Just in time to sign Angie to a deal so lucrative she bailed on all her Rivals subscribers…

Scout.com: Scout has been “hit with an involuntary Chapter 11 petition in the US Bankruptcy Court”. Scout has 21 days to respond or would make the bankrutcy official. According to TheStreet.com three primary creditors are owed nearly $800,000. Scout Media President responded to TheStreet via email by saying, “We have no comment at this time other than to say Scout’s best-in-class network of publishers will continue to provide the premium content and dynamic communities that our millions of users know and love.”

This is true, but in 2007 when I posted on Rivals I warned them that paywall was not the future and a poor, antiquated business model. They ignored it and went for short-term gain. Evolve or die!

More to the story… which was known back in the summer… which made the Blitz move weird, unless they were able to escape from a contract and will now be able to do so again.

I’d be reading the fine print right now.

Actually hope they find a way to get through this because competition is good. Otherwise, you can bet your rivals subscription cost is going to get jacked up

recruiting info will never be money generating in the future. expect rivals to die off. They gave up on basketball a while back.

Sites like ESPN can afford the losses. Nike is also contributing to recruiting sites demises by holding combines.

Sites like Hudl have also pierced the paywalls. Recruits pay to upload their film instead of getting subscribers to pay. Solid base of recruits every year.

    • angry angry says:
      VN:F [1.9.22_1171]
      Rating: +7 (from 7 votes)

Don’t forget Youtube. Almost all Hudl film is uploaded by the recruits for free to Youtube. All recruits tweet for free.

This is all great. Adults harassing kids for information and then selling that information are predators. Once the recruits are adults themselves it’s a little better but still creepy.

It’s not even that. It’s that all this info would be available given time anyway. The lie about the pay wall is that they are providing some kind of service. It’s not a service to the kids. Only kids who can be hyped to morons who pay for “access” are served in any way. That’s why HUDL works. It’s simply a clearinghouse that anyone can view. That’s a service.

But even before all the social and service media, time would make the pay wall obsolete. I just don’t understand the utility of such a site. And then you have to hype them, and it just all feels fake and looks fake on the page.

PSAs have a year after their originally scheduled graduation (or after the school year in which they turn 18) to finish school before their eligibility clock starts. Public and religious service will freeze that clock as well. And if some kid thinks s/he was under-recruited or needs a year to physically develop, they can take prep level courses which could theoretically allow them to test out of 100 level courses while they do so.

Have a very good feeling that JUCO DT Craig Evans is going to be a strong player for OSU. Expect we hear a couple big recruiting announcements in next 2 weeks. Calvin, Nixon, Johnson are others.

See 7 wins as a fair prediction for next year. Chance at a Sun Bowl. Year after that look out. 8-9 game win potential with Civil War at home again to help seal a high quality Bowl.

Recruits will be coming in at a perfect time in an ascending program.

Watching UCLA vs Kentucky. The Beavs play UCLA the first weekend of Pac-12 basketball. YIKES!

If UCLA doesn’t play the team manager (and the water carrier) AND the Beavs continue to play as they have been this game could end up being 112 to 35.

No, make that 112 to 25.

I know, I was watching some of that game. Damn, UCLA!

Duvivier and Bruce leaving, huge misses on the two JC recruits and now injuries are a recipe for a lost season. You knew they were in trouble when Sanders and Dahlen came back. I’m sorry but those guys are not D-1 caliber players. At this point, I’m just curious to see if they will be competitive with the bottom half of the P-12 if they ever get Tinkle, STj and Kone on the court at the same time.

Yeah, I’d be tickled pink (make that orange) if they could compete with the bottom half but right now even that looks like a huge challenge. . The main thing they’ll have going for them is whoever they’re playing will be concentrating on their game with the ‘ucks and overlooking the Beavs.

One thing that impressed me with the Bruins is they have some shooters but instead of standing around and casting off 3’s (like the Beavs do all too often), the Bruins work the ball, and the players are working to get open and their teammates find them with the ball. Characteristics I’d like to see the Beav players have.

Checking the roster I see that Austin Kafentzis (QB recruit that GA went hard after) is the backup QB) for Evans team (AWC). Lol. I guess he’s trying to get his chance at the JC level.
