Stanford @ Oregon State (Game Thread)

For me the intrigue is whether:

(a) The Beavs can run the ball vs Stanford. Not just with the QB, but a legitimate ground game. But I’m also curious to see if Collins can run versus them since he was so bad versus Michigan (partially the play calling of running him up the middle).

(b) If they can’t run, can Collins win a game with his arm?

Given Stanford’s QB situation, I expect OSU’s D to have a good day, so to get this “upset” it will come down to those two things, imo.

  1. 24-9 Tree. Furd starts slow with a little hangover from last week, but a replay of the Michigan game as our lack of depth catches up with us.

  2. Winning the turnover battle and avoiding 3-and-outs so the offense can give the defense some rest tonight. Common sense things, but those are what has to happen. Defense will need to win this, because the offense will be in for a long night.

  3. I live three blocks from campus most people I’ve seen in the hood for football in a while, and I don’t mean because it’s a new season.

    • so against Michigan we went down the field and scored quite easily on our first drive. I bet MI fans didn’t automatically say “this is going to be painful”

Its the opening drive for Pete’s sake. Its scripted, its hardly an indicator of much in the scope of a full 60minute game.

      stop being a Negative Nancy.

  4. Omfg! Fuck Bolden! Jesus Christ if he just turns upfield and runs he gets the first down. Fucking idiotic! How many times are you gonna fuck your teammates?

  5. “So much of defense is about recognition.”

Football announcers are the worst. What sport doesn’t require recognition?

    All idiots all day.

  6. I’m behind, so this sounds out of place.

PI? Is that ref smoking acid? The fucking WR fell over himself. That was complete and total bullshit.

      • I’m 20 min behind… and we’re on our second possession… looking decent… I don’t need to hear negativity right now… but thank you.

first down in the red zone…
run is good… run is good…
AHHHH! AHHHH! AHHHH! #80 fucking wide open!!!!!!! Fucking wide open on the cross field!!!!!!!!!!!!!
        WOW! How the… wow.

      • We’re taking the clock down. I like this. Patience. Keeping the D off the field.

SC makes loosey goosey look good. #6 with some YAC… #6 with more APB…

I… I’m going to shed a tear. SC just rolled out and directed traffic like a pro… and then threw it to where only anything good could happen.

        Nall! Nall! Nall!

        Holy crapola people.

    • How is that not PI on our D against Cajuste?

      !!!!!!!

I mean… how can some guy just fall down untouched and not get the PI call?!?!?!?!?

      This game is a sham!

    • There should be no holding on the D if the QB breaks the pocket.

We’re just going to need some breaks. SU is getting an extra half to full yard on spots.

      MONSTER!!!!!!

WTF????? That was an awesome play!

      I am now officially disturbed.

      • I thought the refs were so consistently generous on their spots for Stanford that it is was extremely suspicious. It is one thing to mess up on a few spots, but even a casual observer would have seen the consistent exaggerated spots for Stanford. I was absolutely disgusted.

        • That’s what I saw. If the refs call a good game I’m the first to say so, even if they make calls against the Beavs that are fair. I’ve stood up for refs in the past when they were right. These weren’t good calls nor fair. It seems to happen often to the Beavs. I wouldn’t know if that’s objectively true, or just seems that way because I watch the Beavs. Do other teams in the conference consistently get awful calls, spots, etc?

  7. That play action was so predictable. How do they get burned so badly?

Need to stop that slow, little Stanford RB.

This D effort is pathetic so far.

  8. Nice play by Collins to elude the pass rush there on last play of the quarter. So refreshing to see. Any previous OSU qb would’ve been sacked

  9. I’ll say it once again, I think Collins is a future Heisman candidate and is going to be a “game changer” for the beaver program (provided he stays healthy). Please remember hes a freshman. hes going to make mistakes, but hes got a competitiveness that is hard to quantify.

  10. What would it take to get rid of the weak, old guy voice ad – “I believe in Oregon State . . . ” The clips are nice except for the horse on the treadmill. They’ve been playing this thing for at least 2 years.

  11. There’s a new element. Ryan Nall. Big bruiser. Give Stanford some of their own medicine with tempo added in. I like this! Best the offense has looked so far this season!

  12. anyone else think that we are seeing some new stuff that’s been broken out specifically for the conference opener? Maybe a little playing possum in non-conference?

    • maybe. Maybe its just that its the third week of a new system and things are clicking or they are ramping up the difficulty and complexity of the schemes and play calling. Maybe its just that the coaches are finally starting to find ways to use what they have.

whatever it is, I’m happy to see it!

  13. There’s nothing worse than refs determining outcomes of games. They just deflate the entire mood of a game when they mess up a call. They even have clear replay to get it right and still don’t. Everyone sees it but the refs.

  14. Pac-12 refs determine the outcome of another game….

I don’t think the Beavs can come back from just handing Stanford 7 unearned points. Atrocious, season-changing call.

    • I’m not normally one to complain about refs, things usually even out in the end, but I really think the refs fucked us bad and changed the score.

We better see some make up calls in the second half.

