  1. Speaking of the busy June recruiting schedule, here’s a list of the confirmed official visitors I’ve gathered so far, as well as some unofficial or guys who intend to visit but don’t have firm dates set yet. And keep in mind, these are all subject to change as players and teams seem to change their plans almost daily.
For instance, I’d imagine any QBs on this list could easily not be visiting any longer, since we picked up Travis Throckmorton.
Also, after reading Ohio State plans to host 15 Official visit the first weekend of June, I’d imagine this list will continue to grow quite a bit as we move through the month of May.

    June 4th:
    Jerrale Powers – WR
    Hudson Cedarland – LB
    Dave Iuli – OL
Josh Rogers – Texas A&M DT Transfer

    June 7th:
Nate Johnson – QB (doesn’t make sense anymore, I’d expect this to be cancelled)

    June 11th:
    Luka Vincic – OT
    Noble Thomas Jr – CB
    Shakaun Bowser – OLB
    Ryan Otton – TE
    Jaylen Lewis – CB
    Ronald Lewis – CB

    June 18th:
    Colston Loveland – TE
    Sterling Lane II – DE
    Keith Olson – OL
    Damien Martinez – RB (commit)

    June 25th:
    Roger Carreon – OT

Date not set or unofficial visitors:
    Xavier Van – WR
    Hunter Lysholm – OL/DL/TE
Jacob Newell – TE (local guy, will unofficial visit which is usually the case with local kids. Possible official visit later in the cycle)
    Juan Wilson – WR
    Jordan Norwood – LB/RB
Andrew Savaiinaea – DT/TE/OLB (another local guy, so unofficial)
    Jacob Holmes – DT
Cole Prusia – WR (Local commit)
    Travis Throckmorton – QB (commit)
Melvin Jordan IV – LB (commit)

      • Jacob Holmes is a DT. Also, this is just the information I’ve been able to gather so far, but I wouldnt consider this a finalized visitor list by any stretch.

One of these guys was planning to come up for the Spring game and had flights purchased, but then cancelled when the team announced there would be no fans. And then the team announced fans were back on, but it was too late.
        Poor messaging

  2. On the transfer DT front, there seems to be a little more activity lately in trying to get someone to come to OSU.
Aside from Josh Rogers from A&M, who is supposed to visit in early June, I’m seeing OSU throw quite a few resources towards 2 guys in particular.
Jay Hardy out of Auburn and Golden Gopher Keonte Schad.
To a lesser extent, you can add recent Kansas transfer portal addition, Da’Jon Terry and Lamonte McDougel out of WSU.
All have quite a few teams after them, but at least it’s good to see OSU seems to be getting serious about making something happen.

Also could be a sign of Whitley’s availability for next season.

    • Weird, when i edit my comments it automatically moves the time stamp backwards so I get my comments to show up at the top of the page. I’ve got the “first” skeleton key

  3. Yo angry I’m just making a yearly donation. Feel free to remind next may but I did put in a calendar alert. I just dont want to complicate my paypal anymore than it is.

  4. Anyone know if campus buildings are/will be open Saturday? My daughter likes the Benny the Beaver picture book and I’d like to take her into some of the places she sees in the book such as the MU, Library, etc.

  5. Way OT: Anybody have recommendations for an inexpensive endoscopic camera to explore walls in a house. House built in ‘23 and looking at doing some remodeling, but need to know what’s there before going full destructo.

  6. I saw where one of Jacks’ favs, Lance Leipold accepted the head coaching job at Kansas. That is one hell of a challenge. Turner Gill went from Buffalo to Kansas and was axed after two seasons.

  7. Minor leagues about to start up again,

Adley and Cadyn starting in AA for Baltimore.
Larnach looks like he’ll start in AAA.

    • Twins AAA is the St. Paul Saints so I may have to check out Larnach. It’s a great stadium. Thx for the info!

  8. Any word on Glenn Taylor Jr. verbal? Read he is down to OSU and New Mexico. From what ive read NM is already 2 over the scholarship limit.

