I think Tinkle was being too much of a gentleman not starting his son earlier. Play the best guy, and Tinkle Jr is much better than Langston. He did the entire team and fanbase a disservice by taking that stance. He did the same with that walk-on fiasco last year. Enough with the gestures and manners.
Somewhat agreed, but I think little Tinkle needed some time to get his feet under him. He was pretty bad to start the year and looked a little lost. Easing him in may have been what contributed to him figuring it out.
Is that the series once included a story on a kid named Marcus Dupree? I caught some of that story while working out. What a ridiculous talent that kid was. Some of the coaches said he was so big, so strong, and the game came so easy to him they thought he was screwing off, when he wasn’t. One of the impressive things to me was that Oklahoma switched from the option to the I-Formation IN SEASON to take advantage of that kid’s ability.
In college, he apparently wasn’t the same after his concussion. Now we see so much more on concussions, CTE….
Back on topic, Beavers in a tight one so far tonight….
Why do two guys go for the block? Then leave two of your opponents wide open under the basket for a rebound and putback. Been seeing this all season and its fucking maddening. Box out FFS
Two guys are killing the Beavs. Kuzma and Poeltl. GP2 with 3 fouls by halftime. And much like the game in SLC, Beavs shoot ONE free throw in the first half
Utah steadily pulling away. We got hot shooting out of the gate in the first half, but nothing going in the second half. Utah dominating in the paint, as expected. If Eubanks could just get a little of what Poeltl has for a game, how great would that be?
Reid got absolutely bailed out by Thompson Jr. If we had lost that, I would’ve driven back to Corvallis tonight and made sure he never plays basketball again.
Great news is, it seems like Thompson Jr has ice in his veins! With more experience, that will serve him well.
True. We got jobbed in Salt Lake, they got jobbed in Corvallis. Evens out in the end.
I’m just happy Thompson proved himself clutch at the line. Next year, he could become that go-to competitive guy angry talked about two blog posts ago.
Plus we poached one of their recruits. Man I hate Utah (the school, not the State)…I’d put them right there with Notre Dame. Those fans are delusional, and it makes me a bit upset we let them into the Pac because it only made them more delusional. Oh well, minor payback for the phantom PI call in 2008. I’ll never get over that homer game.
Refs almost gave it to them, but that Ute went brain dead and gave it back. Kudos to the refs for calling the foul on the half court shot. Unusual but legit
As a life long Beaver fan I seriously thought the refs were dicking around and taking their time because somehow they were going to say Thompson Jr was not in the act of shooting and then he was going to miss the one and one and the Beavs would lose.. Very nice to be pleasantly surprised for once. Unfortunately, the team had no business losing to Stanford and UCLA at home and I’m afraid that is going to define the season.
Whew! What a win!! Doesn’t change the fact that Reid is dumber than a bag of hammers and Olaf plays like a bigger puss than the girls on my daughter’s high school JV B team. (Zero rebounds tonight…..way to go big fella)
There was no way in hell Reid was going to block that shot given his amazing hops, so doing what he did was the ultimate in stupidity and even more mind numbingly stupid given his “status” with the league officials. I hope WT points that out to him, but it might get lost in the excitement of victory.
You don’t want to not contend the shot and give them a free look. I don’t have a problem with his defense at the end. He did get a little too close, but replayed showed that he didn’t touch him. Now you don’t want to put it in the refs hands there either, and we saw what happened. However, the ref should not of called the foul on that shot there wasn’t enough there to warrant a call in that situation.
Haha I was talking about that with my wife, then it showed the OSU bench and the coach was standing between all the players and court with his arms extended explaining to them not to do that. He apparently saw it coming as well. Haha.
Watched the end of the game at the roulette table in vegas. We damn near stopped the game to watch that finish. Happened to have a beaver fan from utah (no shit) playing with us. We went nuts when STJ was fouled. Awesome finish. By the way I’m down $50(I guess I’m not doing bad) for the weekend can’t make any headway though. #ohwell
I used to be really good at roulette. Went years without losing, but the last two times I played I lost, so I quit. I swear for a while I’d get premonitions/visions while sitting at the table.
Yup hit a few numbers big then slowly lose it back down. Might hit the double deck BJ in a few. Couple of guys are working the dealer on the next table $25 a hand. That’s my favorite.
I had the same feeling about craps, and the same results. Made some decent money, then played several times without winning a penny. Never played again. Stupid dice.
There are ways you can slowly chip away at the house and not lose too much to fast. Toss out the table min on the pass bet so you get the 7’s and 11’s before the game opens, don’t do the odds and then just play 6’s and 8’s.
