  1. So where did the 4:30 team meeting info come from? Can’t find anything new regarding Cristobal, but that’s just a simple Google search.

  2. “Cristobal and the Hurricanes have been in serious talks that would make him head football coach, the Palm Beach Post confirmed Sunday. And now Miami is looking for an answer and has given Cristobal a deadline of midday Monday to accept the position, according to Ross Dellenger of SINow.

If not, and Cristobal decides to sign an extension with Oregon, the Hurricanes will retain Manny Diaz, as has been reported by the Palm Beach Post and others throughout the coaching search.

Cristobal is considering a contract that would pay the 51-year-old about $8 million a year, according to reports.

If he accepts Miami’s offer, Cristobal would leave Oregon, where he was 35-13 in just more than four years and won two Pac-12 titles and Diaz would be out after three seasons.”

    • LOL I’m sure Manny will feel very appreciated if he stays on. Everyone does their best work when they know their boss tried to replace them, but couldn’t land the preferred candidate.

      • I wonder who is lead in the negotiations if there is no AD? Is there an assistant acting as Interim? This is not good leadership as you point out and Diaz can’t be feeling good about the future even if Cristobal turns it down, which seems unlikely.

Schools desperate to recapture their past (Nebraska, Texas, Tennessee, Miami, etc.) take desperate measures and spend desperately, including dead money.

Diaz is no angel. Does anyone remember his two weeks as Temple’s head coach? Karma is a bitch, but I’m not sure if it’s even that when they all make millions upon millions.

  3. Been out all day with no internet. What’s the update on Taggert….er Cristobal?
Any recruiting news i missed? Saw Ott posted his visit pics

    • Reports are confusing but it looks like he took the job and told the team. 8 million or so a year. Miami have him a Monday deadline so clarity should be coming very soon.

      • Confusing for sure. Some say the 4:30 meeting wasn’t real, Mario in San Diego late afternoon; could have been zoom??
The beat reporter for the big zero tweets that a decision is not likely before Monday morning; Miami supposedly has set a deadline for Monday noon.

        • Saw this from Aaron Fentress:

I’m told by sources that there was no 4:30 p.m. team meeting scheduled today for Ducks football (some reports claimed otherwise).

However, I’ve also been told that Mario Cristobal is flying back to Eugene tonight and has cancelled recruiting visits in California for Monday.

          • Sounds like he is going to tell his team before he signs on the dotted line. Actually kind of a stand up thing to do.

Will be very interesting how things shake out, sort of feels like the end of the Oregon being the pac12 darling is coming to an end.

Recruiting front I haven’t seen anything besides Ott visited. He would be awesome to join with Martinez. Those two could be a great duo in a couple years.

          • They’ll be the PAC darling as long as Knight’s alive. The whole uniform thing is cemented for some time with Nike’s influence across NCAA and NFL….Ducks will always get more combos, “specials,”….

When Knight puts himself into a swoosh branded suspended animation chamber when he’s near death, the depths of his trust fund will be revealed…

    • For sure. One of those time where being kidless for a few days would be nice to have nothing keeping me from a spontaneous road trip to LA

    • Definitely better than the Sun Bowl. To play in an NFL stadium as sophisticated as SoFi will be an incredible experience. Plus, a lot of the So Cal players can stay down there and see family. Coaches can piggyback on the trip and do some LA recruiting or disperse as needed via LAX to hit their designated recruiting areas.

The main downside is the scheduling (12/18). 3 days after early signing period, and we don’t get the chance to maximize all the bonus practice days. On the plus side, there should be a good TV audience, and the 18th doesn’t really affect Christmas plans for those going to the game. Also, with as banged up as we are, maybe a couple fewer practices are a good thing?

      • I’m surprised the sun bowl persists, at least in its present form. Move it’s location (FLA, AZ, LA), maybe it’s date. It’s a fairly old bowl, but one that despite its longevity has never seems to have developed any real tradition or “pagentry” about it.

You really hate to see it…

    (Tweet from @mattprehm at Oregon’s 247 page)

“There is some bad mojo over the entire Oregon athletic department right now. That is all.”

  5. Is there any recruit from Oregon we were recruiting hard? Only 1 I know is the big lineman from Seattle area. Wonder if Knaak does decide Utah is his best fit tomorrow, that that kid might be interested in flipping to coach M. I believe he had taken an official

  6. Yahoo Sports ranked 42 bowl games and rated the LA Bowl #15.

They say, “Though Oregon State has lost four of its last seven after a 4-1 start, this rushing attack is extremely fun to watch. OSU will be plenty motivated to win its first bowl since 2013. “

Easy to agree with the rushing attack love.
    Any doubts about motivation?

Bowl game performance really depends on how they want to approach it. Do they let the younger guys get live snaps and see what they got. No better time to prove that than in a bowl game. There’s no real consequences. Let any guy with injuries or pro aspirations sit so they are ready for next year. Make way for the new class.

But I do want to win the game. 8 wins is a good solid number. Purely for pride.

    • You put the players on the field that give you the best chance to win.

There’s extra bowl practices, off-season conditioning, spring ball, summer conditioning, fall camp, to get players ready.

“On Twitter, OSU offensive tackle Brandon Kipper wrote to Kimmel, asking if he’d like to wear a No. 68 Beavers jersey on game day. Both teams will attend one of Kimmel’s shows during their stay in Los Angeles.

“They were excited about the idea of seeing the show,” Smith said.

Oregon State will be without two of its most veteran players in linebacker Avery Roberts and defensive end Isaac Hodgins. Smith said Roberts, the Pac-12?s leading tackler, had minor ankle surgery this past week. Roberts probably played his last game at OSU as it’s expected he’ll opt out of the 2022 season and enter the NFL draft. Hodgins, who has been out since August with a broken foot, is “very doubtful,” Smith said.”

I hope we get to see Fisher. He seemed faster than a healthy Roberts.

Hopefully Hodgins comes back next year.

Compared to the Alamo bowl and San Antonio, the LA bowl seems to be a better opportunity for the beavs than the ducks get in SA….LA has the great stadium, much more to do and see and recruiting benefits too. The Alamo bowl in a funky, old indoor stadium and the River Walk….that’s it for SA. I think the beavers got the better end of the deal going to LA. As a side note, watching the shit show in Eugene Just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy…..

J Smitty is our long term coach and I’m gonna punch anyone who disagrees. Mike Tyson level left hooks! We are DOMINATING on and off the field while all these other programs are grasping at straws!!!

From football to women’s basketball and everything in between we are without a doubt the premier University in the pac 12. The recent ESPN poll says it all.

    Go beavs 4lyfe!!!

  11. I get the sense that the Oregon job is a place where a coach can elevate their profile – not have a problem getting recruit$$$, but have to deal with Phil Knight on Line 1 every day. So you take the gig, elevate your profile and then move on to a job where you have total control over the program. (I’m sure Taggart thought he had more time at FSU, but whatever. Jimbo did a lot more damage to that program than the donors realized. Still a decent tradeoff for the national title though.

    • 1
      1

Agree. Is there a true Oregon guy out there that won’t use them for a pay bump every year if they’re good? Otherwise the next coach will either guy fired for under achieving or leave like the last two because they use it as a stepping stone. Either way, new coach every 3-5 years.

And a less than stellar record at Cal. But, could he do better with better resources at UO? Possibly.

If they want loyalty, he’s probably their guy.

At the same time, you can’t bitch about someone not being loyal when your own loyalty leash is short.

This is the thing they fail to understand.

The other thing they fail to understand is, even with all the uni’s, Nike $$$, bling and top flight facilities? At the end of the day? It’s still fucking Eugene, Oregon. Not a destination. A kid can hack it for 3-4 years of their young adult life. Most coaches aren’t gonna be lifers there unless they have a tie to the program or area.

They can claim top 5 college football program all they want. Anyone with half a brain that isn’t delusional can see that’s total bullshit.

Beavs gonna make bouille out of those buljoos until they have the cabris stuck in their conson!
    Meenoo, meenoo. Po-boy breakfast, out.

    – From the swamp.

  13. Aaron Fentress reports there is a team meeting at 7:45 am (like NOW) in which Cristo will announce that he is leaving.
Also says that Manny Diaz has been fired.

      • Agreed. Now they might actually get someone who doesn’t get consistently beaten by the two best coaches in the PAC-12 with considerably less talent (Shaw and Whittingham).

Cristobal is an excellent recruiter. I’ll give him that. But with his coaching skills they were always going to come up short in trying to summit Everest.

He could do well in the ACC. Really only Clemson he has to deal with. And they were down this year.

But the turmoil in Eugene is always fun.

We can always say he got skeered off by USC poaching Lincoln Riley

        • I think after they’ve been burned 2 times in a row bu a coach who had a “dream” school that isn’t Oregon, they’re going to find someone who views Oregon as their dream.
          So….Wilcox?
They already have his former DC in place.
Except i’m not sure theyre on good terms anymore

          • I think Wilcox makes the most sense if they want longevity. He wants out of Berkeley in the worst way, and he will agree to a large buyout on his co tract should he leave.

He can always fire Deruyter. He essentially runs the defense himself anyways.

  14. Oregon will swing for the fences now. Expect them to make a big play for Matt Campbell or Dave Aranda. The BIG12’s future could make coaches move.

    Probably will call Fickell too.

But Wilcox is the ultimate backup. He won’t leave Oregon if he gets hired. He might be the scariest hire as he won’t have a large salary and they can spend more money on the assistant coaches and big time coordinators. He doesn’t have the best record at Cal but give him top of the line assistants at a school who has a large recruiting budget and he’ll do well.