    • I’m already not looking forward to trying to keep all of the visit activity straight. I’ve put alot of feelers put to gather as much info as possible ahead of time. Those visit lists are going to be pretty fluid. Will pay off for the teams that have good admins who can arrange travel on the fly. Not sure how you feed recruita and families when youre hosting them during covid shutdowns. I’d imagine everything needs to be catered to make hosting simpler since restaurants have strict rules. Or maybe you pay the restaurants to set up nice outdoor seating for your group?

  9. Daschel posted the current mbb roster for 2021-22 earlier.
I dont know what Reichel is doimg, but he wouldnt count anyway since he would be a senior+ because of the extra covid year. 1 scholarship left. Not sure if they’ll add another body or save it, that’s alot of guys to give minutes to. Should be able to throw some pretty high energy defemses out there next season amd rotate guys to keep them fresh.

    Oregon State’s basketball 2021-22 roster:

    G – Dashawn Davis
    G – Gianni Hunt
    G – Jarod Lucas
    G – Glenn Taylor Jr.
    G – Tre Williams
    G – Xzavier Malone-Key
    F – Maurice Calloo
    F – Warith Alatishe
    F – Isaiah Johnson
    F – Ahmad Rand
    C – Roman Silva
    F/C – Rodrigue Andela
    C – Chol Marial

    • Taking a skeptical view it looks like another recipe for the transfer “portal go-round” after next season. Too many decent players, not enough minutes to go around. Probably just the way college basketball is going forward.

      • Kind of a good problem to have? But yeah every offseason is going to be like this.

If Tinkle can get the guys to buy in early, the rotation might be 10 guys.

  10. I don’t know much about a lot of these guys are there any other true point guards or good ball handlers in the group other than hunt?

    • Davis plays PG, but more of a combo guard. From the transfers we’ve been chasing, it seems like Tinkle wants to add another PG, we just haven’t yet.

Even if we don’t get anyone, Davis and Hunt should be able to platoon like Hunt and ET did.

  11. Hard to find much info on GTJ. Sounds like he’s a high energy, athletic guy with good length, but no real standout skills. 4-star rating is a bit surprising given what his late-cycle offer list looked like. He went from several P12 offers to mid-majors later on. Maybe he got lost in the shuffle due to COVID and having to move, but he moved to a pretty high-profile program in AZ.

    • Here’s the 247 scouting report on him:

Versatile wing with good size and length. Plus frame with plenty of room to get stronger. Best as a slasher due to body control and high level touch around the basket. Streaky shooter who is more of a weapon off the bounce. Sees the court very well and has a high basketball IQ. Size and length give him chance to be multiple positional defender. Late-bloomer who should ultimately be starter at high major level.

  12. Nice to see Tinkle win a recruiting battle.

Taylor played at one of the top high schools for basketball.

Hard to find any stats for this guy. Limited numbers for his Sr year. Seems to play a similar game to ET. Plays mostly below the rim but can dunk. Likely off the ball guard.

Seems like a guy who will have to battle hard to see any minutes in his first year. But certainly has upside to be a major contributor if he stays all four years.

  13. With the roster mostly finalized now, here’s how I see the lineup next year.

    C – Marial/Silva
    F – Alitishe
    F – Calloo
    G – Lucas
    G – Hunt/ D Davis

    In the rotation
    Andela
    Williams

That would be nine in the rotation. Everyone else is a bit of a mystery and will have to battle for minutes.

Rand has potential as his rep is a shot blocker and rebounder. Appears to have the most potential to play early.

Key-Malone – no idea. Doesn’t look like he’ll do much unless there’s injuries.

Johnson – will have to wait for his opportunity or earn it.

Taylor – redshirt maybe? Hard to see him breaking in a rotation filled with upper class men.

    • I doubt Hunt would like it, but he was nice coming off the bench. If the offense was off to a slow start, he came in with his energy. When the Beavs went on their run, every player that came off the bench brought something different and it caught the opponents off guard. Calloo better get that defense better otherwise he will lose minutes.

