      • I think the Beaver runner should get in the opposing first baseman’s face with an intimidating yelling and flexing chest bump after each passage to the base. That’ll send the message about physicality for sure!

P.s. – could add some backflips on the way for added style and prowess.

          • That’s too subtle, Belle needs to be a lot louder and just a touch more intimidating — certainly on the right track. Notice no Brewer wants a piece of him nor rushes to the aid of their teammate Vena — that’s the kind of out—athlete swagger you need to win championships — could definitely use more!!! LOL (makes me think of Rice player going off on a Beav in the 2006 CWS).

  1. OT: In the “news that’s not news” file, Wilner discusses pay for academic achievement, points out : “Only three Pac-12 schools are committed to the process of rewarding players for classroom achievement, per ESPN: Colorado, Washington and Oregon.
Over in the SEC, there are 10. (If you include Oklahoma and Texas, which are set the join the league in a few years, the total rises to 12 of 16 schools.)”

I didn’t realize that our seasons over if we don’t get two out of three, high stakes! ;) (Sarcasm)

Man the Beavs and M’s keep rolling and I am loving it.

Where are those folks that said both teams weren’t good? Has your mind changed yet?

All we really have to is win 8 more games this season and were more or less guarenteed to be a national seed.

We only need to win like 3-4 to be a regional host.

      Stakes are insane obviously.

      • 3
        1

If we win 40 but don’t win P12, I’m not certain that will get a national seed but 40 wins plus P12 title should be a lock for national seed. Weird things happen in baseball but I like our chances to take 2 of 3 vs. the Utes.

      • I don’t think it’s high stakes. Yeah we might get a higher seed if we do well this weekend but we are in no danger of not making the post season if we have a bad weekend. I expect a sweep this weekend btw.

          • Except when they’re destroying UO in football.

            62-20. or 38-7. or 38-3

Not sure there’s another football program out there that has given them the proverbial buttfuck as many times in the last 15 years.

Walling transferring is disappointing, always hate to lose an in-state guy. Thought he could provide depth for this year, and had a shot for serious playing time next year with some experience.

      • He was buried on the 2-deep for this season, but he looked like he was developing well in the Spring game, very active and around the ball a lot, although he did get run over a couple times. Sucks, love the kid, but I understand his mindset, either sweat it out the next two seasons trying to crack to 2-deep and see real playing time or transfer somewhere where he is in need now and get on the field this Fall, just wants to play.

        • Exactly. No big loss.

He’ll be better off transferring to somewhere like Portland State if he wants playing time.

Men’s basketball gets a xfer commitment from Gonzaga player. Their water boy probably better than our guys so this is good news.

    • Wrong bulldogs. He’s transferring from Georgia unless there are two transfers committing today.

Also, looks like a commit for football, Max Walker. He is a 5 star punter according to his twitter profile. Finally a 5 star!!!!!!! Take that nemec.

  4. 6
    1

New MBB transfer from Georgia looks legit. Played in every game, started the final third of the season and led the team in APG and FT%.

      • “During his freshman season at Georgia, Wright averaged 5.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game”

Not much to regress from unless he just becomes a cardboard cutout on the basketball court. Under the Stinkle tutelage, this may actually be possible.

    • One of the rare transfers to OSU who logged a lot of playing time and started a few games – rather than a rotational guy who was never going to be a starter. It does seem like Tinkle is trying to “reinvent” the program and this is the rare transfer he’s brought in since the exodus. Likely hoping to have a “well we have a really young team” excuse in his back pocket if needed.

      • 1
        1

Color me not impressed if he “logged a lot of playing time” and what I posted were his stats.

Your sentence of playing the young card taken into consideration. Not a dig on you.

        • Being a starter in the SEC is still more impressive than anything our recent group of transfers did. Yes, he did start for the SEC equivalent of OSU, but it’s still better than being a multi-year water boy at Marquette.

This looks like the Reveno hire bearing immediate fruit, as he would have recruited Wright while at GT. And we finally have a real PG. I think this can be considered a small sign of progress.

