Last thread was acting sluggish so I’m setting this one up as a continuation. I guess that guy we were all excited about, 4* David Bailey is no longer planning to visit? He doesn’t have an online presence so it’s tough to know for sure. Could be Nemec is wrong. Nemec also doesn’t list 4* DE Sterling Lane II, but I’ve confirmed he is indeed still coming. Will update on Bailey if I learn anything more.
More visitors this weekend and the next:
Damien Martinez – RB (commit)
Keith Olson – OL
Lorenzell Dubose – CB
Zeke Berry – CB
Sterling Lane II – DE
Mathias Malaki-Donaldson – DE/OLB
Lance Holtzclaw – DE/OLB
Colston Loveland – TE
Ian Massey – JUCO S
Next weekend:
Roger Carreon – OL
Mason Graham – DB
Audavion Collins – CB
Carlos Mack – DT
Awesome!
Beaver fan since Tommy Prothro days. Oh,, & BTW, first.
Fixed the formatting, NB.
I didnt see what was going on with it, but thanks

In a separate article, they appear to enjoy ASU recruiting allegations and suggest complete housecleaning if true (AD, Edwards & coaching staff).
All we can hope for is another ridiculous press release from the ASU AD similar to the one from when Herm was hired
Looks like Utah did well.
We seem to have more 4-star visitors than usual. I thought supposedly our recruiting was stagnating. Is this a sign things might be looking up?
We’ve joined the crypto game
You can use beavcoin at the arcade.
According to what? It’s improved every year under smith and he has like 4 of our top 5 classes ever.
NiceBeav was concerned some months back (not sure exactly when) about how quiet OSU staff and HS students were with regards to OSU football. It seemed few, if any, were talking Beaver football.
W/ASU’s scandal, might there be some DT’s and CB’s potentially becoming available?
If current players want to leave ASU, they need to enter the portal by July 1st in order to qualify for the NCAA covid transfer waiver. Will be interesting to see how many of their players gamble on ASU being unaffected by this during their remaining time at the school. Some probably dont care since they’re in it for the free school amd coeds and not really concerned with no bowl games or vacated wins.
As far as current class commits, ASU doesnt have many, but they do have 3 4* guys. But look at the offers those guys have. ASU is suspiciously pulling in 4* guys from Floriday with 30+ offers, including Alabama. These guys arent going to come to OSU unless we pay them like ASU did
It’s not getting much coverage locally, but I think college recruiting is in for a shit storm when July 1st hits. That’s when several states NIL laws take effect, and athletes in those states will be able to start profiting from their Name/Image/Likeness. Many have deals in place already and are just waiting to kick things off when the 1st arrives.
States that have laws in place or will by July 1st appear to be:
FL, AL, GA, MS, TX, NM, OK, NE, IL, CT, and LA
Noticably absent is Oregon. Hard to imagine Nike is going to let Oregon be negatively impacted by this, but local government has shown that sports arent a top priority around here.
Also, it’s unclear to me how the laws will affect players who commit to an oregon or oregon state. Does a player from TX who plays in oregon get goverened by TX law wrt NIL? And vice verse?
Lots of grey area around this. Will be interesting to see if the kids from states without laws in place just go forward with deals and try to force the hand of local government to do something about it.
I’m guessing Nike is developing some slick marketing concepts for NIL. Hard to imagine Oregon (the state) is going to let Nike, and therefore UO, be negatively impacted by this.
I though I had read that coporate sponsors with existing ties to universities would have to sit out on any NIL deals. I could totally be wrong, but Nike having shoe deals with half of the NCAA schools would seem to be a conflict of interest.
Not that they couldnt find some loopholes to exploit.
Also, boosters or donors to schools arent allowed to participate, but again, how is anybody going to police that?
“I though I had read that coporate sponsors with existing ties to universities would have to sit out on any NIL deals. “
Bwa-ha-ha-ha! Sure, UO/Nike will okay by the rules…I’m guessing the marketing capacity and skills of Nike will quietly be available behind the scenes. They’ll probably do it for multiple schools though, kind of like the sneaker wars in basketball.
I remember reading after the McMaryion-led Beavers won CW, Phil Knight (and Canzano) were at an Ohio State game instead, w/Knight telling the Buckeyes after how proud he was they were a “Nike school.” So it’s not hard to imagine other schools getting some NIL benefits….
The more i read about this, its become pretty apparent some of the old ideas no longer exist. It sounds like Nike/Adidas/UnderArmor will be able to strike side deals with athletes, regardless of which apparel contract that school works under. The main thing is they cant wear specific gear during games if it conflicts with the school’s existing contract.
So Omar Speights could have an Under Armor deal, but couldnt wear UA during an OSU game. Also, the athletes wont be able to cross market any products with their school affiliation. So Speights wouldnt be allowed to market UA and OSU together.
Basically. The schools that get the most tv exposure are going to really benefit from this. The ones who get shitty 8PM timeslots or games televised on facebook, will not.
Unless our players are sponsored by Facebook!
So what’s to stop Nike from telling an athlete, we’ll pay you whatever it takes to get you to attend Oregon? As far as I can tell, nothing, except the price tag and Nike’s willingness to pay it.
This is pretty bad for the OSU’s of the world, unless NVidia and Panda Express decide to step in and start sponsoring OSU athletes.
Who wants Orange Chicken!
The 85 scholarship cap won’t have much influence on stopping teams from loading up on talent too. If you were a 4* athlete deciding between OSU and UofO, and UofO was already at 85 scholarships, would you rather walk on at UofO with a Nike contract that far exceeds the cost of attendance, or take a scholarship at OSU with no Nike contract and have college covered?
Good theory, but if you’re that good to command an NIL deal bigger than a scholarship, you’ll take both wherever it is given to you. I don’t think it’s that big of an issue. There aren’t going to be that many people getting large deals.

