If Gebbia can’t go, and it’s looking that way, would you rather see Noyer or Nolan start?
From what I’ve seen of Noyer, he has better leadership skills than Nolan. Nolan has the advantage of knowing the offense better. Both seem equally good runners, but Noyer looks a bit thicker in the lower half and like he could maybe break some tackles. He also seems fearless, like a guy who would dive for first downs, etc.
Noyer seems the slightly better pick, but it’s a question of how much Nolan’s experience matters. Lindgren said that Noyer is making mistakes in practice, and he attributed those to not knowing the system yet and/or being hesitant.
This is a tough call. I’d probably give Noyer the slight lean, but I’m not confident in the pick. Hopefully Gebbia can return this weekend and make it all moot.
I put up a Twitter poll on the matter. Let’s see what the masses think.
https://twitter.com/angrybeavs/status/1430901619068006407
Voted, even though I’m permanently banned on Twatter. Not exactly sure why…maybe because I called Megan Rapinoe a cunt instead of a dick. But, you know Twatter, they make up reasons to ban you.
Go with Nolan and have the experienced guy as the reliever.
What am I missing on Noyer who had a great season last year? Im shocked there is debate.
It’s a toss up to me. I’d go with whoever is going to limit mistakes and let the run game lead the offense.
Has Nolan improved and matured? He looked overwhelmed in his starts last season. Noyer’s in his fifth year, so he’s not going to be intimidated by being on the road. Noyer also seems more capable running the option.
I guess Noyer, but I’m equally nervous either way.
Nolan starts if he has figured stuff out since last year.
That said I’m pretty sure Gebbia starts and were just seeing him get some rest.
Season opener on the road versus a similar quality team, go with who will make the least mistakes as Purdue will have the same issues and hopefully the defense can force turnovers.
I think you start Noyer and see how he manages the game. Unfortunately, there’s no JJ type dominant RB or Hodgins type receiver to take the pressure off the QB, therefore, beavers are going to need consistency and production from the QB more so than the last few years. The beavers just don’t appear to have any dominant skill offensive players yet but maybe someone steps up to fill that role. At this point, nobody has proven to be a star threat. This is an opportunity for someone to make a statemennt and be the guy to lead the offense. Under the circumstances, I’m not overly optimistic that anyone on the offense possesses the star wow factor.
With good OL play, you don’t really need a star RB, just someone good that can hit the holes that are there. We have 4-5 of those guys on the roster.
When you have 3 Quarterbacks, you have none.
That is gonna be really hard news for every college and professional football team in the US.
OT: Can anyone recommend the best water filtration system to remove PFAS?
Reverse osmosis. This is what chemical manufacturing sites often use when they need to ensure their process water doesn’t have impurities that could affect the process.
Can you recommend the best RO system? I was researching them, and there are hundreds. It’s overwhelming. With all the fire retardant foam being sprayed around the West, no water is going to be safe. I can’t believe in 2021 we’re still doing this behavior…
OT: For the record, this not me…

Any Angrybeavs making the trek to Purdue?
No, but i happened to watch highlights from last year’s Purdue/Minnesota game. Glad Moore is off to the NFL, because he was extremely active in that game. And Purdue had the game winning touchdown called back for some phantom offensive PI call when replay showed there wasn’t even any contact. Minnesota was lucky to escape with that W last year. And Purdue looks pretty dangerous, offensively.
Their kicking game and defense sucked, so hopefully that’s where the Beavs will have an advantage.
It was skill…..not luck!
Will be heading there next Thursday – actually thought enough ahead to get tickets through OSU, only $30 each.
Nice!
Isn’t Bendbeav on this site a Purdue guy?
Yes he is.
Thanks for the recall. It’s my alma mater and my daughter who is an OSU grad will be flying in from NYC to join me. I’ll be there with my orange pants, custom black and orange Chuck Taylors, and Purdue shirt on. I’m really stoked just to see old friends who are still in West Lafayette (where I grew up). Purdue is in my blood but I’m also a near equivalent Beav fan. Being as objective as I can, I give the win to the Beavs by 10. I think Purdue’s secondary is kind of a mess. Purdue’s fullback, Horvath, is a bruiser and fun to watch though.
