Home Football Ranking the 2022 Recruiting Class

Ranking the 2022 Recruiting Class

214

As always, these rankings are in order or talent (i.e. the first listed 3 star guy is my best 3 star guy).

****

Mathias Malaki-Donaldson – Elite. Has his pass rush moves down already, but should be even scarier as he’s coached up. Collapses the pocket. Plays with passion and plays to the whistle.

Jack Velling – Potential game-changing TE. Fluid runner with soft hands. Yale offer suggests high intelligence, so he should move up the depth chart fast.

Andrew Chatfield – His film backs the ranking and hype. With Donaldson they could cause serious havoc.

***

Noble Thomas – Ball hawk who likes to jump routes. Good awareness.

Damien Martinez – Interesting player. Upright runner with a longer stride, yet it’s effective. Makes quick decisions. Appears to be a good pass catcher as well.

Dylan Lopez –Looks solid, nice agility. The USC offer probably has him ranked higher than he should be. Not seeing an elite player right now, but a solid, agile lineman who could become elite by senior year.

Takari Hickle – I think this guy is underrated. Fast, physical, and finishes plays.

Quincy Wright – Listed at 270, but looks lean for a DT. Shows poor awareness (e.g. opponents right next to him, and he doesn’t see them) and plays tentative. When he sees the play, he makes the play. Potential, but needs time and coaching. Good frame.

Melvin Jordan – Really poor tackling technique. Many shoulder tackles on film (should fit in well with the Beavs!). Good frame but needs a lot of coaching to be viable. Disagree with the 4-star rating.

Sam Mason – I prefer him at WR over DB. Reminds me of the old Ohio State WR David Boston with the long legs and large upper body. As a DB, I don’t really like him. Doesn’t really have the body type or skills for that, and Smith states he’ll start there, lowering his rating for me. As a WR I’d bump him higher.

Luka Vincic – Gets pushed around a bit too much at the HS level for me to get excited about him. Has good drive but seems to have a weak upper body. Needs time. Could develop into a starter in his later years, or at worst, good depth.

Travis Throckmorton – Agree with Bill he looks strange throwing the ball. Phillip Rivers is a good analogy there, but more mobile than Rivers. Good mobility. Good arm. But a strange looking player. Super cool name for a QB.

Ryan Cooper – Skill set is average, but he plays with passion and is physical. I’m noticing a trend that Smith is recruiting very physical defenders. This guy fits the mold.

Nathan Elu – Actually looks pretty solid, despite his low ranking and poor offers.

**

Carlos Mack – Not a big fan of what I see. Probably best as a nickel CB or a safety. Hopefully just depth and not brought in to start.

Kord Shaw – Couldn’t find video of him. Given his offer sheet, I’ll rank him low until I see film. My hunch is he might be a Colletto replacement.

Jacob Strand – Couldn’t find video of him. Given his offer sheet, I’ll rank him low until I see film.

If I forgot anyone, let me know, and I’ll add them.

Thanks. Shaw looks like he’s been recruited to be a Colletto replacement.
And Strand does look like the worst player in this class, so nothing to move around.

  1. Don’t forget to check out the Beavers tonight on Jimmy Kimmel!

Predictions on who besides Colleto gets screen time? I’d like to see Baylor.

I watched kimmel last night and that showjust sucks…i dint have any real issue with kimmel but the show stinks…st least it did last night. I thunk last nightwas the first time I’ve watched at least a portion of it. I’ll watch tonight though …..

  2. I read the team has Quincy Wright listed at just over 300lbs, so I think the 270 in his profile info is a little outdated.

I like Velling alot too. Think he’s the most underrated signing in this class(along with Hickle possibly, just need to see him against better competition)

Yes Velling and Hickle very underrated. Who do you have as the most overrated? For me it’s Jordan. This was the first time I’ve had to look at film, and I was expecting something special given his 4-star ranking, but he shoulder tackles a lot and just seems a bit ghetto/raw as a player.

      • 2
        1

That was my first thought on Jordan, but he also moves well and reads run plays really well (at least in his highlights). Maybe comparable to Speights where he has the IQ and skillset to be a starter for several years, but not the highest ceiling. He’s pretty thick already, so I’m not sure how much more he can develop physically.

I think Jordan and Wright are the most overrated. 247 has them rated #2 and #4 in the class. Wright looks like a solid DT prospect, but doesn’t wow on film.

