That was me. That wasn’t a deep ball. I was just saying he’s not even close to our fastest receiver and hasn’t shown any deep tds but one on a misdertion where he was wide open. We should have 5 deep threats but it hasn’t shown up.
Lindsey had his best game as a Beaver, but he has not deserved more PT. Played so much cause Bradford, Flemings, and Irish were out. He can’t beat those others out. And no this is not poor talent evaluation on the coaches. He drops balls and can’t consistently get open. You got lucky.
Beavs playing two hand touch. Stanford did nothing Oregon State handed them that drive. Hopefully with the way the Beavs are moving the ball ribs can make adjustments.
It’s a fast start by Beavs standard if they can keep this up and play like they normally do in the second half I like our chances. Can’t afford any turnovers in this game.
Lindsey had his best game due to Bradford, Flemings, and Irish not playing. He doesn’t consistently get open and drops the ball. Jet sweep has been his only success. He hasn’t earned more PT. Your ego to never be wrong is and you spinning it is unbelievable.
You missed the point. You keep saying how great he is, but there has been no evidence of that. I hope he has figured it out. Sports history has shown if there is some talent anyone can have a big game. Being good consistently is what coaches look for. After three seasons you would expect a 4* to have at least one good game. You use this one game as an example of how right you are. Just like Jake Thompson where you used one bad game to prove how right you were.
Quote me where I say how great he is. Post the quote.
What I actually said on the Stanford blog is he was the best deep threat this game, and Harrison was second. Both came true.
Nice stop d. Harrison is obviously great. Nolan looks much more relaxed and it helps having JJ back there. Which receivers will leave after this season since they won’t have to sit out? Beason and Harrison have those spots locked down for awhile.
Good D. Those deep slants are hard to cover. Short slants you can slip a LB into the path but deep ones it’s all on the DB. Our DBs are better but still working on it.
That 2nd down screen call was not good! Only when they are mounting pressure. Harrison should be in there on long distance. Get comeback and flood routes (intermediate). Screens are not going to work against a lack of pressure.
Actually like the branding and helmets with logos for this ESPNU broadcast then those big game ones on ESPN where they constantly showed Kid Benny on every commercial. That was horrible for our image, but this looks good and feels as close to Erickson team branding and feel I have seen since.
Anytime the defenders freeze or play inside leverage (like they did) QB should keep! I was talking about the play before with J2 getting 9 on 1st down though!
OSU plays to their competition. We can’t blowout inferior opponents yet. They should be up big. Bad spots, mental lapses and penalties are the only thing keeping stanford in this. It should be 24-10 bc dumbass should never miss a pat.
Who said dominant? So far they’re clearly the better team are they not? Stanford is missing 4 starters. All that I’m saying is OSU should be up double digits but aren’t because of themselves not stanford.
There’s a few idiots on here that downvote everything I post ha ha. Very Middle school-esque. Oh well! The movie Idiocracy has some merit there I guess :)
Keep feeding jj. Never stop.
Nolan is getting a little over confident. Trying to fit throws into tight spaces. Check down. Check down.
Attack the edges. Stanford starting to crash to the middle.
Defense, find some ways to get pressure. Current blitzes aren’t getting home and the secondary can’t cover for long.
Saw another news site already say it’s Oregon if UW can’t go. Not sure which site it was, Wilner?
Seems like USC has no incentive to play next week. They could develop a covid outbreak and have a no-contest and still be conference champs. Unless the Pac decides it would go to the winner of 2 2nd place teams in a faux championship game
With his progress, and the fact that Gebbia won’t have spring practice, Nolan should surpass Gebbia and have the fall camp advantage. We’re seeing some of his running advantage and he’s clearly more comfortable already. If he would throw more quickly when he makes a decision, I’d feel better. I keep expecting a pick…
Corners aren’t Supposed to look back until they see the receiver’s eye’s get big and hands go up, downfield. You don’t look back for the ball as you’re running up field with the receiver lol. Thanks though
Dude why are you always so defensive? Did I say it was ok? That’s why I said it because you’re not supposed to and that’s what screwed him. That doesn’t make him slow.
I see a bunch of guys tryyto do to much and do other people’s job on defense. Then what do you know they get burned on misdirection or a pa fake. This team lacks discipline.
What I don’t like is that Stanford just seems to “try” and everything happens for them. So whenever they want to, they can just turn it on?1 Like they’re toying with us.
If any team should have an excuse to not be performing well, it’s the Tree right now (given their current sitch)
Stanford Dback grabbing grabbing at receiver just before catch on that third down. how is that not PI!?!?!! So tired of watching this horseshit from the refs. Am I the only one seeing the spots for OSU consistently being a half yard short of where the ball should be???!
Thought Baylor had two first downs as he coasted out of bounds, at the very least right at the sticks, and the sideline guy runs right to a yard short….I don’t think he even had a clue….JS needs to be challenging those more often!
Here we are with another Chance to win it! Pun is intended. This is a great opportunity for him with plenty of time to win the game. Needs to use his feet and move the chains.
Chance needs to chill. They can easily tie at least. He should’ve dove for more yardage there. Probably grab a first. With that and the play after probably save 30 sec.
Soon as Nolan started playing I was afraid of him trying to do too much and turn it over. That said he played a good game. Oregon state killed themselves in this one.
Yep and how many of those come down to the final minute. Oh well, that’s the way the ball bounces. Too bad too bc the fumble cost the beavers didn’t even get the shot to tie or win it. Could a, should a, would a.
I hope the fact they were within reach of every game this year builds confidence instead of destroying it. It was like they were unfamiliar with playing with the lead…which they were…
Yep, that’s why I said a minute or two b4 the fumble and I called it game over bc beavers bad luck. Nolan is a gamer though. His performance in just his second game was pretty impressive especially w/out Bradford and despite fumble.
Tibs gotta go. Got picked apart on slants all game long. No adjustments. Stayed 7-8 yds deep on the corners and they took that easy money every time. Tackling hasn’t improved. Gotta be an upgrade out there somewhere.
Worst D in the entire country year 1. OK, 1st year you get a pass. Move to 10th in conference. Think they’re 10th this year. Tackling is just as bad as when he got here. You have to admit some of the schemes this year have been pretty bad. Changing D Coordinator can’t move you too much further down the PAC…who as a conference is really bad this year and would be a great opportunity to move up the ladder but nah.
I don’t know enough to figure out why they are having a hard time creating tackles for loss and sacks this year. It was exciting to watch last year. I hate to say it, but Rashad has become ineffective. I think he’s injured or the weight he put on is not helping him.
It’s maybe both and schemes too. He seems to be used like a D-end this year and not a blitzing lb. It was more fun to watch with the tfl and sacks but most the problems they have this year are the same as last year. Bad tackling. 3rd and 4th down struggles. Pts allowed. In 3 years only 3 games allowing less than 20pts and 1 was cal poly.
Brings back memories of giant Stanford tight ends pushing OSU cornerbacks out of the way and catching the go ahead touchdown… Fun time, great seat, rooting for OSU is like a classic country song, sad yet has a hint of humor. I mean how much can we suffer lol
In general or in this instance? If your talking today’s artists, real country IMO is making a comeback… No ranking here but these are all great artists: Charley Crockett, Tyler Childers, Turnpike Troubadours, Cody Jinks, Ryan Bingham… It’s a good time to be a real country fan.
Those r good! I was just arguing that country isnt sad necessarily. I don’t like the stereotype because I think a lot is the most upbeat feel good you can find. Never heard of the turnpike troubadours. I listen to a lot of old school from before I was born. But you’re right there are some purists that are putting out some good stuff. Gems on vhs and country AF are good youtube channels that have lots of underground artists.
Have you ever heard unincorporated by ronnie hymes? Pretty much sums it up.
Lol nice try retard! Two entirely different programs that were inherited. You’re already here right after the loss. Lol. Mom let you stay up past your bedtime.
Swammi,
Smith inherited a dumpster fire and is making it competitive and moving in the right direction… whereas Sumlin took over winning program and they have regressed as seen by their 70-7 loss.. so while your correct on the records part you can see the difference.. one program asscending and the other not
Your correct about Sumlin taking over a 7-6 team.. what was OSU’s record when Smith took over?.. love how you forgot to mention that.. OSU was 1-11 the prior season 0-9 in the PAC 12.. their only win was a come from behind 35-32 win vs PORTLAND STATE
That’s what he has always done. Of course he was conspicuously absent after the beavers and Double J ran through and around that pathetic duck defense. He’s a duck fan that has been cast out by his own duck brethren. He’s got nowhere else to go so he obsesses over everything beavers….always has and always will…no doubt that he’s just a troll from the hole. Lol
Undoubtedly best “2 win” team in the country. Seriously this year has been so close to 5-1. I completely give the WSU game, although currently we would destroy them, but we lost that game. Beyond that, losing to Utah was a huge learning curve, uw was shitty ass spots, and Stanford was an ot game at worse.
