New commit today is Sumner Houston. Here is his tape:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apYcHTw9HpU

Looks good to me. Fluid and in the right place, only knock is he looks a bit slow (can’t find a 40 time).

Seems time to forget the Oregon love tap and move on to other topics, so discuss anything you wish. Someone made a funny comment in the other thread, how we can’t even find out about commits now that the local papers fired everyone. It’s true, go here and there’s nothing. Mamma Machado’s going to be heating up.

It’s all about Ward and Anderson and the discussions that took place to get them to OSU.

Cal is just over the hill.* And Stanford is still pretentious as hell.** So making inroads to a national power is a good thing.

      *literally
**pretentious is such a…an… umm… unencompassing word for SU.

Looks like he explodes off the snap very well; watch how he goes just a split-second before everyone else.

Doesn’t appear to have any pass rush moves; he basically just uses his strength to bull through blockers.

Looks solid, and that school is awesome, so hopefully he develops well.

He holds a lot. He looks like a Nikegon O-lineman on any given snap… except he does it in traffic where nobody can see the obvious. He’s smart that way.

I got no apologies for the OL who got played by him using the same smarts. I like this kid. He knows that he who hits first hits last.

Another tidbit of recruiting info, will Hopkins, a 6’7 de/te from Austin Texas will join the beavs as a preferred walkon and will be awarded a scholarship after fall. He originally committed to Air Force then was going to be a preferred walk on at k-state but tripped to osu and choose to play for the beavs, I haven’t watched video so I don’t know what to think, if I find film, I’ll link it

I don’t know what’s what yet, but Hopkins was a 2011 PSA. So he is likely a JUCO who will walk on. I’m guessing he might have 3 for 3. In the least he has 2 for 3.

Per blitz he went to prep school so the clock didn’t start ticking. I believe he was a 2012 grad plus a year of prep school so 5 x 4 is my understanding

has 4 years to play 3. Went to prep school which took his first year of eligibility, but doesn’t need to sit out a transfer year, so he’ll be available immediately. Sounds like a good kid who just decided the Air-force just wasn’t the right fit for him.

      Hey Folks,
      Full Disclosure – I am Will’s dad…
-He has 5 to play 4, long story – AF Prep is like 5th year of High School. Navarro was “safety valve” Left Air Force Prep (just not his thing) after 2013 Signing Day so scramble to find opportunity
-2012 Austin, TX Bowie H.S. Grad, Played mostly DE in H.S. (WR/TE Fresh/Soph. years) at about 225 – Offers from SMU, Wyoming, Colorado State, Texas State, Air Force, 3* DE on Rivals/Scout
      -Currently 6’7″/255/4.8/4.35 shuttle
-Coach Riley wants him as TE, though mentioned DE as well.
-2013 Preferred walk-ons at Texas, Kansas State, UTSA
-Love at first sight on official visit (June 5-7) to OSU – Corvallis, school, campus, the program and especially the coaches – Riley, Cav, Beck…
-Official visit to Oregon June 12-14, liked it but was waiting to hear on 2013 scholarship (after NCAA ruling), when he decided he wanted OSU regardless – it “felt like home”
-In Corvallis and in Bridge program now.

Do t-shirts have copyright rules? IOW, if I went to a private t-shirt company, said I wanted an orange t-shirt with Oregon State printed upon it and had a picture of a beaver for them to scan, (I imagine there would be trouble if, for instance, I took in one of the Beaver logo stickers), what then?

Pretty sure you’re fine as long as you don’t infringe on any trademarks (i.e. their specific logo). Oregon State isn’t a TM because you can just be talking about the State of Oregon. And if you own the beaver photo or have permission to use it you’re fine. I think.

That’s a good plan, I’m kind of a clearance guy and buy what I can find cheap and if it fits. I don’t care much about brands, but maybe I will start. Unfortunately, my sons soccer club is sponsored by Nike.

I don’t care much about brands, either. I’m a quality guy…I’ll pay a little more for things made of real materials designed to last. A good example was that the big box stores were all selling me $15 can openers made of low grade Chinese metals than kept rusting or breaking after 6 months. Went through 5 of those before a lightbulb came on and I went hunting for the old swing-aways we used as kids. Found one on ebay new in the box from 1960! It’s a tank and has a razor sharp blade. Paid $25 for it; I can tell it will last at least a decade if not forever. For those interested in this topic, watch the documentary “the lightbulb conspiracy”…

            Here’s a write up: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/light-bulb-conspiracy/

My cycling gloves keep shredding after a few months…it’s been difficult to find a good, old pair. I was thinking of maybe using leather batting gloves and modifying as needed, but it’s almost impossible to find leather batting gloves these days…

my recommendation is if you own something made of a natural material keep it and care for it

BDC’s recent quotes about hoping Reser Phase 3 can get started by 2019 and OSU actually losing seats until then in a couple of years when Valley Center expansion reduces the North Endzone seating may lock OSU in a difficult position to compete amongst the top of the Pac-12. He threw out a low ball seating # and one wonders if that could mean the “lipstick on a pig” approach is gaining more consideration despite of its future implications for Oregon State’s flagship program.

Yeah let’s expand a stadium that doesn’t sell out– that seems smart.

The Chinese did this and they’re left with empty cities. Think this through, BB–when there is real demand you expand. “Build it and they will come” only works in Field of Dreams.

Did we not sell out all/most of our games last year? I thought we were pretty darn close each game (maybe not Nicholls State?). Either way, regardless of whether we actually “expand” the stadium our half-finished looking stadium looks ridiculous.

I went to the ASU vs. ORST game 2 years ago in Tempe…Talk about a large stadium that looked empty! They had fans spread out throughout the stadium to have patches, but that masked the fact that they were about 30% from full capacity…maybe more, but everyone says the stadium is great…upper deck bathrooms in the endzones need upgrades…badly in that stadium! I can’t read BB’s write up at work because it’s blocked. So I’ll read it later.

What I like about the current results in football recruiting with guys like Houston is the consistent “3 star” results. I know that star systems are flawed; I know its easy to accept and cite them when you “like” the results, but the last class and the first four recruits of this class are some of the most consistent classes in Riley’s tenure in terms of estimated ability across the board, no? Usually there’s a few three stars, maybe a four, and a lot of “diamonds in the rough” – no, 1, and 2 stars. 2013 – only a few “2 stars,” everyone else 3+.

Scout has all four current verbals as three stars. Rivals has only Houston as a two star, and that will likely change after his senior year. Keep the momentum on these kinds of classes and 9 and 10 win seasons can become a reality.

Now if they could add the occasional 4*+ impact player, a QB, RB, DE, CB, or OLB, then they can probably get one game better, particularly if that player has not only talent, but leadership ability.

It may sound ridiculous, but imagine if Max Browne looked at the joke Lane Kiffin is making of USC, and instead chose the O-Line potential of OSU and the WR and RB stable. Pus the players he’d attract. He’s probably very effective in year 2 – unlike most OSU qbs – and OSU is all of a sudden a rose bowl threat. Hell, the team could probably overcome a few bad play calls too.
