“Found this gem on the blitz forums.”

I know we have a lot of new folks, so let’s get this much straight…ReplyIf it wasn’t obvious, posting content from the Lodge and/or Blitz subscription content on other sites will get you blacklisted from reading the Lodge and reading subscription content. Some of you doing so aren’t even smart enough to use different user ID’s…  We’ll always have the cheesy weasels that steal content and pass it off as “I’m hearing…” (and then even dumber people eat it up believing that person has sources, but the reality is that all they know is what they get from reading/stealing from Blitz). But some of you are shockingly stupid. If it’s an “innocent mistake” and you had no concept of respecting intellectual property… eh, ok. But, it seems some of you are just a-holes that dwell in the lowest realms of the internet think that you got a free trial, and that means you can roll in for free, and just post all that you read here on other sites and act like “oooh, lookey, I have this to share with you my fellow know-nothing troglodytes”.And, again… wow, some of you are stunningly stupid in terms of how easy it is to track you.My advice, when you find your account blacklisted, don’t send Angie an e-mail asking what happened.  If you’ve been posting content from the Lodge and/or subscription articles on other sites, you’ll know why you were banned.

I know some people here don’t find this interesting. That’s fine. This thread can be a continuum of general discussion. But I care about it a lot, as someone who produces quality content for free. I highly recommend watching this video, which explains better than I can, benefits of open content. Skip to 10 minute mark if you’re impatient.

Regarding what we can do. As I mentioned, I might implement a small area at the top of the page that tracks recruiting news. Users can insert news into it as they find it on Twitter. It might be 5 minutes after Blitz, but maybe not, as Blitz stole information from this site and from Twitter. That’s the ultimate irony of all this — they also take video from Hudl and youtube and put it behind a pay wall.

  1. I posted on the general thread about this subject, to reiterate…

I’m no lawyer, but wouldn’t “intellectual property” imply that someone there (at Blitz) created something, original? What exactly is that? Repeating rumors? I guess, if the words were taken verbatim. But considering a lot/most of the information there is taken from the interwebs, wouldn’t that make mama the thief?

    • I don’t know. Let’s respect their wishes, though, and just make our own recruiting area. We can all wait 5 minutes to hear it break on twitter, right? That’s all that keeps blitz in business. 5 minutes of impatience.

For those of you who twitter a lot and follow players, identify yourselves and I’ll give you access to post updates on the front page in real time once I design something. Maybe a little applet or matinee type thing up top with scrolling news.

I’ve decided to flip my commitment over to Oregon State, want to thank everyone who supported me through this decision. #GoBeavs

  3. “Overprotecting intellectual property is as harmful as underprotecting it. Creativity is impossible without a rich public domain. Nothing today, likely nothing since we tamed fire, is genuinely new: Culture, like science and technology, grows by accretion, each new creator building on the works of those who came before. Overprotection stifles the very creative forces it’s supposed to nurture.”
-Alex Kozinski, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

  4. Email me any information Machado steals from Twitter, ABs, and other sources. I want to keep tabs. We need to make a post about it once we accumulate a big list. It’s sad.

What is worst of all is she doesn’t pay her sources. She exploits them for information, then puts what they say behind a pay wall.

    • Maybe it’s just me but I don’t see this as a big deal still. Her sources know who she is and who they will give the information to. It’s not exploitation at all… Nor fascism as you claimed earlier.

It’s obviously not about tweets. Blitz people retweet and share that kind of info openly on their twitters. Not sure where this idea is coming from.

Just sounds like people here are rabble rousing…

Never even seen them talk about this site, all the comments in that thread were about PO.

    • I got scolded a few years ago for linking some info and as of 2015 they link everything, Hudl vids included, and you get a very unprofessional rant from an admin. Don’t get it – no consistency and to your point they certainly don’t produce all of their own content.

      • Fascinating video….of course “Color Him Father” was a huge hit for The Winstons….who knew the B side would become so famous. I agree with the presenters premise, but I think James Brown won some lawsuits when the “borrowing” became too blatant.

    • I didn’t get to listen to much of it, but will find the podcast link later when it’s up and add it here. From what I did get to listen to, he didn’t sound anything like he did on that Utah radio interview a week ago. Much more focused on the plan (process). i’m guessing in that utah interview he was being very careful about what he talked about and didn’t want to piss off the natives since he just ditched them.

