  1. Dang… missed #1 by a hair. Posted this earlier but for the game thread.

This will be a Rocky mountain low for the Beavs. (Apologies to John Denver. Good singer. Bad pilot.)

McIntrye is a notorious a-hold that will love putting it to defecting members of his staff.

Colletto is Seth Collins minus the speed. Buffs big as they want 48-14?

  2. Looks like today is going to be a GREAT test of our offensive line, as Colorado’s defensive line is pretty good.

And already our line is getting their asses kicked. -2 on the run and sack in 5 plays.

    • I can’t figure what the fuck happened to the O line. They looked like one of the strengths of the team early in the season. Now I swear to God they just let guys through half the time.

  3. There are some glimmers of a defense showing up.

I know… still a lot of game to play. But we just forced punts on consecutive series.

Is that the first time we’ve done that to an FBS team this year?

  4. Reminds me of last year’s CO game. Buffs tried to beat us through the air but couldnt connect on many passes. Then they went to the ground game in the 2nd half and ran all over us

    • Watching this team play is like chewing glass. Does Coletto know how to get rid of a football? Might as well put Rainman out there in a bicycle helmet.

    • Dude is hilarious to watch run. To me he always looks about half way out of control or like he’s about to fall down. But he has the vision and burst to be a step ahead of the defense most of the time.

    • Buffs passing game has been out of sync and our D has been keeping Montez scrambling just enough that he’s throwing on the run. Our offense has given up 4 or 5 sacks already though, with only a small handful of positive yardage plays(and some of those were broken plays where Colleto scrambled for a few yards)

    • Defense has looked half decent.

O line is hot garbage, it’s been a sack fest. Colletto has made a few decent passes, the receivers kinda seem surprised when the ball is there on time and they have had a couple of drops.

  5. 4 sacks and between sacks Colletto hitting receivers in the hands but they aren’t catching. If it is not one thing it is another with this team.

    • I would have thought the negligent play would have been the deciding factor. He had no idea who he was targeting precisely because he decided he wanted to spear someone.

  6. Anyone else having trouble ( like it load at all) with their pac 12 stream. I’ve got sling TV and literally every other channel works

  7. What’s wrong with Scootin’ Luton? Concussion protocol?

It’d really open up the run game if he were out there overthrowing receivers….

    • He gets exposed with the lack of touch on the deep ball but if he played for Leach, he’d put up huge numbers on those short timing routes.

      • after he missed on those long bombs they stopped calling it. When Luton plays they just throw one long bomb each half just to show he can heave it and loosen up the D and then go to those short routes to sideline and over the middle. Boise won for a decade with that strategy

      • Weak and scared? 18 for 22 on 4th down this year. We’re throwing everything out there to try and make something work, that’s anything but scared.

        • Smith might be on the verge of a major strategic breakthrough; like that coach who never punts, only not that crazy. I’ve never understood punting on the + side of the 50 when you are 4th and short. Riley was really weak minded regarding this proposition. He’d punt on the far side of the 50 almost every time

  8. Does Luton always wear his mouthguard on his helmet rather than in his mouth?
Or is a backup mouthguard? Seems like a bad plan to not use it, especially with all of the sacks we’ve given up today.

  9. I know Luton’s not popular here, but do the receivers seem like they step up more when he’s in the game? Blount and Colletto hold the ball too long and the receivers seem to check out mentally.

        • I see a difference in receiver play because I see a difference in QB play. Colletto is a disaster. Luton is better. With Blount, I don’t see much difference in receiver play, no. Blount seems better on the deeper pass than Luton so seems there are more big plays. At least early in the year. Those have diminished as the season’s gone on. I assume some of that is Blount being hurt.

    • Luton is not a terribly good QB but as the only one of the three who was offered a scholarship (even if it was Idaho which has since dropped down a division) you can see the difference between him and two walk-ons. Couldn’t be more distinct.

  10. It doesn’t make any sense to me that you could tip toe tap a catch and immediately step out of bounds and the catch would count, but then in this instance, tip toe touches in bounds first and then heal touches out of bounds nezt

  11. That freebie 75 yard touch down run to start the 2nd half certainly hurts now. Beavs, for as bad as they’ve been, are playing pretty even with Colorado today

    • Coaches fed up with Luton and Blount being injury prone. Building for the future and not this year. Coaches felt Colletto earned a shot at starting a game.

  12. Luton tearing it up, and what a gorgeous throw there to Timmy!

Also, apparently he’s the only QB that knows how to throw to Hodgins.

  13. Hodgins is TOO GOOD!!!

A PI call on a 2 point conversion should be a penalty on the kick return. That dude just MUGGED Hodgins the entire way and it doesn’t matter.

  14. OK I now believe that one guy can make a big difference. To me everybody should just play their position as well as they can doesn’t matter who’s QB. I don’t understand why the receivers are all the sudden catching the balls and why all the sudden the offense is blocking. Everybody should be doing their job doesn’t matter who’s behind them. But I guess this just goes to show you.

  15. I’m not sure I’ve seen a DB more unaware in passing situations than Jalen Moore. Holy crap he has never made a good play on a ball in the air ever.

