Grind your coffee beans, check your stock of IPA, maybe prep some jalepeno hot poppers, and don’t linger after early church service. It’s gonna be a full day for Beaver fans.
Forget the F.King cares of the world and lets see a few questions settled. Will the bats stay hot? Will the youngsters Rueck has assembled keep their dream alive? Will Tinkle’s crew continue to play as a team?
Is going 3-0 today (A)likely, (B)entirely possible, (C)a long shot, or(D)??
Share your thoughts on the key factors needed for a Beavs Sweep today. Hint: score 5 runs, keep Taylor Jones out of foul trouble, and be unselfish/take what the D gives.
Here are your start times (Pacific) and links for video coverage of all three contests. You should be able to view live stats here
The schedule:
Baseball 1:05pm livestream here
WBB 4:30pm………ESPN2
MBB 6:40pm……..TBS
Go Beavs!
First!
Great last ten days to be a rodent..
Cinderella run in the PAC to the title
WBB continues NCAA streak
Win an NCAA game for the first time in forever
Gophers finally fire Pitino Jr.
Beat Badgers for hockey title
Heavyweight completes undefeated season with NCAA title.
Let’s keep this going!
WBB: Need to handle the pressure. Last time we played them it was a disaster. Attack the basket when you break the press. Goodman has to be smart with the ball and not dribble into trouble.
MBB: Do what they have been doing. They are on a roll. Hope the magic continues.
Baseball: ???? D is very good. Pitching is good. Hitting?? I am not convinced they have the raw talent of the past decade and the certainty do not have bell cow superstar to carry the team for a while. Good to see the bats come to life yesterday, but need to see that consistently.
Does anyone know if Casey does anything with the team?
I would think this is the only time in Beaver’s “major” sports history that MBB, WBB could get tourney wins on the same day plus baseball getting a win. 3-0 the hard way!
I’ll drink to that!
Today, history is not on the Beavs side. 12 seeds have made the Sweet 16 beating the 5 and 4 seeds only a handful a times but it’s a different year. Teams aren’t over whelmed by the crowds and the spectacle of playing under the bright lights.
I’ve gone back and forth as to how the Beavs can deal with Ok St. One on hand, they could try to shut down Cunningham and make the rest of the team beat them. Or they could make him play hero ball and force him into taking tough shots.
But in the end, I think the Beavs should just play the brand of basketball that got them here. Close down driving lanes and force the other team to beat them with 3 pointers. This either ends up with a close win or a blowout like the Oregon game where they hit 15 threes. Just don’t let Cunningham be the one shooting threes as he is a 40% shooter.
On the offensive end, Silva won’t be perfect like last game but Alitishe won’t go 2-10 either. Hopefully they meet in the middle. The bench will be the key here. Calloo and Hunt need to have a game. Maybe Calloo can put up a good game vs his former team.
Game is at Hinkle where Hoosiers was filmed. That should be fun. The Tinkle at Hinkle.
Who cares? We were pretty bad a few weeks ago, and now we have a shot. It’s house money, and I hope they view it that way and play loose. That’s how they pull it off.
I know you care
Calloo could be looming for redemption against his former team.
House money-and hopefully we’ll value that for what it is. Obviously my hope is that we keep the run going.
Previewing my gambling resources today, more than one has OSU picked (Sorry, couldn’t resist). Beavers plus 6 is a trendy play. My Beaver realism is that a regression to mean is coming and Cade is going to go off today after a subpar Friday.
I’d like to be proven wrong–Go Beavs!
Cowboys are good. Cunningham is elite and can single handily make the difference. Alatishe will likely match up with him and needs to stay out of foul trouble. Play solid team defense, control tempo, hit >35% of our 3s and limit Cunningham and Beavs win. 72-65.
I’m expecting Okie St to come out with full court press and traps in half court. Need to handle the pressure and make them pay. First 10 minutes is the key to this game. If we can attack and get easy buckets they’ll start to rush and force. If not, the Beavs could get run out of gym. Let’s hope coach tinks has them prepared… they have to be expecting it.