Is it dramatic to say this will be Tinkles toughest year yet of coaching this program? New pieces (just like year), expectations are higher, many good/talented players that he has to keep motivated and bought in to his plan.

      • Would agree, with expectations that the team can take a big step forward, this will be Tinkle toughest year. If he leads the team back to the tourney, that’s could be a permanent step forward for the program and future teams can contend for bids year after year.

If Hunt wants the starting job, he has to win it outright by improving his shooting and moving the offense. After the tourney, he should know he can play with the best. Now just needs to bring it consistently. I don’t expect much if any drop off when Hunt/Davis are subbed in for each other. Both can play off the ball too if they are on the court together.

        • My problem with hunt is that he seemed a little out of control at times. He was good at creating by getting to the rim but was always usually a block or a bad pass out. If he could play with a little bit more control and improve his shooting like bill said he could be pretty good. Also needs to learn how to create space to finish around the rim.

          • His postseason play was much better and hopefully he realizes he can play at the high level every game. It did seem like his turnovers came at the worst possible times though.

Hunts stats starting in the pac12 tourney,
            20 assists, 7 turnovers
            Shot 32 percent
            30 percent from deep
            77 percent from the line

Just queen kate keeping y’all safe!
Benton County has moved to the extreme risk category, NO FANS AT ALL will be allowed.

CORRECTION/UPDATE; Benton County was expected to be moved to extreme risk. Didn’t turn out that way, see below.

That rollercoaster ride has to suck! Feel for you all. I know Block 15 started shipping product direct to consumer, maybe that’s an option to help fill in some gaps?

    • It’s a little odd, but the Beaverathletics account originally posted there would be no fans, but they’ve since deleted that tweet. So maybe it’a not set in stone?
Either way, the media is running with it having no fans, so that’s the current messaging out there.

  14. It’s pretty cool to see Tinkle is clearly going after guys that are athletic and good defenders. Maybe that was always the plan, but it was less apparent when the coaches’ sons were taking up so many minutes. It’s a philosophy that at least worked this year neutralizing all the guard-heavy offenses we faced. Athleticism/defense is the key tool for just about everyone we’ve brought in this cycle (Rand, Williams, XKM, GTJ). Davis is the lone exception (though he’s supposedly a tenacious defender) purely because he seems to be good at everything.

    • I believe Tinkle said in an interview at one point this year to expect “even more athleticism in years to come” or something to that effect. I saw it at the beginning of the year. I told my brothers and dad (3 out of 4 of them are Duck fans…) after their first two games this year that this was easily the most depth and athleticism Tinkle has ever fielded. It was just a matter if he could put it together. He did, so kudos to him for receiving my message through the ether. Sounds like he has really adapted his coaching style and making Stewart the main recruiter has paid massive dividends. I think Ethan Thompson is one of the most underrated players to ever put on an Oregon State uniform. Replacing him is going to be tough. But we certainly look to have the horses! With a spot remaining!

  15. Biggest series of the year to date for baseball this weekend. At a minimum need to win series and sweep would be nice to make up for bullshit loss to open series against UCLA. I’ve watched nearly every play this year and have generally been pleased with Mitch’s coaching… but that game may have been the worst display of coaching I’ve ever seen from any manager ever. It started with holding Forrester up at 3rd and continued with the pitching changes that followed. That loss could be the difference between hosting or not making the postseason. And that’s on Mitch. A sweep against USC would put the team back on track for P12 title. Losing the series would likely put them on track for no post season.

    • We really should expect a sweep by the Beavs, this ain’t your grandpa’s USC.
They come in with an RPI of 111, BA of .252, and ERA of 4.34; all with a slightly weaker SOS than the Beavs.
Clearly, we should expect a sweep, but I doubt many who’ve been watching actually do have much confidence in that kind of expectation.

        • Wouldn’t hurt for fielding to be solid. Season avg is .67 errors/game; last 6 avg 1.5. Take out the 4 E performance last Wednesday and it’s 5 E’s in 5 games.
Still top the PAC at .982, but slowly eroding over the recent past.

