Last thread nearing 800 comments, y’all ready for a fresh one?
Talk Tinkle if you must, but lets kick this analytics stuff around too. Appears Mitch may have a different approach than Jonathan; the Bahns piece from the last thread indicates that Mitch uses analytics to get to know his players and to coach ’em up (even to coach up his staff). OTOH we have assumed Jonathan is focused primarily on in game decisions. As angry said prior to the Cal game, “The problem with analytics is they don’t specifically analyze your team.” Has Mitch avoided that pitfall?
Here’s the link:

Notice, “New this year is the recording of every second of practice, from a multitude of angles, which Canham has used to both measure efficiency and evaluate the areas of the field that he can’t see in the moment.”
Think Mitch is a micromanager or just keeping up with the technology of the times?
Till angry shows up, go as general as you wish: NIL/The Portal and potential locker room problems, QB outlook, Baseball news. And, yeah, what’s up with WBB?
Something interesting I noticed is Coach Smith’s most recent player he followed is Austin Mack. He’s the 2024 QB who is deciding tomorrow between UW/Cal/UO/OSU/Stanford.
People seem to think it will be UW, but it is curious that Smith is suddenly following him. That often happens right after Smith get a commitment. Not to say that is the case 100% of the time, could also just mean Smith was surprised he was in the top 5 and decided to step up his recruiting game.
Anyway, we’ll find out tomorrow
9er has recruited at Folsom, previously.
Now I’m going to go play some Johnny.
Where Merle heard his calling
Can’t hurt that UW already has a local QB committed in the same class.
They’re fucking frosh and transfers.
They will succeed, given time.
Usually for a hoops team, they don’t really gel until the beginning or middle of February. They may show glimpses of what’s to come, but it never really seems to stick.
Then your team just gets it. It’s not you or anything you’ve taught them… directly. It’s just that they know how long the season is.
A good coach knows how to take advantage of that trepidation… at the very least.
Not worried about Rueck. Team is getting better and will continue to do so. Next year I’d expect a strong team
Same here. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them do well in PAC tourney. Still, looks iffy for Big Dance.
Overall I tend to agree. BUT……they did not look better against a Cal team that you just can’t lose to. And next year is contingent on not losing any key contributors to the portal. This program can’t afford to take another step back at this rate.
Yup.
The way he’s playing Beers and Gardiner right now, I’m worried they will bail this offseason.
The way he’s played Gardiner? She’s only played a handful of games due to a medical issue earlier in the season, what would you suggest different?
Man I remember when the Beavs were a team you couldn’t lose to. Glad to see the shift
Baseball roster is out and one notable player I expected who isn’t on there is Tyree Reed. I don’t remember hearing anything about him transferring. Or is he taking another redshirt-injury year off?
https://osubeavers.com/sports/baseball/roster/2023?path=baseball
Too bad about Reed, it’s a what could have been situation. Terrible luck for that kid.
Only other significant contributor from last year that isn’t listed is Trosky. He had a lot of potential. Don’t know if he transferred or is hurt. He had a pretty poor run in summer league play.
Joey Mundt is back. Big help if healthy but he hasn’t been mentioned anywhere in fall reports or the opening press conference.
Dernedde is listed as IF/OF so maybe he’s being pushed for the SS role.
Sounds like Reeds knee still not right. Trosky not on the roster?
I hear Trosky is injured too.
Man there are a lot of new players this year. That sucks about Reed. Seemed to be a potential superstar as a HS Jr.
He’s not showing on the OSU sports app as even being on the roster. Neither Reed or Trosky. Too bad. I think Trosky was a huge upgrade over Dernedde. Not sure he could get a hit in Tee balland his defense dropped off in the 2nd half last year too.
Jaden Rashada ends up at ASU. I wonder how much money they offered?
Does anyone think he will be a locker room leader with the media circus around him though? So every school in the conference has a 5 star qb except WSU?
USC, UCLA and OSU are the only ones with former 5-star QB’s.
Let’s be honest.
Wazzu only needs a redshirt frosh walk-on, and they’re worldbeaters.
Don’t know how true this is, but “Two sources told ESPN that the Rashada family was not focused on NIL deals in this second process. A source said the family made it clear they did not want to engage in NIL deals with Arizona State’s collective prior to Rashada’s signing.”
That seems pretty hard to believe lol. Dude has a $13 million dollar deal fall through and for his backup option he’s not even thinking about $?
LOL …no kidding
I guess I hadn’t heard that Ben Ferrer was returning. Absolutely rock solid, lock down back end of the bullpen guy.
Any chance he gets a starting opportunity?
Been some speculation in print that he might start or be a combo guy. If he starts, who’ll be that “rock solid, lock down back end of the bullpen guy.”?
Fair point. Guess that’s what these early season non conference games are for?
Lots of moving pieces to get this pitching staff right. More than enough capable guys.
One thing the Beavs are lacking is power arms. Quinn is the only one who can get up into the mid 90s. Everyone else maxes out around 90. Defense will need to help out the pitching a lot this year.
Mundt seemed to have the closer mindset the season before last.
Based on the baseball media day or whatever a few weeks ago, seems like they aren’t going with a true back-end guy. Mitch mentioned Brown might he that guy to go against the best of the order so that could be 7th or 8th inning in his mind. So either we’re embracing the metrics even more or that means, we aren’t super confident in pitching outside of a few guys. Not super comforting either way I don’t think.
Yeah, other than Ferrer/Brown/Mundt/Kmatz, I’m not too confident about pitching depth. Even Kmatz I’m not entirely sold on, because he was the weakest starter last year, in my opinion (granted, he was a freshman). Definitely need a few of the transfers/freshmen to step up. Trent Sellers was dominant in NAIA, but I don’t know how well that will translate to D1. Canham mentioned Rhett Larson as a bullpen contributor, and Forrester said that AJ Hutcheson has been tough to hit off of in practice. I’m surprised Canham didn’t say anything about Jaren Hunter though, because he turned it up a notch and came up big in the Regionals and Super Regionals. I think this year the Beavs will have to rely more on outscoring opponents than shutting them down with pitching. Despite losing so much offensive production, I’m more confident they can do that. Forrester/Bazzana with improvement and more consistent play from Tanner Smith/Guerra/Kasper/Wheeler, and new guys like Turley/Cedillo/Talt/Macias I think will make a formidable lineup.
Kmatz should be fine. That’s probably more innings than he’s ever thrown and I can see that wearing a young pitcher down over a full season. Hunter should be a great piece though. Mundt definitely has the experience now and was solid as a younger pitcher, but it’s always hard to say how guys come back from injuries. Honestly, there’s a lot of question marks with this team. All new outfield and needing to replace 70% of the offense, lots of q’s around the pitching imo. Outside of Brown and Kmatz, most the young guys that were on the mound got shelled last year. Now, off-season experience could make an impact obviously but some of those appearances were really, really rough. Same with the offense. Kasper had moments last year but definitely wilted down the stretch…even defensively. Someone mentioned Dukart as a possible starter and that’s a little scary. Believe his first 7 or 8 at bats were strikeouts and most were 0-3 counts. It was pretty ugly. Lots of talent but I’m not sure it’s realistic to expect 5 or 6 freshman and sophomores to get us to the top 3 in the Pac. I’m thinking more in the 5-7 range. I hope I’m wrong and I’m no analyst, but I definitely don’t see what people see when they put us in the top 25 in the country.
Dukart won’t be a starter. Cedillo-Turley-Kasper will be the starting OF in all likelihood and the likely infield will be Guerra-Dernedde-Bazzana-Forrester and Smith behind the plate. The offense is gonna surprise a lot of people with how good it is. Turley is the best freshman all around bat with pop since Conforto and he’ll be a first rounder in 2025. Kasper had a really good summer and looks ready to make a jump and Cedillo had a good summer. Forrester and Bazzana are PAC-12 POY candidates. Dernedde and Smith are the weak links offensively and hopefully someone steps up to take at least 1 of those spots.
Strength of the pitching will be the bullpen. They got some serious arms in the pen. Right now there’s talk of Sellers as a starter and I just don’t see it. Had 1 great year in NAIA but other than that he’s been just okay or really bad. It was interesting Mitch didn’t really mention Lattery much even though he looked pretty good as a starter last season and in the WCL. Brown likely will be a starter. He’s got some of the best stuff on the team and he got some starting experience in the WCL. I think eventually Lattery takes the Sunday spot.
This team will be very good despite some unknowns on the mound and this coaching staff has shown they are excellent at player development
Austin Mack(2024QB) chose UW today, so that takes care of that
Nice. Qb next class is not that big of a deal in my opinion. Chiles is gonna take over after dj and between Ben and throckmorton we have 2 guys that will provide great depth.
RB is sorta a priority now with Damien likely only one more year after this up coming season. Plus the graduations coming up. I feel this position is key for the 24 class
Not really. Decommitments are all the rage these days.
lol… remembering the Terrence Jones commitment… wait… decommitment… wait commitment
five stars means you too may have a future in the P.League+
Is it bad that I really don’t care about men’s hoops all that much, but I just got done watching Nevada take down SDSU on the DVR, because I’m still a Jared Lucas fan?
Not much to be invested in tbh. Offense is non-existent. There’s been games where you can stop watching for 10 min and they’ve scored 4 points. Lol. It’s a young team and I would be more shocked if the nucleus sticks around for 3 years to become a stronger unit. In today’s environment, and even based on the last 2 years or so with Wayne, half the team will xfer and you’ll have 4 or 5 new guys that’ll bounce in another year or two. Not to mention this next stretch of like 4 games is brutal with the LA and AZ schools. It’s time for a change imo. Wayne’s had a few good seasons obviously, but just as many record settingly bad seasons. It feels especially bad when we suck and the brand of basketball is boring as shit. We don’t have an inside game so not sure why we spend so much time dribbling around the perimeter to take a long shot attempt with 5 sec on the shot clock. Have fun. Let’s go Layola Marymount and fire up the 3’s.
I can only surmise that Tinkle needs to micromanage the offense and “shorten the game” because he knows he can’t coach offense oriented basketball. So he ruins the teams confidence by deconstructing all they knew about offense before they arrived on campus. Tinkle’s plan amounts to trying to keep a low scoring game within a 15 pt loss rather than a high scoring game that would be a 30 pt loss. In the process he ruins the product and any possible entertainment value as well. It is too frustrating to watch once you’ve seen glimpses of talent early that disappear as the season drags on.