I think the Beavs can return that favor too with half court pressure. Make ok state walk the ball up and then defend the short clock. Maybe show the 131 and then settle into matchup zone.
Loyola put on an absolute defensive clinic against the Illini.
If the Beavs can replicate that kind of defensive effort tonight, they’ll win.
Agree. I think I’d rather face Illinois than Loyola. They’re an impressive team.
Their center was great.
Lineup now posted for the rubber match.
Dukart remains at cleanup, Casey returns to the lineup.
Forrester and Kasper play again today along with Hamilton for a second day.
Nice bunt by Casey!
Ryan Ober scores on a wild pitch 1-0 Beavs
Preston Jones 2 RBI single makes it 3-0 B2
Joe Casey sac fly gives the beavs a 4-1 lead
Brady Kasper drives in Dukart 5-1
Wow what a blown opportunity by Forrester. Don’t understand why uber isn’t there.
Should’ve been a double play.
Exactly!
Proving to be very costly!
Too early Dorman? Why did the pull the starter after 3 innings??
I started watching in the 4th with Watkins pitching. Forester blew the double play and then the bases were loaded with no outs. Idk if I would’ve pulled Watkins there. That error is why they are now losing. Burns struggling now and throws a wild pick off move.
The Beavs are Cougin’ it.
Are they going wait till we are down by two before getting Burns out of there?
Good thing they’re a great hitting team. Oh wait…
Jones gets a run back with his 3rd rbi of the game, 7-6 Wazzu
And Jones ties it scoring on a wild pitch 7-7
Wazzu pitcher got his money’s worth on that WP! That baby was waaaay outside.
Ya not looking too impressive so far.
Alright all tied up at 7 in the bottom of the 5th.
Forrester just looks slow for a 2and baseman.
Isn’t he pretty big?
Kyler McMahan single gives the beavers a 8-7 lead!
Stop giving up runs!!! 8-8 bottom 7.
That’s a good strategy!
FSU running on the Good Gals, Beavs by 1, 5.5 mins in.
Is it on tv?
Nm sorry.
Coach for FSU has a nice rack.
She’s sort of putting it out there, looked like the camera actually cutaway with that one shot.
That’s good camera work…
Armstrong Homer 9-8 Beavs
Armstrong, solo jack. Beavs 9-8 bottom 8. No outs still, get some insurance!
Seems a little odd that the WBB announcers are still remote?
They can be that way….
Ron Callan is on site, not on the floor though but in the gym.
Is ESPN trying to save some dough, didn’t they just go through some layoffs?
Competitive games so far today. Armstrong homer was clutch. Hope my heart holds out!
One win down, two to go! 9-8 Beavs!
I do love it when mulholland gets on the mound.
Mulholland just throws strikes…….good things follow.
He’s a great closer.
Goforth has been a TO machine so far.
If she cleans it up this game will blow up.
Von O!
They have open looks on every possession that they don’t turnover. It’s going to boil down to simply making shots or not.
They are picking that zone to pieces. FSU needs to adjust or this will be a route.
Jones has missed three layups. Got to execute.
Someone here was down on Taya a little while back, she’s come on since then.
And, how about Aleah taking advantage of the FSU lack of attention to her, hard to believe that will continue.
Live stats not working without credentials, I think Jones is without a foul…a good sign if true.
Aleah is devastating when she’s on
Nice passes
41-27 good gals at the half. FSU’s defense has been so porous, they don’t really need threes at this point. Just don’t let down, minimize turnovers, go for the kill in Q3.
Yeah they are tearing that zone up. Everytime they guard the three they just drop it down low or get an easy lay up.
Our gal Lindsay will be on with Ron Callan at the half……….cue the pastry jokes
Lots of open shots for the Beavs in the first half, gotta believe largely due to coaching.
