Somebody must be buying tires! Angry’s been able to fund a road trip. Or maybe off sellin’ soap??
Meanwhile, lets talk baseball vs Stanford.
Is this the last series in which the opponent has the ability to beat the Beavs without a significant stumble on the part of Casey’s guys? Even with the ucks and cougars having slightly better RPI’s than tree it seems like tree is more of a challenge. I’m thinking the ucks, cougs, and even huskies are more likely to need miscues and “off days” by the Beavs in order to prevail.
Anyway, Casey is keeping the fire going and aware of the significance of surviving the trap game at St. Mary’s: “I thought it was big,” coach Pat Casey said of the comeback win. “I saw what our guys looked like last year when they walked out of the loge and didn’t get invited to a regional. So I think every inning is big for our club.” (link below)
And of Stanford, he says, “Without question they have the best arms we’ve seen to this point,” … “They are as good a pitching staff as anybody in the country. I’m not saying they are better than everybody, but they are as talented as anyone we will see.” I think it was Bill who posted here of the strength of Stanford’s arms; it will be fun to see how the Beavs bats do this weekend, probably not the series in which Adley’s bat comes alive as I’ve been hoping.
Series starts 6pm Friday. All three games are supposed to be broadcast on a live stream produced by Stanford: http://pac-12.com/live/stanford-university
GO BEAVS!
Short and sweet from Eric Sorenson at D1
” If the Beavers continue to pitch as they have it doesn’t matter who they play or where, they’ll win.”
I think Stanford ends the sunken diamond streak this year. This is Mark Marquess final year and I’m sure he wants this one BAD. Not saying Stanford will win this series but I do think they’ll win at least a game and end the Beavs winning streak. Just a hunch that’s not worth two squirts of piss.
I would agree.
I’d watch for men left on base as a sign of how the series will play out.
Those who follow whiskey see what you did there!
Didn’t seem to matter Friday night did it? Again????? Methinks some of you are stressing over this stat waaaaaaay too much…………..
http://www.osubeavers.com/documents/2017/3/31//170331_OSU_3_STAN_1.pdf
or I’m just have a little bit of a laugh but all these chances are going to bite this team we seen it before
I think you maybe wining the argument with Beavers performances like today.
I think Adley is what he is for the rest of the year. Probably won’t contribute much at the plate. Hopefully he can get up above the mendoza line.
As long as he is doing his job well behind the plate then it is all good. Hitting will be gravy for this year.
Harrison is a catcher right?
Yes, Harrison, Zak Taylor, and (I believe) Gretler; but of them all Adley seems to be the expected future behind the plate.
They do have options if they want to have more offense without Adley.
Potential infield could look like this,
C – Gretler
3B – Grenier
SS – Madrigal
2B – Donahue
1B – Harrison
or
C – Gretler
3B – Atwood
SS – Madrigal
2B – Grenier
1B – Harrison
Or
C – Harrison
3B – Gretler
SS – Madrigal
2B – Grenier
1B – Taylor
Lets go Beavers
3 get on by a looper single that should have be caught
After 3.5 innings Beavs up 1-0.
Leadoff batter on in T3 and T4 but unable to bring him in.
Stream working well.
9 lob compared to Stanford’s 5 lob….in case anyone was wondering.
See my response at the top of this thread. Or don’t.
Did it matter?
Actually it does matter, but in a good way….this has become their identity. All these guys getting on base in the first place is wearing-down the opposing starters so we can get to the soft underbelly of the bullpen. Whether we get them home or not hasn’t played (at least yet) into the decision. As long as we get those late inning runs….who cares right?!?! My heart would beg to differ….
Some steady play by Grenier gets the Beavs out of the b8 still with the lead, 2-1.
Cary sac fly to get an insurance run in the t9.
Nate leaves Luke in to start the b9.
Beavs win!
Beavs 3 – 1!
Beavs win 3-1, complete game for Luke!
Good guys didn’t cash in many of their opportunities, several due to what looked like a lackadaisical approach by the Stanford D.
Nice to get into the Stanford bullpen in this first game of the series.
Kind of thinking Rutschman should sit for the rest of the series. His bat just isn’t developing right now. Harrison and Gretler can handle the duties back there. Stanford isn’t much of a threat on the basepaths anyways.
Yeah, a few days off might be helpful.
What is the latest on Harrison’s throwing hand? Still a week away from being healthy or has there been other recent info??
Plug him in the 7-9 spot and ask him for one walk and one sac per game. Everything else is gravy.
I do not now, nor will I ever, understand why the C is placed in the order as a bat. The man is a worker bee. Fuck that royal jelly shit.
Catchers in general?
Down goes Frazier!
Mississippi St upsets UConn ladies team ending the nations longest winning streak at eleventy billion.
