.
Student athletes are compensated as well, because they do the same thing we do for our employers–work.
How much revenue is distributed to each sport is already organically built in with past trends and scholarship allocations.
It’s really only an accounting trick that makes them amateurs. They’re being compensated for the work they’re doing now.
They say it will take months to hammer out the specifics, but that’a a good point Jack. Are they going to summarize scholarship, meals, room, books and take that expense out of the $20M? Or is this in addition to what is normally covered by the team?
Do the schools meet somewhere in the middle and cut extra perks that’s arent covered by a scholarship?(no more free barber shop!)
Seems like the only way this will go is to see schools cut as many non-revenue generating sports programs as possible.
I’d like to see the Beavers “get hot” in the NCAA tourney – but they seem more likely fold in a tough spot. Canham was right – the team lacks grit. As good as they are, they could use some piss and vinegar.
Anyone figure out what Kliavkoff did to earn a $500k bonus in the last year of his deal? That’s on top of $3m plus. Was it the record revenues (which somehow led to smaller distributions to schools), the legal mess of the Comcast overpayment? Seriously.
https://www.sportico.com/leagues/college-sports/2024/pac-12-high-revenue-payouts-sank-fy23-1234780252/
I don’t know what is such a big difference between home and away for the baseball team, but dam, they sure looked awful with the plate approaches and mental mistakes yesterday. Guttsy win and props to May for battling and Keljo for dealing. If he can pitch like that from here on out, would be a huge boost for this bullpen. The saving grace for this squad is to have a regional at home. Hopefully the win vs ASU is enough to guarantee that. I could see a situation though where they make the Corvallis regional the toughest one with the Beavs limping in. Once they have to play on the road, I think it’ll game over.
They make too many mistakes to win the high stakes games in high stakes situations. Those base running errors have been happening all year and to have them in back to back innings this late in the season is ridiculous. The Beavs faithful were pretty loud for the first runner who safely got back to first after those 2 running mistakes. I will say, the strike zone didn’t seem to be that great for the Beavs and better for ASU, but I do think it was consistent for the Beavs so they needed to adjust for those types of pitches and they never really did. There was a lot of bitching at the refs, some of it deserved, but never did see many adjustments being made.
The fact that this team can’t bunt and do some of the little fundamental things has me wondering what they do practice on. These guys can’t manufacture a run with small ball to save their life. Might be 2 guys on the squad who can bunt everyone else just throws the bat out there and hopes to make contact. Hainline was a great example of that yesterday. Awful attempt and plate appearance in a pressure situation. I hope being at home gives them some momentum, but with 2 very subpar offensive performances against the bottom dwellers in a bad P12 is very concerning to say the least.
You left out the team fielding is 10th out of an 11 team conference which is staggeringly bad historically for OSU.
In fact, I believe that Colorado could find a better fielding baseball team if they had open tryouts and just started a program this week. That is how little fielding appears to be to MC and staff.
The offense has masked a downward trend in every vital statistic other than offensive numbers.
Dorman somehow still has a job.
Gipson never switches the offensive strategy to exert pressure on opponents beyond the threat of a homerun. I don’t remember a hit and run all season, or a squeeze bunt or any form of gamesmanship from batters at the plate. Just step in and hack away or watch another called 3rd strike. All season and no change.
Yes, defense has been just brutal. Trosky and Hainline made great plays yesterday, Bazanna as well except for the 1 throw. Interesting that we can’t find a true 1st base. Kreig was a pitching recruit initially and Guerra hasn’t been able to find a defensive spot and is at 1st by default.
Guerra was recruited at 3rd but has no lateral movement or control of his arm. Krieg is better defensively but wasn’t a good option offensively but now they both don’t have any offensive ability.
Guerra with the driveline help is a joke. They do have facility in Arizona, yes Travis went there but he knew a lot more before he went and has unbelievable eye so even bad swing he can hide.
Trosky could be great SS for next year IF he goes back to being a base hitter and stop trying to hit Homeruns, problem is the only thing MC & Gipson see is power. Take a look at Weber he is absolutely horrible behind the plate and pitchers don’t like him back there, but MC thinks he looks like a hitter (lol). Currently like 1-20 with 2 ROE but he hits the ball hard.
Elijah is to tight because he thinks he needs to hit homeruns also if he would go be a setup guy his stats would fly through the roof.
The errors are exactly what MC and Gipson have changed the recruiting to. Lack of baseball knowledge or the ability to get better in the field.
Pitching is tough these teams seem to be hit so hard with injuries you can’t get anything consistent. Dorman leash is so short and hands tied behind his back by MC it’s horrible.
They are very talented pitching staff but between injuries and not trusting Weber. They just collapse under pressure. They can’t get the marginal calls so they have to serve it up. Weber has caught 9 or 10 of the losses he should be a DH but MC has too many DH players.
Regions are going to be tough. Pitching for 3 days should be easy but it depends on how fast they get into bullpen. May had off day in Arizona Thursday which isn’t a normal. Nelson threw well and him and Smith connected. Would love to know what Smith said to Bridger as he looked sharp and confident compared to game at Arizona that they lost.
Defense and baserunning is a great indicator how effective a coach is.
“The fact that this team can’t bunt and do some of the little fundamental things has me wondering what they do practice on. These guys can’t manufacture a run with small ball to save their life.”
