  1. Sluggish effort on the defensive side, up 17-16 with about 9 minutes left. Quin getting to all the loose balls and rebounds so far. Payton with 2 fouls.

  2. This has been really ugly so far. Beavers can barely buy a bucket, lots of fouls, some poor closeouts on the defensive end. GPII already has 3 fouls. Gonna need to change it up.

  3. Beavs are in some trouble down 6 at halftime. Some Quinn dude has 20 points and you can’t use Payton to shut him down with his 3 fouls. Payton really needs to focus on no stupid fouls in league play.

  4. I expect Tinkle to get them to come out inspired in the second half. Need to do a much better job on the defensive boards and not forcing up shots on the drive.

    • Probably should stop posting up Gomis so much too. He’s not gonna score much 1 on 1 on the block. Low percentage play. Gotta see more pick and pop with Duvivier and Olaf and some Olaf down low.

  5. Beavers are going to lose this one. No offense today. Zero pts from Payton and only 4 from Robbins. They are just out of sorts all game today.

  6. I don’t get why you don’t run something for quick 3’s. They did it against Auburn. There’s no time for drives, especially when they are defended.

  7. Gosh they have been so bad today. Nothing looks right. The offense is lethargic, the defense is doing only okay, and the rebounding is poor. QU is a solid rebounding team in their own right, however, let’s not forget that.

Wtf is Reid’s problem? Why did he try to go coast to coast like that? Why did GPII give it up to Sanders? This is the kind of game I expected before the year started, not the game I expected after that stellar outing vs. DePaul.

    • Actually, the play by play guy wasn’t too bad today interestingly enough. One of the least homerish announcers I’ve heard in a long time for the majority of the broadcast. They knew enough about our team and made some good observations to really sound decent.

      • Yeah, he was calling out one of their players for not showing up today…Drame? But he ended up hitting a big shot. He also said something about Payton no showing and could see it in his on court demeanor. They actually knew that Sanders was a football player unlike O”Neil and Callabro.

  8. That cross country flight and early start time are tough. You can say it’s all mental, but having been through it many times for work, it’s not easy to be on your game this early in the day.

  9. Selfish I know, but I really wanted the story to continue and get 10 wins in the non-conference. I thought this might be a trap game with the cross country travel. I also thought Quin’s rebounds per game were a fluke based on the competition, but they rebound hard. Hopefully a lesson learned, UC Santa Barbara will be a tough test.

  10. A result of this game is the coaches have all sorts of teaching opportunities.

I got the feeling that WT was letting them play just to see what they have and haven’t learned.

    More learning to be done.

    • I listened to the post-game with Parker…it sounded to me like Tinkle was NOT happy at all with the effort today. And that is deserved, other than decent defense the Beavs played very poorly.

But to keep things in the proper perspective, before the season started I figured they would be 0-11 at this point in the season. and 0-31 at the end (counting Pac-12 Tourney).

      A very pleasant surprise!

      Go Beavs

      • Trusting Jack’s analysis of these players and their potential, I knew they were not going to lose every game, but I didn’t think they would start 8-2 either.

        • I understand…and I admit I was very down on the season but it didn’t keep me from getting season tickets!

What I didn’t factor in was Wayne Tinkle and coaches doing the wonderful job they’ve done to now.

          • Lack of experience, lack of depth, and probably poor in fundamentals after the CR tenure, combine to give a low expectation. So far they IMO are way OVERachieving. Winning some just on effort….

    • So true! I just want coaches to say they’ll stick around as long as it serves their interests, just like we expect with any other job. It would be refreshing.

  11. OT: Anybody have any insights or perspectives on the line coaches that Andersen has hired? I expect – hope for – an upgrade over Cav, if for no other reason than I think players had tuned him out years ago, but I have not seen any information on the incoming coaches yet.

  12. Mike Remmers’ recent emergence as a top-tier NFL tackle is a major knock on Cav, IMO.

That, combined with 6 years of poor performance on the O-line…his coaching ability is starting to look very suspect. You could be right about a lot of players just tuning him out.

I think that Riley’s staff was pretty successful at maximizing their players’ potential. The exceptions to that rule in my estimation are on the O-line and special teams (Hekker = prime example).

    • I never thought Hekker was that good. Weird kicks behind himself and consistent shanks….. With the occasional fake punt throw that sometimes works.

I honestly I’m surprised he has been in the NFL as long as he has.

      • He just earned a massive contract extension. Biggest contract ever for a punter.

And to get there, he’s been nearly perfect at his craft. And that includes looking great throwing the football in fake plays. Again, that’s why the situation looks like bad coaching. Looked bad in college, looks great in the NFL.

  13. Sounds as if this win by Quinnipac is being called the biggest win in their program history.

I think we’re bound to have the occasional clunker with this roster. Bottom line is we’re playing better ball, actual defense, and hopefully the recruiting will pay off.

I’d like to see this team when Tinkles players are running Tinkles system on the floor. I’m already way more excited about this team than the last few, not because of the individual talent but because of how they’re playing win or lose.