Thats unfortunate………
+ forty seventy two for the use of eleventy.
Coaching Grades:
Casey: A
Rueck: A-
Andersen: B
Tinkle: F+/D-
Casey gets an A for awesome start to season and #1 ranking.
Rueck an A- for regular season champs but missing Elite 8
Andersen a B for steady progress, ending the Civil War streak with hard running & an uptick in recruiting.
Tinkle gets an F+/D- and not an F just because they avoided being the worst Power 5 team of all time. Feels generous to not be a straight F+. Much to prove as Oregon appeard to be within a year of passing OSU as the all-time better program. Ducks won it all and they may accomplish the feat in a matter of days.
Barnes as AD is a B- so far in my book but need to see more. Will he be as aggressive as it will take in competing with Oregon year in and year out in Football and Basketball? Fans want a definite yes and a man with a plan to get the Beavers there soon.
Tinkle has one awful year and sucks. We get it.
Ok, thanks for the report
Why does Barnes get a grade? I havent seen anything come out of the ADs office to make me think one way or the other about him.
BlackBandits: F
Asks too many questions
Not the first time………fuck you anthropology 101. In all fairness the steelhead run on the Alsea that winter was awesome.
I structured my class schedule to have few mid-week difficult classes for this very reason.
That river ruined me for steelhead fishing.
Is there such a grade of “F+”?, if so, it’s about the only grade I did not achieve in my college career.
as a former TA, I can say yes there is.
After grading tests, students would sometimes contest their grade. Occasionally after they explained their still mostly wrong answers, I said ok, I’ll give you credit for a couple extra points. I wasn’t really allowed to do this and the other TAs asked me why I did it. I said, well they moved from a 56% to a 58%. Still failing but they do feel a little better.
Saw plenty of these types of kids, none made it past a C- but one did make it to the NFL!
But Riley came back.
I gave one F-.
He deserved it.
I got fired.
OT, but does anyone know why we have all those Duck tweets in the twitter feed?
Yeah all that poo is kinda weird
I was wondering if it was some automated process? Is Duck Recruiting sending it to Beaver Recruiting and it just runs as part of the feed? I guess it could be ok as a “keep your enemies closer” type thing?
I was more triggered by watching all of those ASU women’s softball homeruns! Angry needs to tell the content people to just pick OSU sports “good parts”. I’m not here for reality.
Doesn’t really bother me when softball loses. It’s a mediocre program stuck in a tough conference.
And why is that flock of ucks allowed in the frame for the game stream??
Syd W wins CLASS award. Good for her and good pub for OSU.
http://www.osubeavers.com/news/2017/3/29/womens-basketball-wiese-wins-senior-class-award.aspx
Bryce sucks today, yet they leave him in. All tied up.
FTD…..
So 15 hits, 8 left on base, and down by a run…..
Harrison GDP to end the t5, on to the b5 down 6-5 to tree.
Another leadoff hitter gets on base for tree and Britton is done, Gambrel on to settle things down (?) and calm Mike Parker.
is Parker on Suicide watch yet? Does someone have to take his shoe laces?
Beavers shooting themselves in the foot every time they get runners on base (which has been often), but still feels like they can win this game
And still, Mulhollad isn’t warming up?
EDIT: After Gambrell starts with 5 straight balls, he does get out of the b5. Still, with this far to go in the game it seems Jake should be getting warm.
12 lob now
And 19 hits.
Beavers breaking it open. May be having a lot of LOB but that’s largely because the hitting has been ridiculous today. 13-7 and Beavers chase Stanford’s stud closer who hadn’t previously given up any runs, Beavers with 3 against him I believe
24 hits. 13-7
25 hits, Beavers 15-7.
Mike Parker says OSU record 27
Finally!!!! Big time bats are popping runs across the plate!!!
Beavers into the bottom of the ninth so that’s probably it on the hit parade. Hope they have a few left for tomorrow. That’s gotta be tough when you’re the only the second team of the year to get to Beaver pitchers and first in over a month, and they just do the same to you twice over
Beavers win 15-7. Quite a few batting averages went up today.
FTD….
Through the sixth inning this looked like anybody’s game, Parker (and many fans, I believe) was nervous. There is no one simple answer, but was this game won because of the confidence and “never say die” mentality of this team? Or just a one off, where Stanford pitchers were not sharp?
Stanford’s defense has seemed sloppy in both games; FEAR THE BEAV? Or another “one off” unrelated to the opponent?
25 hits, wow! 4 each for Kwan and Harrison, 4 guys with 3 hits apiece.
Anyway, Mulholland and Englebrekt are fresh for Sunday in the (likely?) event that Jake Thompson can’t get the job done.