          • Your hope is admirable, but I’ll remain skeptical of all things Tinkle based on his past trends toward regression, poor talent assessment, poor substitution pattern, poor in game strategy and generally losing the entire team by game 8 of non-conference play. It won’t matter if Tinkle has a true point guard, he just ruins them and refuses to use them correctly anyway.

          • This type of analysis is lazy. For the record, I am not super fond of Tinkle. But given the run last year. You can’t say he’s bad at everything. Because if he really is as poor a recruiter as people say he is, then he must be a fantastic coach to get them to the Elite Eight. I do understand that Senior leadership is big and Reichle and Thompson were certainly huge. But Alatishe, Andela, Silva, Lucas, and Calloo were all huge parts of that run. Guys that were recruited and/or developed by Tinkle. The shift in recruiting/bringing in guys this year signals to me that Tinkle understands he made a mistake bringing in so many transfers last year. He is a coach that needs as many program guys as possible. Guys like Isaiah Johnson and Zach Reichle who understand what is required for the system to work. All I am saying is if you are going to knock him for his failures, you have to give credit where it is due.

I think this is a huge get. Having an understated Point Guard who is an elite free throw shooter and not a giant ego is huge. We had a highly touted Point Guard last year and we went 3-28.

          • Not lazy, realistic. I acknowledge Tinkle’s accomplishments of 2 NCAA tourney in 7 years, and an incredible Elite 8 run. But those don’t sway me from reality. He isn’t a good coach nor is he a program builder.
He has had the 2 worst years in the last 40, each the year after reaching the NCAA tourney.

He would be the definition of a paradox coach. Great success and great failures. I think the players had more to do with the success and he has more to do with the failures. Everyone saw him step out of the way for the Elite 8 run, because he had Ethan to lean on and he did. He can’t coach a team into that level of consistency on his own. But he has shown the ability to dismantle and lose the teams he coaches.

GP2 and Ethan are the reasons he had 2 great years, otherwise he hasn’t coached his way out of a paperbag. Perhaps he has been trying to adjust to the transfer portal and deserves some benefit of the doubt. But i’m not sold on it. I think he has shown his limitations, and anyone unwilling to see it can continue to suffer with high expectations that will be dashed.

          • He has the #1 and #3 worst seasons (by percentage) in the 121 year history of the program. You are correct. He is not a good coach.

          • I didn’t say he was a good coach, I just said he is not as bad at everything as everyone says. Removing Coache’s sons he is the best recruiter in modern history in terms of rankings (which I could give two shits about). He has produced our only two tournament teams in the last 30 plus years. He also led Montana to multiple tournament appearances. Believe me, I would much rather have a coach that can produce yearly tournament appearances, Tinkle is not that guy. Last year sucked, it made no sense and the biggest knock on Tinkle IMO was his lack of ownership in last season. That’s where he lost a lot of respect from me. His seat is red hot and deservedly so. If he can’t get us back to the tournament this year. Get him out of here. The Reality (outside of mine and yours) is he is not as bad or as good as anybody says he is. He is very mediocre, and that’s the bottom line. We have a mediocre coach.

          • Again, you could say the same about a lot of teams and their players. Having great players is what makes great teams. But the coach has to get the other players buying in to the team dynamic around those players. That is his job and he absolutely did that in those years. You can’t argue otherwise, the players echoed that sentiment both years. In the same vein he failed to do that last year and in other years. But people that say it was GPII and Ethan that carried us. Bullshit. Pure Bullshit. Basketball is a team sport. We had great players this year but still sucked. I am not arguing he is good nor great. He is very mediocre. I am arguing that people get unrealistic and they can’t see how things really are.

          • Stats show a guy who won’t generate as many assists as Davis and won’t score as much inside the paint, but TO rate is similar and he’s a better pure shooter (FT and 3P). Defense should be better.

This is based on true freshman numbers. Plus, he was apparently getting berated by Tom Crean via text message all season, which can’t be good for the ol’ psyche.

          • If you Google it there’s an article that summarizes it. Wright’s dad posted a few screenshots to Twitter that shows Crean blaming him for losing, saying he was shooting too much, you better play this way at all times or you won’t play at all “I’m the coach and don’t you forget it,” etc.

