  1. this is going to be unpleasant to watch regardless of outcome. could be a W though with moreland back and a chance to get a litte run started with the washington schools at home next weekend. from what i’ve seen, they both pretty much suck. i worry though about that 7 footer dedmon blocking like ten joe burton hook shots. go beavs though woot woot.

  2. Do these idiots even do any research….Ernie Kent started by saying that Collier can step back and shoot the three? Has Devon made a three or even attempted one this year?

  3. Almost seems like the refs consider the Beavs as a “shit” team, they rarely get any calls anymore. Beavs down by 8, USC scoring at will. Starks playing the back line on the 1-3-1?

  4. at some point in the near future I am going to create a fire craig robinson page on facebook. I will link it here when its completed.

  5. These guys are playing like a bunch of sour pusses. What a pathetic mopey way to go into an Inauguration. The players have had horrible dejected energy the whole game, like no matter whatever shots they may make they still completely expect to lose. That’s horrible leadership by Robinson to let these players have shrugged shoulders like this so far in each and every one of their conference losses. Robinson probably will aschew the vibrant orange and black colored scarf for Monday’s big event. He looks like a joke right now clinging to some nice coattails and the easiest contract extensions west of the Mississippi. Can’t believe that this piss poor quality is all that Robinson’s connections can get OSU.

  6. Not only do we suck but we’re boring as hell. Our offense is pass around the perimeter for 25 seconds then throw the ball at the rim or commit a turnover. It’s time to make this shit interesting. Give everyone the greenlight from everywhere. I want a run and gun, 7 seconds or less, 3 pt barrage, zero defense mentality. We’re already halfway there so why not complete the deal. Who gives a fuck when we lose 150-65 if we’re jacking up 80 3-pointers a game. Maybe Joe Burton could make a cameo at the end and throw some lob passes over the backboard. Craig can still continue his substitution pattern of taking a guy out every 10 seconds so everyone stays fresh in this fast paced offense. Hell, we could even leave a guy standing under the opponents basket waiting for a hail mary pass after every possession. Anything is better then this pick-up game crap that’s going on right now.

  7. I thought Reid was a top tiered recruit? He can’t even get off his shot against this competition. There are freshmen around the nation leading their teams. I guess Robinson subscribes to the Riley quarterback theory of player development?

  8. not watching.

    Stan Musial died.

Lifetime Movie Network showing Casey Anthony story tonight at 8:00 for any guilty pleasure TV watchers like me out there.

…back to cover letters and resumes…

  9. Sticking with the zone is a good idea, maybe CR is finally realizing that the team is not talented enough to play man in the league. They still can’t rebound in the zone.

    • He threw it behind the player, thus off his hands, and then the Usc guy goes in for the layin and he ole’s and lets him score uncontested layup? WOW

      • That’s a good point, Goph. What has happened with Collier, he really struggles to get clean looks anymore. Everything is double-pump, odd angles, etc. Refs are not giving him shit with calls either and I think it’s because he looks so awkward.

  10. You simply can’t have Joe Burton inbounding the ball protecting a one point lead. That’s a big mistake on Robinson’s part. He makes horrible decisions and everyone knew what was going to happen. Moreland on final defensive possession should have been contesting, instead tried to take a charge and gave up an uncontested layup. Great. OSU just finds ways to lose games.

    • How do you recruit so many players who have no basketball IQ and have not developed it yet by the time they are 19 or 20? Did they have a timeout? Burton could have called time out, right?

      • They had multiple timeouts, I believe. Burton could have called a timeout but had a brain cramp like usual. That’s a play I’d just Barton inbound even with lack of height. Better option than Burton.

        • I doubt they had anyone going long or setting a screen to free up either Nelson or Starks to get the pass either. Wouldn’t CR tell Burton to take a timeout if nothing is open, so that they could see how SC was going to play it? Shit, I think my 3rd grade YMCA team had a better understanding of strategy by time we played 10 games.

  11. WOW! Brilliant play call and execution for the last shot!!!

Why do I even give half a shit about this team. Who the fuck are we going to beat this year? Utah? I’m sure that will be an amazing game.

