The last thread provided a heapin’ helpin’ of schadenfreude (and presidential politics), probably worth a new thread while waiting for angry’s return and all that recruiting action promised by nicebeaver in a couple weeks.

Feel free to go OT.
Some areas worth considering:
-WBB plays UW Sunday, should be a good test
-MBB showed heart vs UCLA, when are we gonna see results?

-Thoughts on additions to FB staff?
-Bowl games winding down, what’s the impact on the Beavs/the PAC?
-How can angry apply for that 20 member fan advisory board mentioned yesterday evening by OwnTheState?

GO BEAVS!………………oob

  1. Orange and Fiesta confirming my belief that Big Ten was ridiculously overrated this year.

This is why you can’t just track losses for the rankings, really inaccurate.

Oklahoma and Penn State should have gotten their shots too.

        • Because if you can only pick 4, that would mean squeezing someone else out. I don’t think anyone deserved to be squeezed out in favor of OU or PSU. As far as PSU being conference champion, that was derived from an arbitrary geographic system of divisions. It does not mean they were actually the best team in the conference over the season. And before you say they beat Ohio State, they also had twice the losses of Ohio State, and got absolutely blown out by Michigan.

          • They lost to Pitt in September, Clemson who just destroyed Ohio State also lost to Pitt. Penn State had bad month of September, I am not saying that shouldn’t matter but the idea that they are only conference champs because of divisions is nonsense or that Ohio State is clearly more deserving is nonsense, at worst they were co-champs with Ohio State while holding the tie-breaker and a 9 game winning streak which is a pretty damn strong resume.

If I were only picking 4; I would have picked Penn State over Ohio State, said it on selection Sunday and still believe it today.

You are falling for the old fashioned tracking of losses fallacy, “Ohio State has less losses therefore they are more deserving” is a very simplistic (and IMO wrong) way of determining the playoff field. The whole point of having a committee was to get away from that way of ranking teams.

I think that if the committee waited till selection Sunday to release rankings they’d have put Penn State in over Ohio State. That is how it should work, releasing weekly rankings is a bad idea.

  2. If New Years Eve is your time for assessing the legacy you are building, you may be inspired by Ken Goe’s recollection of a visit by Dennis Erickson.
    http://www.oregonlive.com/collegefootball/index.ssf/2016/12/saturday_morning_news_notes_li_47.html#incart_river_index

And, one of the links provided by Goe in that piece is worth a read. Not surprising to see parallels between Kyle Whittingham and GA: The use of “co” OC’s and the need for a QB expert on staff at Utah are explored here:
    http://www.sltrib.com/home/4765837-155/kragthorpe-whittinghams-latest-search-must-deliver

    From that piece:

Whittingham should be able to look beyond his usual, tight circle and find an innovator who can elevate Utah’s offense. Will he do it, though?

    Sound familiar?

  3. Some shit out there already about Chip coming back to the college game. Speculation about the Arizona schools with Graham and Rich-Rod both having issues. I think it would be fun to have him in the P-12 again.

    • I don’t see it, those jobs aren’t great and he could take a year off and get the pick of the litter next year. The only PAC job I could see him having an interest in would be UCLA if they canned Mora and were willing to pay 5 million a year.

        • A&M would be interesting. And it would show some balls on Chip’s part. I do think being at a major college in TX, CA, or FL would probably be desirable to Chip since recruiting is rumored to be what he disliked most. Take a job in one of those states major universities and much of the recruiting is done for you.

          • Sorry. Boosters are a part of the game. If you don’t win every single year, you deal with what the boosters think you should have done better.

The same is true of the NFL, except the owner is a singular entity.

      • I could definitely see him at ASU. I don’t think the blue bloods want to risk him at this point. So, I think it would have to be a notch below like UCLA or ASU. And ASU should be a pretty good gig, with decent in-state recruiting and close proximity to So Cal.

I heard a rumor he almost returned to UO, then backed out. He just may not want to return to college.

  4. Watching a show on Netflix called “At all costs” which is about AAU basketball. I’ll admit I’m fairly naive about this shit but to me it’s sickening. These AAU teams are driven by money from shoe companies and exploiting teenage kids. They don’t give two shits about anyone. This is what has ruined college basketball.

    Now get off my lawn

      • It’s his first exposure to the world of the Pump Brothers… apparently.

If anyone knew how the world was stacked against CR when he started, maybe they wouldn’t have been the racist shits they were in some supposed critique of his coaching.

But they were morons with mouths bigger than their brains, and we got what we got.

        • speaking of racist shits, I’ll just leave this here……….

          From the previous thread

          Jack says:
          DECEMBER 31, 2016 AT 10:32 PM
          Vote Saved. New Rating: -1
Motherfucker is the king of snowflakes… an orange one at that… fake gilding, if you will.

More correctly… he should be called a snowfake. And as Trumplethinskin takes your firstborn away for his foreign war(s) of choice, you can thank your stars that THE nigger didn’t kill America.

Sleep well snowflakes, white as hell.