Yes, I expect Jake to do his job and get through 4 solid innings before the slop shows up.
Hehe
Good to see 3 of the top ten teams go down today. LSU, Clemson, and Louisville.
And one of the “also rans”…………..toilet seat crew.
Fuck a duck.
Millions of dollars from Uncle Phil, tons of transfer players, marketing, hype, gaudy uniforms up the wazoo, and still:
nO natty
Always a bridesmaid never a bride
I feel bad for them. So close, but they never win. My heart aches :(
April fools :)
cold Scotty cold
What a way to lose. Not sure I’ve ever seen that. Couldn’t happen to a nicer team!
I wonder if I can get my commemorative book at half price now?
TRES = FINAL $ BUT WE WIN VS UNC UNLIKE THOSE MUTHA FUCKIN’ GAY DUCKSX. FUX THEM. DIS SHIT FO REALZ NEXT SEASON YALL KEEP SLEEPIN’
I don’t understand anything you just wrote.
Your Ducks are gay? And you would like to have sex with them… while we sleep?
What?
DUCXKS = FAILED SEASON!!!@#!@$%!!!
So?
LMFAO DUCKXS WHAT ANd EMBARRASSING SEASONs4!1!!!!

Why is the black man from Captital One so angry? Is the white guy late with his credit card payment?
I have felt for years that those commercials would be waaaaay better if Samuel L Jackson channeled his Pulp Fiction role in them.
“I dare you to use another credit card other than capital one! I double dog dare you motherfucker!”
“What’s in your wallet motherfucker!?!?!?”
BTW, great Tarantino movie. One of my all time favorites.
GP2 to sign with Milwaukee
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2017/04/report_gary_payton_ii_to_sign.html#incart_2box
Then there’s this little blurb which made me giggle
“Former Oregon State coach Craig Robinson, who recruited Payton to Corvallis before he was fired in 2014, is now in the Milwaukee front office as the vice president of player and organizational development.”
Vice president of player and organizational development. Yes, you read that correctly.
Why is that surprising? Those were his strong points when here.
Is there some super secret stupid idea you know that nobody with at least half a brain would imagine? Is Moochelle the Man a lizard person who destroyed Building 7 and traveled in the way-back machine to make Nairobi not part of Kenya in 1960?
“Why is that surprising? Those were his strong points when here.”
Best laugh of the day. Thanks Jack
“Robinson will oversee the development and implementation of programs that support the professional and personal growth of players through education, mentorship, business and community efforts that align with the mission and goals of the Bucks organization.”
http://www.nba.com/bucks/release/bucks-name-craig-robinson-vice-president-player-and-organizational-development/
Given Robinson’s education and background, I’ll think he’ll do just fine in this role.
I think you are right. If players listen to him they improve their chances for financial success after their days on the court are over.
If CR was able to use some influence to get GP-2 into the league then I’m all in favor. I didn’t see Payton cracking the Rockets line-up anytime soon.
Fair enough and I can agree with most of that. I was thinking more along the lines of basketball related player development. He fails there.
You must have no respect for hard work if you can’t even judge it.
Huh? I think GP-2 has worked very hard, but it doesn’t hurt to have connections with CR and Jason Kidd either.
ANOTHER amazing post from Jack the great!
If you suck at your job it doesn’t matter how hard you work. You still suck at it.
I’ll give CR some credit for helping to get the practice facility built. Other than that? You must enjoy all of those CBI appearances because he was so awesome at developing his players.
Other than that?
Other than the fact that CR is NOT the head coach at Milwaukee (which is the only metric you are using), he is very good at teaching financial planning and personal development.
You give him zero credit for having to pick up the pieces that John crapped all over OSU. Wes Edens saw that work which you simply ignore. And he sees the value of having someone who does that difficult work in his organization.
You can’t judge that work for whatever reason, so you crap all over it by dismissing it out of hand and talking about something completely irrelevant. This must be one of your small town values that us big city slickers just don’t understand?
Beavers get to hold on to better all time Hoops program for a couple more years. That’s it though sadly. Huge lead Miller and Gill earned is nearly gone. Oregon State seems to have no plan to hold onto it.
FUN FACT: Sunday game has added significance; Beavs need a win to draw even in all-time record vs Stanford, both overall (44) and at sunken diamond (23).
FUN QUESTION: What did ya think of the plate ump yesterday? Chances of improvement today?
BONUS: Will this be the weekend for Jake Thompson to go more innings than Bryce?
BONUS BONUS: Matt Boyd makes the starting rotation for the Tigers, due to go next Saturday.
