Rumors swirling that Shurod Thompson is a non-qualifier (despite upping his GPA), thus all the DB offers late in the game. This is what the Bay Area contact told us months ago. I haven’t heard anything definitive yet, but him saying that and all the late DB offers does imply there could be an issue.

KJ Sailrs Jr and Andrew Davis are guys they’re now looking at. Kenny Turnier has exploded on the scene. Says he’s a Beav commit still, but a lot of programs are in his ear. Seems to be really “enjoying” the attention, and the last thing we need is another SC. I’d scout his personality closely if I were the staff.

Not many game breaking offensive players this class, but Kevontre Whetzel is a guy to keep an eye on.

Beaverkman and Blazer can chime in with some more names as they have time.

  1. 1. This would be a real blow to the class.

2a. Is there a real shot to get either of them?

2b. Hard to really say, you can’t blame the kid for being excited about his recruitment blowing up.

    3. He would be a good addition even though this class is already full of wideouts

Also this is my first comment so, Hello everyone!

      • Mostly twitter. I follow o live though and I have also been reading this for about a year. I don’t know what took me so long to make an account…

          • It’s been like a year since we talked about it, but my Ghostery still shows Google Analytics here. If I view page source, I see all its code too… e.g.:

            var _gaq = _gaq || [];
            _gaq.push([‘_setAccount’, ‘UA-19553164-1’]);
            _gaq.push([‘_setDomainName’, ‘.angrybeavs.com’]);
            _gaq.push([‘_trackPageview’]);

  2. I don’t have much time to chime in today. Wanted to mention a few other names of guys who are still up in the air but possibilities:

    Fred Mauigoa(visiting this coming weekend)
    Bradlee Anae(visited the past weekend)
    David Luafatasaga(visited in november)

A couple of names to cross off the list are LJ Teo and Keanu Saleapaga. Lack of space unfortunately, so they’ll end up elsewhere. I believe Saleapaga is a mission guy however, so don’t count him out for the future.

Also, saw that Shurod Thompson is playing in national team All-star game in Texas (US vs Canada) on the 31st. Hopefully that can be taken as a sign that he’s currently eligible. Keep in mind, the eligibility questions are just rumor and just something to keep an eye on.

Evidence points towards a renewed interest in recruiting the DB position late in the cycle, which seems curious.

Also, a guy who was once mentioned with OSU awhile back, Devron Davis, has had his name pop up again. Don’t think the Beavs have been recruiting him the past year, but suddenly in the last week there was a report of him visiting possibly. Hard to believe anything you hear about him though, so I’ll believe it when I see it.

Things should move fast over the next week as we near signing day. The staff seems to always have an ace up their sleeve when signing deadlines arrive, so don’t be surprised if something develops regarding a player we never thought was on their radar. should be a fun ride.

  3. I’d be concerned if the coaching staff can’t handle kids with bigger egos. The higher rated the kid, typically the bigger the ego. Wtih rankings widely available, it’s hard for kids not to see where they are ranked.

    • Agreed. These are 18 year old male athletes and a bunch of people are saying they want them on their teams. Inflated egos should be expected. It’s up to our coaching staff to manage and channel those egos effectively.

    • I guess, but Beaver fans make fun of the Ducks for all their prima donnas. It’s just weird to hear fans say they want those types.

After SC, I’m just not in the mood for it. But, in general, I agree with you coaches have to manage those types.

      • I just think you’re going to turn away a lot of talent if you only recruit humble athletes. There are some great athletes in the pros who don’t have giant egos, but show me a championship team that didn’t have multiple players with giant egos. But they can be managed. Johnny Manziel not withstanding.

    • So if Indiana successfully poaches two of you commits(Thompson, Turnier) do we just give up on football recruiting ?

Don’t think it will happen but would say alot about our closing abilities.

      • That Bay Area source turned out to be interesting. Said Thompson was a NQ months ago, and also said Thompson and the big name recruits in that area were upset about the Baldwin thing. Now Thompson is looking elsewhere… is it that or something else? Maybe ask him.

Or does Indiana have lower academic requirements?

He’d be a huge loss. My gut tells me this class won’t wind up be as good as it was during the height (i.e. pre Sitake leaving).