How did she get there? There’s no airport.
LOL
Outstanding.
Leave it to the schidzo rodent!
What does Rueck need to say and do at halftime? Does the lead feel “safe?” Is FSU flat (I gather their coach is not) or have they underestimated the Beavers?
1) Ignore the scoreboard
2) Expect a run by FSU, limit it to less than 8
3) Play our game, set up half court, no quick shots unless an absolute lock
4) Have fun
What’s the Schnell connection these days? I thought she got some stellar national gig? She’s a few years removed now, does that still make her a Beav expert? Her thoughts weren’t that astute when she was here.
She writes for, I believe, USA Today, I guess you’d say “general news”, certainly not a lot of sports.
Callan likes to interview her and plays up her longtime connection to the Beavs and Scott.
I didn’t hear anything significant from her today.
Kind of disappointed her mention didn’t trigger a comment from WSN.
TAYA, her second 3
I like Rueck, I thought Jones was sloppy around the hoop and it looks like he took her out for a few.
She only has one foul, but he wants to keep fouls a non-factor, she’s RB solid today.
Aleah also on the bench. Scott has Taya out there as the only senior to guide the talented youngsters.
I am looking for Noelle to get some time,……in a while.
I thought he might have pulled her because she missed an easy layup and got rejected twice inside. She returns and makes two sweet moves and scores. I’d like to think that is the genius of Rueck!
You could be right, I’d like to hear what Bill says about that.
One thing sure, Scott got rest for Jones (she sat for 13 mins) and showed, again, that he trusts Jelena M.; Mack and Taya seem to me to also be an asset inside to help make up for Jones being out.
Ask Angry what he thinks, he said he Rueck’s high point would be the final four from years ago.
I’d kind of like to hear from “Beavblows” or whatever name he goes by. Didn’t he say Rueck’s run was over with the program when they were 3-5?
If Goodman comes back and if Brown is anywhere near her pre-injury self, Rueck will have a monster team next year.
Add in Kampschroeder who’s another Pivec and the Beavs will be loaded. She’ll be ready to go like TVO was.
Lady Beavs just running the same play over and over again. Fsu just can’t stop it.
High pick and roll. Goodman drives, if the opp center helps, pass to Jones otherwise continue drive to basket. If guard cuts off Goodman, she kicks it out for three. If three isn’t open, dump it back into Jones who has established a deep post from the pick and roll.
What a sequence!
Nice Steal by Goforth on inbounds pass.
Ahead by 19 and she still hustles to make it 21! No quit in that gal.
Everyone loves a Cocks and Beavers match-up
Can’t believe you beat BG to that one.
WBB wins 83-59. Two down one to go!
Wow. Impressive point differential. As others said a few eeejs ago, this team is peaking at the right time, FR TVO a nice addition!
Opponents are going to take them seriously from here on out.
#1 and #3 seeds out of MBB’s side of the bracket and #2 just narrowly escaped. If we can pull off another upset, the path would appear to be widening a bit..
Not sure seeding matters much this year.
Or what conference the team is in.
I drink the PAC KoolAide regarding WBB, think the conference does a good job preparing teams for high level competition.
My rump is sore because of Big 10 let downs.
MBB delayed to start around 6:55
Livestats requires a password, if ya hack it please share ;)
Just use the cbs website. They keep up pretty well
Thanks
It’s interesting seeing the divergence between the pro and college game. A lot of these guys who are top pro prospects don’t necessarily have games that translate well in college (e.g. the Tennessee guards).
I’m predicting an OSU victory
Original
You are a bold one…
I like the Beavs early energy. Cowboys only basket on an unintentional bank shot. Beavs need to make their open looks though.
Poor shooting…
And on cue blow a layup
Man, Alatishe can’t buy a bucket in the tournament.
Alitishe is in a serious shooting funk, 0-3 already, one unimpeded layup, and two short jumpers.
We need to make the easy shots. Love the defensive intensity.