My new favorite bet is the bonus bet up by the dealer called “Big, Small or All.” You have to be on the pass line and make the bet before a point is rolled. There’s no min amount (you can just play a dollar on each if you want.) If the shooter rolls 2-6 (Small) before crapping out you get 34-1. Same for 8-12 (Big). If you’re playing all and they hit 2-6 and 8-12 then it’s 175 to 1. So you can turn 3 dollars into 243 and it’s a bunch of fun.
The good news is the Beavs don’t have any bad losses. But this is still not a tournament team. Too inconsistent. However the NIT is still very doable. Need to hold serve at home. If they could somehow figure out how to beat UCLA or Stanford on the road (teams behind them based on RPI) they’d be in great shape. I don’t see any road wins left on the schedule though. Only game left on the schedule I expect them to win is WSU at Gill. Other than that I got nothin. Colorado on Sat is a must win game but I think Utah is the better of the two so it was good to get this win tonight. Right now the Pac would be a 6 bid league imo. Cal still has some work to do. The five ahead of them would be in.
I know every fanbase has their share of delusional fans but this one was over the top delusional…….

How is it that the ‘play not to lose’ mentality of Utah football also exists with Utah B Ball? Double digit lead with less than 3 to play, and they go to their “no score” offense.
Taylor’s foul was atrocious, but it absolutely should not have come down to that play. Utah should have won this game running away. I don’t attribute this loss to Taylor. I blame it on horrible game management, and choosing to milk the clock and go to no score mode when there was still 2 and a half minutes to play.
What game was that person watching???? Utah did not have a double digit lead with less than 3 minutes left. Bad at math, on crack or delusional? The point where Utah took a 10 point lead came with 7:44 left.
It addition to not being able to tell time, this idiot doesn’t mention that Utah went for three to win at the end instead of getting the ball inside to Poetl and play for the tie.
I was at the game, and it definitely took 5 years off my life. I could not fucking believe Jarmal fouled the shooter (wait, I can definitely believe that), and Stevie made a vet move that won us the game. I was discussing with my friend whether Stevie or Malcolm should be in. I guess Tinkle made the right move.
I think the NIT would be good progress for the team and I think based on what we have seen so far the Big Tourney is unlikely buy people here are talking like it is mathematically impossible which is simply not true. I think 10-8 would be a virtual lock and 9-9 might get you in.
It would require winning 3 road games, most likely. When people write them off, it’s because they’re awful on the road and all 5 of those games are likely loses. With only 3 home games remaining, there aren’t enough potential wins. Anything can happen…sure, but the trend is your friend. The body of work is large enough to make the reasonable assumption they won’t get 3 out of 5 road games. They might even need 4 out of 5 or all 5 depending how things play out. Long odds. NIT is still in play, though.
Yes sir. Which is why I stated the most overrated QB in NFL history. Was he good? Yes. Great? Not imo. He still holds the record for most interceptions thrown in NFL history. He took too many chances that fucked his team. His last pass as a Packer was an interception in overtime of the NFC championship game against the Giants
The reality is that we got very fortunate in this game. We played well in stretches but most of the time Utah was the better team. Utah gave us problems inside, much like Colorado will. Utah had some brain fart turnovers down the stretch, throwing the ball out of bounds twice to wide open guys. Having said that I was proud the team kept grinding it out and kept themselves in the game enough to steal one at the end.
Colorado game is probably going to be real similar. We got to take care of the ball and make our easy baskets when they are there to make.
I thought Bruce had a nice game at point, seemed a little more in control this game. It seems the offense needs that slashing point guard to drive in kick, which the Utah guard was good at last night. If Bruce can provide it, that would be a bigger plus than any scoring he might provide.
They basically took our previous Beaver logo and changed the buck teeth to sharp canines. Those guys are paid way too much money, no matter how much it is.
We need to run zone like 10% of the time. The guys just haven’t executed it well at all. Seem to always give up wide open looks and tons of offensive rebounds.
Looking at the football team you have to think we have gotten better at every position apart from the oline maybe. Just from another season with the system and in the strength and conditioning. The three dl jc transfers is intriguing with their size. The big question is how much better will we be? Will it be good enough for pac-12 wins? I know its way too early but i think the Minnesota game will set the tone for the season. If we can pull that off it would give the team confidence and momentum. Like i said its way too early but just on my mind after signing day.
Agree but i do think qb will be upgraded and o-line i think should be about the same. If fangupo is eligible will be huge for size and rotation up front.