Not sure you can look at Wright’s stats and conclude he was shooting too much. Nor should a coach be interacting like that with players over text.

          • “You are going to get back to running our offense and delivering the ball where it’s supposed to go and then take clean drives or getting into the paint and kick it out or I can’t play you in these games. You are making it hard on yourself because you are centered on scoring when you get it and that is OVER. When you make it hard on you it is hard on everyone else. That ball is going to be passed.

“I’m the Coach and the decision maker. Don’t get tricked by thinking anything different because no one is in charge of playing time but me.”

            https://www.on3.com/college/georgia-bulldogs/news/look-father-of-georgia-basketball-player-christian-wright-sounds-off-on-tom-crean/

I don’t have any issue with what he wrote. Only I’d have said it face to face instead of a text.

  5. D1 has both OSU and Gonzaga hosting, with nike the 2 seed in the Gonzage regional. Stanford hosts and Ariz and UCLA are 2 seeds.

  6. In the prospects live mock MLB draft, OSU commit Gavin Turley is picked late in the first round.

Can only hope he has a high number in mind for what he’ll sign for and make it to campus. Got to sell him on the fact that nearly all the first rounders picked at OSU have made the show in the modern era. And he can contend for a title and not have to ride busses for the next 5 years.

    • Funny thing is that Canham is one of the few first rounders that didn’t make it. But he was more of a supplemental first rounder, picked 57 overall.

Another Beav performing on the big stage,

GPII has played his way into a long career in the NBA this year. Should be in high demand as he’s a free agent at the end of the year. He’ll have his pick of which contender he wants to play for.

  8. Utah freshman linebacker Carson Tabaracci has entered the transfer portal. Apparently highly ranked and widely recruited, but Utah has depth. I suspect OSU would pose similar challenges w/depth?

      • Five others this week too.

“Tabaracci, safety Kamo’i Latu, offensive lineman Marist Talavou and running back Braedon Wissler all reportedly entered the portal Thursday, while safety Stone Azarcon and wide receiver Ben Renfro did so earlier in the week.”

  9. Daschel commented on a tweet. Miami basketball player will enter the xfer portal tomorrow if he doesn’t get increased NIL compensation. His agent says “Isaiah would like his NIL to reflect that he was the leader of an Elite 8 team”. Oh boy. Lol.

  10. Saw Hjerpe live at the Stanford game and he makes batters look ridiculous with the slider. It might be worth checking in for final 3 innings because he is just cruising right now.

  11. There’s nothing in my statement that indicated a no-hitter or perfection. Just sayin’

I have two fantasy baseball teams-I know the unwritten rules!

  12. 2

Huge choke job by beavs offense. Bases loaded and no outs. Logan taps one to the pitcher for the easy out at home and throws out at first. Double play. Fuchs on to hit with 2 down. Beavs losing 2 -1 in 8th.

  13. Weren’t interested in winning. Bases juiced and no outs and you walk away with nothing? Lol. Win game 2 or I think they get swept. Then 4 with Oregon. This is a pretty important game on Saturday.

  14. Joey Yellen looking for his third home. Do the Beavs still want him? I’d take a flyer if we lose Chance and Gebbia after this year.

  15. 2
    3

Taya Carosdale heading to Duke now too. Aleah is becoming Rueck’s nemesis.
Can’t imagine there was any tampering involved there…

      1

Given how strapped OSU’s Athletic Dept. is, and now the school is going to be giving “academic bonuses” to players, there can’t be much more bread left for NILs. I doubt the Beavers have a player, male or female athlete making more than $5k in off-field deals outside of Jade Carey.

    • Stanford lost 4-3 so they gained nothing. Oregon and UCLA both won. Arizona is playing a non conference 4 game set with Nevada.

Beavs still have a 1 game lead in the conference. And the 3 teams currently tied for 2nd are all teams they have yet to play.

They still control their own destiny. But the margin for error is razor thin. I’m nervous after the loss today but still think they can win the series this weekend. Utah is not a bad team. Bats need to show up.

