  1. 2 of the 3 freshman need to have solid games to get a win tonight. Tinkle has been consistent lately but Eubanks and Thompson have been getting lost in the shuffle.

    • In conference play Thompson is averaging 11.3 ppg and shooting 48.1% from the field and 50% from three. Only reason he isn’t scoring 15 a night is cause he doesn’t get the playing time he should. He needs to be playing 25 minutes per game at least

      • Some sneezing noise worthy of getting ill enough to think of creating a sneezing noise in the first place… might be appropriate.

        Then again, words are words.

  2. Vegas favors Buffs by 4 1/2.
Anybody watched them play this year? Beat Stanford but lost to Cal and Utah. I feel like the altitude affects OSU every time we’ve played there partially because past teams lacked bench depth.

    • Sounds about right. The line probably was affected considerably by OSU’s road record last year.

At home, the Beavs would probably be favored by 8 or 9 points.

      • Seems like this game would be an early barometer to gauge if OSU will be an NCAA or an NIT caliber team. There won’t be many better opportunities to “steal” a road game. Lose both weekend games and I feel like we’re at NIT level at best.

Still weird to not see any road games against the WA schools on the schedule, yet we travel to the Arizonas and the SoCals

  3. I see this as a huge game for both programs. So I think it favors the Home team here. OSU has won on the road this year, but its the first pac12 road contest, new environment for the freshmen. We need big time games from our Seniors, us against the world effort. Boulder is a tough place to play.

Colorado this is a must win game for them, much like any other team in the Pac12 you gotta win your home games. Dropping this one to the Beavs would be brutual for them. I got feeling that they will be very ready for this game and will clawing for the victory. They will have the crowd, elevation, and refs probably behind them to give them that extra boost needed for tight games.

Beavers have their work cut out for themselves tonight. Road wins will be at a premium this year. They will need contributions from everybody, will need to hit the boards every time down. They will also have to limit their turnovers, play within themselves and try not to get rattled. Finally, hit their free throws at a high percentage misses at the line might as well be turnovers.

I would be extremely happy with a split, but I expect two losses.

    • Excellent points! You never know how freshman will perform. They looked pretty good last game but consistency is usually not a strength of freshman. It would be huge to get a win but I agree with beaverkman we shouldn’t expect that kind of performance especially on the road. Can’t wait to see this team late in season, should be fun

  4. FOOTBALL: The grades are in. Third consecutive quarter breaking the OSU all-time football GPA record!
19 players on the Honor Roll.

Hmmm, what happened about 3 quarters ago that might help explain this improvement? Maybe the same thing that caused Peko to become eligible after floundering the previous year?

    • I don’t even know why we bother to play? The computer’s got it figured out. I’m going to make a prediction purely based on my own fan bias and little knowledge of the opposing team. Just because I am a totally unpredictable yet rational human being. 80-72 Beavs.

  5. Ran into Coach Tinkle at Squirrel’s Saturday night after the game, (at the urinals of all places) shared a piss and chatted a bit. Guy actually asked how MY day was… Good dude, was having a good time. Nothing to do with the game tonight, just a side note…

  6. did anyone else besides GP2 show up? Eubanks with the miss on a dunk? Are you kidding me??? Lucky to only be down 4 with the Buffs shooting lights out from 3 pt land. Creating turnovers is the only thing that kept the Beavs in it.

  7. Ridiculous. Olaf didn’t even jump giving up that offensive rebound then commits the foul? I’ve never seen a 6’10” guy more afraid to battle for a rebound.

  8. Someone other than GP2 needs to step up and just get a damn rebound. They play a good set d and then don’t secure the defensive rebound.

  9. The GP2 show is fun to watch, but we need a couple of these open threes to fall. I understand STjr is a frosh, but he’s gotta have the poise to hit these. Considering that he was playing in big games in the open division last year in California, I always thought he’d be more unconscious than he is.

  10. Duvivier wide open 3 goes in and out. Story of the night for everyone besides GP2. Have the Beavs even made a 3 in this game???