Oline will get better, everyone has starting experience. They will hit the weight room and get bigger and stronger. Of all the positions they are the least too worry about on the team…..maybe kickers…..but they don’t count.
CBS Sports and USA Today projecting Oregon State to play in the first four of the NCAA Tournament in Dayton as a 12 seed. Pretty Surprising, thought they were a ways away from that. If they can beat Colorado this weekend, they should be on the right side of the bubble for the committee, just can’t lose to Wazzu. They just need one big road win. They just need to play 40 minutes against a team like Cal or USC. Probably need GP2 to go off though. I have a feeling their chances will come down to winning a big game in the PAC-12 tourney. Next 8 games are pretty huge though before then
They’re on crack. Beavs would have to win 3 road games and all home games to make the tournament. The RPI only helps so much.
If the Beavs were just average on the road I’d say they have a chance, but I have all 5 road games penciled as loses. Totally different team, and this has been a 2 year pattern, so why would it change? If Tinkle and Thompson go nuts, maybe…
Here’s a question: do the Beavs pass the eyeball test of a tourney team? To me, they don’t for various reasons (poor rebounding, no inside scoring, etc). Now if Tinkle and Thompson peak over these final 8 games that can change, but in my mind that’s the only wildcard and only way they get to that level. Both of those players need to become 20 points per night type of guys. Then you have a tourney team, but one that would get knocked out in the first round…
I think NIT is reasonable, but I’m not even sure they’d make that if they continue on their current path and lose all 5 road games. Also, they need to take care of business tomorrow, which probably won’t be easy — CO has a much better inside game.
If OSU could rebound at all they’d probably have a few more wins than they do. I’ve never seen a team so bad at boxing out, which is odd because it requires almost zero actual skill.
It’s too bad the Beavs have the shortened schedule this year. 2 more non-con games against semi-decent competition and a 15-8 record would also look better. I guess it couldn’t be prevented, but it can’t happen again. Most teams have played 23 or 24 games not just 21 at this stage.
I don’t know for sure. I’ve asked a couple of times on here and I’ve only heard that there were some cancellations, but no specifics. Maybe somebody knows the details.
The only thing I remember was the return game against Mississippi State was pushed back to next season. Off the top of my poor memory, logistically neither school could make it work this season. Other than that I don’t remember hearing about any games being cancelled.
OSU and Mississippi State have decided to delay the second game in their home-and-home contract. The Beavers tentatively plan to play the Bulldogs in Starkville, Mississippi, in the 2016-17 season.
Best shot is to win the Pac12 tournament and become an automatic bid. Need to improve our place in the standings though, to avoid having to play on day 1.
In other words, the NIT would be a nice place to land still.
Pretty saddened to hear that TBH. Even though he was a Duck, he won my home high school a state championship, so I’ll never be able to hate him too much.
F’in Riley and Schnell………Tacoma Dave got in a few shots today on JoeBeav. Talked recruiting and the old misguided mantra of Corvallis as a negative and the shortcomings of the previous staff.
Brenda Tracy might have a differing view of Riley’s “character”. Article was all over the place, Earthquake Enyart, huh? I think the similiarity is that Riley had the same number of losses in one season that Osborne had in his whole career?
A Beaver returns to Gill.
Thursday yours truly attended a basketball game in Gill for the first time since AC Green and Co.beat UCLA for a share of the PAC 10 title. Quite the homecoming! Almost brought my toxic luck, but bailed out by some major stupidity by Utah. CU next. Go Beav’s.
Go Beavs!
Stinky…
If anybody cares or looks at the NIT as progress, home sweep has to happen.
Agreed. Utah and Colorado have rpi of 16 and 23. These are gotta have games. Utah appears to have righted the ship. Gonna be tough
I care and view the NIT as progress, but it ain’t happening.
Yes, hopefully Poeltl doesn’t kick our ass inside too badly tonite. If Utah plays decently then it’s a tough match up.
Nothing worse than a stinky beaver :(
Scotty been hitting the dating scene again?
I was dating someone at the end of last year but decided I needed a dating and life reset. Still got stuff to figure out. /scottyproblems
Just finished the 30 for 30 on ESPN about the 1985 Chicago Bears. Good episode, whiskey recommended. Still the most ferocious defense I’ve ever seen
Is that the series once included a story on a kid named Marcus Dupree? I caught some of that story while working out. What a ridiculous talent that kid was. Back on topic, Beavers in a tight one so far tonight….