Underrated guys are Vincic and Thomas. Vincic has ideal athleticism and frame for a OT, a lot like Joshua Gray when he came in. Just needs to bulk up.

Thomas’s athleticism surprised me. Breaking up passes on 1/3 of his targets in coverage is insane. There hasn’t been much buzz around him, but he looks really good on film.

      • I think Jordan is tough because he’s sortof between positions size wise. I think I’d like him more in a strong safety role rather than ILB, mostly becauae he has good instincts and quickness but lacks size at the moment.

  3. Off topic, just came across a funny video from Urban Meyer doing a web cam interview with the Big10 network earlier this year. It appears he’s on a boat, and the reflection from a mirror in the room show a shirtless friend of his walk into the room and then it appears/sounds like he starts taking rips from a bong while Urban is trying to shoo him away. Good stuff

  4. Posted at the end of the last thread, but it sounds like UW is making a hard push to hire Inoke Breckterfield as their DL coach.

Anyone have any insights on coach Legi? Seems like a “meh” recruiter, and our DLine is consistently weak. I know we have a talent gap, but still..

I hope Bray isn’t afraid to make some changes if needed. I’d take Inoke in a heartbeat.

  5. I listed the early signing class with position and grouped defense verses offense. Happy there was more defensive signed then offense… as they say championships are won with defense. Just wish we had another DL or two. Four OL’s verses 2 DL’s… would have rather had 3 and 3. Here is the list:
    Defense:
Quincy Wright, DL (6-2, 306), Duncanville, Tex.
Takari Hickle, DL (6-4, 255), Tenino, Wash.
Ryan Cooper Jr., DB (6-0, 190), San Jose, Calif.
Mathias Malaki-Donaldson, OLB (6-5, 235) Baldwin Village, Calif.
Melvin Jordan IV, ILB (5-11, 215), St. Petersburg, Fla.
Kord Shaw, ILB, (6-2, 205), Ogden, Utah
Carlos Mack Jr., DB (6-1, 175), Clovis, Calif.
Sam Mason Jr., DB (6-0, 185), Covina, Calif.
Noble Thomas, DB (5-11, 185), Orange, Calif.

    Offense:
Dylan Black, OL, (6-2, 293), Eastvale, Calif.
Jacob Strand, OL (6-5, 255), Canby, Ore.
Luka Vincic, OL (6-5, 275), Bothell, Wash.
Nathan Elu, OL (6-5, 295), San Mateo, Calif.
Travis Throckmorton, QB, (6-2, 205), Westlake Village, Calif.
Damien Martinez, RB (5-11, 220), Lewisville, Tex.
Jack Veiling, TE (6-5, 225), Seattle, Wash.

    • I’m stoked about the OL. I’m glad we got some prep kids with good size and big frames. I think this is the best group of OL we have had under Niner. Excited to see how Coach M develops them.

I’d love another DL or two (or 3), but so does every other team out there. Hopefully we pick up another impact transfer.

  6. “Phillip Rivers is a good analogy there, but more mobile than Rivers” Good lord I hope so. I can’t think of a less mobile QB. Even DA looks like a flyer next to Rivers.

  7. The narrative around COVID disrupting winter sports is picking up steam. I’m seeing more and more game postponements and cancellations due to COVID-positive players and coaches.

Football season sure ended at the right time. Maybe Tinkle will get bailed out by COVID?

  8. Out with the 3-4 defense at Oregon State? New DC Trent Bray said ‘players build the playbook’

“I like the idea of moving in and out of a three and four down spacing up front. The problems it causes for the offense just blocking, both pass and run,” Bray said.

But Bray isn’t married to a particular look. He’s willing to keep packages of three and four down linemen.

“I believe the players build the playbook. It’s always, what do our guys do best,” Bray said. “For the guys we have now, the four down and four down spacing is better for them. They get to work the edges and go. We’ve got some guys who are athletic.

“Every year, it’ll probably look a little different, based on who’s out there.”

I like this approach better than being married to one formation, especially when recruiting can hinder the effectiveness of your favorite scheme. It DOES require higher football IQ when assignments and spacing are changing frequently.

    • 4
      1

“For the guys we have now, the four down and four down spacing is better for them. They get to work the edges and go. We’ve got some guys who are athletic.”

No shit Duck Tracy. Some of us have been saying it for years. Tibesar was trying to fit square pegs in round holes.

