  1. Conforto two run shot! 6-0 Beavers. Man, he’s been so good so far this season. Also, amazing how much more relaxed the offense is when the starting pitcher can actually keep a team off the scoreboard for a couple innings.

  2. Boyd coming in for Wilkerson who gave up 5 hits and 2 runs in 2+ innings. Casey doesn’t have much patience with his pitchers these days.

  3. The ducks put up 4 runs in the 6th and hold on to sweep Vandy today. Final 7-6. Vandy had the tying run at 3B and the go ahead run at 1B in the 9th with two out but the duck pitcher fanned him.

  4. Barnes makes what sounds like a great catch……deja vu?
He left his feet several times last year, sometimes with poor results, gotta applaud his effort. Maybe he will be smarter this year (coaching?).

    • its nice having a closer of that caliber, but doesn’t help much when the starter is getting shellacked. A guy that can pitch 6-7 innings a week (as astarting pitcher) adds more value to the team than a guy that pitches two innings. looks like mover they need to make, though casey may still be trying to figure out how can play on gameday.

    • Maybe he’s a better pitcher now but what I remember when he started was that he was very effective the first time through but the hitters started to figure him out after that.

      • I’d have to go back and look at the stats, but I think he went into the 6th inning of every start, and gave quality starts almost every time. So, probably 3rd time through. He needs stamina…that could be part of the problem. I know Boyd has wanted to be a started for several years.

        • Boyd has started two games in his career.

I was as high on Boyd as a player as I am now on Davis. I think he should have been our RF last year. I absolutely love him as the setup man. But I don’t think his fielding abilities conflict with that role.

Now we get to see if Davis gets the same treatment. I would love nothing more than to have Boyd and Davis in the line-up swinging every day while also being available for mop-up duty on the mound.

          I doubt we see this.

  5. Boyd tires and gives way to Brocker. Matt gives up a dinger to RFwith two out, after a single through the hole he’s done for the day. It seems like he threw a lot of pitches for his 4.2 innings of work.

  6. I have not been happy with Casey’s pitching rotation thus far.

If this is the best we got, then we’re screwed.

Now I feel I need to argue that Casey is no relation to anyone who lives in the White House in order to make some silly argument about his job status.

  7. I am not happy that the competitive bats on our roster are not being utilized. And i am equally upset that our good arms are sidelined while lesser talents with “experience” are getting the nod.

Now is the time to run the frosh out there. If someone looks rusty in the field but has a live bat, then putting them in the field is the answer. I just don’t understand being overly conservative in college baseball.

  8. This seems to be a good place to post a question I raised yesterday.

I don’t follow baseball that closely so this is just something I’m wondering about out of curiosity.

Is there any correlation between how well OSU baseball played and who the coaches were? In particular I’m wondering if losing Dan Spencer to Texas Tech was a bigger loss than we thought. He seems to have Texas Tech headed in the right direction. http://www.texastech.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/spencer_dan00.html

    Like I said, just wondering.