    • I actually think his comments were mostly pointed towards PO users. I read through his rant this morning and he later mentioned some PO users were commenting something along the lines of “why would I subscribe to Blitz when I can get the same info for free on PO”

It looks like Mama has come in and killed that thread this afternoon and put up some disclaimer about “What happens in the lodge, stays in the lodge” regarding people copying and pasting their garbage on other sites.

I wonder if they refund users when they get banned from that site? or do they pocket the money and cut them off?

      • The ranter/admin in question thinks he’s hot shit and no wonder, folks cower to him including some of the other admins. Too much ass kissing and “thanks for all you do” for stuff that’s pretty basic. I’ve really lost a lot of respect for that site and have much more respect for what Angry provides us. Thanks again Angry (no brown nosing implied, genuine gratitude).

  5. I’ll be getting all twitter happy as @OSDSNation . I’m not as quick as some of the others but I’ll continually scour the interwebs for content for ya, while also doing my own blogging and such for Oregon State. (link will be provided) and I’ll make an account here for future use.

Thanks for everything you do Angry.

The Man formerly known as Beavocalypse.

  6. I can’t read blitz. But I see now it says “deleted thread”. Mamma Machado took it down? At least she realized how embarrassing it was.

  7. Not sure if this is a legit rumor? Thought we had this position filled by Guinta?

Josh Webb (Twist) ?@FightOnTwist 3m3 minutes ago
Staffing news for #OregonState. they’ve managed to poach Darrick Yray from #FresnoState. Yray is Beavs’ new Director of Player Personnel

  8. I don’t understand these threads. Why do you or anybody that comes here care what the people at Blitz are doing? Spending a single second focusing on another site is a waste of your time.

    • I agree totally. I dont see an issue. Yes, you can get kicked off a site like Blitz, but that’s life. As to their claim of “intellectual property”, …. lol…. forget it. Rumors posted on an internet site?? Try to argue that in court…

But one has to expect that sites like Blitz that try to make money by subscriptions will bitch and moan on and on when such info gets reported on other sites. Even if one IS reposting their info, no grounds for legal action. Might be if one is cutting and pasting…

News is news. It has sources. Posting news doesnt mean that same news cant be had by someone else, from that same or other source. Blitz is pissing into the wind

  9. So, Sitake is saying “he won’t recruit the players from Utah” but then we flip one of their recruits?

So, we are recruiting the players from Utah it’s just not Sitake trying to pull them away? :P

  10. Also maybe a dumb question but what does a “Director of Player Personnel” do day-to-day, and specifically what to do with recruiting? Just wondering why would he be following so many potential recruits on twitter.

    • I’m guessing they do alot of the recruiting leg work for the coaches, helping to keep them organized and connected with players, etc.

Looking at Yarks recent follows, I see a couple of interesting names:

Daishon Neal, current Nebraska commit. Visiting the Ducks soon. Wonder if he’s a poach target?
Matt Snyder, former Beav commit poached by Nebraska after Riley left. Andersen did mention that he’s going to go hard after certain former Beav commits who de-committed after Riley left. Also mentioned the TE position being very important to Baldwin’s offense, so makes sense.

  11. Several of our coaches (Lockette, Baldwin, McGiven) just started following Paul Lucas. He’s already visited OSU, but gave his verbal to ASU shortly after Riley left. Has had a home visit with Brennan. Apparently they must not think he’s solid with ASU. Love the aggressiveness this staff is using in recruiting.

  12. Utah is absolutely running the Buffs out of the gym tonight. They’ve been on fire in the 2nd half. 54-31 with 11:44 left

  13. Dang, I step away for a few hours and the site has now turned into musicalbeavs. Sounds like most of us grew up in pretty much the same era.

For the old punkers out there, does anybody remember a band caled the drunk injuns? I used to listen to them and old suicidal tendencies way back in the day. Fun stuff

  14. You know what’s a great record. Slayer, Rein in Blood. I don’t like much metal/thrash, but that record is really good. I think everyone should check that record out. It is shockingly awesome.

    • Dude Reign in Blood changed everything. It’s easy to look back and pick shit apart but in 1986 that shit was flat out mind blowing.

