  1. Can’t say anything positive about that first half. I don’t get how they don’t have anything other than passing it around the perimeter until taking a 35 three.

  2. FUCLA whistled for 2 fouls in the first half. Beavs shoot zero FT’s.

If I were WT I’d have already been tossed out of the gym. Absolute BS

    • I agree with you, but the Beavs also haven’t done anything to drive or draw a foul. Pretty hard to get a whistle when they just stand around the outside.

      • Anything?

I’m listening on the radio so I haven’t seen one iota of the game but several times in the first half (per Parker) a beaver player was knocked to the floor driving to the basket.

        With 9 minutes left, FT’s………….

        UCLA 14-17
        Beavs 1-2

If I was WT I’d walk over to the scorers table at the next time out. Drop my pants in front of the refs, bend over and say if you’re going to fuck us how about I make it easier for you.

  3. UCLA can’t shoot like that for a full game. FS1 doesn’t solve the presence of a PAC12 ref crew. Tinkle called for a phantom foul on a missed dunk, Ethan hacked on a couple of drives for no-calls, Tinkle with a steal at mid-court that is called a kick-ball, UCLA guys all baby hop on a 3pt shot and get away with it.

I agree that the zone offense is horrific if this were a junior high team. How is Tres not flashing from the weak-side constantly at the high post? Baseline is always open and UCLA isn’t aggressive enough to trap in the corner, so high post to baseline is always open. Half-time adjustments coming?

    Go Beavs!

  4. I don’t know why I even watch this shit. These guys can’t finish from 2 feet, have hands made of concrete and just throw the ball all over the court. I have no idea how they’ve won 16 games.

    • Beavs usually have 3-4 players higher than free throw line, throw it around perimeter, baseline wide open…passes inside not used even though available.

Nobody else knows why we’re watching either…stands over half empty, this thread dead,

UCLA isn’t taking this game, Beavs giving it away. Beavs look like year 1 or 2 of tebuikd..

  5. I don’t understand the college continuation rule. Most games the call a foul on the floor with no basket if the guy makes another move, but that last call was counter to most foul calls i’ve seem all year, and of course benefits ucla

  6. Vernon 3 ties it and then STJ puts Beavs up 2. Getting hot at the right time and finishing strong. UCLA appears to have blown their wad early. About 1 minute left, Bruins ball after time.

  7. 28 UCLA freethrows to 3 OSU ones. Tinkle blew it not calling a timeout at the end there, too. Need to use your final timeout there and draw up a play to get the last bucket.

  8. Tinkle full court desperation heave at buzzer and he’s clearly fouled, no call.

Still, no excuse for the team not having a final play ready when down 1 in final possession, with a timeout available, where they settle for a Tinkle deep 3 airball. That was their chance

    • They should have called timeout at 8-10 seconds when it was obvious they didn’t have a play. I know the team wouldn’t be where they are without Tres, but he played poorly and selfishly down the stretch.

  9. should have saved timeout to advance ball to midcourt for last shot with one sec to go. Stupid timeout after missed FT by UCLA. those final two shots weren’t even close and all you needed was a two pointer to win not a three. Well, that’s the breaks I guess. Gave that game away at the end but this team showed lots of character coming back 3 times from 11 points down in the second half with about 11 minute to go. I think coach tinkle mismanaged the last two possessions though.

        • I don’t watch much womens hoops so idk if you can advance the ball to half court after a timeout. I do know that in mens college basketball you cannot.

I am seeing ignoramuses all over social media tonight questioning why WT didn’t call a TO and advance the ball to half court. Coaching 101.

Maybe because he knows the rules and you (not you mckalk) obviously don’t?

And I don’t like having to defend WT because I’ve soured on him as a coach. This team with this talent should not have 9 losses right now.

Part of that is coaching. Tonight a big part of that was one sided officiating. There is something seriously wrong when one team shoots 28 free throws and the other team only 3. UCLA was whistled for 8 personal fouls in the entire game. THE ENTIRE GAME!