  15. I’ve heard he’s pretty unlikable, but I could see Alabama OC Bill O’Brien getting a look by the Ducks. He had some success with Penn State and the Texans and coaches who go to ‘Bama to rehab their reputation seem to end up landing on their feet. Plus, the Ducks like big names and he’s one of the few available. He might be holding out for another opportunity in the NFL though. Probably a long, long shot.

  16. I really enjoy Wilner’s reporting of the conference. Here are his 6 candidates he thinks makes the most sense. Note, he is NOT saying these are realistic, particularly Petersen.

    1. Harsin
    2. Chipster
    3. Sitake
    4. Petersen
    5. Tedford
    6. Wilcox

    • 4
      1

5 and 6 are the only realistic ones at all lol.

      1. Head coach at Auburn. He’s only leaving if he’s invited to leave by his AD.
      2. Chip isn’t going back to Oregon unless he’s unemployed.
      3. Lol. That dude is coach for life at his alma matar.
      4. LMAO!

      • 1
        1

I hear you, but I disagree on Chip. I think he is a realistic candidate:

        – only 1 year remaining on his contract
        – AD at UCLA didn’t hire him, will he give him a fatty extension?
        – Uncle Phil loves him, and Chip left on good terms

        • Does anyone here really think that the “Chipster” would have the same level of success the second time around at Oregon as he had the in the first? Sure, the ‘no huddle’ offense was unique, but pretty much everyone has their own version of it now and the defenses have been around it for awhile – so it isn’t really all that fresh. I didn’t even see UCLA play much of it when I caught a glimpse of them playing. I think he is a pretty pedestrian coach now that really doesn’t have that much more to offer over anyone else. Sure, they will probably hire Wilcox, but how long will he stay. I think the Duck program is snake-bit and not all that attractive. They can get all the 5 stars they want, but then it gets to be a **** measuring contest between them; it’s hard to keep those guys in line.

          • “ Does anyone here really think that the “Chipster” would have the same level of success the second time around at Oregon as he had the in the first? ”

No. The rules changed rendering his “blur” offense less effective.

I still don’t see him returning to Eugene. He hated recruiting and schmoozing boosters. Much easier to recruit in your own backyard in So Cal than Eugene.

It’s also tougher to replicate that success when you’re not allowed to pump your players full of horse steroids.

  17. 1
    1

They’d probably be pretty unbeatable with a scorched earth Nick Rolovich coaching there. But no way they will be able to sell him to their fans

    • Crisco really screwed them waiting so long to move on. If he had left at the end of the regular season there was way more potential candidates out there. Now the free agents are snatched up and the guys looking to move have done so it got huge contract extensions.

I don’t see them pulling any great candidates. Plenty of alright coaches who may do well with the resources at Oregon but I don’t see anyone out there to make them the Alabama of the west that they dream of being.

      • The Nike job just isn’t on the same level as USC, Oklahoma, etc. As a result, the available candidates won’t be either. They’re looking at a P5 coordinator, a G5 HC, or a P5 retread (like Tedford).

Alex Grinch is one guy I keep thinking about that could be a fit. He’s reportedly going to USC with Riley, but I’d think a P5 HC job could change his mind.

Maybe they’re planning to steal from their big brother in Corvallis and hire Lindgren :)

      • Unique offense, really good at rallying his players around him combine with recruitimg advantages of oregon and a grudge against the state of Washington and UW. Plus he already owns Jonathan Smith.

I dont like the guy, but I do think he’s a really good up and coming coach.

The timing couldn’t be better with singng day just around the corner. I expect several players to transfer and their recruiting class to take a major hit. .it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving program and their myopic fans!

    • They havent officially closed it down yet, and they haventade the Bowl games available yet, so it’s currently in limbo land.
Just looked at the results. Kiwi Beav had a 10 win final week and jumped into 1st place, passing up the long time top 2.
If things hold, Kiwi will be crowned the champion at a ceremony, date/time tbd.
Also, I’ll need your Venmo handle Kiwi, if youre reading this. You can DM the Beavrecruiting twitter account or email Beavrecruiting @ gmail

        • Major difference between Ohio state and Georgia…..oregon will have an entirely new coaching staff, QB, etc..so the comment that’s what they said about Ohio state is just laighable. Orton is going to struggle next year regardless of who the coaching staff is.

  19. If Beavs somehow landed Knaak and Ott this week, not only would it be awesome for the Beavs l, but would send a great message. Beavs just plugging along building a talented roster very quietly.

There’s one guy that Nike should have on their radar:
-Has extensive NFL, PAC-12 and Big 10 experience
-Never won a conference championship, but has come close multiple times
    -Considered a brilliant offensive mind
-Extensive west coast recruiting experience and local ties in Texas
-Connections throughout the college and pro ranks
    -Currently in between jobs

I’m calling it now…Mike Riley to Eugene!

  21. I just got done watching the Oregon State – Arizona game. Beavs actually looked decent in the first half and at the start of the second against a team that looks like one of the best in the country. Then they just let Arizona go hog wild on offense. They got blown out by Arizona at home last season even worse which I nearly forgot about after the Elite Eight run. Oregon State always seems to struggle with Arizona. I mean as bad as they have been this year, their biggest loss was by 15 points. But it looks like Arizona is doing this to everyone this year. Lucas appears to be snapping out of it and I liked what I saw from Rand and Taylor Jr. There is some upside to this team. Question is will we ever see it manifest itself in the win column.

It made me wonder what is so different this year. We have a lot of the players returning that were instrumental to our run. So I watched highlights from our Elite Eight run and the biggest thing that stood out to me was that guys were playing within themselves last year. This year it looks like guys are trying to do too much instead of just focusing on their strengths. We have a bunch of guys who look like they are putting pressure on themselves to be the guy. Warith should not be taking 14 shots a night. He should be focusing his efforts on defense and rebounding.

All that being said, I would not be surprised if we win single digit games this year. Absolutely poor basketball thus far and if Tinkle can’t get any momentum going this year, he is coaching for his job next year.

    • With ET gone, they needed Warith to improve his game to the point where he could be the guy. Warith needed to improve his game to get to the NBA. He obviously hasn’t.

They don’t need everyone to be the guy, but they need SOMEONE to be.

  22. Miami apparently paid $8M buyout for Diaz, $9M to buyout Cristobal @ UO, and $8M annually to Cristobal. That’s a lot for a coach with a built in cap of 2-3 losses.

    Some amusing reactions;
“Weird, usually moving from Oregon to Miami, you need to get past Utah along the way.”

“Last two coaches left…talk all you want about Phil knight, cool uniforms and facilities…something isn’t living up to expectations for these coaches in Eugene.”

I agree. I would much rather live with ANTIFA/BLM riots, crappy weather & tyrannical government vs palm trees, sunny skies, and warm beaches.

          Make sure to buy gold!!!!!

        • You guys are so right! Why would anybody want to look at tan, firm, barely-dressed individuals of the opposite sex-constantly? Throw in an anti-mask, anti-mandate governor and you have a recipe for a real disaster. On some other level, part of me thinks maybe there were other reasons why Mario bolted for Miami?

    • It’s kind of amazing, and interesting, that Tony Robbins syndrome still works. Might need younger people doing the hiring before that error stops. Until then, Mario and everyone off that Taggert tree will keep exploiting it to average, at best, results.

Oregon reminds me of Hugh Hefner and the Playboy empire and those Girls Next Door reality show girls. Got the old guy with deep pockets and the brand and then a bunch of hotties who play the part and sleep with the old guy just long enough to catipult their career. Next step, the old guy dies and everybody forgets about the brand.

It seems odd to have a donor co-sign a coach’s extension agreement. One donor. I mean obviously Knight is UO’s biggest and most important donor, but it’s becoming more and more apparent that he runs that place. That might be the single biggest problem for the Ducks and their coaching carousel. How many coaches want to have to answer to the AD AND a donor. Their coaches probably get calls from Knight during a game telling them what plays they need to run. Crazy shit going on down in Eugene, and they’ll need to change some things if they want a long-term coach.

    • Seems like barring wright leaving early like Nashom did, we “should” be fairly set at starting corners, and have some talented younger guys waiting. Plus added the Cooper as a jc corner. Safety same deal, got olandipo, Julian added Oliver and Arnold was playing pretty good to end the season. Than of course Grant occupying the nickel.

Just my opinion but I feel like secondary is pretty set for a while. Noble Thomas added last week could be a contributor sooner than later too.

I know a lot of fans feel like we missed an opportunity to win the conference this year. I still felt like we were a year away still, but that’s not the point. Can’t change that.

But 2022 will be where we find out who Smith really is. It’s going to be perhaps the best chance he’ll ever get at winning the conference. 2 of the top programs in your division are going through some turmoil. A 3rd if you count WSU. Possibly even a 4th if Wilcox moves on to Oregon or elsewhere. Stanford I think will be ok, but not ready to compete again next year. The nonconference schedule is looking favorable. I would have been very concerned about playing @ Fresno this season, but they’re losing their coach, QB and 20 or so seniors. It figures that in one of the biggest seasons in a long time for this program half of the stadium won’t be built, but whatever. Is there really a game on the schedule you look at and think we can’t win other than maybe @ Utah?

The players we’re losing definitely hurt a lot. Would be great if a couple of the juniors decided to come back. Maybe it’s just me wishing they would stay, but I’m not sure any of them are actually NFL ready. Grant is undersized, Roberts is slow. Baylor is the only one who could have a chance to make it. The losses on the O-line will hurt the most. That group was the reason we won multiple games this year.

We thought it was wide open this season, I imagine it’ll feel like that even more next year. We’ll see what happens to Oregon with potential transfers, but you have to imagine this whole saga sets them back at least a little bit.