He will never go Loyola Marymount simply because he would lose all control and has no idea how to trust players in such a system. He isn’t able to trust them within his own system, therefore he micromanages possessions and struggles to let them flow into anything offensively.
I’ve seen high school teams better at recognizing defenses and all 5 guys switching into a different motion offense instantly and the coach on the sideline doesn’t need to say anything. Tinkle either likes to make it a show, doesn’t trust his guys to see what he sees, or isn’t able to prepare his team to see/what to expect in-game and let them just play.
Craig Robinson was the opposite and you wondered whether he even cared about the amount of freestyle offense which was occurring. CR teams seemed like they had no offensive structure at all, at least they attacked the basket sometimes.
Beaver basketball fans have a storied history and solid knowledge of what winning basketball looks like and Tinkle isn’t the answer to reviving those days. He needs to go.
This is a good analysis. Pope is a good example of this. Seemed like he crushed in the early part of the season, then kind of disappeared. Has shown that early season spark the last few games though. Obviously the talent is better in the Pac than early season teams but still, he’s really the only reliable scorer I’ve seen on this team and when we get into the long ass scoring droughts he should be the focal point and hasn’t been given that chance it seems.
Especially the part about ‘early talent that disappears.’
Our punter/kicking just improved! 5* Punter/4.5* Kicker in A.J. Winsor just signed his NLI today to attend Oregon State. Huge get for the Beavs Special Teams!
Seems to be a numbers game at that position. The more competition the better.
FYI from Chris Sailer. They rated him as a “FBS-ready” punter and “FCS-ready” kicker.
AJ is a very talented high school punting prospect. He is big, tall, strong and athletic. AJ has an ideal frame for a college level punter. He punts for a great combination of distance and hang time. AJ is also quickly becoming one of the most consistent punters in America. He is also a solid kicker. AJ does a great job on field goal. He gets the ball up well off the ground and has 50+ yard range. His kickoffs are coming along nicely, nearing college ready. College future is in his future with continued hard work. AJ is a fine young man who is always a great pleasure to work with. Strong prospect. OFFER NOW!!! Big pick up for Oregon State.
Aaron Perez (11-22):
AJ became the back to back winner of the Seattle PuntFactory Camp and absolutely crushed it. AJ is a TOP 12 punter and is one of th best in his class. During training at camp, AJ hit punts of 48 4.79, 45 4.34 and 42 4.3. AJ is a two-step punter with good hands and a great swing. He can punt directionally and during camp he hit a great ball direction right 40 4.44 outside the numbers. AJ is coachable, he is strong and will make a fine college punter.
The pitch sounds like someone trying to sell me extended car warranties…
Well choukair was a 5 star kicker and we all know how that turned out. I think someone had mentioned at some ooint that they hand out 5 stars fairly easy for the position if they are college ready. @nicebeav would probably no better. Either way it’s good to have him on board. Punting should be solid with Josh green returning I believe. Definitely could use an upgrade at kicker tho.
My speculation, the coaches are pleased with this signing since they didn’t go after a punter in recruiting or transfer portal. Time will tell on how he will pan out, but having a FG range of 50+ is reassuring.
Another “Great Hire” by TPB in Nebraska. Matt Rhule is now suing the Carolina Panthers over compensation dispute. I guess $9M/yr isn’t enough to offset $5M supposedly owed to him from the Panthers per this article. SMH I would be shocked if they win more than 5 games this upcoming season. Just the distraction Huskers need from their new coach.
https://www.si.com/nfl/2023/02/02/matt-rhule-sues-panthers-over-compensation-dispute
Lol…”but he is a program builder who has a proven track record at big time football…all of the loser schools are just jealous of the Big Red boosters flexing our strength to pull off such a hire”
I’ll give him 2 years before he is fired or leaves for a different job.
Why the hate? He has a strong college track record.
Agreed. A lot of good college coaches go to the NFL and suck. He’s probably the best shot Nebraska has at becoming relevant again.
It’s not hate. They hire a coach and he adds a distraction of filing a law suit. I don’t doubt he’s a good coach. I could see their rebuild similar to Oregon State’s, but able to throw more money around for NIL Collective deals.
No hate for Rhule. I’d say he has had some good results, good enough to land an NFL job, but the jab is at the Nebby delusional fan base, who have been looking for their next Tom Osborne since he left almost 3 decades ago.
Carolina owes him money.
It takes two to sign a contract.
He probably has no shortage of lawyers working on that, while he does other stuff.
Exactly. Don’t sign the contract if you don’t feel like paying.
Maybe they still do, maybe they don’t…as you say, there’ll be a lot of lawyers hashing out those details.
We don’t know the details and maybe Rhule is 100% justified in going after them. But it’s not a great look for either party, and it definitely could be a disgruntled former employee trying to make his old boss look bad. NFL franchises may be cheap the way they write contracts but they don’t make a habit of reneging on them… Bad PR, bad for business.
My guess is the contract with Nebraska is backloaded to get around the offset. Not sure how courts would interpret that, probably would come down a lot to the specific contract language. But pure speculation on my part.
My guess is Carolina will be sold in the near future… or start threatening a move. The owner was making noises about a stadium last year.
They aren’t acting like an organization interested in what they’re supposedly trying to do. Seen it before with Bud “The Dickhead” Adams.
Nebraska is Angry Beavs second favorite team for ending the Riley/Banker Era.
*Third favorite behind Whoever Is Playing Nike
still technically second on one day, every year
Daschel saying Trosky is out this year due surgery/rehab.
And Townsend has been suspended for the season for a violation of team rules
That must be a pretty major violation.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75XB0vcRRIA&ab_channel=ChrisSailerKickingKicker
Kicker looks good, but no one is rushing
Pretty sure the Panthers had off-set language in their contract with Rhule – which made letting him go more tenable given his college prospects. So whatever he is still owed is lessened by his Husker money.
Anyone have any info on Townsend?
Per Daschel:
As for Townsend, he recently was suspended by the university for a violation of team and university rules.
…Townsend was expected to be among a handful of candidates to compete for a weekend rotation spot or, at the very least, serve as a midweek starter.
Interesting phrase, violation of team AND university rules.
College kid got swept up in college life.
He called his coach “Miiiiitchhh!!”
Nice try, but I think COTT still goes to Beav in OH with:
“Third favorite behind Whoever Is Playing Nike”
MBB winning on the road at halftime thanks to Pope heat from beyond the arc. Can it last?
Easy answer. No.
Tinkle finds a reason to bench Pope, everybody else abandons their roles and begin chucking 3’s to no avail. Defense gets them back into the game midway through the half but a long dry spell on offense dooms them once again. Rinse-repeat.
Odds are they’ll piss it away and lose.
Ibekwe is an animal!! 8 pts 6 rebounds 1 block !! freshman that started playing basketball in 9th grade
Is this the Tinkle team that passes around till 5 seconds and chucks up a 3!
Same old story
One of their patented 4-minute dry spells is most likely going to do them in.
No fg the last 5 min of game. Just brutal
First game I’ve watched some of since November. Can someone explain the offense to me? Because I feel like I’ve seen this movie before when Jay John was head coach. High ball screen and 3 others just standing there doing nothing?
At least Craig Robinson would yell MOVE.
I got nothing. This team is bland and extremely boring to watch. Guess I’ll go crawl back under my rock for 2 more weeks until baseball.
There is no offense…hasn’t truly ever been an offense with Tinkle. Definitely tends to hold teams back from scoring if there is no offensive game plan. 16 turnovers isn’t good either. They’ve struggled all season with that. Pretty ugly.
Lol… was reading from bottom up and had the same thought
At least the transition game has… um… never mind.
Tinks needs a new offensive coordinator.
Watching Tinkle stand on the sideline barking out orders (apparently?) and pointing to spots on the floor while pretty much literally nothing happens is kinda funny.
He should bring in Craig Robinson to stomp his foot and yell move.
That would be more exciting than anything we have on the court right now. 8 of 24 from beyond the arc. Only 10 assists. 15 turnovers. That’s God awful…and it’s not even their worst game of the season. Lol.
Honestly I really can’t watch basketball anymore. College or NBA. It’s been pretty rare that I do since 2019. It’s boring.
Nothing but rat ball and jacking up 3’s.
And I decided to watch some of UA and Oregon before bed. Nothing has changed my mind. Arizona is the 5th ranked team in the nation? Good lord. They have some athletes. I’ll give them that.
Much respect to anyone watching MBB and still caring. Counting down the days for baseball to open up down here in the desert.
I don’t care. I was just bored and scrolling through the guide. It happened to be early in the first half. So yeah, I wasted an hourish before coming to the same conclusion I did in November. They’re boring, suck and how Stinkle still has a job is beyond me.
I play guitar while watching all the games so then it’s not a waste of time.
Is Dillon Brooks the only duck in the NBA currently? I cant think of a more appropriate representative if that school.
Here he is tonight flailing to draw a foul, then rolling over and giving Donovan Mitchell an intentional nut shot, before a shoving match breaks out.
He might be the most worthless NBA player in the league currently.
https://twitter.com/BleacherReport/status/1621333727543721984?t=NTPnMCjMBepcCiooQuSIjg&s=19
Pretty bitch cheap shot by Brooks.
Kick his ass Seabass
Definitely not the only duck in the NBA.
There’s 8 former ducks in nba right now.
Are any of them notable? Crazy that they could have 8 guys in the league and I can’t name 1, other than Brooks.
Bol and Boucher are backup big quality, but Bol is on a team with no real starting bigs.
It looks like Pritchard and Duarte will be in Europe next year.
Musgrave showing some wheels at Senior Bowl.
https://twitter.com/CamMellor/status/1621251999848140800?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1621251999848140800%7Ctwgr%5Ec046ed189dbbf27f78ae4ed642a29780ea52da8b%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsteelersdepot.com%2F2023%2F02%2F2023-senior-bowl-practice-report-day-three%2F
Musgraves is getting some rave reviews from scouts. His stock is rising
I would guess TE is one of the positions with lowest correlation between college and NFL success. Good for him.
Head coach is up Thera!
No comments about this ’23 commitment?
https://www.hudl.com/profile/12824380/Pete-Pennington
So will he be showing up for spring ball, or in the fall?
He’s probably just a PWO is why.
Gonna have to come up with a name better than the Petehammer, if he’s gonna play all those positions at OSU.
J. Jonah Jameson & Peter Parker would like to have a word…
Wonder if another player can take Townsend’s spot on the roster. Hopefully they knew beforehand that he might get suspended.
Scratch that. He’s not listed on the roster as of today and there are 40 players listed so someone took his spot.