Makes me wonder how any of these guys who do transfer will react to a different, more fundamentally focused head coach/system.
https://www.si.com/college/colorado/buffs-social/shilo-sanders-files-for-bankruptcy-to-absolve-11-8-million-judgement-tied-to-assault-
Poor Sanders family. They have so many people hating on them because of jealousy. We all know Shilo and Shedeur are both humble young men who have a humble father as the example of go to be good citizens and even better teammates.
It probably all racism at this point because so many in the media don’t want the Sanders family to succeed.
All sarcasm and not meant to be taken as a statement of support for Shilo, Shedeur or Deion. They are all classless attention seekers.
Wait… are we supposed to care?
i just got lindy’s college football 2024 and u guys are 76th overall
but here the crazy part the razorbacks are 45 overall the razorbacks will be 4-8 this season
i will get athlon in around 2 weeks and phil in 5 or 6 weeks
btw u guys are in the very back of the mag with ND uconn umass
u guys are between 20-40 overall
I couldn’t resist, I have the Arizona/Stanford game on as I heard it’s the very last live event that will be telecast on the P-12 Network. I can’t say it was a great network, but I watched a lot of Beav sports on it. I wish the Beavs were playing in this game for a fitting end, but things don’t always work out exactly as we would hope. The only constant is that I will still be watching the Beavs no matter the network.
100!
Care to get pickled? I’d be surprised if this gets much participation, but it could provide some embarrassing internet fodder:
“The Portland Pickles, paying respect to the demise of the conference, announced Friday they will hold a “Pac-2 Memorial Night” to give Oregon State and Washington State fans a place to “drown your sorrows together.” The baseball team is encouraging those fans to represent their respective schools by wearing team gear to “help mourn the last two teams in the Pac-2 Conference.”
The “Pac-2 Memorial Night” is scheduled for June 3 at Walker Stadium in Southeast Portland.”
https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/2024/05/portland-pickles-to-hold-a-pac-2-memorial-night-to-recognize-the-demise-of-the-pac-12-conference.html
I heard about it as my youngest son’s Rugby team practices at the park. Also, there is supposedly going to be a 10-cent beer night this season. That sounds fraught with negative complications!
I’m confused, is it a memorial for the Pac-2 or the Pac-12? The Pac-2 is very much alive, no need to remember them. They should memorialize the Pac-12 and the 10 who left it. They’ll soon be forgotten.
D1 Baseball seems to think OSU will host regardless, but what’s the likelihood that if Arizona wins the conference tournament the committee bumps OSU out of a host in favor of Zona, since they’d be both regular season and tournament champions?
Most sites I’m seeing still project us being regional hosts. Time will tell.
Right now, D1 has Beavs hosting Wake Forest/St Johns/Cal Baptist.
Based on current RPI, Wake is the only one close to the Beavs and they have just as poor a road record as do the Beavs.
RPI: Wake 10, Beavs 17
RPI 26 Anteaters being sent to Georgia (RPI 6) along with Stetson (110 ) and Ga Tech (47)
Nobody worth anything cares about conference championships.
I guess the hope is that one of the top eight seeds loses, opening up a spot to host a super regional.
People keep talking about us hosting a super regional or not when the real question is can we even make a super regional? The team is so inconsistent, and for the last month and a half or so, the trend has been that they play down to competition. I don’t want it to happen, but I would not be surprised if the team went 0-2 in the regional.
troll
““I just know how it works. Some schools get padded RPIs because of who they play against in conference play. And there’s a lot of teams out West that are really good — Irvine, Santa Barbara, ourselves and a handful of others — that have fantastic venues and really deserve opportunities to host. I just think what teams out West have done year in and year out deserve some notoriety and an opportunity to host, as opposed to just keyholing things into one region.”
…
“I do believe we have an amazing club, very worthy of hosting,” Canham said before his Pac-12 tournament opener. “When we’re healthy, which we are, we’re really stinking good. And I think that has to come into consideration, too. When we lost some of our games, we weren’t at full steam. At the same time, our guys handled their business really well. We’ve won a lot of big games and when we’ve lost, they’ve all been tight. I think we’re as good as any team in the country.”
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2024/05/oregon-state-awaits-ncaa-baseball-tournament-fate-after-early-pac-12-exit-will-beavers-host-a-regional.html
They’re definitely good with a lot of stink to them.
It’s college baseball.
Everyone has glaring flaws and inconsistency.
But when your true dregs in the conference are Tier 1 wins (or occasional losses), something stinks more than the flaws of the individual teams.
From red lobster to college sports, private equity coming in:
“Formally announced on Wednesday, College Athletic Solutions says it seeks to be a “purpose-driven, dedicated capital and business-building platform for public and private university athletic departments across the United States.” It bills itself as a “trusted advisor” to the people leading college sports through these turbulent times, “equipping the strategies and resources to operate efficiently while allowing their athletic program to compete at the highest level.” ”
…
“Why actually do the work to steer the NCAA toward a fair, lawful model when you can be like Jim Delany and cry for years about the dangers of professionalizing college sports as the Big Ten commissioner, then retire with a multi-million dollar golden parachute and lucrative “consulting” deal? ”
College sports and the administrators who ran it into the ground have never been forced to reckon with their gluttony. Now here comes private equity, ready to shovel more money into their pockets, and some of them are undoubtedly going to take it, pushing off the IOUs beyond their own professional expiration dates.