Apparently, Benton County was projected to go to “Extreme Risk” but was left in “High Risk”.
So, fans are now allowed at 15% capacity for the scrimmage, softball, and baseball vs USC.

Note that both FB and BB are supposed to be broadcast on PAC12.

As you realize, this is all subject to the queen, she knows best.

Apparently, ESPN sucks even more now with “theme” nights for NBA:

“But if these theme nights succeed — or, more accurately, if ESPN gives us no choice but to accept them — then they’ll proliferate. Because ESPN is losing money and Disney is making money, which renders its four-letter subsidiary nothing more than a promotional vehicle for its parent company. This broadcast wasn’t conceived to see if dads could convince their five-year-olds to watch basketball games with them. It was conceived to keep afloat a Marvel franchise that has already run its course — was DESIGNED to run its course with the biggest-selling movie of all time in “Endgame” — until Disney can find a new cash cow to beat into the ground. And Disney is betting you’re stupid enough to eat it all up.

They may be right. But if they are, just know that I ain’t forgiving you for this s—t.”

  17. Wright makes “top 8 worst value picks” list.

Cowboys: Nahshon Wright, CB, Round 3, pick 36
Nahshon Wright had the lowest pre-draft grade from NFL.com’s Zierlein out of any player drafted within the first three rounds. Zierlein projected Wright as a 7th-round pick, or as an undrafted rookie free agent. His third-round draft selection shocked many analysts, including ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., who had Wright as his 44th-ranked corner. He was so lowly rated, he didn’t even appear on The Athletic’s consensus big board, which ranked the top 300 prospects (Wright went 99th overall). “I’m really surprised Wright went here, because I didn’t see a starter when I watched his tape,” Kiper said of this pick.

    https://www.sportingnews.com/us/amp/nfl/news/worst-value-picks-2021-nfl-draft-alex-leatherwood-nahshon-wright/

    • I don’t know a lot about what’s common for NFL teams regarding pre-draft evaluations. Like, if the Cowboys thought they might be interested in a few CBs, would they invite them to their facility and have them cover some routes against one of their receivers to evaluate their skills in person? It seems like that would reveal more than films.

    • 1

That felt like a classic Raiders draft pick to me: completely reaching on a guy based solely on measurables.

They have two chances. Slim and none. Have we watched the same team?

Just stop. You can dream all you want but short of circumstances beyond the Beavs control they will not be hosting a regional.

      • To host, they need to finish 8-4 in Pac-12 plus beat UP. That would be 38 wins and probably second in P12. Finish 9-3 in P12 win the conference. To do that they’d need to win every remaining series against usc, asu, UA and Stanford… I’d say they’re more likely to go 6-6 plus win UP. That’d only be 36 wins and puts them on the bubble. Losing series this weekend against USC and/or losing vs UP would be devastating. The only hope is Abel magically finds his groove down the stretch like he did as a freshman. It’s actually been a great year considering the lack of an ace.

        • Abel pitched well his last outing though it was somewhat short. He can’t implode with walks. What happens the rest of the way with Dorman is out of his control. Hopefully he finds his fastball location Friday night.

        • Is that bitch Meggs still on the selection committee? I think in ’16 the Beavs had 35 wins and finished 3rd or 4th in league and did not get selected. They better win a lot down the stretch or they are playing with fire if Meggs is still around.

          • Yeah, 2016. Bitch/Meggs made sure Washington was in, and the Beavs were not.

“The news that the selection committee did not give the Beavers an at-large bid to the 64-team postseason field came as a shock to the team’s coaches and players. A series sweep of UCLA over the weekend put OSU (35-19, 16-14 Pac-12) into a three-way tie for third place in the Pac-12 standings with Arizona and Arizona State.

Both Arizona schools were among four league teams picked for the tournament, along with Washington and conference champion Utah. Oregon State was the second team out of the field after North Carolina.

