  1. Prairie View A&M – went 7-24 last year, finished #337 on Kenpom.com ratings. Currently #317.

Last year, they were okay on defense, forcing a lot of turnovers and defending the three pretty well and they bring back their three best players, power forward Admassu Williams, and guards Tevin Bellinger and Jaryn Johnson. On offense, they shoot the three about as poorly as anybody in the country and turn it over a ton.

Kenpom projects a 77-60 game and a 94% chance of winning. If we can outperform that, it’s a good start at least. Of course, projected winners don’t always pan out.

We should roll these fools though.

I’m thinking Tinks sets a goal somewhere around 60 points, 30/40% from the field and a double-digit advantage on the boards.

Then because we’re scoring well and performing well in our goals, coach will throw out the bench. And they will score around 70.

    92-67 Beavs

    – Drew with a 15/15 in limited time… G and Cheikh for another 15/10
    – Tres with a 15/10/5/5 line… and a couple blocks
    – Stacy with a 5/5/5/5 line… Stevie drops 20+ almost by accident
    – Jaquori struggles for double digits until the end
    – I need to see Dew play with this group

  3. Tres was the premier mbb in Montana high school – I guess it would be 2 years ago? – I believe Manuel played for one of the Billings teams (too lazy to look it up) and was considered an almost equally good player. As I understand it, Tres and Manuel became friends and when visiting OSU, Tinkle offered him a scholarship. There was an Oregonian story about it, I believe.

    • That’s how I remember it too. I want to say Manuel is a year older than Tinkle but spent a year in prep school prior to heading to college. WT knew him well and brought him in as project/depth type player. Appears it was a good gamble

      • Tres and KM were both 2015, but KM is a full year younger because he was advanced a grade. Because he was a tweener physically at that point, the usual thing to do is to stash him at a prep school and hope he signs on again the following year. Andrew Andrews did this with UW.

Because we had an extra slot, Tinks offered in order to stash him as a redshirt on the roster instead of waiting for a prep year.

  4. Ugly game, good one to Dvr. Defense caught in the air too often-got away with it tonight. Definitely a first game of the season look and feel

  5. Shouldn’t be a surprise that Manuel is good… Pretty sure he was the top player in Montana his senior year had to sit out last season because of injury

  6. Eggers with a brief update on the OSU AD hiring process:

“• Oregon State is moving along in its search to replace athletic director Todd Stansbury, who left in September to assume the same position at Georgia Tech.

The former application period has closed and a search firm, College Sports Solutions of Atlanta, is developing a pool of candidates.

“Our goal is to come up with a short list in the near future,” says Joey Spatafora, chairman of OSU’s 15-person search committee.

Spatafora expects the committee to interview five to eight candidates. ”

I think “former” is supposed to be “formal.” Anyone hearing names yet? Is this likely to be an internal hire?

  7. Eubanks looks bigger and stronger this year. I like his mean streak. Excited about the future of this team. First half of first period was shooting horrific but things got going good after that. Good to see Tres not set back from all the down time.

  8. Went to last night’s game, and again focused on JaQuori. Still committing too many careless turnovers, but otherwise making significant improvements already (now that he has gotten his feet at least a little wet in D1). JaQuori already may be the OSU player most capable of getting/making his own shot opportunities when the clock is winding down. His combination of handle, balance, body-control, and fluidity enable him to create enough separation from his defender to get off his shot. He seems to have good range on his jumper, and a relatively quick release. He also drove to the hoop more forcefully and effectively last night than in game 1 (especially to his strong side), and made some slick passes inside after penetrating. Still a work in progress, obviously, but very promising, especially on the offensive end.
