  1. Major fail by LMW, missed the uncontested dunk and gets a T for hanging on the rim. I think he was surprised that he didn’t get contested at the rim.

  2. Tinkle can’t have Olaf and GPII out of the game together at the same time. Team is completely lost offensively that way. Duvivier is not a PG and it has shown the last few minutes

  3. How many of these OSU kids are from the L.A. area? They’re playing like they’re psyched out. Or is it because I ‘ve just started watching? It was 11-4 Beavs when I tuned in.

  4. Official blows the whistle to make the over and back call and then reverses himself saying it was an inadvertent whistle. Over and back was the right call.

  5. LMW no points, he was trying to hard at the beginnng of the game, seems to have pissed Wayne off for the time being. Amazingly, only one team foul for the Beavs in the first half.

  6. The offense suddenly is horrible. They were trying to milk the clock with 8 minutes left and taking shots with 5 seconds left…not good strategy.

  7. Not a bad performance considering their opponents have 3 players who were all american in high school. And I’m sure the rest of the team aren’t slouches either.

What a job WT. What a job!!

  8. The difference from last year in Olaf’s game is staggering. He looks so much more comfortable on the court. +26 when he was in the game tonight, +18 for GP 2. LMW with an off night -7. Duvivier 11-12 from the line. Where were all these free throw shooters last year?

    • The foul shooters last year were Collier going a typical 4-7 and Moreland going 2-5 and Roberto missing the front end in a key situation. Reid has impressed me, he has seriously improved his foul shooting. This years team doesn’t fuck around at the line, they especially drop them when they count.

    • Inferred from a couple of articles and an interview with Olaf that Rupp is spending lots of time with him. Olaf’s size and intelligence make him, in coaching terms, “coachable” It shows.

  9. In Fla trying to follow GA and Telly around their recruits, it’s exhausting, but caught the game on my Pac12 app. Good win , was a little nervous there. But this team shoots free throws so darn well! CR didn’t have that. Go Tinkle Time!

  10. This team, unlike last year’s, can finish a game. Great win tonite, and I really love how this team is nailing games down at the free throw line. Did I hear they are shooting some like 78% in Pac-12 play? Outstanding turn around from the last couple years, when I remember a lot of winnable games getting pissed away by tons of misses at the line..

  11. Recruits cannot sign anything at this point in time. Must be nice to fly across the country in order to spectate a fishing trip that is essentially catch and release.

  12. Good win but the PAC12 is definitely down this year. Likely 3 bids. The beavs could sneak in a bid if they get hot at the conference tourney. 3 more wins clinch a winning record.

  13. Just got back from the game and like I stated above. I don’t know who those refs were but they were fucking horrible!!!! Missed several blatant travelling violations on UCLA, a blatant half court violation and then said it was an inadvertent whistle? Glad the Beavs put them away at the end though. Too many turnovers though

  14. Moral of the story: Bryce Alford is ass. People are going to see that he had 20 points or something but they made him look like a bitch lol. Ripping him, pushing him to the side, and the most representative play was probably when Gary saw him, cocked it back, and threw it down.

That was a rather fun one to be at.

    • We were calling him daddy’s boy all game. Then I realized the irony in that since Tres Tinkle will be here next year. I don’t think Alford is all that great anyway.

  15. Btw, idk if anyone watched it tonight but ASU blasted Cal 79-44 in Berkeley tonight. Cal is not good this year and that is a very winnable road game.

  16. From the Gaze Times…”the Beavers improved to 11-0 on the season, the first time an OSU men’s basketball team has reached that mark since the 1979-80 squad finished 13-0 at home.”

    35 Years?!

Still in awe of what WT has accomplished so far this season.

    • From the same article, Tinkle reveals a secret:
“The neat thing is we can challenge these guys now. Early on they didn’t know how to react to it, Now they understand that the old gary-haired guy gets a little goofy from time to time. And what it’s done is it’s brought them together. That’s probably the single-most important thing we’ve done with this group from start to finish.”

      • In a continuation of the Charlie Brown references – although not so much with Riley gone – “Good Grief.” I think that would be difficult especially because of all that’s happening with the mbb team.

        • Yeah, I bet he’s taking a lot of guff right now. “Craig, why can that coach win with your bench players and you couldn’t win with the first team”?

Do you suppose the Prez is disrespecting his bro-in-law, too?