Things happen in football, and we haven’t won’t those games, but this team is not going to lose next year. Teams will have to beat them. I think that is the best part of this season. Although record doesn’t indicate it, it’s a big step forward on a week to week basis
Did the hack announcers even discuss Bradford being out for the game? I think he still was third in the league with receptions going into this game and I didn’t hear them talk about him missing.
They mentioned the Stanford wide receivers being out, but yes shitty announcing can cut both ways. The weird thing was they mentioned Bradford at the beginning during Senior Day photos, but apparently, they had no clue that he did not suit up.
Nope just like last week when Baylor missed virtually the entire game no mention until late in the game. No mention of Bradford either but the announcers are just bad.
I am thinking about the impact of long term arratives. Programs like Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas, etc. still think they’re relevant despite evidence to the contrary (all of which is aided and abetted by media which assigns them more power than their records over the last several years+ suggest). OSU can’t seem to handle the fact that it could break its loser narrative and win any more than Nebraska can get over its relevance some 25 years ago and accept that they are losers. Its the same mindset, different perspective.
Smith and staff need to confer with Casey and Rueck in the off season, and come back next year with a winning record.
They just don’t have that ability yet. When they had the ball with the 21-16 lead they needed to ram it down Stanford’s throat and go up 12, but they pissed away the drive and gave the ball back.
I think it was closer to six. I was surprised they rushed for well over 200 yards, but it was spread out over many players. They should have scored more than 24 points for pushing 500 yards of offense. Too many stall outs around mid-field.
Got fucked in the beginning on a spot where it was too risky to go for it. But looked g9od driving then by their own hand with penalties.
.the worst part about not calling fair catches is that we end up with a penalty and start at the ten.
I’ve seen this game around 100 times as a Beaver fan. It’s like deja vu. The Beavs have this invisible force that reaches out and trips them up any time they’re about to pull away in games like this. I’m not sure if there’s another team out there that always has to overcome more obstacles to win. Maybe it’s just a lack of focus on fundamentals and discipline, but it feels like there’s more to it. Maybe it’s just Luck o’ the Beavs.
Losing 2 games and finishing with a winning season with a chance to play in the Pac-12 Championship game is a “terrible downward trend”? Bahahaha.. beav fans would give their left arm for a two loss trend. Ass clown
The Ducks will give one away every 4-5 years. Do you realize how hard it is to beat any team 3 times in a row? Let alone 10 out of the last 12? Or in Shaw’s case, 11 in a row? Probability would conclude that eventually a fluke win will happen for the beavos. Almost did tonight
Washington beat down? The Ducks have beaten the Huskies 12 out of the last 14 years I believe including the last 2. I don’t think your math is working for you
Oh is it the same team that comes back every year? No! Might need to ban this dipshit he can’t even form a coherent argument. It’s not even fun. He must have a doctorate from the sux.
Yes, Mariota wasn’t from Hawaii. Neither was his brother and many others being recruited and picked up by the Ducks. You really are a special kind of stupid aren’t you? Here is a somewhat recent list.
>> Matt Mariota (Saint Louis ’15) 6-2, 206, Jr, TE
>> Kaulana Apelu (Kamehameha ’15) 5-10, 204, Sr, LB
>> Isaac Slade-Matautia (Saint Louis ’17) 6-1, 209, Fr, LB
>> Peyton Yanagi (Saint Louis ’18) 5-9, 214, Fr, LS
>> Matt Christman (Punahou ’15) 6-2, 252, Jr, LB
>> Sione Kava (Kalani ’16) 6-6, 270, Jr, DL
>> Adam Stack (Kamehameha ’17) 6-2, 182, So, K
Wtf is your point. Name calling now? Wow! Mariota being from Hawaii doesn’t make all polys from Hawaii. I was adopted into an Hawaii family and live with 4 generations. They are very humble and hard working and think the duck are douchey to say the least. They have a different term for you guys tho that is racist so I wont say it. Way to dodge that you’re a racist lumping all polys together.
You should probably find a dictionary and look up the word racist. You seem to be terribly uneducated. Maybe should have gotten that GED after all eh? Go ahead and print here what the word means. Maybe it will help you understand it better
I just got on and found post after post from “Swammiturd”. Fairly pitiful and annoying. I guess that’s what he’s trying for. It’s a shame it takes a routine like this to bring him satisfaction. One can only hope he will grow up one day.
What’s really sad is that he didn’t exist in the thread until right when the loss was sealed. So this was his Saturday night. I feel kind of bad. He’s doing it out of hate because he doesn’t have anything else to look forward to. Depressing.
I’m not a fan of censorship, but he adds nothing to the conversation and is disrespectful many times. He would be a great candidate for the old ignore function.
Disrespectful vs truth. I am not concerned with your feelings when I post. If facts bother you, that’s your problem. If I am attacked, I attack back. Pretty simple. Feel free to repost anything I have posted that isn’t true
“Feel free to repost anything I have posted that isn’t true”
Cristobal is a winning coach. He went 9-19 in his first 28 games, and did that in arguably the worst league in FBS. That number seems familiar.
When Colorado ass fucks the ducks in Boulder does that mean they join the mile high club?
As previously stated, nobody cares about his previous job. He is a winning coach at Oregon which seems to be what you’re concerned with. You seem very angry, but as a beaver fan I can’t blame you. It must be miserable year after year
Well, you make it easy. Explain how your name isn’t disrespectful to a long-time poster here? And the first name you used was somewhat juvenile, to say the least.
It’s flattery to great Swammi. And in his case, not only an accurate description of him as a person, but also his personality, wit and general disposition. All, once again, very truthful. I’m not familiar with whatever first name you’re talking about
For a moment last night it felt like something was brewing and we “turned a page”…I was seeing crispness and urgency in the play. Then Da’ Beavs showed up.
Dooozle pointed out the sad reality of Beaverfandom: We’ve all seen this game 100 times before. Scrappy, gutty performance that is so close to a validation victory snatched away by 1000 cuts of mistakes, poor spots, sketchy refereeing, lack of tackling, missed opportunities to get turnovers, sliding 2 yds short of 1st down, running backwards after getting a 1st down, and the capstone is always the turnover at the end to seal the loss.
Charlie meet Lucy once again. Another lost year of close but not quite, what could have been and now JJ is gone to NFL.
The sad thing is the Beavs faced 4 -1st time/year starters and still couldn’t win those games. Any comfort regarding “everybody will be back” because of NCAA eligibility waivers is now empty since they have no real advantage if that applies to all teams. The advantage was continuity and league qbs all inexperienced this year and they wasted it.
I wonder if all those little things are the difference between 3 star guys we’re landing and the 4-star guys the schools eking out these victories over us are landing.
I didn’t see your comment Angry because I was composing the note just below, but you have posed the issue more economically. not enough 4 star guys. it’s that simple. Smith could win 10-11 games a year, Boise State style, with these guys, vs. Mtn. West competition.
Say what you will about stat monkeys. Broadly, the beavs FPI is 11th in conference and 63rd overall, and yet they’ve been competitive in every single game this year; the potential to have been 5-1 is there. They are clearly out-sizeed/strengthed/talented by bluer-blooded teams. Smart recruits are going to see that; they’re going to see the coaching continuity. Smith wins a few more recruiting battles in key positions (dl, cb, qb) and we’ll see more improvement, high 3 stars and better depth is the next phase. The aggression on 4th down has been working in part because of the stoutness of the defense in compressed field situations, 4th and short and red zone. Had the beavs sent it to OT last night I liked their chances. Again, smart recruits are going to see that.
One benefit of seeing it 100 times is you know what to expect. So losses like this don’t hurt as much as they used to. But I have to say, Smith’s teams have been competitive and fun to watch. They definitely have more fight, toughness, and determination than what we saw for many years before he took over.
Here’s my summary opinion six games in: This team is pretty well coached, especially on the offensive side of the ball. The team doesn’t give up (another sign of good coaching), which is why all of its games are competitive. The reason OSU doesn’t win more games than probabilities suggest should happen is because of episodic disparities in talent, which varies from unit to unit, game to game, but when they occur these disparities are steep. Let’s take a few example: OSU’s D LIne vs. Utah (which is very young); vs. UW’s offensive line, (which is very young); versus Stanford’s receivers (some of whom were back ups). IF (and that’s a capital IF) you have superior QB play, you can compensate for these deficiencies. But OSU doesn’t have superior QB play, it currently has mid range QB play, and, in my opinion, its had mid to low range QB play since Moore, Canfield, Moevo when we had upper 1/3 QB play. Mannion and Luton may be holding clip boards on Sundays but there were not game transforming QB’s who could compensate for deficiencies elsewhere on the team.
I would also add the reality of an accepted perception of the P12 offices and public at large that OSU is a bottom 4 team in the conference.
