Hey Beavlettes,
I’m back home and trying to catch up on things. So I go to the Oregonian figuring I’d get my cup of generic tea, but instead I’m served a steaming pile of horseshit writing. Check this out:
The case for Irvine: He boasts the most ideal frame and best 1-on-1 coverage ability in this young group. But with that skill set, maybe he will legitimately challenge for a starting cornerback job. That’s where he’s listed on the new depth chart, after all, after holding the No. 1 nickelback spot after spring practice.
What the hell? Is that English?
Why is there a “But” and “maybe” in sentence 2? Why not just say “With that skill set, he will challenge for the starting cornerback job.”??
“That’s where he’s listed on the new depth chart, after all, after holding the No. 1 nickelback spot after spring practice.”
Ah, the old tried and true “after all after”. By why/how does “after all” make sense in that context?
I first noticed awful writing on Yahoo, which had to be 10 to 15 years ago. Now it’s everywhere, and it’s become the norm. I’m thinking it’s due to people being short/incoherent via text messages, but even so, if you’re a professional writer you’d hope you could form complete, coherent sentences, and if not, you’d hope your editor would put the kibosh on ^^ this ^^ before going to print.
To the point of the article, I think Irvine will definitely start. Maybe not game 1 depending how slow GA is to get the best players on the field, but soon into the season. Wallace and Wilson are good looking players. Williams doesn’t look the part, but he gets the job done. I’d think those 4 are the top talent (pretty thin) at CB. I’m bullish on Landry Payne.
I agree with you about Irvine but i also am expecting some good things out of Williams. He might be the fastest player on the team and had a nice spring. Wilson’s highlights out of highschool were pretty impressive as well hopefully he can make those kind of plays in college. Overall very thin and young group.
Maybe you don’t need an English class to graduate with a journalism degree?
Gina’s an interesting case; she churns out a lot of material during the season and is a bigwig in an organization which promotes college journalism activities. While some of her writing shows the deficiencies noted above and follows a predictable format, I still much prefer her to Lindsay. Gina has introduced some good analytical themes which we never saw from Schnell.
Oh, welcome back to angry, hope the project was a success.
I like Gina, but she can’t write. The sentences are incoherent.
And where’s the editor?
I’m not sure if she or Schnell is a worse writer. Tough call, but Gina is likeable and cool. Schnell is awful.
I’m now in favor of the new writers at BTD. Wooldrige is gone…
There was a recruiting story on BTD a few weeks ago that was almost a word for word rip off of an Andrew Nemec story. They actually took the same set of words and rearranged them. It was pretty blatant amd Nemec called them out on it. Not sure if it got pulled. If I can find it I’ll link it
These are the two stories. I’m not sure if the BTD one has been modified since the original version. Also, on topic since it’s about another CB to consider as depth

Pretty sure the BTD version is different now.

