  1. Anybody watching pac12 network? Why does Jake Plummer look like Kenny Loggins? I have a sudden urge to sing “highway to the danger zone” right now.

  2. I like the Beavs uniforms, don’t like their special teams.

Bring Bruce Reed back — one thing he was good at was teaching coverage.

  3. They need to ditch this 3-4/46 hybrid defense. It is awful. Can’t get pressure, can’t stop the run, can’t stop the pass. Do something else.

  4. No pressure, an 80% passing team is going to pick us apart.

Did anyone actually see that penalty? Looks like their QB got slapped on the head after the pass. Pretty weak call.

  5. Cyril has the MOST AWFUL TACKLING FOR OF ALL TIME!! And Seth needs to stay in the pocket when we have a good one. We’re gonna get blown the fuck out.

  6. Why was Collins drifting and acting as if there was pressure on the 3rd down!!? He had all day you can be taught to step up in the pocket and throw.. This team is just terrible from top to bottom..

    Basically unwatchable right now

  7. Growing impatient with Baldwin. Not convinced he is a Pac-12 level OC at all. Give me Ludwig 365 days a year over this.

Right now Matt Wells is looking like he may have been the better choice. Our special teams suck, offense awful and defense not far behind. With no consistency on offense this team won’t win in league.

Angry’s predictions turn south today and the way it is headed this team will lose to Colorado. No passion, no team leadership and Baldwin has no answers.

  8. Decoud getting picked apart right now. He looked good against crappy competition. But extremely bad so far in Pac12 play and today.

Failed bump and run gave up 12, and gives up the easy TD on a fade route back to back.

  9. Gonna be a long day. Can’t tackle, way too cute on the offensive play calling.

Going to revise my score prediction from 34-10 to 41-10

  10. They are not good, they were never supposed to be… Shouldn’t be a surprise, not a ton of talent on the team… It’s gonna take a couple years, doesn’t happen overnight

  11. I still think there’s a good chance we lose this game, but people here sure to like to overreact to just a few plays to start a game…

    • It’s been a trend… Usually teams play better as the season goes on but this team looks worse… Could be the level of competition but I think it’s execution, they are not playing near as well

  12. It’s like they think they’re being super clever by not handing the ball off to Storm, and hiding him or something. No, it’s just fucking stupid.

    • It’s fucking insane, he’s almost the only good player on the entire fucking team. He should get 30 carries a game but we want to be too fucking cute with QB off tackle runs instead.

    • I could’ve thrown a better ball. You’re right, our WR’s have to be skittish running routes for STG. He must have been about 3 yards behind Vill.

Our secondary and DL are horrendous. Have you seen one decent tackle when we do wrap up? Atrocious.

  13. Shitty play call on 2nd and 18. Fake fly sweep HB dive.

So the defense is already adjusting to a run, and your fake leads to…a run?

    WTF

  14. Now ga gets aggressive on 4th and 16!!?? We’ve had so many 4th and shorts in similar field position where he’s pussed out and should have gone for it..

Perhaps the defensive regression by Sitake and crew has changed his mind?

    • Can’t get pressure even on a double safety blitz… I feel sitake’s frustration… Can’t move the line of the other team, it’s gonna be a long one

  15. Can someone explain what this defense is? Two LBs lined up on the left side right next to one another. Cougs run it to the other side where there is nobody. What the fuck is that?

      • They also have 3 down linemen and one guy standing up on the edge who never gets close to the QB (or tackling a RB). This player on the edge just keeps bull rushing into a lineman and getting swallowed up, even when trying slow, bad spin moves. It’s embarrassing looking. I’d rather see a standard 4-3. I don’t even know what this is, but it’s porous and poor.

  16. Announcer literally says “CB is being held” but the refs are retarded and don’t see it.

Then again, their WR ran the entire width of the field without being touched, so we kinda deserve it.

  17. Man, this is now even out of “couging it” range.

I’d like to see some McMaryioin today. And other backups. These starters stink. That lineman Fred Lagua (sp?) is AWFUL, too. Try anyone else.

  18. Well at least Cougs don’t gain a bunch more yards after the fake punt, I mean, yeah, 7 more points, but only 10 additional yards to their total.