“Disappointed for my guys,” Casey said. “Disappointed for those kids that don’t get a chance to play in the postseason. I truly believe that they belong in and I truly believe that the criteria the NCAA selection committee uses to get people in and out, we met and exceeded those who got in and we’re not in.”

Oregon State had gone from a top 10 team to a group on the bubble in May after the Beavers dropped six of seven games, including five in a row for the first time since 2011. But after a strong close, the Beavers’ got their RPI (rating percentage index) up to 44 and felt comfortable heading into Selection Monday.

Among the issues that vexed Casey: that Arizona State got into the tournament as a No. 2 seed, and that Washington was selected over OSU.

The Sun Devils had a 43 RPI, one spot above OSU, and were swept by the Beavers in March. The two teams tied with the same conference record of 16-14, while Oregon State had 35 wins to ASU’s 34.

“I’m not suggesting they should be in or out,” Casey said. “I’m just suggesting if they’re in, how are we not in?”

He questioned Washington’s place in the field over his team given that the Huskies were 55th in RPI and lost two of three games to the Beavers in April.”

          • Thanks for the detail (I wasn’t too far off). I wonder if he’s still on the selection committee and isn’t it a WTF moment that an active manager was/is part of the tourney selection process? Does that happen in other college sports?

          • The fact they didn’t get in still pisses me off. Had they got in, wouldn’t have been surprised to see them win it all. That team was the most talented team in the country at that point in the season… pitching defense and hitting. Went on to prove it the following 2 years. That said, Megg is a POS but UW deserved to be in field… so did Beavs… it was the 20+ ACC and SEC teams that didn’t all deserve to get in. That’s what concerns me again this year. 36 wins might not be enough given the rating and ESPN selection committee

          • Utah somehow winning the conference championship didn’t help either, but it sounds like the committee would have pimped another ACC team with North Carolina getting in over the Beavs anyway.

      • @whiskey……
Just stop. You can dream all you want but short of circumstances beyond the Beavs control they will not be hosting a regional.

        A couple responses:
-“chance” is in italics for a reason, no dreamin’ going on here
-the point (ill worded as it may be) is that the Beavs actually do have a degree of control, much more than if they had already played Ariz and Stanford.
-I’ve watched the team and agree their chances are slim and none.

  18. Football thought, for the first time I can remember there isn’t a single player on the team that is irreplaceable through depth. So many seasons under Riley were completely derailed by injury of 2-3 key players. I can’t think of anyone on the team who doesn’t have a game ready backup. Well except Hayes.

    • Jordan Whittley? Big dropoff there if he can’t play or gets hurt.

Not proven yet but I have a hunch that Beason will be really good this year. There should be decent depth behind him but I think he’ll really stand out among the WR and on the team generally.

But overall I totally agree. Very strong depth across the board. I think the biggest factors that’ll swing this season will be Whitley and whoever starts at QB. I really hope that Nolan or Gulbranson runs away with the job, because I’m not sold on Gebbia. He’s OK but has accuracy issues that I think will always limit him, and I’m not sure he’ll ever be consistent or reliable. I think he’s an optimal #2 that can come off the bench to win games if needed.

      • Gebbia needs to have that Matt Moore moment where the game slows down and clicks. I see him right on the precipice but never clears it. If he does he’ll be great.

      • Did the ball get down the field with Gebbia? Avg yards per play in the four games he played last year was 5.7, 3.5, 7.4, 6.9. I believe that was lower than the opponents qb in all four games. Need to get that top end off the d on some plays. Also helps if there is a speedy receiver to get down field.

        • It did when we had fast receivers in. Taylor, Beason, Champ, etc. are not burners. Harrison, Lindsey, Irish, and Gould open things up more.

      • Saw that, and that’s big imo. He should now be the clear 3rd string, and as such he should be active for games and have a handful of touches. Plus he’s an injury away from a significant role.

And honestly, for his sake, a slow introduction to the NFL is good for him and his career. The career of an NFL RB is so ridiculously short. Saw a crazy stat the other day: for top-12 fantasy running backs over the last 3 years, the oldest of the group was 26 to start the season. Average age was 24.3 . Even the really talented guys are tending to be done right around when their rookie deal expires, so they never get the big money contract.