  16. Lineup changes, or lack thereof, are part of the measure of Mitch. Today Gretler takes Dukart’s spot, Fuchs starts as DH. Logan remains at C and Dernedde keeps his spot at SS.
We’ll see, but what would angry do??

  17. Dam, rough giving up the 1st run. If we don’t win this game I’m predicting a sweep this weekend. That spells trouble for 4 games vs Ducks and ending with Zona and UCLA. As said yesterday, this feels like a big game for remainder of season. Obviously lots of game to go but bats were quiet yesterday and not much going on thru the first 4 batters today. Couldn’t move runners. Defense has been shakey at 3rd. Down 1-0 moving to 2nd inning.

  18. Interesting interview with Hjerpe. He talked about spending the off-season with Drive Line working on his pitches and they moved him away from curve to a sweeping slider. I’m sure Dorman has some involvement but i find that interesting the credit to drive line over the summer. As I type this Utah has a double, Logan doesn’t handle a tough pitch and runner moves to 3rd. Beavs look asleep at the wheel. Kmatz at 37 pitches and not out of the 2nd yet.

  19. 2-1 beavs. Bats still not great. Damage done by walks, sacrifice fly and great hustle by Melton to leg out a dribbler up 1st base line. Had 2 on with no outs so could’ve been better but got 2 to take the lead and starter threw a bunch of pitches. Could be a bullpen battle as Kmatz is at 40 pitches at the start of the 3rd inning for the Utes.

  20. Through 3, Kmatz at 49 pitches; if he is hitting his stride he can go 6-7 inniings.
2-1 good guys after 3 full, time to jump on this Ute arm and use momentum.

    • 1 would argue not great hitting period. This great offense has scratched together 9 hits in 14 innings. No real contact today on the hits we’ve had.

  21. Beavs fail to capitalize again. Melton on 2nd with 1 out and can’t do anything. Utes freshman pitcher making our guys look a little silly. 6 lob going to bottom of 5. 2-1 good guys but not much confidence that score stands and Beavs haven’t shown anything so far to suggest getting more than 2 runs.

  22. Pitch count not gonna cause Dorman to pull Kmatz now, but he seemed to be fadiing as the 5th closed out.
New arm in for Utes, need to get to him; 2 runs ain’t gonna win this one.

  23. Man, if you look at conference #’s vs full season #’s, the offense is middle of the Pac. Entering today’s game tied for 8th in hits with Utah and at time of writing this will move below Utah. Tied for 5th with 17 homers. 5th in rbi. 6th in avg at .287. Walks are the only thing helping them. #1 in walks. Wow.

Should only help with TE recruiting. Guy leaving a year early and going 5th round even though he wasnt known as a star player. Good for TQ

  24. Saw Damir Collins HS teammate Nathan Rawlins Kibonge is leaving Oklahoma. Wouldnt surprise me if both ended up at oregon, since their former HS coach Don Johnson is there(still recovering from his heart attack though)
Both were interested in oregon out of HS but NCAA rules wouldnt allow players to go somewhere their coach got hired. But those rules dont exist anymore.

    • He must be going somewhere where he will get more than 50k in NIL since anyone on the Sooners roster after spring is going to get that at a minimum. So not the Beavs.

  25. Mitch’s brilliance shows through, starting Gretler results in a 3 RBI HR. Pulling back from setting up for a bunt.

    Where’s angry?

  26. Bats came alive late. Finally.

Bullpen should have plenty of bullets left for tomorrow.

I’m confident they’ll win the series.

  27. I don’t think Eggers piece on Darwin has been mentioned here, worth a read.
Mitch says, ““They call us the ‘yin’ and ‘yang,’ ” … “He’s the nice one; I’m the ornery one. Good cop, bad cop.We see things very differently because of the way we are, but we make it blend very well.”…“Darwin has a little more of a lovey touch to him. I’m a little more up front. I’m extremely transparent. He has a good feel for timing of a message, with the tone of his voice in delivering some of his stuff. We both make it work. We respect the heck out of each other, love working with each other.

    https://www.kerryeggers.com/stories/barney-chooses-beaver-baseball-over-pros-where-your-heart-is-matters

    • Darwin is going to have to make a tough decision next year. He will be in demand for any college head coaching job. I can’t see why other schools would not pursue him esp ones on the west coast.

