Well it’s finally here. The days are still warm, but the nights have a crispness in the air, the pumpkins have turned orange and are at size, cinnamon and nutmeg suddenly sound palatable after being ostracized to the back of the cupboard for six months…and the Beavs have our hopes up yet again, only to crush them in five days?
Soon enough we will learn these truths of the universe.
I’m trying to parse out my excitement of having the best roster in 15 years with the reality that key guys are hurt, Noyer is hit and miss and potentially an INT machine, and I’m a biased/excited fan this year. What are the discounts on those things? Coupled with it being a road game, probably 10 to 14 points. Can we realistically overcome that? I’m not sure. I like the offense so much, and I’m such an excited and delusional fan this week, that I’m tempted to say yes.
36-33 Beavs in a stunner. Hayes with a 55 yard heart attack ball that sneaks in to win it.
Go Beavs!
Second!
Beavs surprise with a solid defensive performance and the offense gets the game done with plenty of good field position. Running game carries the day with over 200 yds and 3 tds. Defense has atleast 3 sacks and 2 turnovers. QB play is unimpressive but not a detriment.
Purdue can’t get in rhythm without Moore and rush defense has a beaveresque day.
34-17 Beavs
Reading about Purdue, there are a lot of similarities between the two teams coming into this one. I think the biggest difference makers will be OL play and whether either defense is as improved as they say they are.
Putting aside all the good vibes coming out of camp, I feel like the indicators give Purdue a slight edge.
Injuries- we’re missing more impact guys (Schad, Hodgins, Jones, Robinson, Gebbia?) than Purdue (starting MLB, maybe the guy that bit the paramedic)
Early season track record- both JS and Brohm have pretty bad records in early season games. Purdue gets the nod here because they started 2-0 last season. Interestingly, they also had a disappointing loss to Nevada a few years ago.
Returning production- Again, kind of a push, but Purdue has Bell at WR, whereas we have no one proven at the skill positions. We do have a big advantage at OL, which could be the X-factor for us.
Defense- Also kind of a push. Both defenses were bad last year, but Purdue’s was missing their best player. I think the single most important factor in this game will be whether or not the defense is as improved as the observers say it is. Purdue has 3 co-DC’s, whereas we have everyone playing the same system they’ve played their whole careers.
Homefield advantage- We haven’t won a road game since November 2, 2019. Advantage: Purdue.
Ultimately, I think our offense will be good on the strength of the OL, but we don’t have playmakers. Hopefully someone steps up. Defensively, Tibesar has a lot to prove and I’m not going to make a prediction based just on good vibes out of camp. This game has the makings of a shootout, but Purdue seems to have better offensive weapons than we do.
Purdue 42 – OSU 34
Then again, maybe I’m just crazy. I picked against the consensus in well over half the games this week.
Our D isn’t that bad. No way we give up 42 to a mediocre team.
We gave up 46 to a mediocre team the last time we played
But our D is better.
Offenses generally aren’t great coming right out the gate as they’re stilling working out the kinks. I’m sticking with 28-23 beavers.
Good point
Purdue had a bad defense last year and has a new d-coord commitee. I think you have to give that edge to the beavs. QB for purdue is not mobile which also helps. 27-17 Beavs.
Let’s hear more predictions. Everyone put something in writing.
By the way, it looks like that rhubarb I transplanted a few days ago is already developing greens. What’s interesting is they grew out of one of the short, red stalks (damaged while transplanting, no less). The stalk turned into a leaf that looks a lot like baby lettuce. Pretty interesting. The roots on it also got chopped in half and damaged while digging up the plant, and apparently even that can’t stop rhubarb. Conclusion: Rhubarb is a fighter, new respect.
Or Rhubarb is a stalker?
Now you’re getting to the root of the matter.
Beavs: 100
Beer Cocktails: 3
Overly optimistic?
Being a member of the hemp/sisal family, it’s tough to kill rhubarb even when you want to. Delicious when mixed with strawberries in a pie.
What is the deal with that family? Why are they so hearty??
That’s my longest continuous live plant I own (other then trees). If you leave it in one spot it just keeps growing a giant mass of a root. In my experience after 2 or 3 years you’ll need to dig it up and break the root up into smaller pieces as it seems to get smaller shoots the bigger the mass gets. The one in my garden is around 15 years old, it’s a broken piece from my father’s rhubarb when I first started my own.
And straight rhubard pie is pretty darn good.
Fascinating.
The prior owners planted it in 2016. When I dug it up, I just keep going deeper and deeper. I must have been 4ft down, and still I was finding roots…I doubt I got them all out, so it’s possible even that one grows back. I left the hole uncovered so it dries out. I am hoping that stops that madness.
I felt bad digging it up. But it sounds like this will have a good ending.
https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/pork-tenderloin-with-spiced-rhubarb-chutney-1759
I grew up harvesting rhubarb from a plant behind my grandparents garden shed that had been there in excess of 50 years. My mom would strip the tough outside material, cut it up into chunks and portion it into freezer bags for later use. One of our favorite desserts when I was a kid was rhubarb-infused applesauce. Awesome!
50 years!? These things are basically trees. Was the taste still good?
I’ve used it to make rhubarb crisp and homemade jam. Both were fantastic. Didn’t add any apples or strawberry to it, but that sounds great. Maybe next year if this guy does indeed grow.
Finally, some hot rhubarb talk!
I love it, and use it as a focal point in my front yard landscaping. I have 4 huge plants that look cool…and are tasty!
Straight rhubarb pie, or rhubarb sauce is the bomb!
Rhubarb sauce? Tell me more…
Rhubarb
Dry tapioca
sugar to taste (or other sweetener)
a splash of water
Put in a covered pot.
Stovetop on lowest setting, stir occasionally. Cook 1 hour or until rhubarb is reduced.
This is unbelievable on vanilla bean ice cream!
The Belligerant Beavs guys had a podcast guest last week where they talked to a writer for the Purdue SB Nation affiliate. Sounds like Purdue has gone about fixing their defense this year by bringing in several Juco players, in addition to a chamging of the guard at DC. (They cut Bob Diaco who just hasnt recovered from his short stint at Nebraska with Riley)
Also sounds like they brought in a bruiser type RB to replace the loss of Rondale Moore. Where Moore was used as a receiver much of the time, this guy sounds like he’ll be more of a steady move the chains type guy who could cause problems for our DL.
I just cant pick the Beavs for a win on the road if I’m being unbiased. Especially with all of these injuries on the DL(Schadd/Hodgins/Lolohea) and in the secondary(Julian/Jones/Robinson) I’m going with a loss and the Beavs coming back to Corvallis licking their wounds. Hope I’m wrong and instead this is the start of a 3 win non-con stretch.
That’s very likely given the injuries. I think if healthy we’d win this game. Now no clue, and my pick is totally biased. I’ll be less biased after week 1 when I see us play.
I think they had that RB last year and a boiler fan said he’s not very impressive. Said he’d get a 100 because defenses would give it to him to cover their spread passing game and that he wouldn’t beat you. I also thought moore was a WR. Bell is really the main guy on offense. Karleftis on D. Usually it seems to take JC guys a few games to adjust to the D1 level from what I’ve seen so hopefully that’s the case. All of the DCs could be a too many cooks in the kitchen scenario which would cause some cohesiveness problems.
Beavs on the road for a season opener? Historically its been pretty ugly. If the beavs run the ball with any consistency as in 150+ yards then I like they’re chances. If not, with our depleted secondary Purdue is going to have succes throwing the ball. In coach M I trust.
Beavs 27-21.
Orange-colored glasses are fully activated. Beavers win 34-28 based on the few key points that may be overlooked:
1. Time of possession. Our OL allows our RB’s to churn out 4-5 yard gains on a consistent basis. This allows our QB to hit relatively easy PA passes to our TE to move the chains. Also, the running game neutralizes their vaunted pass rusher, Karlafkis (sp?). 10+ play scoring drives makes Purdue go for the big play one too many times on offense.
2. Defense performs better than expected. Tibs is a B10 guy, spending years at Wisconsin. He uses his network with other coaches to put together a great playcalling scheme against Purdue.
34-21 Beavs.
Move the chains, sustain five minute drives, score on 6 out of 8 drives, Beavs get the W.
Beavs get 31-35points, Purdue 21-27.
Colleto & Noyer each w/a short yardage rushing TD.
I need to burn an offering of cottonwood chips before I could identify rbs/receivers that score…
36-31 Purdue… Purdue gains 250+ on the ground.
No way!
31-24 flip a coin
35-28 Beavs. I think the defense will surprise people in holding off Purdue in key situations. I think the committee approach will turn out well for the run game and if the WRs are able to get open quick and also if we can execute on some deep passes to our faster guys I see this game in our favor. We will probably be close to choking in the end but scarcely pull it off.
If MBB can make the Elite 8, anything is possible.
Beavs 24 – 21