        • yep, I realized my mistake a few minutes after posting comment. Ive been to 6-7 beavs WBB games so far and got the rule mixed up. Went to OSC game last night and Slocum 3 pointer with defender in her face with just 30 secs or so left was crazy. Why can’t the men shoot like that.

  10. If I’m Ethan Thompson I strongly consider grad transferring for my
Final year. He will always have to play off of tres while trying to fulfill pg duties when he isn’t a true point guard. Go somewhere and play as a shooting guard with a coach that can utilize your talents.

    • The team has a PG, his name is Vernon, he’s poised now, but think of how good he would be if WT had made the right call and played him from the beginning. Ethan will stay with Daddy. His final season will be without Tres anyway. I more worried about Vernon saying goodbye to the bullshit.

      • …think of how good he would be if WT had made the right call and played him from the beginning.
        Spot on.

The difference playing even 350 minutes vs the 245 Vernon has played simply has to have provided likely improvement.

        • He’s intelligent, safe with the ball. Nice stroke from three and deadly at the foul line. I’m sorry, but Reichle is a marginal D-1 player. Ethan needs to be playing that position and Vernon starting.

          • Reichle sucks and is a one trick pony. And right now he even sucks at that. Reminds me of Angelo Sockasuckus. Or whatever his last name was. Wasted scholarship.

          • Reichle’s fine for what we should expect of him. The problem is that Tinks expects too much from him. It may pay off at the end of the season, if he gets hot. He’s starting to warm up now.

While Tres is the undisputed MVP of most games, the secondary players are important. Hollins was the guy who helped to win the home CW. Almost everything bounced and fell right for him that day… because he moves with a purpose. He’s going to be fun to watch as an upperclassman.

Reichle is setting up to be the heat check guy… if he can start hitting them consistently.

Someone mentioned some info about Tres being hurt for the CW and maybe not playing. I think that was Washington. His limited minutes since the Cal game would explain that story line.

    • That was bizarre, college refs are usually sticklers about NOT allowing any form of continuation. It was absurdly one-sided officiating, but the Beavs still should have won. My guess is Boatwright will drain a shit ton of three’s on Saturday and it will be a lost road trip for the Beavs. I said in another thread that I will believe ten wins when I see it. It’s been 29 years since they have finished better than .500 in league play, almost three effing decades!

  11. ST Jr and Tres combined for 40 of the Beavs 67 points. Beavs usually go 9 deep on the roster. That means your other 7 players accounted for 27 points. Just under 4 PPG average. The other 3 starters had 6, 4 and 4 points.

Bench had 13 points between 4 players. Despite the FT disparity, that is not a winning formula. Or sharing the ball.

However, a couple of players on this team seem to have limited offensive capabilities. Their names rhyme with Reichle and Rokocevic.

I suppose it is entirely possible this team doesn’t have as much talent as I thought they did. Couple that with marginal coaching and well, you get what we see.

  12. Don’t really like linking boregonian shit here but there’s some real telling quotes from players in this article……………

    https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2019/02/free-throw-difference-has-oregon-states-wayne-tinkle-steamed-after-uclas-68-67-win.html

“They brought more physicality than we did, for sure. We faded a little when we were attacking the rim,” said OSU senior Stephen Thompson Jr., who led the Beavers with 21 points.

Said center Gligorije Rakocevic: “I would say we didn’t finish strong. We didn’t attack the rim.”

“There were a lot of plays we relaxed on and took for granted. Those plays come to haunt you in close games like this,” Thompson said.

“We just didn’t come out ready to play,” Rakocevic said.

“It was like we were playing keep away. We weren’t looking to attack the gaps in the zone,” Tinkle said. “Multiple times we were having to burp up shots at the end of shot clocks.”

“Again, I’m very frustrated,” Wayne Tinkle said. “But we shot ourselves in the foot multiple, multiple times. We have to learn how to defend without fouling on the road.”

Free throw disparity aside, Why? Why, why, why is this team more often than not unprepared at the beginning of games and come out flat???? Something is obviously broke. It’s either the game plan going in, the players not sticking to said plan or the failure by the coaching staff to adjust.