That’s how college sports becomes the next Red Lobster – cheddar biscuits not included.”

Here’s a good question to ponder on a Saturday morning: were guys like Pankey and the Krebs better or worse than the current recruits we’re getting (i.e. since essentially becoming a Mountain West school)?
Worse.
C’mon, Pankey and Krebs were so bad, and they were the beginning of Riley’s post Gilstrap recruiting efforts so not much to say. We only were beginning to realize how much Gilstrap meant to the talent evaluation that led to low level recruits who somehow became all conference during Riley’s early years.
Riley leaned so much on Gilstrap’s ability to evaluate film and find under the radar players that his loss was the downfall of the program recruiting for over a decade after his death.
JS staff was the first time we saw a real effort towards some form of consistent player evaluation since Gilstrap. I think Bray knows linebackers much better than late Riley/Banker era recruiting did. I’m not worried about Bray’s ability to spot talent, it is the ability to hold on to talent once it has been proven that will be the concern.
Pankey may have missed his calling as a wrestler, he was always on the ground anyway.
I didnt watch that era very closely, but wasn’t Pankey coming off some type of major ACL injury?
Was he bad in addition to the injury? Or just bad due to the injury?
Starting with the 2009 Vegas Bowl loss to BYU, it was real bad for a couple of years. What was shocking about Pankey in 2010 was how clear it was to even casual observers that he just couldn’t play at the speed of the game, but it went on all season long and they seemingly had no one else that they could replace him with.
Then in 2011 they didn’t have anyone to come in after Quizz as they relied on a FR Malcom Agnew and Jordan Jenkins to carry the RB load. It just didn’t add up with how well they had recruited and developed the previous handful of seasons. Then there was the Ryan Katz debacle, and the Jovan Stevenson “situation”.
They recovered with Mannion, Cooks, Poyer, Wheaton, DJ Alexander and co. in 2012, but only to give the Alamo bowl away to Texas in what would have been a 10-3 Top 10 season.
In the end Riley peaked in 2006-2009 even with Banker digging his heels into the Tampa 2 with mobile QB’s running around our DE’s like it was pop warner.
Probably worse but who cares? We’re going to lose to Hole anyways.
I never like piling on individual players. They were recruited and beat out others to earn the starting job. Blame it on the coaches if the wrong players were recruited and started but don’t attack guys that PLAYED for Oregon State.
Related to influx of money into college sports via NIL etc. Really deserving of a longer article (perhaps another outlet will look into it over a longer period of time in the future):
https://www.espn.com/espn/betting/story/_/id/40166862/ncaa-1-3-star-athletes-receive-abuse-threats-bettors
How long before the sport folds? I give it ten years.
Less than that IMO
There’s too much debt
Nah, people have too much invested in it to let it die. It will continue on in some capacity, but it will likely only do so at programs that have donors willing to keep it alive and lower divisions. The sport as we knew it is pretty much dead already.
I don’t think it ever folds but I do see significant changes and further division splits coming.
I am a bit worried about the survival of Olympic sports and how Team USA will supplement the losses that are likely coming in those sports.
Eyewitnesses reported that the left field temporary bleachers are being installed as we speak at Goss. Surely being done with some inside knowledge about hosting
Lo and behold the Beavers are hosting a regional
lol @ studentbeaver for downvoting this thread
Was there really any doubt about hosting a regional? I’m more disappointed that too many WTF losses will cost them a Super Regional.
I don’t see us hosting a Supers. Shit the bed too many times
That’s up to the opposite region now
Kentucky… where it will be 80 degrees with intermittent thunderstorms over the weekend.
The PAC 12 tournament was a complete disaster for the conference based on RPI. Arizona wins the tournament but took a hit to their RPI in the process. To win the regular season and conference tournament but not host due to RPI is laughable.
It’s interesting that EPSN hyped the final live Pac-12 sporting event last night, but as I understand the P-12 will exist for two more years, so won’t the Beav/Wazzu football game be a live P-12 event? Of course, I understand it’s semantics to some degree, but I’m sure ESPN wants to make sure the stake is through the heart. The P-12 Network goes dark at the end of June, but will still carry on as a production company on a smaller level.
Okay seriously who is the serial downvoter? Out yourself
Who cares?
I’m not a part of the “like” generation. I don’t get it.
Me myself and I care

Hosting
Good news. Finally a break goes our way. Just win now.
3 west coast host sites. Beavs, UA and UC Santa Barbara.
I’m shocked.
UC Irvine has to get sent somewhere. They’ll be a dangerous 2 seed
They‘ve been so RPI heavy, it was nice to see other parameters being considered, but it makes you wonder if OSU would have been a top 8 if they swept Zona and won the tournament
No, I don’t think so. Was surprised they almost did not host a regional. Don’t think they would have been a top 8 seed even if they won the pac-12 tourny.
You asked for it. We get UC irvine, in addition to Tulane and Niccols State.
Maybe those 2 schools can share a flight
Irvine has some really nice fans and, yes, they are a dangerous 2 seed.