Is it standard procedure to remove someone from the roster for an injury? Reed and Trosky off the roster but Daschel’s article didn’t mention they were off the team…just that they’d be out this year for the injuries. At least in the case of Trosky. Don’t recall Able being taken off the roster when he missed time.
Yes, if they knew before the rosters were final. Baseball is a different animal in that it still a cut sport in college. Meckler got cut in 2020 but then came back the next year. Not sure what the rules are about being on the team. Don’t know if they can be in the dugout or in workout with the team etc. Pretty sure they treat it as a redshirt year.
Sorry, been dealing with some stuff, and found out my friend I mentioned in the prior thread did die. Will be back in a week or so after recovery. Thanks for holding the fort, OOB.
Sorry to hear, man…my condolences.
Ugh, that sucks.
Sorry man
And mine –
Noticed on Twitter feed. Jacob Kirkham, leader in effecting Reser fundraising and much more is on to Michigan State.
I think Coach Rueck is in a tough position by hiring Deven Hunter. I don’t know what she brings to the table except her previous playing and being an Alumni. I don’t think she has the Coaching chomps for a D1 program. The kicker is, Coach Rueck is going to have to do something to improve this team, especially on the defensive side of the ball. How do you fire an Alumni and former player? Coach Rueck is going to have to pull the trigger sometime. I also think this team is lacking physical fitness, especially the new players. We saw Marie Gulich and Ruth Hamblin both hit the gym and turned into great players. I know that this is their first year at OSU but they need to trim up and toughen up. Beers has started to look better but we won’t be competitive until they start using strength instead of just size.
Beers only uses strength??? She’s only 6 foot 3 and boxes out much better than mitrovic
^^^
BINGO! Beers is one of the least of the teams issues.
Speaking of size, BTW it’s noticeable Jelena has lost considerable weight during her time at OSU… also noticeable despite her size has been very passive. I will say however she has played considerably better the past handful of games, coincidentally about the time Gardiner started playing.
Not sure Hunter is the issue, she and Huth joined the team at the same time. Why would you say Hunter is the issue and not Huth?
Beers will be great, in time. Mitrovic is like most European players, they are always a bit passive. I remember Gulich was the same when she first came to OSU. My understanding was that Hunter was primarily a defensive coach. I could be wrong but I think that is something theses teams are lacking compared with previous teams.
Women’s game vs number 7 ranked Utah beavs down 10 4 minutes left… talia playing great ! Refs making it very hard for beers and gardiner to work
61-54 Utah up mitrovic gets the 3 point play
Utah up 66-62 bendu stealing the ball like crazyyyy mitrovic also hosting a block party
66-64 Utah up beavs ball 20 seconds left….
Timea ties it up! 66-66 ten seconds left! Utah ball
Beav ball 2.8 seconds left tie game…
Overtime game ! Go beavs!
Final another one so close… 75-73 Utah with the ot win
Still don’t get why some folks on this site keep calling Musgrave a quitter. In this mock draft, he is going at number 28 in the first round.
https://www.nfl.com/_amp/eric-edholm-2023-nfl-mock-draft-1-0-four-qbs-selected-in-top-10-bills-eagles-add
The 28th pick in the draft is slotted for a $12.9M rookie contract. Sure, I would have loved to have seen Musgrave play last year, but athletes have one or maybe two at most chances for a payday, and I can’t blame Musgrave for wanting to protect himself from further injury or try to play when he was less than 100% when he has so much on the line for the future.
Kind of funny that he may be the highest drafted Beav in several decades and his college career was pretty marginal.
Cooks was drafted at 20, you think Musgrave goes higher?
No way. I’m skeptical he goes in the 1st…if I was an NFL team I’d never take him there. Legit potential but a lot of question marks.
Beaverton: I think a lot of the antipathy is that Musgrave just wasn’t a lot of fun to root for as a Beav fan. His main legacy was killing drives with drops and penalties and dumb mistakes. We gave him tons of reps and chances and just when he started to put it together he was gone. Maybe that was the right call, maybe not, depends on where he’s actually drafted…but either way it’s a frustrating situation as a fan.
Usually players with NFL potential give a ton to the team before they’re gone. IMO Musgrave was a net negative for the program with more mistakes than good plays over his career.
I think he’s being called a quitter because he quit.
The fact that Noelle Mannen starts and plays an average of 24 minutes a game speaks volumes. Yeah, she’s a cheerleader, a hustler, and her enthusiasm is likely infectious, but she is no serious threat to score and is somewhat of a defensive liability. Have you watched her go into the paint? She throws up prayers hoping to get fouled. I say, “Go ahead, start her ceremoniously, but yank her after a few minutes if you are trying to reward hustle.” Hansford and Blacklock as well as Pietsch and Marotte have much more upside, and even though they may be prone to freshmen mistakes (turnovers), they are no more so than Mannen. Beers and Gardiner are going to be great, and are already way better than Mitrovic, who has been at OSU for four years and has shown her progression has been incremental at best. Yeaney is not the true point guard Rueck covets, but we haven’t had one of those for awhile. Maybe next year??
I think they will peak at the perfect time and make a lot of noise in the pac 12 tournament
Eggers up with a nice piece on Talia, written prior to the Utah game.
https://www.kerryeggers.com/stories/old-soul-von-oelhoffen-leads-the-way-for-beaver-women
“We are best when we play loose. We need to play a little bit faster. We are really slow getting into things. That’s something we have to figure out.
Talia — whose boyfriend is Tyler Bilodeau on the OSU men’s team — is co-majoring in business and psychology and is a junior academically.
“I hope to be able to graduate with my double major by the end of next (academic) year, and then get started on my Masters,” she says.
“We need to play a little faster”. Yah like not having to stop and stare at Rueck every time down the floor waiting to be told what play to call.
To me, not qualified to judge tho, Rueck’s teams always appear slow. Colorado plays fast, as well. Their coach has done well.
Their relationship does make sense seems how they’re both from Tri-Cities
My extremely unqualified take based on a few game highlights, there seems to be youthful athleticism – maybe more fluid than Rueck’s past rosters? – who are ready to run, play faster, and less athletic players that don’t see the flow as well and can’t play at that pace?
Saw beavs baseball post Victor Quinn hit 96.6 on a strikeout of Bazzana. Could def use some guys with some heat.
Men’s basketball-20.5 to Arizona. I think zona beats the spread
Before halftime
Another stellar performance by men’s basketball! Doen 45-82 with 2:12 left. Beavs have scored 9 points in the last 13 minutes. Zona has cleared their bench with about 7 min left. Lol. This is an asskicking on another level.
Can Barnes meet Tinkle on the tarmac
And fire him? Sounds like it should happen for the sake of the schools dignity for goodness sake.
RIP OSU men’s basketball program. Tinkle has thoroughly burned it down to the ground.
I remember most here seemed to want an extension for Tinkle after the Elite 8 run. In hindsight not giving him one and letting him get “poached” would have been brilliant.
Where’s Nebraska when you need them?
I thought it was a weak effort, but the talent level between the two teams might just be that wide. Also, I’ve noticed when they run their offense they sometimes get open corner three looks, but nobody will take the shot. Taylor passed up three or four open looks. If he’s not comfortable, why the hell is he in that position? Tinkle has to know that the offense is not working, but it’s the same shit night after night.
If the talent level is that wide, that’s potentially a bigger issue altogether. Not sure what that means for the future. Something needs to change. Lackluster offense. A handful of big point losses and some really low scoring games. Thank God Cal is somehow worse.
Recruiting has been horrible the last few years so of course there’s a big talent gap. There’s nothing left to sell recruits on at this point other than the conference, which is the same regardless of who the coach is.
Can’t coach of the team doesn’t respect ya

Do Scottish beavers have bad teeth like the English ones?
No known difference. Are you considering beaver dentistry?
Just tuned in WBB, down 16-2.
Mannen with a steal and then takes her second charge of the game; yeah, give her minutes to someone else…..lol
More minutes than any other halfway through the 3rd. 0 points, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 3 fouls.
Non-freshman have 2 points through 3 quarters.
Yeah, tell that to oob who thinks that Mannen completely deserves her 24 minutes a game. That stat line isn’t going to win many games.
Womens game. Brutal. Young players look promising. But where’s the energy, rebounding, scrapping, cutting etc. offense is bad and relies on bigs down low.
Something is wrong with TVO, she has had horrible games and it seems to be more than just a slump…today she had her pocket picked and literally stood and watched the buff player run the floor while she moped. She earned a seat on the bench for quite a few minutes following. She looked checked out. Then the rest of the game when she was in she just threw shit up hoping. Yuck.
Jelena earned a long seat on the bench after refusing to try for a loose ball literally a foot and a half from her feet. YUCK.
Yes Mannen hustles, but what does that put on the board? She is the master of the flail approach to the bucket. She doesn’t distribute, she doesn’t score, she barely defends, while her hustle is appreciated, she wouldn’t start on any pac 12 team, and few if any p5 schools.
Gardiner is a freak. Made her first start. She isn’t intimidated in any situation. She makes plays. She hustles. Beavs need to make sure she doesn’t leave.
I love Beers. She isn’t as talented as TG but isn’t afraid of mixing it up and she has confidence to take a shot and fight for a ball and sets a wicked screen.
The other freshmen accounted well for themselves…Blacklock energy is infectious, Pietsch is Mannen hustle but better handle and more athletic.
Yeaney is so strong and brings a fire that the other upper classmen seem to lack, which the freshman also seem to have.
Beavs never really got into a flow, officiating was craptastic, you know its bad when Scotty gets teed up 5 minutes into the game. Buff coaches were a bunch of fuckers complain about every thing, all the while their players are mugging the shit outta the beavs. 00 for buffs out on the floor literally going from ref to ref to explain how to fuck over the beavs.
Beavs continue to struggle in the fist fight games like today. When the games are street fights and not basketball they have no answers. Thankfully the youngsters looked completely unfazed by the nonsense, that bodes well in the future. Has the game changed that much that players can assault their opponents though and have it go unchecked? Yuck.
Rueck has good pieces in place, he needs to learn to adapt to what the game has changed to, physical brutal slogs.
I’d rather see all freshman on the floor growing than no hustle and pouting from the upperclassmen.
Its disappointing to hear the game degrade like that. I remember a few years back there were remarks about UO women playing like that, and being questioned after the game about their street fight behavior, and the response was “Whatever. I just want to play basketball.”
Ok, so fouls don’t matter? How about if you step on the out of bounds line? Step over the FT line on the FT shot? What if someone makes a shot AFTER the final buzzer has sounded? I mean, how absurd do we want to get with rules conformance? That’s how the subsequent questioning should go.