  19. Very poorly coached offense. Had much better chance throwing it then faking a punt on our own 17 yard line. I’m ready to make McGiven OC.

  20. How the fuck do you make that call at your own 20? There is no upside to that call.

I’m done. Cougs may put up 50+ on us.
Definitely the worst team in the conference.

  21. Good pressure on the blitz and a tackle after the short completion. That’s literally our first good defensive play, top to bottom, all game.

  22. Very poorly coached offense. Had a better chance throwing it then faking a punt from our own 17. I am ready to make McGiven OC.

  23. This coaching is terrible. An onside kick, really? That is just awful.

The D is awful, Collins awful, but this loss is squarely on the coaches. Can’t call a punt fake at your 10 then onside right after you gain momentum. AWFUL.

This game is making me bearish on GA and crew. They are letting their frustration and impatience dictate decisions, and that is an awful trait.

      • I like aggressive, but time and place, and those weren’t it. If you want to go on 4th and 2, run a play. Never onside kick after you finally gain momentum there. That was one inexcusable on all levels and reeks of pathetic desperation, not to mention flat out dumb

        • Exactly, like I said, not smart.

You try to be aggressive, take a fake attempt, when the teams are fairly evenly matched and you need a boost to turn the tables. When you are on ~ your own 10 and getting your ass kicked, you don’t fake punt.

When you finally get some momentum, with a score, don’t be silly and try an onside attempt. Almost like we’re trying to be cute. That isn’t smash mouth, physical football, definitely not smart.

  24. This looks nothing like Utah State football. They play for 4 quarters over 90% of the time. Thought we might get a hybrid of USU with some Wisconsin and Utah thrown in and instead we are only a toddler Benny step ahead of Weber St.

  25. If Collins could get these WRs the ball on time, in space/on the run we’d probably see more plays like the Bolden’s TD run. Receivers are getting laid out to try, balls behind them, awful spirals, etc. Hard to get YAC when the ball is so off.

They need to give McMaryion a shot. Collins is a liability. He can’t even run anymore since teams now know how to defend it.

      • That would be fine. Give Mitchell a chance.

GA said he’d play the guys who give them the best chance to win. There is no way that can be Collins. So make the move already. It’s more wish-washy crap from GA. Just make the move and see what the other guy can do for half a game. Collins is not the answer, so it’s MM, Mitchell, or Garrettson next year. Cut bait, swallow pride.

    • Except the WRs have been terrible after the catch, even on plays where they get the ball with tons of room to run…

Even though Collins is bad I think the WRs were overrated.

Edit: I agree though they should probably try MM or NM sometime… Might as well IMO.

    • 3M has been terrible when in. While Collins does have some obvious problems, he still represents the best chance to win. Period. You may get your wish again, but I hope not. He’s definitely a step backward.

  26. OMG another failed tackle, after a double reverse filled with botched tackles. This is just pathetic. How do you not know how to fucking tackle?

          • They’ve shown they can play disaplined football earlier this season… Coaching only goes so far, laid back Riley recruits don’t mesh well in this system… You’ll see once they get some personnel that actually fits what they are trying to do

        • Dude look at how we pursue the football we don’t break down and drove through the ball carrier.. There are fundamentals ways to teach tackling so that it becomes learned behavior. I’m 35 now but there is now way and hell you will see me approach a ball carrier with open arms lookin for love the way Chappelle and Nolan Lewis do. I was taught how to hit at an early age and never forgot.

          • and who previously taught these guys to tackle (poorly) and recruited them? And you think that learned behavior can be reversed in a short amount of time? And that’s THIS coaching staff’s fault? They’re taking the shit they were given. And it seems you all expected a fucking miracle out of it? Jesus tits Helen. Yes it looks fucking bad right now. But I’ll still take this coaching staff 100 out of 100 times over the previous. Give them some fucking time and let them recruit some better talent

          • Not expecting a miracle dude( hanging with The cougs should never be classified as such) or even To win… I Just expect some sound fundamental football.. See tinkle as an example.. All the shit ball we saw under CR magically vanished into hard nose hoop. Ga doesn’t have that same oomph.. Or at least his coordinators don’t.

