What I saw in interviews is that the Beavs were sniffing their own farts all week and enjoying the scent. Smith seemed aware of this. So what plays out?

Originally I thought 31-17 in a game they control but don’t dominate. Now I’m thinking psychology and ego come into play. Smith can try to coach that out of players, but it’s human nature, and therefore can’t be eliminated completely.

Also, I think the Beavs will have to pass more in this game, so I’m going with Nolan, Lindsey, and Harrison as the players to watch tonight. Morris has never impressed me as a QB, and given the Beavs D is getting more pressure, I think they force him into a few key mistakes.

Beavs are the better team, but fart sniffing keeps it close.

  1. I’m in the stadium, about 30 min to game time. About 5% full except the student section which is very full.
Lota of time to go of course, but i decided to come in early to avoid lines.
Also, be smart and screenshot your digital tix before coming to a game. The cell service is terrible, here and it takes several minutes between clicks to bring the ticket site up. Idiotic process if they dont have wifi or decent cell service.

  2. 38-17.

Morris throws 2 ints. Nolan has a clean game and we run for 250+. 2+ sacks. We give up 300 through the air. Musgrave has his first big game.

  3. I think my latest Tweet sums up the Ducks. Watch Canzano steal it tomorrow.

Why the Ducks always choke: they try to out-athlete teams and out-facility teams. This is simply a shortcut to doing things the right way. Trying to skip the hardest steps of team building and instilling fundamentals.

          • It looked like from the replay that there were about 4 penalties down the final stretch of regulation including 2 personal foul penalties which looked like the right call. There was a PI penalty that was a lil ticky tacky.

          • Thanks. Will try to find the OT and watch it. Really concerned about the refs. They seem worse than ever, and they’re really going to mess up someone’s season at this rate.

          • “If Rob Mullens isn’t on the horn at this very minute to George Kliavkoff about this bullshit officiating crew, he’s not worth his salt.”

“There has to be some sort of repercussions against the officiating team right? The poor officiating likely changed the outcome of the game, there has to be some suspensions or something of the like”

“I’ve never been this angry after a loss. I hate when fans blame refs, but I can’t think of any explanation other than the refs wanted ‘Furd to win.”

  4. 6pm and we’re at maybe 15% capacity, if I’m being generous.
Except students section which is packed shoulder to shoulder, so that’a what you’ll see on tv

  5. 35-21 Beavs. Physical game. UW won’t be able to handle our run game and Nolan makes the throws he needs to to keep the defense honest. Beavs get 2 picks tonight. Go Beavs!

  6. The defense looks slow tonight and not as motivated to play. Hope they pull their head out of their butts and start playing. Offense better come up with an answer to their TD.

Also, UW is a faster team on offense than our DB’s. We can be physical with WR’s, but can’t match their speed.

      • I don’t mean there won’t be long sustaining drives at this rate. Need to help our defense and a pulling TE running into the QB reminds me of a time my buddy in HS had our head coach tell him an OL Guard to slow down to let the QB get to the handoff. Exact same issue on that play.

      • They were saying the flag was on Nolan stepping out of bounds before throwing the ball, not Lindsay (although he stepped out too).
I don’t get football rules. How is the QB stepping out of bounds or not not a reviewable play.

      • no, it’s because the refs blew the play dead as Nolan released the pass and called Nolan out of bounds. Nolan leaped out of bounds but his feet hadn’t touched the ground. It’s similar to calling a player out of bounds when he leaps to pull the ball back into the field of play like on a punt out of the endzone or a fumble popped up out of bounds. It was reviewable, but not in the aspect of what Smith wanted to have reviewed.

That’s an extremely difficult recovery by Wright. Jeez. That’s where a legit 3-star (makes that play) matters vs an ordinary 3-star (doesn’t make that play).

  8. Nice to see them not panic.

Nolan is going to have to relax and play better though.

It will be good for them to have a tough win. Builds character….

  9. Exactly what I called for. That’s got to be very demoralizing for them and great for the offenses confidence. If D can get another quick three and out Washington might give up.

  10. I love a well executed counter so much. Defense absolutely hosed trying to stop our power run game and bj has half the field.

    • I love this run identity. reminds me of Jim Harbough Stanford team of power running mixed with efficient passing. honestly as a former Olineman, I enjoyed run blocking a hell of a lot more than pass blocking. easier to know you can run over the guy in front of you every play.

  11. Physical running by Baylor and Fenwick. Credit the tight ends for setting the edge.

Beavs got punched in the nose but now they’re delivering haymakers.