Thompson is pitching into the 6th so not so bad right?
make that 7 innings pitched that is a good day
no runs 7 hits 6 Ks
Yesterday was a pretty good sports day. Beaver baseball wins again to keep the streak alive, Quack hoops loses to silence the “natty” hype from the Oregon media and for a nice cherry on top, Duckie baseball gives up a lead and loses to Utah.
And the gymnastics team qualified for the NCAA championships. They had the lowest qualifying score so they have some work to do to finish top 6 but they’re there.
Beavs blowing this one open with a 4 run 6th. 6-0 good guys
Rutchsman with a good day at the plate, 1-3 2 R HR and a well hit SF.
OT- GP2 saw action today in his first NBA game, scored 5 points in a Buck loss to the Mavs.
How many minutes did he play?
9 minutes, looks like in the 2nd half. Swished a three pointer, I think it was his first attempt and then a baseline jam.
Well anything less than Omaha will be a massive disappointment now
Thanks for covering this, OldBeav. Just got home from visiting parents to see the Beavs swept Stanford to go 24-1. Insane/great news.
Anytime, buddy. Glad to do it.
Hey guys, save a little something for Lindsay Meggs. Beating up on Furd is nothing new :)
It will be interesting to see what Casey says leading up to that series.
But first… Utah.
You like this track Jack?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StV9lElcvAY
BJM is decent sometimes. I was more into Mazzy Star in the 90’s than I was BJM. With Anton’s whole persona, they always seemed to me like Spinal Tap covering Spaceman 3.
Val Kilmer will play Anton in the movie.
It’s funny you bring them up. A couple DJs on KRVM have been playing their newest album for the last couple weeks.
Mazzy Star? Holy shit I thought I was the only person on the face of this earth that had ever heard of them. One hit wonder but they had some good stuff. I’ll give you a thumbs up on this one. Jack +1 this round (shakes fist).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uJ61jgFCMM
You’re still an ass though
Honestly, if you skip that song and Bells, you get a really strong album with what’s left. I also program Fashion Nugget so The Distance never plays.
Next you’re going to tell me you’re a Tommy Guerrero fan.
All the Mazzy albums are good listens straight through. Give you my Lovin’ and Halah standout to me as songs that could have easily been hits.
Ahem. First? Portland on Tuesday.
And if I were a betting man I’d wager that Casey and the players haven’t forgotten about that loss to them in Keizer last April.
OT – Sydney Weise takes 2nd place in a 3-point shooting contest:

Gymnastics to Nationals….
Baseball #1….
Football improving….
What about us, bro?
Win 2 games in a row after January 1st and we’ll talk.
You’re in hibernation with all other men’s hoops teams not named Gonzaga or North Carolina.
OT – Peter King on the Miami Dolphins drafting of Oregon’s Dion Jordan, released last Friday:
“I think you can play these games all day, but the way I’d look at the Dion Jordan disaster for Miami is this: Before the 2013 draft, Miami held the 12th and 42nd overall picks in the first two rounds. GM Jeff Ireland traded 12 and 42 to move up to three. With the third overall pick, the Dolphins selected pass-rusher Dion Jordan of Oregon. On Friday, Miami released Jordan, who played 26 NFL games in the four Miami seasons since the draft, and had as many substance suspensions (three) as career sacks. This was a flop of colossal proportions, one of the biggest busts of this century. Here’s what has to hurt worse: Miami didn’t use one high pick on Jordan; it used two. And in slots 12 and 42, the Dolphins could have selected defensive tackle Kawann Short or cornerback Xavier Rhodes with the first pick, and Le’Veon Bell with the second one. That is the kind of decision that can set a franchise back years.”
STANFORD SERIES, LOOKING BACK:
-So, this was the series where the Beavs were to face the best pitching and fielding squad so far this season? Two Indian-Cardinal-Tree errors per game and a boat load of runs scored by the Beavs, nice.
-How ’bout Adley swinging the bat. Will this be the start of a confident trend?
-Mitch Hickey: did we see enough in one inning to feel good about his return to duty?
-Jake Thompson: 7 innings, 7 hits, but no runs given up. I only caught bits n pieces of the game, did he look good enough to dispel some fears here? At one hit per inning, I’m still on the nervous side.
-The target on the backs of our good guys gets bigger…Go Beavs!
EDIT: Can this be true? LOB Sunday: Beavs 1, Tree 9
Stanford hitters looked off balance all game. Could not figure him out. They looked more in-tune the first two games. Maybe they were just rattled by the third game.
Big change this year is Cadyn Grenier. Last year was very underwhelming for a guy who could have been a 1st round pick.
Hitting over .400 in conference play. Turning into the player he was projected to be.
Maybe playing more middle infield has settled him down.
Both Grenier and Gretler have impressed me.
We had Jamie and Sydney: the “swish sisters”. What can we call Grenier and Gretler….”Good Guys” doesn’t seem to cut it.