          • Exactly! We’ve seen this type of tackling the entire “banker” era… You can’t reverse it, earlier in the season it looked a lot better coming right out of fall camp but with just a week between games, you can see they are reverting back… It’s gonna take time, at Utah st Andersen was 4-8 his first two years in the weak WAC conference

          • yup. Year 3 it started to turn around. You have to give GA at least 3 years to recruit better talent across the board and let some of them become upperclassmen before it’s going to make a real difference. Again, 52 of the 85 scholarship players are freshman. READ THAT AGAIN AND LET IT SINK IN. FIFTY TWO OF THE EIGHTY FIVE SCHOLARSHIP PLAYERS ARE FRESHMAN.

            Not a recipe for success

      • We can blame him for the awful talent, but not the fake punt, onside kick, bizarre formations that make no sense in the context of this game, etc. This is the worst I’ve ever seen GA coach. I think he’s being very impatient and frustrated. It’s like the dude who you play in Madden who is so pissed that he’s getting hammered that he goes for it on 4th and 40. A pro coach should not be susceptible to that. Really shitty that GA is

        • Agreed perfect analogy.. Just loosing his head.. I honestly think he is likely shocked at how poorly our defense is being coached.. It’s terrible these guys look like this is there first year playing football.

  27. Is this the worst performing OSU team since Riley took over in 1997? This team seems worse than the 2011 team that at least beat WSU, UW, and Arizona. Two wins over Weber State (only 19 points) and San Jose State(only by 14 points) is pitiful.

  28. That last offensive formation makes no sense. Why have Vanderveen out wide? Put a 4th WR out there. With Vanderveen out wide it’s 11 vs 10, because there is no chance he beats a DB.

  29. Back to you regularly scheduled shit show by Oregon State. All we do is rush a LB at the QB 2 times out of 3 and the QB then throws an easy completion to the vacated space. Baldwin and Sitake and GA getting schooled. Did not think we would back up one crap fest with another almost as stinky. Don’t think our schemes fit our best way to wIn.

Stay on the field offense. TD or bust here.

  30. We know why Riley left for the 2.5(?) or 3.5(?) million…

Not watching, listening. Sounds awful. This game is not this hard. Even with new coaches, schemes, expectations, this makes me really question the D1 legitimacy of both the physical and mental ability of these recruited OSU players.

  31. That is all Seth the Grate is good at…keep him for fly sweeps, get a passer who can throw in the game, it looks completely different.

  32. The “pass rushers” are literally just standing there with their arms engaged and dancing with the Coug OL. So funny looking. It looks like a drill of some type not a real game.

  33. Beavs lack talent in the secondary. Playing a team like WSU doesn’t play to their strengths.

Beavs lack talent on the DLine. Playing a team like Tree or Mich doesn’t play to their strengths.

Beavs lack D talent across the board, playing a team like (fill-in the blank) doesn’t play to their strengths.

    • I’d really like to see MM or Mitchell play QB. That’s the only reason I’ll tune in, but it looks like GA has tied himself to the Seth Collins anchor.

      • I think you’re right. Didn’t like GA’s comments after last game where he said McM didn’t move the team (only later did he admit that ST? didn’t move the ball any better).

        • I thought that was weird, too, because MM looked better than GA admitted. He looked better than Collins passing, too. Was he great? No. But he was okay. He wound up 4-10 for 42 yards, and should have been 5-10 for like 75yards were it not for the drop. His big problem was slow to make reads. He will get sacked a lot.

Maybe Mitchell should get a shot. I’m not tied to MM. I just want to see someone who can get the WRs the ball. I don’t care who it is.

  34. This is awfully disturbing. I’m questioning the coaching staff and everyone here should too. The primary complaint against Riley was that he didn’t have a balanced offense – didn’t run the ball. How many carries does Woods have?

I never felt like Riley & Co threw the team under the bus like many of you say. I did feel that the coaches threw the players under the bus last week though and I bet they do it again this week.

This season is an embarrassment. Next season will be an embarrassment. This is the beginning of a decade in futility. We overpaid.

    I can’t wait for basketball.