I haven’t decided yet if I drive up from Tennessee
We’ve decided that you’ll be going to the game.
I’m going. I’ve been to all the Big10 games since I moved out here. I feel much better about this being a good game as opposed to Ohio State.
Lisa and I are going. Just making a quick 3-night trip of it.
Go with Noyer. The Beavs have to attack Purdue on the ground, and nothing opens up the TE passing game more than having a running quarterback. Nolan is too jittery to start the first game at a hostile stadium.
Who ever takes snaps next Saturday needs to be a game manager and limit the number of possessions Purdue gets.
I like Noyer’s heart and leadership but his interception rate at CO, in a system he was established in, makes his knowledge of the Beav playbook a critical factor. He’ll need a terrific day in practice today to swing the needle his way, otherwise I’d expect Nolan to start.
This squad isn’t ready (yet) to recover from many TO’s.
I wish Smith would just name the starter already. We’re deep enough into camp he should do that.
My guess, he’ll keep it secret until late in game week so Purdue has to plan for both QBs. Or even Gebbia.
No harm in keeping them guessing while he and the starter will know who is going to play all week long.
Same as civil war a couple years ago. No one outside the program knew until Gebbia walked into the field that he was starting. And he knew all week he was.
The Purdue HC has already said that they have decided on their QB but won’t announce it for a few days.
JS needs to close practice during game week, make a decision, and get reps for his guy. Then, as you say, announce late in the week.
UPDATE: Purdue has made their announcement, see Nicebeaver’s entry below.
Say it with me now: “2…QB…PACKAGE”
With Colletto in short yardage, it’s basically that.
2 QB’s on the field at the same time. Dave Baldwin did it once or twice, but I don’t think we’ve seen it since.
There’s absolutely no reason you can’t do this if you have at least one athletic QB (preferably two).
Ever think there’s a reason it doesn’t get used?
Get two QBs injured on one play?
He’ll likely ask media to not report on who’s getting the most reps in practice. They like their access and will go to lengths to keep it. Good way for teams to bury negative stories. Depth chart will say Nolan or Noyer.
First game is a must win IMO… Nolan knows the system and was close to a few big upsets last year with no real camp. Maybe he’s turned the corner?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/football/osu-football-gebbia-injury-puts-starting-qb-decision-on-hold/article_8606d56a-1612-5e3b-9bce-706cedc82734.amp.html
Sounds like Nolan to me, but could just be coach talk
PAC12 opts not to expand at this time. Smart. There weren’t 4 schools out there that checked all the boxes.
The Conference of Roses merger with the Big 10 continues to make the most sense to me, but I’m doubtful it will happen now that THE ALLIANCE has been announced.
SC and Stanford f’d that up a few years ago.
I wonder which of the two is better at reading defenses? That’s one of Gebbia’s strengths, then changing the play call.
I’d suggest starting Noyer, but would try and give Nolan a few series in the second and third quarters if the Beavs happen to have good conditions (lead, field position).
I’m sure Coletto will get some snaps if they have a series inside the 10 yard line.
“Jackhammer” Colletto will get snaps in short yardage situations both inside and outside the 10.
He’s a savvy player, I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t throw a few passes this season.
I mean why throw when he was never stopped rushing. He is not a good passer. I do think Noyer will take some of those runs from Colletto as he is just as big and fast. Plus a better passer. Might use them in third and short more often. Esp with the vet o line.
Everything you say there is true, except he may be a better passer now than what we have seen in the past.
I’ll still be surprised if Colletto doesn’t throw a few passes this season; to me this fits JS aggressive style when the opponent thinks it knows what is coming.
Do we want a linebacker throwing passes?
Has JS ever pulled a switcheroo?
Lindsey is a better passer than colletto. He has more passing tds.
True again.
And in a recent interview Lindsey hinted he may get that opportunity again.
JS……aggressive…….switcheroo…….it all fits!