While I never really liked the whole “We ain’t done yet” phrase, it was nice to see that Smith had that kinda attitude in him. He needs to bring more of that. He has to understand how big of an opportunity this is. You have stability while many of your most important foes do not. The Beavs will never be favored to win the North, but maybe they should be. If Smith can figure some things out in the offseason (DC, QB battle, replacing seniors, reducing gambles), this could be a big time season in 2022.

    • I think the chance of Smith changing his gambling habits are slim to none. He’s stated publicly that he’s following what his analytics say. So I’m pretty sure he’ll keep doing it. The only things that may change are the plays called in those situations and his team’s ability to execute on those decisions. So hopefully both of those improve.

      • Hopefully we do get that kid. Could be a really good one.

With signing day next week it sure has been quiet. I guess maybe there is only a couple spots to fill?

        • He’s a 2023 guy. Not really an urgent one at this moment, with signing day less than 2 weeks away for the 2022 class. But thought Dorman said he was committing mid December.

The class size depends some on what guys like Roberts/Kipper/Baylor/Wright end up doing. If they leave early, it helps add some space for 2022 scholarships. Not sure who else is in question. Remember last year, Isiah Dunn and Wright were late surprise draft entrants that we didnt expect. Could happen again

          • I am fairly sure the feeling is Robert’s, kipper, and Baylor are planning on moving on. Wright I think is the only one without a “lean” at this time. He needs to come back another year, he got beat too much and really fell off mid way this season

          • I think kipper is the only one that would be expected to go very high and I don’t think he would be any higher than the 4th round. Most of those guys you mentioned are good college players but don’t have the measurables to get drafted high in the NFL. Baylor and Roberts are too slow and the NFL loves 40 times. Wright has measurables but is a big project at this point and didn’t play as well as his brother did. Kipper has the size and athleticism but he allows way too much pressure too often.

          • I’d like to see weight play with a better defensive unit. Hopefully that’ll happen next year. The secondary had to chase players around the field a long time. Yes, he got beat on some plays and that’s on him so room for improvement.

  25. Was just spending some time looking at recruiting rankings etc…. Had a quick question for anyone in the know.

Why does it appear that the overall number of recruits per school is so low in the pac12? Is this because the covid year and so many “seniors” either left last year like Hamilcar? Than combine that with the ones that decided to come back, so every school has a very limited available number? That’s my guess. Sure seems like there is a really low number in the pac12 overall compared to “normal”. Leads me to feel like schools should be getting very high level players with such a limited amount of kids overall being recruited

    • I think the extra covid year, plus teams are taking transfers more than before, since the sitting period gets waived so frequently

  26. I see three decommits so far for the Ducks. This could become a rampage. They lost a defensive tackle, linebacker, and qb. All 4 or 5 stars.

  27. Commits are starting to abandon ship at Oregon now. A 4 star LB and there 5 star OT who I could have sworn said he was 100% for oregon about 2 or 3 days ago.

        • Agreed if they can’t pull off a USC type hire they probably won’t stay at the level they’ve been. They had a good run when chip had the revolutionary offense but now teams have caught up with that and rules have changed. Cristobal was a good recruiter but they were still losing at least 3 games a year. The pac was bad this year and they couldn’t even win the pac.

          • 4
            3

I disagree. They’ll have a temporary dip but those facilities and Nike brand will attract a top notch coach and recruits. They are stacked with talent that is yet to peak.

        • Seems unlikely. Most amazing hires are already locked up.

I just hope they aren’t smart and hire Les Miles or Ed Ogeron. You know, proven good coaches.

  28. Heard today Oregon has had to replace a coordinator each of the last 7 years. They also talked about how some of these coaches recently bought houses in the Eugene area since they are newer on staff and now they may not have a job. Said there was turmoil within the staff especially near the end.

  29. Just read hole named their receivers coach in interim HC. Young guy that’s in his 2nd year on the staff, and not one of the “associate head coaches” on the staff.

Not sure what that says about the more senior assistants, maybe most of them are leaving with Crisco.

    • 7
      1

Sure seems like programs like to go with the black interim coach to keep the receuiting class together, after the white coach gets fired or takes another job. Only to hire another white coach after the season is over and cut the black coach loose.
Except WSU, they skipped the black interim coach step.

Would be nice if Smith could get either Joe Salavea or Vic So’oto to coach DL for OSU. Probably a pipe dream though with our budget and their likely going rate

      • When Suiaunoa was first announced to staff, I spent a little time looking at each of the staff’s recruiting history.

When he was in Hawaii, it seemed he regularly lost [typically Pacific Islander] recruits to DL coaches like Salavea etc at West Coast unis. So, I didn’t have high expectations over who he might be able to successfully bring in.

Of the staff that were Montana/University of Hawaii, I’ve been more pleased with Kefense Hynson in terms of recruiting; he has been pretty active at least in going after quality players even if success is not high — and broadly, WR is one of the units that looks better and has shown production since he has arrived.

    • I’ve said he should be a dark horse for the DC position. He’s probably not far away from getting a shot somewhere, knows the pac, great recruiter, coaches weakest position on defense. Has a lot of potential but without prior experience is definitely somewhat of a risk.

Those 2trains likely went in different directions once the “fire Helf” train left the station. We no longer have the right 2expect “loyalty” from any coach we hire. We’re bringing them in 2do a job and (w/i the framework of their contract) they can come and go as they please

      • No idea if he’s a good dude or not… he sat in first class and I was in the cheap seats. He’s my favorite because we beat his team to go to fiesta bowl:-)

    • 5 picks has a valid point. They shit canned that entire staff that had been there forever and hired slimy ass Willie, 2 years after going to the national championship game. Pretty much shit in the loyalty well at that point.

      • 2
        1

That’s funny because that was my exact same thoughts I wrote in a post up above this morning…..

“you can’t bitch about someone not being loyal when your own loyalty leash is short.”

Which is what I meant. They showed zero loyalty to a staff that had mostly been there a long time (Helfrich).

And we all know that if Chip Kelly does return to Eugene and can’t replicate his results? They will turn on him fast.

Loyalty and UO do not belong in the same book.

Win at all costs. All that matters to them.

And we also know the one individual that calls the shots. What really great coach wants to put up with that bullshit?

  32. The Joe Moore award in the twitter feed has some great highlights of the OLine really playing as one unit, pretty cool examples. Check it out.

  33. I had an exchange on FB with a duck fan before the pac12 championship game. He made a comment that stated, duck fans demand the ducks beat Utah and I had to call him out on that bc it was such a myopic comment that I couldn’t resist. Of course, after the game he went silent. I guess he should have made a stronger demand. Maybe those were the type of fans that Mario called out several weeks back about not booing the ducks at home. I’m guessing Mario knew how unrealistic and myopic the duck fans are and that could have been part of the reason for bolting…i guess that’s why duck fans were voted the worst fans in the conference a few years ago. I suppose Duck fans demand that they lure Nick Saban away from the Tide too…

    • I doubt Miami fans are any better. Particularly alumni. A large part of Oregon’s fans aren’t even alumni, they gravitate to the “cool Nike Ducks.”

With Knight their effective owner (as evidenced by his co-signing the contract extension to Cristobal-who presumably would be a state employee? WTF?) and the naked corporate tie, the Ducks are Oregon’s pro football team – alumni status not needed for demanding, vicarious fandom.

  34. I didn’t listen to it and probably won’t but I see that Cristobal did an interview on Canzano’s radio show yesterday afternoon, an “exit interview” Canzano called it. Honestly that’s pretty classy that he did that, usually when people bail the fanbase never hears from the coach again.

    • He probably got the idea after the disastrous “exit interview” texts that GA sent him and thought “this is a gold mine!”

      • He was on sports radio last night as a fill in host for back to back to back shows. The entire time doing damage control and talking about what oregon needs to next and who to hire an blah blah blah.
He was on the air from 3 till at least 8, and super amped up the whole time. I swear he snorts coke before talking about recruiting

      • The only reason Fickell has to leave is an absolutely massive contract offer or he doesn’t want to have to go undefeated to get in the CFP. That said its easy AF to go undefeated in the AAC vs going 11-2 or 12-1 in the P12.

          • Chadwell is really impressive. He took Charleston Southern, a program with basically no resources and no tradition, to the FCS playoffs multiple times when he was there.

He’s also a Carolina lifer, so his success may not translate to the other side of the country.

    • Sitake’s done really well at BYU. He’s a better HC than DC, but they’re different skill sets in a lot of ways. Being a HC can be like being a CEO where you get the right people around you to make decisions and you just worry about higher level/organizational stuff.

I could see him being successful at Nike. We should all consider it a victory for OSU if part of the Gary Andersen Coaching Tree ends up as their HC. That’s like one level below Danny Langsdorf becoming their HC. Maybe Sitake could bring Gary back as a consultant!

      • 1
        1

I think he’s done well at byu because of it’s inherent advantages. Mission guys end up being 24-25 year old seniors. Won’t get that at Oregon.

      • I dont see how he leaves BYU. That was his dream job and now he has it. And could be in that role for another 2 decades if he wants to be, they love him.
At an oregon, he’d get about 3-4 years and be looking for another job for not winning enough.
Add to that, BYU has all of their walkons tuition covered by an NLI deal, so his class will go beyond the normal 85 scholarship limit every year because the fringe commitments will choose BYU over other PWO opportunities. He has everything he needs where he is

  35. 18

Waiting to read the reports that Mario’s mom has made a miracle recovery and is seen driving around Miami in her brand new Lambo with the Miami Vice theme song blasting

    • All their recent coaches have not gone onto greener pastures. All fired at their next gig within a few years.

Helfrich landed with the bears and got fired after 2 seasons. Hasn’t worked since. Looking back, it seems he rode the coattails of Kelly.