      • I think it’s cool that he doesn’t have to choose between money and what he wants to do. I have a feeling he will stick to OSU considering his involvement in Portland Diamond project.

  28. 25

That dirty douchebag Verone Mckinlley left school early to enter the NFL draft and ended up not getting drafted. I hope he enjoys his job at Arby’s. Poetic justice.

  29. With the late game time, pretty much everyone should be available in the bullpen.

Gotta hope that Pfennigs can run up the pitch count a lot more tomorrow. Three innings would be nice to see.

    • With his surprisingly tough running style, and humility and sense of team, he’d be a great fit in that physical, outdoor/weather and fan environment.

  30. Top prospect Adley Rutschman continued his minor league rehab assignment with High-A Aberdeen with hits in the first four of his five at-bats, including two doubles off right-hander Mick Abel, the Philadelphia Phillies’ No. 1 prospect according to Baseball America. In four games — two each at catcher and designated hitter — Rutschman is hitting .462 with a 1.225 OPS.

  31. OT: update on Beaver NFL FA signings:

“Running back B.J. Baylor is headed to Green Bay, outside linebacker Andrzej Hughes-Murray to the Los Angeles Rams, receiver Trevon Bradford to the Los Angeles Chargers and Keonte Schad to Arizona. Two Beavers are bound for Seattle in inside linebacker Avery Roberts and cornerback Elijah Jones.

The seven players headed to the NFL from last year’s roster is the most under fifth-year coach Jonathan Smith. It is the most since the 2017 Beavers team yielded eight players to get NFL opportunities.”

  32. Leg humpers rally with 3 in the 9th to win 11-10 and win their series over Stanford. Ducks lost to Cal, UCLA swept ASSU.

Need to win tonight to stay a game up on UCLA.

  33. Beavs WBB picks up a transfer, Shalexxus Aaron.
Previous stints at USC, Texas Southern and Syracuse.
    4th times the charm?

  34. F’ing Ducks/Nike paid off a really good frosh RB from my Gophers. This NIL shit stinks!! Of all the F’ing teams!

    • Yup. Ben Ferrer. Just as I called it yesterday. Hopefully he can get the Beavs to the 7th-8th inning.

  35. Anyone know how many of the losses this year have been by one run? Yeah I can look it up. Pitching hasn’t lost many games.

    • The pitching lost at least a couple giving up high scoring affairs in late inning debacle…. one to Cal and another to WSU.

        • Yeah I guess I always thought of the offense as being high powered but it seems there have been a few games where the pitching has been great but offense hasn’t scored more than a run or two and it’s been a loss.

          • As the bullpen has gotten much better over the season, the batting has gotten subpar. I see a lot of impatience at the plate lately. Swinging at 0-0 (or 2-0; 2-1 count) pitches after opposing pitcher walked or struggling with command — don’t give them an easy out. That’s where the coaches need to step in and make them see pitches until a strike is thrown.

  36. 1
    1

Dumb mistake there by Melton. Turns a single into a triple.

Hope that doesn’t come back to bite them in the ass

  37. Don’t know what to think about this offense. They average, but seem opportunistic — however without Jacob Melton, bad day today, the offense goes nowhere. Gotta have someone else setup when he isn’t.

    • Bottom of the lineup is pretty suspect. Announcers today mentioned guys that they implied were only holding onto consistent starts due to playing good defense (Gretler)

    • Posted about this yesterday. Looking at the conference rankings heading into yesterday’s game they were 5th or lower in most categories on the offensive side of things. #1 in walks though which has been the catalyst. Not very often that you have a top ranked team in the middle of the pack on so many offensive areas. Need to find some help in bottom of the line-up.

  38. 9th inning anxiety not withstanding…………..a 3-1 week and still all alone in first place. That’ll do Beavs.

Now, sweep 4 games from those little pricks to the south this week.

  39. It should also be noted that with the win the Beavs secured the first berth in the inaugural Pac-12 conference tournament.

      • And shits gonna get real.

