  1. Abel really struggles with command here in the 2nd. After the 1st, I was pretty hopeful he’d figured it out. When he gets that down, he should be pretty good.

  2. Thursday evening clown show in process.

Too late Nate gives Abel enough time to blow this game. Fielding is suspect and the young pitchers are too easily rattled and can’t find the plate. Walks become runs and this team isn’t going to be close to last year’s as the season goes.

    • Wow. This is/was the biggest cry baby post ever. The team is #1 in the country and you’re posting this garbage. Not trying to be a online angry person but that was funny.

      • Not #1 for long playing like this. Perhaps Casey’s excellence has skewed my expectations for them to not give the worst team in the conference a chance to win by gifting walks, hbp, errors, hitting nto double plays, not getting a run in with bases loaded no outs.

Casey will chew these guys up for this effort. I won’t cry over the beavs, but I have to think Casey will not be speaking about niceties to the guys when this one is over.

      • Yeskie is the one who said there was a clown show going on in the Sunday game. I presume it was the idea of walks and bad 0-2 pitches by Gambrell and Abel.
Reactionary maybe, but I’ll stand by it until the young guys start getting guys out on a regular basis without walking 3 guys per inning.

It may have been reactionary but tell me what is wrong about it. No way this pitching staff goes 56-6.

        • I agree, and not just to a point. The combo of inability to put opposing hitters away and, too often not getting timely hits themselves makes losing less than twice the amount of last year a tall order for this group.

    • We knew pitching was likely to be weaker than last season, hoped the offense would be able to offset that. May still be the case.

Hey, only 7 LOB, nice huh? Oh yeah, hit into 4 DP’s

Bill’s right, anything less than a sweep is disappointing, as is hearing that nike u is up 10-1 over Stanford…….the world is upside down!

Time to put individual stats back on the team website?

  3. Pitching has very little of the moxie and grit that was a part of last year. Casey has to start going small ball to manufacture runs, waiting for the big hit isn’t working.

Bases loaded no outs without scoring a runs is inexcusable for this team. I think they were sleep-walking and didn’t take Utah very seriously.

Not having a regular Friday/Heimlich start didn’t help either.

  4. Angry, be happy the Mets rolled the Cards today and at least Utah got smoked by Penn St. in the NIT! But what a shitty loss. Casey better find some pitching soon, I don’t think we are going to see 27-3 this year. Two losses now, 7 games in.

  5. HC Jon Smith-Riley breaks down the baseball loss at Utah.
    “What up with the pitching?”
“What up with hitting into DP’s?”
    “What up the situational hitting?”

    • Is there a single Duck not projecting in their replies?

Talk about a butt-hurt crew. Taking the Willie out of them must have left them pretty sore.

    • I’m still amazed at their butthurt. I can’t decide if my favorites are the ones who complain about “copying” an edit that was a copy of someone’s proprietary work in the first place… or the Dean Snyder dude who wants to take everything so personally while trying to insult you.

It’s just an amazing display of dumb.

      More please.

      • I blocked most of them, especially the ones who quote it, so they end up quoting a blank tweet. Makes them even more butthurt.
Except that Dean guy. I couldn’t block him because I wanted to keep his stupid rant visible to everybody.

“You fail at life and social media”

“Hey, that guy was just mean to me…..he’s such a meanie!”

He then went on to a players page(Chris Steele, from the original duck tweet) to complain about how mean i was to him. Really, the older guy is complaining to the highschool kid….

The only thing I regret is not waiting till April Fools to put it out there

  6. Eubanks making a huge mistake here. He has almost no chance of getting drafted, let alone being any type of impact player or even a bench/practice player.

“Follow your dreams just don’t be dumb about it” – John Adams

    • I don’t know, he basically is the player now that he will be next year. If the draft class next year gets bolstered by possible changes to draft eligibility(high school kids being allowed to go directly to the draft rather than college for 1 year) this might be his best chance to make a team. He wouldn’t be hiring an agent if he didn’t have some knowledge about his chances. Best of luck to him. Even if it leads to career in Europe, I could think of worse ways to make a living.

    • Where in the world did you get such a lousy pseudo-aphorism?