All that to say: a delayed start to his career with limited hits could make him a lot of money.

        • Zeke Elliot is started to look pretty spent up. They are all competitive guys so I get it but if I was a top RB I’d be all about the team having a solid backup and limiting my touches. Your right a slow start to Jermars career could benefit him long term assuming he eventually gets a chance at a bigger role.

          • RBs really depend on their line now. Few RBs can create something out of nothing. Zeke is more or a product of his line being decimated with injuries but with age, he’s only got one or two good years left. Detroit picked Sewell who is projected as a cornerstone for years.

JJ should see a ton of carries in the preseason to show off what he’s got. Pass pro is the way he’ll make it in the field and he’s been pretty good there.

          • No doubt the line play has been a factor for Zeke but he has also lost a step. Sewell should be a cornerstone for years to come. Both Williams and Swift are solid all around backs so I don’t think Detroit will be a team that runs specialized backs it will probably be more a Swift being the bell cow with Williams spelling him for a series here and there. Jefferson fits the same mold in that he is solid all around. I mean if he looks that good he could pass Williams on the depth chart but my guess is it takes a year or two for that to happen.

          • Agree on Swift but teams never have only two RBs active on game day. Too much injury risk. You’d want a third guy for options in case one (or both) starters went down. If there’s a key ST player who also plays RB though, that guy could take the 3rd spot.

          • Yeah, that is why I think it is an uphill battle for Jefferson to be active on game day. Detroit has a FB so they will likely go 3 RBs at most. They will likely want more of a ST or scat back is my guess. JJ’s skill set is too similar to Williams and Swift.

    • I think that’s the cap until training camp starts(or possibly fall term?) I know they can add more after a certain date but forget what that cutoff is.

      • There’s a roster limit until fall classes begin, 105 I think. So there would be room for 20 preferred walk ons per year. Once fall classes begin, they can add as many living tackling dummies as they want.

    • When I first read this, I thought it was referring to a rules experiment like baseball has been doing in the minor leagues. Then I realized: getting rid of punts would probably reduce injuries and it would definitely make football more fun to watch.

    • Great to hear that he’s getting a shot at college coaching, and I think he’ll be very successful. He found an edge in coaching and used it aggressively.

  19. Gut bomb time:

    added another official visitor.
Keith Olson, OL from Napavine, will be here the weekend of June 18th.
I think he’s likely to commit to OSU that weekend.

    • Seems like a shoe in considering his Dad is Kurt Olson.

Edit: NB I love the way you organized the visits on Twitter.

  20. per Kendall Rogers…………

he NCAA will have predetermined Regional and Super Regional sites for the 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament, sources told D1Baseball on Monday.

The move by the NCAA comes as no surprise to anyone who has been following NCAA championships so far during the current academic calendar. Though championships have varied in different Divisions, the one constant at the Division I level has been the presence of predetermined postseason sites.

That approach, with health and safety in mind, is coming to college baseball.

Article is behind a paywall and I’m a cheap bastard, so…….

I can guarantee with state restrictions in mind there will be ZERO host sites in Oregon, California or Washington. Arizona is probably a go.

You can bet your left nut that a fuck ton of host sites will be in the southeast.

    Don’t shoot the messenger.

    https://d1baseball.com/columns/rogers-diving-into-the-ncaas-decision-for-predetermined-postseason-host-sites/

    https://twitter.com/KendallRogers/status/1379179314558681091

    • If there’s ever good timing for this sort of thing, this year is probably it. Oregon State doesn’t deserve and wouldnt have earned a host site anyway, and probably only Oregon and Arizona will. So Arizona probably keeps it and Oregon gets a 1 seed but has to play in Texas or some other far off location. Sounds good to me.

      • Youd think “with health and safety in mind” they could just play anywhere and just have zero fans in parks. But we all know this means playing only in places that will allow for the largest crowds to attend.

      • 1