Now you’re talking!!
Beavs to the CFP!!
I haven’t been following as closely as years past. My prediction is Purdue 34-22… just based on the OSU tradition of starting out the season slow.
28-23 beavers. The beavers make fewer mistakes than Purdue and Noyer efficiently manages the game. It’s not pretty by anyone’s standards but a win is a win and the beavers defense gets some key turnovers down the stretch..
38-17 Beavers win. Time to turn the corner and Purdue is no Oregon…
Wow someone more confident than me! Proud of you Alpha!
I’ll go 38-31 Beavs!
I think the Oline will make the offense look good and Smith and Lindgren come out with an aggressive gameplan and the inexperienced JC guys are lost. Wright has his coming out party and the defense gets a couple of turnovers. The highly anticipated Gumbs is a difference maker. This team just needs to avoid penalties and turnovers and they win. Also special teams play needs to be better than it has in the past.
Is Gumbs healthy enough to start, or is he expected to get spot duty?
All the depth charts have had him as a “backup,” but in the rotation
Scratch that, he’s a co-starter in the new one
Noyer starting week 1
There’s an interesting philosophical matchup here between ideas about how you improve a subpar unit. Both teams had bad defenses last season and took radically different approaches to improving:
Oregon State- all about continuity. Same coaches, mostly the same players. Just keep working on the same stuff (which was maybe improving at the end of last season?)
Purdue- THREE new OC’s and a bunch of JC transfers.
It will be interesting to see which theory prevails.
Three new “DCs”…. : )
Continuity and improved strength and conditioning prevail.
Sounds like most of the defense injuries are improving. Only Robinson ruled out completely.
Defense injury update per depth chart:
Alex Austin OR Elijah Jones is CB2
Julian is starting S
Gumbs OR Sharp is starting OLB
Sio is starting DT
Lolohea #2 DE behind Sandberg
Schad #2 DE behind Anderson (OR Rawls OR Shippen)
That defensive depth chart looks good, I feel much better about the Beav’s chances now !
Waiiit what? Sio is starting over Skelton! He must really be picking things up!
Good to hear alot of guys who have been sitting are back. The Dam Podcast was making it sound like all sorts of guys would be out at multiple positions, but most of those guys are back according to this depth chart.
Will it be enough to make me flip my prediction to a Beaver win????
Sure, why not. Noyer should be a slow and steady guy, and we have the talent to hang with Purdue. I’ll go with Beavs by 4.
Omar Speight is my player of the game, forcing 2 fumbles.
A few more notables:
KR is Champ OR Irish
2 starting TE’s (TQ and Musgrave)
X WR is Beason OR Champ
https://twitter.com/JMininsohn/status/1432417957255127046/photo/1
Nice to see Musgrave on there. Has TQ practiced at all? Weird Harrison is so low. That makes no sense. Would rather see Fenwick (over a 5ypc avg in sec) start over Baylor (more suited as a 3rd down back).
Per Carter: Addison Gumbs, Elijah Jones may return from injury, join starting lineup
The RB’s were a three-headed OR, so I’m sure we’ll see a little of all of them.
Harrison was also an OR, so technically #2 with Bolden.
TQ has been doing lots of light work and blocking drills. This is is 4th offseason with the team and under the same system so he can probably afford to take it easy and come in healthy.
Don’t like Champ as a starter.
Another notable injury that affected the 2-deep is John McCartan. Starters there are still solid but I’ve always liked him.
So a few depth chart surprises:
1. Big Sio starting
2. Rawls not beating out Anderson despite allegedly being up to 292
3. Gumbs starting
4. Elijah Jones healthy and in the the 2 deep at CB
5. Oldapo and Julian starting at safety (love this) Akili can play as well but is probably a year away from being entirely there physically
6. Harrison must be being hidden at WR and will then be unleashed to make big plays
Sio is my dark horse Defensive MVP candidate
From what I’ve read, Sio is a gym room beast. If he can translate that strength to the field coupled with some technique and conditioning, he could be an exciting player.
I think its a good choice. He has all the physical traits you could ask for at the position and its probably the least complicated position on the line to learn. Theres very few reads he needs to make. His job is to push two dudes into the dirt and if he can grab a rb. If he manages to land on a QB they might explode.
He also played DT in high school so he didn’t come in completely raw. I’m sure that past experience helped expedite his learning curve at this level. His biggest thing to control will
Be gap integrity if he can be counted on to fill an a or b gap consistently without getting blown out wide or worse even back his contribution will be immeasurable. Have to be Gap sound up
Front to stop the run consistently.
One misnomer I see thrown around far too much is hoping a DT/ NT can “command a double team” . In zone read schemes (which makeup the majority of college running games these days ) the nose tackle or whoever lines up in the a gap is frequently double teamed regardless of how good or shitty they might be. Especially against a 3 man front. So Sio’s job a lot of times will be to defeat the double team by staying in his gap and giving the RB one less free gap to read on inside zone plays. Any havoc he causes in the backfield will be gravy. I know some folks here and elsewhere said he can move for his size so looking forward to see if that translates on Saturday’s.
Yup! Warranting a double is a much bigger deal for pass rush. In the system we run you essentially have 5 linemen vs 5 rushers. There can be blitz and RB/TE can be held back but both of those affect the time a qb has and the options down field. If the NT can consistently take up 2 blockers then the defenses coverage options and rush become far more effective.
I just don’t get to worried about the line or EDGE starter. We have tons of guys with experience and different rotations may play better with each other. Were going to see about 16 guys in rotation in the 3 DL and 2 EDGE positions this year. If that means are guys aren’t dragging ass for the entire 2nd quarter I’m all for it.
Jones and Julian playing is huge and has me confident in a win. Baylor at RB is weak…hoping that’s just a courtesy and Fenwick gets the majority of the carries. Baylor is a nice player as a 3rd down back, but I don’t see how he’s an every down back. Seems too lean to take the hits.
You’re not reading RB correctly. Fenwick, Baylor and Lowe are all OR’s. There isn’t just one starter.
My bad.
In that case, hope Fenwick starts and Baylor is the 3rd down back. That’s a really nice combo with complimenting skill sets that way.
I’m gonna throw it out there and say Lowe becomes the star, with Fenwick as the ground and pound. Lowe should be very good if he can stay healthy and confident
I agree, I think if Lindgren game plans toward Lowe’s strengths he could blow the top off.
Leave the 2 yards and a cloud of dust plays for Fenwick.
Gebbia out of the mix because of injury, not performance.
Tristan Gebbia, who was firmly in the mix of this QB battle before suffering an injury before the final scrimmage, isn’t fully healthy and Smith said that the team will be looking to take it slow with him with the hope that he’ll be back to 100% at some point here soon.
“We want to give him time to get as close to healthy and 100% as possible. We feel like the best avenue is to continue to take it week by week, limit his reps, and see where it goes from there.”
How about Lindsey? I had him as a darkhorse who could make a move in camp. He did exactly that. Sounds like he’s having a great camp and turned the page on his issues. Could be huge if he’s reached his potential now. He was really special in HS.
I’m hopeful that that’s the case too…but to play devil’s advocate, I’m concerned that no one has really stepped up and separated, so the depth chart is mostly using seniority as the tiebreaker. Hope I’m wrong. Champ’s inclusion makes me nervous that that’s the case. Hope I’m wrong.
Lindsey had 3TDs in the final two games last year (Stanford and ASU, I believe), and by all accounts has been standing out in camp. Doubt it is seniority. He likely just had a continuation of whatever clicked for him end of last year.
Always been a big fan. His HS tape is unreal.
He’s starting according to Daschel what are you guys seeing? Beason Bradford, Lindsay depending on formation.
Depth chart says Beason OR Champ, plus Bradford and Lindsay.
I wonder if the wr grouping is a bit a casualty of not picking a QB and with so many wr in the mix it is hard to stand out. There is a fine line between competition and continuity.
Jones limited in practice all week. Sounds like it’s more accurate to say that he could play in the game but won’t start.
You notice the size of our DB’s? Only Arnold is below 6’0 in height on the two deep. Pretty cool if Jones is available to play, certainly helps a bit for secondary depth.
This matches up with what Smith said about recruiting strategy in his 2nd or 3rd interview at OSU. He wanted length and athleticism on the edges (DBs, EDGE AND DE) to limit the qbs angles and field of view and allow for more aggressive play.
OSU leads the series vs Purdue 1-0 with a 22-14 victory in 1967. That was a road game as well, and Purdue was ranked #2 in the Nation at the time.
I think Purdue has the edge. Really would like to see a Beav victory but my hopes are very much in check for a hard fought loss. 35-28 Purdue win. Hope I am wrong
2nd time the Giant Killers team has come up in the last 24 hours on here
We’re all just desperately missing the Wing T offense
Wing T?………..that’s my line, buddy!