Parker on 1190am,
We look tight…and like crap.
If we can make shots, it seems we can hang with these guys.
Pigtails on a MBB player. WTF?
Wow that foul on Ethan where Cunningham pushes him away. Bias much
Stupid foul by Thompson, just when they are finding it on offense.
Cunningham pulled the same trick that Thompson does to draw fouls. Hunt should run the point for the rest of the game. His quickness can break the press better
Tucker hasn’t played much in the postseason, but he’s looked good aside from one defensive possession.
Calloo giving it to the ok st bench. Maybe too early?
Needs to keep his emotions in check, celebrate when you’ve done something like win the game. Interesting that Tinks went with Tucker instead of Andela, seems to be working. Tucker has a basket and a blocked shot.
Probably just saying hi to his old teammates :-)
Alitishe should just go for the dunks. He’ll draw a foul if he misses
When’s the last time we had a bench that could catch us up and get us ahead…tinkle finding winnable matchups.
When Miller coached..
It’s why I don’t worry when Ethan gets in foul trouble and hits the bench. It helps the team avoid his bonehead turnovers.
Yup
If a Beav did that foul……they’d be ejected.
Flagrant? Tough call. He did get all ball first…
Who the hell is Tucker?
A great man.
Who knew we were this deep?
Putting in work. Had one bad defensive possession tho.
Wow, his offer sheet is actually very good…Wake, Depaul, Baylor…
Used to start earlier in the year. So andela must be hurt. Tucker stepping up. Earlier in the game with. Reichle drew the charge, I noticed the team huddled and the players all seemed to be talking about things they are seeing on the defensive end. Their chemistry and poise during this run has been impressive and the different. Shots will fall some but it’s the other things. Hope Hunt isn’t too sore.
Tucker in for offense.
Andela better rebounder and defender but offensive game is really just putbacks. Tucker can play with his back to the basket.
He was looking a little hesitant though.
They’ve become a tough group of basketball smart SOB’s. Even if they lose, I’m impressed by this run.
Makes you wonder what if Tinkles kid went elsewhere
Have to wonder what the plus minus is for the postseason games when Thompson is out
Alatishe called for a charge when the guy ran into his teammate.
Terrible call
Rotation with Lucas at PG just doesn’t work.
Hunt is supposed to be back. I guess silver isn’t an option. Even Alitishe brought it up once.
I’d expect to see ok st full court press
Ok St’s coach is horrible if he doesn’t recognize that.
Lucas..no.no.no…..yes
This is incredible.
Calloo!
Calloo is insane. Notice he’s also playing hard on defense too. Altishe can get a shot against anyone, just needs some touch.
Wonder if Cunningham’s hip is bothering him from the last game.
They are running two guys at him when he touches the ball
Usually including Silva or Tucker
Franklin with an incredible play on D to make up for a bad possession.
Tinkle is winning some serious player points with these deep rotations.
They are playing some D!
Everything I’ve seen every other school do against us, we’re finally doing to someone else…
We just need Isaiah Johnson to put in an MVP performance in his first postseason appearance.
And a running QB
Butter is good
Hunt with a couple bad decisions.
Anderson for OkSU has him figured out. He’s come close to picking his pocket 3-4 times now.
Yup
Cunningham starting to play hero ball a little bit. That’s fine. They make a tough three, fine. They won’t make a high percentage of those. Keep them shooting tough shots.
But Hunt needs to be taking the ball up.
That Anderson guy is good. I’d draft him if a GM.
Not sure about the 10 second call. I rewound it and he was across the line with 21 on the shot clock.
I saw that too.
Another bogus foul call on Lucas after he barely touches the guy.
WTF is Lucas doing
Nightmare watching ET dribble for the last shot
Good first half. Need to keep up the defense in the second half.
Key to second half is to break the press and make them pay.
It does look like ok st players defer quite a bit to cunningham. They look like they don’t want to try to make a play themselves.