Maybe the powers that be think this is going to make WBB more watchable? Make it more like the NBA game? I mean, without the alley oops and jams, but with carrying, traveling, different sets of calls for different players (rookie/journeymen/stars).
May be time to have Gary Payton I come in for a little consultation on defense and attitude and playing through this kind of BS.
The “Nice Girls that Shoot 3s” won’t get it done.
Huskies defeat Stanford wbb. Will OSU “promising young players” return? Family and nice girls may not cut it any more. Colorado never stopped moving. Literally.
Quack gals drop by 8 vs Utah; Beavs and ucks have both lost 6 of their last 8.
Will they react differently to the sad streak?
Goodman has Tinkle through next year, as does B/R. I’m guessing that’s barring a John Jay or Lavonda Wagner situation. I feel like this millennium has been special for OSU hoops. Wilner seemed to have the same, “Probably next year,” sentiment a couple weeks ago. But he also thought at that time that Hurley was off the hot seat.
Coaches Database is confident enough in the seat on fire scenario, that they went ahead and created a Let’s Speculate! page.
Who would have thought, women’s team is 3-9 in conference play. men’s team is 3-10.
Rueck is going to need to make some big changes in the offseason.
Should have mentioned in my diatribe above…Ruecks team continues to:
Not take care of the ball (like every year he has been here)
Lack of fire, his teams are very passive. Although, freshmen this year seem to have more fight in them, and most seem unfazed and not intimidated which bodes well
He needs to make sure his freshmen stay together and build with another good class and realize the game has changed, its no longer an athletic competition, the pac has decided wbb is a pick up game/ street fight and good guys finish last
Where is the cutting off the ball? No
mid range game from anyone. It’s either a three or post player making a move.
The only reason I’m making these comments is I went to the game today. I would have turned it off if I could have.
Six points with I think 4 minutes left in the second quarter. It’s like the team thought they’d just get points to magically appear without doing anything.
Start the four freshman from here on out.
Interesting trivia thing during my a break the question was asked who would win a 1 on 1 battle and I think everyone said Talia. She can’t get past a defender. Mauve she is hurt but she can’t juke anyone. She looks checked out. She was benched to start the second half I think it was. Sad that’s where they are at this far into the season.
Good thing we have gymnastics and wrestling??
Yeah, I was like Talia? One of the players said Jelena, I literally laughed out loud. Timea is the best player on the floor, by a wide margin.
The play where Pietsch broke that buff players ankles was enjoyable.
Completely agree about starting the freshmen. Let them get some experience.
You probably heard me yelling…at the ahitty refs, at the fucking buff coaches, for the freshmen…good crowd I general. Saw Tim Euhus while we were walking out, not sure he could have beat these shitty refs and mugging that was allowed
The rest of wbb schedule looks grim. Might as well play the freshmen. I don’t see how Rueck can hold this team together for next year.
The old guard, Stanford, Ducks, Beavs lost today. Utah and Colorado play mean and dirty and get away with it. When you play fast it’s easier to get away with the dirty part of it. Rueck might want to get some aggressive assistant coaches to help him out.
Okay, I am back. Let me know if there’s a specific topic you want me to write about. Else we will keep it general after this one. Usually this time of year general threads are good. If it’s baseball, OldBeav will have to write that one. I haven’t kept up, though I do plan to watch more this year.
Glad you’re back.
The original post here highlighted the Dam Analytics piece done by Bahns and linked above. I’m surprised there has been very little reaction to Mitch’s approach to analytics described in that story. Maybe my take was off base, but it seems to me filming every second of practice is a lot different than using a chart to decide to go for it on 4th and 6.
Bahns made it sound like Mitch uses analytics for teaching whereas we talk about Smith using it for “in game” decision making. Maybe the angry beavs crowd sees two entirely different forms of “analytics” at work here. Or, maybe not many read the piece.
I’ll take a look at it. Does he use Sabermetrics? That is more important than filming players.
I had a different take away, he films practice so he can see what he missed. Like if he were in the bullpen working with the pitchers, he’ll watch infield practice later or vice versa.
I used to watch Beavs practices when Ralph Miller was coaching. He’d let the assistants run practice and would either sit in the stands or on sidelines watching (and smoking). Then at end of practice he’d discuss what had happened over the course of previous 2+ hours. He had incredible ability to remember specific details. Most coaches make corrections in the moment but Miller believed it was best to keep the flow of practice going and address issues at the end. He felt players retained the feedback better this way. He must have had a photographic memory. Anyhow, this approach is similar to coaches filming practices and then correcting issues after instead of in the moment.
I remember him smoking More cigarettes at practice too. How times have changed,
…best to keep the flow of practice going and address issues at the end. He felt players retained the feedback better this way
Interesting point, and it certainly fits with a trait we learned early about Mitch; he doesn’t (didn’t) correct in game mistakes immediately and sometimes waits a full day or two. In that case it was more a matter of feeling the player knew he’d screwed up and Mitch wanted to calmly explore “what were you thinking?”.
Different forms of tracking data have been used for a couple of decades. The type of tracking or data, precision of data, and methodology of statistical analysis are the broader variables that make it tough to know how the information actually impacts decision making for coaches.
The assumption that JS uses a percentage chart for calling 4th down plays is different than what sounds like actual internal program motion tracking data for baseball program.
Mitch may be utilizing tech better, and applications in baseball aren’t simply Sabretrics any longer.
JS has been accused of being captive to some form of percentages chart and cold data like saber metrics used to be. Perhaps the same tech is helping both programs and we don’t know about it’s full usage.
Baseball sabermetrics are different than the JS chart. The JS chart is weighting other teams success rate too much, and many times those teams going for it more are better teams. That’s the problem. Sabermetrics isn’t perfect, but it’s very good. Things like linear weights, wOBA, ERP (Estimated Runs Produced), FIP/FIP+, BABIP, etc especially in setting up a lineup. It’s team specific and importantly the weighting of different types of events and what is in a players control (e.g. FIP, BABIP).
Football is really behind in this regard, probably because it’s not as statistical by nature.
I don’t remember Canham talking about sabermetrics all that much. They probably do use it but less than MLB as the quality of teams/player in college can vary considerably. The DAM analytics team from what they post are the more internal modern metrics. Spin rate, exit velocity, launch angle, bath path, etc. I’m sure there’s a lot more they are not sharing.
I’d be curious if sabermetrics are really that helpful in college baseball as a predictive tool. They can certainly have their place as a descriptive tool, but the players are earlier in their development curves and the sample size from game action is much smaller than it is at the pro level.
They’re used in MLB to predict how a player will perform in the future, based mostly off his past performance. That whole picture looks much different in college ball.
Musgraves stock continues to rise. ESPN mock draft has him going in the 2nd round. 4th TE selected. Seems like TEs are a scarce commodity this year if he’s projected that high. Conflicting reports on Musgraves blocking, the mock draft says he’s a good blocker.
Sounds like he has a great agent.
Family connections in the league offices doesn’t hurt either. Teams talking up a kid that is a relative of Bill Musgrave, a guy they have played or coached against and respect. I think Musgrave has a combination of great measurables and silver spoon that overcome actual minimal production/game tape of his playing time at OSU.
Must be nice to have specific advantages in life that will likely guarantee a fortune for not much to justify it.
Wish him well though, glad he got the touchdown against Utah on the blocked punt because that is really the only highlight I can remember from his time at OSU.
Tell us how you really feel!
It’ll be great for the program to have a player drafted so high no matter how he got there
Agreed it will be good for the program resume but a lot of potential that was never realized in a Beavs uniform for sure.
Luke had a great week at the Senior Bowl, his combination of Size and Speed is what has scouts are talking. He posted the highest Max Speed of any TE ever at the senior bowl, and top 8 of any player at senior bowl this year. There is talk that his forty will be in the high 4.4 to low 4.5 at 6′.5.5″ 255 lbs. A quick search of twitter has his name popping up lots of places. Low 1st/high second with a good combine is reasonable.
If he wows at the combine, it’s going to be hard for picks 15, 16, and 17 to take a pass, knowing he won’t be there in the 2nd Round.
That kind of 40 time gets serious first round consideration. My guess is he runs 4.65 which is a very good time.
He’s a big wide receiver, it’s what all the nerdy NFL matchup analytics types crave, it’s got electrolytes.
You’re not wrong.
Having a TE in the slot is a wet dream.
He’s got a ton of potential, under-produced in college. Look at his total catches, YPC, Number of TDs, blocking, nothing looks special production wise for his OSU career.
I hope he stays healthy and has a great career, but people are into beating a dead Beaver here.
The team won 10 games WITHOUT him and some poor QB play. How about that?
EVERY NFL draft players get picked high based on potential. Great workouts and combine numbers help.
Good luck Luke.
Ha! Not 10 without him…6? 7?
I forget where in the season he was injured and opted out. My bad.
I think I had him as a 3rd round pick or higher in that controversial comment that got a lot of people worked up. Wish I could find it. Angry nails another one, much to the chagrin of the haters who are gonna hate! ;)
Its funny how when it comes to QBs, you say its college footballl smarts, production, and winning that matter, not NFL potential, draft status, or making a roster. And I agree. I want OSU to have productive COLLEGE football players that win college games.
But with Musgrave that logic goes out the window with you and you want to minimize his college production and keep referring to your prediction of his potential and trot out “Everyone hated me!” hyperbole which is far from the truth. A few people disagreed with you. A few people still do.
No big deal.
There was a lot of backlash about how he wouldn’t even make the NFL and Q was a better player…
I want productive college players. I’m not saying I liked Musgrave’s career at OSU. Just that the NFL would love him.
LMAO. Anyone that says he’s a good blocker didn’t watch much of his game film. It’s always been his weakness along with drops. He looked better at catching the ball in the few games he played but was still a piss poor blocker.
Musgrave’s stats according to OSU Athletics website, which are prone to error:
2019: 2 receptions, 18 yards, 0 TDs, Long of 14
2020: 12 Receptions, 142 yards, 0 TD, Long of 29
2021: 22 receptions, 304 yards, 1 TD, long of 35
2022: 11 Receptions, 169 yards, 1 TD, Long of 30 yds (includes two games, BSU, Fresno State)
But potential ALWAYS gets GMs at the NFL draft, and sometimes they are right. I hope Musgrave has a great NFL career, but there, you have to play through injury.