I have more thoughts on this but too frustrated tonight. That was a winnable game against a flailing team drifting in the sea without a rudder. And even despite the officiating you took the lead with less than two minutes to go and couldn’t hang on. If these guys could fucking coach or play worth two squirts of piss (they way they have shown they are capable) most of the time they’d be a tournament team.

    • Winnable game? We should have won by 30.

      This is my favorite:
“It was like we were playing keep away. We weren’t looking to attack the gaps in the zone,” Tinkle said. “Multiple times we were having to burp up shots at the end of shot clocks.”

Hmm… if only there was a person who had the power to yank leashes on the sideline… someone who could manage rotations so as to direct that kind of play. It’s too bad that person doesn’t exist.

One more loss (on top of this one and at least five others that should be wins), and it’s “Well, there’s always next year,” time.

The upgrade with Tinks has been only a couple points. CR was .469 overall, .362 in Pac play. Tinks is .480 and .388.

  13. So I had the interesting experience of watching the game a bar stool away from our AD.
Did not seem too upset with the loss and seemed to have a bit of the aw shucks we were close reaction. He was sitting with a guy that does fundraising and a Asst. AD, a young guy that came from Pitt when we hired him. I eavesdropped as best I could during the first half. Takeaways…..
Still talks to GA a bunch
Thinks he is a great coach and man.
I think this confirms it was mutual parting with both trying to protect the other.
Talking about the new recruits coming in, particularly the kid setting the CA scoring records.
NO reaction about Tres passing up a 5 footer in the lane with 8-9 seconds on the shot clock, so we can bleed off more time and be forced to take a desperation shot. Scoring is the important thing.
    POOR execution again.
It is amazing that the same shit is going on at MN, a player playing out of of position at the point and the solution sitting his ass on the pine. Coaches stubborn or stupid?

    • I guess a combination. I suppose WT would say that what he sees in practice dictates minutes on the floor, but I want to see more of Vernon. He’s a true PG, think of where he could be by now if he was playing 25 minutes a game?

  14. This current Nebraska at bat has to be the longest single at-bat i’ve ever seen/heard. Been full count for quite some time, with several foul balls, and Abel has been throwing over to 1st to keep the runner honest. Gonna wear out his arm before we get to the 4th inning.

    and he walks him…

  15. Abel with 10 Ks so far, along with 2 walks., but then a runner is allowed on base via an error (not sure who) and then a base hit to LF drives in the run. So no hitter is dead.

    5-1 Beavs, 1 out Top 6

    • The error was on Dukart for getting a ball struck in his cheek, but they now have reversed the error to a hit which gave the Huskers an Earned run. New pitcher top of the 6th. Dylan Pearce is the relief pitcher currently.

  16. Gretler appears to be the biggest loss to make up. He was so solid. Dukart has misplayed several balls and does not appear to have the arm strength of Gretler.
Abel was on. Looked great. Ump not giving the low strike. AR, another bomb.
Chamberlain was painting the plate in and out. Great play by Zac catching a fly in the Arkansas area.
Nebs starter was good. Their infield throws not so much.

  17. After an MBB-like start, WBB is down just one at the half.
A difference?……….no one’s minutes are guaranteed (except, maybe Pivec…for good reason).

    • There was a small ticket office set up at the main gate of the softball complex last year for the Oklahoma game. They’ll sell walk up tickets this year, but if you go to many of the games, a season ticket is only $50 and $30 for seniors. I enjoy softball I’m going with the season ticket. Softball is off to an 11-2 start and has a very good looking team this year.

      • @Old Yeller appreciate the info. I would like to support the program. Watching the women’s bball game tonight made me realize Beav fans are fortunate to have some great/successful programs to support. Good to know about the season ticket price. I hope they can keep it rolling.

  18. Rueck should be paid additionally and be a gameday assistant for the men. He would be a huge upgrade both in demeanor and game strategy over Tinkle’s malpractice of game prep, rotation disaster, preferential treatment and timeouts after made buckets that always kill a momentum building run. I also get tired of seeing them give up an open 3 on a big possession (as soon as Tinkle starts waving his arms…open 3 to silence the crowd).

