    • Inconsistent and weird. But them sinking shots no pro team could stop kinda hurt.

I do have questions for Kyle “Steps” Anderson.

      Holy crap man!

  1. Defense hasn’t been very good, but at least they’re packing the paint and forcing UCLA to shoot long jumpers. It’s their best hope to stay in the game tonight

  2. Morris-Walker needs to get in the gym and work for hours on shooting. Has a good stroke but his jump shots are always way off. Needs to get to work. Not a great driver yet, needs that jump shot.

  3. UCLA has gotten away with at least 6 fouls against the Beavers that haven’t been called. Roberto just got fouled twice on the same possession. Gonna be one of those nights.

  4. Bad Joe Burton showed in last 7 minutes of the half. Horrible fade away shot, blown uncontested layup and another blown layup.

Honestly don’t want to see Olaf play much anymore. He’s bad. His whole point in playing was he’s a shooter which clearly he’s not yet. The Beavers miss Moreland. Need another scoring option and someone who can block shots and someone to play with a little energy. Burton isn’t very good, but when the Beavers go to the bench it is bad. Olaf is a liability on the floor.

OSU is so limited with options on offense. So much worse without Moreland.

    • quite honestly I don’t want to see any of them play anymore. I turned it off at halftime. This team is a fucking joke. Crais Robinson is a fucking joke. Zero fundamentals and all they do is play rat ball. I am done. I am officially on the fire Craig Robinson train. I am giving away my tickets to the Colorado and Stanford games. I refuse to watch any more bad basketball.

    • And Bill Walton is a babbling fool, spouting bullshit left and right…..although I hope USC does go after CR come to think of it.

I understand the injuries, but this team is not showing anymore passion than Jay John’s teams. We will see if getting Moreland back makes a difference.

      • I heard that too and nearly choked on my blizzard laughing so hard. And I was the one who thought this team would be better without JC! I don’t know crap, so don’t ever listen to me ever! This is just like our teams in the past, over matched and out coached. I am not one for superalatives, but I can’t see winning 3 games in league play, and this league is terrible.

        • The league isn’t terrible, actually has some quality teams. Losing Brandt was huge, but this team lacks shooting. Roberto is the only above average outside shooter on the roster that’s healthy. It allows teams to pack the paint and the Beavers have no driving lanes and try to force things in the paint. The Beavers need to get a knockdown shooter badly. They’ll have Nelson and Brandt next year, but need a guy who’s more of a specialist from three. Would space the floor. I honestly would like to see OSU get a transfer or two for an immediate contribution. Current freshman and ones coming in will take a while to develop.

          • Don’t forget a point guard who can distribute and defend, and center who can post up and pass out of double teams, and small forward who can defend the wing and hit a mid range jumper. It would also be nice if we had some players who could dribble or pass.

  5. This team has no passion. Starks has the worst body language, ever. He is constantly sulking on the court and jacking up 25 foot airballs. Compounding all that is this team plays shitty defense. It reminds me of pickup ball D where you match up with a guy your size and guard him with no concept of team defense.

Also, I think Bill Walton is throwin back pot brownies during the broadcast. He is all over the place.

  6. Guys in the game right now I think is to send a message to the other players. Rarely have seen this lineup the entire season. Other guys aren’t playing with any intensity or passion so they got benched.

    • I guess we will see if Angus Brandt is that big of difference maker, I have my doubts. I was so hopeful after the Kansas game, but obviously Starks is not going to play like that with any consistency.

  7. UCLA just has a lot more talent. That’s the difference. OSU hasn’t played that poorly of defense in the 2nd half, but one team has the Wear twins, Kyle Anderson and Shabazz Muhammad and one does not.

      • I don’t think they pass the eyeball test talent-wise or with basketball IQ BUT that is not what CR led us to believe. I could see 3-15 in league play, how does CR keep his job? Angus alibi…..Jared leaving?

      • You said you haven’t watched, so how can you analyze the game? If you had bothered to watch you would see a complete mismatch talent wise. Shabazz Muhammad has hit some tough shots, Travis Wear has gotten the ball in the post and just raised up over Olaf or Burton like he’s alone. Kyle Anderson has made some big time moves and just shot over guys. That’s talent. Beavers just flat out don’t have guys of that caliber. That’s a fact. If you think otherwise you’re not paying attention.

        • I didn’t analyze the game.

But the Beavs have highly rated recruits who had big time offers. There are a handful of players on their roster who would likely be stars on a different team.

          • Who? Nelson? He actually had a good game, but didn’t get benefit of some calls. Is Collier the other? Literally everyone else who played tonight is average or mediocre. To say a handful of players on this team would be stars on other teams is a baffling statement.