    • It took Leach like five years to rebuild Washington State. Took GA two or three to rebuild Utah State. You have to be patient, but you also have to be furious with some of the awful coaching today. This is the first awful coaching I’ve seen. I’m giving him a pass because it seems like desperation. If he continues to do this shit and becomes a pattern, it will be time to call it out for what it is. We’re still learning, as fans, what this staff is. It sucks to get killed. Everyone is mad and emotional. Half the comments in this thread will probably look ridiculous a year from now.

      • That’s fair. I am drinking Pendleton Whisky right now and not in a position to make good decisions. It’s not so much a knock on the offense as it is the defense. Disgusting. I also don’t want to wait 5 years. Ugh. WSU is not as good as they’re playing.

I do worry that it may be true that Riley kept us relevant. I worry that what GA is trying to run on offense is already figured out – Baylor is the offense we want but the QB we have is not ever going to be the kind of player that Russell is. Hopefully Collins isn’t the guy for the next 3 years.

    • Riley took a dump on OSU then bailed (again.) He left the cupboards less than stocked, left his soft mopey participation point mentality behind, and we’re having to deal with that.

That said, there is no way these coaches are getting the most out of this team.

    • You list the “primary” complaint, fine, that is your opinion.

For me that was only one item on a long list. Insane use, or lack thereof, of time outs, total lack of a 2 minute drill, failure to have the backs of your players when they are cheapshoted on the field….only a partial list. And that was with his own group of recruits.

  35. Does Mike Leach seem a little spectrum-y? I know he’s bright enough, but I had never noticed that he can’t seem to respond in anything but a linear, ‘matter of fact’ manner to every question asked of him.

  36. At least buying 4 extra tickets for the Colorado game isn’t going to hurt the pocketbook too much with they way the Beavs are playing. People will be unloading tickets for cheap.

  37. Took WSU four quarters and 2 TOs to score 45 last week…this week, two quarters.

The CW is going to be ugly all the way around….play, uniforms…Autzen….

  38. From the comments it sounds like Collins is a WR playin QB again. Probably gonna be the case for the rest of the year. The Pac-12 has devolved into the Big-12(9?10?). Terrific offenses across the board and atrocious defenses. Problem is OSUs offense can’t keep up or keep their D off the field and all these high-powered offenses start snowballing by halftime. It’s just a recipe for disaster. But I think it’s important to realize that we’re losing by more than we used to in Riley seasons because of the style of play.

Also I’m annoyed by seeing so many blaming the coaches for poor tackling. Many coaches will tell you that defense is as much if not more about effort and aggression than anything else. I’m all for coaches taking responsibility but at some point the players have to be accountable. As whiskey said, you can lead a horse to water………..

Offense sounds like the same hot mess it has been all year so I don’t think anyone can escape blame for that shitshow.

    • offense has actually been better than it was last week. The D, just ugh. Also not creating any turnovers. But a shitty defense isn’t going to create any. The fake punt inside your own 20 and on side kick after the TD are on the coaching staff. Those are inexcusable. ESPECIALLY the fake punt inside your own 20. I understand you are trying to gain some momentum and keep the D off the field.

    • I’ve seen some of the most pussiest guys you could imagine turn into solid tacklers. One way is to literally embarrass dudes on film for arm tackles.. ” do you need a hug??” That was the mantra I was taught in pop warner. Look at Chappelle and Nolan Lewis approach the ball carrier to tackle.. They are all arms. That’s coaching. Drill in in there heads to break down and drive through the ball on approach.

      It’s not rocket science.

  39. Ha! WSU took the bait in the first half!

Here come the sacks, jumped routes, pick 6’s, power running, and the passing it facilitates!

    Do NOT tune out!

  40. “True freshman” excuse is old.
The guy is halfway through the season, so he’s somewhere between a freshman and sophomore now.

Collins is looking to run on every pass play. Running backwards, in circles, then slinging the ball, etc. You cannot play offense like this. This isn’t a video game.

    • Why hasn’t this been drilled in his head by now?? If it has and he’s still doing it why not go to the next guy?!! Again it’s on the staff.

      • Because MMM just fucking stands in the pocket with his eyes bulging out of his head and nick Mitchell is…well…he’s nick Mitchell. There is absolutely ZERO talent at the QB position right now. The only thing I worry about is GA being so committed to 4 years of Collins that it begins to scare away recruits looking for playing time

    • I was thinking about how pissed Angry would be seeing The Great run around in circles.