Would rather not hurt a starting QB over a goal line TD attempt again…
Noyer only has this one year of eligibility before he’s out, while Gebbia can sit out or play little this season while he heals up and Nolan and Vidlak have multiple years of eligibility. So, I’m thinking start Noyer, bring Gebbia off the bench if he is able and let Nolan and Vidlak fight it out for supremacy two seasons down the line. Noyer has the most Pac-12 experience and did a good job at Colorado last year after being thrown into the job. Go Beavs!!
We made the top 75! Purdon’t #101
https://news.yahoo.com/college-football-rank-1-130-145453536.html
Nebraska #40. Someone is smoking crack at USA Today.
Whichever QB can hit our receivers/TEs in stride should be the guy. They’re our best offensive weapon. If they can be put in a position to create yards after catch, we’ll have our most success. I just dont see the run game winning any games for us this year. Have we had a single long TD run reported in any practice report this offseason? Jefferson was able to rip at least one off per game it seemed like and that often changed the complexion of the game for us.
In the film I watched Noyer did just that several times. I forgot which game it was but he hit a guy perfectly in stride on a slant and it resulted in a long TD. If the guy had to slow down at all he would’ve been caught but because it was perfect he was able to pull away for the score. It looked like he had quite a few long TDs and deep balls which could be huge for this team and its speed at receiver. Haven’t had much of a deep passing game for awhile. Even with Luton he completed more mid range than deep balls and Hodgins wasn’t a deep threat at all.
Sedge up with interviews from today, Tibs gives depth chart hints.
Pretty sure we should all know by now. It’s been pretty I obvious I think. There were only a few positions in question on both sides of the ball.
Purdue chooses junior Jack Plummer as their starter at QB.
He didnt start at the beginning of the 2020 season but did later. He was QB against Minnesota and looked pretty good in the highlights I saw. Nothing flashy, just a solid QB who knew how to get the ball to his playmakers.
Film link from Minnesota below:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=339JjjMicZ4
Ya I watched highlights from them last year. He’s the more mobile of the 2. Jake plummers son. They have 2 good WRs. Bell is really good.
Hey NB, I remember that PI call. It did look terrible, but there was another angle that showed the TE push off with full arm extension to get separation. The call was correct.
I just watched some of David Bell’s film from last year (Purdue WR) and he’s insane. We need to make him a focus point for the defense otherwise we might bet 10 catches for 150yrds and 2 TDS put on us. I’m more confident in our secondary now then ever though.
I have too and agree. His QBs have a lot of trust in him to make plays and he does. Granted those are highlights tho. It will be a good test for Wright and to see just how good he is. I would hope that he follows him instead of letting Austin get matched up with him. Also agree that the secondary should be .uch better this year. Could be like the OK. State receiver that killed us a couple of years ago other than he’s their main weapon opposed to Okie st. Having Hubbard and Spencer. Really think our pass rush will be much better and it will have to be. He should be the focus of the defense. Although the other receiver isn’t too shabby I think you have to try to take Bell away.
What makes you think our pass rush will be much better? Other than hoping Gumbs can stay healthy and play, there isn’t really anyone who has shown a consistent ability to get QB pressure on the roster. Rawls seemed to get in the backfield and make plays than most of our other d linemen but apparently he hasn’t been able to beat out Anderson and Sandberg!?? Strange.
Not only Gumbs but add in Saluni who is the largest of them all and Franke. Also depth increased, depth, strength, size, experience, knowledge in system, conditioning, full offseason, coaches familiarity with players and strengths, Better secondary making qb hold the ball longer, camp reports of it being better. I think there are plenty of reasons to think it will be better. Factor in Sio being able to push the center into a QBs lap and force him out of the pocket as well.
Sio will suprise. He’s doing well against an OSU OLine that is pretty good.
Sure, he’s raw, but 340+ pounds of explosive strength driving the middle is going to create some opportunities for others.
Wright can handle him. Missing Jones is huge, though. Really messes up what looked like an elite secondary.
Ya I think Austin was going to beat him out tho so both him and Wright need to stay healthy until we get him and Robinson back. Austin was decent but struggled some last year but sounds like he’s made some real strides as Blue and Tibs both have mentioned him. I’m a little worried about his temper too as I remember him getting at least 1 stupid late hit penalty last year at a critical time.