Watched them take a super in Corvallis when the Beavs were in a late season funk.
We may see some small ball after all, just hope it isn’t enough to overcome the home field advantage that is so very real for the Beavs.
CORRECTION: Guess it was not a super, just regional. 1b coach Nate Esposito was part of that Beav squad. Here’s some of what was written about that series in 2014:
Wild pitches, more inept offense that again resulted in the inability to get hits in the clutch that would generate runs (Oregon St. was 1-12 with runners in scoring position in their last dozen such situations at the end of the season), dubious pitching decisions (pitching coach Nate Yeski twice pulled a pitcher who had just been effective, getting an out, to go with a different pitcher who immediately did something that led to an Anteater run, in a game the Beavers lost by 2 runs), and finally, hitting into a double play with the tieing runs on base, combined to do in Oregon St……………UC-Irvine improved to 38-23, and will set off for Stillwater, having overall out-pitched, out-hit, and out-coached Oregon St.

Yup. Was about 10 years ago. OSU was the no 1 national seed. The deciding game a kid named Elliot Surrey (southpaw) was the starting pitcher for UCI. I’d watched him pitch for the Corvallis Knights the previous summer and knew the Beavs were gonna have a tough time with him.
Irvine made it to Omaha if I’m remembering correctly.
They did make it to Omaha, swept the other OSU to win their super.
Hosting a regional is better than not, but doesn’t a 15-seed feel a little dismissive?
Doesn’t bother me, it’s the sloppy play and lack of consistency that bother this ol’ Beav!
Arizona has an RPI 13 spots lower than Oregon State, were largely crushed by them in a series at home, won 1 series all year against a team that made regionals and none in conference play. Them being seeded better than Oregon State is horrible. Of course the committee decides RPI isn’t as important when it benefits Oregon State lol
Ahh… National Guard with a finger-four flyover.
Stay safe today.
Just saw them over my neighborhood too
Bill Walton has passed. What a life. RIP
Was wondering if something was happening with his health because Roxy Bernstein specifically gave him a hat tip during the final Pac12 broadcast sign off.
RIP Bill
I just read that he had been battling cancer, and I don’t know if that had been disclosed.
What a sad day. Bill live an incredible life and he will be missed. While I know some didn’t live his style, I always enjoyed his enthusiasm for the game and his love for the pac-12 Conference and Coach John Wooden. Thank you for bringing the one NBA to P-Town. Also, Rafael Nadal may have walked off centre court for the last time at Roland Garros in the French Ooen. What a class act even in defeat today against a very good opponent in the first round. At least, he will still has a puncher’s shot when the Olympics roll around in a few more months at Roland Garros.
I really liked him as an announcer. Was always positive, pro-Beav in a fair way, and loved the Conference. Just a really great, positive guy.
Spot on…..a positive guy!
He really did seem to enjoy his life.
While some disagree, I thought his factoids about the PNW in general added to his part in broadcasts.
He will be missed by many.
RIP
Funny how bike riding makes some positive and others just angry……..LOL
Was he a big cyclist? I don’t remember that but appreciate it. Today we did 65 miles on the hottest day of the year. Definitely feeling that one.
https://bikeforhumanity.com/bill-walton-message/
Awesome. Love him even more.
I remember a video of him (probably on YouTube) of him cycling around with Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead. There’s a story that he actually rode his bike by himslef to a victory parade after the Blazers won the title and the crowd just took it from him in their excitement, but he eventually got it back.
How ironic that he dies the same weekend as the PAC12 dies. Larry Scott killed them both.
“The conference of champions”. I’m not sure how many times I heard that over the years from Walton. You gotta think the demise of the Pac12 broke that guys heart a little. RIP.
He was one of the earliest to raise concern and urge caution, when initial discussions about the conference breaking up first became public.
That letter by him was among the better written pieces I had read recently.
Here’s the letter:

OLive runs this (admittedly stupid) article on Lillard resenting younger players winning a title before him:
“Usually I’ll be pulling for the team that already won a ring before so nobody will win one before me. But all four of these teams … whoever win … somebody’s gonna get their first one before me this year, no matter who wins.”
Lillard admittedly is struggling with the fact that at least one player who is younger and with less experience than him will win a NBA championship. Lillard just completed his first season with the Bucks and his 12th season overall in the NBA.
“I become a little hater toward the end,” he added.”
Seems like a bit of a contrast to former Blazer Walton….

So the Beavs regional is paired with the Kentucky regional? I’m guessing it could be worse. Obviously Kentucky is good, but they’ve never been to Omaha.
I was just looking at the bracket and saw the same thing. Much better than being matched to Tennessee, Arkansas or Texas A&M.
The Beavs are 5 wins from Omaha. Do we think they can do it?
As Bill said above, “That’s up to the opposite region now”.
Stay in Corvallis and 5 wins is entirely possible; leave and I’d not bet on it.
Dang… Mrs. Sweaty is from Lexington. Wish we had more time to plan a trip out there for this. UK facilities are all first rate and the whole athletic complex is beautiful.
That aTm regional is brutal.
Idea of Utah, Beavs and WSU going to ACC circulating on X and reddit. Maybe with acouple more west coast teams creating a wests coast pod
Utah already said it’s bullshit.