          • I did say that.

Are you going to complain? Or is it all just a sliding scale of shitty morality for you?

Let’s go back to posts by you on this very blog about Obama’s bro-in-law.

            Shall we?

You can be dishonest with words all you want. But it’s time to call a spade a spade. I was loathe to believe the claims two months ago. But I have heard far worse from the Trump brigade now that they feel they can openly discuss their stupidity.

And man, are they stupid… or just weenies afraid to speak truth for fear of retribution.

Why bother softening what you and others think for the sake of PC? Be a man and announce everything in the vernacular of those who developed your brand of stupid and stuffed it into your tiny little head.

Or are you too weak of mind to not bow to the PC words of weakness? What’s it going to be? Are we shedding PC because “fuck you” feels good to the fifth grade mentality? Or are we going to throw Peepee the frog back into the cowardly swamp from which he rose?

You can’t have it both ways, snowflake.

          • .Lindsay’s four stomach’s. I think most here knew that.

But keep up the good fight Jack. You’ve got just as many fake names here as personalities in your head

          • Beavs lose to Ratfuck 96-92. Lmfao. This abortion of a season is finally over. Praying robaminson leaves on his own or is fired.

            –wsn, March 19, 2014

          • That’s just a quick look.

            Regarding multiple handles:
I don’t need to create alternate stupid people who speak in your groupthink terms just to be able to knock the stupid down. There’s just that much stupid in the world. If you’re saying you’re not many or even any of them, so be it. But if you don’t see my avatar, it’s not me.

            Can you say the same?

          • So Jack refers to half black people as niggers and that’s not racist, but WSN points out the fact that CR got hired and could recruit only because of his relation to POTUS and that is?

If CR could coach he’d have a coaching job right now.

          • Dude… you are clueless… except for your last statement. What I provided was just a snapshot at the very end of CR’s tenure. There’s a shit ton more of it. I just called moron’s bluff.

Shall we also talk about your misplaced whining about Solyndra and Benghazi in those same threads? It seems you were also a whiny follower of wrongful groupthink on those issues as well.

At least you’re consistent when you call POTUS the half black.

          • You poor buttercup. You’re close on a lot of shit, but you succumb to the groupthink in the end.

Robaminson isn’t racist? It’s just really really really really really stupid?

Come on, son. You know better than that. You can shed the PC code crap language for racists. John Birch is in the White House now. Embrace it, son.

        • I don’t either. To me it just appears to be one on one rat ball with an offensive concept. A single high ball screen with free lancing added in isn’t an offense. It’s too much like the NBA. Which I find even less enjoyable anymore.

        • March Madness day 1 is usually cool, until the bracket blows up.
Beav hoops was exciting last year. Otherwise agree with you guys.

Remember Hoop Dreams? That showed well how much schools care about kids.

    • There’s some shit in my neck of the woods called “classic basketball” they cut eight and nine year olds and the ones that make it pay a few hundred bucks for the priviledge. A neighbor’s kid could only make the “B” team and the parents told the coach, thanks but no thanks at that price and the coach got pissed off, said some crap about no chance of making the high school team in the future.

    • It’s challenging to enjoy much of it if you analyze it or think about it too much. The whole college football context is fucked, high school following, but I hope that OSU can win a rose bowl with integrity.

I don’t care about rigged bowl or playoff systems, if the Beavs won the Pac outright without recruiting scandals and player behavior problems, then won the rose bowl, great. I don’t care what theirranking would be or what others think of them. Not as “underdogs” or “Cinderellas,” but as a team that played the game well and knew they belonged there.

Corruption generally follows in systems where’s there’s money to be made. AAU…Hell, how about Nike providing uniforms for college teams, hosting football camps at a Nike complex in Portland – which conveniently gets recruits close to Eugene and allows them to make the Nike/UO association if it wasn’t easy enough already….

I return to my own lawn…

          • Leave television out of it moron… unless that’s where you spend your mind.

As each of your kids goes off to die in a foreign land because a stupid trust fund brat bullied and lied and grifted his way into office, remember that you chose their fates with gusto.

You don’t get to bitch and whine any more snowflake. Your guy is the man. This is what you wanted. This is what you’re going to get, you fucking pussy.

Nut up, buttercup. This is your reward.

          • Not that it’s any of YOUR business, but I didn’t vote for him. So shut the fuck up with your stupid non nonsensical pure conjecture bullshit. You have zero idea what is going to happen in the next four years. I’ve stated it before and I’ll say it again. What you think, what you know and what you think you know are 3 different things. YOUR opinion is part of the reason he’s the president elect. Stop deflecting, whining, bitching, complaining and work on your own accountability. Which right now stands in the same pile. Pure shit.

We survived 8 years of Bill Clinton. 8 years of your idol and 8 years of Obama. We will survive the next 4.

And you’ve already stated your opinion of the “people” that live in “fly over states”. They aren’t people to you and your elitist ilk. It’s really sad but you’re too fucking smug to realize you’re doing EXACTLY what you accuse those “people” of.