Kelly had one good year with the eagles before things turned sour. Fired again by the 49ers and on the hot seat at UCLA.

Taggart – disaster at fsu from day one. Although it does seem it’s systemic as the new coach hasn’t fared any better.

Cristobal – going to a school where he’ll need to do a lot of heavy lifting. Doesn’t have the resources that Oregon does. He’ll get a longer leash being an alumnus.

    • What’s the chances looking like with him?

Seems like this close to signing day, they’d be good. Unless he’s choosing to sign later.

      • I think they’re good, unless an Oregon gets a new coach and still needs a RB at the last minute.

I think if OSU has a chance to sign the 16th rated (Rivals) player at any position, they have to do it, regardless of depth chart. Let the cream rise to the top.

    • If we really do bring him in, our RB depth is going to be crazy. Lindgren’s going to need to keep up the creativity and figure out how to get all these guys on the field:
      Baylor
      Lowe
      Collins
      Martinez
      Ott
      Fenwick
Newell (seems like the obvious odd man out)

      • There definitely a waiting period with Baylor, Fenwick and Lowe locking it down for the next 2 years. Newell and Collins should both be redshirt frosh next year.

        • 1
          2

I don’t think Fenwick or Lowe can take their spots for granted. Maybe Fenwick because he’s the only big short-yardage back of the group, but Lowe has quite a few similar backs in the room with him.

          • 3
            1

Fenwick didn’t impressive me a ton. Plus, if we need short yardage next year, we give it to Jackhammer!

I do wonder about Damir Collins. Trey Lowe will be situational, unless he shows more skill between the tackles. If we run it 45+ times a game like we could/should, plenty of carries to go around.

  36. Poor Levengood and Brewer are the only OL who didn’t get All-conference because they split the season at RG.

Loecher got screwed out of being All-conference, probably due to his low number of attempts.

    He led the conference in:
    -Lowest % of punts returned
    -Highest % of punts downed
    -Longest net punt average
-Highest % of punts inside the 20

  37. 3
    2

Beavs lead the league in all conference honors with 17 total.

3 first team, 1 second team and 13 honorable mention.

That sounds about right for first and second teams for how the season went. Nice to see other coaches recognizing other players and shows the team does have depth.

Colletto seemed like a runaway winner for all purpose/special teams but can’t complain that much. There’s not exactly an award for what he does at the conference level.

  38. Anyone listening to conzano? I typically don’t but wondering what he would say about coaching search down south. Currently talking about KT, said only folks hyping him as the number one pick is ESPN. Said if he wasn’t a top recruit, he wouldn’t be a first round pick. Coordinators in the conference supported this. Glad he isn’t sugar coating it. I didn’t know players could have phones on the sidelines. Evidentially, KT used his phone during a game on the sideline.

      • Exactly. If he would have been the say 350th best player instead of near the top, he wouldn’t be getting the hype to be a top overall pick. Basically he hasn’t lived up to expectations. Conzano was really harping on his attitude. Said the NIL was a big distraction for him.

    • The film doesn’t lie so we’ll see what NFL teams think. His stats sure didn’t scream 1st round pick. He didn’t take over games but opponents did account for him so he’ll get some credit there.

      • Seriously. We’d be in the Rose Bowl if we had someone that could rush the passer like him.

I think the reason ESPN gushed over him so much was they wanted to hype Nike, but they didn’t really have any other big-time players.

        • Definitely overhyped. Sports media always makes superstars that appear to flame out when really they just weren’t that great. How many times have we seen big time names on big teams completely flame out in the NFL. The list of superstar high draft QBs that didnt even start for 3 seasons is endless. Even when they have decent careers they look like shit cause expectations are crazy.

KT is a great rusher but not the best in the country. He’s also not the best player in their defense.

  39. I keep getting these annoying russian bots signing up for the blog, and I keep having to IP block them. If you get blocked or have to answer the spam question, it could be from that. Just fill out the form (politely!), and I’ll get to it and approve you ASAP.

    • It’ll probably be after the bowl game when the players do their exit interviews. I’d guess there will be several transfers. Just seems like the new normal.

Recruiting though can indicate who will transfer or leaving. If they are trying to take another RB, that could mean Baylor may not be returning.

      • Objectively, Baylor should take his shot at the NFL. I don’t think another great season in the P12 bumps up his draft stock. Jermar Jefferson was a 7th rounder ffs.

Not saying I want him to go, but as a RB, I feel like he should take his opportunity while he can.

        • 3
          1

Exactly. After being first-team all-conference, there isn’t much left for him to prove. He could improve his blocking and receiving, but at this point he should probably take the JJ route.

        • Agree the only way his stock gets higher is if he develops more physically by getting bigger, stronger, faster but there probably isn’t much room there. He can do all that preparing for the combine. Noy sure how deep at RB this draft is but that could be a factor too. The NFL wants fast RBs so a lot of where they are drafted is dependent on their 40 times.

  40. 2

I could care less about the Ducks except when we’re playing them and when their success or lack thereof impacts the Beavs. MC leaving for Miami is good and bad for Beavs. Overall, the amount of turnover in last 5 years at UO is good for the Beavs in state recruiting. It also hurts the Ducks brand which is also good for Beavs in that it leaves a void or crack that can be filled by Oregon State. In the short term, MC leaving also has a significant impact on this year’s recruiting class which will increase the Beavs chance to beat Ducks in future. All that said, I don’t think MC is a great coach and I think they can do better which scares me. Chip Kelly was the perfect fit and even though defenses have adjusted to his offense and the game has changed, CK returning has a very high ceiling for success. I also wonder how much USC and UW benefit with MC leaving. I’d expect some of the top Duck recruits in this year’s class to end up at USC and or UW. The rise of UW (which I expect with Deboer) and USC is not good for Beavs and MC leaving Oregon helps those schools as much or more than Beavs in short term. In the long term, I don’t expect the lose of MC to significantly impact Ducks ability to win

    • 5
      1

Chip’s previous success was unique to a particular moment in time. He’s still a good coach, but without the advantage of being innovative, the chances he gets back to the CFP are slim.

    • Ya chip will never have the same success as he did when he could to advantage of the old rules. He was successful because they ran such a fast tempo and didn’t let the defense substitute. Without those advantages his offense isn’t anything spectacular. He hates recruiting and can’t develop QBs which will put a cap on him wherever he goes. I wouldn’t really be afraid of him a 2nd time around. He’s no longer the best offensive mind around. Lindgren ran a more potent offense with less talent and a 3rd string QB.

Maybe a little early to talk about the LA Bowl but a recent piece in the GT got me thinking about momentum.
Utah St has gone 7-0 on the road this season, Beavs…1-5.
Over the last 6 games the Beavs are 3-3, Utah St….. 5-1.
I hope Smith can keep his guys from taking this game too lightly!

    • I hope “WE AIN’T DONE YET!” hasn’t turned into “Ain’t we done yet?” If the Beavers can come out flat and fall to Colorado, they can lose to Utah State.
      From OLive on Sunday:
“Because of the Dec. 18 game, an emphasis on recruiting visits and this being final weeks at OSU, the Beavers probably won’t begin bowl practices until late this week.

      Smith didn’t seem concerned.

“We’re going to take advantage of what we can,” Smith said.”

Are most people here thinking of watching it? The 4:30 start time on a Saturday is pretty convenient.

      • In large part, yes.

Away from home is away from home, only difference’s I can see is if there is a real home crowd advantage or a big difference in altitude/climate. Seems for most bowl games the crowd is fairly even and the altitude is the same for both teams. Although I suppose you could argue that the opponent also travels, so there’s that.

Anyway, Smith needs to manage the mentality of a team that has lost nearly every time they’ve left Corvallis. A fast start on the scoreboard would really put those fears to rest.

  42. Sat in for part of a Brayden Dorman live video interview on instagram just now.
    Cliff notes:
-Really polished kid, interview wise. Confident, smart, sounds like a leader.
-Says he has a bunch of teams talking to him, including Clemson and Ohio State. But it’s the teams that put in the time to build a relationship that he gravitates towards.
-OSU/Colorado/Idaho/Kansas are among those teams, whereas other teams are more casual at this point.
-Has a top 3 but isnt ready to announce it till January.
    – Plans to commit around late Jan to Mid-Feb
-Was wearing an OSU hat during the interview.
-My inpression is OSU is still the leader, but with so much time to go, it will take alot of effort to keep this kid. He seems worth the extra effort though.

    • 3
      1

I would love to see this offense with a QB that can stretch the field. So far we’ve only seen it with average overall QBs. Nolan and Gebbia don’t have very strong arms. Luton had good arm strength but none of them could throw the deep ball with any level of consistency. If you could pair the big play deep ball with the run game they’ve had since Smith has been here the offense would be very dangerous.

  43. Bill pointed out the following above:

“All their recent coaches have not gone onto greener pastures.

He’ll get a longer leash being an alumnus.”

Its also true that OSU coaches fared poorly after leaving, even looking recently at Riley (NFL San Diego, Nebraska) and Andersen.

Maybe the schools and the coaches would benefit from more patience. But for the coaches, there’s a shelf life for getting the big contract and a chance at winning more on the field. I think Kelly thought in the NFL, where seeding is decided on the field, he could win it all, but it seemed he really managed that roster poorly at philadelphia. Cristo probably thinks he can get to that 11-1 season in Miami, and get into the playoffs, something he couldn’t do in Eugene.

  44. Deruyter, toilet seat DC, being hired in the same role at Texas Tech.

I noticed some ‘uck players on Twitter clamoring for their interim coach to be the next HC. It won’t happen, but the players did the same thing for Cristobal and Mullen made it happen.