  17. OSU basketball recruiting

I’m rewatching the Mike Parker interview of WT and at ~26 minutes in MP asks if there might be more news coming. (At the time of the interview OSU had already signed Derrick Bruce 6’3″ guard from Orlando, FL; Drew Eubanks 6’10” forward from Troutdale, OR; Stephen Thompson 6’3″ guard from Torrance, Ca and Tres Tinkle 6’7″ forward from Missoula, MT). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iZ8yet2t80

In his response WT alludes to a “post” that they were interested in (which turned out to be Gligorije Rakocevic 6’10” center from Polj, Montenegro) and possibly another player in the spring.

Doing some paraphrasing here: WT said that they technically have 4 scholarships but with him (WT) and Stephen Thompson being on campus there are things they can do “creatively” which would allow them to bring in another player if they felt the player could really help them. He said they were still out there actively recruiting.

So now for my questions: Am I correct in assuming that OSU could pull the scholies of Tinkle and Thompson and give those to other kids? I seem to recall that the children of coaches get some kind of a tuition break but would that mean the kids wouldn’t have access to the training table?

Has anyone heard of any rumors about kids that might have an interest in being in this class?

With the way this team is playing I would think it would have to help the coaches in their recruiting efforts; at least with the kids who are willing to play team ball.

Have you twitter wonks included basketball players in this twitter window that you-all have created? Speaking of the twitter window – – I applaud you guys for thinking of this great idea and then implementing it.

    • You’re correct that they could add extra players. Currently there are 5 for the 2015 class signed, but they could potentially add two more and have Tinkle and Thompson Jr. walk on. Seems excessive to sign a class of 7 in a single year, especially when they haven’t had a full recruiting cycle to pick up impact players. Also, if Togiai comes to play football at OSU (a longshot in my opinion), he would be a walk on for basketball purposes, putting the current class at 6 players for 2015.

I haven’t concentrated on non-football recruiting when it comes to the twitter window, mostly because there really isn’t much news out there right now, and everybody is interested in football with signing day a few weeks away. Probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring other sports in once we get past signing day. I’m totally out of the loop on baseball recruiting though, so wouldn’t be much help there.

      • Thanks beavblazer. Is it possible/practical to dream about having a set-up where there was a twitter window for football related tweets; another for basketball and another for baseball?

How much of the work involved in getting the tweets to appear in the window involve manual labor and how much of it is just a matter getting it set up and letting it run?

        Thanks again.

        • That’s all up to Angry. His site

As far as somebody running a separate basketball or baseball only twitter feed, I think somebody else would need to take that on.

          • “…If any recruiting news breaks for baseball or basketball it will be posted in the feed….”

Cool. In the interview I referred to above, WT said they continue to recruit.

According to the NCAA website the BB coaches are currently recruiting. The current recruiting period goes through March 31, 2015

            http://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/Men%27s%20Basketball%20Recruiting%20Calendar2014.pdf

So I’m thinking/hoping there are tweets from kids who are being talked to and offered by OSU.

          • BB is probably recruiting still, but I bet a lot of that is for next year. And if it is for this class, then it’s been hush-hush. Not even sites like Rivals really cover BB recruiting. Usually we only find out a guy is being recruited once he signs. It’s weird. Maybe via twitter we’ll get more BB info over time as players tweet about who’s recruiting them, but the services don’t really follow anything but football closely.

          • I can’t believe that it would just be the football jocks who would be talking about meeting with coach X from where ever. So if I’m correct, it would appear that you’re twitter window could give AB a leg up on even the services.

Way to go Angry! Well done.

          • I did see a blurb about a kid Tinkle was recruiting, some time in the past month. He was a 2015 kid. Can’t seem to find it now, but it was an indication that they’re still looking. Probably tough to do too much during the season. That’s just the thing though, 1 mention in more than a month is all I’ve seen for basketball.

          • I’m good with a little or a lot of news but what I’m really jacked about is the fact that when there is news it’s right here on the AB website.

I’ll say it again…. Way to go guys!!!

      • I think it would be nice to have some sort of celebration for the walk-ons & practice players at the end of the season to show that their contributions are appreciated in helping get this team to where it is.

They, like the assistant coaches, get sorta lost in the shuffle somewhat. It has taken the entire conglomerate to make this team successful.

        Just saying…