Rueck and Casey are such a high standard of excellence and effuse an expectation of greatness. Unfortunately for Tinkle, he will be compared to their standard.

BTW, the bald ref from the UCLA game seemed on the take last night. No call went the Beavs way from him throughout the game. Fishy. They still should have won, but that guy proves how a ref can easily and consistently impact the course of the game.

    • Here we go again, comparing apples and oranges, then pretending we didn’t just compare apples and oranges in order to come to an irrational conclusion.

Do you all ever get tired of it?

        • Incorrect. The games are completely different. Scotty’s O would not be anything special on the men’s side. He would have to start all over and develop new systems. Could he do it? I have no doubt he could, given time. If you want to wait several years until his methods catch up to the speed of the mens game, that’s fair. But a one-for-one trade-off is not happening given all the disparities in the two very different games.

  19. UCLA WBB trailed by 22 at one point, but comes back to beat oregon at TTATT by 5. Beavs are 1 game closer to taking over the top spot in the Pac.
Anybody know the tiebreaker if the teams split head to head?

Beavs gotta worry about UCLA more than anything right now though.

  20. We didn’t but Rueck did; the pwo for twin brother, rumor of her high school coach coming with her, playing programs until the last minute . . . naah

  21. Anybody keeping track of the success of pinch hitters so far? I know Bailey was 3 for 3 in the first game and see that Fuchs got another pinch hit hit (RBI, to boot) yesterday.
Small sample and I’ve missed several innings but it seems the PH decisions have been an overall positive………so far.
    /////////// ///////////
ADD: WHOA ! In checking the box score from yesterday I find that Mark Buchanan was the 1b ump. If that name rings a bell, I’ll just ask if you can spell B E A K I N G. I’m, sure Casey can.
If normal rotation holds, Buchanan will be behind the plate today.

Hope fans are gentle, he is very sensitive!

  22. Ron Callan, the WBB play by play radio guy, has sung the national anthems of Canada and Germany for departing seniors. This Sunday he’ll sing the Polish na to honor senior Jo Grymek.
He will sing before the game and I doubt it will be on TV, but certainly worth getting to Gill early if you are going.

  23. Inning 2, For those wondering why Zack T plays, you should have seen the spectacular play on a pop up bunt. Dove and caught it halfway down the first base line. Nebraska then tried to steal on Adley. Perfect bullet right on target.

    • Nebraska corn peelers the school that keeps on giving:

You want Mr. Riley gone they’ll make that happen
You want players they giving them up
You want baseball wins they’ll give them

    • Yep you are right bunting has been a problem so far eye-roll.
No I know what you mean what else is there to point out.
starters not going deep..it is still earlier no problem there we’ll see if this is a problem later
I don’t me to be rude to the players but they are playing guys I have no idea whom they are or where on the team. This a good thing

    • BG, was that you at the game tonight with the Minnesota hat and orange jacket? Or maybe there’s more than one beavergopher out there.

  24. Pinch hitting in the b8: Meckler an IF single, Dukart an RBI single.
Is the degree of success of ph due to a wise Bailey? General talent? Caliber of the opposition? Time of the year?

On to the t9, 17-1, early start tomorrow

  25. 17-1, Sam T. gets the W and Walling a decent line in a short appearance.

And, the dastardly Mark Buchanan couldn’t do a thing about it……at least, he didn’t do a thing about it! But, he’ll likely be at 3b tomorrow, he’s especially dangerous there!

  26. OT – Patriots owner Robert Kraft charged with soliciting prostitution in a FLA massage parlor…if true, one would think someone this wealthy might have underlings arrange more discreet transactions in more upscale locations.

“The Orchids of Asia website lists “a variety of massage modalities”- including Thai, Swedish and Japanese massage, facials and reflexology – offered in “private, quiet and clean rooms”.

Police say the average cost of a one-hour visit to the spa is $79.

