Interesting Wilner Article / Spring Camp Day 2

32

I’m not in the business of being an aggregator or re-posting content (leave that up to the BeaverBytes of the world), but I ran across this on twitter and found it interesting.

For those of us so excited OSU ran into a 22mil windfall (and I do think they and WSU benefited most in the Pac-12), the conference as a whole is still well behind the SEC and BIG 10.

I don’t agree with Wilner’s conclusions that it will preclude the Pac from hiring great coaches — every team in the conference has a good to great coach, so we know it’s false so far. And he also fails to mention the Pac is doing better than the ACC and Big 12. But still, interesting and slightly thought provoking piece.

Also, feel free to discuss spring camp day 2 in this thread.

  1. GA announces he will start all the walk-on’s in the season opener. They will play until we are behind.

  2. Just remember everyone, that the 22 million isn’t all new money. OSU was getting somewhere around 10-12 million in TV already before the PAC12 network. However a lot of the new money is tied up to paying down the AD debt.

PAC12 does need to get the deal with Direct TV and any other cable companies done to expand the exposure. I mean I’ve caught myself watching some stuff on the SEC network. PAC12 network has some great shows and people outside the region would watch them.

    • OSU was getting somewhere around 10-12 million in TV already before the PAC12 network

That much? I thought it was more like 5 mil.

    • I like those two graphics of offensive and defensive expectations. On top of GA talking about winning championships it sets a clear goal / vision for the team.

      • How about little benny beaver head stickers, to put on the helmets, like tOSU does with buckeyes?

…or psycho beaver heads, could be put on upside down, cause some talk…

    • Sounds a lot like my strategy for my Dynasty on the NCAA football games. It always worked well for me so I have high hopes here. ;)

      • Fuck Riley. I’m tired of hearing his name. He’s gone!

Leave him out of anything having to do with the Beavers, it only brings up bad feelings and memories.

    • Love the comment about Armstrong laughing off the idea from Langsdorf that they wont use Armstrong as a running quarterback.

“He’s a dual threat QB, but since we know nothing about that type of offense, we’re gonna force him to learn how to be a pocket passer only, rather than forcing ourselves to learn how to use him.”

I can see it now. theyre going to rubberband his ankles together

      • that’s the most remarkable line, but close behind are (1) “we never had a guy like Armstrong” (begging the question: why not?) and (2) the “chalkboard in Riley’s head.” This is going to be so much fun, especially, as someone in here (maybe Angry) said earlier in the winter, that after having Riley’s genius thrown at us for a decade we are entitled to enjoying seeing him fail.

    • Wow. They’re propping him up like he’s a genius. Wait til the shitty recruiting classes and bad losses start piling up.

    • Something interesting about OSU and Nebraska.

Record vs ranked opponents since 2000:

      Nebraska (19-38-0)–0.33333
      Oregon St. (19-41-0)–0.31667

Seems like Riley should at least be able to continue the Nebraska tradition of the last 15 years. :D

  3. That Riley vid was so bizarre. He still has that detachment issue that we saw here the past few years..

I hope that it looks …… We’ll probably go out there and do… What you hope to have is…..

There is no sense of control with him and what should be HIS program. Its so strange. Its Such a stark contrast to hear GA and crew speak with such conviction and purpose.