Announces Partnership With Altius Sports Partners To Develop Comprehensive NIL Program
https://usctrojans.com/news/2021/6/18/usc-trojans-athletics-altius-sports-partners-name-image-likeness-nil-ncaa.aspx
honestly, who would choose OSU over USC, if they’re interested in the side hustle and making a little cash on the side?
I don’t see any benefit OSU can sell except maybe early playing time and increased early exposure for their career. Maybe starting in Corvallis is worth more than being a bench player in a big market like Los Angeles? Hard to say what that balance will be, but most players are going to bet on themselves and predict they can earn immediate playing time no matter where they go.
the lack of exposure the Pac12 network has currently is a huge disincentive for all Pac12 teams, but will especially hurt those teams without the extra exposure like Oregon and USC receive from ESPN.
On the official visit front, it’s nice to finally have some good visit weekend weather in Corvallis. There’s not much nicer time to be on campus than June when the sun is out.
TREE FALLS:
Stanford dropped the first game vs NC State, rough day on the mound for Beck.
Yeskie’s crew vs Vandy in about an hour, HC Jay Johnson being mentioned in the LSU conversation*.
I see no reason not to be pulling for both PAC12 teams in Omaha.

Is there any kind of payout from this for the conference? I know that typically only MBB and football operate in the profit column but thought maybe postseason might at least make it even for the teams that make it far enough.
I’ll be pulling for the pac definitely. Just makes the conference look better the better it does. Anything that helps go against the negatives the west coast tends to get.
Can someone go back through the sports and see how well Pac12 did in postseason play?
MBB 5 sweet 16/3 elite 8?
Baseball 2 teams at Omaha
WBB 2 teams in final 4?
Football none in playoff
Apart from being pushed aside by SECESPN for football every year, it still looks like PAC12 is doing a great job representing in postseason sports…
Could actually say they had the final 2 WBB teams.
MBB went 13-5 with 5 teams in the tournament. Not sure how the women did as a conference but it was probably pretty good considering who they had in the final.
Man, sure would’ve been nice to have been able to hold onto Susac.
After Monday there will only be one PAC12 team in Omaha, who you backing?
Nate may have acted too soon in pulling his starter, we’ll never know for sure. At no point in the 12 inning affair did he seem to be “Too Late”.
“Vandy Boys”………anything like girly men?
It’s still early in the day and I’ve already seen quite a few commitment tweets around the NCAA. Father’s day seems like a good day to make an announcement.
Wouldnt surprise me if we had 2 happen today for OSU, although I havent heard anything specifically regarding timing.
Saw Boise State QB commit Katin Houser is visiting Michigan State this weekend. I’m sure that doesnt sit well with Boise, since he’s been one of their more vocal recruiters, trying to get Colston Loveland to stay in state.
If Houser ends up moving on to Michigan State, it could create a ripple effect as QBs start to try filling in vacant spots, and Boise often goes after guys that OSU is also recruiting. Juat something to keep an eye on to see how things play out with Houser
Boise St also has landed a commitment from one OSUs next week visitors, OL Roger Carreon. So probably can scratch him from the list.
BSU appears to be killing us so far
Water is wet
No #damright so far this weekend. Was hoping to see something from the visits.
Beavs have an unofficial visit coming up this week from a local DLineman out of Washington who currently has a Nevada offer.