I guess if he throws a kick at least he can tackle!
Pick*
Preseason “Hope Springs Eternal Fearless Prediction”:
Beavs defense, esp Sio shock Purdue with physical play in 1st quarter and create a lot of pressure in the backfield, Purdue changes gameplan and holds TE for pass protect, taking away their best advantage of TE drag routes etc.
Beavs offense scores on opening drive and gets the lead early, Purdue playing catch up the rest of the way, leads to more passing attempts and more sacks, as well as 2 ints.
Purdue qb is more of a classic drop-back rather than a running/scrambler, collapse the pocket and he will not escape as we’ve seen others do. Beavs will have contain, qb pressure, downfield coverage all lead to a dreadful day for Plummer. Plummer will be seeing linebackers incoming all day…
Beavs offense stays very balanced and the run game settles in to control clock and hit on big play action downfield a few times.
Offensive MVP: Beason/Lowe
Defensive MVP: Gumbs/Sio
Beavs roll to a convincing 45-20 win and serve notice that JS and Beavs have turned the corner.
This team has depth, talent, experience, discipline, aggressiveness, athleticism. This will be the year.
Lots of good stuff there ohio, my take is just a bit different.
Purdue QB does a bit of scrambling, converts a couple 3rd downs and only throws a single pick, but a critical one.
One JS gamble fails, leading to 6 for Purdue.
Offensive MVP: Beason/Baylor
Defensive MVP: Roberts/Colletto…………honorable mention TIBS
After a tight first half, Beavs control the clock to win 38-28
Yes, this will be the year.
Catching up on the Scott Frost drama in Nebraska.
Current rumor is that Frost’s wife is leaving him after he knocked up some younger girl. And that he’s hitting the booze hard. Sounds like they have themselves a Gary Andersen.
Today he’s begging Nebraska fans to show up to their home game this week because their sellout streak is on the line and they’re playing FCS Fodham out of the Patriot League. Those poor bastards didnt realize how good they had it with Riley, lol.
Hahahahaha. Is becoming a college coach a front for being a quasi-pedo? Access to hot, young tang seems to be the objective, many times, more than winning games.
His press conferences are getting so sad. So many abstract excuses, boilerplate coach-speak, and non-answers. Never takes responsibility and throws players under the bus. Seems depressed. GA like blowup seems plausible.
Actually claimed that ILL coming out in an odd-front on defense was just sooooooo confusing to them and they couldn’t figure out what to do.
Poor bastards. If they’d let Mike stay they’d prolly be heading to their 3rd Las Vegas Bowl.
Latest Smith:
Interesting comment about the receiver depth and how they’re finding ways to use lots of guys strengths.
Also, 3 TE set!
Noticed Jefferson HS head coach (and former Beav) Pat Strickland has stepped down. He’s only 51 years old.
Makes me think there’s a college team looking to bring him in as an “advisor” or “liason” so they can snatch up some quick talent from the Demos.
https://scorebooklive.com/oregon/2021/08/30/it-has-truly-been-legendary-pat-strickland-steps-down-after-13-seasons-as-head-coach-of-jefferson-boys-basketball-program/
This is pretty crazy. Some fake football team from a fake charter school in Ohio convinced ESPN they were legit and had their game broadcast on ESPN vs IMG Academy. Their roster was made up of JUCO dropouts and apparently they also looked the part. They told ESPN they had multiple athletes being recruited by D1 programs but ESPN never bothered to verify anything. They also had played a game just 3 days earlier.
They lost the IMG game something like 50-0.
https://twitter.com/awfulannouncing/status/1432414083475673091?s=19
Haha. That’s amazing.
Trolling media or journalists who don’t do due diligence should be encouraged haha
My favorite Twitter joke about it: “Yeah, you don’t know her. She goes to Bishop Sycamore.”
Wow
What kind of quickness, acceleration, and speed does Lowe have? Is he like James Rodgers acceleration? Quicker? Higher top end speed?
What previous beaver WR or RB might be a good comparison?
I don’t know if he’s as quick and can accelerate as fast but I think he has high top end speed but not positive about that.
Looks like an 11.04 100M in HS…wasn’t James Rodgers in the low 10s?
10.3 hand time (holy shit)
He tied with Gould for fastest 40 time during the Beaver Combine last year
https://twitter.com/BeaverFootball/status/1234297469262909441?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Eembeddedtimeline%7Ctwgr%5EeyJ0ZndfZXhwZXJpbWVudHNfY29va2llX2V4cGlyYXRpb24iOnsiYnVja2V0IjoxMjA5NjAwLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X2hvcml6b25fdHdlZXRfZW1iZWRfOTU1NSI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJodGUiLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X3NwYWNlX2NhcmQiOnsiYnVja2V0Ijoib2ZmIiwidmVyc2lvbiI6bnVsbH19%7Ctwcon%5Etimelinechrome&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2F247sports.com%2FPlayer%2FTrey-Lowe-94365%2Fhigh-school-180335%2F
How is champ that fast? Does he lose a ton of speed with pads on?
Champs pads are 25% of his total weight.
Honestly, Paul Lucas is probably the best comparison in terms of size and speed (not that that’s a flattering comparison from a production standpoint).
Isn’t he like 20lbs heavier than lucas? And lucas had to have ran faster than an 11 sec 100 because wasn’t he a track champion in high school and then ran track at ASU?
Early game day forecast 78 degrees, 65% humidity, partly cloudy, 24% chance of rain.
Similar to Corvallis, bit more humid. Shouldn’t impact the game?
That temp in the upper 70s shouldn’t be too bad in terms of humidity increasing the heat index. If it was In the upper 80s then it might interesting but overall they should be fine.
Source: been living in Atlanta, GA and have learned a lot about humidity over the past 5 years.
Anyone know if there is supposed to be very many fans in the stadium? I just realized that neither qb have played in front of fans. I don’t know how loud Purdue’s stadium gets but could be a slight factor. Naming Noyer starter at the beginning of the week should get Noyer some much needed reps and familiarity with the system and gameplan as well as get his timing down with the receivers. I feel good about the talent that will be around him and should help him be successful. Lindgren should be familiar with his skill set and put him in a position to succeed.
Didn’t OSU sign the top FB in the nation last year or the year before? I wonder if we’ll see any use of the FB in the offense this season?
I was wondering about Horton, too. His name hasn’t come up at all, so maybe the coaches have decided he isn’t ready to see game time yet. Walk-ons don’t usually have plays designed just for them.
Seems like TQ would take that role, for now. A 12 personnel can easily be shifted into a strong- or weak-I formation with the blocking TE’s we have.
And yes and no FBs are usually a lot stockier in build so they have a low center of gravity for being a lead blocker as opposed to Teagan at 6’6.
Ya but FBs are like K, P, and LS where they aren’t awarded scholarships at first but doesn’t mean they don’t play.
Indiana is a bright Red state .. they are expecting a sell