Best OSU basketball I’ve ever seen…sadly the great teams pre-date me.
The crazy thing is we aren’t playing our game at all on offense. We’re playing their game and somehow beating them at it.
Other adjustments, Lucas has to get a little more control of himself.
Alitishe, don’t lose faith. Keep attacking, they’ll start dropping.
Calloo, don’t heat check with low percentage plays. Keep working for good shots.
Kick in to Silva..
I would add that Hunt needs to play under control if he goes back in. Man, if Altishe’s shot was falling they could be up 20. I also wonder if Andela is injured, I would think he would be good for some interior defense and give a couple of fouls if needed. I guess Tucker has served that role well so far.
You’re never going to get all five guys playing their best on a given night…
On good teams, other guys step up. We’re finally seeing Beavs do it.
Hey Tinkle, please keep ET on the bench unless the lead crumbles.
One thing to note, in all of these wins, they’ve shot the ball better in addition to playing better defense. When they were losing, it was crazy how many open looks they would miss.
It’s a mindset thing. So much of basketball is psychological. Tinkle gets a ton of credit for that.
There’s a lid on the basket when alitishe shoots
No shit
He got one! Glad to see the effort is still there
I will say alitishe is doing good on defense vs cunningham. Has the length to make cunningham shoot over him. Also had that nice straight up block. Cunningham is going to think again when alitishe is on him.
Looked like Calloo got smashed by two Okst players on that entry pass. At least the ball went out off them.
Three of ok st starters have three fouls. Start attacking the paint. Esp Anderson.
Oh here we go…back to reality.
Take care of the fuckin ball and don’t pick up your dribble before your ready to pass
I think Hunt must be injured. This lineup is not working.
ZR can’t hit the broadside of a barn tonight
Reichle has badly missed three wide-open threes. These refs are ticky-tacky. I hope the Beavs get some calls.
Chernobyl like meltdown
Beavs can’t handle this press. I don’t blame them…looks intense.
Silva misses point blank shot
Good thing silva can’t jump. He’d get called for fouls all the time if he did but gets the block instead.
Geez, Thompson was fouled at least twice on that tough drive. Thank God, he made the shot. Alitishe with four fouls, they need him for rebounding soon.
Cunningham is gett3the superstar treatment.
Beavs vs Cunningham and the refs. Even look at him,and it’s a foul.
Thompson showing up big
Game is about slow down considerably with both teams in the double bonus. If the Beavs can get a fifth on Anderson, all they have left is cunningham.
Anyone knows andelas injury?
Or why he’s not playing
I think it’s because of his play earlier. Cold on both ends of the floor.
Andela hasn’t played tonight at all. Looks like Hunt is now injured also.
They are not even guarding ZR
I think someone may have to step up and hit a three. Lucas and Thompson both had chances.
Lucas and Thompson and that Coolio dude all have my green light.
I might have a coronary. How cool will it be if they win this?
Thinking of hitting the bourbon..
Smoke some weed.
25mg.
Don’t jinx it. Although I have found myself like the tinkle family and putting my hands palms together.
Wow, that call was complete bullshit. Ref anticipating a foul that wasn’t.
Cunningham must have been sleeping during the Alitishe scouting report.
Alitishe now has nba scouts attention
Fuck. Learn how break a press already
Gonna have to earn it…!
Tinkle needs to get the team composed.
Fuck Lucas get over the line
Please no Thompson dribble around until 8 seconds is left on the shot clock.
Craig Robinson street ball time.
Just stupid decisions, calm the fuck down!
ZR is sucking shit. Lost the ball twice on that sequence
How many steps does Cunningham get?
3.5 steps, just so you know.
Haha
ET, I salute you. Carrying the team
We won.
Remember Luck O Da Beavs
Wish I was as relaxed as Calloo
Smoke some weed.
I would if it wasn’t a school night
WHO IS THIS TEAM AND WHERE ARE THEY HIDING MY BEAVERS?!