I think Wright can handle him somewhat too but wish he had the Hawaii game or something first to get his feet wet before going up against 1 of rhe best receivers in college football and 1 of the best he’ll face all year. Like I said it will be a good test and hopefully he shadows Bell.
Brohm has recruited offensive skill players very well. It will be a legit test for our secondary. Really need to get some pressure and shut down the running game.
Bell is insanely good and offense is Brohm’s strength. It’ll be really about what defense shows up for Purdue.
And about which defense shows up for the Beavs
To me doesn’t really matter who starts. Just get a win.
It’s really tough to say who should start without being able to watch them practice. From what I’ve seen Noyer has the best arm. He has a lot of power and can be very accurate. He’s also fairly fast and runs with good power for a qb. The interceptions are a concern for me tho. This team can win a lot of games by just protecting the ball IMO. This team was close to winning a lot of games for that reason. If the defense can force some more TOs this year I think I think they will definitely win a lot more games.
Watched the Purdue vs Minnesota highlights NB posted. Purdue’s defense is really bad and it doesn’t sound like a hey did much to improve it. Their offense mostly revolved around Moore either directly or misdirection. RB were okay, not scary. Plummer is a good qb. He’s accurate, decent decision maker, good arm and just as crafty as his dad scrambling.
The biggest thing that worried me was their use of TE in the passing game. Lots of delays and sneaky drags in the flat that are easy for the defense to lose.
Overall they kinda looked like crap against a not great Gopher team. I am glad Moore had moved to the NFL
They fired their DC (ex-Riley DC Bob Diaco), so that may lead to some improvement (though they’re likely still learning a new system).
The main thing I saw was their D-Line had zero push and their line backers were very slow to react. Instead of getting in lanes they would wait to see the ball carrier before they started to move. Thats a recipe for getting blown by and making RB’s look like super stars.
Diaco was replaced by three coaches who are brand new to the organization, they all carry the “Co-DC” title.
The over/under for this game is 65; I don’t think scoring is gonna be a big problem for the Beavs.
IMHO this one is up to Tibs and his improving D,
Agree
Is Jake plummer his dad? If do, you know the kid has a great football IQ and that’s always a great quality in a QB.
Definitely not. I got that from someone but his first kid was born in 2010 so that would be a pretty impressive 11 year old. Looks like it was a twitter thing for awhile.
Correct. Not his kid.
Still havent had any success getting this crappy CBS Sports website to let me set up a Pickem league for the group. I’ll be out till Sunday night. If anybody else wanta to give it a shot this weekend, feel free to set a league up and i can help spread the link around when i get back.
Otherwise, I’ll try again Sunday night. Hopefully it’s just a case of the site not going live until game week. Very typical for the CBS site. Advertise something but fail to actually deliver what is advertised

Does anyone think Smith will be on the hot seat if he doesn’t produce a winning season and a bowl game appearance this season? Why or why not?
Hot seat, yes. 4 years of losing records isn’t tolerated anywhere. But he’s not getting canned unless they pull an Andersen special and completely implode.
He’ll get more slack if he closes out the best recruiting class in program history and Barnes thinks it looks like there’s improvement and enough moral victories. Last season, for example, despite the record, we were a few minutes of game time away from a bowl game. Season before, same thing.
Warm seat. He will get an extra long leash unless we go 0 for the season.
I don’t think he’ll be on the hot seat for a few reasons. #1 there is now too much momentum for the new west side of the stadium.. You don’t want to set your program back even further by creating more uncertainty with fans and recruits. In addition, you want to make sure her as many fans back into the stadium when the new west side is complete. That could be a challenge if there’s a possibility of a coaching change in the near future. Lastly, I think the pandemic casts a little more patience with rebuilding a program like OSU. Certainly, if the beavers go 2-10, 3-9, or 4-8, I think that will put more pressure on Smith, but bc of Gebbia’s status and inexperience at QB with Nolan and Noyer New to OSU and continued Covid challenges, Smith will get extra time. Don’t forget the entrenched conservative old timers love Smith and his nice guy image.