The last 3 series are vs the 2nd place team and the two teams tied for 3rd. All within 2 games of first. If they’re gonna win it, they’ll have to earn it.

They also won’t leave the state except for the 3 game series in Tucson.

        Beavs 15-6
        UCLA 14-7
        Arizona 13-8
        Oregon 13-8
        Stanford 12-9

  40. I would have preferred a shellacking but I’ll take what they give.

Pitching and defense have been on a nice streak lately. Last 7 games, runs allowed 3,0,1,2,2,1,1.

      • It’s all a delicate balancing act. So no real right answers. It all depends. Did they feel like they escaped with a win? Or were they in control the entire time?

I like a blowout here because it just relaxes the mental side. If they felt like they escaped, they might press when they don’t need to. There hasn’t been too many games if any where if felt like the team gave up.

        • Bet Melton feel like he escaped with a win.
          Agree, no real right answers.
I’m beginning to trust Mitch with the balancing act thing; couple good personnel moves lately that paid off (Gretler, Trosky, Bazanna, Smith, etc).

          • Bazzanna got the bench today to watch and learn according to Parker on the radio broadcast. He’s been struggling lately.

            Or something close to that.

          • Yup, you’re right. Mitch’s moves involve both putting guys in the lineup as well as moving guys (like in Bazanna’s case) out of the lineup.
Sometimes it’s rest, sometimes for education, sometimes it’s playing a hunch that a bench sitter is ready to break out. Other reason too. Bottom line is Mitch has put enough “superior athletes” on the field often enough to be on top of the PAC.
Next few weeks will test his mojo.

          • I don’t recall bazzana sitting a game yet this year. While it’s perhaps an “educational” opportunity perhaps it’s just better to get the guy a rest. Some of the offensive struggles might be due to some fatigue or just needing to refocus a bit.

          • I don’t recall ever not being on the Mitch Canham train. I was perfectly fine with the hire. My main concern has always been the Dorman hire. So far the jury is still out imo.

Although RIGHT NOW he’s making my opinion look like shit.

I’d rather be wrong and them winning than the opposite.

Truth be told I think the program will be just fine with Mitch in charge. It may take him a little time to come into his own but imo he does have that Casey fire in him. Time will tell.

  41. I’ll just leave this here……..

I’ll just leave this here :)

The plan for tomorrow should be Pfennings and Ben Ferrer. Hopefully that combo can get them to the late innings with a lead for Ryan Brown.

    You’re welcome

  42. Bullpen really showed up. Loved seeing both Carpenter and Brown fuck up then battle back with ace pitching. Brown ending it with 2 strikeouts on 6 pitches was filthy.

  43. 2

Been laid up in bed after having surgery to repair a broken bone in my foot this week so I am getting stir crazy and bored as shit. One can only watch so much TV. Thank god for Hydrocodone pills…………(used responsibly)

Looked at the ducks schedule. They’ve played 43 games. And only 15 of those have been on the road. 28 home games. 15 road games.

They’re only 8-7 in those road games. Which did include a very nice conference opening series win at sunken diamond.

They are no doubt a better program under Wasikowski. But methinks they’ve benefited from a home loaded schedule. And how in the fuck they have an RPI and SOS that high is beyond me with 8 home games against Ball State and St Johns. They did split 4 games in Eugene against UC Santa Barbara. Dropped 3 of 4 against San Diego to open the season. They did win a midweek game in Eugene vs Gonzaga. Other than that road series win at Stanford? The got swept at UCLA. Although all the games were decided by one run.

Point being, they’re good. But I don’t think they are anything special and should be feared. They’ve benefited from a home loaded schedule.

If the Beavs play their game, I think they’ll win 3 of 4 this week.

  44. Was Wheeler hurt? Fuchs in the dh spot quite a bit and he’s been pretty bad at the plate. Outside of top 4 or 5 spots, lower part of line-up has been not good…lacking consistency. Dukart has always struggled, Mason G was electric for 2 games and Trosky has been decent but limited reps. Gretler likely the most reliable but hasn’t gotten too many reps over the last month either.

  45. 3
    2

    The contenders final conference series……….