Each team has been cast into a predictable mold as if it is a never-ending story, easy for uneducated sportscasters to repeat without effort:
UO- fast and innovative
UW- disciplined and punishing on defense
Stanford- intelligent and physical
USC- flashy and athletic, 5 star talent
UCLA- underperforming for the talent level
WSU- gutty and physical, wide open offense
Utah- Physical and bruising without a lot of skill players
CU- Cute program that tries hard
Cal- Fiery coach who gets the most out of his team, no qb
UA- Undisciplined athletic team
ASU- Undisciplined athletic team prone to penalties
OSU- Outmatched athletically and lunch bucket effort
The silly part of this is how these simplistic narratives aren’t actually true, yet referees can be influenced to not call any penalties on Stanford for a full decade because they are somehow more intelligent and disciplined players, when they a re obviously pushing the boundaries. Same with the spot at UW game, ref may think no way that little OSU can actually be pushing these Huskies around like this, so bad spot. Or UO gets benefit of blatant off-sides no-calls due to their superior athleticism.
So there seems to be an accepted heirarchy of teams within the conference and any anomolies outside of this face more hurdles to succeed.
If USC, UW, UO are in close games early season match-ups, they get the benefit of all calls due to these constructs. Conversely, teams like OSU, Cal, UA, CU, WSU are faced with the opposite issues and must overcome the accepted narrative to succeed and have a great season. Over the course of 20 years watching Pac12 football, this is a pattern. Selected teams are annointed in preseason and must have great mental toughness and coaching to overcome these hidden obstacles. In high school conferences, there are schools that will always be the conference doormat and they have fairly accepted it, as the psychology of the community and student body, as well as faculty. But in a major conference university, this should not be the case. JS biggest challenge right now isn’t recruiting or scheme but overcomong the residual effects of 50 years of reinforced constructs that only Dennis Ericjkson could break free from and be successful. I hope JS is on the cusp of such an accomplishment, but I agree with wannabeav that the quick solution is a top tier qb who can raise everyone, ala Aaron Rodgers at Cal back in the day.
“JS biggest challenge right now isn’t recruiting or scheme but overcomong the residual effects of 50 years of reinforced constructs …” well said.
Smith says his team expects to be in every game, and to win every game. I think that’s important. One of his players said he “likes the underdog role.” I don’t like the way the underdog role gets overplayed; sure, someone is going to be favored for betting purposes, but the role tends to become this perception that the team doesn’t belong on the field with the other teams in the conference or DI, and Smith can’t accept that kind of thinking.
Overcoming those reinforced constructs is more likely if Smith acknowledges them and has strategies for them, which include unfortunately messaging. But I hope he gets the team beyond competitive, and where it has results on the field that can’t be denied. Someday maybe a “Harbaugh-goes-for-2-against-USC-Carrol-hey-coach-what’s-your-deal?!?” statement game.
Sounds like a lot of convenient excuses for just not being very good and having inadequate coaching and admin decisions. Until the win against a team made up of 75% freshman, every beav fan was complaining about the lack of in-game adjustments and poor fundamentals teaching by the coaches. Now they are complaining about narratives that oppress their program unfairly. Good grief it gets old
Nobody told the coaches to recruit kids that couldn’t make grades, or go after transfers that couldn’t make their last team. At some point, the coaches should have some accountability. The coach didn’t even back his team up after the bad UW spot for crap sakes.
You say OSU’s “veterans” beat a bunch of freshman. But when you look at the box score, oregon’s box is full of vets, outside of Shough(who has more experience than Gebbia) while oregon state’s is full of guys who have 2 seasons or less experience.
No, but but facts. Lol. This guy wouldn’t know football if it hit him in the face. How much you want to bet he didn’t even go to school there? Even though it’s the most shit degree in the pac.
Posting at 1:53 am? Wow, who has no life again? Lmao. I have two degrees thank you. Two more than you no doubt. Hey, let’s review…. last week it was Wyoming and Utah x2. This week it was Stanford, Oregon and the mighty Portland Pilots. Next week it will be ASU, Wash and whoever Stinkle plays. It never stops does it? Lmfao
One thing, I think I’m seeing is that the Beavs don’t quite have the speed on defense as the better teams or they are out of position a lot. Maybe that’s the difference between 3 or 4 stars? Teams constantly beat them to the edge. Hell, Mills with two bad knees didn’t have anyone close to him on his TD run!
Tough loss. Smith got saved by delay of game penalty at goal line when he went for it. Kicking FG was the right thing to do… tied game. D held Stanford to FG and O got in FG position until Nolan fumble. Nolan surprised. Played great game. On the fumble made the right play but Stanford made great play to seal the deal. That’s the difference… tree capitalized on their opps. When we had chances to recover fumble or intercept, we didn’t make the play. We’re getting better despite the record.
It was a tough loss, but everyone is forgetting the Cal win. I’m sure Cal fans were pretty pissed about an interception on the 7-yard line. It was the same type of scenario as last night. The frustration is that the Beavs have improved considerably over the past three years, but they are not good enough to blow anyone away or even to create separation in league games. This is the most parity I think I’ve ever seen in the P-12, not sure whether it’s good or bad? Probably has a lot to do with the COVID environment that we are in. I think next season will give us a benchmark for Smith’s abilities and if the program can take another step.
Sadly, it was the perfect year for the league/refs to play it straight up and watch a reshuffle of program trajectory happen. But no, they got greedy thinking CFP and here they are. After a year or two we could see superior coaching staffs push their programs up and inferior ones get canned. That’s the way back to the cfp, not preordained, chosen teams.
Nolan was night and day from last week. That 3rd and 1 on that last drive when he started to run then flicked that floater over the D was “neat”. Too bad Harrison stumbled on the play and dropped the ball. Haven’t seen that type of creativity from a Beav QB in a long time
If I remember correctly he didn’t even come close to throwing an interception. Even Luton was good for a couple of “should have been picked” per game. I think he was only sacked once and even then he was trying to run and just need to break one tackle for positive yards.
John Madden’s philosophy? If the ball touches any part of the receivers hands he should catch it! Of course, that was easy to say in the era of Stick Um!
It was a great idea but the pass was total shit. He threw it so harrison had to completely turn around from the way he was running and try to dive underneath the ball right before it hit the ground. Nolan even said it was a bad pass and he needs to be better. He said it was a probable td if he makes a better pass.
So they didn’t go straight across divisions? I guess trying not to be repetitive? Arizona St is a tough match up. I almost would have preferred a Utah rematch.
That’s a tough match up given ASU’s QB. If the players aren’t motivated, it could be an ugly blowout. They have to play for pride, as cliche as that sounds.
That technology in he NFL that shows the path a runner takes includes a chip in the middle of the ball. Based off that and orientation it should always be able to calculate the tip of the ball. Otherwise I am sure there is a way they could get a chip right near both tips of the ball if needed.
I counted atleast 13 spots last night where I was telling my family they gave the OSU player atleast 1/2 yard kess than he got. The average of these was over 2/3 of a yard and looked closer to 3/4 of a yard with many almost a full yard less.
On the contrary Stanford had to have had 8 or more spots where they got a full half yard more than they appeared to get. Did’t really ever see them lose more than a few inches all night on any spot. They had a couple where they appeared to get 3/4 and close to a full yard benefit.
If a computer analyzed this itvwould easily have picked up the anomalies of where the ball actually finished. They have the technology. It might need slight refinement or improvement, but what is an inch of error margin a computer chip to the often full yard difference Pac-12 refs all top often make? Beavs really were hurt by this and to help get over this perception issue they should be leading charge for using technology with no bias.
Even the couple plays where we had the clear first down or were very close like the one late near the goaline before the 4th and 2, the Beavs player were wrongly called for initiating backward running when all they did was twist their body and get pushed and hit back.
Bad spots have bothered many fans for years. Time to let the truth and facts be the deciding factor. Let the refs have a smart watch and the computer can tell them the closest 1/4 of a yard that the ball should be placed at. I’d say it could be rounded to closest 1/4 yard except for first downs, where chip has to say it was reached. Or you just always have to gain all 1/4 yards by the chip and it always rounds down.
But there are sp many lazy refs, who repeatedly and constantly say to themselves, I don’t think they playervquite got the first down at the 50, so ball gets placed at 49 when he was no more than an inch or two short. That is stupid and it happens all the time because of lazy refs who prefer the sticks and yardage be easier for their own ease when it ends up making real differences in games.
The funny thing about the ball spot tech that traces player path in NFL via ball position is that it is developed by Zebra. Talk about perfect branding. Refs are Zebras and this is just better reffing for ball spots when forward progress should be given. I think they could just place a chip on both tips and the one that gets furthest download on the direction team is going is obviously the one you use.
I think soccer goal line uses a camera down the line, so this is different. I have spoken with the makers and they said it is what does the ‘Next Gen Stats’ and path analysis as seen on NFL broadcasts. It measures everything like max speed, etc.