Been a pretty long drought since OSU actually anded a commitment from a player who had a competing power 5 offer.
Very surprised we lost Hudson Cederland to WSU.
Why?
WSU jumped the gun sort of late on him and we were on him for a while. But maybe WSU was a better fit on scheme and depth
Besides Kieth Olson and Ian Massey, are there any prospects who are looking like they are leaning towards OSU?
Those are my best guesses. Massey for sure, and then Olsen we still have some competition for.
After that, I dont know of anybody who is strongly leaning towards OSU right now. Noble Thomas possibly?
Not football, but I got to see two of next years baseball recruits playing for the Corvallis Knights last night .
Breaden Boisvert played 8+ innings at first and then moved to pitcher for the save. He hit a legit bomb into the visitors bullpen.
Travis Bazzana, from Australia, also impressed at the plate. Had one great grab at 2nd, but let one under the glove too.
They both are clearly a head above everyone else in the game.
I was hoping someone would get to see the guys on the knights. Bring in those bats beavs!
Knights games are streamed on Facebook
2&Q for zona
Bazzana has been killing it at the plate in the WCL, by all accounts. I think we may have gotten a steal who was under the radar because he’s international.
I was there last Saturday night for the error fest loss. I didn’t see anyone on the Knights that stood out and I believe both guys you mentioned played.
Maybe they just had a bad night, idk.
Gut bomb time (coincidentally, I’m waiting to pick up a take out burrito for dinner, at the moment)
I believe the Beavs will pick up Shakaun Bowser
That would be fantastic, hope the burrito was good!
https://247sports.com/player/shakaun-bowser-46103941/
it was just ok. my wife likes Laughing Planet, but I’m not a fan.
They try way too hard to be healthy. It’s a burrito, it can be a tiny bit dirty.
This is bad news. I believe you’re 0% accurate since you started calling them gut bombs.
Damien Martinez, Keonte Schad, Travis Throckmorten, Melvin Jordan, Cole Prusia, and then I don’t think I called Noyer a gut bomb, but did give a prediction for him.
Whiffs include a couple of OLinemen. who else?
Katin Houser was the inaugural gut bomb, I believe
Houser was pre gut bomb, which somebody else coined shortly after that.