I wish we had some more information on who our next DC will be. If it was Bray, wouldn’t it already be announced by now? Is Niner just focused on signing day and the bowl game?

    • Seems like they’re trying to get someone else, but haven’t had any luck yet. If Bray was a lock, they would have announced already and tried to solidify the staff for recruiting and team morale.

That doesn’t mean Bray won’t end up with the job eventually, though. Maybe we shutout USU in the bowl (lol). Maybe we just don’t land whoever else JS wants.

      • 1
        3

I would lend to think Bronco Mendenhall will be our next DC since he recently resigned, but did not retire and wanted to take some time to spend with his wife. By having Bray as our interim and entering the off season when players hit the weight room and a dead period, it would allow Bronco that time to sit back and relax and move when he is ready., but that’s just me. He has history with Oregon State and was brought up as a candidate for the Oregon state head coaching job before Smith was hired.

        • Mendenhall has been a HC for a long time and could get another job right now with one phone call. No chance he comes to OSU as a coordinator.

If I recall correctly he was already at Virginia when JS was hired, there was mutual interest when Anderpants was hired. It goes without saying that this program would be in a very different spot had they hired him then.

          • 2
            1

I wouldn’t say there’s “no chance” of him becoming a coordinator. You have to look at the reason why he resigned – he is burned out and wants more time.

I mentioned in a previous thread, but Rocky long went through the same thing. He resigned as head coach at San Diego State and took a defensive coordinator position. It’s a lot less work and stress to work as a coordinator than as a head coach.

Is it likely he is our DC? No. But it is certainly a possibility. Bronco is an avid rancher, and I can think of worse places for him to end up than Corvallis.

          • Bronco Mendenhall is also still going to coach Virginia’s Bowl Game. So its possible that he won’t be in discussion of taking another role until after the bowl season. Virginia plays SMU on 12/29. Its rare that a coach who resigns, but still coaches a bowl game. Something tells me he has another job lined up, but isn’t making it official until 2022.

    • Seems like now is the time to make a move on Salavea and/or Heyward. Get some real recruiters in there and spend some of that new assistant $$.

      • I’ve been saying Salavea for awhile. He’s going to get a chance eventually but doesn’t have any experience so he’s risky. But like you said he’s a great recruiter and coaches our weakest position. I think Smith would be smart to interview him. Heyward is a great recruiter but I think I’ve heard he’s not a great coach but don’t know if that’s true. Being a DC is a lot different than being a position coach tho so if it is true it doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be a good coordinator.

  45. Clemson OC Tony Elliott and Texas A&M DC Mike Elko have emerged among “a final handful of candidates” as the favorites to become the next Duke coach, per a
    @newsobserver report:

  46. Theory on Lindgren’s passing game this season. Is it entirely possible they used Sam Noyer and Chance Nolan as a recruiting point for future quarterbacks? By having Chance Nolan air the ball out, knowing full well it will be a 50/50 on whether the pass play will work or not, was to be able to show recruits we aren’t an 80/20 run team? If we had run the ball more, yes, we would have most likely won more games, but we also wouldn’t be able to show recruits we need a solid passing QB. It’s a building process rather than a let’s win with what we have now and also try to recruit. Showing recruits what you need is far more important than trying to tell them, “ya, we don’t have a passing QB, so we went to primarily a run first, pass rarely offense.

    • Eh no. They passed the ball bc they thought Nolan could step up and be a good passer.

Smith needs to land a good QB in the next cycle. Dorman would be a great start.

Or land one via the transfer portal if he doesn’t. There are some pretty good ones out there that fit Smith’s system. LSUs QB fits and he brings along his brother a top TE. But they’ll likely stay east.

Two assistants for the ducks…..pooof…..gone and mire to follow. It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving group of classless fans. I hope they lost all their commits and go into the tank. It’s time for the beavers to step up to the plate and show them how it’s done!

  48. Slow news so speculation is going to run wild on the next ducks coach.

I think it’s pretty obvious that Wilcox is going to be the guy. Checks the one box they want. Loyalty.

    • You have a good point with Wilcox. But lets never under estimate the Zeros ability to believe the are a destination school for any and all coaches to consider. And because of his money that thought process starts with Mr. Nike himself.

      • Oh yeah. Nemec had a post the other day saying they are like Oklahoma, notre dame, etc so they need to act like it. Said they are a top-12 school and Sitake won during a Covid year and beat up on a down Pac-12 conference. Funny, he never referred to the conference as being down when they were winning conference championships and recruiting well.

      • They can believe that all they want. If they are willing to go to 8-9 million per year, then yeah they could land a big fish.

Last time out, all they could land was Taggart.

    • I don’t think the ducks care about loyalty as much as getting a big name and continuing to believe they are an elite program. I’m sure they’re are tired of losing their coaches but Wilcox isn’t a very impressive hire at all. Smith has had a pretty good record against him considering where the program was when he got here.

A fun thought to think about,

Haener hasn’t transferred to UW yet. He’s clearly going to. But what if he doesn’t?

OSU would be a dark horse in this race. Smith was his primary recruiter at UW and coached him during his redshirt year. Fun thought, that’s it.

      • He wasn’t going to be eligible due to prior transfers.

Sucks we have to play him, they will be depleted and under a new staff but he makes them way more dangerous.

        • Definitely some perks. We should be in position to beat a Fresno next year even on the road with their attrition. I imagine Fresno makes a great place for transfer portal kids to land. I’m sure they will fill some spots that way this off-season.

Curious how boise looks for next year too. Little bit ahead of myself as next week we have 1 more to go, but Im pretty excited to see what Jonathan smith and staff can do next season already

          • They are losing 14 of 26 from their 2 deeps. They were 6th in the MWC this year with a 7-5 record under their new head coach. They do have one of their best recruiting classes since Peterson left but still significantly worse than ours under Smith. I would classify them as rebuilding with unproven potential. The players definitely love the HC.

    • Would have been weird if he transferred back to UW. I would have a hard time rooting for a player that transferred from OSU and then transferred back later in his career.

I like how all day the narrative about the whole UofO coach search has been “you’re not hearing amy solid info, which is a good thing. Means oregon is operating in silence and ready to make a splash”

    Then later in the day:
    “Oregon talked with Kalani Sitaki”
“Oregon has asked for permission to talk with Justin Wilcox”
“Oregon has at least 2 other candidates to talk to, at least one is currently in the NFL”

What this all means is despite knowing there was a decent chance for weeks they could lose Cristobal, they did nothing to prepare for it and are now scrambling to find a coach.

    • 3
      1

Because they fully expected the fraudster to just roll over like a good little lap dog when presented with a contract extension for that much $.

What’s funny is he took LESS money than I hat Oregon offered to go home.

        2

Also fumny because everybody could see this coming the moment they fired their AD in mid November. It wasnt some big secret that that was the first domino.
Even Oregon had and idea and started working on that contract section weeks before the Utah game.
But they didnt think they could lose a bidding war to Miami.
The “I’ve gotta go see my mom” emergency flight to Miami should have been the sign that this guy isnt staying on the west coast for any amount, but he’ll gladly play you to bid up his new deal.

Ha, and they think theyre getting Urban Meyer.
I might just need to make a meme of Phil Knight giving him a lapdance at the bar.

    • Great line from the link here: ‘USC is a big school, one of the biggest in the nation, yet somehow they made Riley’s introduction look like it was filmed in the conference room of a Ramada Inn at 2 p.m. on a Wednesday afternoon in order to get a reduced rate.’

  52. RE: Kiffin, Autzen Zoo moron offers following:

“Some of my favorite options include Chip Kelly, Dave Aranda, Luke Fickell, and Chris Petersen. Adding Kiffin to that list, I think those are five guys you absolutely cannot go wrong with.

If the Ducks make a serious offer and are able to steal him from Ole Miss, you better believe college football’s coaching carousel will be a warzone.”

Oooh, a “steal” creates a “warzone!” Kiffin is another cheezball that fits UO.

Jonathan Smith needs to get Lake or better DC, tone down the stupid analytic-driven calls, and take advantage of the PAC instability in the next two years.

  53. Apparently Moorehead is going to stay back and coach the bowl game for hole. Nothing happening Akron that time of year anyway, might as well. It’ll be interesting to see if there are any personnel or scheme changes without meathead there.

    • Interesting, hadn’t they named a younger DB coach for the bowl?
Defense could be rudderlless and who knows how Moorhead will call the game. Maybe put in back up QB as the fans there have wanted?

How will Vegas size this up? Quack now 4 pt dogs to Okie.
FWIW, Beavs now favored by 7, down from 9 at the open.

Maybe some would disagree but losing Fenwick to me is no huge loss. His best runs were through holes the offensive line made so big that I, a late 50’s fat white man could have gained 10 yards on. He seemed to go down a lot with initial contact. Baylor was much better breaking through tackles yet was not utilized as much for short yardage. But when you have a Jackhammer I can see why you’d use it. With the changes in the O-line because seniors are leaving I would love to have another Quiz or Jefferson in the backfield who could make something out of nothing or totally burst through holes given.

  54. Ducks lose another recruit. Kid from in state, Emar’rion Winston that is a DE. Doesn’t show we ever offered him. Any interest you’ve heard of NB?

  55. Latest rumor flying around is Nike asked for permission to hire Wilcox. Could be a decent hire with the right OC, but not really the splashy hire they were hoping for. Back to reality…

  56. Oregon’s 2022 recruiting class now stands at nine total decommitments in this cycle, and five of them have come since Mario Cristobal’s departure. Five-star Kelvin Banks, four-star TJ Dudley, four-star Tanner Bailey, and three-star Cameron Williams are other prospects to have decommitted from Oregon after Cristobal left for Miami. Oregon’s recruiting class now stands 15th in the country and second among Pac-12 programs.

