  1. I’m remaining neutral on the Hodgins stuff till he actually amnoinces something ( and signs in december)
Beavs have been Charlie Brown far too long. Seen this scenario before.

      • It ranks up (down?) there for me too, although once while coaching my son’s 3rd grade team, I had 3 kids who could dribble. One game all 3 were gone on vacation. I let the other kids play point guard for 1/2 a quarter each. I also had to ask the other coach not to play defense outside the 3 point line. That was pretty bad too.

  2. If Luton turns out to be a good QB prospect, combined with a defense that will be both more experienced and deeper next year, there’s no reason to think that team can’t win 6 or more games.

  3. Luton’s improvement and commitment might be providing some recruiting synergy and maybe influencing a commitment like Hodgkins?

Hoops related, several threads ago Jack posted a link to a pic of the Gill upgrades. The court was set for volleyball game and there was I think a protective black mat or some layer to protect the bball court? Anyway, I thought the black looked great and would make a classy looking basketball court. Not gimmicky and obnoxious like BSU smurf turf, but just really classy with the seat upgrades and seat colors going in Gill.

  4. So if the Beavs end up with Hodgins, that could likely mean we get Charles Moku Watson. Currently we have 19 commits. 1 is Mission bound, so 18 really.
Add a Hodgins and Watson amd we’d be at 20 scholarships.
Then, we would have 5 spots remaining for guys like Calvin, Evans, Nixon, and a couple of guys currently committed elsewhere. I think that would be best case scenario for us at this point. Would also mean a few guys would have to transfer or medically retire to open up enough spots to create 25.(which i fully expect)

There’s also potential for some of our current commits to flip elsewhere, so those last remaining spots will be an interesting things to watch.

    • Then you have to start looking at the WR position.

      Next year we have:
      Villamin-SR
      Jarmon-SR
      Hawkins-SR
      Lucas-JR
      Timmay-JR
      Collins-JR
      Sykes-JR (juco commit)
      Collins-JR
      Bradford-SO
      Flemmings-(2017 commit)
      Asemota-(2017 commit)
      Taylor-(2017 commit)
Quantino Allen(2017 commit)(listed as a WR on some sites, but I could see him playing defense)
      Hodgins (potential 2017 commit-early enrollee)
      Calvin(potential 2017 commit)

Some people say that we have too many WRs in this class to take on any more (like a Calvin)
I disagree. Hodgins being an early enrollee could fill Tyson Penn’s vacant spot from last year, and he would play as a true freshman.
Calvin would be a True Freshman type player
Flemmings/Asemota/Taylor are all Redshirt candidates, especially if Taylor’s injury lingers.

That would give us 3 seniors, 5 juniors, 1 sophomore, 2 True Frosh, 3 RS frosh, plus several Non-scholarship players.
Add the potential for 1 or more of our Seniors to Grad Transfer, and we have no idea what Collin’s illness means to the team.

I think a haul of 5-6 WR in this class helps balance the numbers out.

    • I did not see anything about his status other than doubtbul as mentioned above.. Seems like it’s more than a “hotspot” if you miss three games. Have these idiot announcers even acknowledged that he’s out? Also, they won’t beat Tulsa on the road either. 2-3 after 5 games is likely.

  5. This team is worse than WT’s 1st year with all those walk-ons. Those guys were better somehow. McQuaflin’ is a turnover machine and doesn’t play any D. He’s Roberto Nelson part 2. Stacy is a big recruiting miss — could set them back a while.

  6. Shit, this is shades of the CR era with not defending the three. I hope STj’s injury is truly not serious and that Kone is a stud or this team is in trouble.

    • Tinkle said Kone would have started from Day 1 if he hadn’t been hurt. He’s a high-energy level guy. With the losses they had from graduation, etc. I figured this would have been a rebuilding year. I think it’s unfair to compare this team to any of Robinson’s teams. They have talent and coaching, just little depth and experience.

  7. I can’t believe what i just saw. Who was that? He took a three quarter court shot with 7 seconds on the clock and Nevada gets the ball back and hits a three. WTF????

Bad guys 48-25. Would be Beava Cam Oliver 20 points.

Edit: It was Stacy who shot the ball from 75 feet away with 7 seconds still on the clock.

  8. It’s nice to see that Stacy is following Duvivier’s fine Beav tradition of somehow missing badly two feet from the basket. Having a guard who can’t make layups is invaluable.

  9. Gary Andersen and Wayne Tinkle still make me feel way better than Mike Riley and Craig Robinson did in their later years here. At least there’s that.

    • I know it’s just one game (well kind of two if you can’t Lamar), but this is awful basketball. No perceptible offense and lost on defense. It will be interesting to see how much getting STj back improves the team. He isn’t really a defensive juggernaut.

  10. Coach Tinkle points to his team’s youth and inexperience. But that doesn’t excuse or explain what we are seeing tonight against Nevada: failure to get back on defense; failure to beat your man down the floor on offense; a general lack of toughness and hustle. Selfish play.

More evidence that there may be a chemistry problem developing with this group?

    • These guys are very close. No chemistry problems. Have to get Thompson Jr. healthy and sit Stacy. I think they got him primarily for his defense, but it’s taking him time to get the plays down. He is a liability on offense. Tinkle does have a complex defensive scheme with lots of switching. Not much communication on the court and that has to change.