This was a bit harsh.
Response to SCOTUS ruling in NCAA vs Alston from an associate professor at Pepperdine, a Licensed Attorney who also writes for The Athletic:
“It is the NCAA that petitioned the Supreme Court to review the 9th Circuit’s decision in Alston.
Last fiscal year, the NCAA spent nearly $73 MILLION on legal fees.
It just got dealt a 9-0 blow on its amateurism rules. It will now press Congress for an antitrust exemption.
The other thing I see happening immediately following the Supreme Court’s decision in NCAA v. Alston: Programs hurrying to secure engaging, paid internships for NCAA athletes. Imagine a program that could offer positions at places like Google, Amazon, Apple, Tesla and the like.”
Gotta wonder how many intern positions are now being set up in swooshville…………
https://twitter.com/RulingSports
This SI article details just how much of a clusterf* things have become around NIL and the NCAA. 6 states with their own July 1st laws in place, many others with laws ready soon after that. Even more states with nothing prepared. And then the NCAA itself has no idea how they want to handle this issue still.
I’d imagine schools in the slower responding states are just going to start acting in accordance with the the states that already have laws in place and force the NCAA’s hand in governing them differently. The Supreme Court decision yesterday just seems like the tip of the iceberg regarding athlete compensation decisions.
What’s the school’s role in NCAA sports at this point? Other than providing a team logo and built-in fan base. They might as well contract out their logos and stadiums to these new professional teams, at least for football and basketball
https://www.si.com/college/2021/06/22/divided-ncaa-delays-nil-vote-chaos-imminent
What’s the NCAA’s role? If they’re not going to facilitate and communicate change consistent with the laws and in the interest of member schools?
The NCAA doesn’t establish and protect integrity anyway. Is there now more motivation or benefit to go independent? Does it reduce the impacts of NCAA “management?”
And not that there was much in the way of parity in the first place, but now more than ever it will become a contest of which schools have the biggest market and wealthiest boosters. There’s no salary cap. Revenue sharing is at the individual conference level rather than league wide.
Except I’d imagine less money will get earmarked for facility upgrades going forward, and more will go towards compensating athletes.
I see it as a good thing that money is taken away from facility upgrades and directed toward the athletes. Facility upgrades have some practicality, but are just as much about being a recruiting tool than anything. At least with straight up money, athletes can save, invest, etc. and it can have some longer-term value for them.
As you said, the next logical step will be a salary cap of some kind or another division split based on money (like the most recent Division 1 split a few decades ago). I do think this major rule change presents an opportunity for an innovative program to develop a new competitive advantage. Someone is going to figure out how to creatively use NIL to their advantage (like major endorsement deals in Nebraska or somewhere like that).
So of course now is the time when OSU finally gets around to updating Reser stadium, when that money would probably be more impactful as money designated for paying recruits to come to Corvallis.
We’ve got a rich donor somewhere that’s itching to pay kids to come to OSU.
Unfortunately so does everyone else.
you probably saw, the big news today out of oregon is they got a verbal commitment from the top PG in the country. The kid had an offer on the table for $1.2M to play for an overseas league in Australia, but he passed on that to play for oregon. Have to think that NIL money is already starting to show it’s effects.
At least in basketball, the top recruits in the country aren’t typically around for more than 1 year, so it’s not quite as impactful as it is in football, where those guys are forced to stay in your program for 3 years before they can hit the NFL draft.
There’s a reason John Canzano and Andrew Nemec are all hyping up this J.T. Tuimoloau kid for football. they likely already know Nikegon has a leg up on the competition with getting this kid to sign.
And they won’t critically evaluate the way things are changing, they’ll just love that UO benefits from it.
Forgot to mention no draft process either to help even things out.
It will basically be like if the NFL had no salary cap, no revenue sharing, and the top few teams had the richest owners as well as exclusive rights to the first 2 days of the NFL draft every year.
And no GM to help try to get equal value in return for trades. The talent will all be free agents.
Why are we going to continue to watch this sport?
Many of us won’t continue to watch.

While it’s not a bad idea for a change, and I certainly endorse de-emphasizing the ranking system, it’s also kind of an embarrassing change to be asking for.
Is the P12 really worried that its champ is going to get beat out in the rankings by not one but two midmajor champs? That seems very unlikely, and kind of a bad look that we’re broadcasting that we’re worried about it.
The problem is the BS preseason rankings where half the SEC teams start with a leg up.
SB nation on Clackamas LB to CU Buffs:
“ Ludwick is from a town called Clackamas, Oregon, which Google tells me is just outside of Portland. Kaden stars at Clackamas High School, where he plays on both sides of the ball at OLB/TE. At cU, he will focus on the defensive side of the ball. Ludwick chose the Buffs over Washington State and interest from Oregon and Washington.
What more do I have to say? Luckwick is just a huge athlete. At 6’5, 240 pounds, he can EASILY grow into a defensive end, especially in a hybrid front.
At cU, he will focus on the defensive side of the ball. Ludwick chose the Buffs over Washington State and interest from Oregon and Washington.“
No offer from OSU?
OLB/DE are 2 of the few positions we do recruit pretty well, so maybe we just had other prospects we feel good about in this class already?
That’s fair, but tough to not offer a talented athlete in your own state. We’re good at those positions but not so good we couldn’t use another quality player. Strange
agree, i don’t know the reason they didn’t offer, just speculating
His Dad played at OSU in the 1990s: Bryan Ludwick, LB. Very odd that Smith didn’t offer him.
Especially 6’ 5” 240 lbs…even if slightly exaggerated, by his Jr. at latest year he’ll be NFL-sized.
Maybe he wanted to see go somewhere different than western Oregon.
Ian Massey announces his commitment with an edit that looks like an ad for Erectile Dysfunction medication.