Master of Puppets and Among the Living were equally awesome at the time.

South of Heaven was really good too. First CD I ever bought. Still have it.

      • Pretty much the only metal records I like are Reign in Blood, Master of Puppets, and Kill em All. I like a lot of hard rock/punk, but those three would probably be the only records I like that qualify as metal/thrash. When I tell friends they should check out that Slayer record they think I’m joking. But it’s no joke, it’s great.

          • I used to work at a record/cd store back in the day. One of the perks was free concert tickets if you knew the right music reps. Saw Pantera/WhiteZombie in Portland with back stage passes to meet the bands. Dimebag was every bit as cool as advertised. Talked to every fan amd really seemed like he appreciated their support. Vinnie was cool too. Phil couldnt be bothered to even show up. Same with Rob Zombie

          • I dug the first 2 White Zombie records. I remember how weird it was when “Mother” hit for Danzig in 93 when that was off his first album that came out in 87. Never really did figure that one out. But the good thing is he went on a tour to support it and he had some band no one had ever heard of opening called White Zombie.

On that subject, the first 2 Danzig records were great too.

          • Totally agree. First CD I ever purchased was Danzig II-Lucifuge (still one of my favorite rock albums). 2nd CD was South of Heaven. 3rd was Danzig I. A few years later, mother hits and it all goes to crap…..(some would argue it’s all crap)

I’m guessing you’re talking about White Zombie’s Sexorcisto and Astro Creep? Really liked both of those. they actually had 2 earlier ones called Soul Crusher and Make them Die Slowly that I happened to come across while working at the music store. Neither one is really worth your time though.
I still have my ticket stubs from most of those old concerts. Pretty sure I have the Danzig/WhiteZombie one from the Roseland Theater if memory serves.
Also saw Zombie/Melvins at the Armory in 95. Still one of my favorite rock shows I’ve been to.

Favorite ticket stub is probably the backstage pass from Gwar at the Roseland circa 1995/1996. Still stained pink after all these years

          • I have a stack of ticket stubs around here somewhere too. Still have the shirt I got at that Circle Jerks show I went to in 87.

Found my Willamette Sports Center skateboard team shirts a while back too. Being sponsored (even by the local shop) in the 80s was a pretty cool thing.

          • Twist of Cain is the first song I ever learned on guitar. Great riff.

That band should have dissolved after the original lineup left.

          • You’re all gonna laugh for this. First three cassette tapes I ever owned?

            Michael Jackson – Thriller
            Bryan Adams – Reckless
            Gensis – Invisible Touch

You can’t blame me. Early 80’s and I had yet to discover rock. Although I still like Bryan Adams and Genesis/Phil Collins. In the air tonight is still a great song. I have a broad taste. Or crap taste. You pick…….

          • Ha, don’t worry. first tape here was Europe-The Final Countdown.
Although, I think I did ok with my 2nd which was ZZ Top-Deguello. still dig that album

          • I gotta wait until laundry is done. I can’t exactly go out in public with my dong hanging out. well, I could but I don’t need to spend the rest of the day at the Benton County gray bar hotel

          • Lol.

I had this one friend…we’d play Nintendo/bases loaded every day, and listen to Bryan Adams greatest hits and/or Journey’s greatest hits. Every day for an entire summer.

          • No idea how that post wound up way up here. Fat little fingers again. Ah yes, Europe. Never did get much into their music. The end of the whole hair band era was pathetic. It seemed all you had to do was have long hair and know how to scream or play an instrument remotely just a little. It became so watered down it had to end. Don’t get me wrong, there were some really good bands but there was also some really shitty ones. Then Nirvana came along. Never was a big Nirvana fan. A few songs I liked but most of it I thought was garbage. And Kurt KaBang, I mean Cobain was another egotistical loser who thought very highly of himsefl. STP on the other hand, I loved. Core and Purple were awesome CD’s. Then Scott Weiland went out of control with heroin and their music was crap. Shocking. Can’t believe he’s still alive while Layne Staley is dead

          • Cool, thanks for the link. i’ll be listening to this while I work today

doesn’t look like they ever actually released this on CD though. seems like a huge missed opportunity. Alice in chains unplugged is great