  12. Another example of why wrapping up when tackling is so important. How many years have we been asking for players to wrap up and not go for the big hit? Julian’s tackle is a prime example of a big hit while wrapping up.

  13. Morris has never impressed me as a QB, and given the Beavs D is getting more pressure, I think they force him into a few key mistakes.

    There’s #1

  14. Why did we go away from running the ball? I understand establishing the pass, but the pass should compliment our running game.

  15. Terrible execution by the punt return team. You have to block or tackle him and then at least fall on the ball and not let it roll 15 yards.

    • I agree, our execution is not as sharp as it could be, but this game was going to be a wake up game for the Beavs to not sleep on an opponent. Also, don’t play down to your opponent.

  16. Someone seriously took a sign to this game that says, “We want Bama!”?!?!?! Angry is right that fans are sniffing farts. I just want UCLA in the Pac-12 Championship at this point. lol

  17. Tale of the first half:
    Tripped leaving a WR open.
TE runs into QB stalling drive
    Missed FG
    Dropped pass stopping drive.
Muffed snap on punt and cant capitalize.
    Poor decision on int.

Need to clean it up in the 2and half. This staff has shown they’ve been good at half time adjustments. If they’re running effectively only pass when necessary.

  18. 127 yds at the half. Yikes. Let’s get creative on running the ball. Passing game looks bad all the way around. Nolan not sharp. WRs dropping balls. If anything you’d think the play action would be very successful but I think you stick with the run until they prove they can stop it.

I’d take what he says with a grain of salt, he’ll swear that there’s no more than 10k in the stadium, and oh yah everyone is throwing Nazi salutes too.

  19. What’s going on with The Beav receivers not getting separation? Is it the play calling or is the Huskie secondary that good? On a couple of those plays, I felt Nolan was too patient and should have just tucked and ran with it.

  20. Chance looks a bit rattled. He is forcing throws.

I would go back to attacking the perimeter via the run coming out of half. The interior run game is getting blown up at times by their DTs, but we need to establish play action.

  21. Nolan should run on half his dropbacks. Usually not a fan of the qb leaving too early but I think it’s been wide open compared to what’s there in the passing game. Plus its demoralizing.

  22. My guess is they were concerned about Nolan getting hurt by a cheap shot in 1st half and he was under directions to avoid scrambling for yardage.
Halftime adjustment will be designed rpo for Nolan to run. Probably some fly sweep, just no more turnovers and they will control the game.

  23. Even the announcers don’t understand why they’re passing the ball. Nolan hasn’t looked much better than Noyer tonight.

  24. Played into their hand with the playcalling. I don’t mind the max protection on the first play to go for the throat and then Nolan just ran it but after needed to go back to the run and then run some more.

  25. Nolan took off a little too early there it’s better to let the receivers scramble and make the DBs make a decision to take the QB or receiver. 3 points tho.

  26. That would be huge if 91 is done for the game. Don’t want him seriously injured, just enough to sit the remainder of the game.

  27. Really need to keep the passing to minimum. Why not move the pocket some and let Nolan roll out and put the pressure on the d to run?

91 went out and we pass? That was the one guy stuffing the run.

  28. What a terrible effort. 2 sacks and then I saw guys celebrating after and thought it’s not over you fuckers. Sure enough just made them look pathetic from there after.

Lindgren better start calling it better. In his defense the passing game is terrible and they’re beginning to stop the run. If 91 is out they should be able to run tho.

  29. Is it not you can push but not carry? Wtf!?

Nolan and lindgren are being exposed at this point. It’s not too late to go back to the run game. Haven’t fooled them with the play action yet where Nolan has made his bread and butter.

  30. Looking like USC was an anomaly. Why the fuck does Lingren do this a few time a year? Why the he’ll don’t we run the ball? He not a fan of 5+ yards per play? Defense looked great for a bit but now the usual suspects are back. Can’t tackle. 3rd and long. Tibs apparently had never seen the wild cat before which is surprising since our offense has ran it for years. Too bad. Had an opportunity to make a statement tonight, well a positive one anyway.

  31. C’mon guys this team has showed they can come back and never give up. At least you could do the same when it was a one possession game. Now let’s go!

  32. Do we not have a student body left or right to counter those slants? If they want to go one way or the other just take them on a trip.

    • Nm that was good there. Basically a PAT. Hayes missed one tho but protect it and it should be automatic but were the Beavs.