      • I’m happy that our D didn’t give up after the PI or the bullshit spot on that monster 3rd down stop. They both led to seven. But our boys kept playing despite someone having a side bet.

We’ve caught no breaks thus far. I wonder if our coaches are in some proper ears about this. What we’ve caught is a bunch of bullshit. That needs to change for at least appearance’s sake.

  15. Win or lose this thing is defiantly going in the right direction. You can see solid improvement week to week. I can’t wait to see where this team is 3 years from now (if the staff says) could be very special.

  16. Would have liked to have seen Nall on 1st down at the 4. Too bad the refs slowed us up but play calling could have been better.

Come back and win the 2nd Half and the game. Get it!

  17. Down 4, getting the ball after the halftime while playing against the zebras… Well done guys.

Angry: good call in the ahah monomet for the o last week. Execution has been good. Play callings been legit.

    Get’em boyz… GO BEAVS!!!

  18. The refs have ruined this game for me. I was really enjoying it and both teams were throwing punches. Then we get a third party sucker punch from refs…

That just ruins a ball game. Can’t stand it. It needs to stop. Happens to much in this conference.

  19. Looking for which coach makes the better 2nd half adjustments. Andersen’s chance for his first signature win at OSU. Excited to see if Collins and the team rises to the occasion as well.

  20. Good God, I hate P-12 officiating……..that fuck face older dude is the new Jay Strickenz, he seems to ref every Beaver game. I was half expecting Bolden’s catch to get overturned, especially with Klatt and his boner for Stanford babbling about the pylon.

  21. Andersen seems like a man you’d want in your foxhole. I doubt Baldwin would fit in a foxhole but I’ll take him in a bunker or trench any day.

  22. Oregon State should have distanced themselves from Mike Parker years ago. If the general public knew the scoop, they would be shocked.

    • Dude! That’s why we choose to see the napkin video as funny. Make that his bottom. It’s actually really funny.

I have no doubt he has done worse. We can let it go with a chuckle. We can also forgive.

Hell, we can welcome a Duck as a Beav… and forgive on top of that. This ain’t Eugene.

That being said… we can do better than Parker.

  23. That awful sequence started with the runner taking out of the endzone from 5 yards deep and costing OSU 6 yards and putting us deeper back then we should have been.

    • There was the first drive where the receiver fell over himself, and somehow that was DeCoud’s fault. There was the third and one that went for minus yardage but gained a first down. There was SC not catching the damn ball on his own five yard line.

But yes… we have some work to do.

  24. Baldwin’s offense getting stagnant. Stretch it with some Bolden sweeps. He was getting 7-8 yards on those in the 1st half. Use your speed. Keep em guessing than it works much better.

  25. I can’t help but feel like Collins has the worst body language of any Beaver player I can remember. It always looks like he’s trying to explain why something is not his fault instead of owning the fact that he makes a lot of dumb ass plays. Maybe I’m reading into it too much but you can’t be in a leadership position like QB and act that way.

  26. Youth and inexperience. Hard but good lessons. GA has instilled something foreign and when he has several years of recruiting in the pipe, the Beavers are going to be a brawl for all.
If Collins can be proficient at passing, this offense will be dangerous.

  27. There are definitely some positives to take away from this game. I’m not even all that upset at this point. This was a loss in the books, but I feel like its a win for the program moving forward. The refs giveth and the refs taketh away, but they played hard, for 2.5 quarters against a much more experienced team.

The offense is starting to click. Collins has more good moments than bad I just want him to be more of a leader on the field. I think he’ll get that going forward.

  28. This is going to get way uglier than I thought. This should have been a close game. Ed Ray can’t be happy Stanford is taking a giant dump in his house.

    • should have been a close game?

I think only a real optimist (or a delusional beaver fan) would have said that and you don’t strike me as either. This was a trap game at best, and we looked to be playing our part for 2.5 quarters.

      Have you been drinking today?

      • OrangeFlush trust me, you are wasting your time with these idiots! Most of them think they “know talent” yet over half of them don’t know their heads’ from their assholes! Yet they claim to “know talent” like Marcus McMaryion should be our starting QB…..Ha ha ha ha! Watch what happens if that scenario ever takes place! Idiot! This has everything to do with being outmatched in the trenches (both sides of the ball). Yet most of these fuckin morons think it’s the problem of the skill players and/or coaches. So much for football knowledge!?!?

        Go Beavs!

        • “This has everything to do with being outmatched in the trenches (both sides of the ball).”

So all of the dropped passes and boneheaded plays by Bolden are the fault of the offensive line? Ok, cool. Nice logic there Forrest. I won’t disagree that the lines need to be deeper and stronger, but to say that has EVERYTHING to do with the Beavs problems is well, fuckin moronic.

    • Noland-Lewis, safety #17, is constantly flail whiffing. Dude is in position to make great stops and gets run through every time he tries tackle without wrapping. Really extremely frustrating to watch that over and over and over.

  29. For me, not so much what he was saying, just his whole woe is me tone once the game starts to get out of hand. And hearing his woe is me affect his announcing of the fumble. That was the last straw.

