Smilin’ Mike and TPB’s from Nebraska vs Tenn Vols at 12:30 PST Friday.  oob here, stepping in not knowing if angry’s emergency will keep him from starting the discussion.

Riley’s a 7 pt dog in this one with a few injury excuses in his pocket. I’ll be watching clock management, use of time outs, overall team energy, and of course a hand jive demo. How can they possibly function w/o Bruce Read?

Oh yeah, will we see a two minute drill??
What are y’all looking for in this one?

  1. Gee, what’s a two minute drill? Is that when Mark’s defense gets bent over and drilled by opponents for two minutes as they march down the field for a score? Shucks, I’ve seen plenty of those!

  2. Win win either way. Vols loss equals another bitch slap for the mighty SEC. Vols win equals ammo to tell my brother, “hey I told you so.”

  3. OT: For the second time the Buffalos get slaughtered by Cowboys. No Sharps rifle required this time. A mullet proved to be equally deadly.

  4. As much as I would love to see Mike get his ass handed to him. I live in Nashville and UT fans are delusional and I would love to see them lose.

  5. Hasn’t someone here referred to Riley as “Barney Fife” on occassion? Kind of interesting that the rare 10 win season now hinges on the play of Smilin’ Mike’s QB of the same surname pronunciation!

  6. thanks for putting up this thread, OOB. Myself, I’m heading to a local sports bar where Nebraska fans are reputed to hang out in large number, proudly wearing my OSU gear so I can be readily identifiable for counseling ask Husker nation puzzles over weird play calls, disinterested sideline demeanor, the husbanding of time outs for use next year, and the like. Also, be sure to tune in for the post game call in show on The Zone, on Omaha’s sports talk station. If it’s a loss that show today should be a classic.

    • Thanks for posting that really is a lot of positive reviews. I like that at Pitt when the MBB coach was allegedly setting up soft schedules Barnes apparently reestablished some rivalry games. Given how Andersen and Casey value and approach rivalry games, this sounds like he Barnes may fit in well. It will be interesting to see how he leverages the collective attitudes and abilities of the coaching staff to improve the AD and facilities. With Casey, Andersen, Tinkle and Rueck, he ought to be able to generate interest and further improve facilities. I also look forward to improvements in the fan experience.

  7. Hey thanks OOB. I won’t be back full-time until the 3rd so you guys can do as you see fit until then.
Going to try to watch this game, though.

I view these teams are pretty even/mediocre. Gotta think Riley is due for a choke, but majority seems to be NE wins it.

  8. Per twitters Dennis Erickson retiring. Not sure if he wasn’t being asked back and this is a way of letting him go gracefully or he is truly retiring from coaching.

    • He announced Wyoming.
Hadn’t heard his name much in Oregon State recruiting news other than really early on. My guess is he wasn’t currently a player OSU was pursuing.

  9. Watching Stanford, and really wishing we can supplant them (and Utah) in the standings the next 2-3 years. I would like to see us beat one of them (most likely Stanford next year at home). That would be great progress.
Any chance we see Shaw go to the NFL for greener pastures in near future? If not, we need to get some rumors going — “Shaw to 49ers”.
Is Whittingham a lifer at Utah? Be nice to see him go too.

    • “Is Whittingham a lifer at Utah? Be nice to see him go too.”

Are you out of your ever fucking lovin mind???? GA is from SLC. He has family there. It’s his alma mater. I honestly think GA likes it here but that is the ONE job that if it ever opened up he’d be gone in a heartbeat. And I guarantee that would be one of the first calls either his agent or the Utah AD makes.

  10. Nebraska fans still complaining about Armstrong, convincing themselves he’s the problem?

They’re getting a preview of their next 2 years here with new QBs…

    • He IS reliable…

Time for Aluminum Mike Riley to start airing it out?

God I wish the Beavs could get NU on the schedule the next two years….

  11. So hey guys, how are the special teams looking after they unfairly fired that awesome special teams coach? Uh, just asking for a friend. Yeah.

  12. I’m no fan of UT, but I really hope they don’t “coug it”. I would like Smilin’ Mike to stay on this side of the “Pelini Wall”……. 9 win season.

  13. So Riley gave up with just under 4 minutes left? He stuck his 4th string qb in? What the hell is he thinking? Thank god that clown is gone, what a douchebag.

  14. for me this was the 5th most satisfying game of the season. Angry’s 9 win win-cap gets validated. It’s a year late, but this is probably Riley’s high water mark in Lincoln.

    • It’s not a win cap, It’s a loss cap. RiLLLLey. He’s won 10 games once before. But he’s NEVER had less than 4 losses in ANY college football season.

      • Angry’s classic post was that Riley’s upper limit was 9 wins. Yes, he won 10 games one year but ONLY because the Beavs played 13 regular season games (counting Hawaii) and that’s the only reason they were able to get to ten.

        • And NU fans shouldn’t get too excited, I forgot that Pelini had a couple of 10 win seasons, but they also came with 4 losses. So Whiskey is right………good for 4 losses a year. I think Solich was the last 11 win coach and they fired his ass.

    • I kind of thought there were opportunities for you to wave your hands more frantically. And BTW, Hawaii won their bowl game, so I don’t think that job is going to come around again.