    Back to our class,

Didn’t realize that Olsen is a legacy recruit. Dad played baseball at OSU. Maybe coach M can sell him on all the all conference honors the line picked up. Always take another good lineman when you can.

    • Gotta think if the coach’s still want him that he would be interested. Will be interesting to see if they decide they’re good already or adding him is worth it. That is if WSU and the previous oline coach from usc don’t chase after the kid now. Always nice knowing we have 4 kids already for that position so in theory we should be fine and adding anyone is someone the coaches must really like

    • We were favorites to land him up until USC offered. But now that the USC offer is gone and their Ol coach has moved to WSU, it’s up in their if he’ll end up at WSU or somewhere else.
He’s also getting alot of new attention now with his decommit from USC. Too bad they offered in the first place.

  58. 2
    2

Baldie reporting that UCLA has been contacted by the toilet seats, asking permission to speak with the chipster.

Nemec throwing a Twitter temper tantrum.

  59. Who are the remaining targets for the class?
Ott? Olsen? Anyone left to visit? Any potential flips either way?

Any idea how many they are taking in this class? Feels like the floor of this class is much higher than previous classes.

  60. I wonder if the beavs are looking at Dominic Montiel from Marshfield. 6’2″ 190 lbs 4.0 GPA just voted POY in Oregon…he put up video.game type stats 3,600 yards and 50 tds leading marshfield to a state title. I’ve seen his highlights and the kid can fling the ball and is one heck of a scrambler and he’s graduating.this year.

  61. USC down to 4 commits. NIL can’t come fast enough,
That feels real dangerous for flips.

8 players in transfer portal since late Nov.

  62. OSU’s Oline is 1 of 4 finalists for the Joe Moore award for the best offensive line in the nation. What are the chances of losing coach M? He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to chase money or bigger jobs but he’s clearly great and could make more money elsewhere. It would be a huge hit if he left. We don’t get the best Oline talent and I think he gets the most out of his players. I think we’re starting to see the Oline talent increase especially in this cycle.

    • Already been talked about but coach M isn’t leaving. He came here for Smith. Won’t be leaving unless someone offers him $1M plus as a line coach.

    • UCLA maybe can’t do better at this point right, no big name hires available? So keep Kelly and recruits. Sitake can use this to get more $$$ out if BYU…Wilcox? Can he handle expectations of 11 win seasons?

Saw Tavita Lose tweeted out a random message a few minutes ago.
It was several “!!!!!!” accompanied by a short video of the Bombs Away Cafe sign.
Odd, but he’s been known to post cryptic measages just prior to something newsworthy

  64. Right as I was about to come in here with a gut feeling about Lane flipping to OSU he posts another AZ home visit. Kinda looking like he’s really interested still but idk

Angry the reply buttons and thumb up and down aren’t working for me. It’s not happening on any other platform, it must be on your end. Just a heads up.

    • Love the post below it:

“If the name I am hearing for the Oregon job is true, us Ducks will be over the moon. Talking we will send Mario thank you cards for leaving us. Trying not to get my hopes up but it’s a credible source.”

Has the ol’ Duck “we didn’t want him anymore anyway” vibe…

    • Clown is really pushing the “I have inside sources at Oregon” line of bullshit during this debacle. You’d have to have less sense than Anderpants to talk to that fucking clownshoe about anything.

  66. NiceBeav – safe to assume the coaches are focused on visiting current commits and preventing any last minute flips? Have they visited anyone not committed they are making a push for? Any on campus visits this weekend?

    Thanks in advance!

  67. Caught some 1080 the fan today. Now Nemec is saying that all the players the ducks have lost so far, they were all overrated and nobody else wants them. So it’s not a loss. Only the tackle from Texas is good……. That’s after saying thibodeaux isn’t going to be a good pro, and Mario is a bad x-o coach so it’s not a big loss.

The best part is that’s after promoting thibodeaux for heisman all year, and saying how high their recruiting class is and how talented they are.

But you know once a coach is signed it’s back to every player the new coach will bring in is going to be the next Randy moss. Qb downside will be Aaron Rodgers upside Tom Brady. Guy is an absolute disgrace for the city, and the radio station

    • It’s crazy seeing how rivals and espn ratings hit Oregon State vs Oregon recruits too. I generally trust the straight 247 evaluations the most. Look at the 2023 players though. Both tight ends are rated as 88 by 247 but with the combined you get .845 and .857.

Look at duck players and they are consistently rated higher than 247, sometimes as much as .03 higher. Sure is easy to get top recruiting classes when ESPN blows up every recruit.

      • My son’s high school has 3 kids rated as 3* recruits but none of them have any offers. Another is a 2* and have several offers. Another is a 5* kicker/4* punter and has offers. The 2* is a stud but doesn’t play 7v7 and doesn’t have any promotional videos but will likely become a 3* as soon as he gets more offers depending on who offers. The ratings are a total sham. The ability of a coaching staff to evaluate talent especially for programs like Oregon State is so much more important that whether or not a recruit has a high rating.

    • So Nemec is basically saying Cristobal was a bad recruiter because he recruited overrated players who nobody wants. So now he’s a bad recruiter and a bad Xs and Os guy. This shit is so predictable.

      • 9
        2

I think what’s going on is Nemec had Cristobal constantly in his ear, trying to influence the message that was being presented while he was at oregon. Nemec even alluded to this on the radio.

So tell the oregonian guy to puff up any oregon recruiting news and do the same with the 247/Rivals counterparts. Get them to embellish the stories and keep the messaging spread out and constant to show your program is dominating in recruiting. It benefits a team to keep those player rankings and class rankings as high as possible to give off the appearance your school is a sexy destination.

And Nemec benefits by getting insider info and getting extra readers because people eat that shit up. Nemec feels important and like Cristobal is his buddy.

But then, one day Cristobal stops returning phone calls. Nemec is sad. His boyfriend no longer wants to talk to hi. Turns out he was cheating on Nemec with some South Beach reporter dude in a thong.
        Time for the revenge cycle.
        “Cristobal wasn’t very good anyway.”

Just wait till Nemec starts a relationship with the next coach. Guarantee he’ll go above and beyond to make up for those bad feelings.

        At least that’s how I see it…

  68. I’d really like to see the staff push hard for Emar’rion Winston. I watched his senior highlights and some things really stand out. First is he’s very strong, he often sets the edge and brings down the running back with 1 arm as they try to run past. Second is he is very disciplined on his assignments. He plays great outside technique to set the edge. When he is on the inside he makes sure to read the blocks and attack the ball carrier not just running into the back field. He also is very away of how he can affect the game even if he isn’t getting direct pressure. In the highlights he had 2 batted balls and I only watched half of it.

He’s one of those players that makes the whole defense better by being very aware of the situation on the field and focusing on his assignments first.

If there is even a chance that he wants to stay home and close to family we need to push hard. He has no offers besides Oregon right now and he would definitely be a solid rotation player at he very least. High ceiling low floor.

Crapzano wrote an article today re ducks coaching search and keep in mind it’s two days after I asked the same question, “when was the last time the ducks hired a big splashy name for a FB coach?” Presto, Crapzano posed the very same question today using the phrase big splashy name and went into a little more detail. So it would appear that clownzano reads AB to get some of his own inspiration. Who knew the guy is not smart enough to come up with his own angles for his own storyline on the ducks search? LOL

  70. So far, Oregon has experienced eight decommitments this week, but the Ducks are also dealing with continued uncertainty at the head coaching position, which has caused other commits to indicate they won’t be signing during the early signing period.

Was reading through the recent Nick Daschel mailbag.
I swear, the whole piece is mostly non-answers and/or smart ass responses to the reader questions. Why does he bother with these?

    • 1
      1

The Snark/smart ass tone from him is really grating. He thinks he’s the smartest guy around, or at least that is how he presents.

Seriously though, since when was it okay for the beat writer to be so condescending to their readers? I get it if some reader is being an asshole, but the Mail bag is a completely different animal. For the mailbag, pick the questions that you think are relevant and give your best answer.

    • Spot on! I just wasted three minutes I can never get back reading that useless article. Have you listened to “Beaver Banter”….a la Angry, he has a punchable voice!

  72. UCLA bruins report says UO intends to hire chip Kelly.

Could be interesting, but I don’t see him returning to his prior win ceiling. Also, can just imagine all the bullshit at a press conference – from both UO and Chip.

    • UCLA doesn’t seem to dad for chip to move on. I think his buyout goes away after January 15th. So the ducks wait to officially hire him and miss out on salvaging recruits or so they pony up?

  73. 2

Just had a customer approach the counter on her phone (man I hate that), speaking in hushed tones she was talking about people being interviewed, said ‘kalani didn’t interview well.’ Hmm…What kind of cryptic shit is that? Someone out throwing rumors around town to get people off the mark?

    • 2
      4

Working that In and Out counter has got to be tough. Stick it out and the manger will promote you to the french fry maker. Better gig. No customer contact. Stay a few years and you just might become the assistant manager with a cool headset.

  74. As we head into the last weekend before signing day, I’ve heard there are no visits this week, but the team is “hoping for some fireworks”.

Sorry for the vague message, but just letting you know the postential is there for some new additions this week. And of course those fireworks may never happen, so we’ll just have to let things play out. Crossing fingers for a productive stretch run through signing day next week.

      2

But then this from the Oregonian duck beat writer(JamesCrepae)

“UO source says Oregon has NOT offered nor has the job been accepted by Dan Lanning or anyone else. Georgia DC is a candidate, but is NOT hired. At least not yet.”

They really dont have their shit together, haha.

    • That’s out of left field for sure. Risky hire if it does go through. Probably doing background checks as fast as they can. He was rumored to be the running for the OU job.