          • Do what I do. Download a youtube to mp3 or mp4 converter. Then you’ll own it and can put it on whatever listening device you own. Google either one and you’ll come up with something for free that works

          • Saw STP twice. AS mentioned in 93 at salem armory and again in 95 at civic auditorium in Portland. Meatpuppets opened for them in 95. Both times STP was great

          • Ha, you just reminded me that I’ve seen STP once live. It was really awkward. They “headlined” at the Tattoo the Earth show in Portland years ago. Check out this lineup and tell which band doesn’t fit:

            Slayer
            Slipknot
            STP
            Mudvayne
            Sepultura
            Sevendust
            Coal Chamber
            Hatebreed
            Nashville Pussy
            (HED) PE
            and several others.

It was a full day of metal bands, then STP comes up to close the show and Scott Weiland is wearing a lacy gloves and silver eye shadow. They were so out of place, I thought there was going to be a riot. This was during the Weiland heroin days and STP was garbage that day.

          • My buddies and I used to use the STP CD as a makeshift ice scraper. lolol. When we got freezing rain we’d always joke, “Time to Weiland!”

          • yeah after the purple album most of their stuff was garbage. Layne Staley admitted he wrote his best stuff while on heroin. In fact IIRC, the song Would? by Alice in Chains was about heroin although I think Jerry Cantrell wrote the lyrics to that one. Scott Weiland, not so much

          • Well… Thriller is one of the bet albums ever.

My parents had a ton of vinyl, so I mostly listened to their stuff until my tenth b-day. Then I got a little record player for my room and a Jimi compilation titled Voodoo Chile and some money.

So I went to the record store, looked through the vinyl bins and bought four albums–Ella in Berlin, The Further Adventures of Jimmy and Wes, Vincebus Eruptum and There Goes Rhymin Simon.

I don’t know quite what happened to my parents’ music tastes after that. A couple years later, I got a boom baox and two cassettes–Vangelis (CoF) and the Manhattans (which was supposed to be the Manhattan Transfer but thankfully was not. I don’t know what my first cassette was. I did buy a bunch of blanks and record a ton off vinyl. I think the first might have been Men at Work’s Cargo.

  15. Just about blew chunks. Walked into my personal office at work and at the top of the mail pile is SI with a Duck on the cover. Please let the SI jinx work it’s magic.

    • I’ve had to stay off espn and the local news lately. Really sick of hearing about mariota. I just don’t give two shits about the ducks and can’t stand tOSU either so I’ll probably skip the game

    • Does this mean angry will have to write an apology for the OSU rape post?

Unlike Rolling Stone, Fugazi would actually grant an interview here.

  16. totally off topic but Whiskey ripped the crotch out of his fav beaver jammy pants whilst getting out of bed this morning. Whiskey has a sad. Anyone know where I can get some orange ones?

  17. I will respect the process and only post the link here. It’s to a blitz thread written by a parent of a couple players on the team. He/She talks about the changes they’re seeing around the program through the words of the players. It’s worth a read if you have access, or if somebody else decides to copy and paste it in here against the wishes of Blitz. I asked the user if they’d be willing to re-post it on other sites to reach a wider audience, so maybe they’ll end up writing it here as well. (Funny how the only thing worth reading on Blitz is coming from a user of the site, yet Blitz is the only one getting paid in the whole not-so-neat deal)

    https://oregonstate.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=1248&tid=178049454&mid=178049454&sid=1051&style=2

      • I don’t have access either, but OSU friends literally just sent it to me verbatim via email before I saw BeavBlazer post the link.

If I post, does that violate whatever Blitz was getting pissed about earlier? Or am I good to post as it would be taking the information from a personal forum such as email? It’s a good read for sure, but wanted to get some peeps thoughts first.

        • Seems if your friend emailed it to you, it’s your friend’s problem and they risk getting banned. It’s not like anybody at Blitz broke a sweat over getting that content on their site, since it was posted by a user, so I don’t see the issue. It’s not like this site is bringing in ad revenue based on that content. But what do I know…

          • And like that…here we go!

This is from someone who has two sons on the team (I don’t need to mention, as it shouldn’t take long to figure out it was)

            (Begin)
With 2 boys on the team, I wanted to share some of what I’ve gleaned from them just over the last couple days. First off, the level of excitement about the new coaches, the goals of the program, the changes within the program and what is a SIGNIFICANT increase in the commitment of the university/athletic department to football.