      • I didn’t want to risk injuring my hands jiving too hard in a bowl game. There’s gotta be NFL teams out there needing some gaps cancelled, and I gotta keep these babies fresh

    • Good Lord, is there some drug in Lincoln I’m unaware of that all of the idiots start taking from birth?. They were barely beating shitty, less talented teams who fell apart in the 4th quarter against them.. These things aren’t a mystery if you follow college football and are not just obsessed with your hometown team!!!

  15. Riley press conference:
“Defensively we just gave up too many big plays”
    “[incoherent rambling]”
    “[more babbling]”

If Banker goes next, we’ll know Riley’s serious

  16. OT- I have the Arizona Bowl on in the background (I know). I just heard a Beav reference from the announcers.. I forgot that Darell Songy is at South Alabama. They are starting to get their butts kicked by Air Force, but Songy has 13 tackles so far. Looks like he has got his shit together now.

    • 13 tackles within 3 lines of the yard of scrimmage? Otherwise it’s a meaningless stat. I can rack up 13 tackles 20 yards downfield (AKA the Ray Lewis method into the HOF).

  17. One caller says he thinks Riley’s the right man to have at the top, but his staff needs to get it together. Says he’s glad Riley’s quick to pull the firing trigger.

Huh?! One overdue firing in like 15 years is not “quick to pull the trigger”. He only did it because he feels actual pressure to win at Nebraska. If Read was still stinking it up here with Riley, we know damn well he’d still be on staff. Riley’s loyalty only exists so far as he can coast and take advantage of the school. That gum chewer really annoys me.

    • that jumped out at me too. No one back there has done any homework on Riley’s staff development pattern. In the entire run of Riley’s collegiate career only one assistant (Paul Chryst) has gone on to be a head coach in his own right. Andersen has two in just two years. The great preponderance of the callers to that show are wistful about the old smash-mouth line play that used to define Nebraska football, and are correct in believing that controlling the line of scrimmage is the single biggest indicator of success, without seeming to have absorbed the fact that Riley is perhaps the most QB-centric coach in major college football and the type of play they want to return to is never going to come their guy.

      • Seems to be part of their arrogance and lack of interest in anything but the false narrative. The answers to Husker football future are all there in the Beav past (if they are open enough to truly understand what the past is telling them). First clue, it doesn’t have anything to do with “doing more with less”.

  18. Did a rought draft application letter today to be on Barnes’ hand licked 20 member fan advisory board. Hoping I can work remotely and dial in for conference calls. Got some ideas to help get OSU to a Rose Bowl in the next 5-6 years, rally the fan base & improve the game experience across the major sports.

Hope I get the call up. Ready to share what I feel many fans are looking for.

  19. So, when Oregon hires the USF running backs coach, does USF try to bring Telly Lockette back to Florida? I wonder how much Lockette likes living in the northwest and making multiple Florida recruiting trips during the year. Could see USF as a tempting move, if given an upgrade in duties/salary.

        • Refs will take care of it anyway. Apparently you just need to get inside the key to have a foul called, if youre UCLA.
Just saw Hamilton for UCLA get away with a double dribble on a fast break too. First game ive watched all season and I’m already annoyed with the Pac12 reffing

          • Beavs lost by 13. But overall stats looked improved. UCLA had two guys score over 20 points on us. Thompson Jr. Had 25 points. Maybe still some hope for this season??

  20. For anyone that saw it, was the Orange Bowl as good as S-I suggests? “One for the ages” hyperbole…Will Harbaugh stick around, or will the LA Rams tempt him?

Does UW have a shot today, or is Alabama with a dual threat like Hurts just too much? I imagine the game will feel like a home game for Alabama and fairly hostile for UW. I expect UW’s Petersen coaches a good game, but can’t quite get it done. And I won’t be surprised if there’s some officiating in ‘Bama’s favor.

There’s no one to like in the rose bowl, but better the PAC should win then Ped State. I look forward to Andersen and the Beavs beating USC in the near future.

    • it was the best bowl game of the season so far and I’ve seen much of all of them. As of this writing UW is hanging in tough. First possession of the second half by Bama will be the tale of the game, I think.

    • Washington has a good chance to be back there next year, and they’ll be a year harder. (That didnt sound right)

Anyway, theyre pretty new to that territory and will grow from the experience.

    • Rightfully so. West coast is weak. The fans and media, for the most part, couldn’t even handle my criticism out here. What I was writing was pretty light compared to East Coast journalism.

      Pansies abound.

  21. Per Adam Schefter:

“San Francisco is expected to make sweeping changes, dismissing both HC Chip Kelly and GM Trent Baalke, league sources tell ESPN.”

  22. http://www.vanityfair.com/magazine/2015/07/donald-ivana-trump-divorce-prenup-marie-brenner

    Fucking morons.

Ooooh… the elite coastal elites don’t understand my delicate psyche. They’re guilty of political correctness and shit. But I’m not a wuss for whining about the manufactured whine about about some straw whine.

    Fucking morons.

You deserve me in this state now. It’s precisely what you asked for. And you have no defense left.

You are naked to the stupid, and you are why.