Never been a head coach at any level.

The big question will be how much of Georgia’s defense does he get credit for. They are really really good. How much is coaching and how much is talent? Also for Oregon, is that the best they can do?

      • Lanning was a finalist for Kansas before Leipold got the job.

Somewhat inexperienced as a DC, but he has strong “coaching lineage.”

        • Yeah he’s a legit hire and a smart move for Oregon in some respects. However, I don’t foresee this guy sticking around. He’s from Missouri and people are friendlier down there. You go from Georgia to the PNW and the vitamin D deficiency is apparent lol!

          • He checked another box. Can’t go back to his alma mater. Not sure if he has a dream school. Maybe it was Kansas since he’s from that area.

          • Wonder how well he will recruit out here. And does he stay with Georgia for the CFP? They got torched by bama so maybe they want someone different making the defensive calls against Michigan.

          • That loss was an outlier if otherwise consistent D performance. The recency bias benefitted 1-loss Alabama and hurt a previously undefeated Georgia.

  75. WBB
Beavs vs Monmouth at 4pm on ESPN3
Listening to Deven Hunter pre-game I’m wondering is there is a parallel here to the upcoming bowl game; on the road vs a solid mid-major.
Anyway, Deven’s keys apply also to the FB team: play with energy and start fast.

Udate #2: Talia’s gone blond, no damage to her game!

    1

Lanning seems underwhelming. He hasn’t been a D coordinator long, which is sn’t to say he couldn’t be successful…maybe his defensive success will allow him to attract a top notch offensive coordinator. I will be curious how persuasive this is to recruits. I expect a negative effect on recruiting, at least initially.

The PAC should be a bit unstable and pretty wide open next year.

  77. RE: Lanning, was this Duck post meant for him?

““If the name I am hearing for the Oregon job is true, us Ducks will be over the moon. Talking we will send Mario thank you cards for leaving us. Trying not to get my hopes up but it’s a credible source.”

  78. Anyone wonder why UO isn’t being pressured to interview minority candidates for their head coach position? I remember Canzano and others got on their high horses about this when OSU was looking for a coach. I haven’t seen any mention of that regarding UO yet.

  79. PFF deep dive on Jack Colletto confirms he’s The Man, and not just for the reasons you’re thinking.

PFF scores guys in high level categories like rushing, receiving, passing, etc., as well as having more detailed categories. Most players only have ratings in a handful of categories, but obviously Jack has way more ratings. The thing is, almost of his ratings are high. What makes this more amazing is that PFF usually grades guys at 60 if they performed their role “as expected” in a given play, so if a player only performs a role a few times, they usually have an average score because they have to make an exceptional play to move the average. Jack’s ratings are off the charts, and I bet they’re better across all three phases of the game than any player in PFF’s history of ratings.

A sampling of his superior team rankings:
    Offense
#1 overall offensive rating on the team (#2 in the conference behind Drake London)
#1 rushing rating on the team (#4 in the country)
#2 receiving rating behind Tommy Spencer (2 receptions on the year)
#1 pass blocking rating on the team, including linemen

    Defense
#1 overall defensive rating on the team (#7 in the conference)
#1 rush defense rating (#4 LB in the conference)
#1 tackling rating (#6 LB in the conference)
    #6 pass rush rating
#4 coverage rating (#4 LB in the conference)

    Special Teams
#2 special teams rating on the team, behind TQ somehow (did you know Jack was on almost every kick coverage play and all but one punt coverage play? Looks like he only took a break if he scored a TD)

    A lot of DC movement:

Penn State – hired Manny Diaz
Ohio State – Hired Jim Knowles away from Okie State at $1.9M per year x 3 years
Houston – Retained their DC with a fatty raise
UW – One of Deboer’s guys
WSU – Dickert pulled someone, not too familiar with him

Major programs who still need a DC:
    – BEAVS
    – A&M – Elko took the HC job at Duke
    – Miami (who does Cristobal hire? Deruyter and Wilson are both gone)
    – Schmucks (do they even need one if Lanning is hired? I imagine he pulls someone from SEC)
    – Virginia – Who does Elliott hire?

Just a note, Jimmy Lake is still unemployed as of the writing of this post…OSU is one of the last remaining west coast jobs open…

    • 3
      1

Smith has to be talking to Lake. They might just be holding off as long as possible to let the flames die down. But I’m sure Canzano is just foaming at the mouth waiting for that hire, so he can write his holier than thou piece about why that was a bad decision.

    • 3
      1

Could see Lake’s decision on DC openings coming down to Oregon State and Texas A&M. All his experience and connections have been on the West Coast. Think Smith would be dumb to let a chance to nab him right after the LA Bowl game slip away.

Bray’s last chance to win the job IMO after a really poor showing vs Oregon. If he doesn’t hold Utah State to under 28 in a Beavs win, don’t think he gets the DC gig. Just a decent pay raise. Lake has never lost to Wazzu and they have cost OSU bigger opportunities in recent years. He is a good recruiter and knows the defensive side of play very well.

It actually would feel like OSU had a specialist in that phase for the first time in a long time. Could see him really hitting stride by 2023 when OSU has the stadium finished. Good chance of an electric home environment that year with program hunting down finally playing in the Pac-12 title game.

      • 2
        4

“Lake ascended the coaching ranks as an assistant in Seattle, helping the Huskies lead the Pac-12 in scoring defense and total defense for four consecutive seasons — from 2015 to 2018. He also tutored a parade of defensive backs-turned-NFL draft picks — including Budda Baker, Kevin King, Sidney Jones, Byron Murphy and Taylor Rapp. Under Petersen, UW won a pair of Pac-12 titles and reached the College Football Playoff in 2016.

… Lake was suspended for one week without pay for an interaction with UW linebacker Ruperake Fuavai during the 26-16 loss to rival Oregon on Nov. 6. UW’s head coach was shown on national TV attempting to separate Fuavai from a sideline scrum by hitting him in the facemask, then shoving him in the back when he turned to walk away.

Immediately after the Oregon game, when asked if he regretted striking Fuavai, Lake responded: “I separated him. I didn’t strike him. I separated him.”

Five eyewitnesses allege that Lake forcefully shoved a player during halftime of a game at Arizona in 2019, The Times reported Sunday. When reached by phone, Lake said in a prepared statement that “I absolutely deny anything improper went on at halftime of the University of Arizona game in 2019.”

It doesn’t see like there’s too much to get over in terms of his behavior. If OSU hired him, and addressed it up front and honestly, I think it would be fine. His “academically prowess” quote was dumb, and I’m sure UO will continue to remind him of that. “In our world, we battle more academically prowess teams.”

Combined with Lindgren’s offense, it would appear Lake could make the Beavers pretty formidable.

        https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/uw-husky-football/report-uw-huskies-head-coach-jimmy-lake-to-be-fired-after-just-14-games/

      • A jump from $800k to $1.9million to make the move to Ohio St.
Does this news have any impact on the Rose Bowl odds? Right now Utah looks to be a good bet at +6.5 and Money Line +190.

  81. 1
    2

    Notes on Utah State:

“This will be just USU’s second-ever matchup against a Power 5 Conference opponent in a bowl game. The Aggies lost to Baylor, 24-9, in the 1961 Gotham Bowl.

This will only be USU’s fourth matchup against OSU in its 124-year history. The Aggies are 0-3 all-time against the Beavers and the last meeting was in 1998. OSU defeated USU in one-possession games in 1997 and ’98.

The Aggies (10-3) and Beavers have two common opponents this season in Washington State and Hawaii. USU beat WSU 26-23 on the road and Hawaii 51-31 at home, while OSU dispatched of Hawaii 45-27 at home and lost to WSU 31-24 on the road.

The Beavers went 6-0 at home during the 2021 campaign, but 1-5 on the road. Conversely, the Aggies are undefeated on the road (7-0), but split their six games at Maverik Stadium.

Oregon State has struggled at times defensively, though, as opponents have averaged 25.92 ppg and 387.8 ypg. The Beavers will surely be tested by USU quarterback Logan Bonner, who is only seven yards away from matching Jordan Love’s single-season record for passing yards (3,567), plus he’s the single-season program record-holder in touchdown tosses with 36. OSU has given up 20 TD passes and nearly 250 ypg through the air.”

So Utah state has a bonner for beavers…

  82. Looks like Lanning to hole is confirmed.

Interesting hire, can’t say I really disagree with it.

It’ll be interesting to see who he pulls in as OC.

    • Still not official, but the writing is on the wall.
As a beaver fan, I don’t mind the hire. I’d be worried if they stole Fickle or the Iowa state coach. But this seems like a “meh” hire to me. Has a good resume, but how much of that is talent? Look at Cristobal, how many victories did he have because he out talented the other team. Georgia’s defense is loaded with nfl talent, and this dude has zero head coaching experience.
Now, flip side. Jonathan Smith didn’t have head coaching experience, showed promise as an O coordinator and has done pretty well. So it seems like a similar hire. Except: Smith was a know rising commodity and an alum.
Alot of duck talk about not being a stepping stone for coaches, and then they go and do this. He has no ties to the NW or west coast.
Just doesn’t make sense to me, if I was a duck. But if I was a duck fan, I’d hate myself.

    • Thanks Angry.

Sounds like a high-risk move going with a first time head coach. I imagine his assistant salary pool will be deep. Is he a great coordinator, or just working with elite top-4 talent? Does the former matter if you have the latter?

      1. He is a rockstar – he will be gone after 2 seasons back to the SEC
      2. If he sucks – well, duh

Sounds like the toilet seats went with a dynamic recruiter over experience as a head coach. The proof will be in the pudding, as the saying goes.