I’m skeptical. Would ACC give Utah a full share after handing out peanuts to Cal/Stanford? I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to happen if FSU/Clemson leaves. I don’t think the SEC or the B10 has said they would take them unless there are some back channels negotiations going on.
It is self evident that back channel negotiations have been going on for a long time for a select few.
Select few is the key phrase. 20 universities and a TV network controlling the future of college football.
“…. unless there are some back channels negotiations going on.”
Never.
By the way, just rewatched “Blue Mountain State” on Netflix, they had an episode where they tried to explain who the NCAA was and what they actually did…pretty funny series if you haven’t tried it yet.
Saw it on netflix, loved that series. Haven’t watched since it premiered, my taste in shows may have matured since then so I just want to let it be and not ruin it for myself.
Party at the goat house!!
What a terrible decision that would be for Utah.
I think it’s a good move for the money.
The ACC makes more than the Big XIIIIII. And they would make even more by adding a market in SLC, because their TV deal relies on linear access and they get guaranteed money for every new market, ostensibly to pay the new members. What they did with Cal. Ford, and SMU was take most of that money and distribute it among themselves or other expenses… like maybe a new Conference headquarters.
Utah wants to be associated with the West Coast. Adding Portland, Seattle, and maybe San Diego and Phoenix would add significant value to their deal. These schools do value being connected to these markets for another reason. They are the major financial centers, and they can host individuals or groups who would be interested in funding grants for their schools–the whole “front porch” concept.
Adding the Pac 2 also brings more than just market value. We can negotiate relief of their (Cal,St,Ut, and maybe Az schools) exit fees, if they bargain in good faith on our behalf. NCAA credits would be added to the ACC. And they won’t have to pay us for production of their events, if that was going to be an option, assuming the network is used as further leverage. I’m thinking some of their fans are a little envious of us having the OTA distribution we will get next year, and having the ability to produce those events is just a miracle, in the end. No other conference ending left the “unwanted” with the ability to brand themselves and to offer the same services for anyone else in need of production. No other conference would do so now, if they fell apart tomorrow. It’s absolutely wild to think this is the way it turned out. Short-term thinking led to some stupid decisions.
We’re keeping the Rose Bowl money, though. I’m thinking none of this will officially happen for a couple years, if at all, and we still need to keep the lights on.
I don’t think we would see anyone making a decision until next February, when ESPN has the ability to alter their TV deal or extend it exclusively.
But if Virginia, North Carolina, FSU and Clemson leave, it would tank the ACC’s value and then Utah is stuck.
I think it’s in reaction to FSU’s lawsuit. Remember they claim that not adding Portland and Seattle to their portfolio of markets is a financially poor decision by their conference leadership, and that’s one of the reasons they want out.
To be clear, the source sounds like it’s coming from ACC sources, not Utah. But I wouldn’t be surprised to find out they’re still talking to the Bay Area schools.
The ACC just had their spring meeting, and it sounds like FSU was one of the proponents of the idea in concept.
One does have to wonder if it’s a plea for better overall competition, or a play for more uneven distributions in their coffers… maybe both.
Regardless, it would save a ton on travel costs for the schools staring down that barrel. And those schools would be connected to California, once again, where most of their wealthy boosters live and work.
And I really get the sense UNC likes being the center of the Conference, with all championships played in Charlotte. NC itself makes a lot of money on that alone, and pissing off all the people who benefit from it is just taking a dump in your own backyard.
I don’t know that UVA adds any value to the B1G or SEC To be honest, I don’t think Clemson does, either. They seem to be on the backside of their dominant run.

It’s all speculation at this point.
The ACC has to act or risk becoming the Pac 12. Right now, we’re the only freebies with any value. So we’ll be mentioned in any possible contingency plans. Expect some counter-contingency from the Big XIIIIII involving possible moves there to be floated. Keep people interested in the outcome until something is actually decided.
I’m wondering if the ACC was having their talk and we came up in the discussion as a possible future add, and FSU said something along the lines of, “Well, if we add them, why didn’t we add Utah when we had the chance?”
And then the rumors became a game of telephone. Or maybe it was a true conversation about strategy. No way to know right now.
It also reminds me of that interview with the former FOX exec who said something like, “The goal is to have all the sports available on one format,” for basically a monopoly.
ESPN has only the Bay Area and parts of the Four Corners in the West. That’s not competitive with FOX, who is only locked out of the South. besides some partial access with the Big XIIIIII. FOX has all the Western content it wants, but ESPN is losing all but Cal and Stanford. ASU, Utah, and Arizona all like night games, I think. Partly because of the weather, but I think they’re accustomed to that time slot and just like it. So maybe that’s how they plan to fill that time slot.
But it would be more valuable to ESPN to actually control those markets and grab the rest of the Coast to compete in those markets, lest they become out of sight, out of mind in markets they will need in the streaming future.
The way the ACC kicker is structured, it gives both them and ESPN incentive to keep expanding to gain control of all those markets.
It’s at least a fun thought experiment, at least.
Brief article on ILBs, expected to be a strength:
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2024/05/oregon-state-inside-linebackers-promising-because-they-can-run-and-theyre-physical-spring-position-review.html
Sullivan was one of my favorites from this recruiting class. Jordan was definitely hit or miss in his somewhat limited time last season, but he showed good potential. Hopefully he can iron out the wrinkles.