Ha!
He usually lets it slide!
His ego aside, plagiarism is committed by lazy people being lazier than normal.
Pretty sure that was by the guy that ended up leaving, Andy.
Angry as much as you try to pick on her, I’d say you obviously have a crush on her.
pretty tame compared to your man crush on Pat Casey. And Mike Riley. Did you have a boner for Craig Robinson too?
Never went to a game during Robinson’s time. Horrible coach.
That would fit with the stereotype you are.
Many of us still went to games in Riley’s last two years… before he ditched OSU… for a second time… leaving it in a heaping pile of whiny weakness.
That’s because it’s about the school, friends, family and the kids playing a game.
I’d love to hear the stereotype you just put me in….?
so easy
Fallacy
so butthurt
About what?
I’m ready to fight anyone right now. That’s what I thought! Now time to check some chins!1!!
That you Riley Cooper?
Well… excuse you, Travis Bickle.
But you really need to put an OT before that.
That structure is the editor’s fault.
It looks like a second draft where either the author did some cut and paste and ended up with odd connectors here and there… before the edit. I’m thinking Gina would have caught this.
More than likely it was some moron hired by the cheapo cut-and-paste “news organization” cutting out sentences and words to make it fit a predetermined count which was less than was asked of the talent.
I think a big part of why you’re seeing these sloppy mistakes in online articles is because they can run the story and edit on the fly now. Sometimes the priority to get something (anything) out there, and then as mistakes are caught by readers or editors, they can be fixed with a few keystrokes and pushed out without anybody knowing. You’ll notice pretty much every online story on the O has a “published on” and “updated” timestamp. Most of these stories dont hit the print edition, so they don’t sweat the permanancy of their mistakes.
Good point. They also have deadlines to meet in order to get clicks.
Things are slow, maybe it is time for “way too early” predictions. Our old buddy Cliff K links to stories in the Statesman Journal; they’ve got the Beavs down 34-23 vs the Gophers.
Same rag has ucks being beaten by Huskers, 38-30. Quote, “Cornhuskers have a coach who knows Oregon well”
“It’s a sign alright; a going out of business sign!” ~ Ghostbusters
That being said, Yes, Riley knows Oregon, but Banker still doesn’t know how to defend them even with Elite talent.
Banker’s yakity saxs defense is going to get destroyed. But I’m not sure that the ducks defense is any better.
Riley losing on the last play would be awesome. Never gets old and always fun to rub salt into the wound with my brother.
“Snaching defeat from the jaws of victory”
Would really like to see Nebraska pull this one off. Too bad Riley never won a big game this early in the season. Hard to imagine that changing this year.
Does Wisconsin count? I guess that one was technically week two since the Nicholls State game was rescheduled.
If there was ever a way both teams could lose….I hope it happens during this game.
That happened long ago.
Lawrence Phillips wants his whizzinator back.
Anybody else get a call from the OSU ticket office offering a special $100 season ticket package? I didnt get any other details but that’s so cheap for 6 games. Wish I could make it down to Corvallis this year.
Looks like we could get a straight up trade for Del Rio.
https://www.seccountry.com/florida/report-list-of-schools-interested-in-florida-transfer-treon-harris-reaches-double-digits
“He threw for 1,676 yards and nine touchdowns, but completed just 119-of-235 pass attempts.”
Yeah….no thanks! 50.6% completion rate for 12 games, I’d rather keep Seth at QB.
I’m not exactly high on the targets Seth hit, let alone the ones he didn’t mean to hit…
… unless he’s Slash.
That guy could do no wrong!
Can we get a phone booth out on the field with the current renovations?
Five weeks from today. Rodent vs rodent.

That’s quite the link.
Any recommendations on things to do/restaurants to try out up there?
I will post a things to do list as we get closer. Are you coming out?
http://www.osubeavers.com/news/2016/7/21/womens-swimming-jennifer-buffin-tabbed-swimming-head-coach.aspx
Impressive résumé. A continuation of upgrading coaching across the board? As I understand it, though, OSU doesn’t have a competitive swimming space?
Ethan Thompson sounding more and more like he’s not really interested in OSU. Don’t fuck this up Tinkle
Can’t imagine he would go to Syracuse. They are on probation and will be for most of any time he would spend there. This includes losing 12 scholarships over 4 years I believe. Their team will be weaker than most ACC teams with those lost scholarships, so would be tough to field a competitive team.
Continuing dad’s legacy sounds like a neat deal, but at the expense of your career, probably not a great idea.
Of course nothing guarantees his dad will stay at OSU or that they’ll be competitive even
He’s been mentioning Cal a lot over the last few years and they were one of the only teams a few years ago to start going hard at him when others assumed he’d just go to OSU. Cuonzo Martin has also been killing it for Cal on the recruiting trail since he arrived. If he goes anywhere but OSU, my guess is Berkeley
Agree – he doesn’t sound enthusiastic about the Beavs. Not sure what more Tinkle can do.
I think it wasnt till around september 2 years ago, when we heard from all of the guys in Tinkle’s first class that they were planning to come here. Could be he’s trying to give the appearance of being open to all options so it doesnt look too much like dad is forcing his hand at all.
I have a feeling he is playing coy.
Can we get Mandy to close the deal despite her departure??
Some kids just want to strike out on their own. I didn’t go to the same school my dad went to even though he wanted me to go to his alma mater. I didn’t go where my siblings went or my friends. It was the best choice for me and still is.
I listened to simonton on the canzano show it was pretty interesting. He said that he believes Andersen needs his players and that some of the players just have that i just want to go home kind of attitude. Sounds about right on track with what happened with Andersen taking only limited players to the civil war game.
I also read an article by thr salt lake tribune (i think) and they had a quote by sitake saying he believes that the beavs will be competing for a championship in a couple of years because of the way they R recruiting. FWIW
When people say “a couple” I always assume they literally mean “two”. But I find that most of the time this is not true (anymore). In this case I doubt Sitake means the Beavs will be competing for a championship in two years. If he does, then he’s getting better weed down there than he got up here.
Maybe he means Pac12 championship. That would be more believable.
Eye of the Andersen Tiger from now on! This is for real now! Ride or die!!
BOOM! BIG boost for recruiting!!!!
Please explain.
Just a duck troll, ignore it.
