  1. Mike Parker is reporting that Ben Wetzler will start for the Beavers tonight. Interesting choice, but it was going to be no matter who Casey picked.

    • Yikes. That’s probably the worst possible choice.

At least it’ll be over fast, and we won’t have to waste much of our night.

  2. Another weird thing going on tonight: Oregon State is the home team, so they’ll be batting 2nd, according to both Parker and the online GameTracker. I don’t get why the NCAA does this, it really doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

  3. Is this even worth watching? I recorded last nights game, watched the whole thing on fast forward after the 4th inning. I think this one will make me want to tear my eyeballs out.

      • Andrew has been the better hitter, it hasn’t been close. Parker struggled for much of Pac-10 play. However, since Andrew’s return Parker has been better. Andrew has had some good games but has mostly struggled. Timing has been way off. He can’t catch up to the fastballs right now and is early on the breaking balls, worst place for a hitter. Hopefully Andrew figures things out quickly.

    • Good news is, Casey finally moved Susac out of the cleanup spot. Bad news is, he still struck out in a big spot. ><

  4. I said Wetzler would get a start, I’m not surprised he got this start. Casey loves the guy but he’s just bad right now. He’ll be better next year but he shouldn’t have gotten this start. Schultz earned this start but just isn’t gonna get it. Maybe tomorrow? I doubt it though.

  5. Garvin doesn’t have his usual good stuff. Balls are being left up and he’s quite hittable, Beavers need to take advantage.

  6. Barnes with the bonehead decision of the night so far as he bunts with two outs and the pitcher catches it. Casey should have bunted with Rodriguez. You can’t leave it up to the players to hit the ball to the right side. Really bad inning after Bell doubled.

    • Agreed. Garvin’s only going to give you so many chances to score. Bit of a dilemma here with his cleanup hitter coming up in Kavin Keyes, though.

  7. It might be time to think about moving Berberet behind the plate and putting Hayes at 1B. Susac is just not getting it done. His timing is so poor right now, can’t wait for him to come around.

  8. Unofficial pitch count through 3 innings, Wetzler with 52 pitches, Garvin with 62. The run production is disappointing, but they are working the count much better tonight.

  9. Barnes is playing WAY too deep. Needs to play up more. If he does he may throw out the runner at third. Wetzler in trouble yet again.

    • Anyone could tell Wetzler was a bad choice. He’s been flirting with disaster all game. Didn’t understand why he would get this start.

  10. Report from the Beaver Sports Radio Network: if OSU manages to force a Game 3, it will be at 1 pm Pacific Daylight Time tomorrow. Not putting the cart before the horse, you understand, but thought it was worth mentioning.

  11. Outfielders need to play closer. Nash was playing so deep and it may have cost the Beavers a run. If he plays normal depth it may have been shallow enough for him to have a good shot to throw the runner out at home plate.

  12. Dunn with a lead-off double. Great start to the inning. Fortunate to be playing in that ball park. Most other ball parks that is caught.

  13. Keyes has to move Dunn along. He takes an awful approach and makes a completely unproductive out and Dunn stays at second. Casey needs to bunt these guys in those situations now. Can’t trust them to get it done without bunting.

    • Rodriguez did the same earlier…they’re pull happy…don’t appear to know how to go the other way with a productive out (or a hit). Tyler Smith was very good at that…miss it.

  14. Only funny thing I’ve ever heard Mike Parker say . . . not quite sure what Susac did at the plate, but Parker said that Susac was so indecisive he couldn’t even figure out what to do with a walk.

  15. How many opportunties are we blowing? >< We've had plenty of chances to score with less than two outs and haven't done it.

  16. Whenever there is a runner on third the Beavers seem to tense up and melt down. That at-bat by Carter was awful. Anyone else notice the outfielders for Vandy are in good position and the Beavers’ outfielders are way out of position. I get the Beavers are not used to this place but the coaching staff puts them in bad spots.

    • Beavs are playing tight when they’re the team with nothing to lose.
Vandy’s hitters go with the pitch…probably why they’re having more success and going to Omaha. Beavs are so pull happy.

    • Mike Parker made the comment that Susac didn’t give the umpire a good look at the pitch before bluffing the runner back to 3rd, otherwise it might have been called a strike.

  17. Well, I know who I will be rooting against in Omaha…

These snaggle-toothed inbreds are the worst fans I’ve ever witnessed.

  18. Beavers really have nobody to blame for a potential loss than themselves tonight. If I told you going into this weekend that Ben Wetzler would pitch better than either Sam Gaviglio or Scott Schultz…?

  19. Well, it’s been a nice ride this season, next year’s club will be better. Can’t be too upset about the year ending in the super regionals. Future is bright.

  20. As has always seemed to be the case, really need some big hitters. Small ball tends to get old, esp. when you have no choice. When your 2 leading and only .300 hitters are true freshman…enough said.

  21. Westlake is a one-man wrecking crew tonight, I have no idea why anybody is still trying to pitch to him, i think that’s 3 home runs for him in one night, which is just ridiculous.

        • they are good, this was supposed to happen. getting swept by UO hurts much more than this, esp. to someone like me who got my Masters there and has to hear from all my UO friends, including a certain hall of fame Charger QB who was my city league basketball and softball team mate when he was an undergrad there. This hurts, but not nearly as much as losing 4 of 5 to UO. Not to mention football and basketball. just awful.

        • The ironic thing is that I doubt many of their players are even from Tennesee and the cornholes that root for them have maybe a third of the IQ of the players. I could hear one idiot screaming “pick him off first” over and over and the Beaver on first hardly even had a lead.

  22. We blew it in Game 3 at Washington. Pac-10 title and hosting a Super Regional. Been a good year, but we all really wanted to be in the CWS ths year and open up the new Omaha Stadium. Going to have to come back stronger next year. See you all then for Beavers Baseball.

  23. I hate the dog pile after making the CWS. That’s not a reason to go crazy with a celebration. It should only happen when you win a national title. The goal is to win a national title not just make the CWS.

  24. I wasn’t even able to watch either game, though I listened to Friday night’s until the fourth inning. Very odd series from OSU’s perspective, I think. Not at all what I expected. Fortunately for me, I wasn’t expecting OSU to win this weekend and so I’m not bummed that they lost. When I turned off the game on Friday, it was because the game was boring, not frustrating.

The team did better than I expected to, and I’m glad for that. They had good opportunities to do even better, and didn’t sieze them. Regardless, this season leaves me with a good feeling. And depending on who decides to return from the draft, next season should be even better. I like what a lot of the freshmen showed they’re capable of.

Thanks for the great discussions, everybody. I’ll see you when basketball starts again.

      • Heh. It’s actually that I don’t enjoy watching football much anymore. It’s hard for me to look past the brain injuries. I’ll probably still watch the Civil War and if OSU goes to a good bowl game, I’ll watch that too.

  25. So, Omaha is going to be invaded by southern inbreeding not seen since the civil war…not only will I likeley not attend, but I may not even watch if there is not one team from the west. Maybe it is best if the Missouri floods the downtown area.

    • I think Cal advances today, so there will be one west team for sure. ASU can also advance today. Other than those two the rest would be southern schools(throwing UVA in there). If Mississippi State advances can you imagine all the inbreds at a possible Vandy-MSU game?

      • can you imagine all the inbreds at a possible Vandy-MSU game?

You know that game 6 degrees of separation?
It would be like that only with 5 fewer degrees.