He easily could have broken up that pass but he “Went for a pick” and was NOWHERE NEAR where the ball went instead.

  16. I love the strategy of “Holding on basically every play because refs won’t always call it” like UO’s receivers and Colorado’s DBs. Like on 2nd down.

    • Is it? The guy above predicted it verbatim, and I think we all had to have that thought.
It’s very believable. What is unbelievable is that guy is still our kicker.

  17. Ok FUCKING CUT CHOKER IMMEDIATELY!

I’m so fucking sick of this shit. Our fucking punter HAS to be better at kicking PATs than Choker is, just have him do it!

    Jesus fucking christ.

  18. My much meaner comment about Choker didn’t get posted. But that dude is the worst. Seriously, just have our punter kick the PATs.

    • Colorado 2017?.. you mean where he made 4/5 FG’s.. all his PAT’s and the only kick he missed was a 52 yd attempt that was dead on and just a few yards short.. you mean that Colorado 2017?

        • Glad we went for FG. Given it was 4th and 8, plenty of time on clock, and Beavs had all momentum, it was a no brianer. Going for it would have been a desperate move. Usually I appreciate your candid and thoughtful commentary but yesterday seemed a bit over the top and emotional with criticism of play calling and Luton. The first TD to Hodgins was the perfect call against that D. Tough play but the right call period. Had you been coaching yesterday CU wins by 100.

          • I doubt it. I would have started Luton, for one, since he’s better than Colletto.
In general Smith and company have called good games, but a lot of questionable play calling yesterday. They just got away with it because Colorado has been in decline on both sides of the ball since their hot start.

  19. Wow. That game was a rollercoaster riding another rollercoaster that got hit by a tornado.

Glad to see the offense get back on track, and the defense got JUST enough stops to give us a shot.

Both Hodgins brothers, Luton, and Jefferson were beasts.

Choker and basically all of our DBs need to be replaced ASAP.

But in the end we somehow won the game. Just amazing.

Last thread someone asked how long until Smith is on the hotseat. The answer to that question is NEVER. This team doesn’t give up and has been in striking distance of almost every 2nd half this year. And given the recruiting we’ve seen so far, you have to imagine a nice jump next year.

    GO BEAVS!!!!!!!!

    • I assume this is sarcastic. I think everyone was on board with this through last week, and let’s not overreact TOO much to one week, but…

Can we say the defense has made SOME progress? With how little talent the team actually has, they seems to have improved from like an F- to like a D, right? The defensive line and OLBs in particular are at least making some plays, even if the secondary is hopeless.

      • yeah 100% joking lol… except for the 75 yard td run at the beginning of the 3rd I thought they played pretty well. I’m too lazy to go look up if jeromy reichner played last week but I think he made a big difference in helping to pressure montez and bottling up the inside run today

      • You could tell at the beginning of the game that was a completely different unit. Elu was getting leverage and a shoulder in the gap. Reichner was being disruptive. Rashid and Smith were active. And people were actually getting sticks.

It wasn’t a complete 180, but it was in the positive axis.

      • yards don’t beat you.. points do..and despite 500+ yards given up OSU’s defense only gave up 27 points other 7 came on pick six….and they made the stops they needed to help win the game.. other 7 came on pick six

  20. one play in particular that comes to mind was I think CU’s 2nd to last drive in the 4th where they had to kick a field goal.. they had 1st or 2nd and 10 around the 20 and he broke through the line on a rollout play. He got through the gap so fast that the OL had arm choke him and then pushed him down from behind and drew a holding call that pushed them back enough that they couldn’t get the 1st

  21. 3 for 3 on 4th down!!!!
Gotta to hand it to the offensive line, Luton and Colletto for doing their jobs. They all seemed focused and very business-like. Awesome win!!!!!

  22. I was in and out of watching this one, but it seemed like CU’s playcalling was a big factor in this one. We did a good job stopping the run, but they were stubborn about running when the passing game was still very effective.

Luton gets credit for not just having a good game, but leading basically two game-winning drives. I’ll say it again: our QB play this year is strong evidence that this coaching staff is an upgrade.

Choukair…well, at least he hit the last PAT.

  23. Smith to Ron Callan regarding his staff:
“They are doing a good job coaching the guys positively, but honestly”
To me, at least, the “but honestly” means no phony sugarcoating. So very different than the gum chewer.

    • I heard that in the post game too, OOB. It’s discrete comment but profound in a way. No one ever associated profundity with Riley

  24. Not much words for this win. Is it a foundation building win? Lucky win? I don’t know. I feel like it’s the latter. Crazy day in the pac 12.

    • Give them credit, they kept grinding. Despite losses piling up this year, they’re giving great effort and showing flashes that things can/will be better.

    • Its a league win and a road win….and therefore important for building player confidence and also their confidence in what the coaching staff is teaching. It would have sucked for them not to win any league games. Beating a 5-2 team on the road is a decent accomplishment for this team.

Foundation building? That might be a stretch taking the game in isolation, but even the losses are part of building the foundation as odd as that might sound at first.