    • 6
      1

He’ll be back in the SEC in 3 to 4 years . Oregon did this too themselves, they want loyalty then go hire east coast dudes who just want to go back home after dealing with uncle Phil and everything Eugene has to offer.
      Oregon Schadenfreude feeds my soul.

  83. So if UGA gets a rematch with Bama, he won’t be there? I know the defense put up unreal stats until the game that mattered most and Saban/O’Brien rolled him. I would have liked to see what Fanning came up with in a possible rematch.

          • It just seems completely insane. I didn’t mean it like ‘you’re wrong big bitch boiiiii!!!!’

Just shocked that would happen with a new HC

          • 3
            1

Pretty normal. Moorhead is coaching through the bowl game for Oregon.

It’s a good thing that he’s staying on. He can’t do two jobs at once. One job is going to suffer. Hopefully Oregon. I would have demanded he leave Georgia right away.

He’s got to hire a staff, which will be tough since his coaching tree will be small. Got to do some recruiting and try to hold onto any recruits still committed. He’s not going to flip any recruits from Georgia.

        • 6
          1

Read the same thing. He’s coachin through the end of GA’s playoff run before.coming to Oregon.

Good, means they’re essentially wasting the entire 2022 recruiting cycle

  84. 3

Ducks brought in a team of high donors, lead by Pat Klikeny, in an attempt to replicate his success in procuring Dana Altman. Altman’s hire also came out of left field.
Also keeping AD Mullins on a short lease after he rushed out to secure Helfrich, fell for Taggart and promoted Cristobal.
    Time will tell.

  85. Is there precedent for a P5 program hiring a coordinator that inexperienced as HC? Even JS had several years as an OC before coming here.

  86. Looks like Bralyn Oliver is backing off his commitment or is going to Syracuse now. Just posted a video with Cuse stuff and everything Oregon state related is deleted.

Some names I think Smith should interview for DC just based off of stats from the last 3 years and realistic chances of getting them.
    Scott Symons -liberty
Kurt Mattix-SDSU although it’s his first year there
    Patric Toney- LA Lafayette
    Dale Jones- App St.
    David Reeves-UAB
    Jess Loepp-UTSA
Also of course Lake. Would be interesting to get the former OC and DC from the year that Washington made it to the playoffs.

Colletto may have competition for the swiss army knife award. Didja hear the Army/Navy game? Diego Fagot, a senior LB, as a blocker on a fake punt gets the first down. Only thing, it wasn’t the play call, HC said, “mistakes happen (we were glad it worked out)”, Fagot said, “it surprised me”.

How does a long snapper mistakenly toss it to a blocker?

Angry, you down to try a Twiiter Space for the LA Bowl? Think should start an hour before kick and go until an hour after if we win. Plenty to talk about with bowl game and upcoming DC hire and could raise profile of Angrybeavs.

Be fun to hear opinions when 4th and 2 on who wants us to go for it and who thinks we should punt.

Yes, super easy to make one. Angry would be the host and if is like 20 people he should just let the vast majority be speakers and people cam chime in when they want for a real conversation. If gets too chaotic then he can limit speakers to like 5 or so main people and let people request to speak from there. Some people will want to just listen amd others will want to share in the conversation.

Maybe he could get 30 or 40 people if he lets people know soon he plans on doing a Space. There is some excitement around us being back in a bowl and OSU trending positively as a program.

        • We used to have a “chat” function here. If that could be made available again people wouldn’t have to be involved with Twitter.

I’d like to hear other opinions. We could just discuss the game here on a game thread, I could start a new thread at halftime (or even after each quarter) if the fear is a long thread.
What is the advantage of Twitter Space?

Hearing voices vs just seeing words. Ducks had 1500+ on at several points talking about their coaching search. Think OSU could get 30 to talk during their first bowl game in almost a decade.

Yeah, the O writer James Crepea was going on and on about how the oregon twitter spaces was industry changing last night. He was making it sound as big as the invention of electric light.
Turns out he just was new to spaces.

          • I, unfortunately, read his cringe-worthy “5 things to know about Dan Fanning” article. #5- Fanning had to run to work one day because his bicycle was stolen. Talk about grasping for straws. Maybe Smilin’ Mike can loan him one of his?

  90. It might sound odd to go the a “Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl,” but the tie in to his show will get the beavers more exposure than some other bowls would. Plus, as many mentioned here, the LA stadium will be pretty crazy for the players to experience.

I’m guessing that Kimmel will reference it many times during the week, hopefully nightly, so the Oregon State Beavers name will be out there, and his promoting it during the week could help with viewership on Saturday.

The promo video on the bowl website has flashes of a few football programs from both PAC and MWC; UCLA, Fresno, UO….no footage of the Beavers or Aggies though yet…WTF?

  91. Looks like the Beavs will have 6 practices
this week to prep for USU, per Niner’s interview (every day but travel day in Tuesday). The coaches have been recruiting the last two weeks, but I’m sure the guys have been hitting the gym and wrapping up finals.

Not as many “bonus” practices as I would have liked, but it’s more than what we’ve had the last 8 years! Plus, the game itself of course. Also, much better than the Sun Bowl. Good exposure in So Cal and a much better experience for our players.

  92. I will be at the game. Is anybody who posts here also going? I purchased tickets through Ticketmaster so will not be in the Beaver’s alotted section. I tried to go to the Beaver’s ticket page to see what prices they were offering, but saw a wall of broken web code instead. Were the tickets through OSU limited in any way (students, season ticket holders, etc.)?

      • Yeah, I read that and that must speak volumes about the situation in Eugene. I’m sure Wilcox sae that MC implored duck fans not to boo the team at Autzen…Wilcox is probably well aware of how myopic duck fans are.

        • Didn’t want to agree to that level of supervision.
That’s a factor that the new guy may have not given enough consideration.
I think Lanning is in for culture shock on several levels, the meddling of uncle phil is only one of them.

  93. WBB:
Good gals go down by 4, 56-52.
Taylor Jones did not play (minor injury?) but Kennedy Brown did return. Mack and Mitrovic again showing good chemistry.
Broken record…TO’s….points off of TO’s favored Villanova 17 to 0.
Poor offensive performance, defense stays good enough to keep the game close.
Third quarter?…….belonged to the Beavs for quite awhile, not so much lately.
    Go Beavs!…..on to Hawaii

    • Rueck’s inability to teach ball security to his teams is baffling. It’s a chronic year-to-year issue. I suppose part of it is that his team’s don’t create steals or turnovers on the defensive end either, so turnover margins almost always favor the opposing teams. Villanova was +12 on turnover margin in this game, so I’m a tight game like this…well that’s the difference.

This team is just not very good right now and I’ve been saying that since the opening game…somethong seems very off with the chemistry… Talia doesn’t score a point today? This team is not very athletic, doesn’t shoot very well from the perimeter and the turnovers cost them today. At last look, Nova scored 15 points off OSU turnovers. The other thong this team seems to lack is a floor leader and someone needs to step up and earn that role. Hopefully, this team starts to show improvement. If not, it’ll be a very long conference season.

  94. My experience with tickets at lower-tier bowl games is you can buy tickets on the street outside for below face, and sit wherever you want if that helps. You’ll probably end up paying more for parking than the ticket itself.

    • Scalping tickets is a bit more difficult now as most ticketing has gone online. Hard to scalp when you have to pay someone online and give up some personal info to a stranger. Cash transactions are rare now.

To “scalp” now, you go online and wait until near game time and buy tickets.

    NEW THREAD?
We are over 600 here, are you degenerates wanting a new thread?
Angry may have one in the works; I could add one later this evening if it is called for.

Likely just continued General with focus on Bowl practice reports, quack OC drama, maybe some griping about MBB.

They must have really lowballed Wilcox. If I’m him, I’m asking for 6 mil plus since they were willing to go to 8-9 million for Mario. Ducks were expecting a hometown discount. There’s already comparisons to Altman as he wasn’t the first choice too except that Altman was already an exceptional coach.

I’m glad they didn’t get Wilcox. He was the scariest hire if he got the right offensive coordinator and he’d be there forever.

If Lanning does well, he’ll bolt for a bigger job in three to four years. If he doesn’t, he’ll tank their program for years. He’ll do well if he makes staff changes when things aren’t working.

Some programs have the head coach position named for donors or others , they should just name the Oregon job as Head Temp Caretaker

Opportunity for Jermar Jefferson to get the bulk of the carries for the Lions today with the top two RBs out but instead he has zero touches so far and they’ve given most of the carries to a guy who I believe was just called up from the practice squad. Weird.

  98. Hey NiceBeav, because of the primer in the twitter feed, I checked out a bit of Luka Vincic senior season highlights. Looks like a King County road grader. Is he going to be playing LT or guard at OSU. Curious if he has the foot speed to play LT in the PAC?

    • From what I recall reading last year Jason White is the future of LT after Gray moves to the NFL. I am guessing he is RT when white is left, for that stretch of season.

Just my hunch based of last season recruiting and what was mentioned. Vincic looks like a really good prospect, excited to see him gain strength and be in the mix in a year or two

Looks like rattler is projected to end up at ucla. But a UCF qb is also projected to end up there who started this last year. Doesn’t quite make sense. It’ll be fun to see rattler in the conference. We will see him in the championship game I’m sure of it.

    • Does UCLA bring their qb back? I thought he still has at least another year of eligibility left. UCLA is getting better but the south is going to be tough as Utah is a force and usc is going to bring in a lot of talent this off-season. I expect them to dominate the portal and be a really good team next season

    • Is he one of the WSU brothers who is transferring? If yes, I know Coach M started following him after hitting the portal. But he also follows up with most reasonable OL transfers. Think that will be a major area we see new transfers after the 2022 signing period is over.
