Realistic… the program was completely dismantled to below the foundation when Riley left. The first individual brought in to start the re-design was flawed (still not exactly sure what went on there). You also had to pay off debts for past basketball coaches that were flawed, contracts had to be honoured. Games were scheduled for pure financial reasons to get out of debt. It’s done, that dark part of Beaver history is in the past .
Now comes the rebuilding process, it’s going to be some years before this program is competitive, but it will be rebuilt (look at WASU). The new coach will grow into this job, and as he grows so will the program, recruits will come as an identity is formed. The Beavers will rise again.
The meltdown over on the Benny’s house forum is amusing if anyone wants a good laugh. Bunch of old dudes bragging about being better fans, due to their age, and applauding effort over wins like that matters.
I’ll expect them to win when they win. Like, more than a few games. Until then, I don’t. I expect they’ll be bad again next year, too. Probably year after, and the year after that, too.
And to be clear, I’m fairly apathetic about it. I stopped investing much emotion into the team in the last of the Riley years. It’s not like I’m playing.
YaHOOOOOOOOOO! Finally.
I have had a bottle of champagne sitting in the back of my fridge that has been toted back and forth to the Axe game since the last victory in 2003. Just popped the bottle. Man does that taste SWEET. Fuck the Badgers!
Here are the grim details. I guess I feel slightly better about the Beav defense!
The Huskies (1-11, 0-8) this season gave up the most yards (7,409), yards per game (617.4), points (605) and points per game (50.41) of any major college football team in NCAA history.
Excellent lesson for this team. A 14 point lead early, and being in front for all but about 5 minutes, gals will remember that no lead is enough till the final buzzer.
Remember, Rueck credits the first loss (3 years ago??) to ND for helping his gals improve.
ND owns the series 4-0……….maybe we’ll see ’em again this year.
Very similar to the home loss last season as the Beavs led the game until midway through 4th last year when ND got the lead and closed it out. But it is a good sign that this team can play with the best this early in the year with a fairly weak post play.
Rueck explained in post game that a T was called but reversed. That T was for him stepping on the court, reversed when it was noted that a media time out was in effect.
Other T was, I believe, due to something Rueck said. He mentioned that the game seemed “choppy”, indicating that the officiating seemed inconsistent. Got to be careful when commenting on officials, would love to hear uncensored remarks.
How about the ND gal who held three fingers in the face of Beav player after making a three? I’ll take Warren’s word for it, I’m not paying for the stream.
Warren may have been tired, too. He seemed to do a better job on the Men’s games in the Virgin Islands. He certainly is better at basketball than baseball.
Wonder if part of that was fatigue? They were playing South Carolina down to the wire less than 24 hours ago while Notre Dame had a pretty easy game earlier in the day.
I think they’ll be good, but don’t have any firepower in the paint, so that will likely cap their upside. This is probably the weakest OSU team in the paint since Hamblin’s sophomore year? Anyway, I think it will show when they come up against elite teams like ND. OSU gave up 35 offensive rebounds in the last two games, and were out-rebounded in both. That hasn’t happened much the past several years. They got lucky with S Carolina as they gave that one away to OSU at the free throw line. Was hoping Aquino would come in a help fill the huge hole in the middle that Gulich left, but it seems unlikely she’ll see the floor this year, if ever.
Officially, she has an undisclosed medical condition that is keeping her out this season. It’s more precautionary than anything else and hopefully it gets better with time. If we had her, the sky would be the limit. She is as smooth as silk and has the potential to be the type of impact player that generally goes to UConn.
Just internet rumors, but nothing solid. But…If she sits out many more games the team would be better to redshirt her rather than use up a year of eligibility with a good part of the season already gone.
I don’t pay attention to Nikegon sports that much, but I thought they were decent at a lot of things… not like the shambles their academics have become.
Texas Tech is firing head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Have seen Jim Leavitt’s name on the list for both TT and Colorado now. Seems like a decent chance he ends up getting poached by some team during the upcoming coaching musical chairs we see every offseason. Might be good news to those hoping to see oregon’s recruiting class take a hit
I thought Kliff Kingsbury was doing a pretty good job. Been to a couple of bowl games. This year they lost their starting QB in the first game with a high ankle strain and he did not make it back until the 12th game. The number 2 QB suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung. They still won 5 games. College coaching is a rough gig.
Just saw the BeavRecruiting tweet with the most recent championship for each school in the conference. Beavs having to lug all this Pac-12 dead weight around! ;-)
The likelihood of replacing Leach with a home run hire is minimal. It’s good for OSU if Leach is gone. Colorado is likely to be entering rebuild mode as well. 6-6 in 2020 could be within reach. We should finally have upperclassmen on defense by then also.
So it looks like it’s just Leach doing what Leach does every year–letting his agent spread rumors about other job openings so he can squeeze more money out of his current employer.

