Key to winning – Reid, Barton, Morris-Walker, Schaftenaar have to contribute something other than 0.
They were 0 -10 vs Oregon. 3 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, and 2 turnovers and that’s not too far off from their season averages.
Olaf needs to start making shots. We’ve seen him knock down some open threes, he needs to do it consistently. He had great looks against Oregon, just didn’t make ‘em. He needs to knock ‘em down moving forward.
I don’t feel like having Olaf trying to find th net again. I have seen him jack up 15 or so three pointers and not make more than 2. In game he doesn’t gt\et the job done. If they don’t fall over 33% of the time the not only are they bad shots but they also are leading to fast breaks the other way. Olaf is a dud. Pound Collier inside, have Moreland do more posting up also, consider more Moreland at the top of the 1-3-1 and quit running 60% of the offense through Burton. Burton should only be handling it on 15% of plays, Starks needs to learn the penetrate and dish just as much as he does shooting 3s even though he is our best shooter. Play Morris-Walker more and Olaf much less unless he cares to actually buy a damn bucket.

Some poster had this on BTD:
It’s all about the defense, for the most part. The Beavers currently rank No. 180 (180!!!!) in the nation in defensive efficiency. To put that in perspective, OSU finished No. 153 at the end of the infamous 0-18 season during the Jay John era (although its atrocious No. 264 ranking in offensive efficiency played a large role in that dubious mark).
Here are OSU’s final defensive efficiency numbers since CR started…
2009: 95
2010: 72
2011: 142
2012: 154
That’s called serious regression! The team does not play with any real defensive determination. They just go through the motions and seem to not mind being scored on at all. It just gives them the ball back that much sooner for Burton to try a pass or Schaftenaar to try to look good throwing up bricks.
Reid needs to transfer and get away from this program. I like him too much to watch him waste his eligibility under Robinson.
Wow, I don’t know who we can beat. This might be ugly the rest of the way. It’s getting uglier every game.
Hunt tweet: “He’ll back, I’ve been told,” Robinson said of Moreland. “But I don’t know when.”
What’s he mean by “I’ve been told”? Is it a grades issue?
Well. another ugh game. I was flipping between other games and every other game looked like basketball. Not sure what the beavs looks like.
Here were the good things out of the game,
1. Collier working hard in the post. Loved that. Teams will have to respect that now and should open things up outside.
2. Reid, Barton, Morris-Walker, and Schaftenaar decided to step up a bit. Nice to see that they can actually do something. A good stat line from the zeros I pointed out earlier. They went 10-21, 23pts, 14 boards, 8 assists, 1 block and only 2 turnovers.
And to the bad things, of course lots of them.
1. Burton – Waste of time. 27 minutes and zero points. He’s a big liabilty on defense. He should be boxing the hell out of people but he always just stands there hoping the ball comes to him. Find your guy, box him out of the paint. Collier or Reid can get the board if it doesn’t come to you but give your guy no shot at the ball! Also, he can’t be the guy who feeds Collier in the post. If Devon needs to get the ball out, Burton is no threat to shoot from distance.
2. Shaftenaar – He’s not a good game shooter, needs to work on shooting with guys all over him. But otherwise, the only way he’ll grow is to keep shooting.
3. Starks – Still not using his screens as best he could.
4. The screens this team sets are just bad. The defense isn’t respecting them at all.
5. So many times down the floor, it looks like there is no game plan for attacking. Discipline is clearly not there.
Burton standing at the 3-point line during the offense is absolutely brutal; we’re playing 4v5 because he isn’t a threat to shoot or penetrate from up there. Not even to mention his lack of defense or rebounding, or his turnovers. Just playing 4v5 for half the game is devastating.
I keep wanting to hate this team; Starks just plays street ball, Burton is garbage, we have no offensive system at all….and then I remember our best player is injured. It’s hard to be mad when you’re missing your most important guy. That doesn’t mean Craig gets off the hook, just that I’m not nearly as disappointed as I would otherwise be.
If the goal if this years team is to host another CBI Tournament game they are right on track. I think you can make the CBI with a losing record.
I watched the Ducks beat Arizona then the Beaver debacle…my only reaction. Jealousy. JB
CBI Madness….catch it!!
Did you wish you were down there rushing the court after beating a team that should have lost, (and actually did lose 1) of its 3 most recent games? Arizona was due for that loss. I agree though, a win would he nice for a change.