Beavs – vs Oregon, at Arizona, vs UCLA – brutal
UCLA – at UW, vs WSU, at OSU – favorable
Arizona – at USC, vs OSU, at Oregon – tough
Oregon – at OSU, at ASU, vs Arizona – tough
Stanford – vs Cal, at Utah, vs USC -very favorable

If I had to pick right now? I’d give the edge to UCLA despite them being a game back. And it may very well come down to that 3 game series in Corvallis to end the regular season.

to steal a quote from Chad Johnson…..”Get your popcorn”

and your heart medications. Should be fun. And nerve wracking.

    • Let’s assume UCLA goes 5-1 vs UW and WSU and Beavs go 3-3 vs Oregon and Arizona. UCLA would have 1 game lead coming into Corvallis at the end of the year. Winner of this series would likely be your P12 champ since Beavs would hold the tie breaker in head to head if they won the series. That could change if there was a 3 way tie. So, yes UCLA is in a strong position but I think the Beavs still have to be the favorite at this point having UCLA at home. The series vs Ducks is huge. Absolutely have to have 2 of 3 and I’d say they can’t afford to waste pitching in Tuesday’s non conference game vs Ducks. In the grand scheme of things, this game has very little importance.

  46. A bit of analysis on BJ Baylor to Packers:

Baylor going to have to learn there is no/little loyalty in NFL.

I think that is part o fit but like I posted on the other thread, I don’t know if this is a new thing or not but I heard Rueck was a jerk to a recruit and some current players. I don’t know if it was a tough love thing or any of the players that left. you saw Tali and AJ post messages about staying committed to the program. Greta didn’t seem to be the 5 star we thought she would be and Brown didn’t really develop. Jones hurts.

      • in any case, it’s not a good look for the program and it wasn’t just players leaving, it was coaches too.

Barnes needs to take a deep look into the program to see if there is anything going on below the surface. Because if there is, its better to catch it now before it blows up in his face. A valuable lesson from the prior coach’s regime.

        • I don’t think Barnes snooping around would be part of any solution. Rueck is the guy to trust and back the most of all of the major sports at OSU. If no one is concerned about Tinkle’s debacle regarding the transfer portal, why all of a sudden become suspicious of Rueck? Perhaps Rueck missed on a few players just as some claim has happened to Tinkle. Give it a rest or fire Tinkle before you go snooping around Rueck’s program looking for problems.

Agree but there have been some high profile players leaving. Then you wonder why Goodman left early. I get it if players that aren’t getting playing time are leaving but the pg a few years ago, Jones, Corosdale. Somethings up. Let’s see how he fixes it.

I thought this was the first season Rueck underachieved with the talent he had or else the talent did not deserve the stars they received. Maybe a source of some frustration with him? He can’t really play the family atmosphere card any longer either, although it’s not like a lot of coaches can in this school hopping environment.

    • Kennedy brown went to NC…it’s about 200 miles closer to kansas so I don’t think that theory works for her but other 2 are obviously much closer.

    • Some interesting quotes in there:

      On MBB last season:
“There are a lot of contributing factors…The transfer portal, our inability to evaluate and meet recruits personally. Now, everybody had the same problem, that (recruits) couldn’t be brought to campus. But I will say, with Wayne’s coaching philosophy and what he looks for, it’s even more important that the fit is right. Obviously, we missed there. We made some mistakes. Chemistry never came together, and ultimately, that’s the coach’s responsibility

      On Rueck:
“We all have to adapt and make changes in how we coach, how we lead, how we connect with student-athletes. I know Scott is working on that.”

I wonder with Rueck and the current state of the transfer portal if this is the trade off of bringing in loaded classes of 4 and five star athletes. Every player now has to extrapolate where they will be when the next loaded group comes in and if they get negative feedback they are gone.

      ^This^
Even high level women competitors have egos, Rueck had a great run of finding self-less team first rosters until the 5 stars began landing in Corvallis. It is the fine line of the most talent/least selfish high caliber, high character players that Rueck needs to find.

Rueck needs 4/5 star to maintain and he has a roadblock of limited options who want to buy into the team first approach.