Edit: Right after I type that Thompson Jr finally nails one

  11. Players not named GP2 have made one shot in the 2nd half. His teammates deserve to be called out for this pathetic display. Without GP2 being as incredible as he is, this would be a beat down. Eubanks needs to be removed from the starting lineup. N’Diaye deserves his shot. Eubanks right now is just too soft to be relied on to do much of anything

    • Olaf should not be starting either. Awful D and he refuses to battle for rebounds. There’s a reason he’s been referred to as Softenaar

  12. that’s about the 3rd goal tend on the Buffs that has not been called. I fail to understand how this team plays well at home and so piss poor on the road in conference play. Same as last year

  13. This performance makes me think NIT will be a good year.

Normal up and down of a young team, I guess, but they look like they have performance anxiety and are absolutely clueless.

    • All except we start three seniors, 1 junior, and 1 freshman. We just don’t get much at all on the O side from the upper classmen, GP II excepted of course. I’d move Duvivier to the bench, he’s just woeful offensively, and LMW ain’t much better. Give the freshman trial-by-fire.

      • That was different. Scott and Wesley pushed underneath with their legs and hips. That’s hoops. And they still left GP2 open for his timing boards.

SU was shoving and grabbing and pulling with their arms, and GP2 was getting pushed from behind when he jumped for those timing boards. That’s crap.

  14. Other than Josh Scott and him being allowed to do whatever he wanted to down low, I’m not impressed with Colorado and think the Beavs run them out of the gym at Gill. What a fucking clunker. Very disappointed really no one other than GP2 came to play tonight. With 12 min left the Beavs led 38-37 and get outscored 34-15 the rest of the way. In 12+ minutes they allowed the Buffs to score almost as many points as they had in the first 28 minutes of the game. Let that sink in.

    • It looked like some of the Beav inside players gave up, but also how the fuck does Scott play like he plays and only have two fouls the entire game? That was some weird ass officiating.

    • The refs started calling a completely different game when we took the lead. There was a foul on every possession for about six possessions in a row. And they were in the bonus. To their credit, the refs called it both ways. But it took our D away and let them score while disrupting any game flow that was built in the first three quarters of the game.

I don’t think we would have won because mile high was going to take the young legs eventually. Although, the frosh did show some promise late, too late. I expected the long cold stretches and flat feet late.

  15. I kind of thought that when Thompson missed that wide open three with the Beavs up 38-37 all momentum died. I know three’s are not a given, but you have to bury that one, Payton made a great pass. I don’t know what type of offense they were running tonight either, it looked very jagged and jumbled. What’s wrong with speading out three point shooters like Tinkle and Thompson and have Payton penetrate and kick? I might have even played Bruce, Payton, Tinkle, Thompson and Gomis as a line up.

  16. I know the Pac is deep this year and this was only one game but much like last year does anyone realistically think the Beavs can beat someone on the road other than WSU? ASU maybe??

  17. Also, am out to lunch in finding Adrain Branch annoying and cliched? He just spouts what we already know over and over. Also, these ESPNU broadcasts seem to be low rent. I thought a couple of the CU blocks were at least borderline goal tends and there was no detailed replay and the broadcasters didn’t even mention the possiblity.

  18. Gary Payton II did all he could but looked like he got tired later in the game cause of how much he had to do on both ends to keep the Beavers in it. GPII had all of their assists, scored just under half their points, 10 more rebounds than the 2nd highest Beaver, made 9 of their 15 free throws and made 1 of their 3 three pointers. He did everything he could but got zero help. \

Schaftenaar, Duvivier, Eubanks and LMW did absolutely nothing tonight. LMW had a good game against Oregon but in the three games since hasn’t even made a shot. Pretty much the exact same story for Schaftenaar. Eubanks in Pac-12 play has provided basically nothing on both ends. He always looks lost on the floor. He plays much smaller than his size. He just never seems like a guy with a high basketball IQ. All 3 need to ride the bench. Having guys off the bench who can score is always nice, but starting off the games with your best 5 man unit makes a lot more sense.

At center I think Cheikh N’Diaye needs his opportunity. Every time he comes on the floor, Oregon State seems to play well. He’s a smart player and consistently shuts opponents down at the rim. He’s more offensively talented than he’s been allowed to show. In the Cal game, he took a defender off the bounce for a layup from near the three point line. For whatever reason, Wayne Tinkle has given him the shortest leash I’ve ever seen. He’s earned more minutes but hasn’t gotten them. Against Utah he should be inserted into the starting lineup. No reason not to reward him. Him not playing tonight was ridiculous.

