I had to let April Fool’s play out, so baseball just going up now. Beavs win game 1 but lose their #1 pitcher for the year.

Both remaining games at 4pm. I’m going to make a WBB thread, so when I do that on Sunday post about baseball here not there.

Go Beavs.

  1. Houston Beav promised not to post here for six months…………April Fizzisle! (or however you spell it)

Nice to see the bats come back in league play, tough loss for the pitching staff. Let’s see if there is depth. Someone needs to step up.

    • REPEATING FROM PREVIOUS THREAD:
10-1 is nice alright, but Eckert going down after the Rasmussen news is nothin’ to joke about. We all realize this team was thin on pitching before April 1; but now??

Who is gonna come out of the woodwork to help these guys get to even Angry’s 12th to 20th? I suppose my top candidates, in no particular order, are: Church, Fehmel, Britton, and Heimlich. If Eckert is out for an extended time, will Casey see Jake as the Friday night guy……ugh.

I don’t have much hope for Pomeroy, big disappointment so far. I had high hopes for that big lug. The rest of the staff is pretty much unknown, at least to me. That is assuming Engelbrekt and Hickey are needed as relief/closer.

    • from the previous thread…………..just found your post

“But I know beaver nation does not believe Casey has weaknesses and “warts”. I’m not saying he’s a perfect creation from God. But he’s the best coach the school has had in any sport, trying to point out his “warts” is pointless.

Which of those would people side with”

      My question still remains.

  2. angry @ angry,

Finally I think you’re just in the wrong demographic here. If you’ll notice at the top of the page underneath angrybeavs it states

“A Critical View of Oregon State Athletics”

With that in mind, you can either live with it, fucking leave, shut the fuck up, or continue to whine like a bitch on an internet blog site that…………….

    A. Isn’t yours
    B. You haven’t donated a fucking penny to.
    C. Isn’t affiliated with Oregon St athletics in any way, shape or form.

We get it. We really do.

Your choice. You think Kansas or North Carolina men’s basketball teams don’t have folks that question the coaching staff? What they do or don’t do? It’s the reason for this shit. It’s the reason this blog was created and exists. What do you not understand? Or are you just so bored that you like to argue sometimes?

Honestly I think you’re another one of Jack’s multiple personalities.

There’s other websites and blogs out there that you could post on where your demographic lies. Where everything is unicorns and their glittery turds.

    • Whiskey I get all that. I really do. Take Mike Riley for example. I liked him, thought a lot of the heat he got was unfair, he didn’t get the university’s support to the level that Anderson has. But hey, some of that needs to fall on him. towards the end I don’t think he worked his tail off like you need to at that level of football. So trying to put some heat on his ass, sure that makes some sense.

Now applying that to Casey, I just don’t see that. The guy isn’t going to change his philosophy 22 years into his career. And let’s be honest, statistical probabilities Internet baseball will never be the same as real baseball. Anyone who compares them and believes that being good at one means you’re good at both, is just flat wrong. Casey is not perfect. But to support a suggestion to push him aside to bring in an unproven is crazy. To suggest that anyone here knows anything about baseball that he doesn’t, is also crazy.

      • Whiskey I get all that. I really do.

At least you still have a sense of humor. But April 1st was yesterday.

To suggest that anyone here knows anything about baseball that he doesn’t, is also crazy.

You’re the only one saying this, thus, we all think you’re crazy.

        • So you don’t think Angry is suggesting he knows something Casey doesn’t when he’s referring to the .26 chance of scoring with runner on 1st and 1 out compared to .22 chance of scoring with runner on 2nd and 2 outs?

          • The only time that makes the slightest bit of sense if if the next batter has a high average. But I’ve seen him do it with a light hitter coming up next, which probably puts the figure even lower. It’s just dumb. Nothing you say while talking with your dick will change the math or logic.

          • No reason to play the actual games then. It’ll just be theory baseball and probability basketball. Good thing the Lady Beavs don’t listen to you, otherwise, why would they even show up tomorrow?

          • Um, because there is a small chance they win?
That has nothing to do with in-game probabilities of certain plays. Yeah, a 1 out bunt will work out here and there, but less than swinging away. Dude, drink some coffee or something.

          • Q: Who the hell suggested Casey doesn’t know this?

            A: Angry@angry and nobody else.

Q: Why did he do this?

A: Because he thinks a straw man built on an appeal to authority gives him license to reduce his cognitive bias to the absurd. That’s the only way he makes any sense.

Coaches can know what’s right and still do the wrong thing. Smokers can know smoking is bad and still smoke. Authority figures are not machines. Even machines have flaws, because they’re made by humans. People get a stick in their craw and do what is counter to all they know is right sometimes. Then they get called out for it. Normal people would hear/read the chiding and say, “Yeah… s/he does that sometimes for whatever reason,” and move on. But your cognitive bias is so far out of whack that you make up shit that others say then change even that in the middle of what you think is a valid argument.

So the answer to your question is no.

      • “But I know beaver nation does not believe Casey has weaknesses and “warts”. I’m not saying he’s a perfect creation from God. But he’s the best coach the school has had in any sport, trying to point out his “warts” is pointless.”