If the offense continues to produce at a high level and the defense doesn’t improve I think Tibs needs to go. If Smith doesn’t make a change then his seat might get a little warm. I hope and think the defense will be improved enough to win more games but we’ll see. I would hate to have to change defenses now that the personnel for it is really starting to take shape.
If we have a bad season it’s gonna land on tibs.
I could see a jumbled QB situation torpedoing us, too
The QB situation could be the reason for a poor showing but Tibs is still the one who’ll take the fall.
I just don’t see the QBs having to much asked of them. Gebbia didn’t have to do a whole lot and was able to win some games. If the team can stay ahead of the chains and not get behind too far they should be fine. Noyer was able to win a lot of games with Colorado and I don’t see any reason he wouldn’t be able to do it here.
Oh I get that. But you can’t have a bottom 100 defense 4 years in a row then point at the qbs. We need to be in the top 75 on defense or we’re not winning many games.
Re: pass rush, PFF says our only pass rushers that were above average were Sandberg, Roberts, and Skelton (small sample size). This doesn’t necessarily mean they were the ones generating pressure, just that they did what they were supposed to do and made a positive impact on the pass rush.
If we’re going to be better this year, where is it going to come from?
Roberts, Speights and Wright will both be all Pac12 2nd team or better this season. Either Roberts or Speights will be 1st team.
But still need better DL production, so really depends on Schadd and Hodgins making it back into the rotation by the time we start Pac12 play. Lolohea needs to be healthy too.
Tall order
Is Lolohea hurt? I didn’t see that. I just figured he wasn’t impressing as much as we thought he would.
I fhought Tibs mentioned him in that post practice video yesterday as a guy who has to get healthy but had been doing good things this fall. I dont have time to double check that right now, so maybe somebody else can keep me honest?
That’s the way I heard it.
OT: looks like Air-Soft DB’s reinstated, will only miss opener.
College Football News predicts Purdue to be a tad bit sharper, edge the gamey Beavers 38-30…
Of course they get a slap on the wrist and won’t miss Ohio state. Hopefully they get bitch slapped anyways.
bitch slap is nothing compared to what they’d have received if one of their victims was carrying!
Per OLive, starting DLine looking like Skelton/Sandberg/Anderson with Sio/Rawls/Shippen next in line. Tibs hopeful that Schad can get involved soon.
Reichner seems to be invisible, haven’t heard anything about him. Anyone know the story there? At one point he was one of our best players and a rising star…
His size got caught up with during injuries and sitting out last season. I’m sure you will still see him in rotation this year. When he showed up we had like 5 players over 280 on the dl. Not a problem now
I think its combination of more depth, talent, size and injuries for him. I think it’s actually kind of a good sign.
Outside of a few practice reports that he was good I never saw anything remotely encouraging from Reichner.. Let alone a rising star. He seems undersized and incredibly slow. There’s a reason we were his only P5 offer.
Maybe they offered him to get a relationship with Speights?
Perhaps but I think it was more of a function of being incredibly desperate for d line help and the also being the very first somewhat rushed recruiting cycle for JS. Was really a beggars can’t be choosers type scenario. But… if they also identified Speights and decided to build a relationship that way it’s certainly a shrewd chess not checkers type move.
Noyer will be the starter. Book it.
It’s not my opinion it’s the truth. I doubt smith leading them on. Don’t we want smith to be coy and not so friendly to the competition.
Purdue prep begins today.
Starting QB will be named today, right?
Word is lineups will be announced Monday.
Hope Smith isn’t leading the guys on. Feels that way at this point. He has to know who the best option is.
He knows but it’s not public. It’s okay. Noyer will be the starter though according to my source.
The starter will know he’s starting all week, just not the fans. That’s fine. Keeps Purdue a little off balance.
Two days still left, but it looks like the people have spoken.
https://twitter.com/angrybeavs/status/1430901619068006407
Noyer has more experience against P5 competition, and opening with a win and going 3-0 in non-con is necessary growth for this program.
I still suspect there could be a few series for Nolan in the game.