Mr Kerr said it was a surprise to learn the billionaire had attended the parlour, which is located in a row of shops beside a nail salon, a surf shop, a video-game store and a Thai restaurant. ”

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-47334897

    • This is the most mystifying part of it for me. You all are billionaires, and your need to have someone masturbate you is so great that you slum it in a strip mall in Florida… where it’s likely the Russian mafia is trafficking humans.

I mean… what the hell, people?

        • Ewww… Big Mac? When I was in college, and 2 for $2 was an option, it was better than ramen, for about three days. Special sauce gained new meaning.

        • I can hear Kraft now:: “Driver, drop me at the McDonald’s near the Thai massage parlor. I need, um, a Big Mac. Bad.”

Driver: “But sir, you could have steak au poivre in the privacy of your suite?”

          Kraft: Nope! Big mac. Now!”

      • Well, because he’s a friend of the POTUS, he can probably tell him a wall on the US/Mexcian border won’t stop this kind of illegal immigration of which he was just a victim, and that perhaps in conversations with Russia the POTUS or his shoe lickers could ask them to please stop this whole trafficking business….clearly they’re both invested in this issue. Although Kraft apparently invests $79 at a time…

    • I’ve suggested this before, but I really think it would be beneficial for Smith to take the football team to games like recent UO WBB @ OSU, or take them to a baseball game….”See, this is how a PROGRAM and a TEAM perform…” then discuss with them after what makes these programs/teams successful.

I don’t know how much of this kind of this cross program interaction occurs with this kind of intention. Hell, maybe even a good AD could facilitate it?

  27. Men’s bball pretty much guaranteed a winning conference record with yesterday’s win. Definitely locked into the nit, which is good.

If they can beat the Huskies in Seattle, they’ll have a decent shot to win the tourney next month.

  28. Preston Jones with his second double today to leadoff the b6, a foot inside the 3b line. A missed opportunity for Buchanan to cause a fuss.

    5-3 good guys.

EDIT/ADD: McGarry HR brings Jones home, 7-3 now. McGarry is hot hitting .577 and leading the Beavs in RBI’s

    • Jon Warren, does the weekday program with Mike Parker. I believe this is his third spring doing these games. Get used to it, he’ll likely do at least 8 more before Parker finishes with MBB.

I’d like to hear Ron Callan do these games but he is busy with WBB. You can sample his work at 1pm today, should be a great game vs Bruins. Important in national rankings, if you care about such things.

      • I’ll bet Jon would tell you he is a numbers guy. If you’ve ever listened to the weekday Joe Beaver Show he does with Parker, you’ll remember dozens of times he has explained the finer details of how difficult it is to coordinate the technical aspects of that production. Seems to believe he is an IT genius.

FWIW, nicebeaver has retweeted at the top of this page a tweet from Josh Worden. He is the support staff for the JBS and frequently fills in for either Jon or Mike; now this guy has a voice for radio and seems pretty sharp. He does some HS play by play and I look forward to the day he does a Beavs game. With just a little experience I think he’d best good old Jon. JMHO.

  29. Can’t believe McWilliams is a senior already…

23-5 while missing Tudor since WSU and with 9 players on the roster….

@ ASU will be a good one.

      • If you watched any beav sports this weekend you witnessed all wins by multiple programs. So yes I was using a little sarcasm. The topic has been bought up on here before about the Beavs dropping out of the pac and I think it’s a dumb topic to bring up. Usually comes up during football season. Osu is fantastic at many things including a variety of athletics and academics. Go Beavs!

        • It is a dumb topic when brought up, most of the time. What people don’t realize is that the Pac regents would sooner kick out an insufficient academic contributor to the conference than one who wins or loses at games of some kind. So there is some irony that those who troll here with that topic are most likely to be from the school most likely to be kicked out of the conference, if there were ever a reason for it to come to that.

Suffice it to say, the majority of the Pac would rather drop the sport of football than kick out OSU (or anyone, frankly).

  30. Anyone know if chad Johnson jr is coming to the spring game in connection with a possible offer? I read it’s unofficial and it seems like the Beavs never went after him like I thought they would.

@nicebeaver I haven’t seen you post anything about him and you are usually in the known so
I’m a bit suspicious it’s an attempt for him to drum up some attention.