    • They offered him….I don’t know if that is a big deal really. They are probably throwing shit on the wall and seeing what sticks.

  4. Hoosiers poaching us would suck big time…

Maybe Thompson couldn’t get into Cal but pulled grades up. Still think he is a Beav come signing day. Really like the Turnier kid- huge upside …but i think he stays closer to home.

Any news on the JC kids in winter conditioning ? Studs, strong , fast, leaders ….

Get that Process rolling Coach A !

  5. Anyone remember QB David Moor? He had major interest mutually from OSU and has been an SMU commit since spring 2015, is rumored to flip to Memphis, likely on LOI day. SMU will pull his offer if he visits any other program, but apparently he is trying to keep it under wraps that he’s visiting Memphis the day before LOI day. The guy is a headcase and I am so glad OSU saw it early on. As a QB, it’s NOT ok to tell a school that you are committed to them for the past year, then flip on them the day of signing. I think it’s the one position that you simply cannot pull that stunt on.
Very immature kid, recently freaked out because Oklahoma transfer QB Trevor Knight contacted SMU about possibly transferring there. Remember he freaked out several times because we offered kids that weren’t even in his same signing class year.

@HateKammy did you take those photos?

Kammy Delp ?@HateKammy 30m30 minutes ago
@The_Real_Bob no, one of my friends did. She works at the valley football center of where this took place.

      • Jimmy Hoffa was related to Dee Andros the mob In turn planted the body in the parker stadium endzone to set him up. Although Dee had connections to the Vegas mob who found out about it and wanted to protect Dee for making them millions with the USC win. On that the Vegas mob made the bid to finish the construction of the north endzone sealing the body forever so the fbi wouldnt find out. Then planted the evidence that led to the Giant stadium endzone to be dug up. The fbi messed up the comunication between the construction Foreman and the Vegas mob. It read “Hoffa is buried in the end zone of the giant killers staduim” they confused it with Giant stadium and dug in the wrong spot………..until now!

        • You’re on a roll today, BB. First the cliffnotes and now the down and dirty on this story! Gave me a good chuckle.
BTW: I was serious in asking Homefry about the gohome…org outfit. Honest questions, hope maybe Homefry just hasn’t had time to respond and didn’t think I was just mouthing off.

  6. Any of the recruits interested in majoring in Vertebrate Paleontology or Taphonomy?

This might be a way of luring some of the high IQ recruits away from Stanford. Where else do you have the opportunity to study football and XYZ first hand?

    • If they find more bones or think they will find more then I bet it means valley completion will be delayed. Given the intact nature of that bone then there must be more right?

Think of the osu publicity with that pit alone. Can any other college stadium say that it is also an archealogical dig site?

  7. I heard a rumor today that Seth Collins sprained his vulva on a mammoth bone today.
Just a rumor, so make sure you go tell rivals it’s being reported as fact over here.

        • Nahhhhhhh, I know who you are. Beavblazer, Blazerbeav, it’s all the same. I see what you did with the new Nice Beaver screen name. You definitely fit the Grover Dill role to Angry’s Scut Farkus. Once you get board with Nice Beaver, try out Twitter Toadie; it’s got a nice ring to it.

          • Wait… when you were talking about a friend with a monkey fetish I figured you meant Jeff Perry and his written, consciously submitted and quickly deleted predilections toward children. I just figured you knew him well enough to think he had no friends because you knew him well enough.

Because why would anyone apply to the written word the things that loser applied?

For the record, Jeff, I forgive you. Your God will demand retribution in the afterlife… or he and it don’t exist. But that’s between you and your quite limited imagination. Forgiveness does not mean you can be my friend. You pretended to be me and said some disgusting things that would make penitentiary prisoners beat you until you were a dead horse.

That’s you. Go fuck yourself. I forgive you, but I don’t have to like you or put up with your completely shitty mind.

            Be gone.

  8. I’m buying the Woolly Mammoth story. I’m going to go rubber neck the site in the morning. In fact I think I’ll take my boy out of school and let him check it out too. Todd Hoffman says mammoth bones are good luck for Goldminers, so I’m gonna go with that and say this very cool discovery is good luck for the Beavs.