To be fair, Noyer only has like 3 more games of P5 experience than Nolan does
But he has more wins. Nolan has none.
I have no idea, but I’ll throw this prediction and see if it sticks. Beavers 28 Purdue 23.
Going to be higher scoring than that I think.
Don’t know as usually first games are pretty sloppy offensively for mediocre programs
Say that to their face.
So what’s the issue? The beavers haven’t been exactly world beater to open up a season recently, i.e., TOSU, OKIE St. just to name a few and those games were a hot mess. Or the fact I called them a mediocre program which is being very kind. I hope they prove me wrong about sloppy opening games.
How long before Nebraska fires Frost?
Did Riley destroy another program, or is Frost actually worse? Riley 19-19 in 3 years. Frost 12-20.
Maybe he just hired the wrong f***ing assistants.
Fun watching big red roll over to Illinois. If they pull this out nebbie will claim it shows what a great coach frostie is
Doubtful. Their OL is getting owned and Martinez looks lost.
Frost is SO bad. Reminiscent of GA. Takes a mediocre program and absolutely runs it into the ground.
I’d take Riley (minus Banker) in a heartbeat over those two clowns.
Riley never had a winning season without Banker. I think the offensive game passed him by, but he was at least as good a DC as Riley was a HC.
Nebraska owes like 15 million to buyout his contract. Nebraska admin is the clear culprit. Fire solich, hire Callahan. Disaster. Fire Callahan, hire pelini. Tire of his asshole ways but still had winning records, fire him. Hire Riley who was never a fit. Fire him, try to recreate the golden days, hire Frost.
riley was .500 at neb, frost is around .350….lol
just noticed that was posted above..
Frost should go back to being an OC. I love watching them run that program into the ground…they’ll buy him out, desperate to return to Osborne-like glory….
Next up on the previous nebbie player coach carousel…Trev alberts, ndamukong suh, grant wistrom, will compton…
Robinson-Thompson looking rough for UCLA
Their defense looks mean though
Hard to tell if it’s UCLA’s D or Hawaii’s offense.
UCLA’s running game dominating right now. Who needs a QB?
Yeah all it is at this point is a way for us to measure against UCLA.
DRT can’t hit anything. Their TVs are getting about 12 yds a carry though
I’m looking forward to our new RB Cerberus tearing up that Hawaii D
Hawaii’s qb just keeps dropping. DEs are just running right past the poor tackles.
Like the “Cerebrus” name…hope they can run at Purdue.
After watching Saturday’s scrimmage, I would be surprised if Nolan got the start. He didn’t get a lot of playing time and when he did, I think is was with the 3’s and 4’s (after Noyer and Vidlak had gotten in their work). He looked small, not overly mobile and his arm was a notch below both Noyer and Vidlak’s. He would really struggle pushing the ball past 10 yards and I left the stadium thinking he was not really being considered.
Sounds like more evidence that JS is playing games
The way they were used, I just got the impression that Gebbia/Noyer are the starters until Vidlak can give them a run for their money. Sam looked like a polished, well-coached 7 on 7 QB who has to get comfortable dealing with a pass rush. Noyer was just better at anticipating, escaping and getting off a good throw when a play would break down. He also seemed to have the slightly stronger arm and was making longer throws, but Vidlak will develop all of this with a time – he’s not that far off.
I was told the team loves Vidlak whatever that means. Many interesting options for various reasons.
DTR still looking rough, including attempting to hurdle a guy who was standing upright.
Chip likes that kind of confidence
I don’t think Seth Collins even had that kind of confidence
Maybe he’s just “ballin’”
Next for players: hurdling in the open field with no one in front of them…
Gebbia named Offensive team captain. Interesting considering the chances are low he starts at this point
Not unheard of. Ryan Gunderson was always a team captain.
Well liked guys are always chosen captain no matter their playing status
UCLA qb will hold them back from rising to the top of the south. Whether their defense is really that good is just another example of luck of the Beavs.
We schedule Hawaii when they are experienced at qb and rising, other PAC schools tend to get them when they have a new coaching staff and look overmatched.