          • Nelson and Collier, yeah. But Moreland (I know, didn’t play) and Reid (had Florida, West Virgina, and Wake Forest offers). These players should all be much better than they are.

      • UCLA also beat Missouri who is a top 15 team. UCLA is a completely different team now. They’re a good team that will be in the NCAA Tournament.

  8. AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH – Collier gets a dunk but CR won’t let the game flow even if just for practice purposes – what the hell did he (CR) think he was going to accomplish?

  9. The Beavers just aren’t a good team. I don’t bother getting that upset anymore, no point. They’re gonna lose a lot of games, I’m no longer emotionally invested in any of these games.

  10. What are you guys complaining about? Bob DeCarolis specifically told me that the OSU Athletic Dept. could only have 2 successful teams at for one year. Us and baseball. We’re right on par.

    ~Tanya Chaplin

  11. I’m telling you guys,,,,,DVR is the way to go. Hit the magic -20 at the 16:01 mark of the second half. Good night… checked the final online. The only way to watch this team. Is there a tournament lower than the CBI? Is there a BIC or BCI? JB

  12. I think OSU Basketball will be lucky to win just 15 games this season. Outside of Washington State, and Utah I don’t see who OSU could possibly beat. They might get lucky and pull out an upset? I doubt it though. It is very disappointing that this team isn’t improving as the season progresses, and they lack the basic fundamentals in a weak league. It’s a different year, but the same shizz-nizzle! Groundhog day anyone? What makes it worse is the damn *ucks keep winning. Ok, enough with the bitching. FTD and Go Beavs!

  13. All y’all are missing the reality of these games.

We’re taking all the same shots our opponents are taking and making the same dumb-fuck bonehead plays on the negative side.

We’re not making our shots, and they are. And that leads to sustained energy on both ends.

Some of that has to do with talent. None of it has to do with Bill Walton showing off his pot scrip in motion.

Holy cow!. I think I agree with a lot of what he was saying. But the first time it was said should have been the last.

  14. and here’s another thought. Instead of leaving the team and going to the presidential inauguration tomorrow why don’t you get off your fat, bald ass and do the job that you’re being paid to do. Granted its a job your doing poorly but hey. Just calling a spade a spade.

  15. Well I am still disappointed in Rob’s coaching acumen but I got to agree with Walton that he is doing a lot of good things. The team seems to look okay when they play with a purpose but far too often half of the possession is just pointless dribbling. I actually like some of what we got going. I think Shaftanaar is going to be decent, I really like Reid, Barton has good tempo control and can actually set up the offense. Just think our front court next year will have Moreland, Collier, Reid, Olaf, Brandt and potentially a 7 footer (if either are at all serviceable). If we can get some decent guard play we could be a top 4 team in the Pac 12. I am not saying that we let Rob off the hook completely but changing a culture takes a long time. Plus firing Rob just reinforces the prevalent idea at the time Rob was hired that OSU is a career killing job.

    • For the first time, Berto started taking shots both contested and wide open. This game was quite a bit different than others in the last couple weeks because of it. In fact, it looked like it opened up the floor for others and even people like LMW, Reid and Barton started creating their own shots.

It’s the coach’s job to get these guys into that mindset and teach them how to their shots. They just weren’t making most of them. Burton’s wide open missed lay-up was a perfect example.

And even defense looked pretty good. UCLA has a ton of talent. Muhammad, Adams and Anderson will all be playing in the NBA next year. And they were all making contested 25′ jumpers like they were just having fun on the black top.

Our guys just don’t have that kind of talent, and the ones who have the talent to come together as a team and beat teams like UCLA are all just too young. But at least they started to look like they’re becoming more comfortable out there. And I really like that Olaf is starting to finally hit from deep. We’re going to have to live and die by the trey this year until the frosh and sophs finally come together and play a complete game.

        • You guys are taking the glass half full approach. I see a roster of mediocre talent playing with low effort and making dumb mistakes over and over. This is not a recipe for success. I think this is about as good as it is going to get with CR. At the start of the non-conf. schedule last year I was drinking the kool aid and thought we were on the right track. We needed a proven coach and we got a celebrity who is learning on the job, or I should say, not learning on the job.

          • I am more calling it like it is. This team will get better. Would I prefer a better coach than Rob? hell yeah, but that is not realistic at the moment. I have been critical of Rob and still am but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t done some things right.

          • Beavs played ok last night.

I think you’re suffering from rodent transferrence after what Burke and Hardaway did to that school whose hockey team will also lose tonight and tomorrow. ;)

          • It was a brutal night of b-ball for me that’s for sure. Goph’s have a decent starting five, but NO bench. Team really played like crap, but Meechicken has far superior players. Tubby cannot teach a coherent half court O, so when they don’t force TO’s and commit a bunch themselves, they are hosed. Really was hoping for an upset as we have the #1,10, and 30 rated HS players in the class of 2014 in the metro and the pipe dreams of them staying home probably went down the shitter last night.