      • It’s only five games in, but I’m not seeing any “wow factor” with Stacy’s defense and he is a horror show on offense so far. In general, they don’t seem to be running any motion or set plays. Just some screens and a lot of one on one off the dribble. This ain’t the NBA!

  11. Need to sign a free agent guard to salvage the season. Give a finder fee and have Altman conjure one up. Plan B, let Syd W play on the men’s team. Any more Payton progeny available?

    • Strange to see one of those player “who’d-I-pick” events go OSU’s way….at least in football.

Maybe someday as a sign of REAL commitment, a player will don a hat or three, then remove them all and reveal a tattoo…

  12. Another nice part to getting Isaiah Hodgins, is it puts us in good position to pick up hos brother Isaac next year. Isaac a big OL/DL all conference player. Already nearly 300lbs as a junior.

    • Ideally, if they could get some JUCO December qualifiers to sign, that would also help save space in the 2017 class for more 4 year talent.

  13. Back whem he was a Coug commit, Hodgins was their most active recruiter, and they also picked up several commitments soon after he verbaled there. They also had a number of decomitments after he re-opened his recruitment. Hoping he can help entice some guys to OSU between now and February.

  14. I tried watching a little of the NU/Maryland game, but Dan Hawkins is so annoying as an analyst that had to turn it off. That guy is never going to coach again and he shouldn’t be on TV either.

  15. Holding my nose and rooting for jaOSU over Sparty. Can’t have Biles limping into a Rose Bowl berth despite not having beat anyone. Best Biley wins are against Minnesota and freaking Wyoming, both in Lincoln. WE almost beat Minnesota AT Minnesota, and we stink this year!

  16. “…Oliver hit eight of his first 10 field goal attempts en route to a season-high 24 points to lead the Pack to a surprisingly easy 83-58 win…”

“…The victory gave Nevada its first win over a Power 5 school since defeating Washington 76-73 on Dec. 8, 2012 and the 25 win gave Nevada its biggest win over a Power 5 school since defeating the Oregon State Beavers by 28, 75-47, on Nov. 15., 2006…”

“…He (Rakocevic) gave Nevada defenders more trouble than the more-heralded Tres Tinkle and front-court companion Drew Eubanks….”

“…Another key to the lopsided win was rebounding, especially at the offensive end. Nevada had 14 offensive rebounds leading to 12 points and won the rebounding battle, 37-32….”

    • If STj was not coming back and Kone was not out there with potential, I wouldn’t have much hope for this team. I’m not particularly impressed with Dew or Stacy at this point. GP-2 had already made a mark five games in to his junior year.

      • Imo WT needs to be a hard-ass with this team w.r.t. playing D and rebounding but I’m not sure he can do it with coach’s sons on the team.

In one of his post game interviews it seemed to me he was whining about shot selection, team ball, etc.and I understood him to say that he was “asking” the players instead of telling them.

        • Tres definitely has skills, but he looked like a little boy out there at times against some of Nevada’s rugged inside players and the disconcerting part is they are a Mountain West team. He needs to hit some threes to open up his game also. It looks like opponents are starting to scout him on his dribble drives too.

          • Imo both Tres and Drew are playing out of control and need some “guidance” from the coaching staff. Like frequent trips to the bench for real time counseling and time to reflect on what they’ve done.

    • Yeah… I’ve also not understood the use of G up to now. I understand Cheikh is much improved. But we should see a steady rotation of bigs to keep them fresh and to utilize all that size.

      • Big G looks like he can get his shot off inside almost anytime he wants, he is also a good foul shooter. Overall, he plays hard. Not sure why he was not getting any minutes in the first three games either?

    • I guess it’s better than Smilin’ Mike getting to the Rose Bowl in his second season. I hope Iowa beats down the Huskers next week and they also lose their bowl game. 9-4 seems to be Biley’s ceiling. I don’t want to see 11-2 because that will send Husker fans into a delusional stratosphere with expectations for next season. And at 11-2 you will finish the season in the Top 10 if you are in a Power 5 conference.

      • If you care too much about the wrong things, you worry too much about the wrong things. We didn’t fire Riley. He ditched us just like he ditched us once before.

        He deserves our apathy.

        • I’ve always hated Nebraska long before this and now having Riley just fuels my fire. I love to root for certain teams to lose!

And I’m not worried or concerned. I’ve seen Riley coach!!!!

  17. Utes up 14-3 now. Dominating defensively. I’m surprised to see Carrington playing, didn’t I read that he knocked a random pedestrian down and broke his arm or was that another Duck?

Nevermind, Utes gave up a big punt return and then Ducks scored on a trick play. 14-10

  18. OK fuckers, experiment time. I downloaded the the Sling app on my Kindle TV box and got the free 14 day orange package and and sports package that comes with all of the pac12 network channels and ESPN 1/2/3. It’s $25/month after the free trial. So far so good. Will advise.

  19. Utes falling apart on defense now, still up 21-17, but Quacks driving at the Utes 6 yard line.

Ducks just scored, shit I don’t want them to have any momentum going into the Civil War.

  20. Utes left plenty of time on the clock to loose this game. Their D has been getting g cut up the last few series. Gonna be a nail biter in utah.

  21. Checked the quack blogs. Predictably, nary a peep about Carrington’s alleged exploits of assault. Plenty of praise, though. Nauseating.