I have been waiting for an announcer to say “who ARE these people?”
This could happen!
Make it happen!
Sweet 16, baby!
Thompson has been clutch in a lot of different ways at the end of this game. He’s not perfect, but he’s coming up big when we need him.
Brave hit trifecra today?!?
Wow, though another stupid play. If miracles happen it starts with fouling a three-pointer with 25 seconds left.
What a day to be a Beav – unbelievable!!! Holy crap, Sweet 16…
If this really happens I suggest we all go buy a Powerball ticket tomorrow. Beavergopher Stadium has a nice ring to it.
WOW!
Three up three down!!!!! Luck O’ The Fucking Beavers!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow.
Didn’t even have to get a forfeit win.
Excellent Point !!
Yeah about that…so you can just ignore a ‘post season ban’ and show up and play anyway? What if weeks later the NCAA appeal fails and they ‘enforce’ the ban, would all of their games from the tournament be foreited? Had OK State won tonight and the scenario happened, I would have been pissed. I’m glad I don’t have to waste time worrying about a ‘what if’…
When do we play next?
Loyola Chicago with the praying nun. God will be against us in this one.
We are screwed.
Well, she is 101 years old….when’s the next game?
Saturday 1140am
MBB next Saturday 2:40 pm (ET), per Turner Sports/CBS
WBB Tuesday 4:00 (PT), per Parker
Baseball: Tuesday 5:35 pm (PT)
WBB against South Carolina?
Against the dreaded Cocks!
vs the furry beavers. Lots of hair!
Not likely. Instead of carpet, more likely linoleum with a runner…
Holy crap! That was amazing! Go Beavs!!
What a day. What happened to WSN? Did he go back to Disneyland?
Not a chance. Still here. Still alive. Still happily married.
Was a busy day yesterday. Still found time to enjoy the game whilst working on shit around the house beforeand after.
Go Beavs!!! Sweet 16 baby!!!
Sweet 16 Mother Fuckers. 3 for 3 on the day. Oh and we’re the #1 OSU in basketball bitches.
It’s good day to be a BeaverI
I’ll drink to that!
Bodhizafa for me…
MBB: PAC 12 Champs. Sweet Sixteen. Not done yet.
WBB: Blowout win, at least one more game, and looking better in the next next few years.
Smith, you paying attention?
Way ahead of you.
Earned, not given!
Ooooossssuuuuu
Fight fight fight!
Pouring a glass of Old Forester 1920 to OSU! Men and women getting it done!
You getting all of this?
Aroma: n intense medley of cherry preserves, drippy caramel, dark chocolate, thickened maple syrup and seasoned oak spiciness.
Taste: Dark caramel coats layers of malt nuttiness and sweet graham cracker all warmed by green peppercorn and coriander spice brightened with a hint of cedar.
Finish: Tart apple crispness gives way to a long smoky finish full of toasted marshmallow, chocolate and graham cracker sweetness.
I wouldn’t mind some Aberlour single malt right now…
All that, AND 115 proof. It’s a nice bourbon.
just wow, great day to be a beav!!!!
Damn, the Beavs had a 56-36 edge on the glass AND blocked 11 shots. Held Okst to 27.7% shooting. Needed it with the 17 turnovers.
Those ‘passes’ to start the 2nd half #smh
Watching while staying at the Skyhook motel in Mitchel OR!!…coincidence???
Is that the one with themed rooms?
Don’t let your wife look at the credit card bill.
Not sure….my wife booked it, haven’t had a chance to look around at the other rooms.
Is that in downtown Mitchell, or the business district?
It’s across the highway in the financial district.
Usually games at the end are microcosms of the season and for the Beavs it proved true again but for the positive.
Defense led the way. Held Ok St to 28% shooting. That’s elite. Dominated the boards 55-33 but 20 turnovers negated that advantage.
Didn’t really notice it during the game but if you look at the box score, 3 Ok st players took 43 of the 63 shots and 28 of the 28 free throws. If they aren’t on, it’s not going to go well.