  9. Shit, this whole time our football team has been cursed by the ghosts of dead prehistoric animals under the stadium. This could be a huge monkey off our backs. Freeing the souls of those animals is going to finally turn things around!

        • Careful there, bendbeav; I realize it may be tongue in cheek but suicide by cop is real and nothing to be taken likely or joked about. Suffering on both sides.

          • Not sure where you’re seeing suicide by cop. Mine was a comment on something actually deserving of protest. These effin idiots want free handouts for their dying occupations.

          • Dying occupations? You know beef doesn’t come from a grocery store right? And in the end they want the gov to follow the rules they wrote and stop ignoring to laws. I’ve written this already, but they shouldn’t be occupying public land, and they are doing the exact same thing those d-bag occupy wall street types were doing. The funny thing is the same people who bitch about Bundy and his morons are the one who supported that OW bullshit. Hypocrisy much? Everyone understands the poor hippy and slacker who bitch about not getting their far share, and demonizes the guy who actually pays taxes and works for a living.

          • Ranching by grazing on public land is a dying occupation, but I know it employs a whopping 100 people in Harney County. It’s too bad they want a free ride while at the same time wrecking the environment. I don’t recall OW taking over a federal building and threatening people with weapons while utilizing terrorist recruitment tactics. This is more severe than OW and reveals elements of domestic terrorism that’s a bigger threat than anything overseas. I don’t think it should be minimized because they’re white dudes.

          • if you’re talking about Tamir Rice, please. Not worthy of a protest. The orange cap designating it as a toy had been removed. The police had no way of knowing if it was real or not. Shame on whoever loaned it to him and why he was playing with it in a public park. A grand jury refused to indict either officer. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

          • Bendbeaver you didn’t see the OW marching in Oakland busting out windows of businesses and spray painting bank buildings as a giant mob? Please name the last domestic terrorist that did any damage. I’ll go with overseas terrorist as the real bad guys: 2 San berandino shooters, 2 dallas area shooters, guy in Tennessee that shoot up a recruiting station

          • Since you brought up race. I’m interested to know what you think about Ferguson and Baltimore? Those are the real diffention of terrorists. And I don’t consider those guys in burns terrorists, dumbasses? Absolutely! Just because you have a gun doesn’t make you a terrorist. And those guys are just sick and tired of the gov trespassing, changing rules, not following the rules, and mismanaging the public holdings in the west. It’s a giant circle jerk, with public lands in the middle. Bundy and his crew of misfits on one side and the BLM, forest service and DEQ on the other.

          • I brought up race because it guides people’s perception and reaction. You’re referring to race in an attempt to minimize and shift away from the Bundy group. What do you think your reaction, and others, would be if they aren’t white guys, but instead brown skinned Muslims who did the same thing: armed take over of a federal building, call on Allah (“we know that God’s hand is in this”), be willing to die for their cause, create propaganda videos, recruit new members, and basically encourage a way of life outside the law? People would be absolutely shitting bricks, but since they’re white guys, we use individual adjectives to describe them, not only to try and make sense of it, but also to minimize it. But maybe you extend the same understanding to terrorist groups and can validate their gripe with the U.S. government. That’s cool, I’m all for compassion and understanding. Heck, you even made note of their work ethic and the fact that they pay taxes (except for recently, when they wasted how many thousands of taxpayer dollars and weren’t working during the process?).

          • A group of Muslim thugs can’t even make it out of their shooting range in Eastern Oregon, let alone lead an armed march through one of its towns then commandeer federal property and start an armed conflict.

          • Your taking these guys to seriously. If they were anything like a Muslim extremists the sheriffs, state police, feds would have been shot at the second they showed there faces near that office. How can you take guys makeing propaganda videos like this seriously? https://youtu.be/N8TTWujUGsU

Yup there cold blooded killers, LOL. Like I’ve typed numerous times, their grips with the government are real and their execution is dumb. It’s no different from the Ferguson and Baltimore protests. Except one group took over an office and cut down some fences and another burn down their neighborhoods and looted stores. And who again are the terrorists?

