Petition for Bob DeCarolis to Resign

69

People have called for this in the comment area, so I took it upon myself to create the petition. Change.org sends Bob an email every time someone signs the petition. An email also goes to Ed Ray.

You can sign the petition here

I acknowledge this past year was good (by OSU's low standards), but I signed the petition because I do believe Bob D holds OSU back, and I feel he only cares about large donors (e.g. I had to write him and explain that I wanted to make a $20 donation, yet the website only accepted $40 donations).

Everyone share this petition on Facebook, Twitter, O-live, etc.

Also, I can make more petitions like this in the future if we need them. It's a good format because emails are sent each time someone signs.

  1. He did not hire Jay John. He gave him an extension though.

Overall feel like the description is ridiculous.

DeCarolis has a dry, abrasive personality which makes fund raising difficult. For example, OSU fell well short in their “12,000 by 2012” campaign, an effort to find more donors. DeCarolis has earned the nickname “De Care Less” because of his indifference to the average fan’s opinion; he only listens to large donors. For all these reasons, Bob DeCarolis must resign. If he doesn’t resign, Ed Ray needs to fire him so OSU can progress.

    Just the guy isn’t innovative.

    • That’s not ridiculous. 12,000 by 2012 was a flop, and a lot of it had to do with people not liking Bob D or him only acknowledging people when he wanted money (the only time I get OSU mail is when they want a donation). Feel free to write the Langsdorf petition. If you email it to me I’ll post it under my account.

        • We’ll never know since the campaign sorta just …disappeared (kind of like Bob D, who refused to do interviews, during the 3 win season) as it became obvious they’d be well short.

          • Yeah, we’ll never know if the economy impacted a large-scale fundraising campaign that was undertaken just as the economy (both in reality and perception) tanked. If only Bobby D would do an interview and tell us.

      • it should have read that BDC has accomplished many things during his time at OSU. Such as raising reser and the basketball practice facility. However, this accomplishments barely keep us in competition with our opponents and each took far long to accomplish than they should have taken. As well, OSU continually follows what the other Pac 12 schools do (generally 5-10 years behind them) instead of ever becoming a leader. The programs he does get credit for such as baseball and football are mostly credited as success for the coaches who built them and both casey and riley were in charge before BDC. BDC has made some good hires (gymnast, wrestling, riley 2), but has also made awful decisions regarding Jay John and LaVonda Wagner that cost the revenue producing football team 2 wins (penn state/TCU) and continues to follow this path with his unwarranted contract extension to Craig. BDC is also unwilling to hire innovative employees or allow alumni to aid in helping build OSU to its fullest.

  2. I’ve always thought that both DeCarolis and Riley lacked the aggressive killer instinct needed to win big. But then last night Jim Nantz says that the New England Patriots haven’t even run a fake punt since 1999!! Maybe OSU isn’t as conservative as it seems.

  3. Both De Care Less and “Barney Fife” Riley are responsible for the mediocre football program at OSU. We should have started aggressive fundraising for phase 3 of Reser stadium years ago and the 1012 Alamo Bowl reflects Mike Riley’s inability to coach 4 quarters of a football game. Until we get rid of both these “has beens” what you see is what we will get. No more.

Another big problem is Beaver fans seem to settle for mediocrity……go figure.

    • Yes. He has needed to go for a while.

I think the basketball team will be better next year, but that doesn’t change anything. Biggest issue with Bob D is he thinks like the majority of fans (e.g. hard to recruit to Corvallis, any bowl game is fine, etc). Pretty bad to have that attitude at the top. With all the TV money coming in there aren’t any limitations anymore.

  4. We need more signatures. Only 18 people are sick of Bob D? I guess I’m in the wrong, and he is a fantastic AD? Come on, AB-lettes, get out there and FB this petition, Tweet, share it with your friends, etc. Not a single person has retweeted my original tweet. It makes the dissenters who demand change look bad when we have 18 signatures.

    • Maybe you are in the wrong here angry. I’m not a huge fan of Bobby D, but if you take a step back from the ledge, you’ll see that pretty much every sport has a quality coach, minus the Men’s baseketball program. C-Rob’s extension was a joke and the dude needs to go.

I wouldn’t mind getting a new AD, but try and at least be objective when you post this kind of stuff. The overall landscape of OSU athletics is in good shape and I hope to see improvement as the PAC-12 $$$ starts rolling in.

        • Now you’re searching around the thread for people who agree with you, so you can thumb them up and say they schooled me?

          No further comment required.

          • Hahahahaa. Searching around the thread? There’s been 25 comments so far, most of which have been by you or me. Yeah, it was a real quest. I gave them a thumbs-up because I liked what they had to say and because their name was TurdBurglar.

No further comment required should be the name of this post.

          • Ooh a jab at me. There’s only 25 comments, implying nobody cares about the topic, and I am a massive failure in life. Good one! Manipulation on the internet is fun. Really.

As the petition keeps chugging along, now at 22. 18 when you showed up. I told you your personality was abrasive.

          • Actually that was not a jab. Insecure much?

You do know that you calling someone abrasive is comical, right?

Holy shit, 22 people? You sure we won’t find that 13 of those aren’t just alter-egos of yours? “AngryBeav,” “ReallyAngryBeav,” “SuperAngryBeav,” “WhyDon’tPeopleLikeMeBeav,” “IJustKnowThatBobbyDReadsMyBlogBeav”…

          • You really think a site that exists for online petitions doesn’t allow only one signature per ip address?