    • We were the first team to offer him, i believe. But I’m skeptical he’ll end up a Beaver in the end. Was an ASU verbal commit, and apparently isn’t anymore. But who knows. Some guys love the attention recruiting brings.

  31. Beavs WBB not getting a very favorable seeding, at this point. 3 seed playing in the Albany, NY regional, matched up with the #1 overall seed, UCONN. 1st round would be in Corvallis, but sending them across the country as the only west coast team in that bracket seems like a crappy draw.

Oregon, by contrast, would play 1st round in Eugene as a #2 seed and then move to Portland for their regional, with Notre Dame as the top seed in that bracket.

    http://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/bracketology

    • No change from last week? Wins over ucks and bruins worth NO CHANGE!
      Gotta call BS on this!
I had to read it twice to see that it actually was posted this am, figured it wasn’t updated, but not so.

  32. Friday’s game v west Virginia should be a fun one to go to. WVU starting pitcher is a borderline first rounder.

Throws gas but only recently regarded as a top prospect.

  33. Woo hoo! I spent two hours on the old blue Ford 450. I forgot how much fun it is.

No power for another two to three days! Branches down all over the place. It’s a friggin mess out there.

    I love it.

      • This is the big12 being proactive to lockup arguably the weakest power5 conference in football. What looks better on a resume a win over an fcs school or a win over OSU? I know they’re kind of the same.
To me it sounds like this might be something that getting serious traction, as far as no more fcs schools or better resume building for the playoff push.

        • The ACC is by far the weakest P5 conference. It’s not even close. The Big12 and Pac were about equal… last year. It’s hard to tell what the SEC is, because their SOS is so very weak (while also overrated in order to inflate numbers).

    • Or each team from both conferences should schedule one FCS team and have the two remaining non-conference games be with teams from the other conference. That’ll ensure that each team has the opportunity to schedule 7 home games.

    • Wow. What a horrible idea. Add extra losses to both conferences and see no teams all year every year other than from those two conferences.

      No thanks.

  34. Lundeberg up with a podcast discussion of the mental aspects of baseball with Tyler Graham.
34 minutes of positivity and good advice. Graham may be the closet thing to a sports psychologist on staff.

He says 8-10 guys are using meditation on a daily basis, highlights the approach taken by Kevin Abel.

  35. The coach everyone hates in the BIG, just made a lot of fans happy……..because they agree.
Default SI: Fran McCaffery Calls Official a ‘Cheating Motherf—–‘ After Loss to Ohio State
    per SI:

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery wasn’t very pleased with the officiating during the No. 22 Hawkeyes’ 90–70 loss to Ohio State on Tuesday.

Down 78–67 with 4:08 left to play, the Hawkeyes’ frustrating evening culminated with two McCaffery technical fouls. The first was called on the coach’s son, Connor, then on Fran himself in a span of 58 seconds for disputing calls.

After the game, Fran McCaffery was heard screaming at an official walking down a hallway at Value City Arena.

“You cheating motherf——!” McCaffery reportedly yelled. “You’re a f—— disgrace!”

The Buckeyes were averaging 63.7 points in conference games entering Tuesday’s matchup. They had that many points with just over 10 minutes left to play against Iowa. Ohio State scored 22 points during one stretch of nine possessions to pull away in the second half. Iowa got no closer than 11 points to close out the game.

    • I guess he’s never seen Pac officials?

I mean, it may just be they’re incompetent boobs. We see that on the daily with anything played in the Pac 12.

  36. Baseball America’s #1 Vandy, #4 North Carolina, and #5 Florida all lost today.

…So expect those teams to maintain their same ranking and the teams that beat them to rise in the rankings.

    • Lost to Austin Peay, VCU, and UCF respectively. VCU is a decent program with last tournament appearance in 2015. And same with UCF, last appearance in 2017. Losing to Austin Peay is somewhat of an embarrassment, but good for them.

All good, need the bad guys to keep tallying up these mediocre losses.

  37. Ok I’m lazy and don’t want to write the ticket office but you think one can get tickets to Sat by walking up or better to see over the fence?