Kwan has also impressed. On Sat., Tree intentionally walked him to pitch to KJ. Who would have thought that would ever happen? The small dudes have been huge.
Kwan has done really well at the plate as of late, glad to see him reappear….talented kid. Seems guys are picking-up each other and not letting opposing pitchers get a break with an easy out. That wasn’t a good idea to pitch to Harrison after walking Kwan….that is great to see Stanford unable to get the result of the matchup they wanted.
‘Go Getters’ ?
“Grenier and Gretler” sounds like a law firm…
UW women’s bball coach leaves for Arkansas? That’s a real thing. I guess his alma mater is Arkansas so that makes sense.
UW is going to be hurting quite a bit next year. Bottom half finish in the conference is likely.
Visiting a childhood friend that lived in Little Rock about ten years ago, I saw a great hat in a gas station out in the boondocks. “Sex is a misdemeanor. The more I miss it, da meaner I get.”

(Insert cousin fucking joke here)
http://www.azdesertswarm.com/arizona-baseball/2017/4/3/15158042/arizona-wildcats-baseball-respond-oregon-state-beavers-usc-trojans-pac-12-standings
“That’s a very good team; very complete when you look at Oregon State,” Arizona head coach Jay Johnson said after returning from that trip. “I think they’re better than anybody we played last year, and I have to credit our guys. The results weren’t what we wanted, but it’s a tough environment to play in, and we stuck with it. We just didn’t make a couple plays when we needed to.”
That’s pretty strong praise considering Arizona played through the CWS and lost in the championship game last season.
Anybody else think the championship was an ugly game? I couldn’t even finish it or care who won….
Refs ruined the game and contrary to the saying, cheaters do prosper.
I quit watching when they stopped to review the flagrant on Karnowski, late 2nd half. Fix was in at that point. Blue bloods are all cheaters and yes in major college sports it does seem that cheaters do prosper, even in a subtle advantage by officiating and ref expectations. WHen the UNC big guy fumbles the ball of his foot on a poor post move but it looks awkward so the obvious call is a 4th foul on Gonzaga’s post defender, not bad fundamentals/errors for UNC post. The 1st half was entertaining, but the whistles were blown nearly each trip for the first 10 minuts of the 2nd. Ugly.
My wife even commented on that. Will the U of Fake Classes ever pay for their misdeeds?
NCAA is a fraud.
This weekend, expect a write-up from an avid basketball fan who posts here and attends practice. It’s regarding Tinkle this past year. From our talks, what she’s reported to me is not good. e.g. lack of team chemistry and lack of coaching during practice to name two.
Same source that filled you in on Kwan and Thompson being liabilities?
That would be what most of us call the past.
Just for kicks, what do you call it?
Ask Angry. He said it one week ago.
Ahhh! He said it!
AHHH! Now I said it!!!!
I said it again!!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
What’s it, exactly? Is it your reading comprehension, or is it what was written? The sense I get is that the past predicts the future, and you can’t predict a better future until that past is mitigated by the present.
I don’t know why you can’t segregate past truths from the present. That’s a you thing. If I’m looking at Thompson’s past and present strictly in terms of numbers, I would surmise that all his poor past play has taught him how to pitch better from the stretch. He still has problems with his windup. But he’s keeping the ball lower, as opposed to the past. This tells me he was probably kicking too high or had an incomplete follow-through and has corrected one or both in the off-season.
His present conference numbers do not change his past numbers. But they are also not the new norm because a norm, by definition, considers the whole, nit just a snapshot… as you are wont to do… incorrectly a lot.
Who the hell is Kwan? Never even heard of him, never mind commented about him. Thompson still stinks. Needs to put together like 5 great starts vs Pac teams for that to change given his dreadful past.
I believe he was the villain in the second Star Trek movie.
My pediatrician as well.
No, that was Khan…he’s the villain in almost every iteration of Star Trek….
He was an Olympic ice skater. Went toe to toe with Rudy Galindo.
On 3/24 you wrote that the Beavs have a 5% chance of beating Arizona with Thompson on the mound. And then you said if they won that game you’d buy in that something has clicked for him. You were wron about that, and he just pitched 7 scoreless at Stanford. So you were wrong and went back on your word.
They did have a 5% chance. Don’t remember exactly what I said, but I am obviously reanalyzing him at this point. I didn’t see the Stanford game so I’m not sure how much was him, Stanford futility, luck, etc. I was gone all weekend didn’t see a pitch. When he’s officially good I’ll let you know, though.
By the way, everyone on this forum thought Thompson was a liability. Because he was. Is he now? We’ll see. You’re the only one who loved him, not because he was good or showed any promise, but because you have your 2 inch dick balls deep in Casey’s ass.