Have you noticed how our defense never wraps up? They constantly dive for the legs hoping they’ll fall with contact. I thought that was a Banker deal but I guess these players are all his…

  41. Kudos to Wazzu for not bailing on Leach and sticking with him. Dude had all the players from the previous regime fighting him tooth and nail on everything. But Wazzu stayed patient and HUMBLE and trusted that he was a good coach. Now he’s got all his players in the house and they’re really picking up steam. Take notes Beav fans, the GA era will likely start the same but it’s very important that we don’t call for a coaches head because the team doesn’t turn around in a year or two. Places like OSU and Wazzu don’t have the resources to have a Michigan or Florida-like turnaround. They were left in similar piles of rubble and will take similar amounts of time to turn around in the right direction

  42. Does Mageo have a tackle? I was told he’s a stud LB and I couldn’t analyze talent. So I want to confirm he has the normal 10 tackles with a sack that you’d expect from a stud LB.

    • Who said he was a stud linebacker? I know his position in the defense is called stud linebacker. It’s stud linebacker no matter who plays the position

      • Here are some of the quotes. There were more.

        Three captain obvious observations:
1-Mageo is for real, angry do you believe?
2.Rudolph poor passing again hurts MI
3-the hurdle is simply part of Seth, hard to change.

I will say Mageo is a bad ass. I love his play. Saulo, peko, decoud, and Scott all played pretty damn good if you ask me. Our defense got hungout and that’s a knock on the offense, not the defense. I saw a lot of positives, but as you say I think a psychologist could help. I think if one thing goes wrong a lot of these players collapse, maybe it’s a hangover from Riley’s mentality.

I agree Mageo and Saulo are studs! Great players but Sitake (who I know is an amazing coach) you HAVE to re-route receivers off the LOS (even if it’s just a push) to throw off timing in the passing game. Especially in bump and run or (especially) Cover 2(coverage).

Wow! We may be 2-11 this season. Not what I want to be but…. what could happen if the physicality does not catch up quickly!

        Go Beavz!

Add in angry’s early take on Mageo, and we’re up to 198.

then there were a troll or two who came in a few days later and said I couldn’t analyze talent because Collins and Mageo are good. Okay….

Like with Riley, time will tell the truth.

        • Considering turd stabber was one of the three, I’d take it with a grain of salt. Haven’t seen turd stabber around lately. Probably went back to tea bagging Riley with his blitz peeps

      • Maybe he should Stop running a million read option plays in succession when you don’t have a guy capable of making the right read?

        • have you forgotten what kind of offense this is? The O line play isn’t helping Collins or whoever the fuck is the RB either.

  43. I hate to say it, but I feel like I see a lot of Kobe in Seth Collins. He seems to keep the ball way too often when he should be handing it off. Kobe had that Me Me Me attitude that was such a negative trait.

    • I see a lot of freshman in Seth Collins… He’s getting better, obviously not good enough for the Pac 12 yet but who else do they have? I am sorry MM looks even more terrible imo!

    • What the fuck!!??? Completely different sports but Kobe has won 5 championships and is a top 10 player of all time.. I would give a left pinky if Seth turns into anything remotely close to what Kobe Bean Bryant is.

Also Kobe’s career assist average is among the top 10 all time for non point guards.. Amazing for a me me guy.

  44. So GA doesn’t play any other QBs in the 2nd half of a blowout, despite saying he needed to get the other guys reps, and I just wasted 1.5hrs of my life watching more Seth Collins failure.

I will likely be done with OSU for the remainder of the year unless there is a QB change, so expect only game day threads moving forward. I can’t watch any more of this Collins, and with GA anchored to him I’m done watching. GA is willing to make changes everywhere except where it matters most.

I simply can’t watch that style of offense. I’d actually rather watch Mannion, as brutal as that could be.

This is how the QB position must work: run when the pass isn’t there.
That’s when the run is a weapon. End of story. And it will never change, as Robert Griffen, Kordell Stewart, Vince Young, and every other awful passer has eventually learned. Since Collins is not as good as them, he is learning vs WSU

    • In hindsight it should have been obvious that a sub 50% passer in high school would not be able to immediately come in and compete as a passer in the Pac-12.