Coaches – Significant difference in INTENSITY. The OC has said that OSU will be the TOUGHEST team in the Pac-12.

Goal of the Program – “To win Championships!” GA told the players that our goal is not just to make a bowl game, it is to win Championships!

Empasis on Competition – The BTA Teams – 8 teams were drafted by the coaches. They are competing in the 3 areas that Coach Anderson talks about: Athletics, Academics, and Social. Players earn points during morning conditioning and Friday workouts where they have events that they compete in. They earn points by their grade point averages. And they earn points in the Social area by attending other OSU sporting events, campus events (plays, concerts, guest speakers, symposiums, etc.).

Stepped up committment – Coach Anderson has told the players that he wants them “feeling like BIG TIME D1 athletes”. Therefore everyone got brand new workout gear at the first team meeting, which included new t-shirts with the team theme “Respect the Process” on them. They had new speakers put in the locker room (after GA talked to some of the senior players about what things could be done to improve their experience). They are going to add a few items to the players’ lounge and do a few minor polishes to the locker room for this season to make it more presentable to recruits and for benefit of the current seniors who won’t get to experience the upgrade to Valley after the 2015 season. Again, GA’s comment was “I want you guys feeling like BIG TIME D1 Athletes” (My opinion: one element of landing BIG TIME RECRUITS is making BIG TIME ATHLETES feel like BIG TIME ATHLETES. It’s a little thing that is a BIG DEAL)

Second Note: In the past, my sons have told us numerous times of them needing gear or having issues sizing shoes, finding gloves, or not having the right size T-shirts and being told “that’s all we’ve got”. We have provided our oldest with almost as much Beaver apparel as the university has in the past 3 years. They only get one pair of weight lifting shoes a year. Does anyone know how long a pair of weight lifting shoes lasts for anyone who works out for 2+ hours 200+ days a year, let alone for a 300+ pound athlete? Not very long.

(My opinion) All those “little” things in accumulation said to our student athletes, “Hey, we’re just getting by. You guys aren’t as good as these other teams, so we need you to be OK with getting by. And frankly, we’ll be happy with you guys getting to any bowl game becasue we are just happy to be D1.”
            (End)

My own opinion, just simply ecstatic to hear a new narrative being preached and change in philosophy.

          • Goal of the Program – “To win Championships!” GA told the players that our goal is not just to make a bowl game, it is to win Championships!

Ummm… why would a coach say such a thing? Doesn’t he know that he’s stupid and all sorts of other ridiculous pejoratives for saying this? Blah blah blah unrealistic blah blah blah Corvallis…

… or some equally inane garbage we’ve heard over and over and over and over… and over again from the media and the pollyannas… for years on end.

    • I remember when Tony Hawk was that young. And Rakim… cleaned out a box the other day and had some cassettes in it. Paid in Full was one. I was transferring all my CDs to USB drives last year, and when I got to Eric B and Rakim, I thought someone had stolen that CD. I had the other three, but couldn’t find it. I got a little grumpy about it and started being accusatory of people (or person) who might have “misplaced” it. Turns out I never bought the CD version because I had the cassette. Guess who had to take someone to a nice dinner as an apology.

  18. Anyone going to meet Andersen and staff this Saturday in Portland?

OT – Tavita Thompson reportedly joining Riley’s staff in Nebraska. Ha!

  19. I’m totally digging the punk history lesson from you old bulls. I’m apparently of a slightly later vintage than most of you, having grown up on NOFX, Lagwagon, Millincolin, and Thrice (plus a bit of Bad Religion and Pennywise).

NOFX – The Decline is my favorite song ever. Spent so many nights camping up the Molalla river in highschool rocking this shit.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnFVMkTWaBw

    • WFO goes back a little earlier than I do. I was too young for concerts in the 80’s and early 90’s. Sounds like he grew up in the golden era of punk/skate music.
I never tried the newer stuff like you mentioned, except Bad Religion (which isn’t as new as those others). I remember a friend tried to get me interested in AFI, which felt like a Danzig ripoff to me.

The Exploited. Now that was a band I dug back then….good memories….my ears still ring from those days though. Really regret not wearing ear plugs more.