I agree this problem could be easily solved with technology. I don’t think there is any way refs can make these calls accurately within 1/2 yd. The problem is their line of sight. In most cases the ref is on the sideline behind or in front of where the ball carrier is stopped, downed, or out of bounds. The out of bounds situation gives refs the worst line of sight for the ref on that side of the field. Actually, the ref on the opposite side of the field has the better sight angle to make the spot judgment. In reality, multiple viewing angles are needed since the ball may not be visible to the ref closest to the ball. However, our refs go ahead and spot the ball even if they don’t see where the ball is, they’re just “guessing” where the ball is when the runner goes out if bounds. Home viewers can actually make a more accurate judgement on ball spotting because we have the benefit of multiple camera angles. That’s what’s so frustrating.
I definitely think refs have a bias based the history and narrative of a team. If they have to guess within +/- 1/2 yd of the line to gain, they’ll err on the – side for a team like the Beavs. Our players could remove this doubt by taking a more aggressive angle past the marker or staying in bounds and taking a hit to make sure they get the extra 1/2 yd.
Another issue is timing. Just because a ball was advanced to a certain marker, doesn’t mean it was advanced while the player was live. The ball placement at the point when the player is down or out of bounds is difficult to acertain without replay in many cases.
Getting a few things off my chest:
1-The discussion this morning here is an example of why I continue to visit AB. With a very few notable exceptions, you degenerates have some of the most astute observations and insights around.
2-Early Vegas odds say Beavs plus 7.5 vs ASU, factor in the weather and JS ability to keep the team engaged and I think that’s a good bet.
3-Sweaty Beav’s the man, came on strong halfway through the season and is running away with the pick’em!
4-Why all the questions about UofW being able to play next Friday? If their county doesn’t change quarantine calendar can’t they move out as Stanford did in that situation? They’ve got the $$
5-An early Merry Christmas to you all!
ADDED: 6-WBB Civil War today at 4pm on PAC12
7-FTD
That was one of those games that the ball just didn’t bounce the Beavs way literally. I didn’t see really any egregious mistakes by the coaching staff or players. Stanford just outplayed/outcoached them by just enough to win the game.
A disappointing loss for sure. No moral win here or many silver linings. A second step back in the program’s direction.
Agreed for most part….most of my beef is with the missed opportunities bY the defense. Just fall on the loose ball, don’t try to pick it up, and probably win. Saw at least three over pursues, pressures going right at QB at full speed and missing instead of slowing down and just making the tackle, or waiting a half second for help. Stanford has been smarter in that department for a while now — hell half their guys could be engineers or doctors.
Get two or three of those type of plays per game and Beavs add two or three wins easily.
At a certain point, you have to stop blaming the refs. Refs tip the margins one way or another, but if you actually have a good team, you don’t need that margin every single game. Luck is a fact of life in sports and close games will usually be determined by it. It sucks when you’re suffering through individual games, but it usually averages out over a large sample size. You can’t count on luck to win, though, because you don’t get large sample sizes in football. The only way OSU will get over the hump is by being good enough not to need it.
I know everyone flags 1998 as the turnaround year for the program, but 1999 was when we actually proved we could have a winning season. The average margin of conference victories that season was 20 points. Take away the UCLA blowout and it was still 10 points. We averaged at least two-score victories. Same thing in 2002 when we bounced back from the letdown in 2001: average margin of victory was 20 points.
Biased refs are just one of the disadvantages you have to accept as a program, similar to not having nice weather or big donors.
Agree. Got to be good enough to overcome the bias. Not there yet. Still frustrating when every spot for Stanford seems to be slightly more than where it should be and every spot for Beavs is short. Over the course of the game, that adds up. Usually when a player goes out near first down marker, the refs give benefit of doubt to offense… not so much with Beavs. It’s been consistent all year. When/if we become a better team, maybe we start to get those spots
I think it is less about blaming the refs than a normal subtle psychology of all involved that perceive the Beavs as not really likely or worthy to get the benefit of the doubt in situation after situation. Of course the goal is to become good enough to not be concerned with luck or the occasional missed call or poor spot. But the reality seems to be that the occasional mistake and missed spot is nearly the back breaker that Beavs cannot overcome in many instances, and the accumulation of such events piled on throughout a game or season only reinforce the lame narrative that OSU is a doormat program without much luck or talent. I say the challenge inside the locker-room today is to find, teach and coach guys who actually believe they are 15-20 points better than the other team at all times and then go carry themselves that way and play up to that mindset. Dennis Erickson found those guys and they played that way. Sadly, it was a flash in the pan within the long history of OSU football.
DE himself had the same attitude. He’d already been successful, so he had confidence in himself.
JS doesn’t have the same advantage, and I feel it often shows up in play calling, like trying to get too cute and catching the other team off guard when you’ve been dominating them with your bread and butter. It’s like they think “oh it probably won’t keep working, let’s just try to surprise them instead” instead of believing that the success is legitimate and repeatable.
Interestingly, the refs got that Stanford spot right on the apparent TD, but again it was handled correctly. Call TD first and then overturn on video if the evidence is there. Unlike, the Ducks game where Gebbia was clearly in the end zone, but they called short. Did anyone notice the lead official was almost “over clarifying” the calls last night and seemed oddly assertive. Almost, like he had been coached to do that given the mess that P-12 officiating has become.
I was happy with Nolan. He was as good if not better then Gebby this game. I do love the attitude and fight in this team and that is what is giving me hope for the future. I’ve said it a 100 times in the blog though that we need to start winning more games to turn the tide because so much depends on recruiting and let’s be real that a good recruit wants to go to a good – winning program.
Final comment: As a fan of PAC-12 football I am constantly frustrated by the many bad calls / spots by our refs. The PAC-12 needs to clean this up ASAP. Unfortunately it may not happen until Larry Boy is gone. I just hope the conference isn’t to badly damaged by Larry Boy before he is out.
I think blowouts/domination tend to happen when a team has at least an above-average defense. Turnovers are created, three and outs happen more frequently. Beaver’s defense is not close to that yet.
2nd half thoughts after watching the replay:
-Nolan played well. Huge difference compared to Utah. I didn’t see many incompletions due to bad throws; it seemed like mostly bad protection, good coverage, or Harrison’s drop. It feels good to be the one with the mobile QB for once.
-Baylor is good. Losing JJ will obviously suck, but the drop off is not that bad. We really need Madison or Newell to step up, though, because Tyler doesn’t seem to bring anything to the table.
-Horrible play calling when we settled for the field goal to get us to 24 points. We moved the ball well all the way down the field, then felt like we had to get cute for some reason instead of sticking with what worked. Seems like an example of low Beav self-esteem in action.
-I still have Choukair PTSD, but I also really appreciate that Hayes makes the kicks he’s supposed to make.
-The offense made the defense look good by giving Stanford poor starting field position. The defense is still below average and Tibesar needs to go. Good teams don’t spot the opponent 400 yards every single game.
-Why in the world would you put JJ on the return team?
Problem is, I don’t think that OSU can attract a better DC on a 600K salary.
The defensive scheme last night is probably as good as it can get with the talent on the squad, particularly with how little talent there is at the DT and DE positions. Two strip sacks and three dropped INT’s.
What the Beavs sorely need is everyone to return next year so that they can get to a bowl game. A bowl game gives the team an additional month of practice. Having that extra time with in-person coaching is critical for the program’s success.
The only thing that really stopped the offense was bad spots, penalties, and getting cute with the play calling. They had a chance to put the game away by just running it down their throats. The team was getting around 5or 6 yds a carry. They could’ve of worn them down and demoralized them but didn’t. The tripping penalty was bullshit.
No one said that. Work on your reading comprehension. There is nothing hysterical here either so you should probably work on your vocabulary as well. Lmao too easy.
“The only thing that stopped us was bad spots, penalties and play calling”. Your excuses were literally the 1st and 2nd things listed. It’s the refs fault. The beaver mantra year after year. Lmao. You really are dim
I haven’t researched, but did The Beavs create any turnovers in their losses this season? I know they didn’t yesterday and I think none against UW. That’s a huge factor. Bottom line is that they need a much better defense to improve the win column next season.
Fanny back in his usual form….abrasive, petulant and sophomoric. He’s about as predictable as the ducks football team…weak. no wonder he now uses “turd” as part of his new moniker. He’s the epitome of what it means to be a turd.
Do you remember laughing when I told you the pendulum is swinging? I do. Who’s laughing now? Maybe the old player/coach knows a thing or two about basketball. Despite your rhetoric otherwise. Lmao
So the ball spot tech mentioned was good to basically 6 inches back in 2015. Currently is placed behind NFL shield logo. The within 6 inch accuracy it basically gives you is close to the distance of middle of ball to each end, so I bet they could get it within 3 inches if on there was a chip on each end. There are 3 feet in a yard so they could also break down a yard in 1/3 units (each foot) instead of 1/4 units.
Either say you have to reach it per the precise measurement recorded to gain each and every foot or let the it round to closest for all downs except first downs and touchdowns.
If going the augmented route, to help decisions, give each Coach 3 spot challenges a game, like Hawkeye in tennis, and if the recorded spot says it was reached than that is the deciding factor for those challenged calls, and not “indisputable” which is kinda silly because what that exactly means even varies alot as different review booths see fit in all kinds of varying situations.