I’ve never said I loved him. Ever. But he’s been very good this year so give him a chance.
(Psst….You should have denied the 2 inch comment, too)
Then again, what are dick balls?
Why deny a compliment?
My dick balls are only 1.5 inches in diameter.
Should I envy him?
If you have those feelings, you should tell him.
yeah maybe I should’ve. I’m sure a joke about my mom is coming next time I prove him wrong
Don’t bring your mother into this.
The real question is: when/where did Angry see the dick balls of Angry^2 and can we trust the accuracy of the measurement?
You also said McM “Would never start a game for Oregon State”.
Kind of surprised you stick around after that one.
Right and he did. I was wrong. And like I said he wins over all the fans and coaches with his play doesn’t he.
Difference is I just admitted I was wrong and he started. You backpedal, change your story, etc. oh and Dallas Buck was an under the radar recruit.
The latter begets the former.
Perhaps he was just letting them find their identity?
re: “lack of coaching during practice.” One would have to assume that is a factor. Nothing seems to change. Andersen, Casey, Rueck, the Champlins improve their athletes’ performances and techniques. I don’t see that with Tinkle.
I do wonder about Rupp. Is it a case of Riley/Banker? Thompson is stuck, at least for a couple of years.

High end WBB player leaving Maryland because she wants to be closer to home. She is from Idaho.
http://www.umterps.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=29700&ATCLID=211546991
Wow. High end for sure, All Big 10 Freshman team!
Interesting that there are three gals leaving, although Slocum (from Idaho) was the only starter in that group.
National FOY as well. She would solve the ball handling issues the team has and provide an interesting counterpoint to the duck gal.
http://www.swishappeal.com/2017/4/4/15118796/maryland-destiny-slocum-transferring-ncaaw
Didn’t find anything online showing that we recruited her but I’m sure Rueck is aware of her. Pivec did beat her during the HS national 3 pt championship. Maybe there’s a relationship there as a result of that? Would be an amazing pickup, that’s for sure.
Pivec will be the main ball handler next year. She’s got a better handle than you think because Syd dominated the ball. Goodman will also help.
I think the team being young, got too hung up trying to get the ball to Syd because she was making big shots time and time again.
But any pickup would be nice though Rueck does seem to lean toward taller players.
The Mississippi State wbb guard that hit the winning shot against UConn is 5’5”’. The photo of the winning shot shows her jumping high while shooting it. You don’t see a lot of that in wbb.
Jack is that one guy who makes you cringe when he comes to your defense in an argument. His mere presence undermines everything you’ve tried to accomplish. LOL, but seriously, cmon Angry. Have some humble pie and be happy that you were wrong about Thompson. Your ego seems to make you root against players on your own team just so you can claim you were right (I.e anyone who plays QB not named Marcus Mcmariyon) First he needed to show he could do well in conference play. He did. Now you say he needs to play well for 5 starts? Then what? Where does it end? Is he back to being terrible if he has one off night? This site is great for info on all the programs but damn the “discussion” on here seems to be of the “agree with me or you have 2 inch dick” variety. Interested to read the piece on the bball program, nonetheless. Go Beavs! (All of them)
One off night would be a great season, unless it came in an elimination game. We can hope for that. What we have as data says he was bad, and now he’s better. I’ve heard it argued before that the style he’s pitching right now can be a stimulus for the D to then give him run support on O by keeping them constantly distracted with baserunners while they’re on the field. It sounds plausible. But it also sounds like a balancing point that can teeter if anything disrupts it.
Regardless, you’re not talking about angry being wrong about him in the past. You’re talking about him being stubborn about possible change now being the new norm. It can’t be, but I understand the sentiment. Jake has moved his drop off window from the 2nd to 6th inning up to consistently the 6th and 7th innings. That’s good. It’s not great.
The difference this year is the bullpen and run support. He can probably survive a couple blow-ups this season and still get wins out of them. He is who he is. Don’t mistake providence for skill. You could make an argument for synthesis, but he’s not a standalone P yet.
Also credit the guy behind the plate. All the Ps have stepped it up this year, and he’s part of that.
That “stimulus for the D” thing you heard about…….those voices again?
Good point about the guy behind the plate, Yeskie and Casey have been public about their agreement there. Now, if only he’d learn when to toss that mask!
Keeping the D involved by scattering plays around the yard is a method that has been used forever. Optimally, you do it with fewer base runners. But the idea is that the team stays engaged, and that will show at the plate.