If only they would adopt draconian mandates like Oregon, New York and Israel they wouldn’t have those huge spikes… FoLloW tEh scIeNcE.
Stop being irresponsible. Lack of masking, vaccinations and social irresponsibility has been shown to be associated with higher cases, higher hospitalizations and higher deaths. Grow up
As of August 15th, 97.6% of 2021 Covid cases in Indiana have come from unvaccinated people – along with 98.6% of hospitalizations. Saw this on the KPG News website out of Indiana that was quoting State Health Dept stats.
Lack of awareness on the unvaccinated to refrain from gathering in large groups of people is causing serious spikes in hospitalizations and ICU overfills.
Lack of awareness on the vaccinated to self-isolate for 3 weeks after getting the first shot is resulting in the formation of immune-escape variants (4, in particular).
Everybody has a part to play to end this pandemic.
Another big problem: people get the vaccine and think it’s total immunity and they can go back to pre-covid behavior.
There are lots of problems with current human behavior, and the virus is loving them.
America is unique in the shear number of people who refuse to follow instructions on the use of a product.

To keep this topic within one subthread…
If you’re hesitant about taking a vaccine, or if you doubt the efficacy of the vaccines, Pfizer suggests that their antiviral (currently in phase 2/3) may be effective in treating symptoms. Rumors say that it could be available by November.
https://www.phillyvoice.com/covid-19-pfizer-pill-antiviral-treatment-symptoms-medication-tamiflu/
Pfizer’s stock may be one to watch in the coming weeks if you’re looking at making a good profit, too.
I’ll grow up as soon as you can explain your dark blue Nazi states skyrocketing Rona numbers.
The most socially irresponsible are the jabbed that think they can do whatever the fuck they want, while simultaneously catching and spreading C-19 like a bunch of fucking outbreak monkeys.
You’ll also notice the lazy ass big box stores have completely stopped cleaning anything, while the mouth breathing-wear-a-mask-in-your-car-while-driving-alone crowd walks right past the complimentary hand sanitizer after finger fucking the shopping carts and ATM pads and door handles. I know you follow Fauci the corrupt leprechaun like he’s the pied fucking piper but maybe do 10 seconds of your own research on how long C-19 can live on hard non porous surfaces before you layer up 5 more masks and think you’re safe.
In Oregon the case rates are higher in red counties/regions. Vaccinated people are less likely to get Covid and spread it, and the virus isn’t getting spread by way of surfaces. Otherwise your post is a home run.
“Vaccinated people are less likely to get Covid and spread it”
https://www.oregonlive.com/coronavirus/2021/08/theres-growing-concern-vaccinated-people-may-be-more-vulnerable-to-covid-19-than-previously-thought.html
Other than that your post was a home run….
Pretty sure you follow fauci more than I do. I just follow CDC recommendations. I don’t have to hero worship individuals to feel valid.
Just the idea that your personal maturity growth is based on someone on the internet fact checking you is insane.
Oregon’s numbers were driven up by dropping masking dipshit. This conversation was about you hating mask mandates. Oregon is 47th lowest death per 100k and the other ‘nazi deep blue state’ Washington is 45th. The policies have worked and saved lives.
The cheapest tickets to see Oregon State football this season on seatgeek is the Purdue game. Even the Idaho game is more expensive. If it’s a sellout, they’re still going to have alot of empty seats.
Purdue 35-17
Canzano is saying the Purdue SID up and quit this week and is speculating there’s turmoil within the Purdue program.
Also, this is the most recent tweet from their now former SID. He doesnt seem to upset with leaving.

Sounds like he’s going to be drinking a few boilermakers this weekend.
If anybody else wants to join the PickEm pool, you have a couple more days. First game is Thursday.

Looking forward to it!
Wow, angry has turned into a complete homer. Pretty sure he picked beavs in every game last year and continues the streak here.
More things have to go right for the beavs than Purdue to win the game.
Big questions remain,
How fast can Noyer get into the offense. Coming in so late in the summer could limit how much of the playbook he is comfortable with.
Which running back takes hold of the job?
Defensive line is the weakest defensive position and the most critical to the success of the defense. Sio was basically a less than zero star recruit. Big and slow with only one offer. Disappointed to see Shippen not start. Top jc transfer and he’s barely played at all.
Starting CBs are relatively inexperienced. None have any picks. Austin is the only one who recorded a pass breakup.
The offense should move the ball on the ground with the experience on the oline. Noyer doesn’t need to air it out, but he accurate on the short and intermediate passes to move the chains.
Defense needs to be creative on how they attack the blocking schemes. Won’t win a fight in the trenches for an entire game. Should see linebackers blitzing more. Will need to force the qb into quick decisions to save the dbs from covering for too long.
Vegas seems to have the right line at -7 for Purdue. Road game with question marks at qb.
Beavs win if they can run the ball and own the time of possession by a lot. Defense as a whole is still very suspect even with good individual players. Should have fired tibs last year. Road game is a tough way to start a season. A win here would be huge for the season and program trajectory. It would show smith has really turned a corner.
Sio is certainly big, but I don’t think he’s slow. At least not for his size. At the spring game this year they did a bunch of one-on-one matchups and he dominated. Looked very agile to me, almost freakishly so.
Time will tell but I think he could be a real difference-maker.
Yeah, Sio was repeatedly called out by media as a top DL performer. If our OL really is that good, that means Sio is pretty good, too.
In some of the video they made from scrimmage he decimated Eldridge.
He’s a PWO from Alaska that didn’t camp is why he wasn’t rated not because of talent. He screams diamond in the rough. Has D1 size and strength. We’ll have to wait and see if he’s legit but I think his biggest hurdles will be learning the position and being in good enough condition to stay on the field and make a difference.
Keep in mind he played DT in high school so the learning curve is not as steep.
https://www.hudl.com/video/3/8010995/5bcf5ccb3452e70d4089ca11
And yea you see him get out and run in space and chase backs laterally here and it’s clear he can move around a bit. Granted these kids in Alaska are probably slower than what we are used to seeing in HS but still he’s running with dudes who are 170-200 pounds and sometimes passing them up.
Alaska had some damn good athletes
Your questions are good ones, but to be fair in evaluating the Beavers chances, you should speculate on Purdue’s questions as well. For example:
Their defense last year was equally generous to passing and rushing. How will they perform in an opening contest with 3 new defensive coordinators and JC transfers on the field?
Do they have any significant offensive threats besides Bell? If not, can he at least be limited by scheme?
Can a porous Purdue D handle a diverse – if unproven – OSU RB-by-committee approach? Plus QB Colletto in short yardage situations?
Can the Purdue O handle the depth of OSU LBs? If OSU’s D line can’t take up blockers, maybe they can, but there’s a lot of LB depth to contend with.
It should be a competitive, hopefully entertaining game. I’d really appreciate it if OSU came out and played clean in terms of penalties, and executed well. That would say a lot about how serious they took their prep.
I think Smith and staff, with continuity and a healthy roster are > Brohm and new coaches.
Plus, “4 pm PST” start time” How great is that? If this was a noon start time and “felt” like 9 am to the Beavers, I could understand them being off. But this is like prime time.
Trivia question – when was the last time the beavs beat a current power 5 opponent on the road?
At Arizona in 2019
Sorry I mean non conference opponent
Yikes, considering we only rarely play non conference P5 teams on the road maybe once every 2 years, and we never win them, you’d probably have to go way back.
Do bowl games count?
We beat Maryland in 2007
Purdue, in 1967?!?
But seriously, while I’m sure the history is poor in that regard, it has to end at some point. Might be this Saturday.
@ Minnesota in 1978, Beavs won 17-14
That’s the one! Prior to that they beat Oklahoma on to road in 1970 and beat Iowa in 1969.
My Dad started playing for them in 71’ and they never recovered.
LSU 2004 was the closest we got after that.
Ouch, in 1987 we played both Georgia and Texas as OOC opponents.
Well obviously that translates to this staff and players not being able to do it. Lol
OT: NFL does a reversal on its anti-gambling stance, announcing that FOX Bet, BetMGM, PointsBet and WynnBET became approved sportsbook operators for the 2021 NFL season.
Not expecting much in the way of Official visits for the Hawaii home opener Sept 11th. We should have some unofficial visitors though.
Bad day for NFL beavs so far- Nall, Pierce, Hamilcar, and V Bolden all cut.
At least Jefferson seems to be killing it in camp. Tough depth chart but from what I’ve read he’s blown past his competition and locked in the #3 spot. Since Swift is banged up, he actually has a shot to start week 1 (Williams, while talented, is more of a 3rd down / CoP back).
JJ had a nice hurdle in their last game
Wow I didn’t expect both Nall and Pierce to get cut, I’d read that they were the two battling for the final RB spot.
Add Togaiai, Hodgins, and Luton to the list. 6 ex-Beavs cut today.
*7
I am curious to know how many were unvaccinated. Pretty sure Luton was unvaccinated. Urban Meyer took that into consideration with his cuts. I wouldn’t be surprised if other teams did the same.
That’s an interesting point. Luton was actually the one that surprised me the most from that list – may well have been a factor.
Yes its best to cut the unclean.
It’s a business. They can make whatever standards they want with personnel outside of protected classes.
Hamilcar should have never left
Beavs win the turnover battle, they limit their administrative penalties like false starts, holding, delay of game, etc; and they make the necessary halftime adjustments to slow down the Purdue offense in a shootout. Our RB by committee will need to be handled better than it was last year. They rotated too much for any one guy to get into a good rhythm.
I just looked over the roster again and I noticed our punters are the holders for field goals. I don’t know why, but this intrigues me a bit.
Beavs win a close one 34-31
Fake FG punt?
I was thinking the exact same thing, but didn’t want to put something that seemed “far fetched”. Also, it’s better than punting on 3rd down when they least expect it. lol
Are you serious? Jermar took most of the Carrie’s and got into a great rhythm in just about every game he was healthy. In fact he was dominant when healrhy.
He’s doing pretty good in Detroit too.
Yes, Jermar did get into a rhythm because he took majority of the carries. What I am saying is, they tried rotating in BJ Baylor and Calvin Tyler Jr. into the mix while he was injured. So my main point is, we need either a reliable back like we did with Jermar or we need a RB by committee. When they rotated guys in, it was usually after a long gain or after a series. What needs to happen is having a “first series” approach to work the backs into getting into rhythm. Not saying the same plays, but say when Deshaun Fenwick comes in for BJ Baylor, it has to be handled like a “new first series” versus keeping the same plays going as if BJ was in the game, especially if BJ is in rhythm.
JS made it sound like they had different plays for different RB’s
Was just reading Ohio State’s QB has signed a 3 year NIL deal with a sports marketing firm worth $1.4m to “sign autographs”
These initial deals are guesses at valuation. Wonder how much is tied to performance. If he doesn’t start for a couple years or transfers, does it affect his deal?
Hard to see how a company will make money on a person who hasn’t even played. Or maybe it’s a loss leader to attract the bigger names.
Shouldn’t really affect the beavs unless they start contending year after year and getting into more doors. Most beavs could get a few hundred to few thousand on local marketing.
Agree. What happens if a player is dismissed for sexual assault. Then what? There’s going to be some bad situations where players end up broke and owing companies for failing to fulfill duties. Also, agents/marketing companies taking advantage of athletes. Happens at the professional level all the time.
Welcome to adulthood and professional business relationships.
People make poor business choices all the time. See “Nebraska” and “Scott Frost.”
Or Nebraska and all their coaching hires since they ran solich out of town.
It’s week one. It will come down to special teams. Hope the Beavers STs are decent.
Gotta love the Rev. 40hrs after writing this, Luton gets cut. Lol.