This mock draft has Musgrave going at 33. But it was pick 66 that caught my attention:
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2023-nfl-mock-draft-keion-white-ocyrus-torrence-others-rise-senior-bowl-shrine-bowl/
Sewell at 83? He’s not much better than Avery Roberts when he came out of college.
Yes… and Speights got a ndfa rating… right?
bullshit on that
Sewell is a sieve. And I only say that because Dillon Brooks is the only hockey goon in the NBA.
Here’s an article assessing his game film: https://firstroundmock.com/2023/01/game-film-exposes-noah-sewell/
I don’t recall Omar having these issues the past two years
I honestly don’t know how he made 2nd team all-conference.
Having had to watch him play for the past couple years was like making my wife watch Pankey play.

She was at the wbb game sunday, I saw her walking out of gill chatting with some folks
I’m pretty sure she attended most, if not all of the football games, home and away.
OT: Doug Williams reflects on the history of black QBs in the NFL:
“I was fortunate because of what guys like ‘Shack’ (James Harris), Marlin (Briscoe) and Joe Gilliam went through. And I think about Warren Moon, who had to go to Canada first.”” – Doug Williams
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/columnist/bell/2023/02/06/doug-williams-super-bowl-57-patrick-mahomes-jalen-hurts/11196584002/
If you’ve ever read about the racism Doug Williams endured as he carried a young Tampa Bay Bucaneers franchise on his back into the playoffs, its impressive that he remembers to refer to guys like James Harris (Rams) and Warren Moon (Oilers, Seahawks). Doug Williams should be presenting the trophy to the SB winner in this next Super Bowl.
Damn podcast has up early predictions. I haven’t even thought about this yet, other than the Beavs should be contenders for the top.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxNt13S07Pg
Their top 6 was identical.
1. USC
2. UW
3. Oregon
4. Utah
5. OSU
6. UCLA
I don’t get the USC love. I haven’t looked at the schedule to see how it sets up but I’d put UW at 1, Utah at 2, USC 3 and Oregon 4. Maybe even swap Oregon and USC. Bears at 5 sounds about right.
USC defense was hot garbage last year. Utah and Tulane exposed them.
Beavs not Bears
Blonds not Bombs
Beavs #1. We have QBs now.
Hope you’re right. But for the time being I strongly disagree.
Probably my long term dislike of nike, but I don’t see them in the top three.
An injury or couple off days for Nix and they’ve got no plan B.
OOB: Your opinion took a serious hit when you touted Noelle Mannen as good player. Take a seat and let those with a better grasp of talent speak their mind.
Heh, heh, plenty of seats for everyone here, bub.
I merely appreciate her hustle, team focus, and defensive intensity, seems Rueck does too.

I don’t celebrate her for her absolute and steadfast belief in atheism… because nothing she wrote made sense.
Hello?
There’s a product made of play dough and imaginary bullshit that’s stronger than steel?
And there’s a whiny bunch of rich fucks?
Well… sign me up.
“Those with a better grasp of talent”
Lol, who might those be? Everyone on angrybeavs of course has a better grasp of talent than most coaching staffs at OSU so we have all earned the right to proclaim who is and isn’t talented. No exclusivity on angrybeavs , please
It’ll be interesting to see how Nike’s new OC operates. They made Nix’s life pretty easy last year (compared his Auburm years) and played to his strengths. I could see that kind of system making it easier for a talented, but inexperienced backup to come in and be productive.
Also curious to see the OL another year removed from Super Mario (and with a new OL coach). I have a suspicion there will be some drop off there.
You’ll probably see one publication list OSU as a pre-season top 2 team just to create some buzz. I think we have the least impactful departures of any team.
We’ll see who they hire for their OL coach. Certainly can afford anyone they want. Klemm was a big loss.
USC won’t finish in the top 4.
are we talking about water polo?
Nobody is talking about UW, even though their defense will substantially improve next year.
UW will be good team next year.
I figure it will be them and Utah in the CCG.
Then I refigure as a fan, and OSU will be there.
To be clear, I think USC likely makes it to October without a loss, though, that game at Colorado might be fun to watch for several different reasons.
They’ll be ranked in the top four in the nation at that time, and they’ll probably play .500 ball after that.
Yeah I don’t see USC losing less than 2 games, even if they get Washington and Utah at home. Funny how they don’t play at ND in November anymore.
Oh… but playing in Wisconsin in November will be cake.
well… for a year or two, maybe it will be
But have fun with that winter travel schedule.
I guess “Wisconsin” has dual meanings, in this context.
I believe the Beavs defense next year will be top 3-4 in the Pac 12 again. We lose a lot of pieces but we also have continuity in the coaching staff and last year was Year 1 for Bray at DC. You would think we should see some benefit from another year the defensive schemes.
With the exception of CB, we have highly rated talent backfilling the departures
Hopefully there juco kid can get in the rotation. Thomas and Robinson played well last year when they got time.
I think between them an Cooper they should be fine there but probably not as good as last years duo but have an easy early schedule to acclimate. The pass rush should take another step next year which will help.
https://justwomenssports.com/geno-auriemma-uconn-refereeing-basketball-issue/
Oregonlive has an interesting read on season ticket prices and how much they’ve gone up with the remodel. It seemed like a fair enough article but brought up some interesting points. I get that new stadiums take money and college football is big business. I just don’t like how the stadium is only ever like 80 percent full at best, get some more deals going on the nose bleeds so that young and/or more lower wage fans can come scream for the team instead of just leaving seats empty.
And stick visitors up there…at least Duck fans…
visitors section should always be in the upper corner from now on. Never in the lower bowl again.
SW upper deck… and wtf with opposing team’s bands?
Definitely the visiting bands. The Boise game was a debacle with their band stacked onto of our band. Later games were better as they moved the visitors bands up in the stratosphere.
No coming back into Reser after halftime? Boooo!
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2023/02/oregon-state-bans-practice-of-spectators-leaving-and-re-entering-reser-stadium-at-halftime.html?outputType=amp
Who has time to leave, after waiting for 15 minutes to take a leak?
You’ve never left the stadium to take a leak and then come right back in?
Actually, no.
Brings back memories of the dark years. Leaving to drink a beer at halftime, hearing the groans of the other team scoring a TD to go up 30 to start the 3rd and then just deciding to drink more beer in the lot
Hearing the roar of the crowd as we get a KO return for a TD to erase the goose egg.
Grabbing another beer.
That happened this year at civil war. Was outside when BG threw the pick and Oregon scored on the next play.
My “dark years” memory. Away game vs USC and noticed two women who were ~two generations older than I at the time, hobbling towards what was the Beavers tailgate set up:
“Oh,” one said to the other quite loudly as she peered up to the banner, “this is the OSU Beavers tailgater. We don’t want to go in there, do we?”
“Oh,” the other replied after making an effort to stop, to look up. “We most certainly do not.”
Then they both turned around. XD
(Coda: Yes, we lost horribly. By a lot.)
This is great. Time to act like a real sports venue.
All about $$$ force everyone to pony up for those second half beers
We actually have a reason to pay attention in the second half.
Why do we need beers?
Football without beer is like baseball….without beer.
um… if baseball only had 12 or 13 minutes of action in a four hour span… sure?
Finally figured out where Tinkle needs to go next
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/high-school-basketball-game-ends-with-ridiculous-score/ar-AA17eaU5?ocid=entnewsntp&cvid=a2cfaeda8fe643568ce9682f416fcd7b
USC used to run four corners against UCLA, during Wooden’s days.
Scores of 19-15 weren’t unheard of.
The Quacks and I believe Stanford did the stall tactics to The Beavs back in the early 80s. I think the good guys still won both games.
18-16 at Stanford in 1980
Did you find a Duck game in the 20s or maybe my memory is faulty?
Combine invites: Musgrave, Austin, Wright
Austin turning some heads.
For a team that wasn’t supposed to get any first or second day picks, it’s sounding like there might be some first or second day picks.
I’m sure you all caught this last year, but NFL front offices love this kind of person, as well.
Hmmm…
was hearing from a way unofficial source in Houston that SDSU isn’t the second ask of the conference, because Rice will be… unless the Pac locks up both San Diego and Vegas.
I’ll still believe it when I see it, but they make sense academically, and the baseball gets better.
Lol Rice. Rice has an even smaller fanbase than SMU. They bring nothing other than the fact that they’re in Texas. Why not consider Sam Houston State or UTSA while we’re at it?
They have money, and lots of it.
Their stadium is no joke, even if the team usually is.
The academics are sterling.
And I want to see the MOB and LSJUMB make competing halftime shows.
I am hoping for SDSU and UNLV to keep it West Coast. I don’t see the point in adding 2 Texas schools.
I’ve seen all sorts of wild ideas out there, including taking four schools–those mentioned plus TCU and Cougar High–now that the Big 12 is falling apart.
Saw that as a standalone (pac 14) scenario, and as deal to make a 20-team league, adding also SDSU, UNLV, UNM, Kansas, oSu, and Baylor.
Another pac 14 scenario I saw was Baylor, KU, oSu, and TCU, if they just wanted to poach.
if PAC-12 don’t take SDSU, Big12 will. Big12 been eyeing to get a foothold of the California market with the right shcool. Strategically, PAC needs to add SDSU to block Big12 intentions.
I expect they expand to 14 and sit tight waiting for USC and UCLA to ask permission to return within a 5 year timeframe, then add 4 more to make a 20 team mega conference.
I’d expect them to add in stages:
UNLV, Boise St, SDSU, Fresno St to get to 14
USC, UCLA to get to 16
TCU, Houston, OK St, Kansas St to get to 20
If USC and UCLA don’t return just add SMU and Kansas to backfill the schools and switch to an East/West divisions with
Utah, Colorado, Arizona, ASU plus TCU, Houston, Ok St, K St, SMU, Kansas
UW, WSU, UO, OSU, Cal, Stanford, Plus Bose St, Fresno St, UNLV, SDSU (If USC and UCLA don’t return)
This will weaken the Big10, Mountain West, and Big 12 and strengthen PAC12 and west coast overall.
Historically the PAC12 has done the opposite of whatever will strengthen them
Eek!
I’d rather have Hawai’i and UNM than Fresno and the truck driving school.
The next Pac-12 deal is expected to be split between a streaming service and ESPN. With the Pac-12 seemingly unable to reach its compensation target — believed to be approximately $30 million to $35 million per program annually — it appears to be urgent for the conference to expand as a condition of completing a deal in the monetary range it seeks….”

