  1. Beavers just aren’t having the right approach today. No aggressiveness whatever and aren’t making contact. Have struck out 8 times in 4 innings.

    • No, this is a special case. They want to get the two games done as quickly as possible before it becomes dark because they don’t have lights I believe.

  2. Nice move by Casey getting Boyd back in there.
Is Conforto so bad on defense that it’s preventing him from cracking the lineup? The Beavs lineup is weak right now.

    • Right now the lineup is struggling a bit because the young guys are having issues adjusting so far, they’ll pick it up though. It’s still early in the season, guys like Jake Rodriguez, Danny Hayes and Ryan Dunn will pick it up soon

  3. Tommasini killing them in the field this series. Gotta play Smith there–he is automatic.

3 unearned runs so far. Inning should have been over.

  4. jake rodriguez guns down mahle trying to take 2nd on pitch in the dirt to end the third. maybe misguided but im pretty impressed by him minus the strikeouts so far.

  5. Only going by the play by play description but on a few plays it sounded like his arm is questionable. UCSB appeared to believe they could steal against him, which they did and the throw to third sounded a bit wild too. But this is just the description by the announcer.

    • What I saw yesterday: Jake has a weak arm (for a catcher)…but pretty accurate and a quick release. I think the quick release makes up for the weak arm. I watched him closely “throwing down” to 2nd after the pitcher warmed up and thought “how will this guy throw anyone out?”…a little later in the game he gunned a guy out at 2nd via both a quick release and accuracy.

      • Yeah. He’s been very hittable (9 hits/4innings)…some of those due to extended innings via errors, but still. On the flip side, only 1ER is impressive. Personally, feel like Casey left him in too long. If I’m a coach and see an inferior opponent making that much contact I take him out.

    • Yeah, that was weak. Get 1 on the wild pitch. Inching closer. I feel if they can hold SB at 8 they have a (long) shot, because SB’s pen isn’t any good. Disappointing that they couldn’t get a clutch hit. They had the same problem last year, though. It’s the downside of bunting/sacrificing so much. One less shot at a hit.

  6. Montgomery and Rodriguez don’t come through, remains 8-7. With how the UCSB bullpen is struggling, if the Beavers pitching staff can just keep them off the scoreboard, I like the Beavers chances at pulling this one out.

    • Thanks, mate.
Yeah, they are really bad. The starters aren’t very good, either. If they win this game, I’m going show up tomorrow and schmooze my way into a ticket.

  7. definitely nice to get three more runs, but its shitty not to get more with the bases loaded and no outs. that’s happened a couple times this series now.

  8. Not sure who this Fielding character is, but I’m not impressed. Why isn’t Boyd facing the lefties? He can’t pitch in game 2 but Bryant can?

First second guess of Casey this year.

      • Okay, but if he’s willing to bring in Bryant after Fielding blows the lead, why not bring him in before? Fielding can’t be the guy there…Brocker was dominant yesterday, too. I’d rather have seen him there.

      • I’m betting Carlos Rodriguez goes more than Boyd with how much Matt has pitched so far. I think they’ll try to avoid using him. I hope they come out and throw up a big inning and wrap things up quickly. I think Wilkerson is starting the final game of the series.

  9. Oregon State needs to find a way to beat Cal tonight. CR must step up his game as well. It will be nice if Jared can outshine Jorge and further his statistical gap over Guiterrez but most importantly the Beavers have to fight for the ‘W’.