Luton didn’t suddenly overachieve. Most can’t identify what a competent QB looks like on a mediocre team.
I guess Urban Meyer can’t identify a competent QB.
Careful. Urban hasn’t done anything yet other than being in Tebow. No proof he can identify nfl talent. Any of his Ohio state qbs do much?
I’m of the opinion Urban is gonna flop in the NFL. Although Trevor Lawrence does look legit so maybe he gets by on talent alone despite him stepping all over his own feet.
When they cut Minshew, I thought they’d hang on to Luton. He looked decent for a QB3 versus Dallas.
Jaguars only have two QBs on the roster.
It has to do with his vaccination status not performance:
”Everyone was considered; that was part of the production and also (if) was he vaccinated or not,” Meyer said. ”To say that was a decision-maker, it certainly was under consideration.”
Could be a small factor because as a HC you don’t want a guy with 2TDs, 6INTS, and a 39QBR infecting your entire roster.
His contract is also very overvalued. There’s cheaper qbs all over who can do fine as a backup. If you have qbs issues you could also throw them in IR and bring Luton right back if no one picks him up.
Yeah I agree – I thought Luton was the most surprising cut of the day. He’d had a nice camp, and as mentioned they seemed to be tipping their hand by shipping Minshew away.
Makes sense I guess – as a backup QB your availability is absolutely paramount. If you’re not available in case of emergency than you add no value. Higher odds of contracting COVID and missing games would be extra unattractive in that role.
Which makes you wonder what the hell is going on in Jake Luton’s head to not be vaccinated???? Sheesh
How do we know Luton isn’t vaccinated? I might have missed something.
Yeah with the unvaccinated NFL player rules a tie is gonna always go to the vaccinated. Let’s be real 1000s of guys have the talent to be roster spot number 53… probably 10000s. Worth it to avoid the headache.
Luton should land somewhere, practice squad or otherwise, he played well in Preseason. Coming from a long-time hater.
He was atrocious last year, though. 2TD, 6INT, 39QBR.
Preseason means zero.
Most rookies don’t start at QB in the NFL, though. And he played on easily the worst team.
Probably his uncle
And less than 24 hours later Luton is signed to Seattle’s 53 man roster and Sean Mannion is cut.
Jets should pick up Hodgins.
Someone will. Injuries have held him back. Hopefully he can get healthy again.
It’s good that he’s off that roster too. Bills are just loaded at WR – needs to go somewhere where we can get a real shot at meaningful reps.
Did he get his degree? He needs to finish if not. While I think he could do great with the right opportunity, the league is full of bubble players and careers are short.
I imagine him at SEA or KC as affordable depth. Accurate QBs…..say Wilson is looking at Metcalf, then sees Hodgins turn around the #2 cornerback or nickleback and his hands are obviously good for the TD. Maybe not a lot of targets, but high productivity and efficiency to contribute meaningfully. Then the PT and opportunities will come. He could do that at NY with Wilson too.
For those who follow this stuff, #RevItUp23 is officially the #Trailblazer22 of the 2023 class for OSU.
Nemec seems pretty sure that Earby is gonna go to Cal.
So for those of you thinking that with pretty much the same personnel as last year the defense won’t improve against the run the starting DL will be 80lbs heavier than last year. Will it translate to the field? We’ll have to wait and see but I would think it would definitely help in being stout against the run. When you can stop the run without having to put extra guys in the box it in turn helps the pass defense. It could also positively effect the pass rush with more effective bull rushing and more players with the proper size and strength for the 3-4 so guys can stay fresh.
Agreed. Most of my enthusiasm is based on the gym work these guys put in. Our front 5 is P5 sized for the first time in like a decade.
We will see. I’ll always contend that unless you have 2 really bad ass d linemen you should not run an odd front. The only other team I root for and watch consistently is Bama thanks to family ties and to see them run the 3-4 is such a stark contrast to us and other teams attempting to do so without actual savages up front. Size / weight helps but it takes a certain level of explosiveness, high motor and get off to go with it to make a 3 man front successful.
You can’t just neutralize blockers you have to blow them up and create havoc in order to keep gap integrity and allow your LB’s to quickly diagnose and play down hill. Key thing to watch Saturday and beyond.
At this point, the majority of college teams are running a 3-4 to combat the spread. There’s definitely a middle ground between being Alabama and being bottom quartile like we have been every year so far under Tibesar. Hopefully we attain that middle ground this year.
Plenty of good teams/programs still in 4-3. Clemson probably chief among them. The NFL is also still slightly majority 4-3 which would offer a distinct recruiting advantage to attract more high caliber front 4 players. I’d like to see a more dynamic personnel driven approach for us at least. Tailor your front alignment to the personnel on hand. The past several years and even this year unless Sio turns into a beast.. we do not have the personnel up front to run an odd front. So be adaptive. That’s what spring ball and fall camp are for.
Wilner likes our QBs.

Mannion released by the Seahawks, replaced by Jake Luton! What a weird world.
I mean Luton does have more starts in the NFL than Mannion and more TD passes.
Where is Matt Moore? Still on the Chiefs roster?
I’m not even sure MM was in camp this year.
Current Beavs on active NFL rosters-
QB: Luton
RB: Jefferson
WR: Cooks
TE: none
OL: Seumalo, J Andrews, Remmers, Brandel (surprising number of guys for how generally poorly our O-line has played over the last 10 years)
DL: Peko (on IR and might be cut afterward)
LB: none
DB: Poyer, S Nelson, Wright, Dunn (this is a pretty impressive group)
ST: Hekker
I would say more surprising is the amount of DBs for how poorly they’ve performed. The last 5 years the rush offense has been pretty decent to very good. Pass defense not so much but seems like they usually have 1 good corner tho.
Looks like some of the released Beavs ended up signing practice squad contracts with their teams like Nall, Pierce, Rashad Jr, and Hodgins. I saw where the Viks may bring Mannion back for some reason.
Linebacker U?
Daschel, in an interview with Purdue scribe spills the beans on Colletto. Says, “he can’t be stopped”.
At about 17:30 mentions that the Beavs SpTms coach is, “kinda creative”.
https://soundcloud.com/boilersxtra
Daschel sounds like he hates having to cover the Beavs. It was refreshing to hear the other guy who was critical of Purdue without sounding defeatist.
Here is a breakdown of our offense vs. Their defense. I think this looks encouraging for a win but it will be interesting to see our defense vs. Their offense.
https://247sports.com/college/oregon-state/LongFormArticle/Oregon-State-Beavers-football-2021-matchup-preview-offense-vs-Purdue-Boilermakers-defense-169958509/#169958509_6
ESPN’s projection model predicts 37-29 Purdue and gives Purdue a 68% chance of winning.
Ya Angie put that up for all of the games earlier in the year. Surprisingly that’s one of lowest probabilities for a win on the whole year. I dont see it that way.
When was the last time beavs won the season opener? Honestly I don’t remember
2015 vs weber st. Vs p5, 2012 vs Wisconsin.
Thanks
Purdue leads the country in the past twenty years ago or so in lowest winning % when they were favored to win..i just saw the a few days ago on ESPN when they were doing a kickoff special on CFB.
MAGA is getting stronger. “Texas Abortion Ban Allowed by Supreme Court in Huge Blow to Roe v. Wade.” Their MAGA is actually ratting on women they suspect might be getting abortions. Sounds a lot like Nazi Germany. They wonder why everyone thinks they’re fascists.
More tribalism
Their head’s are so far up their asses they can lick their nostrils clean.
Indeed, but so is calling people Nazi’s. In fact, they call people on the other side of the argument Nazi’s, so everyone is calling each other a Nazi.
Call them out for what they are: religious zealots
Tattle tailing to the government is Nazi, though. I am calling them what they are.
I mean, it’s not just unique to the Nazi’s. It’s been happening for centuries.
I knew someone who grew up in the Soviet Union and she told me that the best way to get rid of an annoying neighbor is to allege that they were talking bad about the CCCP. They’d be gone that night.
Hell, during the 50’s, if people thought you were gay, they could report you to the US federal government, and the fed’s would blackmail you into doing anything
Yeah far right (Nazi) and far left (Soviet) converge in a lot of ways – this is one of them.
As far as tattle tailing to the govt – that was a big thing here last Thanksgiving, when in-person gatherings were banned. Lots of people met anyway, and lots of neighbors ratted them out.
Like Gold Addict says- root cause is tribalism and it’s not unique to either party. And it’s a feedback cycle where bad behavior on one side spurs bad behavior on the other,
Anyone see jade Carey throw the first pitch at the diamondbacks game the other night? Some front flip type move and then the toss to home. Pretty wild. Hurt my back watching it.
Wayne Tinkle threw out the first pitch sometime in the last week, Cubs or Sox I think….