I feel pretty confident about our quarterbacks for next season…if Double J decides to return next year as well as other players given another year of eligility, this team will be very, very good and could contend forr the pac 12 champioship. We can already see major improvements on defense despite missing some key personnel. I’m very optimistic where things go from here. Hopefully, we are cleared to go to games next year. Looking forward to 2021.
Who do you guys think will actually come back? I can see offensive lineman coming back and maybe reichner since he opted out but I don’t think there a are many seniors that are worth keeping.
First!
35-31 Beavs!
Beaver strong….
Hopefully they at least put it on espn 2 or something until this BB game ends.
Ya anyone know if it got moved
I’ve been looking on the ticket at the bottom to see if it says it’s playing somewhere else but nothing so far.
It’s BS that we have these late games and they can’t even get it televised on time half of the time.
Absolute bullshit!
Go Beavs!
Any Ukranian threads ?
Who the fuck cares about Illinois and Missouri? Its not 1864….
Apparently the Cornhole championship is more important.
Thanks to Larry Scott, the media mogul………my ass!
he needs to be fired
On the coast this weekend—any links to stream the game?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VYOxLfOu3U
Thanks-I guess we won already…
I’m not a fan of Jefferson back there returning kicks…save him for the run game
Give one of the young guys a chance to make something happen. It’s not going to cost them any eligibility
Hopefully they told him to fair catch it every time.
If you go thru your cable provider–it’s on the espn “watch” tab
ESPN news.
It’s on espnews. Going for it on 4th and 1 near the 50.
yeah baby. 4th down Smith.
The last minute of this BBall game could be 20 minutes long!
Go Beavs!
On news dude
Don’t have it
Sorry. Td Beavs lindsay.
Man the fly sweep was way open too.
Off line got push there
Jermar makes it look easy. Not super fast, or super shifty, just fluid, patient, and natural instincts
Effing ESPNu has Missy basketball game going. Missing our game!
Well-called drive.
especially that 4th down call. :)
Great start oline and Jefferson look great. Nolan made a bad decision on one pass but was accurate and made a nice one on the TD.
TD Lindsey…and people were questioning my picking him as our deep threat this game.
Yeah yeah.
What a drive!
Nolan’s rating at 260.7 right now….just sayin…
Lol
If the offense continues to play like this and they can win the turnover game they win this.
Sounds like a good start! Pissed I missed it!
Go Beavs!
I missed it!
One of the announcers sounds like he’s talking through a drive thru speaker. Want fries with that?
Fuck yeah!
Missouri/Illinois…the game that never ends.
Standard first half beavers defense.
Yep
Did Chance look any better? How does Harrison look?
He had a good and a bad. No harrison yet.
According to ESPN Harrison caught the first ball for 12 yards.
Harrison caught the first pass of the game.
Mills with a christmas present for the OSU secondary…
Tackling hasn’t gotten any better. Smh
Seth Collins out of retirement?
Might be his oldest kid.
Lot of arm tackles!
Go Beavs!
Beavs playing two hand touch. Stanford did nothing Oregon State handed them that drive. Hopefully with the way the Beavs are moving the ball ribs can make adjustments.
That’s why u just call a fair catch.
Fuckin classic lindsay
Terrible spot
Another bull shit spot.
He was at the 25
Seriously?
Forward progress and then pushed back. Effing announcers don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground.
WTF they can’t get spot right again.
Dude! Don’t go backwards!
Go Beavs!
Forward progress.
Dumbass special teams play.
Forward progress should be there though!
Go Beavs!
Our refs need to be shot
Special teams is….not that good.
Beavs showing lack of IQ.
Nice spot. Usual PAC 12 call
That is so ridiculous! Clueless punt coverage there.
Go Beavs!
Fucking chainsaw.
Ha
Dumb special teams and shitty spots. The story of our season.
3rd and 16 need to get off the field
Nice penetration there!
Go Beavs!
That’s what she said. Lol
Great stop
Great force inside! Good play D!
Go Beavs!
Man the spot fucked us. Nice recovery by the D after a dumb special teams play.
Only radio here, sounds like Beavs D was strong to end the 1st qtr, nice to get a stop.
You can’t watch? :(
True……..bummer
Yes! 3rd and long is where we want ’em. Nice pursuit there.
Go Beavs!
Cheers to a great offensive series here!
Go Beavs!
It’s a fast start by Beavs standard if they can keep this up and play like they normally do in the second half I like our chances. Can’t afford any turnovers in this game.
Harrison!
Wow
Yeah baby!
Jubelale!
Boom!
Wow under-thrown! But good catch.
It’s a damn shame Harrison didnt get to play more of this season
Dude’s legit! Had to wait on that ball.
Harrison! 55 yards in the air? Nice.
Harrison learned the error of his ways from the Fortune Cookie coach…
Nice, Lindsey and Harrison were my top two WRs to enter this year…
Lindsey had his best game due to Bradford, Flemings, and Irish not playing. He doesn’t consistently get open and drops the ball. Jet sweep has been his only success. He hasn’t earned more PT. Your ego to never be wrong is and you spinning it is unbelievable.
Yeah because that makes sense. “His great game, that you called, didn’t count because some scrubs weren’t playing”…
I like the play calls
Quitoriano is a great blocking TE way better than togiai was.
Man!!! We had momentum there ugghh.
Go Beavs!
Yeah baby
Wow!
Oline looks great! Nolan looking confident and comfortable.
BIG JIM calls TD pass “PERFECT”
Beason and Harrison! Could be a scary combo next year!
Nice placement on that ball! Good catch ZB!
Go Beavs!
Give us a Beason to believe…
Wow, nicely called so well, and great to see the D play up to their potential in the first half….
Who’s this Nolan guy? He looks good.
Harrison is our best deep threat angry! Jk
I said earlier that I thought Nolan would be better and look more comfortable with Double J back and if the O line did their job.
Callan says Nolan went to each of the O-line to give a high five.
That’s a smart man! ;)
Nolan’s rating 290.5 now…just sayin’
(hey, it worked the first time)
Harrison changes everything.
He was my pick to replace Hodgins straight up.
Good hands so far. I’d like to see him meet the ball away from his body more but overall great performance.
So does JJ.
Well yeah, he forces the entire scheme to open up for the wideouts.
Special teams has been pretty special so far tonight.
3rd down!
Damn would’ve been the play of the year. Ahm
Can’t seem to guard the slant routes
3rd and 10! C’mon D
Nice work JG!! :)
Run Double J down their throat!
Nice stop d. Harrison is obviously great. Nolan looks much more relaxed and it helps having JJ back there. Which receivers will leave after this season since they won’t have to sit out? Beason and Harrison have those spots locked down for awhile.
Beavs vibe is different tonight. There’s something brewin’…
Another nice long td drive to to demoralize them.
Good drive here! Break their will!!
Go Beavs!
Good D. Those deep slants are hard to cover. Short slants you can slip a LB into the path but deep ones it’s all on the DB. Our DBs are better but still working on it.
THAT’S RARE
Hell of a play to the TE.
That play was horribly executed
Yikes!
Penalties killed us
Unforced errors! C’mon guys.
Go Beavs!
Just tuned in. Do we have a fast food drive through doing color commentary?
Man those penalties and then that spot is the only thing stopping the offense.
Also, how did we score twice?
OL just killed the drive with two bad penalties.
Lindsay td and beason td. Harrison had a 60yd catch too. Oline looks good aside from those penalties.
I hope that means Chance’s jitters are gone. Still doesn’t look comfortable in the pocket to me.
Two terrible calls. Tripping? Levengood when for a chop block. Didn’t raise his legs at all that I saw.
Didn’t our punter get knocked down?
Looked like the guy got pushed into him
Ok
PAC-12 Refs only makes calls against us… not for us!
We are our own worst enemy.
That 2nd down screen call was not good! Only when they are mounting pressure. Harrison should be in there on long distance. Get comeback and flood routes (intermediate). Screens are not going to work against a lack of pressure.
No penalty for mauling the punter.
Defense is getting put in bad spots so far.
Rashed sighting!
Good stop
I like that Roberts and Ham sandwich behind the line.
Good assignment football there
A Julian wrapped that back’s legs up there. Speights finished him off.
This game is there for them to take they just can’t keep shooting themselves in the foot.
Fourth and two on your own side of the field. You gotta go for that Stanford. Don’t you know the statistics???
Need to get points on this offensive drive.
Go Beavs!
Actually like the branding and helmets with logos for this ESPNU broadcast then those big game ones on ESPN where they constantly showed Kid Benny on every commercial. That was horrible for our image, but this looks good and feels as close to Erickson team branding and feel I have seen since.
Damn Quitoriano is a beast!
TQ might need to go to prison for that hit lol
Just killed that guy
His shoes didn’t come off so I think he’s alive for atleast 10 more minutes.
TQ with the offensive targeting
Take that everytime
Should’ve handed it off, though
Ya but he made the right read. He doesn’t get to look at the backside except presnap.