      I wonder if it’s hubris that they don’t give McMaryion/Mitchell more of a shot…

  45. The middle of the field on 2nd and 3rd down is ALWAYS open! The talent level is low but the coaches aren’t helping – 2nd week in a row, Guess the callout on the players had little effect.

    • Yup wide open! Weve basically been in a 5-2-4 all day with the mike and the inside backer staying home or blitzing on pass plays. There’s no one dropping Olin coverage over the middle.. Sitake was considered an a list DC!??

  46. They have looked better in the 2nd half, but you have to wonder how much of that is WSU losing focus after they know they have the game won in the first half.

Some of the personnel out there in the 2nd half looks better. So it’s probably a mix of those two things, but more WSU letting off the gas a bit. If I were GA, I’d start this personnel next week to find out.

    • The majority of it is referred to a a condition called, ‘Positive Inhibition/Negative Facilitation’. It’s when the winning team lets up and the losing team hits the gas. Sometimes depending on the gap, it can lead to a swing and change in the ultimate outcome of the game. Not so much here.

  47. I think it’s time for Collins to sit. I know this is garbage time but floating that one out there is inexcusable. A better pass and that’s a touchdown. Instead it’s a shitty pass and it’s 6 the other way. He’s had a long enough leash.

    • I don’t think they have anyone right now eligible that is serviceable as a passer.

Example: A few plays before the pick six where Collins took off and ran and wound up running into his own O lineman before losing two yards, he had someone wide open over the middle about 6 yards past the LOS. RIGHT FUCKING IN FRONT OF HIM! Throw it to him. Instead he takes off and loses yardage.

        • right now you want the guy out there that is going to make the least amount of mistakes. I don’t know who that is at this point.

          • Very true… I think at the end Collins was trying to make something happen… That’s one thing this season is not make any bad throws but at the end of this game he had several… You take the QB run element out of this offense and what do we have?

  48. Two rapid fire ints by Seth and, yet, still little hope here that GA will give anyone else a chance, today or next week.
    C’mon GA surprise me!!

  49. What is Gary Andersen doing playing Collins still?

I really don’t understand this, and it’s not just frustration/hatred of Collins style. If a guy is not performing, and the game is a blowout, why play him? Why not give someone else a chance? This is straight out of the Riley book.

Valuable game experience for backups lost.

    • My guess…

The only way Seth the Grate becomes Seth the Great, or even Seth the Serviceable, is more snaps.

Seth sucks. We all agree. But if you’re going to commit to him, and GA obviously has, he needs to see the field more. More recognition of defenses. More coaching tips can follow when he’s been put into more situations. Nothing will accomplish more than reps.

Maybe that will help Seth’s passing. I remain skeptical he’ll ever be able to pass effectively.

    • I expected this from the game as I have watched both teams every game this season. Our guys look very young among men. I would think most would know that we are a young team and this year was not going to be a good one. So, I was not expecting a miracle going into this season. Why would we think otherwise in GA first season of coaching. He doesn’t have his players here yet. I am not jumping off the GA bandwagon. Heck, look at WSU, who are finally doing what most thought and how many years has Leach been there? Change takes time!

    • That’s another thing about Andersen that Riley didn’t do, keep fighting… I remember Riley teams giving up mid way through the third quarter… This team didn’t give up even tho they were getting destroyed, that’s a good sign IMO

  50. This one is squarely on the coaches. All 4 losses have been blowouts. Very little improvement.

The second half is hard to figure out. Not sure if WSU let up or the coaches made adjustments but it was much better. If the coaches made adjustments, the question is why weren’t they ready in the first half?

  51. I don’t know why we didn’t run the fucking ball. Yes, we were behind but letting Collins throw is a wasted down… Not close to being a D1 QB. No wonder no one wanted him as a QB and no other Power 5 offers…

Nall and Haskins should have had more carries. WTF!?

  52. Oregon State is best with this team running agressively north-south. Storm, Haskins, Brown and Nall like was working in the last half of the 3rd quarter. That makes opposing defenses worry and keeps it simple for our blocking schemes with team on the same page. Throw in a few passes off run success and that is probably the best this team can do. Seth can still keep a few times as well but the main weapon has to be real RBS as a unit gaining positive bursts at a time.