I still like the Beavs chances as the surprise team of the conference. Maybe Noyer starts and Vidlak is in the wings like Jake Browning was for JS at UW. I like the idea of a 4 year starter with a ton of moxie, great arm and leadership qualities.
We play Hawaii at home on 9/11
Looks like Hawaii is really bad on special teams. By having superior athletes we should be able to capitalize on that.
Hawaii just had a really, really bad day in general, too.
We play Hawaii week 2 tho?
LOL silver lining then! I was thinking Rolovich’s team a couple of years ago. Hopefully we show as well against them as UCLA did then…
“In topping the Cornhuskers in back-to-back years for the first time since 1923-24, Illinois put holes in the theory that Bielema’s first team would bring up the rear in the Big Ten.(Obviously, the new leader in the clubhouse for that honor belongs to Nebraska.)” buwahhaahhaaha
If they can beat purdue it looks like a pretty good chance of starting 3-0.
If they can’t beat Purdue they’re not very good and could easily lose to Hawaii and will struggle to beat most teams in p12. My gut is telling me it’s more of the same old Beavs and they’ll find a way to lose to Purdue
They might lose to Purdue but not Hawaii. Hawaii is just awful…
Ya I don’t think Purdue is bad at all andbare favored to win so I don’t know why you would think they would lose to Hawaii just because they lose to Purdue. I think they’ll beat Purdue. Why do you think its the same old Beavs? Smith has shown improvement every year.
Agreed. I think they beat Purdue too.
I don’t think Purdue is very good. I think if we lose to them, it’s a bad sign. I’m concerned our D won’t be able to stop the run and won’t force TOs. Plus I’m concerned with our QB play. I’m expecting them to beat Purdue but that usually means they’ll find a way to lose:-)… 4-8 overall with 3-0 non conference record is my prediction
They were in most games last season. Perhaps they aren’t as bad as their record indicates?
Lol Nebraska. Frost has somehow figured out a new level of dumpster fire not previously know to science.
Martinez isn’t helping. How does an experienced fumble at the end of a half like that. The announcer said maybe you do want to
Give Nebraska the ball back, ha. So many terrible
Errors (fielding punt on the one)
I think I remember people on here wanting Frost for the Beavs a few years ago. Its a semi educated crap shoot.
Decent preview they pick Purdue tho. Oregon state was 13th last year in tackles for loss on offense. That should stay the same or better this year. If they can block Purdue’s star pass rusher the offense should roll.
https://collegefootballnews.com/2021/08/purdue-vs-oregon-state-prediction-game-preview
Gotta hand it to Luton for sticking to it, he looked great in Preseason finale (aside from a botched snap). Playing about 1000% faster than he did before JS. Decisive and accurate. Made his case for QB2 behind Lawrence (although prolly land 3rd).
Luton didn’t suddenly overachieve. Most can’t identify what a competent QB looks like on a mediocre team.
Well, they traded Minshew for a 6th round pick for some reason. Urban must like what he sees.
16 of 18 for 137 and a TD, no INTs…nice. Likely against 2nd or 3rd string, but still.
The CBS pickem pool is up.
I’ve gone with a 12 game format against the spread.
Priority goes to Pac12 games and then I’ll fill the rest of the slots with games that seem to be interesting that week.
Since we’re picking against the spread, there may be a few Pac games that get left out during non conference because pt spreads generally dont get set for the FCS opponents.

Hey NB what is the pool password?
Sorry about that.
Try the following(case sensitive)
GoBeavs2021
I see Seth Collins is questionable this weekend. Questionable, indeed.
Crazy that he’s still playing. Hopefully he’s making the most out of all that free college.
He should have his junior year completed by Spring Break
How many PHDs does he have?
More like how many kids does he have.
It is crazy he’s still playing. I did a little research and apparently he’s a DB now.
2015 – OSU QB
2016 – OSU WR
2017 – OSU WR (only played 3 games and must have taken a redshirt year. Then transferred at some point)
2018 – TTech WR
2018 – TTech WR
2019 – TTech WR (missed the season to injury – medical redshirt)
2020 – TTech DB (COVID exemption)
2021 – TTech DB
So yeah, entering his *8th* season in college football. Two schools, three positions.