If you don’t have the personnel to run a 3-4 base? Then fucking don’t!!!!!

    • 3
      1

Just to level set Bray, most guys are products of the coaches they’ve worked under,

Let’s see who’s coaching tree he falls under,
ASU – Worked for his dad
      OSU – Banker
      Nebraska – Banker
      OSU – Tibesar

Under Banker for 6 years, Tibesar for 3 year and his dad for 2 years. So I hope he knows what not to do. Banker had some good defenses early on but never really adjusted to the new offenses.

So he clearly know what doesn’t work. He hasn’t worked under any one who could be considered innovative. So he really has his worked cut out for him. I’d give him a fairly short leash. Gets one year free but then on the hot seat after if things aren’t going well. That would mean the problems are systemic if things don’t change next year and the whole defensive staff needs to go.

    • Wasn’t able to access the article, but this sounds as if he wants to do 3-4/4-3 hybrid or 3-4 under?

Guess we’ll know when we see what their base set is.

    • “I believe the players build the playbook…”
Not exactly the same as Casey’s, “The players make out the lineup card”…….but close enough!

  9. Nick barnett wants to coach, he was on joe beaver show and said “I would love to coach at OSU”. Opinions
    I Don’t know his résumé

Has anyone been following the slave labor bill government is trying to push thru? It’s a bill to ban sales of products that are made in the slave labor part of China.

Passed house unanimous went to senate and everyone will pass it….. but one dick bag from oregon(senator) is blocking it from vote for now. Guess who has paid this gentleman $200,000…. Nike. You can’t make it up.

Been saying it but it really feels like Nike and thru secondary avenues uofo has reached it peak and is going to be downhill now.

Nike and subsequently u of o athletics, haha, have been paying millions to lobby against this, because as everyone knows Nike uses slave labor to make their products. Let that sink in. Slave labor, slaves, like in 1800 Nike is supporting this.

I’m not into politics mich but I will celebrate this when it is passed

    • Nice. To ban China all you have to do is pay more and buy USA products. People complain about China, and then they buy Chinese goods. Makes no sense.

      • 2
        2

Go figure and then.people wonder why I dislike the ducks. Nike is one of the primary reasons…the other reasons….too many to list.

          • The interesting part of it is Nike legitimately uses slave labor. Like people forced to work in fear of death or whatever else. I’m prison camps. Like Hitler did.

And than how angry mentioned save a little each week. And that’s not feasible for some. While there is truth to that, the people that cannot save a little each week shouldn’t be spending $300 for a pair of sneakers. But everyone in America owns Nike shoes or at least has at one point.

And this is all happening where we can’t see it. Even the news/media hasn’t talked about Nike at all, because they probably own a bunch of Nike stock. It’s really a sad thing. I hope this turns into a massive hit for Nike-I did buy puts last week, but for a bad earnings report, this is just icing on the cake-

Americans should never support anything than has slave labor attached to it. Chinese made is one thing, but slave made is an entirely other, just my opinion

          • I’ve actually never owned any nike gear in my life. As kids we were too poor, and as an adult I can afford it but don’t want it. Glad it worked out this way because I wouldn’t want to give them a penny.

          • Good point, CJ. I might have gotten some by accident via the Beav store. That would be the only Nike stuff I own. Will have to see who makes the 3 Beav t-shirts I own.

          • Isn’t all of China slave labor? This was made aware to everyone about 30 years ago, but consumers wanted to save 20% so companies, even ones extremely motivated to stay in the US, had to move production to China. Now people want to “get tough” with China? Too late. They have our economy by the nads.

          • Not necessarily. It’s ridiculous everywhere but no Nike uses imprisoned Muslims, that are in literal slave camps. Not just people working for basically nothing, literal nothing with death as punishments etc….

The get tough on China thing is sort of played out yes, but the slave thing is not something people have been aware of for 30 years. It’s completely bipartisan, and it passed to not buy product from this area. Like I said it’s literal slave camps, like buying stuff from hitlers slave camps type. And it’s been happening for years and years, just somehow it’s not a big topic in the world or especially in america

          • Nike is the biggest abuser of these slave camps, but aren’t the only ones abusing it. Do a quick google search of the bill that passed today. Every dem and rep supported this. I’m glad to see someone besides Enes Kanter bringing this blatant abuse of human life, for a profit, to an end. At least a first step toward the end

          • There are skilled labor manufacturing facilities China, not saying they make even remotely what their American counterparts make doing the same work but they do exist and they can build quality products. Most have American engineers/QA boots on the ground.