    • Lucky my ass…..beavs outplayed them in every facet of the game in the second half. It’s not like Colorado had a bunch of turnovers and handed it to the beavs. The beavs took it from them and deserved to win it. Hell, the beavs should be given two wins for this game because they won it in regulation until choukair choked again. This team is legit offensively when they have a healthy QB. .I wouldn’t be shocked to win another game this season. Too bad choukair cost the beavs in Nevada or they’d be 3-5. Great win and could give them much needed confidence in the last four games.

      • Knock it off with the picking on the PK and wholly blaming him for losses or not winning when you deem it proper. His misses wouldn’t matter if our D wasn’t giving up 30+ points in the games you cite.

So just shut up about it already. It makes you look like an idiot bully picking on what you perceive is an easy target.

      • The PAT was blocked. I am surprised it has not been mentioned. We can argue whether it had proper height when blocked, but it was not a flat out miss.

  25. Ducks show no D on Az’s first drive.

And surprisingly, they’re uniforms are ugly…Az’s look pretty ridiculous too…

    Go Cats!

  26. Yikes, the oregon defense might be worse than OSU. Ducls down 7-0 early to Arizona.
This might just be one of those rare perfect days for OSU sports fans

    • Today’s game – and UO’s performance so far this evening – indicates the CW could be winnable. OSU’s play calling looks pretty balanced and diverse, with many players getting strategic roles (e.g. Crazy Leg Colleto) and getting to contribute…If Jefferson and Pierce are healthy they’re big play threats. Aydon seems to be “rounding” into shape and contributing. Could be an entertaining.

      • I don’t want to jump the gun, but maybe having Reichner out there getting his legs under him is making the game easier for everyone else?

It seemed like the backers especially could concentrate on what they were supposed to be doing rather than having to wipe the D-line’s ass the entire game. Now if only the secondary had a coach…

        • I’m with mckalk below; if Morris can be in a game or two to get his legs under him, he, Reichner, and Dunn could make the CW very interesting.

          • If he is eligible to do that then it’s a no brainer, and the D would look a lot different.
Where is he in recovery? Haven’t heard much.

          • Morris hasn’t been ruled out for the season as far as I know. Last I saw was “several weeks away” near the start of October. I’m thinking/hoping he gets a little time vs Stanford and UW and is close to 100% for the CW.

Anyone here have more recent news??

  27. So Herbert is still considering coming back for his senior year rather than hitting the draft where he is projected by some to be a #1 pick?
He’d be better off quitting today and focusing on the draft. His stock is just plummeting these past couple of games

  28. It seemed like the defense was a little better with Reichner and Dunn out there. I wonder if Morris will return for the last couple of games (especially against Oregon)? Any bump in talent is huge for this team’s defense.

    • Gotta love that ESPN chose a duck homer for color commentary who spent the entire 4th quarter pumping up Herbert like he’s Jesus on turf, all while Herbert is overthrowing his receivers all over the place. “9 times out of 10 he makes that throw”

Um…he missed it 9 times out of 10 tonight.
Guy was even pleading to Herbert to stay another year at oregon ao he can become legendary like Joey Harrington and take the team to the playoffs next year.

    • He’s less of a fraud than fortune cookie so they’re all snowblind.

Man, watching the flaming shit show at Florida State really has me dreaming of what could have been…

    • A missed chip shot FG by the Huskies and the Ducks thought they were in the national playoffs. Their insufferable fans can now go away until next year. Herbert should make sure he doesn’t get injured and then run from Cristobal as fast as he can to the NFL!

  29. What a great couple days.
Goph’s and Beavs win on the same weekend for the first time in forever.
    Ducks and Badgers both lose.
Rueck gets Brown and a B1G VB title almost a lock.
    Go Rodents.
Luton or somebody better get a helmet sticker.

  30. Improbable but great win yesterday! Should convince the team that they can play in this league. Looking forward to next weekends game; nothing USC likes more than to come into a cold, dark and wet Reser for a long night game!

  31. Scanned O-Live this a.m to see reactions to yesterday. Canzono laments Cristobal is ”creating s football sin” by “wasting Herberts talent.” I like Herbert, but isn’t some of it on his decisions?

And for those that might still read OLive, have they been saying anything about OSU’s Jefferson? Talk about talent. A FR and One of the leading rushers and scorers in the country, this despite uneven play from 3 QBs and missed time due to injury. You know he’s getting the ball, and he still busts big runs. You know he’s getting the ball, and he still scores. And scores again. And again.

Next year team’s will likely game plan for him, and it will be more challenging for him, but he’ll hopefully enjoy more consistent QB play. His JR year he’ll likely be bigger, stronger, faster…

He deserves more recognition. Who recruited him BTW ?

  32. Next week U$C, apparently local kid Hufanga out with broken collarbone, their fans freaking out, hopefully Luton and Hodgins take advantage. Too bad for Hufanga. Personally I would have enjoyed watching him battle, and of course loose. Sorry CV, and worse Trojan, kids still get no love from me

  33. I’m not sure how it works, but regarding Pierce’s injury……..if recovery is going to take two or three weeks, wouldn’t redshirting be something to consider? He played as a true freshmen and it seems like he’s played in exactly four games this year. Would he have a redshirt?