Hockey is legit. This weekend is the end of the series with the The Fighting Sewage because the formation of a Big 10 Hockey league……… that sucks.

          • Don’t you mean the Little Six Conference?

Other than Minny, only a hot and cold Wiscy is any good. And most of Wiscy’s hot includes the two bottom dwellers in the WCHA and UAB.

I honestly didn’t know UAB had a hockey team until I saw that box score.

I don’t know about you, but I think the Little Six are going to suffer without the WCHA and CCHA. Do you think they’ll get the recruits if they don’t get to play the elites every year?

            Here we go!

          • One helluva a game, and tomorrow is gonna be rowdy.

Wilcox was just stone cold. Any other keeper would have given up about five or six sure goals.

          • He has been awesome. A lot of talent on the roster and no head cases this year. When they play hard, this is a great squad.

It is really a shame that we and wisky are leaving the WCHA. It will have no impact on our recruiting as we get the pick of the litter of the instate players. Michigan and Sparty have and can be great.

          • Yeah, they’re two different styles. Minny is consistent and deep. The team formerly known as the Sioux are great at fore-checking when they’re fresh and get a ton of quality shots in that span. But consistent teams with good keepers and withstand that barrage and frustrate them as happened last night. It also happened against CC last week.

Except UND should have had about four goals that Wilcox just stole with sleight of hand. Woog called about a dozen of those kinds of shots, but even a decent keeper would have stopped half of them. And Minny is so good on the counters. That’s what won them the game. I’m guessing MacMillan and Haula are bumped from the first lines for both teams. Neither looked particularly good while Grimaldi and Gleason for UND and Skjei and Reilly for UM did look like they belonged there.

It’s too bad about the WCHA. I’ll be watching the NCHC next year.

    • The “changing a culture” theme is a cop out. At the most it should take 4 years. All these kids come from winning programs, just because you play at Gill shouldn’t change your mindset.

  16. The thing that bothers me the most, is that they don’t execute with any efficiency. When they run the pick and roll, the screener doesn’t hold the pick long enough or didn’t get in a high enough position, or the ball handler will loop around the pick instead of rubbing off it. What you get is defenders who can take away the dribble and shadow the passing lanes. Then the rest of the guys stand around and don’t cut to the basket for a pass or to get the rebound.

Defense is the same way. They don’t attack the pick and roll, sometimes going under the screen and then shielding the over defender. Then they get lost in their rotations and are often out of position for rebounds. The EFFORT to execute is not there. That is where these “rat ball” comments stem from they don’t seem know how to execute and that comes from practice and that is on the coach. If your a good ball handler then you can split the double team, but we don’t have good enough ball handlers for that.

  17. An actual quote from Jackbeav:

“…But them sinking shots no pro team could stop kinda hurt.”

Wow sounds like UCLA had quite a game last night…

As for this talent gap excuse, why don’t you guys tune in when the team from Eugene with less talent than the Beavs plays, and most likely beats, UCLA on Saturday.

    • If UCLA plays like they did last night (which wasn’t all that spectacular, but it was deflating at times) Nikegon won’t come close to winning. Actually, UCLA looks they’re about to turn it on. They were a little too flashy at times and lost focus. But their talent is off the charts. Only Zona has the shooters to keep up with them if they’re having an average game like they had against us.

  18. Which teams in the Pac-12 do you see the Beavers beating this year? I don’t see anyone besides Wazzu (at home) and Utah. Sure, there could be another win due to a possible upset at home, but that is wishful thinking and not likely.

  19. Which Minority Candidate did the UO psuedo-interview?
    @kerryeggers
Word is Oregon will make Mark Helfrich hire official by Sunday. Minority interview went to Arizona State D-coordinator Paul Randolph

    ?@Stephen__Nelson
RT @DougHaller: There is a report that ASU co-defensive coordinator Paul Randolph interviewed at Oregon. From what I’ve been told, not true.

  20. g dub had to change his name since I feel extremely awful for Mike Parker as he has no choice but to witness this continued abortion. Stay away from Denny’s!!!!!

      • Also 4 star WR’s the Robinson twins from SanDiego, who are Duck verbals, are visiting Ohio State.
Meyer does not f around in recruiting. Dude is like a vulture goining after a chunk of carrion.
It would be sweet if they lose these guys. Duck poaching season has begun.

        • Meyer’s is savage. I’m sure he will have the Robinson twins believing the Ducks will be getting the “death peanlty” by the time he’s done with them. One of the Ducks few weaknesses was at WR last season and I’d like it to stay that way.