      • Oh, AFI’s Art of Drowning album was another of my favorites. I don’t like what they’ve become now, but was totally into their older stuff. I couldn’t name a single Danzig song, so no comment on whether or not AFI ripped ’em off.

      • Yeah I grew up listening to 50s and 60s rock with my dad. Biggest Buddy Holly fan ever. He took me to see the Buddy Holly story at the McDonald theatre back when it was still a theatre. So we listened to all the good vintage hot rod rock , beach boys, Jan and Dean , Duane Eddy, Chuck Berry.

The simplicity and great hooks of that music really appealed to me and it translated easily to punk rock like Descendents and Youth Brigade and Agent Orange.

Hell my dad is a huge Social Distortion fan now and he’s 70.

    • The Decline is Amazing. Punk in Drublic is one of my favorite albums ever.

The mid to late 90’s Warped Tours were so good. Best shows ever

      • Last warped tour I went to was at the gorge. Pennywise. 311. And Me first and the Gimme Gimmes with the full studio line up. It was a dry show for Fuck only knows what reason and they came out and set up a tiki lounge one the stage and started mixing up cocktails. A couple songs in to the set Fat Mike goes ” y’know we’ve been on this tour for about a month now…and this is by far…the drunkest I’ve been” haha fuckin dickhead.

        They were very good live.

        • Although they are good live. The best warped tour I ever saw was in the 90s in estacata. Great lineup.

          NOFX
          Bad Religion
          Rancid
          Civ
          Reverend Horton Heat
          Strung Out
          MXPX

          • Some good underground there.

I’ve always been into fusion punk in different directions. Ska and folk punk have put out some great bands for a long time. I know I’ve brought up the Pogues before. There are plenty who carry on with that genre… Mischief Brew, Johnny Hobo, Days N Days… I don’t get Andrew Jackson Jihad. And I love Streetlight Manifesto (now Toh Kay because of a dispute with the label… killed my pre-order too… ass holes).

          • I was at that one too in 98′. The crazy thing about those Warp Tours is who you’d see that was completely unknown at the time but would blow up years later. I just looked up the history on that one in 98′ and supposedly Staind played in 98. Maybe they didn’t play Oregon or were on a back stage?

In 99′ at the Portland Meadows aside from the reqular great punk I saw Eminem and the Black Eyed Peas pre Fergie & Fame.

  20. I really enjoy listening to Scott Joplin on Saturday or Sunday mornings. Like 9am-ish with some eggs, juice, toast…it just fits so well for me with waking. If you haven’t done this, give it a shot.

    • I only have Joplin on some inherited 78s. That’s some old school stuff. Might as well drag out some Jelly Roll. I’m more in tune with Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown or Milt Jackson during those times.

      • About 15 years ago I first say The Sting. That’s what started it. Plus I have a real love for turn of the (last) century baseball and Joplin fits it well. Sometimes I will put him on and play Diamond Mind. But he’s good over breakfast, too.

  21. Up there with King Crimson as worst music ever I would put Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart. I just never “got” those bands. At all. But I like Can, which isn’t too far removed.

  22. Just came across this. Really hope this isn’t true. What’s next, do we massage their balls while they walk around our campus with the championship trophy?

Abigaelle Mulligan ?@abbsmulligan 7m7 minutes ago
Heard word that @oregonstateuniv’s Memorial Union will “go green” on Monday for the @CFBPlayoff. Love the spirit! #GoOregon #ThanksBeavs

  23. Does anyone own one of the new gopro 4 (silver)? Ordered one yesterday to film road trips and hikes. Are they as awesome as people say?

What about a ps4? I mostly only play sports games, namely mlb the show. Worth upgrading from a 3?

    • Seems like they come out with a new fucking console every time I get used to what we have. I still prefer the xbox over playstation. I just got us a 360 two years ago and now it’s xbox one? WTF? I can’t justify spending all that money on a console and games at 50-60 bucks a pop every two years because the old ones don’t work on a the new console.

      • The technology is advancing so quickly (“Moore’s Law”?) that they have to do it. But usually it takes a few years for the software developers to catch up to the new hardware. I love MLB the show on PS3. They have 6 old time stadiums, too, like Crosley field, Polo Ground, Griffith…the ps4 version doesn’t have them. So basically I’d be buying it for Madden and maybe a few racing games. Probably not worth it. Plus Madden has been doing downhill for years.