Seems the clothing/shoe industry is the worst abuser over there.

        • Just bought a Hyundai Santa Cruz. If you would have told me 10 years ago I would be buying a Hyundai I probably would have punched you in the face. But the Santa Cruz was designed in California and manufactured in Montgomery Alabama. Unfortunately it has a Korean name on it but I love the thing and happy it was designed and built here. Glad to see companies like Hyundai and Honda bringing their plants to the USA.

    • Chief Earl Morris: “some religious women may say sex was not consensual because they regret it.” That probably is his consistent personal experience…

Bet Kimmel is glad this story broke AFTER USU was on his show…

We should all get a kick out of this but nemec just graded the beavers 2022 recruiting class. Imagine that, a duck homer heading their rival’s class. I havent read that piece of garbage and probably wont. I’m sure he graded most of the recruits as 2-3 star type players plus some other subtle reminders that the ducks out recruited the beavers. He is a complete jackass just like crapzano.

  12. I think Kord Shaw is also in the underrated category for me. I just realized all the film of him is from last season, and it looks like he spent the offseason working on speed and strength. He was just named 1st team all-state and his junior film already shows a solid football IQ and good tackling form.

I found an article that says he missed the summer camp circuit, which explains his lack of visibility in recruiting rankings, few offers, etc.

There’s a lot of potential there.

  13. A few days back there was mention of band travel. Here’s a re-tweet by the guy who works for Mama M:

from buses losing power, to closed roads, to flat tires and literally everything in between…. beaver cheer & band is trying our best to make it to the @LABowlGame
. please fly us out @jimmykimmel

    Per “cayla@caylabasta”

  14. Given all that is going on this week (signing day, Travel, Jimmy Kimmel appearance) do you reckon the Beavers will play well? I’d like to see them fast and loose (heh heh), but playing well and avoiding self-inflicted mistakes.

Utah State may be distracted by the whole chief of police/sex wrap story JockItch linked above.

The last time Beavers football played well on the road (only?) was @ USC.

    • I’d like to think coach smith would have the team ready to roll. I think like any bowl game it’s kind of a wild guess as to which team is more motivated than the other.

  15. Looks like Beavs are on kümmel tonight. I never have seen the show, looked it up… 11:30 at night? Who in the world stays up and watches that

  16. OREGON STATE 2022 SCHEDULE
    Sept. 3: Boise State
    Sept. 10: at Fresno State
Sept. 17: Montana State (at Portland)
    Sept. 24: USC
    Oct. 1: at Utah
    Oct. 8: at Stanford
    Oct. 15: Washington State
    Oct. 22: Colorado
    Oct. 29: Bye
    Nov. 5: at Washington
    Nov. 12: California
    Nov. 19: at Arizona State
    Nov. 25: Oregon (Friday night)

Sept 24 – Oct 15 looks like a pretty challenging stretch. Relatively late bye week on the schedule.

        • 1
          1

We shouldn’t be afraid to play decent G5 teams. Good teams do. It’s playing them on the road that makes no sense.

Boise and Fresno are both completely winnable games, but as bad as we have been on the road under JS, we’re just shooting ourselves in the foot (like Hawaii last year).

          • 7
            3

No reason to play those types of games. Zero to gain. If there’s zero to gain, don’t do it.

One decent OOC to tune up game as the 2nd or 3rd scheduled makes a little sense because you want to play against better athletes before conference play.

          • 1
            1

I think it’s a good schedule personally. The game in portland should be a lot of fun. Fresno and boise should be wins next year. If they’re not than another year of woulda/shoulda will be in store.

          • 2
            1

Fresno is atleast a recruiting trip to some degree. Boise we gain absolutely nothing. I’d be happy to never play the smurfs again.

          • Agree Fresno is supposed to lose a lot of players and Boise isn’t what they used to be but it’s just stupid to play potential losses that are amped to play against a pac 12 team. With the transfer portal now I think that those are big time landing spots for guys.

          • It was discussed in a previous thread, but why in the hell do they continue to go on the road and play group of five teams? It’s a no-win situation and they have a history of losing those games. They didn’t even get a return trip from Colorado St!

    • Reser should be relatively quiet next year w/half the stadium. They may want to move switch home/visitor sides or opponents are going to have a quiet sideline.