Some new Sedge interviews up.
From yesterday.
Sept 1 is today, dude. “Posted 2hrs ago”…
I literally watched it yesterday dude. Today is defense.
Either you live in the future, or I’ll have what you’re smoking.
Dude do you not see the ones up with Roberts, Grant, and Tibs today? Oldbeav mentioned them below. Where are you looking pr getting them from?
Here’s the Sedge channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2uRaa7X0yUTq_at7QF2Txg
All posted 17hrs ago.
Wow, so Isiah Dunn made the Jets final cut, on the roster.
Some interesting notes: Avery Roberts doesn’t really notice crowds, doesn’t remember anything special about playing @ Purdue – ‘It was 4 years ago, that’s a long time.” (Ahh, youth). He and Speights are competitive on tackle numbers..
Hayes feels good on FGs out to 65 yards in practice, sounds like 60 in a game. Says Smith prefers the 35 yard line on in for FG range. Wouldn’t a good FG from right on the center field stripe to win a game be cool?
So they must post them on their site first I’m guessing because you put up Noyers interview the day they did the defensive interviews with the guys I said. If you think I’m crazy look below oldbeav mentions that they’re up. Like today the 2nd they have one with Smith up.
Yeah, the Smith one is up. Posted 1hr ago. Gimme some of what you were smoking yesterday….OldBeav mentioned they were up AFTER I did…lol
The defensive ones that were posted on the 1st he mentioned. You were mentioning the offensive ones. For christ’s sake go to the site it says Smith 1 hour, defense, 1 day, offense 2days ago. Smith being 2nd, defense 1st, and offense being the 31st. Literally just went to beaversedge and checked. What are you smoking?
You posted the one with Noyer he said defense the same day. You’re behind.
Nope. Noyer posted the same exact time as the others. Photo provided for proof. You’re living in the future, man. Give me some of your smoke!
https://i.imgur.com/HELlVqO.jpg
Once again you’re getting it from a slow site or something you’re wrong not the same time. Link for real proof it says 2 days.

Hoping to hear back soon on whether this is related or just a councidence.
A Florida 4*OLB/DE/EDGE, Andrew Chatfield, just entered the transfer portal the other day.
There also happens to be an Andrew Chatfield in the OSU student directory. No idea yet if it’s the same guy, but I wouldnt think that’s a super common name.
Adding to this, Coach Tibs follows the kid and recruited him back in the day at Wisconsin.
Oh, and our starting DE has a broken foot.
Seems a little too good to be true, hopefully I’ll know more soon. Hang tight.
http://directory.oregonstate.edu/?type=showfull&osuuid=82757454531
And it’s not the same guy. Damn
But if you see a 2nd Andrew Chatfield get added to the student directory, you’ll know somethings up, haha.
And now I’m getting conflicting info from another source saying this is Chatfield in the student directory. And both sources are what i would consider to be very close to parties on both sides. So now i’m torn on who to believe, haha.
So either we landed a 4* DE transfer, or we didnt. Guess we’ll wait and see if more info trickles in.
More info trickles in. It’s NOT him in the directory. 100% confirmed that. But we are in the early stages of pursuing him, so i guess theres an outside chance we could get him, but alot of teams are on his tail now.
Sometimes you have to be very very specific with how you ask a question, and even then the answers can be misleading.
That would be a very nice addition
That was a rollercoaster nicebeav. Lol
38-17 beavs. Defense is the best we’ve seen in 10 years. Noyer plays smart. Beavers stomp the pipe fitters and their shitty chilli.
Chili?
It’s a cross between Nally Chilli and meat soup. Purdue tailgaters should be embarrassed.
https://www.food.com/recipe/boilermaker-tailgate-chili-232242
Bruh that’s disgusting. Chili shouldn’t have more than 10 ingredients. Fucking Fritos?
Midwestern people love Fritos for some reason. They sell these things at HS football games that are just a little bag of Fritos with chili poured over the top.
Fritos are acceptable in a Frito boat
Earby committing on Friday.
To cal
Sedge up with interviews, defense today: Tibs, Roberts, and Grant.
On the 1st.
Anyone have a reverse osmosis system? Any issues I should know about?
They’re finding PFAS in the water all around the west (fire fighting foam…awful)…so we have to do something.
I’ve considered a setup myself — would recommend RO but leave room for in-line AC after the RO unit, for downtime of RO and extra purification if you want it. I work in an industry with the RO and activated carbon bed technology, so a bit familiar. Both can work just depends on cost and degree of purification you want. The companies and equipment reviewed by the Chicago Tribune seem more than adequate.
https://reviews.chicagotribune.com/reviews/best-reverse-osmosis-systems
https://www.ewg.org/news-insights/news/removing-toxic-fluorinated-chemicals-your-homes-tap-water
Awesome, thanks.
Water seems like such a scam industry…Home Depot didn’t help with all those fake water quality tests. I don’t know where to start to find reliable information on RO, best system, etc. Figure I’d start with AB!
Get Kangen lol.
Are you on a well or city water?
City.
I took my water to a private lab for testing, from there you can see any chemicals or impurities and you get the results to share with vendors. I got quotes from all experts in my area. All were a scam that tried to oversell me and would allow them follow on maintenance. Be diligent. I ended up designing my own system and purchased from an online firm in RI. I am on a well and went with activated carbon for whole house. In my research RO systems were overkill for my needs. I would call vendors and pepper them with questions. Lots of options on size and usage.
Yeah exactly all seem like a scam. That’s why I’ve been asking around. I trust people who have gone this route over the companies. Thanks!
OT: “The Pac-12 is launching an initiative to help its athletes take advantage of such opportunities.
Pac-12 Networks, along with licensing partner Veritone, will help athletes who want to make use of their own highlights negotiate the licensing process for commercial use. This is the first Power Five conference to introduce such a program, but others likely will follow in this new era of college sports.
“The Pac-12 Networks NIL Licensing Program is an important step in recognizing and celebrating the new opportunities available to student-athletes,” Pac-12 Networks President Mark Shuken said in a release. “We are proud to provide this new, streamlined process for student-athletes and their NIL partners to easily access and make the most of Pac-12 Networks footage in this new landscape.”

