My big picture takeaway from yesterday was simply getting the albatross of a 22 game/4 year losing streak off our necks. With that in the rear view, this team can now breath a bit and focus 100% on improving. Seems it would be impossible for a team to focus fully with that lingering every road game.  It’s huge. Any recruits who are on the fence might take a second look seeing that improvement and some of the incoming talent, too. It’s early, but this staff seems to know what they are doing more than any since D.E.

Regarding Luton: it seems every year people here want to argue with me about quarterbacks. We haven’t had a good one in a long time. Luton is not good. He’s a 3rd string Pac-12; maybe a 2nd stringer on a bad team. The Beavs should have someone ahead of him. Sure, he has a good arm, so he’ll have some good games. Let’s see what he does vs USC. My feeling is teams like that will have a field day with him. Expect sacks, INTs, etc. Colorado has been in free fall on both sides of the ball since their hot start, so that game doesn’t change my feeling on Luton. If he beats USC, that opinion might change.

I don’t think we have the horses on defense to play with USC, but I’m very curious to see if the win built confidence and we hang.

Canzano is all over Scott on Twitter, and I have to say he’s right on this one. It doesn’t seem to be getting much discussion on AB.

He’s even made a video about the issue.

It’s rare I will share Canzano material, but if he’s doing the right thing then he deserves the clicks, IMO. In this case, Scott and the Conference are being exposed for years of what appears to be collusion and corruption. The game in general has an integrity problem, and the Pac-12 seems to want to compete with the SEC to lead that charge.

People seem to think this is the Beavs’ best shot to win this game, but with maybe three Pac-12 level defenders and a thin rotation of MWC level talent behind the starters, it’s hard to pick them. I guess the rationale is Cal is bad, OSU is at home, etc. That would make sense if we were serviceable. Instead of rising to the occasion, I see the Beavs playing down to Cal’s level. Expect an ugly, low scoring game with two inept teams where the Beavs figure out a new way to lose to a slightly “less bad” team.

Really hope to be wrong because the program has to show recruits there is a future here by snagging a win or two somewhere.

Have at it, gentlemen. Any topic goes. My question: what are you looking for with the rest of this season? For me it’s off the field with recruiting. Looking for defensive difference makers at both the prep and Juco levels. On the field, not much…maybe to see if Jefferson can somehow get more National exposure and Heisman talk (long shot/impossible, I know). Other than that, just continuing to play hard and fight even though they’re clearly undermanned (Smith is the General Custer of coaches).