  33. 1
    2

Fuck, this is Riley type over thinking. The defense is jacked up. Score and boot out the back of the end zone and hope you hold them. If not you go to OT.

  34. I’m glad it worked but fuck. If Hayes was Serna in his later years I’d be alright with it. Hayes isn’t proven yet. He just missed one tonight. Ugh.

  35. Scratch Ticket Smith and Swarmin’ Tibs finally get it done…..with a little late help from Lindgren.
Let’s hope this gets the attention of every player, way too close.

Anyone feel bush league that we are storming the field for beating a 2-2 team at home??? Don’t mind me I’m just shirtless in my driveway honking the horn.

  37. My game over comment completely nullifies my 20-17 prediction.

First win against UW since 2011. They’ve humiliated us since. God, it feels good.

  38. Beavs end up w/240+ rush yards, TOP advantage, TOs even out…and the win.

UW gets to go into bye heartbroken.

I won’t be surprised if UW beats UO.

  39. 14

I’m calling all the chicken littles that said the game was over after the last touchdown. This team has shown great resiliency and people panic way too soon. Trust them and this staff.

For those who said a tough game can be a teacher. I think and hope you’re right. This game could

Glad Smith listened to me on Twitter and got out of his own way. I notice since he’s stopped making errors, we’ve stopped losing games.

    • I’m just glad the snap was clean because many teams in that situation would attempt the field goal on 3rd down because if the snap is fucked up you have another down to try again. Smith went for FG or OT by running out the clock. Kicking on 3rd down would have left UW with about 30 seconds, maybe that was even too much time for Smith to give to UW?

  41. This was in my eyes as big a game if not more then USC win. Great job Beavs. It wasn’t pretty but a win is a win. Let go! Roses baby!

  42. 5

    Some thoughts…

Game MVP for me is Baylor. 2 TDS, 100+ yard game. That 1-2 punch of Baylor and Femwick is lethal.

The interior run game looked dead for most of the second half because No 91 and 94 were wrecking the O-like. But we made the adjustment to put Colletto in at FB and run I-form. That additional blocker was crucial. Lindgren won us (and almost cost us) the game.

Nolan struggled. I sort of expected it; Washington had a huge advantage in their secondary. He’ll come back down to earth and get better from this experience.

Tackling is improving, but it’s still hit or miss. Feels like we need Jones and Hodgins back to take the next step. We simply get too tired on long drives and need those extra bodies.

Team took the next step towards competing for a division title. Celebrate tonight, and then focus on Wazzu. It’ll be another tough matchup.

    • Nolan had no one open tonight. The passes he did make the defender was all over our receiver or our receiver didn’t catch it. I thought Nolan actually wasn’t as bad as it might have looked. He went through progressions and ran when it served best. Washington might be the best pass coverage team we face this year. Nolan hopefully will shake this one off and move on.

  43. 12

Tough game for Nolan, but that throw to Gould was clutch. Was able to move the chains with his feet a few times when they needed it. Too many drops by the WR’s, no rhythm tonight. UW’s secondary is pretty good so gotta give them some credit. Musgrave….

    • The D is making plays this year…in bunches…then giving them up…then making them. Almost like they’re young people playing a game….

They’re starting to get TFLs again, TOs for the first time in a while…getting to the QB or close…definite progress. If the consistency would come it’d be a lot easier on fans!

      • Can’t remember the four basics which Tibs preached when he first arrived but I AM sure one was takeaways and another was tackling/gang tackling. It’s taken time but he is getting there.
The emphasis on turnovers was being pushed especially hard this spring, Blue teaching DB’s to block on an interception retuen…I’ve seen some of that in games.
So, anyone lookin’ for tix on the Tibs train now?

Not yet?…….no problem, lots of season left.

        • 1
          1

3rd and 18. Tibs is awful on 3rd and long other than that he is serviceable. Rushing 3 and playing soft coverage on that play swung all the momentum and almost cost us the game.

          • What do you think of the delayed blitzes? They seem close, and sometimes, like tonight, impact the QB and end up in a INT.

OSU held UW to 318 net total yards and 24 points and got a couple of TOs. In the modern context, that’s pretty good. Better tackling would certainly help.

On that third and 18, wrapping and driving would have prevented a first. i hate it when D players just think they can run into a player.

          • It looked like the Beav could have taken a slightly different angle and just shoved him out of bounds using his momentum and hands instead of that weird half-block or whatever that attempted tackle was. Not to be picky, but that almost cost them the game.