          • Opportunistic hooliganism during a protest is a completely different thing than what these guys are doing. An ideologue with a gun, a cause they’re willing to die for, being in a organized group focused on that cause, and a belief that God is on their side fits into a whole different category. I’m not sure why you want to put them on the same scale, other than maybe it’s because you are sympathetic to their cause. You might want to check with the cops that at least one of them opened fire on whether they are cold blooded killers or not. We also have to wait and see how the rest plays out. For weeks there was no push against them to see how violent they are. Now that the cops are pushing, that’s being revealed. Also, do these guys warrant the label “Christian extremists”? I wonder why we haven’t heard them be called that yet.

          • By definition both of these groups (Ferguson and Baltimore, and Bundy) are terrorists. I had not seen the article on intimidation and harassment before this evening (that federal indictment today). And it doesn’t matter if all or some of a group act up, it still reflects on the group. Would you call the people who showed up at the Refuge then left a few days later terrorists? I mean they were there for some of the occupation.

The dead guy shot at the cops? Please provide a link. Because I haven’t seen any info on him shooting at cops, only that he may have charged at them.
I’m simpathetic to their base idea of the government is fucking with land use rules and ranchers are not happy with it. I don’t agree with their demand that BLM and forest service land should be turned over to private and or local government entities. That’s stupid, and a logistical nightmare on both counts.
They are mormons, or at least the Bundys are. Mormons are extremists by nature, or at least compared to “moderate christians”. And can you really call Mormons, christian? Sure they have jesus, so they have a judeo-christian base(so do muslims), but it just shoots into outer space from there. But it’s really not even on the same level as muslims. I mean when was the last time you saw christians machine gunning women and children down, or sawing people’s heads off? And please God don’t say the Crusades.

          • BB… you need to learn a little about the structure of protests.

Let’s say those who know the goons who are hired by billionaire hedge fund owners know the goons are going to be starting an armed conflict on federal land. Let’s also say they can infiltrate that gang of thugs and tag along.

Now that our infiltrate is inside the armed gang’s theft of public property, are you suggesting they should turn into our paid infiltrate and break some windows?

Because that’s what everybody wants. The people I paid to infiltrate the idiots who follow All Hat Bundy must now break some windows… to make that “movement” look bad.

            Fucking give me a break.

          • Mormons qualify as Christians, so Mormon who are extremists are Christian extremists the same way as any Muslim terrorist is a Muslim extremist. You’re relying on what you’re familiar with (white, Christian males), and you’re being manipulated by your lack of familiarity (Muslim extremists). You see overseas terrorists and conclude that it’s a result of the religion, you see domestic terrorists and you apply deeper levels of thinking about their motivations that are outside of their religion. All I’m saying is to apply that level of thinking across the board. In 2001 did you sympathize with Bin Laden’s issue with the U.S. government having a military presence in Saudi Arabia as his main beef?

          • I’m not sure where you’re headed. Being on point would be telling all Mormons that they are not, in fact, Christians… by almost all parameters.

But they know that and only argue otherwise as a distraction.

            But you know that.

  10. OT: I spent a little time watching the comments scroll by on an O-Live article about the Bundygeddon thing going on in Burns. A lot of the comments are funny and clever. Not Angrybeav level clever, but clever none the less. It was pretty entertaining.

    • Doubt it. There was another mammoth found in Corvallis during construction of an apartment complex and it didn’t really cause any hangups.
The types of remains that cause hangups involve human civilization evidence, burial sites, Native Am/American Indian artifacts, etc.

  11. Shitty day all around… Angry’s fiance loses her job and I discovered that I’m allergic to bananas. Big red itchy splotches all over. Thanks Obama.

  12. On the basketball front, ..yeah, OT…just want to comment that if we avoid that late season wilt like last year, we could still have a decent season. And not losing all your late season games would help get tourney invites. It was understandable last season — no bench, big minutes for the available, playable guys…

  13. Saw a report tonight that Lindsey Schnell was spotted down at Reser stadium tonight, trying to chew off any remaining meat from the bones that were found today. Will keep you updated if I hear more

  14. OT: Does anyone really see this class growing much in size before signing day? There is now way they have many (if any) free’d up scholarships.

  15. This just in… it was not a mammoth discovered at Reser but a pre-historic saber tooth beaver. The remains will be reassembled and instead of running out of the Beav helmet the team will enter the field via one big mouth of a saber toothed beaver.