Oregon State should roll out a Duvivier/Bruce-GP2-STJ-Tinkle-N’Diaye starting lineup against Utah and see what happens. Olaf and LMW will probably be pretty upset but they haven’t earned the right to still be starting. Stop playing like garbage and you wouldn’t have to worry about it. Gonna be a big test for Wayne Tinkle. Does he have it in him to ruffle a few feathers so this team can be a tournament team or does he continue to let the seniors drag this team down?

    • Eubanks looks completely lost on defense and has no post up game yet. He can run the floor and slam it, but that isn’t going to work against P-12 teams. I don’t get why Bruce is not playing either, good things seem to happen when he is in the game. Can’t he play point and get it to Payton on the wing or post? I like your line up, but I would get Gomis in there too and let him bang. He had Chiek have 10 fouls to give.

      • I don’t think Bruce has twigged on how to play basketball the way WT wants OSU to play basketball. He’s still not thinking team first and foremost.

        • I don’t know. I thought he showed a good feel for the game. He’s hit some threes, made some nice passes. I think he is a better player than Duvivier.

          • On the O, yes. But he’s a sieve on D.

Still, last night was a game where more fresh legs and O could have worked better than deflating their O with our D. There was an obvious change in game calls in the second half, and Bruce could have been the answer to that change.

  19. Looks like a one man team. Eubanks played like a baseball pitcher. ST keeps driving ang throwing up playground prayers. How about some jumpers off screens? Olaf looked like the normal, bad Olaf.
Seemed like we set a record for having our shots blocked.
The big kid from CU looked like he was about 40 and was the model for the Easter Island carvings.

  20. Over Reaction Thursday. It was a tough road loss, one which they Beavs were right for the most part, the final doesn’t represent the majority of the game. I agree with some of the posts here.

My thoughts, not shooting well from three land hurt us tonight, but Colorado did a nice job extending their defense. It looked like to me that the Beavs struggled with Colorado’s length on the inside, and didn’t look comfortable with shots in the lane. I am not sure what is wrong with Eubanks’ hand that was wrapped up but I think it was bothering him. His fast break missed slam he lost the ball, but should have had two hands on the ball and was bothered by the pressure.

I thought the first 25 minutes they rebounded well, but then they stopped team rebounding, some of this was due to going to a smaller lineup. At one time Reid was our biggest player on the court. The Freshmen bigs seemed slow to attacking the glass getting off the floor and not matching CU’s energy there.

CU did a good job of making us uncomfortable in our offensive sets, with only GP2 able to cut through the lanes. I really liked what Tinkle did early on with switching up his defenses, I thought it kept CU off balance. However, in the second half they couldn’t counter the effort for second half pts. The big for CU is good experienced player and took advantage of our youth there, so I wondered why we didn’t double more. I too want to see more N’daye I think he has shown a back to the basket game, was disappointed he didn’t see any action.

Overall, this game was going to be hard one to get, but this team is really not that far off. They just need some more production from the Seniors (excluding GP2). Those leaders have to be able to set the tone and get us out to a solid start. LMW, MD, and OS were not productive. Goomis still doesn’t look right, which is too bad because I think he could really help us.

I know Tinks wants to have a good bench, so I dont’ disagree with his lineup but he does need those guys to get more production. I think the next road game we will see a different team, and I am not ruling out a split but its going to require a full 40 minutes.

  21. Major problem I saw is the offense completely fell apart the last 5-6 minutes of the game, and switched to 1 on 1 rat ball. GP trying to do it all himself. All other players just driving and throwing shots up with reckless abandon, lobbing it up for easy blocks.

GP had Stevie and Tinkle wide open (like no defender within 7 feet) for 3’s several times, but just put his head down and took the ball straight into 3 defenders.

I kept expecting Tinkle to call a timeout and reign in the rat ball, but he didn’t and we continued to go 1 on 1 until the clock struck 0. Didn’t matter who had the rock (GP, Tinkle, Reid…), they quit playing as a team and got dominated at the end.

Going to be a lot of close games this year. PAC will eat itself alive.

  22. Actually, the last five or six minutes went away from GP2. He was trying to facilitate because it was obvious we needed treys to go down to be in the game. And his game is not from beyond the arc. So he was getting the ball to people in their spots, and they weren’t pulling the trigger, instead putting it on the floor and trying to do too much.