As I said, after 5 quality starts in the PAC we can begin to say Thompson has maybe turned a corner. He has several horrible seasons, so 3 games does not turn that around. Same analysis for any player who has ability yet isn’t performing. E.g. When Seth Collins was named QB I said give him 5 games to know what he is. He was clearly awful at that point, so you can evaluate accurately. In baseball, if you can string 5 quality starts vs good competition it’s probably not a fluke, so that’s a good benchmark. Nothing to do with being humble, etc. I want him to be good. I want us to win the CWS. At this point, I still have near zero faith in him. He just doesn’t have great stuff and has gotten pounded in the past. People really forget how bad he was this fast? I mean Dan Uggla once had a 33 game hitting streak in MLB. Dan Uggla! Does that mean he’s great? He was awful. Awful players get hot, and my hunch is that’s what’s going on. Need a way bigger sample than this.
Your exact words for 5% chance he beats Arizona. Then you changed it to .0001 % chance he beats them. You said all that after you said wait til Pac12 play. Nobody here that I’ve seen has said he’s great. Stop twisting words. He’s been good all year and I believe he’s currently leading the conference in wins.
How about this: I’ll let you know when he’s good.
He didn’t beat them, he was pull too early to get the win and only after minimal trouble. Casey short lease kinda supports Angry’s point. Pulled after 4 2/3 and 89 pitches with a 5-2 lead. That does scream confidence.
But one of Casey’s warts is that he and “Too late Nate” leave guys in too long. I learned that wart from Angry, so it’s as good as gospel.
Good point, my 5% odds of him beating them were actually true. More egg on A@A’s face. Eek.
id love to hear this theory
He has very good stuff but has lacked control and was Mr.Meltdown when anything bad happened.
He has shown improvement this year, but I also am sceptical. I hope he can continue to put some quality starts together. During the AZ series, one of the announcers referenced the draft ratings for the eligible Beavs and he was the highest FWIW. Twenty or so spots ahead of Luke.
You know who else had very good stuff but lacked control?
Ron Davis
Uncountable adjectives. Can he have had ” several horrible seasons” being a redshirt junior?
Any chance the b-ball insider is Mama Muchado?
For a small monthly fee you just might find out ;)
What if I buy some all season radials?
I think this insider will be a let down. I’ve been in the bball facility and watched a women’s practice. There’s no where to hide and watch. Anyone who isn’t in the athletic dept in the facility will be noticed. I mean Rueck looked right at me immediately when I walked in.
Hard to see how a fan is able to attend practice a lot so this person is connected to the program.
And what will it really tell us that wasn’t seen on the court this year anyway? Issue was lack of depth and injuries.
Also, Tinkle showed he can coach guys up from his first two years here. Definitely not a lack of coaching or team chemistry then.
Too late Bill the witch hunt is already well underway
If he “coached up” Dew and Stacy, it’s hard to visualize where they started from when they first arrived at OSU. Eubanks has appreciated the coaching up so much that he’s leaving after two years with huge flaws in his game.
Thus, my point about Rupp – who is supposed to be a big-player coaching expert.
I think it’s very much agreed on that Tinkle missed badly on the JC recruits.
Eubanks is not leaving. If he was, why is he on campus working out with the team?
I don’t know the technicalities. Is Eubanks not allowed to work out with the team as he prepares for NBA draft tryouts (or whatever is the correct term)? His father stated that his son’s intention is to “be drafted in 2017”. It sounds like a goal not reached will be the only reason Eubanks stays, which does not seem like the best reason to stay, but I’m sure Tinkle will take it.
Looks like the Beaver baseball vs Pilots game will be streamed here at 6pm. Unless it gets rained out

Thanks for posting. It’s not a bad feed and the commentators are decent.
I’m interested in reading what Angry’s source has to say about Tinkle. I did think Tinkle’s flirtation with Stanford was glossed over by the Oregon media (like so many stories that require hard questions are). He just achieved something no Beaver coach has done in 26 years and he’s off being interviewed by Stanford? I know it’s part of the business of college basketball, but as a fan it didn’t sit right with me and no questions about why he thought it was a good idea were ever asked, that I could tell. It soured me a little on him and now with the debacle of this season, I think he has a lot to prove in the next three years.
Tinkle owes no loyalty to us just the same as we don’t owe anything to him.
Businesses like college basketball rarely reward loyalty and in the end it almost always ends with bitter feelings.
Probably not much bitterness here regarding Smilin’ Mike’s departure.. Sure Tinkle’s free to go where he wants, but his timing and intentions can certainly be questioned by an inquisitive media (which our state does not seem to have) and the fan base.
Isn’t that funny? It’s fair for fans to call the program a disaster after one bad year and wonder if Tinkle is the man for the job but shame on Tinkle for talking to other teams in what was an obvious (and successful) move to get a raise at OSU
We just want our coaches to bring us championships and stay loyal to our school as long as that’s happening, and when it stops happening we want them to leave gracefully so we can get another coach to bring us championships. Is that too much to ask???
