Quinnipiac @ Oregon State

48

Sunday at 8pm, the mighty Quinnipiac visits Gil.

This is the last non-conference game, so it looks like the Beavers will go 8-4 versus horrible competition (#168 RPI). Hopefully Gary Payton II is half as good as his father, because right now the trend is clearly a slow decline, despite 5 years of “rebuilding”. With Nelson and Collier leaving I don’t see who will score. Jack and/or the two guys who still watch Beav hoops — are any of the underclassman ready to replace these guys?

  1. Replace losing to inferior competition? Nelson is not good for the “flow” of the offense. I actually thought Cooke was a nice change. I think they will be able to keep up to their current standard.

    • I’ve never been a big berto fan. Yeah, he can score but he is lazy on d and on offense never met a shot he didn’t like. If this team just learned to play some decent defense they could be a tourney team. But since our fearless leader knows nothing about playing defense, well you know the story.

  2. The only possible upside I can think of after the 4 leave is that there’s a shift to emphasize defense next year. The scorers will emerge out of an offense that might look more patient and disciplined like in CR’s first year. As we know, scoring all these points the last couple years doesn’t mean squat without D.

  3. Victor Robbins is suffering from a problem that needs to be treated by a professional. On top of it, he is going to be demoted. I am guessing he will either quit or transfer.

  4. Beavs will have nobody next year, unless Payton is good enough to immediately dominate the Pac12 single handedly. The bigs we have will be tall, but a massive step back in terms of skill and ability from Collier Brandt and Mr Suspension. Further, I see zero reason for any worthwhile recruits to even bat an eye at Corvallis (unless their name is Gary Payton) C. Robama is a loser as a coach. But I would put him up against any coach in the nation in terms of minutes sitting in his chair per game, and gallons of water consumed per half. He should go back to just riding the coattails of being the first lady’s brother. Oh wait, that’s what he is now. Thanks for nothing, Obama!

  5. I think this team has finally turned the corner. This win will really have the guys buying into Craig Robinson’s system. I am thinking that we might see a deep tourney run. Wait, just kidding… they still suck.

  6. Interestingly the women’s game against #2 ND drew over 4,000 fans and the announced attendance at the men’s game was 3,297.

Beavs fall to 123 in the Ken Pomeroy rankings, just behind U of Portland (122) and WSU (118). Beavs signature win against #69 Maryland and loss to #281 Coppin

  7. Anyone find it curious that none of the underclassmen have announced any decisions about declaring early? I figured Cooks would announce after the bowl game.

Chrichton and Mannion are toss ups. Both should return. Chrichton is listed high on some boards but not at all on others. Mannion would be a 7th rounder at best.

Cooks gets picked based on how fast he runs the 40.
    Below 4.35 – First round
    4.36- 4.49 – Second round
    4.5+ – third round.

    • Does anyone think Cooks’ bowl game performance might have hurt him just a smidge? Performance wise, he wasn’t the best receiver on the field that day. I know the matador Beav secondary allowed it to happen, but anyway you look at it 206 yards is impressive and so was Matt Miller.

      • Took a glimpse at the Duck Alamo feed….thought this was interesting:

“And with that catch, Josh Huff is Oregon’s new single season record-holder for receiving yards with 1,140”

Cooks caught over 1,700 yards this year, correct…?

Regarding PAC12 records — Seems like the Beavs have a decent number of players in the top ten for receiving and rushing….Ducks not so much. What do you think guys….Records? ….or Rosebowl? Whether you like it or not….this is Riley’s team identity — usually one work horse record breaking mofo carrying the team to Sun bowls….

        • Hey Homer Simpson, I would gladly trade a skewed individual record for a Rose Bowl any day. After all, football is an individual sport and team record means nothing. Remind me, how many catches did the number two receiver have this year? Oh, I forgot, they only play one receiver at a time and no running backs. Fantasy football anyone?