Oops. Doubled 2018. It’s actually his 7th year of CFB.
A girl I went to OSU with spent 9 years getting her undergrad degree. Has to be a record still. Seth is on her heels.
Unless you have people relying on you for support, who cares how long it takes? You only get to be in your 20’s once…
Or as Seth likes to say, you only get to bang every cheerleader in the universe once…
…oh wait, Gary Andersen likes to say that, too.
30 year old showing at a frat party is bad form though
I’m anticipating the Beavs will be offering a new 2022 Edge/OLB/DE, Devan Thompkins, in the near future.

And there’s the offer.

Dude’s gotten some big offers the last 5 or 6 days.
Off topic, but where could I find some video of 1967 USC upset game??
I second this. I’d love to see my old man tearing it up against the mighty Trojans!!
My dad was at that game.
Your dad played in the game?
I watched on TV at US Naval Station San Diego where I was going to Navigation School.

Here you go. I hope you like dive plays out of the Wing T, because that’s pretty much all we run. USC’s offense is more fun to watch.
A few notable moments:
3:59 big hit by an OSU defender
8:53 a Choukair-esque missed easy field goal
9:45 the old school PR strategy of having a guy back to protect the PR backfires
11:50 USC appears to fake punt from their own 10 on 3rd down? Not even JS has balls that big.
14:06 A little OSU Keystone Cops routine on the punt
15:18 Monster OSU PR, but that guy can’t hold onto the ball for some reason
The progressively muddy field is pretty crazy. And few things bring a smile to my face like the old school deep knee bend incomplete pass signal from the refs.
Can anyone tell me why pass blocking used to be so bad?
I believe it was late 70s when blocking rules changed to allow players to extend their arms and use their hands. It was significantly more difficult prior to that.
Yup, at one time you couldn’t use your hand only forearms.
Would anybody be interested in doing a 2nd version of the CBS picken, but with a nominal buy in and jackpot for the victor?
Was thinking something like $5-$10 to be included and 100% return for the overall winner?
I think i would have to go with the default rules, to eliminate any risk of people thinking i was screwing them over if I accidentally missed a week of picks. I think rue default just picks a handful of national games from across college football.
Let me know what you think. We could use the Beavrecruiting venmo acct to hold the pot and i can tale screenshots in case anybody needs verification.
I’ve also decided to donate $20 to the pot for the main Pac12 pickem, so anybody can win that one with free buy in.
I’d be in.
Here’s another Beaver classic and probably my favorite Civil War game (2007):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2H_ado_xdE
This one has it all: Beaver Bras, Matthew Sieverson, Al Afalava jacking people up, 5 WR’s you won’t remember, and of course, the end is incredible.
Gary Andersen joins Weber State staff as a volunteer:
…head coach Jay Hill announced Friday that Andersen will join the Wildcats as a volunteer staff member, serving as an adviser while assisting the defensive coaching staff.
No word on whether or not he’ll bring in Seth The Great to assist the D-line coaches or to coach high jumpers on the track squad.
https://www.deseret.com/2021/8/27/22644956/gary-andersen-is-back-in-the-coaching-business-weber-state-jay-hill
He’s probably got the money to do it….advising the rally squad while assisting the defensive staff?
How else is he going to get close to the cheerleaders?
Mannion 13/15 and a TD for the SeaChickens Saturday night…77 yards, no INTs
Projections for Jets Roster:
“Defensive Line (8)
Quinnen Williams, Sheldon Rankins, John Franklin-Myers, Bryce Huff, Folorunso Fatukasi, Nathan Shepherd, Ronald Blair, Hamilcar Rashed
This unit took a hit last week with the loss of Carl Lawson for the season. Lawson moving to IR opened up a roster spot for Rashed, an undrafted free agent. Blair has been injured throughout camp, making his status to start the season a question mark.”
However, the Jets also traded a 6th round pick for a DE, so maybe Rashed will be on the move or stashed on the practice roster?
New thread up for…GAME WEEK!