True
Anytime the defenders freeze or play inside leverage (like they did) QB should keep! I was talking about the play before with J2 getting 9 on 1st down though!
Go Beavs!
DB with a good tackles there.
Nolan’s likley to pass Gebbia when Gebbia returns…
With Gebbia missing spring it’s going to be a messy come fall.
Amazingly, it is looking that way.
It’s good to have competition!
USC beats UCLA, it’s them vs. Fuskies in the Pac=12 championship next week
Wow, that 4th quarter must have been absurd.
UCLA scored a field goal with about 55 seconds left to lead by one, USC kick return out to the 45 of UCLA. Then just kind of walked it in after that…
We need another 3rd and long!!!
turnover!!!
Nolan drives the field here. Just protect the ball tho.
Over a minute left to answer.
Plenty time.
I like Jaydon Grant…the kind of attitude and work ethic OSU needs.
He was my favorite db last year.
Good job seeing the uncovered receiver
Nevermind, that was a bad call
Nice run there, but pass pro is still really rough.
Man nice fuck up to ruin the drive classic OSU
That was the best scramble since Terry Baker that didn’t have a hurdle.
Yeah, he needs to work on that part of his game.
Why call timeout??? WTF?!
Why didn’t Smith challenge that (another) awful spot?
Can he not??? Is this pat casey forgetting he can challenge a terrible terrible call???
That’s when I wish OSU would take a snap under center….
Yeah, Beavs have looked solid all year on QB sneaks. One yard don’t fuck around. Poor execution again.
Like the pooch call there. Who’s the idiot that grabbed the ball early?
Pooch punt?
Nolan is not as good at punting as Luton or Gebbia.
Yeah he’s terrible! Take his ass outta there, right?
Go Beavs!
I am so tired of the bad spots. The refs just hate us by a yard on any close call.
Terrible spot
Yeah, it’s got to be one of the easier things to do.
Why would we call a time put there instead of letting time out?
Makes no sense
Mind game? Make the offsides more likely?
Oh jeezzzzzuuuuzzzz.
Oh good, he pooched.
Off his shin. Was that longer than lightbournes?
Holding all day
Glad they called it, bailed out that stupid 4th down timeout
Ya I think he probably wanted to think it over than to rush it but I hear ya.
Why does the offense get rewarded with an untimed down there. Seems a little backwards.
I missed the parts where we scored, but this team still looks like it’s stuck in neutral.
Got messy when you showed up… Suspicious
It’s like celtic pride you’re the bad luck guy!
Yeah do your part and stop watching.
Done. It’s too late here in EST.
First halftime lead of the season!
OSU plays to their competition. We can’t blowout inferior opponents yet. They should be up big. Bad spots, mental lapses and penalties are the only thing keeping stanford in this. It should be 24-10 bc dumbass should never miss a pat.
How would you consider Stanford an inferior opponent?.. they have beaten OSU 10 straight times!!!
This doesn’t look like the usual Stanford team
In this game they are clearly better. Everything has been self inflicted or bad spots. This team is not the same team as the last 4 seasons.
Stanford has some pretty big athletes…even at WR. Make OSU’s WRs look puny.
I wouldn’t call Stanford “inferior”! The Beavs had a good start and made some great plays. That doesn’t mean that they’re dominant.
Go Beavs!
Who said dominant? So far they’re clearly the better team are they not? Stanford is missing 4 starters. All that I’m saying is OSU should be up double digits but aren’t because of themselves not stanford.
Spot on ^^^^
Hard to understand the downvote.
There’s a few idiots on here that downvote everything I post ha ha. Very Middle school-esque. Oh well! The movie Idiocracy has some merit there I guess :)
WTF, no matter what you don’t call timeout and then pooch kick and give them the ball. That was stupid coaching!!!!
Sorry, I was watching the MLS Cup Final. Had to watch my only team that actually wins anything.
Thank you for beating Seattle.
So glad to see Seattle lose.
The play calling still seems very predictable.
Players are making plays, though.
They said Beavs shrunk the playbook for Nolan. So at least they’re executing (mostly) the few plays they practiced this week.
Second half adjustments.
CB blitz
So far they’ve mad him look uncomfortable and after the first drive the D looks better. Ribs seems to make good in game adjustments for the most part.
Nolan still needs to get rid of the ball more quickly when he does decide to throw.
The PAC has made the announcement, UofW vs USC in the championship next Friday. No mention of fallback plan should dawgs be too sick.
https://pac-12.com/article/2020/12/12/washington-face-usc-2020-pac-12-football-championship-game-presented-76

I got all excited when you said PAC-12 announcement… thought you were going to say they fired all their refs.
Or fired Larry Scott….
Don’t get too excited we’ve only seen one good half. Remember angry says 4 games I think that’s a decent sample size.
Julian looks hurt.
He got hurt on the tackle he made in the 2nd.
I know he was on kick coverage and looked hurt again. Probably best to sit him.
Isaac had his wheaties. Having a great game.
So to answer my own question, looks like we get old school Stanford :(
Great. Gave up a 1st down in 3rd and 9 to the checkdown man.
Wow grant right after you talk shit you allow a td. Wow!
And he got hurdled for the 1st down. I like Grant but not a good look there.
Dude was lined up 15 yards from the LOS and STILL got burned. Smh
Beavs’ D is the worry here
Always has been.
#2 is slow!
He was turned around looking at the ball as was Grant. Makes you run slower.
Oh that’s what happened there? Thanks.
Corners aren’t Supposed to look back until they see the receiver’s eye’s get big and hands go up, downfield. You don’t look back for the ball as you’re running up field with the receiver lol. Thanks though
Go Beavs!
Dude why are you always so defensive? Did I say it was ok? That’s why I said it because you’re not supposed to and that’s what screwed him. That doesn’t make him slow.
He didn’t say what he’s supposed to do, he just said what he did. Calm down.
Atleast it isnt a TE with 200 yards again.
Good halftime adjustments there beavers D! Tibs is trash
I don’t like the shift in momentum. This is where leadership is needed. Can Nolan do it? If not Nolan, who?
Statement drive. Pound it
Now I see why Gould hasn’t played.
Good gun to Gould there. Keep your feet in bounds
JJ is so sick
How do they spot him short of the 1st there? Ref was standing right over him and spotted him 1/2 yard short.
Pac 12
It’s becoming an epidemic. Seriously. I think they’re marking it where the knee touches instead of where the ball is. It’s driving me crazy.
No need to be cute. Run it down their throats and demoralize them.
Every fucking time!
Jesus! WTF on the spot! C’mon!!
Shit jefferson
Not a good sign
Nice, effective use of Crazy Legs Colletto
Tyjon! Wow
Great throw you. Let’s hope Double J is good to go. We need a turnover by Stanford now.
Nice deep shot on the offsides. Beavs rarely take advantage of those and it pays off
On the TD BIG JIM again describes the pass as……..PERFECT!
Lindsay finds his hands, holy shits
Lindsay (even the #1) reminds me of the younger Victor Bolden. Can’t make anyone miss but good straightline speed!
Yeah he def avoids contact
The beauty was that Bolden was great his senior year. He learned how to “one cut” and go!
Nice ball!
Man, this Nolan guy is terrible!
I called it earlier today.
Nice Lindsey…fuck.
Now you see my bullish Lindsey/Harrison call on Hank’s blog.
Nolan’s rating is 208.9….just sayin’…
2 out of 3, 3 tds…18 net yards rushing…
OH goes to bed and the offense is fire again. We found our problem guys!
Someone on D needs to make a big play. Wright or Grant with a bounce back play. Almost right there as I’m typing.
Wright on the cb blitz haha.
You’re a wizard harry
Lol. Touchdown Beavs!
Damn, Wright with another drop int.
Now you see why he didn’t play WR
Lol. He’s snagged a few though. These last 2 drops were too easy I guess.
Is he eating buttered fucking popcorn on the sideline?!? He has gloves!?!?
Gotta stick to the smart pop
DUDE!
Who called for a cb blitz?!?
The game where Oregon ran it however many times straight. Let’s do that.
It’s Colletto, Colletto, Colletto!
We’re seeing an OSU team force multiple three and outs and punts….I’m going to get a little misty….
I think crazy legs is realizing he gained 25 lbs.
He was trucking on that last one.
Yeah the cb was not ready for a MLB to run through his face.
Ah harrison’s first drop.
Bradford out?
Yes
I feel a Smith 4th downer coming on
Wow. Colletto made a good play there.
Go Beavs!
That has to be caught! C’mon man!
Hmm, that could’ve been a late hit.
Bad series! That 2nd down play screwed us!
Need to switch field position. Or we could get that turnover I was talking about NASHON!
I like 28! He puts his nose in there often
Roberts down. Bad. Colletto is back up. It is it Doug?
Doug!
Horrible spot
well, generous spot on that forward progress..
Where is Bennett or Rawls tonight
I believe Rawls just got to the qb. Play him more.
Bennett has been switching out with hodgins. Haven’t noticed Rawls.