  44. Oline have been the guarantee week in and week out MVP. Washington adjusted and they did the same and sealed the game.i bet Eldridge is tired from 91. He was a load.

  45. 10
    1

That adjustment to add Colletto at FB at the end was huge. He was blowing huge holes and they had no answer. I honestly might nominate Colletto as offensive MVP – he absolutely transformed those last two critical drives.

Colletto man – he just does everything well. Before long he’ll be a full time starter on both sides of the ball.

  46. 9
    3

Colleto: Tacklin’ interceptin’ LB. Wildcat runnin’ & TD scorin’ QB, blocking FB….all on one scholarship. That’s ROI.

I like it that Gould can come in late, “cold,” and could execute when it counts. OSU has a number of players that don’t get a lot of consistent touches, and Smith/Lindgren’s ability to put them in and have success reminds me of what Petersen used to do at BSU where some role players might get one to two designed calls a game, and they’d deliver. At least against the Beavers. Also nice seeing WR Tongue taking out people on ST.

With regards to RBs, Riley never was able to use multiple backs well. And Andersen was, well, Andersen. I love seeing this team run the ball with more than one back, and the diverse run plays designed for the WRs. I’d like to see Gould lined up behind a FB and get the pitch and use his speed. A request: sneak Lowe or Baylor in at FB with Fenwich at TB and give them the hand off for a quick burst up the middle off a quick count.

Storming the field: good for them. Have fun, you’re college students. And OSU didn’t just break a losing streak against UW, they took first place in the PAC 12 N for the first time ever.

This is an entertaining team to watch in terms of style and lack of quit.

And, this team is clearly getting attractive to legitimate 3* and 4* recruits. That’s all you need if well-coached. RB Martinez is psyched about coming to OSU, starting early…Collins in the fold already…need to keep it going with the lines.

This program is also building leaders and mentors. Boise State and Iowa do this; USC and Oregon don’t. We have something promising to build off of.

  47. Just. got back from the game and was surprised by the loud crowd. They didn’t announce the attendance but I’m guessing it was between 30-33k and hot pretty loud in the 4th quarter. The game ball should go to the defense especially after the offense’s anemic performance notwithstanding the beavers.0teo drives in the 4th quarter.. I noted earlier in the game that Nolan’s passes didn’t have the usual zip and wondered if he was having a shoulder issue. He just looked off and they really never let him throw long except one play as I recall. I thought the beavers defense was tough and really kept the game close so hard off to that effort. I also think this win really sets up. their remaining schedule quite nicely. Every game is certainly winnable and their confidence has to be sky high given they won’t and didn’t look overly good in doing so. Good teams find ways to win even when they’re not playing at an optimal level. I’ll recheck my prediction but I think I had the beavers winning 28-24 as I posted yesterday. Great win and go beavs!

    • BTW, I did mention that OSU 226 yards per game rushing #1 compared to Washington #10 against the rush would be the key. Beavers had what 250 on the ground. When you own the LOS you usually win

        • Someone challenged the comments about the rushing yards and said the huskies rushing defensive ranking was exaggerated due to the Michigan game so not everybody in here agreed with the Rushng game stats if that’s what you’re referring to?

  48. 1
    1

I’m not sure how many tackles Colleto has, but his stat line through 5 games is pretty impressive.

    X Tackles, 1 Int, 1 TFL, 14 carries, 4 TDs, (how many first downs?!?) X blocks…

He’s should really be in consideration for POW honors at some point.

  49. Pac 12 website has “highlgihts” which includes showing the Bynum TD, then in slow mo, then showing it again at full speed.

On UW’s first wildcat TD, OSU’s Grant just pushed him, didn’t try to wrap up. On the second wildcat rush TD, UW lineman grabbed him and carried him into the endzone while a Beaver had him in a leg hold trap that likely would have stopped him.

  50. “Surprised UO lost? You shouldn’t be.”

This article gets some things right:

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/pac12/2021/10/02/oregon-loses-control-playoff-destiny-but-shouldnt-surprise/5974736001/

I think its funny they suggest UO doesn’t have enough talent, after all the recruiting rankings.

“For as well as Mario Cristobal has recruited, there’s not enough talent across the board to show up without full focus and enthusiasm. The running game has to dominate or the offense is going to stall. The defense at less than full strength isn’t good enough to stop even average offenses.”

    This is off though:

“A manageable schedule in the rest of the regular season awaits. The biggest test comes Oct. 23 when UCLA heads to Eugene in a game that could be a preview of the Pac-12 title game. Two wins against the Bruins would certainly change the outlook for Oregon come December given how unpredictable this season has been.”