I think it’s the same show. I never saw the one about Marcus Dupree
Olaf with a monster start
I remember when we used to play defense. Good times
I remember when many teams played defense….(wait, which sport are we talking?)
Why do two guys go for the block? Then leave two of your opponents wide open under the basket for a rebound and putback. Been seeing this all season and its fucking maddening. Box out FFS
Beavers crossing swords?!? Not good…
Two guys are killing the Beavs. Kuzma and Poeltl. GP2 with 3 fouls by halftime. And much like the game in SLC, Beavs shoot ONE free throw in the first half
So this fucking system won’t let me post 2 messages that simply say Go Beavs.
Go Beavs
Utes shooting 74% in the 2nd half
beavs are helping by not playing defense
Utah steadily pulling away. We got hot shooting out of the gate in the first half, but nothing going in the second half. Utah dominating in the paint, as expected. If Eubanks could just get a little of what Poeltl has for a game, how great would that be?
20 minute champions
#42 is awfully big. we have no answer
Stinky Beavs.
This zone sucks. I wish they’d bench Olaf and just go man to man. They’d have a much better record.
Parker on a roller coaster.
He’s gonna need a case of Zee napkins after that game
Eubanks has turned into an absolute headcase.
And suddenly it’s a game again! C’mon, step up men
Ref revenge call on Reid
unbelievable
WOW MOTHER OF BAILOUTS!!! WHAT WAS THAT UTE THINKING?!
Stinky Beavs looking for a shot of penicillin.
Come on, Thompson.
This is way too much time for Thompson to think about these free throws….eek
Unbelievable !!!!
Thompson Jr. waited till late in the game to come alive and then………wow!
Reid got absolutely bailed out by Thompson Jr. If we had lost that, I would’ve driven back to Corvallis tonight and made sure he never plays basketball again.
Great news is, it seems like Thompson Jr has ice in his veins! With more experience, that will serve him well.
Neither foul should have been called, so it evened out.
yup. Pure BS call on Reid with 2 seconds left. The stripes giveth and taketh away. I’m fine with it since the Beavs got jobbed in SLC
True. We got jobbed in Salt Lake, they got jobbed in Corvallis. Evens out in the end.
I’m just happy Thompson proved himself clutch at the line. Next year, he could become that go-to competitive guy angry talked about two blog posts ago.
That was a pretty awesome game.
Tuned in with about 4 min left. Wow. Just wow.
That’s what it feels like when the refs take a game from you Utes. Suck it
Plus we poached one of their recruits. Man I hate Utah (the school, not the State)…I’d put them right there with Notre Dame. Those fans are delusional, and it makes me a bit upset we let them into the Pac because it only made them more delusional. Oh well, minor payback for the phantom PI call in 2008. I’ll never get over that homer game.
and there’s another screw job in SLC I had forgotten about. Thanks for that wonderful trip down amnesia lane
Refs almost gave it to them, but that Ute went brain dead and gave it back. Kudos to the refs for calling the foul on the half court shot. Unusual but legit
Almost went to bed …Wow crazy ending .
That was a classic game. I mean it was just good basketball all around.
Poeltl is a fantastic player.
We all know who the MVP of the game is, and it’s not GP2 ;)
Brandon Taylor
Keepin’ our season alive! At least on life support
You mean the NIT not NCAA right?
I mean maybe people will keep watching :p
Penicillin?
Better team won. Ball don’t lie. Nice free throws Stevie Thompson. ????
Sweet screen name.
I might have to change my name to that.
:) :) That should move the RPI up to around 35. Beat the Buffs!
only to 55th according to this site
http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2016/rpi-live
Wow…didn’t see that finish coming
As a life long Beaver fan I seriously thought the refs were dicking around and taking their time because somehow they were going to say Thompson Jr was not in the act of shooting and then he was going to miss the one and one and the Beavs would lose.. Fair point, but it’s probably worse to play tentative and in fear of the refs
Reid is too stupid to be out there when the game matters…..period.
You don’t want to not contend the shot and give them a free look. I don’t have a problem with his defense at the end. He did get a little too close, but replayed showed that he didn’t touch him. However, the ref should not of called the foul on that shot there wasn’t enough there to warrant a call in that situation.
Was anyone else worried that when STJ made the go-ahead free throw, we’d do something stupid like rush the court early, get a technical, and lose?
Haha I was talking about that with my wife, then it showed the OSU bench and the coach was standing between all the players and court with his arms extended explaining to them not to do that. He apparently saw it coming as well. Haha.