      • 2
        7

Smith cost us 3 games this year, and handfuls the prior. Why would we make an assumption he won’t cost us games next year?

That schedule is much harder than this year’s, which is one reason I was so upset Smith blew our shot at a magical season. Conference will be better overall next year. I could see only 6 wins next year given that schedule and Smith’s handicap (let’s be generous and put it at 2).

Zero reason to schedule Boise, Fresno, Purdue, et al.

        • 1
          2

I agree. Next season’s schedule is more difficult. The Smith cap is a minimum of 2, and w/out some highly effective D lineman transfer, I don’t automatically assume the team will be better.

  17. May be old news, but UCF QB used the glory hole to transfer to UCLA. In a 2 year period he threw 60+ TDS against about 11 INTs. Against what kind of competition I’m not sure.

  18. Anyone see or know what the official capacity of Reser is going to be next year? Looks like is known as O-Live has article behind pay wall.

  19. 1
    1

Watching some Utah State highlights. Their offense looks like the type that had success against the Beavs this year. Could see Utah State airing it out first and getting a lead, suckering OSU into getting pass happy on their side.
Reminds me a little of Cal, where Bonner should be mobile enough to evade the pass rush, and their receiving targets are all taller/bigger than our DBs.

I’m actually hoping for a shootout for the entertainment factor, but Nolan’s deep ball is just so ugly, we won’t be able to keep up. Gound and pound, control the clock should be the route to victory for OSU.

  20. 2
    6

It seems like a pretty big fail to not go after Breckterfield but then have him land in the backyard at UW.

My trust is a little shaky that JS knows what to do on the defensive side and then this development…I hope Bray is the next Dave Aranda, but the coaching tree he has would lead to believe otherwise. I expect a blowout loss at the bowl game and a lot of buyer’s remorse going into next year regarding the defensive staff.

    • 1
      1

With you 100%. Bray has not learned from the keenest of defensive minds. Maybe he learned what NOT to do?

Seeing Inoke go to UW just hurts. It would be one thing if Legi was a stud recruiter or and A+ developer, but our D lines have been the weak point for so many years I just can’t help but think he is the weakest link on the staff.

      • His first official comment as DC flies in the face of Banker’s and Tibesar’s philosophies. I think it’s pretty clear he’s his own person.

    • I guess he decommitted from KSU awhile ago and I just forgot or missed it. Had been a Colorado commit since september, but didnt sign until today, just before the early signing period ended. Wonder if he had some competition trying to sway him at the last minute?

  21. 1
    3

I don’t like tomorrow’s matchup. Beavs are bad away from Reser and USU will be more motivated to beat a PAC-12 team than we are to beat USU.

    • The one thing I like is our OL should have no problem winning the LOS, and Utah State has a poor run defense.
But will we stick with the run?

    • Disagree. This will be the first and only postseason game for several players on Oregon State’s roster. I think they will be motivated. Plus Smith is a good game planner. That being said Utah State is no joke. Mountain West champions holds a lot more weight than it used to.

    • USU has a productive passing game and a D that gets TFLs (maybe a bend bud don’t break D?).

This is another game where I would think if the players are motivated, and the coaches don’t get too cute, that OSU should run the ball well and win.

Is Levengood playing? It seemed when he was in, they blocked better and more consistently.

  22. I know basketball is probably a sore subject. But what’s the word on Chol Marial? He seems like the type of matchup problem that could change our fortunes.

  23. Idaho wbb team is horrible…3 points with 8 min to go quarter #2. Beavs up 17-3 but they’re but not looking like world beaters either. I think Idaho shooting just above 5% so fat….

  24. Oregons new OC sounding desperate trying to keep their top commit.

“ Remember you don’t have to sign an NLI as a mid year. You can just show up on the first day of school at the school you want to go to. Mid year signing period is new! People used to be mid years and never sign!! If your not ready don’t rush!”

  25. Thought I posted this maybe a glitch. Ducks new OC getting desperate on twitter

“Remember you don’t have to sign an NLI as a mid year. You can just show up on the first day of school at the school you want to go to. Mid year signing period is new! People used to be mid years and never sign!! If your not ready don’t rush!”

  26. You know, I’m as pessimistic as any other Angry Beaver, but six “wise guys” in the desert have said lay the seven with OSU. That’s a lot of math, but my money is with folks looking outside in.