“Casey is not perfect. But to support a suggestion to push him aside to bring in an unproven is crazy. To suggest that anyone here knows anything about baseball that he doesn’t, is also crazy.”

Your story sure is changing fast. I don’t recall anyone here ever saying Casey should go and the Beavs hire someone else unproven. I never stated that. This all started with you saying no one should be able to question PC’s in game management. Or that no one knows as much about baseball as him or the entire coaching staff. Which are all ridiculous statements

          • When did I ever state I know more about baseball than PC? Never. Off the top of my head Tony LaRussa comes to mind

          • It’s his specialty, a straw man built on an appeal to authority because his cognitive bias needs to conflate his straw man with reality in order to make any sense whatsoever… well, make sense to him.

  3. GoBeavs…

Anybody here going to civil war weekend? I’ll be at Sat/Sun games, possibly in the visitors families section.

      • I don’t really know where yet. Waiting to hear back from family if they’ll have enough extra “players family” seats. If not, I have backup tix out in the right field bleachers

        • hey the out field bleachers are not bad just get there early and a person has their choice where to sit. the only problem is that they don’t let you have access to the concessions inside not even the main one in fount…

  4. First pitch in a few minutes.
Casey sounds upbeat re: Eckert. Back issues.
So, Jake gets the start; not too hard to predict with a fair degree of confidence….a somewhat rocky 1st followed by two or three good innings, then WATCH OUT.

Back to acoustic guitars, Taylor is out with a limited edition 8 string! Tasmanian Blackwood/Mahogany.
    https://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/limited-editions/2016-limited-editions

UPDATE: Eckert said on PAC12 that he’ll be ready to go next week.

  5. Pretty much on schedule, t4, Jake gives up a leadoff BB and 3 hits resulting in 3 runs. 3-0 fuskies, Harrison to lead off the b4.

  6. Remember when the 7th was often good to the Beavs? 3 runs in the b7 and it is a one run ballgame. But, Church starts the t8 with a HBP and is done for the day. On comes Hickey, a good choice I think. BWDIK.

  7. 5-4 good guys and Max comes in for Hickey to pitch the 9th. Hickey looked very good today, not sure I’d pull him since there is no one likely to do a good job if Max has any problems.

    • good to see them come back and win this one… and to do against the guy they said had not given up a run in what like 37 innings or something

  8. Great win. The top of the 9th was a little too nerve wracking, though.

OT: Did you all see the tweet from Jack Lenihan?
“I’ve decided to decommit from Oregon State. Apparently, you need to have an offer first. I did not know that.”

Hysterical. I’d almost offer the dude off the merits of that tweet alone.

      • I heard a rumor that Jack Lenihan is close to landing an offer from Nebraska, and possibly another from a Pac12 school we all love as well. Might be worth following that guy, as I think his recruitment is about to blow up.

  9. Going to see OSU at Hillsboro Stadium next weekend. Unfortunately it is looking like a 4 win season this year. Andersen not raising the game as much as I was hoping for. Garretson is short and slow and has tendancy to throw off his back leg. Tim Cook has the most upside & Nall should be dependable. Not expecting Bolden to be money in the clutch so will see if Paul Lucas rises to the occasion for another speedy threat. Wasn’t that impressed with Moran’s film but he is likely the future and Garretson may be somewhat serviceable but probably not that spectacular. Thinking a 5 win cap with this year’s squad. If Moran is a quick study then maybe next year’s group has a 40% shot of 6 wins. Still I wanted more from Andersen. Highlight for me this year will be the new Terrace and VFC upgrade.

  10. Danny reports on the open practice today; says both Seth Collins and Justin Strong dropped by and were, apparently, well received by team members. Any significance to this?

“Old man” Willis got some props and Leo Fuimaono seems to have the Center position sewn up. Again I ask, anyone know anything about Leo?

BTW, Seth’s sister was on JoeBeav recently and sounded really squared away. She carried on an intelligent conversation with Parker (cue Parker haters) and seems committed to the track team.

  11. holy shit the Pac is really down this year. Looking at the overall records?

    http://www.d1baseball.com/conferences/pac12.htm

Pac-12 could only be a 2 or 3 bid conference this year. Win the conference or you aren’t hosting a regional (we all knew that anyway after last year). You know it’s a down year when Utah is tied for 1st place 3 weeks in and overall they’re 9-14

  12. Heading to Goss for baseball game this afternoon. Taking a friend’s ticket that wants to stay home and watch the basketball game live. He won’t DVR because he is afraid they will either announce the score or he will over hear in the background chatter. I’ll take the risk. JB

PS: I will not be signing autographs or commenting on spring football. Will be wearing my trademark tight sweater, plaid polyester slacks, white patent leather loafers and goofy glasses.

  13. Gretler to ph for Donahue?……..say what??
Love to see Angry’s statistical analysis on that move.

UPDATE: Gretler gets a single and an RBI. 2-0.
If Angry’s slide rule wasn’t bent I’m sure he’d have had time to do the analysis and make the hit/RBI prediction. lol