        • I would wait until the next gen consoles come out. Xbox One is close to being a stand alone set top box, and I can’t imagine Sony is going to be left behind in their next console. Right now they’re only configured to be pass-throughs, and the Xbox is better at it. As entertainment graduates to on-demand and a la carte options, I expect both to push through that wall and provide units that do it all.

If you go for the current, you have to learn the new tech and interfaces and spend a premium. The nice thing is that people are getting rid of their old units as they get the new, and that’s driving prices down. So you might be better off maxing out your hardware and looking into something like the Roku 3… if sports channels ever bothered to catch up with the real world.

          • I’m quite interested in seeing what Dish is going to do with Sling TV. It looks like they’re the first to try to go to the cheap base package model with add-on options. I’m hoping the PTN will work with them as one of those add-ons in the near future. If that happens, then I can downgrade my service from them and add Roku for a discount.

          • There was an 8 year gap from 360 to One and the One has been out for 1 year so far. You’re advising him to wait 7 years for the next gen consoles?!?!

And I thought I was being a little crazy for waiting to wait for the next gen iPhones to come out instead of getting one now…

          • Yes. I would not pay a premium just to have a new format than can be pieced together with other components for less. What’s he going to miss out on? New games?

            Ooh!

The catalogs for the new units are tiny… still… after a year. And most of them overlap with the previous gen anyway. Other than the graphics upgrade, there’s not much going on yet. And there are less expensive ways to smart your TV… like a set top rig.

The only pro I can say is for ps4. They offer a way to play ps3 games on it by streaming them. So if you like a ps3 game not made for ps4, you can still play it on the new unit with the better graphics. But I would still wait for a price drop or an enticing bundle later this year if I was to choose to get the new unit.

  24. So….I’m guessing he’s no longer planning to visit Corvallis?

    sheriron_jones3 (@gullyboyjonezy) tweeted at 9:55 AM on Thu, Jan 08, 2015:
I have officially committed to the university of Tennessee!!!!!!!!! Goooooooo VOL NATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • @1:30, still not on. Due any minute.
        EDIT: now saying 2 o’clock
EDIT EDIT: Andersen was on for about 10 minutes, between Canzano’s remarks and boiler plate from Andersen I didn’t catch much new.
Andersen continues to push the value of the true college experience and the fact that the community and college combine nicely. Lists culture of the area as an attraction for Poly’s and, really, for all SA’s.
He is having 5-10 minute individual meetings with all players now, and he bought a house yesterday with his wife only seeing pictures. Says wife is anxious to get to Corvallis to help other coaches wives get settled and to begin involvement with the team.

One more thing. He said that by the end of Spring we’ll have a good idea of our “identity”. I’m not gonna make too much of this remark, he was responding to Canzano’s question of how well he will know players after just a 5 minute conversation. He did indicate that the staff sees players “around campus” and keeps up with their academics…so there is more than the one-on-one conversations he is now having.

  25. This is hilarious. Welcome to Lincoln Coach Riley. Tush feeling warm?

      • Moore better get used to the way recruiting is handled. Every program is going to recruit multiple guys for the position, you and I know that. I’m sure he knows that. He seems to be in the “attention getting” phase of his recruitment right now.

I think when he finally verbals to a school, he’ll stick with it. But coaches have to cover their ass and recruit other kids as well.

        • Would be such a huge get…Wouldn’t be surprised to see some of our current QBs to move on an transfer. I think most the rest of the roster stays but it really seems that Anderson wants a different kind of QB….Then again this Fink kid is a pro style QB so maybe not. Still 6 QBs on the roster right now with none being scheduled to graduate and now new of offers to 2 more. No way they carry 7-8 QBs in 2016 do they?

  26. Banker talks about why Riley left for Nebraska:

“I’ll say it. It stalled out. We played for Rose Bowl two years in a row. One year we flat-out screwed it up and the next year we got beat in a very, very close game. And instead of the university seizing the opportunity going forward, our success was used to help out the other programs. Which they needed to do, places that had limited budgets and resources. That was a decision that was made.”
Banker said Oregon State was “falling behind in the arms race.”
“There aren’t any excuses,” he said. “Winning and losing still comes down to us doing our job in recruiting and doing a good job in our coaching, but change is good. Change is good.”