  12. not going to get any calls, maybe had a dump off to Moreland

my play…inbound by burton with olaf, nelson, starks and collier on the floor

  13. I decided to turn it on when the beavs cut the lead to 6 in the 2nd half and was rewarded by seeing them snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. This team just finds ways to lose. Awesome job guys, so proud of you. Played with my emotions and tortured again. Like a junky in need of a fix I just can’t stay away.

  14. On SC’s final basket, it looked like Moreland did some kind of half-assed take a charge move when he should have just fouled the guy hard and take your chance at the foul line. Final play, why do you have Roberto throwing it in unless you are going to try to get a quick screen for him to come off of and take the three? It’s just thoughtless basketball, it drives me absolutely bat shit crazy.

    • Moreland should have tried to block the shot. He’s a shot blocker, he at least could have altered the shot, but nope, uncontested layup

      • Yeah, I didn’t catch it until I saw the replay. He was playing like someone who had four fouls on them with 10 minutes still left in the game. Bizarre plays from him and Burton. Kind of sad because they had decent execution on offense until the last play. Terrible defense, though.

    • That makes sense PBH since only ghosts of a Beaver basketball team inhabit Gill.

Sure glad I didn’t waste another 2 hours watching. I see the Beavs only went down 15 so you had to watch the whole thing. And Burton played 29 min so I don’t have to watch for awhile.

In other news, Butler beats Gonzaga at the buzzer at home and both teams turned the ball over in the final 3.2 seconds. Butler with a travel and with the game in hand a mis-communication on the inbound play and Butler comes up with the steal at 3/4 court and drove to the right elbow and scored.

  15. And with Utah beating the Huskies in Seattle no less, I can go to bed knowing that our Beavs are winless and in dead last place. It’s a great day to be a Beaver!

  16. Oregon State Basketball = U.G.L.Y. you ain’t got no alibi, you Ugly, yeah, yeah, you UGLY!
Will this team win another game? I think they will go 0-7 this week. Could this team match the 0-18 team? Why do Oregon State athletics have to be so painful to watch? Is it too much to ask to be better than oregon in something? (before you say baseball, they won the series with OSU, and were higher ranked with a better record……Yes, OSU went further in the playoffs)

    • Ummm… ok?

A split in the non-con games and an OSU sweep of the league series equals Nikegon baseball winning the series?

Them’s some pretty low expectations even for moral victory-ville. Dood! Only two of our five games were even close, and those were a split.

  17. What are you talking about? OSU swept Oregon in baseball last season, unless you mean two years ago. I think Angry should start putting the heat on Robinson like he did with Riley about his playcalling/recruiting. Riley is still a work in progress, but he’s improving, despite keeping Lamesdork on staff, while Robinson seems to have declined.

Face it folks, OSU can’t afford to pay Robinson off, so he’s here to stay. As for the assistants, that’s another story.

    • I’d put the heat on him, but I expected a bad season when Cunningham left, so it would be inconsistent. Next year I’ll get on him. It seems like the younger guys aren’t developing so unless a light goes off I think it’s more of the same next year.

It’s funny you call Riley a “work in progress” after 13 years…

      • I meant it to be funny because Riley is a work in progress after 13 years. He had a couple bad years but with a string of good recruiting classes, things have gotten a little better. I just wish he would see the light on Lamedork and Banker and get some creativity on both sides of the ball. As for basketball, BDC needs to be fired and Robinson needs to get some coaches that can recruit, teach the fundamentals, and put solid game plans together, based on the personnel that they have. Collier and Moreland should be down low most of the time and screens should be set to create high percentage shots. They also need to greatly improve their defense, as this will help generate the offense, particularly in transition. I will continue to watch, but I’m already looking to baseball and LOI day in football.

      • Agreed. I don’t know why anyone here has any expectations for this team after Angus went down.

I know, one player shouldn’t make a difference. But tell that to Chicago when MJ decided he wanted to fail at baseball instead of succeed at hoops. Angus ain’t no MJ. But he is the only player on our team who can hit a shot from anywhere on the floor… and is the undisputed leader.

Just throw the young ones to the wolves and wait for them to adjust to this level. There’s plenty of talent, but there’s so little experience… unless you want to count our three juniors and one senior.

But hey! At least our women’s team might get back to .500 before they play someone real.

