  1. Nice throw by Ice for the third out. He has been a great replacement for Jake Rod. It’s been a fine line of C’s that Casey has developed. Canham, Susac, Rodriguez.

6 outs to go to tie or win facing a UW team with a 30- 0 when leading after 8

  2. Wetzler really f ‘d up his team. Biggest series of the year and he is in the dugout. There have to be some of his teammates that are absoluty pissed off with him. I sure would be. I don’t buy the “we are all behind him” bullshit.

  3. Pitch hasn’t been the problem defense and timely hitting has been the issue. Its one game, still can win the series, definitely harder to do.

Eden comes in with a one pitch HBP and he exits. Think they should have left Max pitch through that left on lefty matchup.

Wetz is a huge leader on the team and I would bet 90% of the team are behind him, the other 10% will feel he let them down, but will deal with it. If they lose the series could be a different feeling.

    • Relievers did better than most would have expected against a good team. Hard to picture the dawgs being picked for 10th (in the PAC) at the beginning of the season.

I won’t find fault with Casey’s handling of the Wetzler incident, but don’t think much of Ben’s statement as reported in the O. Sounded pretty boiler plate except for the “reaching out into the community and educating others” phrase. What does that mean, and why not include even partial specifics?
Also disappointing was the “I plan on reaching out to the owners of the house…” remark, why hasn’t that already happened?
While it is still early in the process I’d still like to have seen a little honest elaboration on those particular points.

  4. UW needed that win more than the Beavs. They now have to beat Fry and Wetz to take the series. Two best pitchers in the league against their #2 and #3 guys. I like the odds. Still they have the momentum now and we have got to play better defensively. We win that game and a sweep was a real possibility.

    • Add to that the fact that Conforto and Davis went hitless tonight, not likely to happen for the rest of the series.

      • Conforto hasn’t done well lately against starting pitching. Fisher threw first-pitch strikes consistently yesterday but no one seemed to swing at them.

  5. Meggs is no fool. He coached a D2 team to 1 or 2 national championships and was always in or around the World Series. Beavers cannot go thru the motions or get distracted. They must go full throttle. Go Beavers.

  6. On the Kavin Keyes front: Seemed noteworthy that Casey mentioned the positive aspect of playing him at 3b to get his bat into the game w/o pulling Clark. With Keyes defensive record at third, that remark surprised me.
Sounds like Keyes will be ready for SC next week; glad he will get some playing time before post season.

  7. U Dub looked pretty good. Their hitters really worked Andrew and their pitchers seemed to throw strikes and get ahead in the counts. Our freshman finally made some mistakes and it cost us the game. I can’t remember any other passed balls on Ice.

  8. How in the hell did the Huskies get so good this year? I don’t follow college baseball close enough to know, but there must be some back story.

  9. So how will Wetzler handle the “Players only” meeting, given his recent immaturity??

But they do need to suck it up and field and hit better…. GO BEAVS!!!

  10. 0-0 thru 5 and MIke Parker is interviewing ex coach Jack Riley instead of calling the game — is he nuts?!?! A 6 year old could call the game better than that.

    • Which was just a bad as the idiot P-12 announcers…..did you catch that as Davis was rounding to score the winning run in a very tense, exciting game, the announcer at first casually called out “Beavers take the lead” and had apparently forgotten that it was a game winning walk off situation. Talk about not having you head in the game.

  11. Bases loaded walk by Casper who on previous pitch fouled off and lost the bat out of his hands. Delayed to get mound worked on. 1-0 good guys.

  12. Rulli hasn’t made much of his chance today. Was robbed on a called third strike on the last AB though. Beavs go in order in the 7th. 3-6-0 Beavs 0-2-0 Dawgs.

  13. These baseball pitchers are a bunch of wussies. The woman’s softball pitcher from Auburn threw 277 pitches TODAY and 455 in the last three days. Alas they lost and my Golden Rodents will be in Eugene taking on the hated quacks in the super regionals. Foie gras for Goldy Gopher.

  14. Virginia dropped 2 of 3 vs wake forest. Beavs likely to jump them in the rankings this week. RPI should be solid enough now to secure a national seed. Win out and should be a top 2 seed.

  15. OT
I see that they’ve changed the Pac-12 champ football game to the Bay area for the next 3 years. I am not a fan of this move. I liked having it hosted by the winning team, and even thought it stupid that they try to white-wash the home team advantage away by using different stadium announcers, re-badging the stadium, and not honoring the season ticket holder seats.
Larry Scott says “The Pac-12 has a tremendous following in the Bay Area…” but also claims that moving it to a neutral site is helpful too. Whatever.
Presale tickets are $238 each for nosebleeds on the 40 yard line and you must pay for them now, regardless of whether your team makes it or not.

  16. OT. For whatever reason, no one seems to be talking about this, but Jeff Hendrix actually has a very good chance to win the 2014 PAC-12 batting title.

    Jeff’s batting average is currently .3813 (53 for 139).

“In order to qualify for the Conference batting championship, an individual must participate in 75 percent of his team’s games and have a minimum of 2.5 at bats per game played by his team.”
    http://compliance.pac-12.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Baseball-Sport-Regulations-13-14.pdf (at page 99).

The Beavers are currently 41-9, with four scheduled games remaining. Assuming all four games are played, OSU would end up having played 54 games in the regular season. As I read the rules, this means that the qualification thresholds for OSU players would be 135 at-bats and participation in 40.5 games. Jeff Hendrix already has 139 at-bats, but he has only played in 37 games (due to an injury early in the season). If Jeff plays in the remaining 4 games, that would make 41, and Jeff would qualify for the PAC-12 batting title.

Assuming that Jeff qualifies — which seems likely — it would then be a two-man race between Jeff and Michael Conforto. Jeff currently has a slight lead (MC’s current batting average is .3736). So, it seems that Jeff will win the 2014 PAC-12 batting title unless Michael Conforto hits for a higher average than Jeff over the last four games.

It would be nice to suppose that no one on the OSU team is even aware of this, since a focus on individual stats is almost never helpful for team chemistry or team success. Better just to play the games, ignore personal statistics, and look at the records when the season is over. But that’s not how things usually work in the real world.

As I said, off-topic, but perhaps another small and somewhat interesting thing to watch during the last four OSU baseball games of the regular season…

    • Hendrix has been fantastic. I knew he would be a big upgrade from Max, but not this much. Comforto is in sort of a slump so it would not surprise me if Hendrix does win it. Looks like he will be the lead dog for next years team. Go Beavs!

      • I didn’t get to see Hendrix in HS. But I knew from the beginning that he was a baller, and I thought he should have replaced Gordan last year. I love the kid’s drive and abilities.