Another NIL article today with Scott Barnes being interviewed.
He talks about the deals so far being pretty lackluster and that the average deal for OSU athletes has been around $40 for some social media posts(guessing these are the barstool athletes he’s referring to)
If I were Barnes, I wouldnt be advertising how small the deals at OSU have been. YOU’RE NOT HELPING!
https://twitter.com/PDXBIZJournal/status/1433263436453003266?t=Ahy-zz_9rcljU1-lkCSDdg&s=19
AB crowdfunding to get our favorite player to do a sponsored post? I bet we can get at least $41 and bring that average up.
How about we give $1,000 to the angriest beaver on the defense? Maybe give $1,000 to the nastiest hit or best defensive play of the game each week?
“Angriest beaver of the week sponsored by angrybeavs.com”
Maybe it can be done in collaboration with the Angry Beaver Grill in Corvallis?
I like this: “Angriest beaver of the week sponsored by angrybeavs.com”
How do we go about it?
Contact the athletic department probably
I think deals get made with the student athlete directly, and then they are required to report it to the athletic department within a few days, for transparency.
Also, state laws in Oregon have language around cross marketing the school, but the “Angriest Beaver” seems like it could be generic enough you could use it.
To makes this work on a weekly basis, you’d want to make sure you have everything ready to go and basically just have the athlete sign the agreement (ASAP) and pop his photo into a template or something.
I’d imagine you’d need to coordinate with OSU for photo/video (unless you want to just have the athlete himself send you a photo).
you could probably set up a kickstarter account that collects $$ for each game, and then distribute that money each week to the angriest beaver player. problem is what happens when the money coming in doesn’t cover the $1000 goal? Do you still get to use it or does it go back to the contributors? and who physically holds the money before it’s distributed? are there tax implications? and who decides the winner of the award each game?
How about Gofundme? That seems a little more flexible than Kickstarter.
12 games at 1000 per could be a stretch, but maybe $500? Do you think you could squeeze 6k from readership here?
Didn’t the New Orleans Saints get in trouble for doing something like this… paying $$ for taking players out?
That’s not what’s being suggested
Yeah the best LEGAL hit or defensive play.
Could be Hayes kicking a 60 yard game winner or difference maker….
Yeah I agree it might be a stretch, but who knows… If we start this maybe it generate more traffic thus more people willing to support the players directly? Plus it wouldn’t be bad if the players catch wind of this for an extra incentive to bust their ass every game.
Could split the $1000 into two categories: Angriest Beaver Offensive player of the game and Angriest Beaver Defensive player of the game. Then put up a poll for fans to vote on who they feel was the best offensive player of the game and the best defensive player of the game.
Just do the previous games mvp. Use the beaver sports network pick, it’s something like “the pacific office automation player of the game” or something like that.
If it’s an AB promotion, we should have ownership of it. This has always been an “alternative” site, so it would make sense for us to have a non-mainstream MVP (like a DT or OL or something).
Does anyone know if it’s possible to stream a replay of the game on one of FS1’s platforms? Or do I need Fubo or something like that?
I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble, but:
“Under the NCAA’s interim NIL policy, NIL compensation cannot be contingent on athletic participation or achievement (e.g., financial incentives based on points scored). Athletic performance may enhance a student-athlete’s NIL value but athletic performance may not be the “consideration” for NIL compensation.”
That sounds like it could have wiggle room based on how the actual policy is written. Their example just makes it sound like you can’t sign an agreement with variable compensation based on performance.
You may even just be able to circumvent this by being vary vague about what qualifies someone as the ‘Angriest Beav of the Week’. Just call them that and don’t refer to a specific play, stats, etc.
Yea that entire stipulation is super weird since the whole reason for compensation is “contingent on Athletic participation”. I mean no companies are paying Steve the Junior Liberal Arts Major for helping slang their products..
Maybe you haven’t been on the internet too long. Marketing companies sure are paying college kids to sling product. They can get a percentage of sales for advertising product and people purchasing under a promo code. Sure it’s not upfront payments but they are paying regular students. They pay more for ones who have a lot of followers on social media platforms. It’s not big companies doing it, but up and comers looking to grab market share.
LOL Bill!!! You don’t know just how hilarious that post is if that was directed at me.. Would be like telling you your name must not be Bill. What you described is literally what I do. The point stands, no brand is paying a random no name students. If they are Micro Influencers sure.. any one with a following under 50k and moderate engagement rates can get some product co sponsorship opportunities from smaller challenger brands. But Random Lib Art student Steve is not making that happen. Back to the NIL stipulation.. the wording is disingenuous since the entire premise of securing sponsorship is tied to athletic involvement. Steve in Liberal arts was always able to receive payment for work of any kind. Whether as an influencer or male stripper because he was not on athletic scholarship. Nothing has changed for Steve.
My dogs have over 30k followers on instagram… only 20 more to go to be influencers and I can make some money off those bitches. :) https://www.instagram.com/itsmiaandsophia/
Actually we have already been getting free crap thanks to them but we don’t work it that hard… probably need to pimp them out there more.
How the f do your dogs have 31k followers??!!
Hit up your followers for funding Angriest Beav. Time to cash in on that goodwill.
Lol that’s awesome and cute Pups! I legit may have an opportunity for you / them for a spinoff brand launching soon for Mission Pets: Similar shots and product placement as what’s going on here:
https://www.instagram.com/missionpets/
Let me know what you think and I’ll reach out when the time is near.
Sure why not. Now time for me to go lay my head on the cool Tommy Bahama pillow they got me. :)
Angry can you share BeaverBills email with CaliBeav?
Sure.
Tuning into Minnesota/Ohio State. So strange to see a crowd with no spacing, no masks, no cardboard cutouts.
Gophs are going toe to toe with Ohio State. Buckeyes looking inexperienced and beatable.
Fight Rodent brethren, fight!
I’m curious why Minnesota has a bunch of paddles in their hallway when their motto is “Row the boat”.
Ha, saw that too. You’d think people from “the land of a thousand lakes” would know the difference.
tOSU with a lot of bad penalties and losing the freshman QB roulette
I like the ref talking to the Ohio St defender after the clear PI, saying “don’t make it so obvious”.
The boat sprung a leak.
Ain’t no way I’m donating to an NIL, I spend good money on AB!
Beavs 27-24.
Damien Martinez is looking like a pretty good cornerstone recruit fornthe Beavs 22 class.
Scored 5 TDs in the 1st half of his game tonight and sat the 2nd half.
Good combination of speed and size. Could outrun defenders on the outside, or bowl through them up the middle.
After the game he put on his Oregon State gloves to let people know he’s a Beav.
The edge podcast is up. They said that Purdue is more of a defensive team. Lmao
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/massive-20m-donation-to-pitt-leads-to-bizarre-name-change-for-head-coaching-position/ar-AAO2zzp?ocid=entnewsntp
More precedent for the inevitable, eventual renaming of our HC position to the “angrybeavs.com Head Football Coach”
That’s disgusting. It’s hard to understand how people are bullish on NCAA football.
it’s kind of short-sighted of Chris Bickell. If Pitt ends up with a bad HC, his name will be on the guy’s job title.
Can you imagine if Gary Andersen had been the “[your name] Head Football Coach”?
Haha. Hilarious. How long do they have to keep his name?
Are you not aware of Mitch Canham’s title?
Chris Bickell ’97 was never the Head Football Coach at Pitt
Ok, then what’s David Shaw’s title? This isn’t new.
PHIL STEELE’S FORECAST:
The only time the two teams have played was 1967, the Beavers’ famed Giant Killers season. OSU, coming off back-to-back losses to Washington and BYU, beat the No. 2 Boilermakers 22- 14 in West Lafayette, Indiana. At the time, many at OSU called the Purdue victory the greatest win in school history. OSU became the only team to go undefeated vs 3 “Top-2” teams in one season by defeating #2 Purdue 22-14 in West Lafayette (only meeting), beating #1 USC 3-0 and tying #2 UCLA 16-16. This is the 16th time in the last 41 years (S/’80) that Purdue has opened the season vs a P5 non-conf opp (5-11 SU, 8-8 ATS). Purdue has 9 returning starters on both offense and defense and off 3 straight losing season need to open the season strong and only have Connecticut on deck. The Beavers do lose their star RB Jermar Jefferson but have 19 returning starters. Purdue is the stronger team and at home. Brohm is on a 1-7 run as a HF. Jonathan Smith is at the other end of the spectrum as an AD as he is on a 9-0 ATS run in that role.

These predictions are always pretty messed up, incomplete data sets, tell week 4-6.
My feel on this is that Oregon State has improved at most positions this off-season. Purdue lost Moore to the NFL and draft (round #2) and has had a huge disruption on defense with new coordinators and switching to 4-3. I watched 2 of their games from last year and the offense ran through Moore with him getting the touch or more often with him as a distraction.
Basically I think Steele is pretty close if the game happened last year. I don’t think Purdue actually improved much this off season but I think the beavers did. If we can find an answer for Jermars production with improved receivers and our many RBs I think this game is in garbage time in the 4th
The consensus amongst pundits seems to be “don’t trust 2020 data when making predictions.” That hurts models like this.
Obviously, it will come down to execution. But this analysis lost some credibility IMO when I read this:
“Oregon State OL vs Purdue DL: PURD +0.20“
Purdue has the same DL concerns that we do, from what I’ve read.
They at least have a projected first-round pick on their DL. Who do we have?
Yep. Oline is a huge strength of the Beavs and they have big concerns at DT. Yes they have karlaftis but its Purdue pundits that say he’s a first rounder. He was hurt last year so his sample size is small and he might not return to form. Also if there is only 1 good pass rusher you can do things to alleviate that if no one else is a threat. Also dont think their coaching staff is a lot better than ours like they say. I understand it tho from their perspective because Smith’s record isn’t good from the rebuild.
NFL guys are saying Karlaftis is a first-rounder, but yes our OL should be good. They were better against the run than pass last year, though, so I think we’ll still need some improvement in pass pro if we’re going to win that battle.
All I’ve read about is his pass rush ability, anyone know how stout he is against the run?
I would run the ball right at Karlaftis, double-teaming as needed. Wear the guy out as soon as possible.
Ad you noted, he missed a lot of football last year due to injury. I’d test his conditioning right out of the gate.
Ya that’s exactly what I said previously. Even if he is fairly stout I’d attack him with TQ and Kipper. If they run the ball and control the clock I think they can wear them down pretty easily especially with it being the first game. Teams tend to still not be in the best shape at the beginning of the season. Also think the middle of the defense is soft. Their MLB Oc Brothers might be out too. Lindgren is smart enough to stick with what is working like with the QB sneaks in the CW.
Poll goes final. 83.9% of Beav fans think we beat Purdue. :D