Thank god we are playing at home for this 1st round. Road Beavs aren’t great and the mental errors and lack of fundamental baseball that was still on display at the P12 Tourney is unfortunate.
What gives me hope:
1) Playing at Goss
2) May/Kmatz/Holmes/Mundt
3) Offense…when they’re not slumping
4) Lattery and Keljo looked very solid in their last appearances…we need those 2 plus 1 or 2 more to give strong, effective innings
What’s scary:
1) Defense – Worst fielding % in our regional and ended 9th in the P12. We’re screwed if offense is slumping and it comes down to defense and fundamentals
2) Mental errors. Absolutely wild the 2 pick-off outs that happened in the P12 tourney. It’s been an issue all year and to still happen this late…yikes.
3) Can’t execute fundamentals…particularly bunting. Have 2 guys on the team that can reliably bunt the ball. It was laughable watching Hainline bunt during his at-bat in the P12 Tourney. Bazz and McDowell can bunt and at times Reeder/Talt have been able to get one down but really you’ve got 2 reliable guys that can do the small ball stuff at the plate
4) Bullpen depth. Gotta feel good about May/Kmatz as a 1/2 punch as the starters and the job that Holmes and Mundt have done this year. If Lattery and Keljo can pitch like they did last week, that would be a huge help to this bullpen. Without those 2, it’s not good.
All in all, I don’t think being the 15th overall seed is a major slight considering where the RPI ended up, the struggles away from Goss and the fact we couldn’t win either P12 regular season or Tourney titles. It does look a bit weird to be so low but yet hold a top 10 rating, but I think the rating is more based on how high we entered the year being so highly ranked and playing well enough to not drop drastically. Perhaps a national seed in the 12 or 13 range should’ve been more appropriate, but I’m not surprised on where we ended up. What are some of the other strengths/weaknesses you all feel are worth noting?
This team hasn’t shown they have the stomach or the balls for the big moments. Don’t know if it’s lack of leadership or what
“…other strengths/weaknesses you all feel are worth noting?”
Maybe Trent Caraway fits into one of those categories:
Strength……he could come on strong and live up to the hype.
Weakness….Miiittch could stay with him too long if he isn’t really ready; not a lot of time left to show patience.

Curious about the 19 players hitting the portal from the softball team. This wasn’t a great season, so I imagine more than a few were “advised” by Berg to seek options elsewhere, but the weird thing is with softball, I doubt there is much if any NIL money in play for any of the players, I doubt they’ll get more of a scholarship at another school, and it isn’t like there is a “next level” after college you need to worry about. Do you want to play in the Big 12 and deal with the travel hassles? Make it tough on the folks to see you play? Don’t know how many would get more playing time in another conference either.
Gotta believe this is more of just the “this isn’t what I signed up for” sentiment playing out. These players came to OSU with a specific vision of what that meant – now that’s changing so these players are going to jump into the portal to see what their options are. I’m sure it will be the same after the baseball season ends.
I talked to one of the players a couple weeks back to see if something else was going on, but the response was more that personally this was about going somewhere that the player can meet her career goals and right now OSU doesnt offer that. Didnt say specifically what those goals were, and also prefaced it by saying she can only speak for her own situation. But didnt give the sense that it was a coaching issue. Sounded more like it was about not wanting to play against the WCC teams next year. Which is similar to our WBB team
I have a close friend whose daughter is on the team and is in the portal. She said the WCC has little impact on her decision but noted the culture is broken and coaching situation isn’t positive. She wouldn’t go into great detail but said that it’s been a “shit show” since she arrived on campus 2 years ago. Also said that there likely would have been a lot of transfers this year even if P12 survived. I think this situation is different than the WBB situation where conference affiliation and TVO leaving were the biggest drivers.
Could have been that my contact was being political and careful about what she commented on.
Going somewhere that allows her to meet her career goals could be a nice way of saying “it’s been a shit show”
I think that’s probably fair. My contact was also trying to be careful with what she shared. My impression is that there are a number of factors contributing to the bad culture and large number of transfers. UW softball has 7+ in the portal. I won’t be surprised if softball at Oregon state is cut in the next few years. In fact, I could envision half a dozen programs closing shop soon.
Wasn’t our team pretty successful very recently?
Title IX is going to hammer athletic departments if women’s sports like softball are being forced to shut down. NIL money to football and basketball should, in theory, require massively larger investment in women’s sports. The math doesn’t seem to add up.
Hmmmm, Seattle Times Sports has a headline:
“No one is willing to explain 7 player softball exodus.”
What a shitshow…
BTW That was for UW’s softball team, experiencing significant turnover too…maybe they don’t want B10 travel and weather….
Was reading a recent Ross Dellinger article about the recent NCAA NIL lawsuit settlement and the agreed upon plan moving forward where teams will have the ability to pay athletes directly with a cap on NIL payments.
It sounds like money from collectives would be considered 3rs party NIL and exempts from the cap.
So schools have already found loopholes where they can bring the NIL collectives in house, but still categorize it as 3rd party.
So basically, schools will have full control over donated NIL money from fans and be able to spend it as they wish.