Should we go over how John Adams would never have written this… in five different ways… at the very least?

  7. I wasn’t expecting an easy series in Utah. I was sitting in Goss last year and we were lucky to win the series let alone sweep.

Hopefully by the end of the season Abel and Gambrell will have it figured out. Still haven’t heard anything about Verburg’s return.

Difference last night was that the Beavs hit into 4 DPs and 6 of the 8 Utah hits were for extra bases. Plus the Utes had a bunch of 2 out RBI.

First b2b conference losses since May 2016.

OT–If you’re thinking your taxes are too high then maybe spending $6.4 million on an airport that Corvallis doesn’t have is part of the problem: http://www.gazettetimes.com/news/local/the-earth-moved-and-a-runway-had-to-change-its/article_e36d1004-46f0-53f4-9b15-7266c565d362.html#tracking-source=home-top-story-1

    • But, but………“In December 2016, the city accepted an Oregon Department of Transportation grant of about $640,000 that finished off the funding required. “
So, ten percent from ODOT, not the taxpayers, they’ve got buckets of dough to help taxpayers fund improvements like this…………..they’ve got that money tree, right?

        • Then again, I didn’t understand why he didn’t attribute the renaming to magnetic declination. It was clear that was what was happening despite his original, fumbling reporting.

  8. Eubanks with an odd decision. Playing in europe is likely since he won’t be drafted. Or g league purgatory.

Wonder what factors that went into this decision.

  9. Is “low ego, high output” the new athletic buzz phrase? At the presser announcing our new hockey coach at Minnesota, the AD said the culture was, you guessed it, low ego, high output. Where did HC Jon S pick it up?

  10. OT…. but. RE: The story today in the O about a hazing incident at Sprague High in Salem. One of the (alleged) key perpetrators was a highly recruited tight end. He had committed to the Ducks. This thing has been below the radar for over a year, but just broke publically today.

Fearing a Heimlich like situation the Ducks and a few other schools pulled their offers, well before NLI day leaving him high and dry until the legal situation is sorted out. This thing may end up a sex crime also.

Interesting how this was handled by those schools. JB

    • I just turned on the video feed and the first thing I saw was Heimlich hitting some Ute schmuck in the ankle! On a positive note, Beav softball ended a 16 game losing streak to the Quacks 4-3 today. Beat some pitcher who was undefeated.

Update 5-2 Utes, if I understood these idiot announcers, Heimlich just gave up a two run bases loaded single to a freshmen after hitting a batter and walking a batter.

  11. Hard to tell on the live stream, but it looks like Luke is getting squeezed, and Utah is getting a pretty large strike zone. Does anyone else have a better view than my phone screen?

  12. Wow, Utah pitchers have imploded after their started was pulled. 7-5 good guys still in top of the 7th. Moore with a three run double.

  13. Andy Armstrong solo dinger 9-5 Beavs. Armstrong has played great the past 3 weeks, should slide over to DH once Madrigal returns

  14. OT- Notre Dame beats UConn in WBB. Last year Geno was smiling after getting beat by MSU, like it was a fluke. He looked pissed after this game. The Beavs played ND tough, I hope they can get back soon.

    • McGraw played a bunch of “insult the women who play hoops at UCONN” bullshit whines a couple years ago for that NCG where she got emnarrassed.

She’s been continuing the drama, and Geno can’t like losing to it.

      • I see some of you disagree.
        http://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/tournament/2014/story/_/id/10745445/muffet-mcgraw-notre-dame-fighting-irish-says-there-no-civility-connecticut-huskies

That’s just a quick search. McGraw has contrived this bullshit hatred of UConn and its players and coach. I’m guessing she does it to motivate her team. But she carries it too far always. She decided from the beginning to try to make it personal, and that was in stark contrast to the WTF? Auriemma was giving the media when he heard about all this contrived angst.

I would chalk it up to jealousy manifested as a lack of sportsmanship, the latter being obvious if you look at the words used over the years by McGraw in relation to UConn. I get it. UConn gets the best players and wins with them. That doesn’t mean those players are to be hated by you, coach.

It’s sad, because McGraw is one helluva a coach beyond her irrational mind games. She can ditch the drama and be better, but I think she believes the drama is foundational for her.