    Go Beavs…

  27. Some comparisons and numbers:

“The Aggies and Beavers have been explosive offensively for the lion’s share of the season — USU averaging 33.2 points and 450.4 yards an outing, while OSU averages 32.75 ppg and 430.5 ypg, but have been inconsistent on defense. However, both teams have seemingly turned a corner defensively. USU limited four of its last five opponents to 17 points or fewer, while OSU only gave up a combined 24 points and 496 total yards in back-to-back wins late in the season over Stanford and ASU.

There are a lot of compelling matchups in Saturday’s showdown, but arguably the most intriguing one pits OSU’s offensive line against USU’s front seven. The Beavers only gave up 10 sacks in 12 regular season games, while USU is coming off a five-sack performance against a renowned SDSU offensive line. Additionally, the Aggies rank fourth nationally in tackles per loss (7.9 per game). OSU’s five mainstays in the offensive trenches have combined for a whopping 178 career starts, plus the Beavers have a two-time honorable mention all-conference tight end in Teagan Quitoriano.

OSU has found paydirt on 39 of its 54 trips inside the red zone, plus has converted on 50.3 percent of its third downs.

Fortunately for the Aggies, those are two areas they have excelled in. After all, USU ranks 10th nationally in red zone defense (opponents have only scored touchdowns 45.8 percent of the time) and 26th in third-down conversion defense (.354). Additionally, the Aggies have only allowed opponents to convert on 27.7 percent on fourth downs, which is good enough for the No. 4 spot nationally.

That aggressive scheme has allowed the Aggies to rack up 28.0 sacks and 84 quarterback knockdowns, which ranks sixth nationally. USU is the only team in the Mountain West with four players who have contributed with double-digit TFLs. Those Aggies are defensive linemen Nick Heninger (16.5 TFLs), Byron Vaughns (10.5) and Marcus Moore (10.5), and Rice (13.5).

“We attack,” Banda asserted. “We are going to penetrate. We are going to get vertical, hunt for (tackles for) losses. I don’t coach scared and won’t call a game scared.

Conversely, the Beavers will surely be tested by an Aggie offense that shattered single-season program records in touchdown passes (39) and passing yards (3,975). USU’s potent 1-2-3 punch of All-American Deven Thompkins, Brandon Bowling and Derek Wright have teamed up for a combined 3,129 yards and 29 touchdowns on 193 receptions this fall.

OSU’s defense has allowed 387.8 ypg, including an average of 241.1 through the air.”

  28. PSA – YouTube TV loses all Disney Channels including ABC and ESPN.
If you stream via YouTube TV you’ll need to find an alternative.

    • Yeah, it appears so. I just checked and it wont allow me to add bowls.

  29. Showing my age, but I was actually at the game the last time The Beavs played Utah St in ’98 in Logan, UT. Beavs pulled it out 20-16, I don’t remember it being an impressive effort, but a win is a win. Terrence Bryant was still the QB, I don’t think JS got any snaps. It was a few weeks away from his crazy breakout performance against UW.

      • Good point.
I see two ways to victory:
        1) Bray comes up with scheme to pressure the QB, leading to Wright and other DB’s getting ints
        2) Nolan has an SC type game to lead the Beavs to a W in a shoot out

Not sure a dominating run game will be enough.

  30. Dr. Chuck likes taking USU with the 7.5 points. He isn’t sure they are not the better team or may be just as likely to win. Considers it a neutral site game and says if this was being given played at OSU, would the Beavs then be 10.5 or 11 point favorites? Sees very good value in Utah St.

Despite those betting, hope Oregon State comes out with a good game in all 3 phases and wins it. 8 wins on yeh season won be really good for the program heading into next year and to pick up a couple key pieces in the Transfer Portal.

    Keys to game for OSU:
    1. Baylor rushes for over 110 yards and 60% rush/pass ratio
    2. Defense makes QB uncomfortable
    3. Chance throws no more than 1 interception
    4. Smith doesn’t overly gamble from short of our own 45 yard line on 4th down

Go Beavs! OSU 34– Utah St 31

  31. This game will be a good opportunity for Bray to show his worth. Going up against a high powered offense but against a non pac 12 roster. Although they didn’t look good against Oregon I think that is partly due to the fact that Oregon ran a very different offense in that game than they had ran all year. It seemed that Bray was able to get them to make some stops in the 2and half. It would make me feel a lot better about the hire going into next year if he can get them to put on a good performance.