There’s just nonway to regulated this stuff, especially when the group in charge of regulation has no ability to punish schools for circumventing outside rules put in place.
And the longer this stays a shit show, the less people will care about the product.
It’s the Wild West and until it becomes above board, meaning players are clearly and identified as employees followed by them forming a union and implementing a CBA, nothing can be done about any of it.
Serious changes are coming but they’re nearly impossible to predict right now.
If I were in the B1G or SEC and not a clear power I wouldn’t feel safe.

Ass holes!
Once can be shrugged off as a disgusting outlier. Twice is habit. Can’t believe Scholz when he says it’s not representative of UO students.
Ah, Shasta… Some of the best fuzzy memories of my college years. But, we always did a pretty good job of cleaning up.
University of Oregon Pigs
When I went to OSU in late 90s, a large group of us went to an area near Lake Billy Chinook. Got invaded by UO frat and sorority that absolutely trashed the place. Luckily my parents have a place at 3 Rivers with a utility trailer so me and several friends plus my dad spent several hours pulling garbage out of a desert spring and the surrounding area, loading the trailer and stacking at garbage stations at the Cove. My mom took before and after pics and sent to UO administration office and frat/sorority house. Never got a response. If we only had social media back then
Beavs picked up a new kicker today from their favorite JUCO, College of San Mateo
https://x.com/Caleb_ojeda2/status/1795863116921680028?t=6w_fjpzdk6xHVGAAwTqXQw&s=19
“Junior college kicker Caleb Ojeda has committed to Oregon State.
Ojeda is a transfer from College of San Mateo, where he played two years. Last season, Ojeda hit 10 of 14 field goal attempts, his longest successful kick measuring 47 yards. Ojeda was also 71 of 73 on extra point attempts.
Ojeda also has credentials as a punter. As a freshman in 2022, Ojeda punted 49 times, averaging 41 yareds per kick, with a long of 63 yards.
Ojeda received an offer from Oregon State two weeks ago. Ojeda also several FCS offers, including Morehead, Missouri State, Bryant, Campbell and Mississippi Valley State.”

As long as we wasn’t calling a basketball game towards the end, I agree. Easily top 10 to sit down and have a beer with.
I liked him as an announcer. What was the issue? He added a ton of “color” that you don’t find in the standard, boring announcers.
I am with you Angry. I always enjoyed him as an announcer. Yes, he would go off on tangents about all the Dead shows he had seen, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. As you said, all the other announcers were boring and brought nothing of interest to the broadcasts. He was a breath of fresh air.
I never minded the Dead references. I’m not a huge fan of theirs, but I’ve been to enough concerts to have nostalgia.
He always stayed true to the PNW and Oregon. And listening to stories about Wooden just brings me back to childhood. He was above the sport, more than the respect Nick Saban gets now.
Sucks that he’s gone.
Greg Sankey’s statements when asked about the possibility of athletes becoming employees of the universities:
“To be in collective bargaining, you have to be in an employment situation,” he said.
“I have not had a student-athlete come to me and say they want to be taxed like an employee.”
WTF? He has to know they’re already paying taxes on their income. He had more comments pointed towards Congress. It sounds like he’s playing both sides a little. Like he wants congress to pass some type of anti-trust legislation for universities so when athletes eventually become employees, the schools won’t have to pay market value. Guy is the biggest snake in the snake pit.
The recent NCAA settlement, NIL, transfer portal, conference realignment and network’s coercive actions to undermine conferences are all simply untenable events if each were happening in a vacuum, but these are all coinciding within a 2-3 year span.
For 20 years the SEC and ESPN have been stacking the deck in their favor, add lining their pockets with largess along the way. The NIL currently allows these schools to buy players, transfer portal allows them to poach free agents, realignment helps them dictate and centralize their influence over post season formats.
Now the NCAA settlement has become the ultimate power play for these cheaters. In some irrational way, they argued that this settlement needs to apply to all schools across all conferences, even as they(SEC/BIG10) have been getting the lions share of money and exposure for the last 20 years without question. So the fallout is they are going to fleece the athletic departments of AAC, Big East, MAC, MWC, SWAC, MEAC type conferences and pool the money to pay former athletes. How can it be argued that a San Jose, or Florida Atlantic athletic department is even in the same zip code as Alabama when it comes to identifying which athletes were hurt by the “lack of NIL opportunities”. It is almost a jaded way of watching the rich rob from the poor in order for the rich to pay their credit card debt. On top of that, they agree that the going cap for covering this new settlement cost should be no more than $20 million per school.?!? That sounds like a drop in the bucket for SEC teams who annually get about $90 mil/school from ESPN, but for a school like San Jose it is more like 5-6 years of athletic budgets combined.
It is fairly easy to predict that many schools will simply close down some sports, or even consider more drastic decisions like reevaluating sports as a whole. Women’s sports will be on the block initially, then Olympic sports after that.
CHarlie Baker, Greg Sankey, ESPN execs, FOX execs, BIG10 commissioner have all pushed the lines for total domination and they don’t realize that the process is not going to end well for a large majority of college athletes or athletic departments. Greed, selfish motives.
I’d also guess ESPN sees long-term numbers and knows they are being forced to do these drastic interventions in order to try to create a new form of football product as a way of maintaining financial stability. I don’t think it will work.