What’s interesting is ok state was coming back and then went back to their first half strategy of shooting deep shots. Im glad they did but it was either a foul
Called or they scored there for a bit. Everyone they scored they set up the press and we all saw how that went. Glad they stopped getting it to Ethan in the corner.
That could have been how their season went. Reverted to hero ball
Hail to Old OSU:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VYOxLfOu3U
And don’t forget, CW Football win over “#15” UO:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qsefx8mSH4
Anyone know what kind of bonus Tinkle gets for making it to the Sweet 16?
Not sure but I read somewhere they were foregoing the bonus for making the tournament. Would think he’d do the same for any other bonuses?
“Poach-a-Coach” threats and negotiation leverage?
I think there was a blurb out there that he’s actually lost 350k in bonuses so far because they were waived with COVID causing financial shortfalls.
Ouch. Gotta give the guy a lot of credit for getting the team this far without financial motivation.
It’s not like he’s on minimum wage.
Right? Feed the tip jar….
Hard to believe the Beavs completely dominated two “elite” teams in the first half and forced them to play from behind and then thwarted their second half rallies winning each game by double digits. This is heady stuff!
So, backing tinkle again, right?
House money…why not?
Beavs finish 6-20 on 3s. Cant argue they only win when making a lot of 3s.
Lol Sir Charles yelled “stop throwing the ball into the corner on a press” during the highlights.
Got to agree with that. Had trouble with press.
I mean it’s true. Throwing to the corner vs a trap is just asking for a turnover. Why guys go there for a pass just blows my mind.
Beavos getting to the Sweet 16 with a roster full of 5 star talent, pretty amazing actually.
post game presser https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLmlpIxi9N0. you have to fast forward a little
Loloya Chicago’s Krutwig, “point center,” with very good awareness, pretty decent ball handling for a big guy, good shooting touch, clever passing:
https://www.ncaa.com/video/basketball-men/2021-03-21/cameron-krutwigs-19-points-help-loyola-chicago-stun-illinois
Can Alitishe’s athleticism cancel him out? Seems like L-C spreads the floor pretty good.
More on L-C:
“It’s not just a 48-hour scout, we’ve been working our whole season on defense,” Krutwig said. “I guess people kind of forgot or something, but we were the No. 1 defense in the country this year. I guess people chalk it up to maybe being a mid-major or something, but we play hard, play the right way, and we follow the scout and follow the scheme.”
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/nancy-armour/2021/03/21/loyola-chicago-busting-brackets-shouldnt-surprise/4792409001/
Tinkle will get back his lost bonuses this year through the contract extension he’ll get this summer. Like a bonus makeup.
Sweet 16 matchup – Cinderella vs God
Vegas odds open up with God as a 7 point favorite.
More fuel for the fire.
We need someone with a higher church rank to pray for us. Someone tweet the Pope.
We better not get a covid outbreak or other luck o da Beav scenarios.
Loyola has some pretty impressive stats. Shoot over 50% as a team from the field and have the lowest points per game allowed on defense in the nation. How do you lose any games with these stats?
They are one of the slowest teams in terms of tempo. 342 of 357 teams. Similarly UCLA is about the same and the Beavs aren’t much better at 304.
So it could be a 50-48 type game. Early preview looks like it’ll be the battle of the big men. Silva vs their center.
I wouldn’t put Silva on Krutwigs. Let Alitishe get that assignment. Better defender.
We still have a height advantage because their guy is 6’9 and we can rotate Silva and Tucker. Obviously, they have a good defense, but a low scoring game lends itself to feeding the post.
Talk to the Illinois center. He’s 7 foot and couldn’t stop him.
Anyone else notice that at least one of the referees in the men’s game was from the PAC-12? Could that be part of the crappy job done by those guys?
That was an ugly game. Seemed like for the first 12-15 minutes it was fine. After that the refs became unbearable.