And when they did pull the trigger, they were mostly off.

edit: It was somewhat expected. That’s probably the best road game to start the year. I was happy for GP2 having the game he did on national TV. That performance probably solidified first round status for him. It’s just too bad nobody else picked up that energy and played with him. And he should have had four more points on goaltending. What was up with that?

      • One in each half.

edit: Now that I think about it, I think it was both in the second half. They were both slashes from opposite sides. The D was just late, and he hit the glass on both.

edit2: And those two goaltends were obvious. That’s why I have to ask what is up with that. You can call a bad game, but you have to call the obvious.

      • I hate that they do that. I like Chip Kelly as a football coach. He’s a friggin nerd. I can reason every decision he makes when they aren’t obvious mistakes, which I can also reason.

I think he was a horrible fit in Philly. But they had an owner who wanted to break the mold, and he threw money at it.

He actually left that team in really really good shape in terms of talent. If Coughlin took over that team, they would stomp the NFC East for a couple years.

But it also solidifies the NFC West as a forward thinking division. There are all types in this division. Carroll is a grinder. Arians will take shots at you. Chip will nerd you out.

And now the Rams are coming home.

Chip will have zero problems getting the players he wants, control or no. And he is a nerd in a land of nerds. It’s somewhat perfect so long as he embraces all of that. That’s another discussion.

  23. If there was any reason to believe any religion, this would be it.

    http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-moms/news/antonio-cromarties-wife-expecting-twins-following-his-vasectomy-w161508

Except I know one of the .015%.

And he won a lawsuit (easily) for the cost of raising his seventh child. He’s a great guy and hard working. I didn’t feel sorry for him for one second because he is just that great a guy. The kids he leads into this world will succeed. It is just what it is sometimes.

  24. The problem is that all the CR holdovers on this team are losers. They are used to losing and have developed the timid and careless loser’s mentality. The other problem is that most of these guys are older and thus, are in charge of leading this team along with GPII. This team can’t take the next step until that loser mentality leaves the program. Can’t wait for LMW, Olaf, Reid, Duvivier (still a Jr.?) to be gone. I’d add Gomis but he gets a pass for having glass bones

  25. And Chandler Jones walking into a precinct high on “synthetic” marijuana:

    1. Thank you Chandler Jones for doing the right thing. You were a shirtless black man, and you did the right thing.

    2. Kudos to the precinct who accepted him. With all the bad press cops have had, they did the right thing. Kudos.

    3. Stop calling whatever that stuff is “synthetic marijuana.” There is no story like this if it’s real marijuana. There is nothing but stupid mumbllings against the real thing. It’s not even worth the disussion. Just make it legal and deal with it… you stupid fucks.

  26. Utah taking on the chin tonight down 17. That doesn’t help us for Sunday, as they will need a win, so we will get there best shot.

    • Oregon won 77-59 with relative ease. It boggles the mind how Utah managed beat the defending national champs last month. This is not the same Utah team as last year and they are beatable.

      • And I think angry undersold the great+ count for him. I am also surprised.

angry went for Hunky Dory first.

I would have expected him to push Man Who Sold the World.

I linked another artist who took a lot of cues from that album.

          • I didn’t think puppet angry would make an appearance just for that pittance.

            Should I be honored?

Let’s make it clear. You just told me to shut the fuck up. Fuck your initials. You just said that. You meant that. You are that much less a person just because you meant that and felt you had to make all sorts of initials instead of just saying what the fuck you mean.

On the bright side, most of what you say is just bullshit that nobody in their right mind would say to their most hated toenail on a bad hair day.

So you got that going for you.

          • I plussed him cause I agree, Jack’s off his meds and on one of his irrelevant tangents again. The Utah game thread can’t get here soon enough

          • Post ’em paper eater!

            Post the rants… or rant.

You like nothing for music. So don’t post that lest you be a hypocrite. Just say something…. anything.

            Or don’t.

            See what I care.

I feel like I’ve written those exact same words before.

            Like it matters.

  27. Why so many awkward music videos? Jack there is help available. You post a lot.

Hoping to see a win at Utah, been really impressed by their center this year. Good opportunity for Eubanks.