ESPN holds the reigns on ACC implosion and is waiting for their own timing to destroy it, or reconfigure it in a way that benefits ESPN. Ironically they report as if they are merely an observer rather than admitting they have a key role in the whole situation, which shows that a lot of this stuff is being done for clicks too.
I’m almost done with it all, I hope the Beavs baseball can get on a roll and win one last championship at least.
Hmmm. Why would the P4 conferences not want their media contracts released? Don’t we know what’s in them already?
https://www.tampabay.com/sports/2024/05/30/acc-lawsuit-florida-state-ashley-moody-clemson-conference-realignment/
Interesting that the common denominator present throughout is ESPN. ESPN has been OZ behind the curtain for quite a while and they don’t want their unscrupulous methods exposed for public consumption.
That list of trade secrets is simply the process of how they attempt to create/influence the most marketable games on their own network rather than simply objectively covering the games as they are scheduled without any skin in the game, which was the case in the 1980s/1990s.
Lots of people getting payoffs to keep it all under wraps or they would certainly be exposed for the way they have been manipulating the “collegiate athletic marketplace” to favor their own products.
Congressional intervention is the only thing that’s going to stop this mad dash for money. But I’m not going to hold my breath.
I was talking to a guy I work with today about the whole NIL mess. He brought up an interesting question, when will some of these more popular kids start asking espn to pay them directly for showing them on TV? Espn is using their name and image all while sell ad space. You would think that constitutes payment no different then schools paying right?
The new OSU license plate is here!
I guess they need 3,000 vouchers before they can get started? Should be available this fall.

Already ordered mine. Been waiting for a good design.
Old Benny would’ve been better but I like this.
Agreed, ordered one also, but old school Benny always
The smaller conferences getting robbed aren’t considering a lawsuit? Big Sky commissioner on Canzano was audiibly upset about the state of things.
I figure that the ones who voice opposition to Sankey et al, and shout the loudest will be made an example of by those who prefer the theft. Kind of like old mobster intimidation, or a scandal surrounding that lone voice suddenly appears in print to discredit the malcontent.
The smaller conferences need to unite quickly and push back or they will be shoved into the corner of the cafeteria and have all of their lunch money taken in broad daylight and no one will say anything about it.
Weather not looking good for Sunday baseball in Corvallis this weekend. Atmospheric river inbound
Well, athletes will no longer need to sit a year after their 2nd xfer. Wonder how long it will take for them to waive the enrollment requirements for new term/semester? That’s likely the only thing holding back a mid-season xfer to a new team and immediately playing at this point and time. I’m sure there’s some contractual language via the scholarship but what power would that even hold since the athlete would be leaving?
They still have to hold a certain GPA in order to play.
It is all changing so quickly, I wonder how these administrators think it is going to end well. College athletics or at least the revenue generating sports will need to decouple from universities altogether and become a new form of club sports/low level pro leagues, but there is no way all sports will be able to make such a transition.
I wonder if the consolidation of football is also a tell of the lower numbers of kids playing in pop warner, high school levels. Perhaps the general trend and metrics means they know the pool of players is getting smaller over the next 20 years. So naturally these administrators are anticipating the degrading of talent and squeezing as many schools as possible out of an already crowded pond, for their own benefit long-term.
The ESPN talking heads have been spouting about a 12 or 16 team playoff for 20 years, here we are.
They have been spouting off and manufacturing the debates about players getting paid for 15-20 years, and here we are.
They have been moaning about the poor athlete not being able to transfer if the coach leaves, or if he is homesick, or if he wants another opportunity, and here we are.
Now we have these same guys worrying and hoping that Congress will come in and solve the problem of classifying students as non-employees rather than employees of the schools they attend and play for. Athletes on scholarship get access and benefits that the general student enrollment has no access to and yet the athletes are presented as the victims. Schools benefit from sports, athletes benefit from sports, students on campus benefit from sports, but ESPN has imploded the whole thing for their own concept of how ESPN shall benefit from the sports above all others. Congress won’t act on this in any meaningful way, but they will stand with hands out and pockets open for ESPN to tell them what to do next.
Class action by student athletes will continue to track through the system, but guys like Greg Sankey and Charlie Baker, aren’t interest in solutions, just preserving the powerful few brands that they have always been associated with at the expense of all the others. It is a stalemate of powerful men deciding how and who gets to divided the spoils and no one is going to interfere at this point. At least not until some major financiers can over-run what these guys have done and reformat college sports into a different form than what the Sankey model is heading towards.
Can’t wait to see the first player transfer during the 4th quarter of a game from the losing team to the winning team.
Hey, i called for that one or two years ago….
Halftime, go sign paperwork, switch uniform…
: )
Pretty soon the rules will be that only the agent has to sign a PDF electronically.
Signing bonus would be the NIL tapping their card on the agent’s watch?
Anyone know the last time OSU played a football game outside the state on Thanksgiving weekend?
2010?
I know it happened at least once. But it’s been rare.
Apple Cup Streaming:
“The game will be broadcast on Peacock, NBC’s streaming service. The 2024 Apple Cup will be the first game of a five-year scheduling agreement between Washington and Washington State to continue the cross-state rivalry through at least 2028, despite UW’s move to the Big Ten before the 2024 season.”