Must have been a quick comeback. A few minutes ago when I checked we were up by 14 with a few minutes to go
Yep, a 15-point lead with 6 1/2 minutes left in the 4th. Nearly coug’d it.
Ultimately, the Cocks couldn’t keep it up.

That’s awesome!
Talent!
Oh, and Angry the U Conn set record for all time worst defense this year. We had to be right on their tales I would think. Story on ESPN.com

Wbb off to hot start, lead #1 Irish 29-17 at the end of the 1st. Yes, 29
Up 9 at half, 50-41
My audio feed has been pretty choppy. Warren made it sound like Rueck has been tossed on double techs?
Lost by 10.
“3:35 4Q – Oregon State 77, Notre Dame 77”
Sounds like it was close til the end, good things in store for this team.
Excellent lesson for this team. A 14 point lead early, and being in front for all but about 5 minutes, gals will remember that no lead is enough till the final buzzer.

Beav women went totally flat in the 4th. Team is still good just sounds like they haven’t total gelled yet.
Wonder if part of that was fatigue? They were playing South Carolina down to the wire less than 24 hours ago while Notre Dame had a pretty easy game earlier in the day.
Could be. Im thinking the team still needs to catch up to Slocums speed. Shes a half a step ahead of everyone, and fatigue compounds that.
I think they’ll be good, but don’t have any firepower in the paint, so that will likely cap their upside. This is probably the weakest OSU team in the paint since Hamblin’s sophomore year? What is her story? Do you happen to know?
Officially, she has an undisclosed medical condition that is keeping her out this season. It’s more precautionary than anything else and hopefully it gets better with time. If we had her, the sky would be the limit. She is as smooth as silk and has the potential to be the type of impact player that generally goes to UConn.
Reading between the lines one would guess an enlarged heart or another cardiac condition.
Just internet rumors, but nothing solid. But…If she sits out many more games the team would be better to redshirt her rather than use up a year of eligibility with a good part of the season already gone.
We suck at womens basketball too! All of our players get physically dominated in every sport!!!
Civil War’s over. You can take a break now, duckie
But what sports site wouldn’t be complete without Duck fan contributing nothing but being a major dick?
Dick is the way of the Duck.
Except Ducks don’t have dicks because they are a bunch of pussies.
I don’t pay attention to Nikegon sports that much, but I thought they were decent at a lot of things… not like the shambles their academics have become.
I guess we’ll take your word for it.
Speaking of ND, they put USC down for good today.
Poor USC.
They just don’t have the talent to compete on this level.
Just wait til Helton gets his players.

Some school is going to get a great OC next year.
The rumor down there is that Mack Brown is going to try to get him to UNC.
Mack Brown to UNC is like us rehiring DE.
If you want to see someone in their class take a hit, you should want Leavitt to remain where he is.
Why’s that?
Because Leavitt got in trouble for choking and/or physically abusing players at Colorado.
Rimshot for Jack
South Florida, not Colorado
Just saw the BeavRecruiting tweet with the most recent championship for each school in the conference. Beavs having to lug all this Pac-12 dead weight around! ;-)
Men’s hoops up 1 point with 19 seconds left.
Beavs beat LBSU by 3 to go to 5-1.
Watched the last 6 minutes. Pretty ragged, but a road win nonetheless.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.seattletimes.com/sports/wsu-cougar-football/report-says-mike-leach-would-be-interested-in-returning-to-texas-tech/%3famp=1 Mike leach might leave WSU
Hey… at least he won one Apple Cup.
But he never came within two scores of Petersen, and likely never would.
The likelihood of replacing Leach with a home run hire is minimal. It’s good for OSU if Leach is gone. Colorado is likely to be entering rebuild mode as well. 6-6 in 2020 could be within reach. We should finally have upperclassmen on defense by then also.
Leach is not leaving wsu for Texas tech. He’s currently suing them.
Thats what i was going to post. Hes an idiot if he does go back, unless they pay him what is left on his last contract also.
I believe that is over with and he lost. I am sure he might be willing to go back with the right compensation and contract language.
Nope

My bad.
It’s Texas. No matter how many millions he has or is paid, he’s still new money. And new money can go fuck itself if it wants to argue with old money.

Honestly, I don’t know why he bothers with college football. He would likely be a better NFL OC than he ever would a college head coach.