          • I always love that stupid line. I will never borrow it, because it is really that stupid. But let’s sum up what you just wrote.

Jack doesn’t know anything about what I think, so let me tell you all what Jack thinks.

My attitude is just getting warmed up. The attitude you convey in your very last sentence is what mine was about two months ago. Now I realize that I am at fault for not raging against the machine, instead letting the people go on their merry way without knowing what I think about what they just openly said in the line at the supermarket.

They’re going to hear it now. And I will cut no corners in the offing. Their brand of stupidity will be forcefully met with truth instead of me just going along to get along.

8 years of my idol? My attitude has zero to do with stupid people thinking stupid things. If you want to bitch and whine about rural elites like you’re some stupid dating site with a bad jingle, be my guest. You’re still painfully wrong.

You are getting precisely what your divisive ideas asked for. And now that you and everyone who whined about their wimpy little rural sensitivities are about to get killed off by the ultimate coastal elite, I has the sads for you too.

Too wussy to put in a hard day’s work… to stupid to vote for the people who would let them be free. We’ve always been in it together. But you want it to be about what others think instead. That’s not going to fly any more.

          • “My attitude is just getting warmed up. The attitude you convey in your very last sentence is what mine was about two months ago. Your attitude has been exactly the same since……. well, ever since I’ve been here. Nice try. Try shutting your elitist, holier than thou mouth and opening your brain and ears.

            Speaking of morons…………..

Spewing garbage that your liberal studies professor drilled into your head is exactly the same as spewing the same garbage that was drilled into your head in church. Neither is “free thinking”

          • I’ve plainly stated many things here that you can compile. Some are liberal. Some are conservative. And yet you choose to create straw men instead?

            Your nihilism knows no bounds.

          • And while I won’t deny my own lunacy, I do have to say that it’s hard to take your assessment of me seriously. I’ve had you arguing with well known movie and literary (mostly non sequitur, but sometimes relevant) quotes many times.

  5. Just throwing it out there, but I learned today that Scott Barnes has a senior son who is a decent hooper. Missed his junior year with an injury. 6′ 8″ and looks like he still has room to grow. I personally think we need to get a couple of athletic freaks on our squad if we are going to rise to the top of the PAC, but he could be a kid who Tinkle brings on and he is able to contribute down the road, plus he wouldn’t cost us a scholarship. Just throwing scenarios out, not saying I have heard any buzz about it, but wouldn’t be surprised given Tinkle’s willingness to bring on staff kids.

Here is to a great 2017 for Beaver Nation!

  6. Looks like the preseason polls were right. Bama’s D is like an assembly line. Every year they lose a few AA’s and number one picks and seamlessly replace them the next season.
Hopefully Clemson can beat them. UW and tOSU were a year early to the party.

  7. “Hey Chip…. I we’ve got a spare room at the house here in Maui…come spend a few weeks and we can talk about getting the band back together somewhere. Mark”

PS: instead of “win the day” how about “spend all day” bhwaa…-ha-ha

    • Was just going to post about that. Who are we hearing as potenial WR and Safties coaches?
Would be nice to bring in somebody who has a couple of recruits willing to follow him.

    • W.R.T. assistant football coaches: It would appear that the Utes and the Beavs have a similar need, that being a competent QB coach. Here’s hoping they’re both not going after the same guy(s).

      JMO obviously.

Kragthorpe: Kyle Whittingham’s latest search must deliver a QB expert
      http://www.sltrib.com/home/4765837-155/kragthorpe-whittinghams-latest-search-must-deliver

So here he goes again. Kyle Whittingham is giving himself the (almost) annual opportunity to do something extraordinary with Utah’s football program, for once.

He’s persistent, if not consistent. The following excerpt is from the story that oob linked to.

Will he succeed this time? Is this the moment when Whittingham’s adventurous management of his offensive staff finally produces a Pac-12 South championship? Or is he doomed to remaining just short of the elite level of his profession, having never discovered an offense to match his defense?

Friday’s moves of co-offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick’s firing and running backs coach Dennis Erickson’s retirement give Whittingham two offensive openings. Utah needs a quarterbacking expert. That’s priority No. 1, whether the new coordinator has such expertise himself or brings in someone else to work exclusively with the QBs. A coach with a background like that of David Yost, newly hired as Utah State’s offensive coordinator, is what Utah needs.

      • I don’t see anything in that article about us needing a QB coach. And I sort of appreciate the one we have for being able to get MM out of his head and into the game.

  8. WBB up on PAC12 Net now, end of first qtr and Gulich with a nice move to make it 21-14 good gals, capping a 7-0 run.

UPDATE: #22 Beavs lead #9 Huskies at the half. 44-22, Gill rockin’, we don’t need no stinkin’ modern building!!

  9. Saw people talking about Packers assistant John Rushing as a potential defensive coach on Scout. Coached at Utah State previously. Don’t know if there are any legs to that talk, but fits the criteria (previously worked for a utah college football team)