Watching a winner ain’t cheap. Season tickets cost breakdowns and examples:
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2023/02/oregon-state-is-rebuilding-reser-stadium-but-will-they-come-given-a-hefty-season-ticket-price-tag.html?outputType=amp
Yep, I am a season ticket holder. If you want nice things, you’ll have to pay. Part of the price is saving your back from sitting on cold metal bleachers for 3+ hours. I did not go for the new side. Looking forward to checking it out on opening day.
I will say the new west side premium seats look very good. Right on top of the action.
The sightlines from the west look good.
I like the boutique style.
Yeah, our seats are in section 120, row 25, to move to comparable seats on the west side will cost almost double. Ive already renewed our existing,, I’d like to peruse but don’t think I’ll be switching at that premium. When I renewed I asked if I could check out the new side seats before making a final decision, supposedly they will be offering virtual viewings available, in March/April. At the time I renewed they were still working on the software.
Spring game is where they should do it. That would get a lot of people there.
GP2 back to the Warriors. I liked following him on the Blazers but now he has a chance at another ring. I’m sure he will now be healthy instead of playing every few games.
Oh no. #7 UCLA travels to Corvallis tonight.
Good thing it’s on PAC-12 network.
The only thing more boring than the Blazers at the trade deadline, is talking about what the Blazers will do or did at the trade deadline.
I apologize.
No worries – we can talk about the Warriors deals all day! Go Dubs!
But honestly, year after year of hearing how the Blazers might be “busy” at the deadline and getting the basketball equivalent of the “Drink Your Ovaltine” message from A Christmas Story. I’d rather get someone who is killing it in the G-League than a bottom of the roster player from somewhere else. Blazer fans seem to fall for it every year.
24 minutes in, The Beavs have all of 20 points. Bruins 36-20.
It’s bad
Justin Boyd, already traded before his first spring training. Must have a lot of value. Traded to the Guardians from the Reds. If he rises fast, might see a Kwan and Boyd outfield.
Beavs down by 25 with 5 min left to play. We’ve got 2 assists so far in this game. 2 assists. You almost have to purposely try to avoid helping your teammates out.
Wayne Tinkle could kill a boner in the playboy mansion
Lol. We ended with 4 assists. Thank God for UCLA bringing in the 3rd string who turned the ball over 3 times in the last 40 sec or we would’ve had 40 pts in this game. Jesus christ this is some shitty basketball. You don’t even need a coach to play this bad. Who cares about his contract. No need to hire anyone. There’s no way this team could play worse without him.
Is this hearsay, or can you provide evidence that supports your position?
“Anonymous sources” so you know it’s legit
OT: Geno Smith, Seahawks QB, won “comeback player of the year.” What exactly did he come back from? Did he have an impressive career somewhere else and come back from injury? Hasn’t he always just been sort of mediocre journeyman?
He came back from oblivion for 7 years. That as far back as anyone has come.
Basketball in the state of Oregon is horrific. Blazers, Beavs/Ducks WBB/MBB, and pretty much all other colleges. If you want to see good basketball, check out some HS playoff games.
Oklahoma and Texas will be leaving the Big 12 after the 2023 season. The Big 12 is NOW going to seriously explore further expansion.
Kliavkoff better get his ass moving. You can vet the Big 12 is going to try and poach the Arizona and mountain schools.
Confidence in Pac leadership has not grown under Kliavkov. It’s been 2 years now right? And zero moves? If strengthening this conference by adding new schools isn’t in his top 2 priorities then the Pac is doomed. Perhaps the presidents are ok with moving the conference to obscurity and not prioritizing sports revenue but seems like a bad move.
Is sitting on his thumb while USC and UCLA bail considered a move?
The presidents have all ok’d expansion per the article I read the other day.
Latest rumor has SDSU and SMU to the Pac-12.
Saw that but if big12 goes after SMU seems like they’d rather go that route yes? Much better travel. Question on the presidents would then be why wait so long? Not to mention how long they backed and condoned Larry Scott. Ineptitude seems rampant tbh.
Travel has nothing to do with it.
Logistics be damned. It’s ALL about TV money. Why do you think the B1G wanted UCLA and USC? And vice versa?
SEC doesn’t need to do this as they are the top dog. That said, it’s naive to think you’ll be the top dog forever. The B1G is in prime position to take over the SEC.
The Big 12 sees this. They have TV markets all the way from the central US to the east coast. They want a piece of the west coast pie so the TV $ revenue is coming in from sun up to after dark on fall Saturdays.
The Big 12 is in prime position to strike. The Pac is not. Unless they get creative. Why do you think the Pac is looking at schools in Texas???
Pac leadership is not forward thinking. Had they actually expanded and added Texas and Oklahoma 10-12 years ago do you think they’d be in this position now?
College football is fucked. And Oregon State is gonna get left out in the cold unless they get creative and start being selfish. As much as we all hate on the ducks? At least they are forward thinkers.
It’s not a matter of if. But when.
The Ducks aren’t going anywhere we aren’t going.
Remember, the Ducks would essentially be Idaho State, without OSU insisting on them being included in the Pac 8, when OSU was begged to return.
No commissioner can manufacture fan interest that just isn’t there, hasn’t been there for a while and likely won’t come back ever to the levels P12 schools had before they were crowded out by pro teams in their markets.
the BIG12 and the PAC12 are in no position to poach each other. Can’t offer a better situation to any teams to switch.
This is exactly right. If the two conferences had any intelligence among them, they would get ahead of this whole and join forces to become the PIG18.
I do like the rumours of a Pac/ACC superconference type of deal.
No idea if it will happen or is being attempted, but it seems like a decent idea.
I have been back and forth on Tinkle, but I think the biggest thing you need to be able to do as a coach is win within your conference. Tinkle’s 56-106 conference record is really inexcusable at this point regardless of the nice things he has done. Firing him this season is tough, because we will likely lose the young nucleus we currently have. But with Tinkle, we usually lose a lot of that nucleus anyway. I am glad he brought our program out of the shitter, but it’s time to find someone who can win conference basketball games.
Hire the right coach and he can keep at least some of that nucleus together. The nice thing about basketball is you can turn things around really quickly by bringing in the right pieces.
I still can’t believe we passed on Musselman way back when…
I can, Tinkle had the better resume at the time. 3 NCAA appearances in a single bid conference and coming off four straight 20 win seasons. Along with a top 50 recruit son.
ASU wasn’t a top program at the time. Musselman did have the NBA credibility. To me, it wasn’t a clear cut choice to hire Musselman. I believe Ben Howland was offered the job before Tinkle. He pulled out because OSU wouldn’t match his dollar ask.
Bob DC went with the guy who had the NCAA head coaching background. Looked like a safe choice at the time.
Hires can’t just be made off resumes, though. If they were, any ab user would be just as qualified to make the choice.
Funny how two of the safest choices in recent memory–GA and WT–turned out to be anything but.
What made Musselman a better choice at the time of the hire? Just curious
Couple things – if a bunch of starters head out of town again after this year, I think you pull the plug. The Beavs decided to let Robinson go after Nelson and others graduated because the team’s main returning player also decided to transfer to Illinois (where he was a sub) and there didn’t seem to be a lot of momentum within the program.
And lets be honest, if Musselman was hired, and worked out – he’d already be off to another school by now. He hasn’t spent more than four years in the same job in the last 25 years, since he was with the CBA.
He was even then talked about in coaching circles as being excellent on the X & Os, only being weak in the recruiting landscape.
But he took the time before our last hire to address all recruiting issues he was seen as having, and he was primed to go.
His talent evaluation and management was clearly better than Tinkle’s, immediately after the hire, when Oliver never got a fair shake at OSU, but became an NBA-worthy competitor under Musselman.
Tinkle had a mid-major PG at a lesser-than-mid-major school… and a kid.
It was really a disappointment, especially after finding out the search was so far off, that we were considering Howland. I’d rather have Tinkle than that scum.
Plus, he’s turned out to be an excellent recruiter. You can usually tell in an interview if a person has sales chops or not.
He won’t be fired after this year unless someone steps up to buy him out. Not worried about players leaving as basketball can be rebuilt quickly.
Fun fact, CR has a better overall and conference winning % than WT.
I tuned into last night’s game for 5 minutes. Tinkle looks as tho this and last year’s teams have taken a toll. Camera panned to Lisa – may have been too short a time – but looked like she’d rather have been anywhere else. They have plenty of money – bow out gracefully?
“I am glad he brought our program out of the shitter”
???
Except for the players deciding to make a run in 2021, this is worse than Payne’s lowest lows. It’s not as bad as John, but like Jay, he can say we are worse off now than when he started.
Looking ahead to next season one of the bigger losses is leadership with the biggest leaders on offense and defense leaving in Grant and Kipper. Who replaces them in these roles? Uiangelei is a lead by example kind of guy. It seems like most of the players on this roster are. Not a lot of guys that seem to step up and be vocal leaders.
I think the Oline can potentially be better with the continuity and experience there. Have quite a few guys that can fill in for kipper in Brewer, Bloomfield, and stark.
Secondary is obviously taking a hit losing both corners but I think Julian is a step up from Grant athletically if he can return to form before his injury. Grant’s leadership can’t be understated tho. I think Cooper, Robinson, and Thomas will be pretty good but am worried about depth. The pass rush should take another step and help alleviate some of the pressure on the secondary. Throw in Bray’s second year as DC and familiarity with the conference and I think they still remain a top 3 defense. Especially since the offense should be able to control the clock and ball better.
Free safety seems like the biggest weakness on defense. I assume Arnold will be the starter.
It will be Julian and Oladapo as the starting safeties.
Smith says Julian is out for spring ball. Had surgery in the fall so someone else will have an opportunity to step up before fall camp.
Oof fall surgery? I assume that was a second surgery with his first in fall 2021?
Ya he’s been out a long time.
When i went to the OSU/Florida rally on the Friday before the Vegas bowl, I think i walked by Julian inside the Virgin Hotel/Casino. He was watching some table games and was on crutches at the time.
I thought Julian was CB1…
No, he’s a safety.
Well now we’re really thin at corner.
I never thought I would make this observation in my lifetime, but WBB is almost as hard to watch as MBB.
In a way it’s harder, because there are higher expectations for the women’s team and they have the talent to be Top 3-4 in the PAC.
Softball won their opening game against New Mexico, 2-0. Looking at the box score, there were a few names missing who were highlighted in the preseason as key contributors for this year. Don’t know if that’s a product of trying out different lineups early in the season or what.
They play a doubleheader tomorrow; first game against New Mexico, then LSU.