Timing is everything in life. He talked to Stanford right after doing something historic at OSU. I thought it was kind of shitty of him, but he is a grown ass man and can do what he wants.
Beavs up 2-1 after 3 innings
Clutch!!! 4-3 Beavs
I was expecting a little more separation in the score by now….
I didn’t realize the Pilots were only 6-21. I saw where they played the Quacks tough recently in a 1-0 loss.
20 straight. Beavs win, 4-3 final
the pen was good tonight no hits past the 4th 18 ks on the night
The top of the order was not so good tonight. Hope they wake up again this weekend.
The pen, specifically Mulholland, has been darn good all season. The series vs Utah may give a chance to see how Mulholland responds on short rest, gotta be a chink in the armor somewhere.
Conflicting stories here. But if Florida refused to continue this game? Pussies. Took their ball and went home.

I saw that too. Most likely a loss, so we’ll conveniently cancel the game and not reschedule the remainder. Awesome home cookin’.
“SEC..SEC”
On the ACC side of things, Florida State beats FGCU 3-2 — get an official win after playing only 5 innnings as well. WTF!!!!
This can’t be! Has to be fake news.

I think everyone knew he was out of the closet but him
Tom Cruise next?
I guess he should change the song title to Randy instead of Mandy.
Man D?
Nemec on facebook last night with a teaser.
Says today “might just be a (n especially) great day to be a Beaver”
No idea what he’s referring to, so i guess you might want to stay tuned.

FWIW – http://cwur.org/2016.php
OSU ranked #250 in the world. Oregon is #342. OHSU is #161.
Specific program ranks (Oregon has no programs ranked)
http://cwur.org/2017/u-list.php#Oregon State University
25,000+ universities ranked so top 1%. Not too shabby
250th in the World = 97th in the US. Not bad. Has to be the highest ranking anywhere I’ve ever seen? But to be honest I don’t pay too much attention.
#2 on the World in Forestry and #3 in the World in Oceanography. Eighth in both Marine & Freshwater Biology and Mycology. Impressive. Go Beavs!
Methodology:
http://cwur.org/methodology/preprint.pdf
I’m not sure why they choose number of CEOs for their Alumni employment metric. That’s an arbitrary position with no defined value. I would think a rolling accumulation of reported incomes would be more accurate… still insufficient, but more accurate.
I also don’t know why the Quality of education metric doesn’t weigh somewhat equally with Quality of faculty and include in its formula the student-to-faculty ratio.
I think we should wait for USN&WR’s rankings based on the methodology of surveys about how people feel about stuff… and stuff.
Front of the VFC is looking pretty good imo. Looking forward to checking it out in person this weekend.

D1 is out with their Midseason Field of 64 Projections.
Yes, it is early and there is a long way to go.
Yes, it is no surprise that the Beavs with their record and #1 RPI are slated to host.
But, once again we are reminded that it is not just Beavs fans (and players) who felt snubbed last season, the scribes at D1 say:
https://d1baseball.com/projections/2017-midseason-field-64-projections/
He probably wants to be coached. The gist of what I’m hearing is there’s very little coaching or work ethic. Pretty surprising accusations, but I’ve known this source for years, trust them, and they were at the practices.
I say surprising because in year 1 and 2 Tinkle seemed really into it. OSU put videos of practice up on youtube, and it seemed like he was involved and energetic.
So… no Duvivier next year.
Welp, angry’s source gains some cred. No way to spin this as a positive.
… for OSU.
Congrats to Malcolm for walking this spring.
Angry, are you doing a thread when you post your insiders information on the basketball program?
Yes. And for baseball tomorrow. There’s just not much interesting me right now, so I’m not going to force threads. I can put up a general if this one is too busy.
Maybe Nemec’s teaser from last night will end up being thread worthy. He said there should be news either late today or early tomorrow. Still no idea what though
I read that wrong. News is supposed to happen today. It sounded positive at least, so its not likely he meant the Duvivier news. So maybe Duvivier leaving opens up an immediate spot for a transfer to come in and save our program.
I think this thread is fine until tomorrow. I was just curious if the basketball information was going to get it’s own thread.
What’s up everyone just wanted to say by to all of you. Been a big fan of this site for several years now. Plan right now is go to Kentucky and win a National Championship next year. Need to be around a coach who can better build the offense around my skillset and get me NBA ready. Nothing personal like I said. Thanks for the kind ass words!
I didn’t know that an offense could be built around missing layups, but good luck with that.
I always loved how he could knife his way to the basket for a layup…….the problem was when he jumped in the air all bets were off.
If you truly wanted to be funny, you should have replaced Kentucky with Nikegon.