Damn
How is oladapo for a story?
Dude is leading the team in sacks I think. He has no hesitation on the blitz
And he doesn’t miss the qb when he gets there.
he gets home. for a decade we’ve had guys who run into blocks/can’t find the seam.
Need a turnovers
Had two chances with strip
Sacks.
D starting to get worked
Defense is doing a lot of bending…
Sky C3 on that last run! Should have been stopped earliier
#1 with the flail tackle…
Little Wright. Not sure why he is in this series.
Two Wrights make a wrong.
Rezjohn
That was over running the QB there! That is Pass rush lane integrity being breached. Guys….break down your feet
Need to make the plays when they’re there. So many bad angles and missed tackles. They’ve been close and I think they’re due for a turnover.
Stanford D grabbing receivers and no call on that third down. WTF!!!
Roberts out is hurting us
Not coming back tonight, “forearm injury”.
2 missed tackles on Mills…so close…
Nutrachopper
15 minutes….5 points….looks good.
Maintain pass rush integrity. Their Qb ducks under quite a bit
Damn nice play
Ouch!
Why the hell are we playing 8 yds off the receivers all game long?
radio says Roberts out for the game; forearm injury
We just got clowned by a qb with 2 kneebraces. Lol.
Why does stanford get away with so much offensive pi
the size of their receivers
That is incidental contact man
They act like “boxing out” is a ok or a football technique. That’s offensive PI to hold the defensive player from the ball. Same as pushing off.
Sure can’t tell which team the announcers are rooting for can you?
I see a bunch of guys tryyto do to much and do other people’s job on defense. Then what do you know they get burned on misdirection or a pa fake. This team lacks discipline.
Tibs needs to go.
OSU hasn’t quit in fourth, let’s hope they don’t here.
What I don’t like is that Stanford just seems to “try” and everything happens for them. So whenever they want to, they can just turn it on?1 Like they’re toying with us.
If any team should have an excuse to not be performing well, it’s the Tree right now (given their current sitch)
they are a patient team
That’;s not good at all!
Trick play terr.
Great, Double J out now too?
Bad pre snap read
Baylor on 3rd and 8……….25 yds, good call
Nice Baylor….usually OSU suffers that kind of gash
Finally utilizing Hor. stretch play :)
go for it, Smith
Go for it!
If you go for it run the ball. Bad spot number 12,469 of the season. Not even a review.
Delay of game……why didn’t JS get a TO called?
and….why shotgun?
Ya I was happy he got the one in the first half. Pretty disappointed on this one but the play looked shit. Whatever that’s worth.
What about Colletto….they haven’t stopped him yet.
Wow!
Good heads up #21
Bad coaching decision there
The FG? It was the right decision.
Here’s where you have to watch out for an 8 minute Stanford drive putting the game away.
Looked to me like the ball came out before he was down – he controlled it prior to fumble – and it should have been on the 1…
Forward progress was stopped
This team could be really good with some discipline and fine tuning.
WE NEED TURNOVER NOW!
Great. Here’s the problemo! Stanford can easily burn 7 min to drive and score (as we have seen). Need a turnover or HUGE 3rd down stop!
Tied at 24, Angry had it 24-21 Beavs…
Time for an INT on this drive or a sack/fumble recovery….so close earlier
Stanford Dback grabbing grabbing at receiver just before catch on that third down. how is that not PI!?!?!! So tired of watching this horseshit from the refs. Am I the only one seeing the spots for OSU consistently being a half yard short of where the ball should be???!
Saw that too…so obvious.
You are not the only one. Everyone watching the game can see it.
Thought Baylor had two first downs as he coasted out of bounds, at the very least right at the sticks, and the sideline guy runs right to a yard short….I don’t think he even had a clue….JS needs to be challenging those more often!
Wow. Gave up a other slant.
So many missed opportunities by the defense too. Should have at least two turnovers.
It looks like the D is wearing down.
Earn your money Tibs.
Are you kidding
Luck o da beavs
Efff me to tears. What a grab.
Luck o the Beavs right there.
OMG
tick, tock
Game. Stanford has been on the road for 2 weeks straight. Ouch.
Game over guys.
Let them score?
That chainsaw needs to stfu.
Toner is is gold here.
Back to back years losing to the kicker at the end.
Yep.
But not against nike. Conspiracy?
Chance here for Nolan to make a name for himself.
Yep
He did. It’s called FumbleNolan. Similar to FumbleNall and FumbleJefferson
JJ with ankle sprain wants back in, do ya put him in with 2 min to go?………Not me!
Maybe on a PA play for distraction.
Baylor is running hard. Stick with BJ.
Here we are with another Chance to win it! Pun is intended. This is a great opportunity for him with plenty of time to win the game. Needs to use his feet and move the chains.
Well another late game and another game where you gotta watch the entire thing.
Here we go boys!
“So you’re telling me we got a Chance.”
Damn. There have been a few questionable calls (Beavs) in this game! If they lose, IMO, it’s on the coaches.
Go Beavs!
for a confident team (like SC, for example) 1:48 would be tons of time.
Especially with all 3 TO’s available.
Swammi is a Debbie downer eh?
Just being real. Beavers have horrible luck, i.e husky game ring a bell?
He’s a turd. He’s not a beaver fan
Penalty right off the bat too. Never say die!
Spots are Horseshit!
Agreed
Chance needs to chill. They can easily tie at least. He should’ve dove for more yardage there. Probably grab a first. With that and the play after probably save 30 sec.
That was a 7 yard gain by Chance. He gets 5?! Fuck off
It’s where the slide starts.
Fuck..
Colletto
Whew
Gotta get a big chunk here.
Wait.
The clock is being managed?
Come on you need two yards
Read option
Nice call!
Fuck…there you go….knee down
Lmao
Please, please, please
Game
OMG maybe!!!!???
Fuck…knre down
It was out. Like I said, snake bitten. Too bad, Great effort by chance dosmy missed opportunities.
Soon as Nolan started playing I was afraid of him trying to do too much and turn it over. That said he played a good game. Oregon state killed themselves in this one.
Right knee down
Edit: We can’t close games
No.. it was right call.. looked like ball was just coming lose as his knee hit ground
It was close with his right knee but with the call on the field it wasn’t gonna get reversed. It was confirmed so it must of been clear.
another crushing defeat at home vs. these guys. amazing.
Like I said, beavers have horrible luck.
Good God, how many one score games have we played with Stanford over the last decade? And they have won every single one. Just brutal.
Yep and how many of those come down to the final minute. Oh well, that’s the way the ball bounces. Too bad too bc the fumble cost the beavers didn’t even get the shot to tie or win it. Could a, should a, would a.
Fuck. Players were competitive, left some TOs on and sacks on the field. SU has a more experienced QB, bigger players…damn.
11 straight years of losing to Stanford.
11 years.
Shaw is undefeated against the beav
I thought when it was Second and 2 they should have put Colletto in there…high probability of first down.
You knew they’d do something to lose it.
Dude this is the best the d has been in years.. give him a break
Yep. Too bad Avery Roberts couldn’t finish the game.
Too bad Gumbs and Morris were out, and Whittley.
Cue the excuses
I thought OSU looked small in comparison to Stanford in some match ups, Stanford had some big WRs.
At least we have tall cornerbacks today lol… Stanford always has big guys but this was another winnable game we let get away.
What country are you listening too?
OSU had chances to recover 2 fumbles and didnt get one.. the only 1 OSU fumbled all game Stanford was able to hop on
That and a dropped INT by Wright. Make the play!
Forgot about the dropped INT..that was on the same drive as the first fumble
That would’ve been a tough pick. It was such a bad throw and he was watching the receiver.
And one pick too.
Heartbreaking loss because literally the ball didn’t fall the Beavs way.
Exactly. The fumble by Stanford QB Mills and we’re all over it but can’t get it. A prelude of things to come I suppose.
11 straight to Tree.
Kevin Sumlin fired for being 9-20 after 3 years
Lil John 9-21 after 3 years and he’s the town hero
Lol nice try retard! Two entirely different programs that were inherited. You’re already here right after the loss. Lol. Mom let you stay up past your bedtime.
Is he not 9-21? Was Sumlin not 9-20. Those are facts. I know it bothers you to hear facts but it’s true
R they two different programs? Is that a fact? I know it bothers you to hear facts!
If they weren’t, there would be two Oregon States or two Arizona’s. Are you new?
Hahahaha. That’s your response? Thanks for proving the point I’m talking to a retard. Ima? good tonight. Next time champ. Lol
Swammi,
Smith inherited a dumpster fire and is making it competitive and moving in the right direction… whereas Sumlin took over winning program and they have regressed as seen by their 70-7 loss.. so while your correct on the records part you can see the difference.. one program asscending and the other not
They were 7-6 and 5-4 in conference the year before Sumlin took over. He didn’t exactly inherit a conference championship team
https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/30479408/oregon-quickly-goes-cfp-hopeful-spot-bottom-10
What does this loss have to do with Oregon? Another losing year by smith is frustrating. What a shitty way to end it. Fumbled away. Again
Story of your mom’s life.