But a W is a W. Hats off to Tinkle and the team though for gutting out that win. Twice it looked like Oklahoma St was gonna take the lead but they never caved.
To the sweet 16!
Not saying they’ll beat UIC but with all the upsets, I dont see anyone left in their regional they can’t beat. This could be a special, deep tournament run.
Loyola Chicago, not UIC. Derp.
I can confidently say we won’t beat UIC this year
There are only 4 teams left in the tournament with better defensive efficiency than the Beavs in their last 3 games: Abilene Christian (no disrespect, but this is skewed by their conference tournament), Gonzaga, Baylor, and Houston.
So, in a region loaded with good defenses, we’re the second hottest and the hottest (Houston) has their key player playing injured.
Looks like I’ll be heading back to the bookstore to buy more Oregon State stuff – SWEET 16! It’s Crazy Times.
Let’s talk about Cade Cunningham. The guy’s obviously an incredible shooter and has great size for a guard. I keep reading how he’s the favorite for NBA ROY next year, but he seems to have real holes in his game. Maybe the pressure of the tournament skewed things, but you expect a dominant #1 overall pick to be able to rise to the occasion. It’s not like he put up bad numbers, but he disappeared with the game on the line against us and he disappeared in the first half against Liberty. I was just as concerned about Avery Anderson as I was Cunningham.
Cunningham doesn’t play defense with much energy, he has good, but not great athleticism, and he doesn’t seem eager to dribble at people. He’s lights out when he can catch and shoot, but he doesn’t seem to be able to create his own shot very well.
I don’t really watch the NBA, but is this guy’s hype based on his tool set or is the pro game really THAT different? Isn’t the league supposed to be all about 3 and D? He has the 3 down, but the D seems a little suspect.
Yeah, only saw him two games, but I wasn’t impressed. He’s very fluid, so he looks the part. Mental makeup and results weren’t good, though.
The pro game is that different. Much more wide open. On a team like Golden State, he’d average 20 easily. Is he a can’t miss superstar? No but at minimum he’ll be a solid pro for a long time with potential to be a perennial all star.
And they don’t play d in the nba anymore. Not important skill anymore.
Same for the Tennessee guards, their skill set is suited for the nba with the offenses much more wide open.
The main thing I saw with his was him playing hero ball late. His team was over reliant on him. Whether he asked to be the hero or not, the team saw him that way and that costs teams if that player isn’t on.
This is just dumb. Defense is vital in the NBA.
Not sure why people don’t think there’s defense in the NBA. Teams don’t advance past the conference semis unless they can play great perimeter defense.
It’s why the Rockets could never beat Golden State.
Yeah. In fact I’d wager D is as important now as anytime in league history. It is just the game has become outside in whereas a decade ago it was an inside out league. You have to defend the perimeter in the NBA.
He did have 5 steals in the game. Tied up Lucas once.
Played 40 min too.
He didn’t appear to be a ‘floor commander’ like Zion. Another year would probably do Cade some good. He was hyped pretty good prior to this game and I expected a lot more from him. I could sense that OK State was getting frustrated when the Beavs wouldn’t bend and kept on coming at them. I didn’t watch much PAC 12 BB this season other than the tournament, but the conference is pretty well represented here. I think the conference is tougher than many have been giving it credit for.
Another year? But why? Take the millions and get paid to develop.
I was more wondering if NBA scouts wouldn’t look at those performances at a higher level under pressure and reconsider him as the surefire #1. Mobley has had a more impactful tournament.
As you’re looking at the teams remaining in our side of the bracket, you can fondly reflect on the fact that we already beat Houston on the recruiting trail for our PG of the future, Cruz Davis (C/O ’22).
Ducks with a blowout win over Iowa, and Pac-12 is 7-0 so far in the tourney.
Ex Beav Destiny Slocum scores 2, yes 2 points as 4 seed Arkansas loses to Wright State.
I guess she shouldn’t have left.