MBB has two points six minutes into the game. The game announcers quoted Big Tinks as saying there’s nothing wrong with the offense.
Right, the problem is always the other team’s defense.
They’re playing a little better, getting hopes up for the second-half collapse. Lead 30-25 at the half.
Who cares at this point?
The players, coaches, their families, and some fans.
Guess you don’t bleed orange huh?
If they cared why are they putting out a garbage product. It looks like they’re just going through the motions. Until tinkle is gone and they show that they care about the basketball program I assume every game is a loss which is pretty on point. At least I’m not talking about them negatively like everyone that brings them up.
Oregon State defeats USC behind big performances from Pope and Taylor Jr. Easily the best they have looked all year.
It was a nice win. I don’t think anyone here would have predicted that the men’s team would have more conference wins than the women’s team at this point in the season.
It’s wild to get a win with only 5 assists. USC should be ashamed losing to this Beavs team. Nice to get a win though.
There might have been at least 3 more assists but #24 missed that many gimme layups.
He’s 18 years old getting guarded by one of the better centers in the pac 12….. give him a break he played a great game..
At the beginning of the year I put the o/u for MBB at 6.5 then adjusted that to 8.5 after watching a few games. To see this team win 10 at this point is incredible given how poorly they are coached. Also, noticed Vegas has the Beavs o/u at 8.5 in football next year. USC and UW at 9.5, Ducks at 9, Utes at 8.5
Fooled you for a change, McKalk
Well, they almost blew an 11-point lead. I guess the part that fooled me was that they kept their composure down the stretch. The game was sort of an anomaly. The Beavs are not going to win many games shooting 31%. USC played terribly, yes we can give some credit to the defense, but not all.
It was a nice win for the Beavs.
Beavs probably missed 10 layups at the rim, USC didn’t figure out the matchup zone at all.
Tinkle switched to man to man with 4 minutes left and I thought he was going to blow the game just by the difference in USC demeanor against man rather than zone.
Ryvny hit the 2 big 3s to start the scoring again when they were stuck at 42 or so. Beavs had been up 11 then got stuck for several minutes as USC chipped away and got it down to 3 but Beavs got those big baskets to hold off a collapse mid second half.
Taylor was tenacious and attacked the basket and stuck with it several times for a outback layup.
USC hit a lot of free throws in the second half to stay in the game but the Beavs played well defensively.
It looked like Tinkle was plying 9-10 guys and not sure why Ryvny wasn’t starting. He seems to be the steadiest player on the team.
Tinkles in game antics are wearisome and project an unprepared team rather than an invested coach.
The crowd was decent but the student section has taken a hit since early in the season.
Fans want to back a winner and Tinkle can’t give them that. Time for change. This is the typical pattern to have a stretch of ridiculous results then one rabbit out of the hat to save his job.
I hope Tinkle exits gracefully after the season and gives Barnes a chance to create a fresh start with the mens program.
He’s a competitor. He’ll want to stay around under the pretense of “trending up” and having a strong young core.
Expansion speculation: Boise State, Fresno State? Tulane? UNLV?
https://www.si.com/college/stanford/.amp/football/four-potential-pac-12-expansion-candidates-aside-from-smu-and-san-diego-state
So tired of conference realignment talk. But I do hope they get Vegas in the fold.
Too bad they’d have to take UNLV to do it.
If UNLV is brought in, Nevada-Reno should be, too.
Yikes. Softball drops the Saturday doubleheader 8-0 to New Mexico and 12-0 to LSU. Then follow it up with a 6-3 win over Nicholls State and a 3-0 loss to LSU today. Scoring 9 runs in 5 games while giving up 26 runs in that same span is not an auspicious start.
*8 runs
What if Beavs fired Tinkle and hired Greg Marshall for a bit less and gave him a chance at redemption from his Wichita St departure?
Think the Beavs will use Bolden and/or Gould on those fake-in-turnaround-go-back-wide TDs KC scored twice on? They have the quickness for it.
Didn’t require much quickness, the Eagles were just plain fooled both times.
Its a nice call, and one I’m surprised hasn’t shown up more in the past.
Man Bradshaw: Do people actually enjoy him?
KC TE Kelce seems like ‘roid freak. Trying to characterize the Chiefs as disrespected is a bit much. I guess maybe that was because the FOX crew all picked Philly(?), but the betting line was close and it was going to be a close game.
Hey… at least now I know Franco Harris had a, “st-st-stutter,” that made him just laugh.
I hate that “disrespected” crap. These guys are millionaires playing a game, get a sense of reality.
The whole “we’re going to war, boys” bothers me, too. Stop it
I caught that, and my wife was actually surprised by my comment on Gronk’s quip.
She would not have been surprised by such a comment a couple years ago.
A game isn’t war. You don’t want a game to be war.
Shut the fuck up about war.
It’s a game.
Frankly, I thought the Eagles were going to win by 17+.
Glad to be proven wrong
I thought they would win by about 7 to 9 points.
But I also thought they would use their o-line for something other than a constant scramble drill.
Not the best use of your strengths there.
Just run the damn ball.
Speaking of insufferable, is there anyone that tops the Eagles’ head coach?
Baseball Opening Week!
D1 Baseball put out a preseason field of 64. Beavs get a #2 seed. It’s a reasonable projection to start.
D1 Baseball has Bazzanna, Forrester, Ferrer, Brown and Turley as top 50 players at their positions. Kmatz is #103 in starting pitchers.
Opening day lineup is hard to project with so many guys competing for spots and not a lot of clear choices.
Wild guess for starting lineup. In position order, not batting order
C – Smith
1B – Forrester
2B – Bazzanna
3B – Guerra
SS – Dernedde
RF – Turley
CF – Cedillo
LF – Kasper
DH – Krieg
I can see Weber pushing at C and Wheeler at DH as well.
Other than Kmatz, don’t really have an idea of where guys will pitch
I think that lineup seems pretty close. I bet Wheeler is at DH to begin, but Krieg does look good.
I’m guessing the weekend rotation is Kmatz, Trent Sellers and probably AJ Lattery.
So, you got Ferrer in the pen? Surely not saving him for Monday?
BTW, I think AJ is a solid choice for the rotation. Kmatz too. Sellers may just need more seasoning.
How many AB’s are planning to be in Surprise? First hand reports would be very nice to see.
Trent Sellers was on the Joe Beaver show last week and confirmed he will be starting in Surprise. Just wasn’t sure which game.
Is it really a surprise if he’s already talking about it?
I’ll see myself out
Pretty close to what Beav Blitz was protecting as well. Although they mentioned Wheeler at DH if he’s healthy. Honestly, the DH spot will probably be a revolving door vs having a full-time person.
I think Trosky is the biggest loss of those not making the squad. He provided a spark at the plate and was as good if not better defensively as Dernedde. I know there are a ton of question marks in the outfield but unless big strides were made in the off-season, Dernedde is the biggest concern for me. Started out playing good defense but mid to late season his defense was not great. Errors and terrible throws that 1st base constantly bailed him out on. Obviously part of the job description for 1st base but it felt like I was more surprised by a good throw vs one that was in the dirt or off target. From an offensive perspective he was just awful. At or below .200 for most the year. Not the production you want or need from your SS.
From a pitching perspective, Blitz had Kmatz, Sellers, Hunter and Lawson as the 4 likely starters…with Lawson more for that mid-week role. My plan is to attend the Sat/sun games so hopefully have some in-person feedback to provide.
Sellers to get the starting nod for Friday.
Followed by Kmatz on Saturday, per Eggers
Ferrer out for awhile with mono
Mitch’s preseason press conference
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbhjOyFY1tA
Canham said Trosky, Reed, Cope, Miller, Ferguson, and Hill are out for the year. Miller and Hill are true frosh. Don’t know who Ferguson is.
Such a bummer for Reed. Hope he can stay in it mentally. Gotta be tough to be such a high prospect then have 3 years of injury derail your career. I’d be surprised if he ever plays college ball. He’ll have been 3 years after this season right? He might be better off trying to get a low round draft pick if he wants to try the professional route out. Even if he’s healthy for 1 year I’m not sure how much that would help his stock in draft…probably would need 2 years of healthy play to really showcase his talents and ability to stay healthy and would he want to be in college for 5+ years? Really feel for the young man.
Tnx for the link.
Sounds like speed/baserunning will continue to be a priority, thankfully.
At 10:30…..speaking of one aspect of speed being the transition from batter to baserunner:“…every hit should look like a double until the defense forces us to take a single”
I’ve always liked Canham for being a Scioscia-like thinker.
The offense will take care of itself, except for those pitching duels. And the pitching duels usually set the tone for the weekend.
Three runs on a Friday could be a winner, and if all of them were manufactured, it doesn’t hurt my feelings.
That was an interesting presser. I wonder how “free” these guys feel like they can play. Mitch shared a story about McDowell and Dernedde making an error in a scrimmage and players thinking, how mad is Canham going to be? In this situation it sounds like he didn’t harp on it but it’s interesting that it’s the first thing that apparently popped into their heads. I’ve never spent time with MC or seen him at events not baseball related but does the guy have fun ever? He just always seems a little robotic…perhaps that’s just me. Kind of think Barney is super important in that dugout being a little more engaging and energetic, at least from what I’ve seen. Love the focus that Mitch brings but definitely have to find a happy median between work and play. Can be damaging to have everyone walk around with their butts puckered all the time. Anyway, perhaps I’m reading into it wrong.
Well that kind of intensity worked for Pat Casey.
Definitely leaning toward the Casey model
When does spring practice begin?
OT: College Football News has, for underclassmen:
Luke Musgrave as 4th best TE going in rounds 2-4;
Alex Austin as 18th CB going in 6th round as best case, free agent as worst case. I coukd see SEA, Dallas(?), or Philly taking him late for insurance, depth, development..
Ran into an NFL talent scout for Tampa Bay at my son’s HS basketball game on Friday. He was in town to meet with a Husky FB coach and attended the basketball game because he’s friends with the coach of my son’s team. I asked him if he had any thoughts on LM. He said he’s probably a late round guy or maybe FA if he doesn’t impress at the combine. He said, he better “kill it at the combine” because there’s a lack of production, injury history, poor blocking technique, and high percentage of drops. I hadn’t thought about the drops but he said that is a big deal for NFL scouts evaluating pass catchers. Used DK Metcaf as an example… apparently DK had a lot of drop and wasn’t super productive in college which scared a lot of teams away. Anyhow, I mentioned that I heard LM was projected in early rounds and he said that’s all media BS and he’d be surprised to see LM go before the 4th round.