And Geno didn’t look pissed. He looked sad. I didn’t watch the game, but a friend says it was Geno’s decision to bench their bigs a couple times in the second half that allowed ND to even be competitive, let alone winning. Did anyone watch it?

        • Yes, I watched the game. At the end of the game, I thought he looked more pissed than sad, but that’s my perception. There was some foul trouble going on and issues with them handling the ND zone.

Last year, he had a big smile on his face at the end of the Miss.St game, sort of like this shit happens now and then, what can you do? McGraw seems pretty uptight, but I’m not sure about Geno either, did you know he had some sort of falling out with Pat Summit also?

          • Yeah, I didn’t mean to imply Geno was at fault, but you’re a better researcher than I. I was just reading an interesting NY Times article on college WBB and the fall out was described as a “mystery” Honestly, I never paid much attention to WBB until Rueck came along. The parallels between UCLA on the men’s side in the 60’s/70’s and UConn now are interesting. Supposedly, parity is coming.

          • I just remember that 2014 wbb championship. McGraw was so out of line with her approach to it. I can only guess she thought it was motivating her team.

I didn’t watch the game because I had no compelling reason to do so. But I remember catching Geno in a presser before the game, and the press was asking him all these dumb “hate Notre Dame” questions. And he was getting on them for asking these dumb “wtf?” questions before one of them told him it was McGraw who was saying all this. He just stopped and sort of looked stunned (in a confused way) for a second before saying he wasn’t aware of anything between them before now, not that they were going to be spending time together in the near future.

She was saying all sorts of weird stuff like UConn players didn’t deserve their success because they didn’t work as hard as her team and blah blah blah.

It’s been really strange listening to coaches speak about UConn in the past decade. I started paying attention when Summitt decided to make her AD run those spurious claims up the flagpole. She grumbled about that stuff while she was winning championships. There was talk around college sports that she was losing it at that time, and her assistants were really running the show. I doubt it was that obvious since players never really supported that angle. But she seemed less lucid toward the end than her public persona was projected to be.

          • Any 62 y/o woman that can do a catchers squat for most of a game in high heels has to get some cred. She must have buns of steel and kevlar patella tendons. Just glad U Conn won’t win. Hate the SEC, so hope for a ND win by default.

          • I know at one time McGraw had a winning record against Geno when both teams were in the same league, but UConn would thump them in the tournaments. I think ND has one natty compared to Geno and his double digits. And I agree, the media seems to want to keep the animosity/rivalry going and Geno could care less.

  15. I keep saying the 7th inning is often good to the Beavs. Lundeberg is catching on, this from his twitter:

Still trying to wrap my brain around Adley Rutschman seventh-inning stats (8 for 11 with six extra-base hits and 13 RBIs in March). Why do teams keep pitching to him?

  16. Kwaaaan………has a chance for a SAC fly turned into a 7-2 inning ending DP.
Mid 2nd inning, 1-0 good guys.

But not for long, Fehmel gives up a HR to start the b2, now it is 1-1

  17. Parker really doesn’t sound like he is having fun. Since getting Jim Wilson full time is unlikely, how about this: Ben Wetzler play by play with Parker doing color (you know, references to old movies, his early years as a fan, and baseball stats)?

  18. Man, watching Beav pitching has been like having teeth pulled this series. Is there someone hungry in the bullpen who deserves a chance to step up?

  19. Tweedt pitches to contact, Utes leave 3 to end the 6th up 7-4
Top of the order coming for Beavs t7, will the seventh be good to the good guys again??

        • C’mon, Scotty, this weekend was just another example of luck ‘o da Beavs. Even w/o Nick the tendency to GDP and the widespread pitching maladies will pass, a win total in the 40’s is still likely.
Not calling that success, just hoping you can stay off the ledge! We’d miss you!

  20. 18 hits allowed, hasn’t happened since April of 2011. EIGHT YEARS !!
    this per Lundeberg Tweet.

Also, turned zero DP’s and hit into 9 during the series!

  21. Could the Pitchers be rattled from Umps not calling a fair game? 3rd base call, check swings not called strikes, Casey getting thrown out for his hat grazing the umpire, etc?