I’m still learning a lot about this team and staff and don’t care about the score, but the effort.

  30. Kicking PAT to go down 11 a massive blunder. Knowing if you need two TD or TD + FG critically important. After the miscues at the end of first half against Michigan I’m comfortable saying GA is clueless about optimal game theory.

  31. “phenomenal blocking on the outside!”

You mean that obvious hold against Justin Strong to spring the runner? yeah that was phenomenal.

  32. Defense not having a very good game. Until Baldwin gets the offense consistently making first down we will be at risk of defensive tiring in 2nd halves against the majority of Pac-12 squads.

  33. Time to take the rest of this god damn government poison! You fight and give your all and they give you a bottle of pills and tell you to get fucked

  34. This is the problem with the team: Their coach looks like a sissy. Anderson should wear a hat like a man instead of a chip kelly visor. He shouldn’t be so color coordinated. He looks silly. Does his wife dress him?

  35. I stand tall for the braevs. Those soldiers out there executing the mission in the face of all that is unholy. Those tough bastards will stand in and take one hell of a beating in the name of progress!

  36. Went back and watched the dvr on that 3rd down holding penalty on Mitchell and he had every right to be pissed off. He was trying to block two defenders. They knocked him down and one fell on top of him and the ref throws the flag for holding. That isn’t holding. So Stanford can get away with a hold on the Sanders TD run and the beavs get flagged for phantom holds? Got it.

  37. I’m sorry for my Mike Parker-esque whining in this thread. I think it was that 3rd and 1 with the refs. Lost most interest in the game at that point and morphed into Parker! Kill me.

  38. A bonus play for seven or so yards?

But but but… why not wait for the quarter break?

Is this our OSU football team?

    sorry… took a break…

    Villamin sucks.

  39. Sneth Crawlins gonna get his head taken off! Too many damn snipers in this conference.

We need to set up a perimeter! Everyone outside of Corvallis and Philomath is our target. I’ll be a few clicks off of Peoria road doing some undercover recon tonight if anyone wants in.

  40. They called fucking holding on Mitchell on that play? He got bullrushed by two guys and put on his back. What the fuck was that call?

Call the block in the back on Guyton about ten yards downfield. But you’re going to call a hold on someone who gets flattened by two guys? Why? because one of them also falls down?

Pac 12 refs know the spread.

  41. God damn Stanford ran for well over 300 yards tonight. All players need to do 325 up downs per day for the rest of the season. Shit-take needs to get 325 kicks to the nut sack per day for the rest of the season

    • “Victor Robbins”? Is that you? I thought you left school (or at least this site). Remember, you were a one joke wonder the first time? I would say your lame military schtick doesn’t even get you back in the game.

          • He has no military schtick other than his name and the insult to anyone who has ever sworn to defend our Constitution.

He’s a typical Duck fuck who shits on the life gifted him because others sacrifice for his well being. I respect the street rat downtown by the bus depot who tells me he has nothing. And I know he has more than something. Because that guy I’m looking at has more than something. And if he’s honest, I’ll pay him.

But honest people are harder and harder to come by in this town. I don’t experience anything different since what’s her name… or his… became mayor. I know the stupids hate mass transit… because they love their employees being late.

            Wait….

I might be a little jaded toward them because I live here.

            I can stop.

    • Offense started the second half with fumble, 3&out, 3&out, 3&out. Beavs were in the game at half.(despite refs jobbing 4points of momentum before the half)

      • There were four jobbings occurring. One of them might have not been consequential except we’ll never know.

Yes… that phantom PI was on second down.

That third and one for minus yardage that was then “confirmed” by replay?

Replay ref should be fired over that call. And I am serious. I know refs have similar rules we all have with so many write-ups and performance evaluations and all that bullshit “best practice” bullshit.

But when you see something that I see and you and I both have on tape and you don’t even majorly fuck up the call, but you decide to make reality a negative by making what you see nothing resembling reality?

Should have called Vegas right at that moment. Refs were going for the spread.

        • That replay ref was worse than Arizona booster way back when. We actually have cameras on the field now.

          Oooh! The fumble at UW?

          This one was worse.

  42. I’ve got a beef with Noland-Lewis. First guy to hit the ball carrier plenty of times to night. Ends the night with no recorded tackles. He keeps hitting a guy instead of tackling, and without surprise, the ball runner bounces right off. These are game&momentum chsnging whiffs. Sure he got an interception, but does not balance. If he makes the tackles, it’s a major game changer.

    • Noland Lewis will not be taken alive! That son of a bitch runs away from confrontation. It started in middle school with him. Whiffs on purpose. It’s well known and par2

    • Agreed. I read two sentences in and agree with you. He doesn’t whiff though, which makes it worse. He redirects while looking like he’s making a tackle, and his teammates let up because he’s there, in the right position, making the right play… but never wrapping up.

      It hurts.

This was a winnable game except for some late decisions on both sides.

But I liked what I saw… and I think we bowl this year.

We just need the script to flow into the second half… then we’re golden.