Also asked if LM not finishing the year had any impact on draft position… said “it didn’t help his stock but that it probably wouldn’t be a huge factor other than the lack of production.”
That’s about what I would have expected and for the same reasons – drops are definitely a big deal (as well as penalties and other mistakes). Thanks for sharing.
And yeah DK is obviously a huge success story when you gamble on potential and it pays off, but there’s a whole lot of cautionary tales with raw players too.
I’m sure different scouts have different opinions on him, too
Tbf, he did have a lot of issues with catching the ball until this season. Really too bad about his I jury cause he probably was turning the corner in that regard.
Nice insight on DJ:
https://theclemsoninsider.com/2023/02/15/klubnik-talks-qb-situation-last-season-super-special-relationship-with-uiagalelei/amp/
Both sound like impressive young men.
Interesting in light of the news out of nike, Klubnik sees the character of the Clemson operation in their recruiting approach. Had offers from several teams that would take him only on the basis of his stars; not Clemson, they had to know him as a person first.
Football recruiting for 2024 seems to be off to a slow start. I know a lot of times we fly under the radar, but I don’t see any highly ranked guys high on the Beavs. NW recruits especially don’t seem to have much interest.
Saw yesterday that we’re in final 4 with a 4* DB from Arizona. Beavs, ducks, UW and Kansas I think? Anyway, I wonder if that will pick up a little more in like 2-3 months.
Beavs are hosting a junior day on March 18th. Might start to see some movement there.
The spring evaluation period is when things will really start to pickup.
Ya players are still going to leave and there is still another transfer and signing period so needs are still fluid. When players get their feedback where they stand we’ll see some more players leave I’m sure. Way too early to worry about it.
One of the highest rated Duck transfers from the portal:
https://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/2023/02/oregon-ducks-receiver-traeshon-holden-alabama-transfer-arrested.html
Looks like Lanning really only cares about star ratings and not character. He’ll be gone in a couple of years when the an SEC opening comes up.
The article notes Ducks have 91 scholarship players. So still 6 more guys to cut loose
So 6 more arrests to go?
At a tailgater last year, I was told there are multiple convicted rapists on the ducks roster. I wasn’t given names. I messaged Conzano but no reply. Anyone have the resources to check?
If they were convicted rapists, seems like it would be pretty easy to look up registered sex offenders in the Eugene area.
Although probably a decent chance it could be drunken fans talking smack at a tailgate.
Beavs have Brewer who had his legal issues coming out of highschool.
It was a players mom. Could have had one too many claws. She said due to “the mom code” she isn’t going to make a stink about it.
Chris Beard is now available to coach bball. Cleared of felony charges in his domestic issues.
Circumstances around that case are still really shady. They dropped the case in part because of his fiancée’s wishes.
It still reads to me like a highly dysfunctional relationship and possibly abusive. That or his fiancée is nuts and he’s staying with her anyway, which means he has bad judgment.
Or she give one hell of a hummer?
Basement Bargain
That train derailment and subsequent chemical release in eastern Ohio is an incredibly sketchy situation. Talk about regulatory capture.
Nothing to see according to the authorities and rail companies. I’m sure all of that farmland will be unaffected by thousands upon thousands of gallons of chemicals being dumped into the river systems. Either supreme negligence, tragic idiocy or pure evil and I lean towards door number 3.
Chemical warfare sounds about right, if it happened in Ukraine our government leaders would be howling about Russian troops using chemical weapons of war but in Ohio, the response is the air is fine within 10 days. Unbelievable damage is happening to the farmland and water supply for millions downstream and it will be a problem for 15-20 years for health of residents and farmland production.
Whoever decided it was expedient to light it all on fire needs to be investigated and imprisoned. Not surprising that Blackrock and Vanguard own the railways also. Some of the chemicals weren’t even labeled in the manifest so someone is either running illegally or just did it purposely to create maximum damage to the heartland. Ridicule the conspiracy if you want but it isn’t a normal event to drop a nuke on small town America just to keep trains going.
If anything has been proven by the responses, I’d say EPA regulations are highly intrusive and subjective if this isn’t an issue but digging in your own stream gets a major lawsuit from EPA goons.
It’s my understanding that DeWine and local authorities signed off.
Looking back at the last 2-3 years it amazes me that people actually believe anything that our government says. I agree Ohiobeav- door number 3. They burned Poly Vinyl Chlorate, nasty cancer causing shit. They torched it and called it a controlled release of toxic fumes.
Yep, totally controlled.

“…but it isn’t a normal event to drop a nuke on small town America just to keep trains going.”
Sorry, but which country have you been living in?
I live in the USA, and this is precisely what is meant when those who see reality say the heartlad votes against their own interests.
Shut the fuc up, because this is what you voted for… because the gays and abortion.
Just shut the fuck up.
Did you think that is coherent? What are you trying to say? Nice to be on an open forum where different points of view are considered. Thanks for your kind admonition to shut up, but I think I will continue to think for myself and speak as I choose, but perhaps not as much as you do.
It’s perfectly coherent.
Until morons stop electing asshats like JD Vance, they won’t get representation that wants to abolish the EPA, the Department of Education, Social Security, and Medicare.
“Oh woe is us,” cry the morons. “Why do corporations do exactly as the libtards say they do to us? Why don’t the libtards fix this? We need to keep electing people who say they’ll abolish the EPA, the Department of Education, Social Security, and Medicare. That’ll fix it.”
I’m done being tolerant of this moronic shit. These people MADE THEIR FUCKING BEDS, AND THEY CAN LIE IN THE FUCKING BEDS THEY MADE AND CONTINUE TO MAKE!!!!!!!!
I’m done. I have zero tolerance left for these shit-flinging white supremacist asshats who hate even their own government so much they keep sending these fourth grade bullies to represent them and then wonder why theuy get fourth grade representation.
Done.
Fuck off with your newly found NIMBY concern.
Also, the solution for health remediation for the victims of their own voting would be to call the CDC and get them on the ground.
I imagine all the antivax brainfarts that pose as people will welcome their help, now.
But afterward, the CDC needs to go to jail… amirite?
So fucking sick of the absolute stupidity of people not taking responsibility for their own actions.
You get what you vote for.
Exactly right Jack. You get what you vote for. Thanks for helping put the walking vegetable into the White House. I love your white supremacist comment. Just more proof of your complete disregard of what is in front of you. But you sure got the latest narrative down. Your like Baghdad Bob from the Iraq war. Let me fill you in Bob.
The vaccine was said to keep you from getting the bug. It did not do that. Not even close.
Burning poly vinyl chlorate is stupid Bob. Rant all you want. Its stupid, and you believe the people in that area deserve because they dont vote like you. Perfect.
I didn’t vote for Joe Biden.
Dude’s a bankster whose only accomplishment has been getting the MBNA and DuPont nods of favor for pretty much the whole of my life–giving him the mythical powers of seniority. He was the right wing candidate in his first Senate run, against the GOP candidate, and not much has changed.
Why would I ever vote for that?
JD Vance knows Columbiana County. With all that fracking going on, why would they need trainloads of chemicals?
This is absolute stupidity.
Of course the EPA won’t drink the water in that part of the Utica shale, JD, you nincompoop. They were finally able to do groundwater studies–see: Halliburton Loophole–and they magically discovered fracking might contaminate it.
Who the fuck knew?
I mean… besides the people who voted for it in their own backyard.
I read Mike DeWine also signed into law bidding off state lands for leases, as well.
So… good luck with that.
Oh… it isn’t that they don’t vote like me.
It’s that this is what they voted for. This doesn’t happen overnight.
They have had that choice for all of my life, and apparently Ohioans want their rivers to be on fire… still.
Stop complaining about what you have created.
There will be help, because the rest of us aren’t selfish pricks just wanting to score Jesus points.
And YES!!!!!
ANYONE WHO VOTED FOR DONALD J TRUMP VOTED FOR WHITE SUPREMACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s not even an argument, at this point. You voted for Stephen Miller to be your Golem, period.
You are as evil as he is.
He is a shit person who created shit racist policy, and he would continue to do so, if given the chance.
Why he was ever given that chance is the question anyone should ask of the white supremacist candidate, Trump.
He’s a fucking white supremacist.
Know it now.
Understand it.
He’s his father’s son.
Except he’s really reall really stupid, on top of it all.
So… are you for stopping fracking in Ohio?
Or are you posing?
There was a time in the 60’s and 70’s when hundreds of thousands would protest for more stringent environmental regulations, and real progress was made.
Now major environmental organizations simply tweet “we should hold our politicians accountable”. Pathetic. Another sign of a failing empire.
It’s obviously not because of regulatory capture and “operations” like Cointelpro.
People are still doing good work… to the horror of some hayseeds.
Let’s also not pretend that the 60s and 70s weren’t environamentally much worse than what we have now. Even CAFOs are better than whole rivers on fire.
Invasive species are almost as big a problem as human degenerates, at this point.
I don’t disagree. There were serious problems mitigated thanks to good regulation that even persist today.
Yet, despite all of the lessons we’ve learned from the past and around the world, we still think that having dual-purpose federal departments responsible for ensuring public safety and serving the interests of corporations simultaneously is a good idea.
It is a contradictory philosophy that always fails.
That’s a broad subject which will just conclude with me saying campaigns should be publicly financed.
NEW THREAD ??
Finally, baseball starts tomorrow. I’ll set up a thread to post tomorrow morning, angry can delete it if he already has one planned.
Oregon State minus 13 tonight? C’mon man!
Road game. Beavs have won 1 in like 2 years. Also, we’re really bad. Seems like a safe bet to me but who knows, perhaps we’ll shock the world.
Hey now. We’ve won two this year.
We’ve won 1 road game vs Cal this year. What’s the other I’m missing?
You’re not. That’s it
Wazzu is already up 14-7. Why is there always some obscure opposing player who banks in a three against the Beavs?
Down by 14 at the half. Yikes
Wazzu made their first eight threes, so much for the improved defense. Something about these ESPNU announcers seemed off, now I realize they are doing the game remotely!
Turns out -13 was too low
Wait Beavs we’re favored by 13?
Any recommendations for how to listen to the game tomorrow? Is new Mexico supposed to be any good?
We’ve historically handled New Mexico in these tournaments but we shall see how it shakes out.
New Mexico is picked last in their conference so no, Minnesota second to last in the BIG10. UC Santa Barbara will be the test. They are picked to win the Big West.
1240 kjoe, pregame starts 45min before game
UW getting paid $500k to not play tOSU. Can Barnes get us a deal like that?