Your correct about Sumlin taking over a 7-6 team.. what was OSU’s record when Smith took over?.. love how you forgot to mention that.. OSU was 1-11 the prior season 0-9 in the PAC 12.. their only win was a come from behind 35-32 win vs PORTLAND STATE
So how many more years does he get? When do they pull that trigger? 2024?
Why do you care. Don’t have much of a personal life? Shocker!
Lol
Best 2-win team in the nation.
Ugh
Every team has players missing
Apparently, sub-text is beyond your comprehension BeavBlows. Good announcers would discuss a key component of a team’s offense being out for the game.
No. They haven’t all year
Stanford without 4 starters. No mention
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mercurynews.com/2020/12/10/stanford-loses-more-players-but-not-because-of-covid-19-issues/amp/
Lol. This tard looked up a link.
They mentioned the Stanford wide receivers being out, but yes shitty announcing can cut both ways. The weird thing was they mentioned Bradford at the beginning during Senior Day photos, but apparently, they had no clue that he did not suit up.
Wow that was profound.
I find that people that insist on using the R word, even when angry, essentially define themselves don’t they?
People that use I at the beginning of a sentence are if lower intelligence. Fact!
“Are if lower intelligence”. Classic
Classic last ditch effort using autocorrect as defamatory. Dude just stop. Were laughing our asses off over here. And got ur up fool. Hahah
Did autocorrect forget your apostrophe in “were”? Lmao. Don’t turn that Mensa application in yet
Yes absolutely. Lol
Nope just like last week when Baylor missed virtually the entire game no mention until late in the game. No mention of Bradford either but the announcers are just bad.
OSU is always going to get hack announcers until they win and get in a decent bowl, even then it will likely be unsatisfying .
Need to learn how to play with and extend a lead. They don’t know anything other than scrapping right now. They need to learn to step in the throat.
They just don’t have that ability yet. When they had the ball with the 21-16 lead they needed to ram it down Stanford’s throat and go up 12, but they pissed away the drive and gave the ball back.
They do just have to literally run it 4 straight times if needed. What was the average yards per carry? Probably about 5.
It’s coaching. 9-21 to be exact. Stinkle has the same issue
So does Cristobal. He’s in a terrible downward trend. Good for you it wasn’t a full season and you got out of that washington beat down.
Losing 2 games and finishing with a winning season with a chance to play in the Pac-12 Championship game is a “terrible downward trend”? Bahahaha.. beav fans would give their left arm for a two loss trend. Ass clown
We gave our left arm to see the Beavs beat the Ducks and it happened!
Ha just exposed yourself as an sux fan. Dumbass
Deflect much? They say dux with small peckers do that.
I did? You said I’m a “sux” fan not me. Whatever that is
Washington beat down? The Ducks have beaten the Huskies 12 out of the last 14 years I believe including the last 2. I don’t think your math is working for you
Oh is it the same team that comes back every year? No! Might need to ban this dipshit he can’t even form a coherent argument. It’s not even fun. He must have a doctorate from the sux.
That would be one more degree than you have “were”
Like I said last ditch effort. You’re very popular at the bar here in Maui. Your own fans are laughing at you.
Stanford fans in Maui? Sweet!
More so that the sux fans are a running joke out here.
I’m sure that’s why they get all those 4 star Poly guys right? Willful ignorance is a choice boy
That aren’t from Hawaii. That’s some racist shit lumping all polys together. Talk about ignorance.
Must be why Mariota played in the Polynesian Bowl
So disappointing…. And if the women lose tomorrow we’ll have a hat trick weekend.
You called it. Blow out. Mark Campbell strikes again
Tried to tell people the pendulum has swung
So who do The Beavs play next week? Is it going to be fucking Utah again? I guess it would be a nice test of JS and the staff’s coaching abilities.
Hope not that would be just stupid. So you can count on it! Says larry scott
I’m just looking at 4th vs. 4th place if it’s going to be that simple.
I’d like to see a healthy jj and more prepared Nolan vs Utah again. Revenge game! Or asu.
I’m not familiar with whatever first name you’re talking about
Yet he already acknowledged and answered to the name earlier. Not to mention the ISP address
Any news on injuries?
OhioBeav’s trenchant analysis may be the most cogent post on this blog ever (and not because he agreed with me about QB play).
Coached good enough to beat the ducks. Suck it!
Yes. You beat a bunch of freshman, with a team of veterans. As you should. But it only happened by 3 on your home field. That should bother you
As you would say BeavBlows, all teams play freshmen, just like “all teams have injuries”.
So I guess we can count on wins as long as you have those shitty freshman. Lol
Team full of veterans?
Team has 12 seniors, half of them havent played this yr due to injury or not cracking the depth chart.
https://fishduck.com/2020/11/oregon-football-ducks-the-best-youngest-team-in-america/.
You say OSU’s “veterans” beat a bunch of freshman. But when you look at the box score, oregon’s box is full of vets, outside of Shough(who has more experience than Gebbia) while oregon state’s is full of guys who have 2 seasons or less experience.
https://www.espn.com/college-football/boxscore?gameId=401249418
I was impressed with Nolan especially after his first game. Kid has some potential
Maybe not since Matt Moore flipped a shovel pass against USC, just as he was being tackled?
Harrison “should” have caught that. I know its easy to say, but he’s a receiver, he had his hands on it, has to make the play.
Also next week is ASU @ 7:30 of course
So they didn’t go straight across divisions? I guess trying not to be repetitive? Arizona St is a tough match up. I almost would have preferred a Utah rematch.
Should be a fun game to watch, but not much on the line. Wonder how motivated the players will be?
That’s a tough match up given ASU’s QB. If the players aren’t motivated, it could be an ugly blowout. They have to play for pride, as cliche as that sounds.
Seems odd that it’s also at home. 5 out of 7 games this season will be at Reser. I’m guessing the Beavs will end up as 4-6 point underdogs.
I was trying to figure out if COVID has anything to do with it, but I’m not sure why it would. Oregon still ranks near the bottom for cases.
So….just the tip?
The funny thing about the ball spot tech that traces player path in NFL via ball position is that it is developed by Zebra. Talk about perfect branding. Refs are Zebras and this is just better reffing for ball spots when forward progress should be given. I think they could just place a chip on both tips and the one that gets furthest download on the direction team is going is obviously the one you use.
Makes sense. The entire unit deserves attention
But the tip is the most important area
I’d like BeavGopher’s opinion on this.
Is this similar to soccer technology and verifying that the ball crossed the line completely for it to be a goal?
Patrick Mahomes just took a 30 yard sack. Gotta wonder if he’s a Beav fan.
Probably not. He seems to enjoy winning.
Yup, despite him throwing two picks and a 30-yard sack, the Chiefs are ahead at halftime.
7-FTD
Stanford is different. Their rules were about practicing and playing games, not quarantine rules.
I noticed! I shouted at the screen a couple times at him, thinking this looks and smells really fucking pre-meditated.
Yeah, it struck me as odd. I noticed his microphone was perfect throughout the night.
Beat asu last year. Let’s do it again. They crushed a terrible team. Can we beat em??
They’ve been really hot and cold under Herm, so there’s always a chance.
I’ve heard for years that defenses win championships. I agree with you and this saying.
Not this year. The bowl game is like a week or two of extra practice.
So it’s was the refs fault. Hysterical but predictable
Corn-cob!!!
Play calling? Quit cherry picking. Your mom made mac n cheese and its delicious. You can have the leftovers while I plow that out
You’re a strange little dude. Sound like you’re around 22 as well. No wonder you’re so emotional
Deflecting. Lol
I haven’t researched, but did The Beavs create any turnovers in their losses this season? I know they didn’t yesterday and I think none against UW. That’s a huge factor. Bottom line is that they need a much better defense to improve the win column next season.
Yeah, three opportunities for a turnover yesterday but couldn’t finish any of them.
And the same player who dropped possible INT vs Stanford dropped a potential INT in the Utah game last week.
I remember at least 1 INT in the Endzone vs WSU
That was Lucy pulling away the football again last night. Another game that should have been a W.
Agree. Now we want two paragraphs from you on your thoughts on ball spotting technology as requested by Angry above.
It’ll be the same as the glowing hockey puck
Hoping everyone comes back next year. The program relies on mentors for player development, and there are true leaders on this squad.
Lmao
Why don’t you two homos take your love affair back to wherever you came from. You’re both equal parts useless and annoying.
If going the augmented route, to help decisions, give each Coach 3 spot challenges a game, like Hawkeye in tennis, and if the recorded spot says it was reached than that is the deciding factor for those challenged calls, and not “indisputable” which is kinda silly because what that exactly means even varies alot as different review booths see fit in all kinds of varying situations.
https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/11/29/nfl-football-location-tracking-chips-zebra-sports-rfid
Ball spotting accurate to 6 inches? Coincidence? I think not.
Two hands is for beginners.
Goforth went backwards