Finally scheduled the vaccine for next week. Been afraid to get it because of clots given I have something close to anemia. Statistically 2 people in my city will get clots from the vaccine. Probably me. Wish me luck! Final straw is all these new variants (Mu, lambda, etc). Vaccine doesn’t even help vs some of these, but I’ll get it to help with the others. We’re pretty F’d as a society. Going to be a lot of deaths upcoming.
Good decision. I have anemia as well. When I was born I was told I should not have children with an Asian woman.
It’s all good, I had no reaction at all.
What’s going on with these new variants? I haven’t been paying attention
Thanks, that’s good to know you had no reaction. It’s been hard to find data. I have Lepore B, which expresses itself a lot like anemia, though technically different. With the new variants, it’s currently believed the vaccines will have little effect. I’m not sure why, and I don’t think scientists even know yet why that is.
Pfizer 2X, no reaction. Fully vaccinated since February.
I would say it seems my tinnitus seems worse after the shots, but that’s correlation without proof of cause…
Dude me too! My kid screams in my ear a lot (she’s little) and my ears are ringing like crazy lately
So you just have sex with Asian women and skip the kid thing…
I’lll be praying for you.
This game is a toss up for many reasons, but I think Smith et al > Brohm et al gives OSU the advantage. Does the fact that it’s a road game offset that advantage? I think the “4 pm” start time helps the Beavers.
I still think the Beavers win, but unfortunately will likely miss most if not all of the game.
Damn thats a bummer I’m super stoked for this game. I should be able to watch hopefully. Are you able to record it? Might be replayed.
Best of luck! Partial protection is better than no protection…
TWSS (That’s what Seth said?).
Thanks!
Seth’s advice: if the virus attacks you, hurdle it!
Good luck to you Angry!
The NCAA should codify the targeting rule to clarify the obvious…
“If the team is the conference’s best bet to make the CFB, the targeting rules will not be enforced against said team even if the player breaks the neck of the lesser opponent.”
Yes I’m referring to the Ohio State game last night. Conference refs keeping all Buckeyes eligible for the Oregon game.
Fuckin lame but at least it works against Oregon. I hope this isn’t the buckeyes shittiest team in awhile and the ducks beat them and then we have to hear about how great they are until they’re exposed.
Did the Minnesota player have his neck broken on that play?
Targeting rules are total BS. Refs make the onfield call differently depending on whose playing and them use the review as a last chance to back pedal.
If and Oregon State player commits the penalty, you can pretty much guarantee the player gets ejected in that scenario.
No. Exaggerating for affect. Totally pissed me off last night.

Not Targeting LOL ^^^^^
It was one of the most egregious no-calls of the game. There were a couple other no calls that were clearly PI on Ohio State’s defenders. It’s really hard to watch this crap anymore.
Minnesota got away with a few obvious ones, too. It’s usually not even, but it does go both ways.
I guess there’s a 40% chance of rain. That could really swing things in the Beavers favor and slow down their passing attack some.
Anyone know how scholarships work for football? How many full and partial scholarships do the programs get? I think it was mentioned here baseball has 13 but they can be split up. Curious for football how that all works. Thanks
Football is full scholarship only. 85 total.
Thanks Bill
BIG12 might be adding 4 schools. BYU, Cincinnati, UCF and Houston. Doing that would cement their status as not quite a p5 conference. At least in football. Saves the pac12 from having to add schools they don’t really want to.
In Lafayette, beautiful evening with cocktails at the Knickerbocker Saloon – oldest bar in Indiana, great old school bar. Great weather, hoping the rain holds off tomorrow, but I think we may get wet! Go Beavs!
Rain should help slow down their passing attack tho.
Remember the “famous” Quack, Braxton Burgmeister? He may be leading Va Tech to an upset over North Carolina. I didn’t know he was still playing!
Martinez planning to enroll early, has great relationship w/Steward. RB going to have lots of depth!
I think he’s going to be a special one
I agree as the kid looks legit.
Aren’t we all.
mens soccer ranked 22nd won 2-0 of u of p, undefeated

Game thread set to go up around 2:45 PST. Game is 4:00 for you guys, right? Let’s keep pregame in here.

I’m curious to see what kind of new blood we can draw this season. Always good for more perspectives.
First drive of Stanford/KSU featured 4 penalties.
College football is back!
Stanford looks really pedestrian. Is this Shaw’s Mike Riley decline? He looks bored and his old top assistants are gone.
He’s getting fired up now, but they’re still down 14
Doubtful, he’s still bringing in the recruits. Top 25 class for 2022 right now.
It would just be nice to see The Beavs beat Stanford this year and end their decade-plus winning streak. This season might be the window of opportunity.
Stanford will figure it out just in time for the Beavs game
Wisconsin and PSU 0-0 at halftime. Gotta love Big Ten football!
Go beavs! Getting ready to fire up the grill, crack a cold one and enjoy college football again!!
Watching the PSU/WI game, it’s obvious that the announcers don’t understand the purpose of the targeting penalty and the severity of the punishment. The whole point is to change the mindset of defenders to tackle with their head up. It’s more about protecting them from head/neck injury than to protect the offensive player. Yes, some are to protect a defenseless player, but mostly it’s from leading with the crown of the helmet. If coaches aren’t teaching their players to tackle with their head up then it’s on them and they’re doing their team a disservice.
Sounds like it’s pouring in West Lafayette currently and they expect the rain to continue through the game.
Betting the under might be a good idea today, especially with the line moving up today.
Like I mentioned above could really work in the beavers favor being the stronger running team. I wonder if any of these prognosticators took that into consideration? Even if it slows down the purdue passing attack a little bit I’ll take it.
Rain is supposed to taper off by game time
Depends on how well the field drains. If it drains really well, then it won’t make much of a difference. Most modern stadiums have good drainage so I am thinking it’s a non issue. Ball security could be an issue though.
I looked up the playing surface and it says Purdue plays on bermuda grass. Interesting since it’s usually seen only in year round warm climates. Must be a delicate balance to keep it growing.
Stuffed Duck on 4th down.
Looking to next week if a bad look lol
Fresno St gets a TD and 2pt conversion after the stuffed Duck. Big swing. Upset alert.
It’s Tedford time!
Canzano had one of his opinion pieces about how Ohio St. didn’t look good against Minnesota and Oregon has an opportunity on the national stage. Getting ahead of himself as usual. I think we can say the same about The Quacks whether they win or lose. Other than the two bad turnovers in the first half, Fresno has looked their equal so far.
Ducks are a completely different team without Thibodaux.
This is the year Mario gets exposed. Total fraud.
Could start 0-2! That would be hilarious considering they think they’re a national title contender every year. They’re just a soft team with all their fancy shit.
Propped up by landing high level recruits. But he can’t coach them up.
Exactly! A+ for recruiting tho. Lol
I think Mario needs to lose a game like this to shut up the excuse-makers. How do they start the season ranked 11th after going 4-3 and being run over in their bowl game last year?
Stanford dropping one makes the Pac North seem wide open if Ducks drop first also. Crazy!
West Lafayette hourly weather

Looks like it will at least be somewhat of a factor. Hopefully coach steward is preaching ball security.
Too bad Fresno gave the ball away in duck territory. Ducks have had 3 gifts in this game resulting in short yardage drives.
Dumbasses! Exactly what you don’t do as an underdog.
I think the yucks will get the W but it’s another 5-star talent, 3-star performance for ole Mario.
Literally just wrote that on Twitter…bizarre.
https://twitter.com/angrybeavs/status/1434262629707509763
Haha. The Synergy.
Great minds…
Seriously, isn’t Fresno 2 and 3 star recruits?? I was being generous with 3 star, I think.
I would imagine Fresno States roster is mostly 2-stars with a few 3 here and there.
Unfortunately, Fresno couldn’t make any plays in the 4th quarter.