  16. OT: Twitter feed up and to the right shows Ben Kone out and needing surgery for an ACL. Here’s to a speedy recovery. Beavs could use some skill on the front line next year.

        • Luck-O……
Saw your Boilers last night at The Barn. I swear Hammonds has been in school for about ten years. Graduate already! If my Golden Rodents had a only shot 56% from the line, they could have pulled the upset. Historically bad team. As bad or worse than Beav football this year.

          • I liked Hammonds when I saw him as frosh against us. I’m a little disappointed that he hasn’t developed like I think he can. I don’t know if that the coaches or him. I suspect both.

    • Damn that really sucks. Isn’t the basketball team due for an overseas trip this summer too? Man it’s unfortunate that he won’t be doing summer workouts and all. Hopefully he makes a speedy recovery, and I’m still excited to see him at OSU.

  17. Couple of notes:
Looks like Struck from Crater is out, grades may have been an issue and he won’t be visiting.
Anae is a Vandy lean but we might have a shot.
Hirkley Latu I think is a good chance however he might be a mission guy.
Not sure where we stand with Sione and Doug T they are rumored for Missions but it seems like they have interest elsewhere BYU but if they go on Mission we can recruit them in 2years.
That’s the same with Saleapaga who is down to BYU and Colorado but likely going into Mission, probably why usc parted ways.
Kenny Turnier is looking more solid not visiting IU anymore.
The 2018 kid cousin of Sands tape is impressive for Sophomore he looks like a beast. Hope we keep Coach Telly here he is tearing it up on the trail!
Mauigoa is probably an uphill battle but we have shot this weekend to change his mind.
We might be light on OL commits, but have a Preferred Walk On to Gunnar Braden and del Toro from Grants Pass who could go either side of the line. Both are good gambles for PWO’s.
We had a visit from Drew Bledsoes kid who is Jr at Summit HS in Bend where drew coaches him. He is a little lite but tape looks good. Neville and him will be QB targets in 2017.
Kee Whetzel is interesting ATH they visited him 2 x yesterday and are working to get him to visit this weekend.

  18. ASU is a must win Thursday night imo. If they can get that they’re playing loose with house money Saturday evening because no one expects them to win at McKale. If they drop both of these, a 3-6 record at the turn is a huge hole to overcome. Really need to get this one in Tempe. I fully expect W’s against the Washington and Mountain schools at Gill. That’s 7 wins. Somewhere this team has to find a couple more.

  19. So who’s left for this recruiting class? Some big names still out there:

    – Fred Mauigoa (3 star OL) visiting this weekend
    – Kee Whetzel (3 star WR) visiting this weekend
    – Bradlee Anae (3 star DE) visited last weekend
    – Kayode Rufai (3 star DE from Portland) visited in November
    – Hirkley Latu (3 star Safety) visited last weekend
    – Kaelin Himphill (3 star LB) – or has he burned that bridge already?
    – Maxs Tupai (4 star DE) visited in Dec. Visited USC last weekend, Oklahoma this weekend.
    – Tyrek Tisdale (3 star ATH) visited in Sept. We are his only visit so far. I think he was a one-time Florida commit.

Here’s who I think we will lose:
    – Sione Finau (2 star RB) who will likely choose BYU. Mission kid anyways.
    – Doug Taumoelau (3 star DE) who also might choose BYU to stay close to home. I think he may also be a mission kid.

By the way, I think we hold onto Turnier, Wallace, and Thompson.

I think we have 4 more slots, because with 24 commits, Timmy Hernandez counts towards last year’s class, plus the 2 mission kids (Finau and Taumoelau) if they end up committing to us. So that leaves us at 21, and I think we can take 25 potentially.

    • Also, currently our class sits at #39 in the rivals rankings. If we get 3-4 of the guys listed above and hold onto who we already have, this could be close to a top-30 class.

    • That’s a great summary of the current state of things.
Maybe add Luafatsaga to the possible big names? Although i think that’s a slim chance

      • Yes, I forgot about Luafatasaga. Rivals shows he’s been committed to Ole Miss since last February. He would be a big-time get and would probably start at OLB from day one.

      • Depends on the site you get your rating from. Based on the fact he dominated the local Opening camp last year and more than held his own against 4*/5* guys at the Opening finals last year, I would think 4* is a fair assessment