        • wow really? starks and roberto are elite distance shooters and no one was talking about angus like this til he got hurt. People mentioned him as one of the leaders on the team, mentioned him as a decent shooter, a guy with good size. I’m not sure angus ever won us a game.

now he’s shaq, with jason kidd passing skills, mj’s leadership and reggie’s shooting ability. Meanwhile Jared was the gary payton of last year…wait our team was mediocre last year and terrible on defense with both jared and angus. Now we’re awful without both. Big deal. We’re never making a tournament with the current coaching staff. New HC or big changes to staff needs to be made.

          • Angus has been our best shooter, and he took the lid off to start the year. Neither Starks nor Berke take the mid-range shots Angus can because of his height and strength. Berto has been getting better at trying, but he’s getting zero calls in his favor because the refs don’t give him his due.

Obviously he’s not a superstar. But he is a sure double-double who can make everyone else better.

It’s a moot point. The team is less without him, and they’re searching for something… anything to work. Nothing’s working yet. It will eventually.

It sucks that we had to bag this season only four or five games in. But that’s what happens when you have a program that doesn’t draw the elite recruits. This year’s frosh and the two coming in next year can be on that level. But they’ll still need one superstar to make them all a top team.

Angus wouldn’t be that guy. But he is good enough to take us from a 100-150 team to a 30-40 team. We just faced a UCLA team where three of their frosh are guys who would make us a top 20 team easily.

This is a throw-away year. I agree that the assistants should be shuffled. We need someone who can teach this team fundamental man D. The O is actually looking pretty good except that nobody can hold on to the ball and then they forget to make shot fakes when they fumble and recover.

But CR needs to do something next year or I’m out. He’s taken us out of the doldrums, but he has yet to show that he can sail with the tall ships.

          • wow ok.

Where was brandt in the kansas loss that every one was so excited for?

In fact no one mentioned him until he got out coached by altman. Its been down hill ever since

lets just hope starks get his head out of his ass next year.

this year is a throw away year? every year is a throw away year.

ucla is better than us. talent and coaching. luckily they didn’t keep their foot on the pedal. usc is just a bad team we didn’t have the focus to beat.

          • Ummm… he wasn’t there for the KU game. And that was just an anomaly brought about by adrenaline… nice but just nice.

I don’t think Brandt was out-coached by Altman. But you go ahead and think that and write it.

UCLA is not better than us in coaching. Therein lies a nice comparison for anyone with an objective view. Oh, but they have so much more talent.

I heard the Loves were angry that Westhead would even consider Nikegon go after their girl after their “fans” made such vile remarks about the females in their family.

Westhead apparently promised them no fans would show up to any games as long as she was there.

            He’s doing a good job.

  18. Just got back from the coast with a haul of Dungeness that I’m going to have to give away about half within the next two months… unless I eat them like I have the last two days.

Ugh! I can feel my arteries turning into cholesterol.

I’ve only seen a couple replays from yesterday’s game, and I have to wonder why Moreland was in the game at the end. Yes, he was the fifth option on an inbounds, and he ran it to perfection… except he didn’t catch the ball. I know, it hit him in a tough spot… the hands.

But what’s going to happen when USC fouls him to stop the clock?

Moreland shooting FT’s with a one point lead?

Hung out at Three Rivers last night, and someone told me UCLA shot the ball against the Ducks in the second half like they were the Beavs. That was nice. I was also told by Duck fan that the Beavs were jobbed by the refs all game until about 8 minutes left.

I don’t think I want to see the replay. Maybe I’ll save it for a bad day so I won’t make a good day worse.

      • So I’ve looked up the costs, and it’s not cheap for overnight food shipments, especially since everyone has an $11 surcharge on top of everything else. You’re looking at $100 to $125, and I can’t guarantee quality. I’m sure it would be fine, but there are sellers who can guarantee.

So if you’re looking for dungeness, I think the best you’re going to do is go online. I would recommend Vital Choice (.com). I go through them for stuff in the off-seasons. They have free shipping for orders over $99, and you can usually find promo codes with a simple google search. I think the current promo is something like 15% off… though I’ve heard (not seen) there’s a code for 20% off somewhere out there. So for the same price, you can get three crabs plus a bag of sea scallops to put you in the free delivery range after the discount… about $110 or so.

I know it’s not like pulling pots and taking your own stuff home. Hell, you can walk into grocery stores and buy them for $5 per pound right now. But I’d trust a roadside pick-up with a cooler as much as I trust a big box with “fresh” shellfish. And in the end that’s all i would be for you anyway.