The biggest test comes when OSU comes to town.

And by the end of the season, that Ohio State win won’t look so impressive. Ohio State has a nice win over Minnesota (sorry BeaverGopher) then wins over Tulsa (1-4), Akron (1-4), and Rutgers (3-2).

Plus, UCLA has lost to Fresno and ASU, so even a win over them won’t mean as much as might have been expected.

A OSU Pac Championship victory over UCLA would be sweet. With OSU ending streaks (USC, UW, likely WSU), it’d be nice to be the Chipster.

  51. According to Nick Daschel from the Oregonian there were 33,733 people at the game. As someone who was one of those people that seems spot on. Reser was rocking tonight and the students (9,500+) played a huge part in it. Loved every bit of it.

    • Agreed as I was there two and I estimated between 30-33k as I posted earlier. I thought it was a very good crowd and loud too but it’s the last time I pay $81 to sit in the endzone. I went thinking I could find a scalped ticket but didn’t see anyone selling outside stadium. Any recommendations for where to buy cheaper tix?

  52. 3
    5

Got home a little while ago and decided to read through the thread. Most of you bailed after that Nolan fumble, haha.
Game atmosphere was good, I thought the students really showed up and were loud. I actually thought that 2nd quarter sing along with Miley Cyrus Party in the USA worked pretty well as far as setting a fun atmosphere in the stadium. Not sure if any of that made it on tv, but it was just before it got dark and quite a fee fans had their cell phone flashlights on which gave the stadium a cool look.
Aside from the student seats, I’d estimate the paid attendamce was around 50% or slightly less. But we were loud enough to make a small difference and if the Beavs keep winning, I can see the potential for the game day atmosphere only improving. Today was a good start at least.
They really need to fix the entrance process at the gates. It isnt the covid checks that slow things down, it’s the terrible cell service and having everything digital. It happened again at half time when fans were trying to re-enter.
Fix that, and they’ll have a pretty good game ecperience going.

I’ll explain the stupid nazi salute thing later. I may even have a photo for evidence

      • Yeah, I have no idea what he’s referring to. They did the beaver clap thing similar to the gators but I did not see anything resembling a Nazi salute. Are you a conspiracy guy too?

Urban Meyer turns out to be just another predator pedo. These coaches seem more and more to be revealing their hand that they just get into the game so they can get into young girls. Pedo access.

I guess above wasn’t the best time to comment on Hadley Heck.

    Post game thoughts:

It’s really awesome that we have 3 very reliable tacklers again. Alton, Avery and Omar are nails.

We saw Chance against a very good secondary when his pass catchers weren’t helping. He didn’t crumple and kept working. He’s a good qb and his guys need to catch the ball for him.

Colleto is a beast. I’m starting to think he has a decent NFL career just due to his incredible usefulness. I could see him getting on a practice team and ending up all over as a mr fix it for someone. Also his additional size is really fun to watch now. He’s gone from Crazy Legs to a punisher. His blocking was even great.

    • Seemed like your boys Lindsey and Musgrave partied before the game as they reverted back to 2020 drops and inconsistent play. Lindsey should not start as he is not always reliable but can be a stud.

  56. 2
    7

Did you watch the D*ck game? That same officiating crew that fucked-up the USC game royally fucked up the UO/Stanford game. There were at least 5 huge questionable calls against the d*cks — that booted two players for targeting including Thibidouex there best player. Stanford’s final drive had 4 questionable calls against the d*cks, Stanford had one targeting call reversed in OT, when it was clearly elbows to the head . In OT Stanford had a clear false start where three of their linemen stood up and the red grabbed his flag but never through it. Their interpretation of PI and holding on DBs/CBs is baffling and very inconsistent. None of the 50/50 calls went the d*cks way.
Bottom line is, that crew is just plain awful, and heavily influences games — someone might want to figure who they are, if Beavs get them again, it could lead to another USC shot show — I hope they get reported to the league office.

      • The targeting call against T was a good call. Direct contact with his head. Duck fans whined all game long as did Jerry Allen and Mike Jorgensen. Bad calls are a common occurrence with pac12 officials so good teams must adjust and be,able to handle adversity. The defensive hold in the endzone was also the correct call leading to the untimed play and tying score. Ducks have benefitted multiple times over the years on questionablr calls too. There were some bad calls against the beavers last night too but they overcame them and actually won despite some of those calls but very few flags were thrown so it was a relatively clean game.