    • Say what we will about Banker’s D, I like how he’s the only one on the old staff who actually ever says anything interesting.

    • THe year they “flat out screwed it up” is the ’08 CW blowout when after he said he made the defensive approach “too complex” and players “couldn’t play fast.” A fault he again admitted after the lost to EWU (both at home by the way).

I’d say the coaches failed to sieze the opportunities in 08 and 09, and if they hadn’t things would be very different.

I agree with him change is good. Enjoy Lincoln for 2-3 years, than anticipate change again Banker.

  27. Totally spaced it. But one band no one has mentioned in this thread. Foreigner. Say you will, err whatever you wish. But that is a great band I never get tired of. Last studio album with Lou Gramm in 1995. Mr Moonlight. Love it! Front to back. Ignore the title. It’s called Mr Moonlight.

  28. Last thought on this thread. I, just as many others have stated I hate this or I love that. Everyone has their own tastes in music. For whatever reason. But to me music is more than just hearing something. Guitar riffs, lyrics that mean something. Melodies. That doesn’t make me any better than anyone else. It’s one thing that we can all agree on. I know of no one that does not listen to any type of music, or just one particular type of music. I love many types. From Chicago to Taylor Swift to AC/DC to some obscure shit you’ve probably never heard by a band called the Four Horsemen that put out one album many years ago. But there’s one thing I think we can all agree on. If our favorite artists did the same shit over and over and over again, we’d get burned out . Doing something different or “out of the box”. If your favorite band sang the same crap over and and over again, eventually you may tire of it. But some of their own unique sound no matter what avenues they explore will still remain. To me that is what truly makes someone great. Musically, lyrically, or even covering someone else’s shit. Things get repeated over time. But if it’s something you truly enjoy listening to, for whatever reason. From whatever genre or era, if it brings you happiness, that’s poetry……………….

    • Ever watch “High Infidelity,” John Cusack, Jack Black, Tim Robbins…hilarious scenes in Rob’s (Cusack) record shop where he and his friends make their “Top 5” lists…Barry (Jack Black) says Rob’s list is essentially predictable, safe and “Very pussy!”….and at some point when talking about what they like Rob says “How can it be bullshit to state a PREFERENCE?”

Many funny scenes throughout , including Cusack talking directly to the viewer and comparing record collecting to “porn or other fetishes…”

I think the script is based on a book by Nick Hornby, who is a very humorous author.

Anyhoo Napkin, some of these scenes are right in line with what you’re saying….

  29. Just happened across this on twitter earlier. Sortof looks like 2 guys possibly coming as a package deal from the Florida area, although that’s just speculation on my part. Neither one has great profiles on Rivals, but that can be misleading of course.
Deltron Sands is a Lockette guy and a 2* All purpose back (wore #4 in highschool), CJ Juedy is an unrated defensive back/safety who wore #8 (Since Mannion wore 4 and Zimmerman wore 8 last year, would make sense that those numbers are available next year)

    • I’m not going to pretend to be any good at evaluating talent, but if anybody else watches that Jeudy film, I’d be curious to know what you think. To me, he looks like a guy who can play. Seems to have a nose for the ball and closes fast, and tackles well.
Don’t see how he’s doesn’t have any ratings anywhere. Saw one interview where he said he was being recruited by Mizzou, Boston College and West Virginia at one point, but I don’t see any offers or star ratings.

Also, is it possible to get a new football general discussion thread going into the weekend? my browser can barely load this one anymore.

    • So interesting development. Both Jeudy and Sands followed me back and replied that it’s a “possibility” when I asked if they were planning to come out west.

Both play for the Florida state champions St Aquinas academy. Lot’s of quality players at that school. Also where Gio Bernard went to high school. Florida is a goldmine, and Telly Lockette is our prospector.

  30. A friend of mine told me he read on another site that Ryan Nall’s dad chimed in, and said his son was told by Telly Lockette that he will be playing at H-Back this year, and he wants his playing weight to be 248 lbs. Ryan Nall apparently is very happy with this news. That’s all I’ve got.