Watched the end of the game at the roulette table in vegas. We damn near stopped the game to watch that finish. Happened to have a beaver fan from utah (no shit) playing with us. $100 on black. Thank me later.
Next play I’ll do it. In the pisser
Don’t put $100 on black in there. Get your ass kicked or arrested.
Bet is in
Thanks 13 black I’m up $35
Sweet!

RPI’s after tonight
Oregon 3
USC 16
Utah 17
Colorado 22 (how do they move up 1 spot after getting drilled by 20?)
Arizona 35
Cal 42
UW 52
Beavs 55
Stanford 66
UCLA 70
ASU 80
Wazzu 169 (ouch)
Non conference losses
Valpo 34
Kansas 4

I hope Manning wins his ring and retires on top……but let’s be honest….the Broncos are going to lose. Carolina is too damn good.
The Broncos D is pretty nasty. I think they have a good chance to win because of that…
That said, I might not even watch this SB it’s such a listless matchup.
that’s what everyone said in 1997 against Bob Favre the mighty Packers. And we all know how that one turned out
Brett Favre?
What about Brett Farrrvrah?
yes. I know. Most overrated QB in NFL history
http://cdn0.sbnation.com/imported_assets/209910/scaled_jpg_php.jpg
Farve was good but so many dumb INTs/forced throws ruined his place in history.

Kentucky got “re-wildcat-ed” by Nike. Their new logo looks like a staple puller?
https://twitter.com/Fischwick/status/695636692112449536
Looks like a reverse k state logo
They basically took our previous Beaver logo and changed the buck teeth to sharp canines. Those guys are paid way too much money, no matter how much it is.
That looks almost exactly like our logo, except they opened the mouth and added fangs instead of the buck teeth…
We need to run zone like 10% of the time. The guys just haven’t executed it well at all. Seem to always give up wide open looks and tons of offensive rebounds.

Sadly, you’re probably right. No Pac-12 team has ever made the big dance with only 9 wins in conference play.
However, 9 plus 2 in the Pac-12 tourney might get them close, depending on who those wins were against. 9 plus 3, I think they’d get in.
Maybe if other teams tanked as well.
When the dynamic duo are playing (Reid/Olaf) they barely look CBI worthy.
It’s too bad the Beavs have the shortened schedule this year. 2 more non-con games against semi-decent competition and a 15-8 record would also look better. I guess it couldn’t be prevented, but it can’t happen again. Most teams have played 23 or 24 games not just 21 at this stage.
Why did they do that?

God damn BDC and his shitty scheduling!
>God damn BDC and his shitty scheduling!
Assistant coaches do the scheduling for basketball. Currently, it’s Kerry Rupp that does it. Not sure who did it when Robinson was here.
Best shot is to win the Pac12 tournament and become an automatic bid. Need to improve our place in the standings though, to avoid having to play on day 1.
In other words, the NIT would be a nice place to land still.

Jack: He should’ve taken your advice and stuck to track, or maybe he’s finally realized it and is going that route. Best of luck.
That’s too bad.
Pretty saddened to hear that TBH. Even though he was a Duck, he won my home high school a state championship, so I’ll never be able to hate him too much.
Hope he does well at track or another sport.
I don’t think I ever saw what his injury was. Kind of wierd they don’t give a reason.
Bomani Jones is a fuckstain. Guess he’s never heard of GP2

Nice to see the O/D numbers balanced now so they can go after QBs and have a normal recruiting cycle. Fucking Riley…
F’in Riley and Schnell………Tacoma Dave got in a few shots today on JoeBeav. Talked recruiting and the old misguided mantra of Corvallis as a negative and the shortcomings of the previous staff.
Speaking of Riley. Who wants to laugh until thier sides hurt. Pre title to husker max article reads, N-club members see some of Tom Osborne in Mike Riley. http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=210690898
I wonder what part…..like they have the same number of moles on their faces? Perhaps their wives have the same name? Birthday in the same month?
Brenda Tracy might have a differing view of Riley’s “character”. Article was all over the place, Earthquake Enyart, huh? I think the similiarity is that Riley had the same number of losses in one season that Osborne had in his whole career?
Hey Washington, bow down to the (lady) Beavs.
Syd is back, 39 minutes tonight and continues to pick up rebounds at a good pace.
payback for last season
A Beaver returns to Gill.
Thursday yours truly attended a basketball game in Gill for the first time since AC Green and Co.beat UCLA for a share of the PAC 10 title. Quite the homecoming! Almost brought my toxic luck, but bailed out by some major stupidity by Utah. CU next. Go Beav’s.