            ^ PeoplewhoarebadattheinternetBeav

    • Frankly, your petition is infantile and out of touch and your arguments against Bobby D are just generally inaccurate (and unsupported). No need to try and enlighten you because you’ve proven it won’t take. Anyway, that’s why no one is signing it and why this post is ridiculous. Sad day for the site.

On-line petition? Really? Are we trying to save our favorite tv show or are we trying to discuss and follow Beaver athletics in an informed and meaningful way?

Clown suit time again. Oh how I love you begging folks to retweet you and sign your petition. Pathetic.

          • Way to thumb up your own ass.

You called the hire “underwhelming,” more negative than positive, and a “kerplunk” in that post you cited to. I don’t know how to search for your prior posts, but I also recall you killing Riley for not stepping up to keep Heyward and for not acting quickly to hire his replacement in other posts.

            You’re a clown.

          • Good luck with your petition though. I am sure the administration will be very receptive, especially given the 5-year extension they gave Bobby D in 2011 and all the praise Mr. Ray bestowed upon him at the time.

I do enjoy your delusions of grandeur, really I do.

Out of curiosity, if they do fire Bobby D because of this wave of social change you have triggered with the poorly written petition you crafted, do you have a Division Three A.D. whose name you can’t spell correctly ready to suggest as a replacement?

          • Ah yes, that pesky fundraising thing. How dare they do that, right?

Or how dare they spurn you for only wanting to pretend to donate $20?

  5. CR was a better hire than his predecessors, but he’s having trouble getting the program over the top and BDC doesn’t give a shit about basketball. CR wasn’t his first choice, but I think that CR was doing okay until this year, which I think was due to injuries, suspensions, etc. He’s had to fight for the facility, and change the culture of the program. Even CR expected to be better this year. Bob only cares about the money not the product and I don’t think the coaches in any of the sports are getting his support with his low standards.

  6. Gotta love someone who resorts to ad hominems calling something… anything infantile.

But I’ll play the “Who would we get?” game since it’s just a list.

Stansbury or someone internal immediately come to mind. But I’d take any of these five:
Mack Rhoades, Jim Fiore, Mario Moccia, Tim Pernetti and Scott Barnes.

Bobby D’s here for as long as he wants, so this is just spinning the wheels. But I also think “as long as he wants” will not span his full contract. Who knows?

    • An ad hominem is where someone ignores someone else’s argument and instead makes a personal attack. I called the argument/petition “infantile.” Therefore, it was not an ad hominem because I addressed his argument, not him personally. Interestingly, you calling me someone who resorts to ad hominems might be an ad hominem.

          • Nope… don’t need it.

An appeal to emotions rather than fact is an ad hominem. You appealed to authority then made your appeal to emotions based on that fallacy. In no way did you actually address the issue.

Nice try… well… not really… rather poor… but I imagine it was comparatively nice for you.

          • Clearly you do need to do some research. I refrained from calling you out too badly because I thought your remark, albeit totally wrong, was funny.

Appealing to emotions is a logical fallacy, just not this one. Also, I was not appealing to emotions. You just could not be any more wrong on this one. Keep up the good work though.

            Dipshit.

          • You don’t need to keep giving me fallacy-o. I’m just seeing how far you wanted to go with this. Paste fallacies on a dart board and throw some darts. You’ll hit something you’ve done, assuming you can semi-shoot darts.

You started with ad hominem and went from there. Deconstruct your argument and see if you can list the others.

Hint: I’ve already mentioned emotions (which we’ll just group together for now) and ad verecundiam. You commit at least four other fallacies along with your three repeat offenders. Good luck!

        • No, that’s pretty much the definition.

“an attack on an opponent’s character rather than by an answer to the contentions made.”

          • …I guess we will just wait a little longer for Jack to finish reading the wikipedia page on ad hominems before he admits he was wrong.

          • He wasnt wrong. Your infantile comment is a personal attack, it is not part of a logical argument or rebuttal. You seem a little loose and free with your concept of definitions. You did the same thing on the Langsdorf petition with your “silly and pointless” comment, where the petition was neither silly nor pointless.

          • Another kind of ad hominem would be something like, “I know him, and I just can’t believe he would say anything like that. So you must be wrong.”

          • I agree that your example may be an ad hominem. However, it is not synonymous with what I said. What I said was not an ad hominem by its actual definition (not a “loose” definition). Do you still think it was or have you changed your mind? I am confused.

      • Beavit……dude, you lack something here.

You said, frankly your petition is infantile. THAT….is a personal attack, not a criticism of the actual petition. Infantile implies written by a child, of inferior intellect, etc etc. So…you are stuck on yer own petard. Ad hominam meaning no actual argument, but personal attack instead…..and thats exactly what you did with the infantile label….

    • I’m pretty sure I saw this on an earlier post, but what are the thoughts of CR as AD? I think that job might better suit him rather than coaching.

  7. Dane Brugler ?@dpbrugler
Ill be surprised if #OregonSt WR Markus Wheaton doesn’t emerge as the top WR on North squad. So far, so good #SeniorBowl

    Good for Markus!

  8. fact is bdc has made some good decisions. Frankly I’m ok with the state of football, I think its in a stable, still building situation that most programs would be jealous of. Still have lots of room to improve but they’ve had solid success.

I give baseball credit to Casey and Casey only.

Its basketball thats been a disaster. Jay John and Craig extensions were straight dumb. Craig’s hire was fine because we were desperate but no reason to extend him AT ALL. He was locked in for like 3 more years at the time.

When he took over his priorities should have been 1. keep the football train rolling 2. get the basketball team out of the graveyard.

He’s done an ok job with #1, #2 is where he has struggled badly.