  19. BDC HAS GOT TO GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HE IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST IN THE BUSINESS and OSU will continue to be almost completely irrelevant every second this toad stays at Oregon State. HE HAS ABSOLUTELY GOT TO GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Soemeone pleare start a FIRE BDC sebsite or campaign. It’s OSU’s only chance to get out if this pile of **** he has us in. Gill is getting emptier and emptier because BDC hasn’t got a clue about what the younger generations want. He is a dinosaur who should have been let go 4 or 5 years ago. Why the hell do we still have this guy?

    • Why not just repeat history and take someone who is/was a coach at Wichita State? Oregon schools seem to do a decent job with former MVC coaches, no?

    • I’ll run down a list I always keep in the back of my mind whenever anyone is doing a search… like USC is now, I guess.

      High majors:
Jamie Dixon, Jay Wright, Buzz Williams

      Mid-majors:
Larry Eustachy, Gregg Marshall, Tommy Amaker, Randy Rahe, Shaka Smart

Up and coming or assistants or miscellaneous:
      Chris Collins, Michael White

You have to really open the checkbook to get most of these guys though.

  20. Wichita St is a good program too, but need to look all over. I’m sticking with CR for one more year, but if things are this bad next year, I know I’m going to have to move on.

    • Probably the same here. I’m giving a pass for this year because of circumstance. But coaches are victim to circumstance because it’s their program. If the depth isn’t in place, it’s still on the coach. Same logic that applies to Riley applies to CR.

As much as CR has brought a lot of alums back into the fold and convinced them to force OSU to make investments in hoops once again, that success may be his downfall. They are promised a product to match their investments. And while they appreciate the effort and laying of a foundation for success, i think a lot of them are looking at next year as the bellwether of CR’s future.

  21. I’m really glad Angry started the petition to fire BDC as I think his dismissal would be beneficial for all the coaches. I knew this guy was an idiot from the time he stated at a public gathering that he wanted a $3 million dollar boat house for the crew team.

I like CR and I think this job is more valuable now than what it was when he took over from Jay “Dumb-ass” John, but I think people underestimate Angus’s ability and the value he gave to this team. He was really coming along and then when he went down, so did the season. I don’t miss Cunningham as much, but losing Angus hurt.

If CR could scrap the Princeton and run a motion, since he wants to play up-tempo, he should go for it. There are so many variations of motion and with a talented staff that has experience and expertise in the motion offense, he would do well. The defense needs to improve greatly as well, as I have stated before. I do believe staff changes will happen this spring though and that will be interesting.

I do have a question about one of the recruits, Hallice Cooke. He’s a Bob Hurley product, ala Devon Collier at St. Anthony’s, but is he a shooting guard/pt guard? I think Hurley is the best high school coach in America, so I value his opinion more than others. I don’t know if CR has the guts to do it, but I would like to see Starks get pushed for playing time next year. Is Cooke capable of doing this?

    • Hurley said before the season that Cooke would be playing PG out of necessity since Anderson moved on to UCLA. But he also said Hallice has the tools and smarts to do so. And he’s pretty done so this year.

Cooke is a dead-eye, a sharp shooter. As a SG, he could take over a game with one of those patented second half trey barrages we’ve seen other teams do to the Beavs too often. But he can also get to the rim and finish when his team really needs a bucket. If I had to compare him to just one player, I would say he’s a tall Steve Kerr (yes, he shoots that well).

I see we don’t like rowing? I guess it’s good that the crew alums fund their own sport and replaced a structure that was not only poor in function but was bordering on dangerous. But at least we have one sport at OSU that sends athletes to the Olympics.

  22. I think if crew has the ability to raise it, then go ahead, but BDC thinks he could get it done with his talents, but based on his efforts in the past I doubt it.

    • BDC doesn’t do the heavy lifting. He makes checklists for the coaches who want something, and when they reach those marks he makes the finances work. These aren’t his visions. But he can still like/support his coaches’ visions.

I think he’s fine for what he does. I also think we pay too much for what he does. And APR and GSR should also be highlighted as areas that he doesn’t really do as well as his pay suggests.

Bobby D is simply a really good bean counter.