Get ready ladies! I’ve committed!
Hmm, I think people see what they want to see.
I like the confidence lol
It’s one of those commitments where you kind of have to trust the coaching staff as far as stars and offers go. I think his film looks good and his numbers are pretty good as well. He’ll have the chance to bolster the safety position but also has 4 years to play 3 which Smith has emphasized while being here instead of 1 and dones.
If it’s easy for us to find an under the radar safety out of JUCO because they played a really late season and most classes were already full by the time they played, why can’t we find a legitimate plug and play JUCO DT?
I wonder how much the 3-4 affects that? Generally they’re just a space eater to allow other guys to make plays so they end up with next to no stats even if they’re good. The terrible defense doesn’t help either. I’m sure with more success they could attract better players especially if someone like schad went pro after this season. Like how Massey said coach Blue’s history of putting guys in the league attracted him and Tibesar’s D attracted Gumbs here because of his previous guys. Seems like its happening at LB and starting to with DBs. Hopefully we see the Dline follow suit.

That’s unfortunate. Dorman effect maybe? He definitely got a lot of time on the mound this year and seems he would’ve been slated to be in a big role next year as well.

SB 5 A 2021

Thanks Nuc.
Since S/As will be required to inform their schools of the details from any NIL contract they’ve entered into, I wonder if that means those details will be part of public record for public institutions like Oregon and Oregon State?
Seems athletes may want to keep that financial information private.
Seems like money just fucks everything up, don’tcha think?
Not really. There are plenty of poor countries and poor people who fuck things up, too. I’d say people have this impulse to constantly tinker with things (boredom?), and it results in making good things worse. MLB is notorious for this. NCAA football is going to destroy itself as well. There will be no watchable sports soon. I predicted this here in 2012, and I think I gave a ten year time frame. It might take a bit longer, but it’s going to be close and a good call.
This might sound like a joke, but I’m serious when I say that on weekends when I have down time I’ve been watching MLW Wiffle Ball on YouTube. It’s an incredible product put out by people who love the game. High skill levels, too. It has completely replaced my former MLB time. I highly recommend people check it out.
Give the premier lacrosse league a shot. Newish league, player owned. It’s on NBC and peacock. Those guys don’t make much $$ and just play for the love of the game. Hell chris hogan landed in the league after the nfl as well!
Do they have enough cameras and the production quality to convey the game well?
They’re called democrats. Fucking shit up with unintended consequences since forever.
I wonder how this will affect summer wood bat leagues.
Not saying democrats dont f things up, but these bills have been voted on by both parties and it’s been pretty close to unanimous in most states.
The first states to sign NIL bills into law starting July 1st were those democrat run hell holes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas
That’s cool. But this entire NIL fiasco started waaaaaaaaaay back in 2009. O’Bannon vs NCAA. In California. Research it.
The only reason those states you mentioned jumped on it now? You think the SEC wants to be late to the party? Nope, they’re gonna beat everyone else to the punch because the writing is on the wall.
This is going to end badly for the Oregon State’s of the NCAA. Unintended consequences. The rich get richer.
The SEC? Don’t care. Deep pockets. Notre Dame? Same. Clemson? Yep. Oregon? You bet. The rich will stockpile talent.
Unless there is some rules put in place with a cap on what you can spend. And harsh penalties for those caught breaking said rule. In the end it won’t matter.
As angry already stated. The death of college sports is upon us. Apparently the cost of free tuition isn’t enough.
Two thoughts:
1) I think this is connected to demographic and economic cycles. Whenever the dam finally bursts and we have an economic downturn, the sports industry is going to suffer major upheaval as discretionary funds disappear. Also, there is a demographic shift working against all the major sports (except maybe soccer) in that youth participation is declining. There are more and more options for recreation every year. Fewer parents want their kids to play football, as an example, either because of concussion risk or expense. The K-shaped recovery (which I believe will continue) will continue to erode youth sports participation. As my kids grow into prime sports age, I’ve seen there’s significant stratification in youth sports, too. Kids who don’t start playing a given sport at 4 or 5 come in at a significant disadvantage if they start at 7 or 8, and can quickly lose interest if they see they’re way behind their peers. The helicopter parents and glory-baskers are leeches in the collective fun pool.
Plus, each new birth year spends more time playing Roblox, Fortnite, etc. than the last, so eSports will continue to scratch a higher % of people’s competitive itch as those birth years mature. The hype over eSports has died out, but the fairweather investor crowd was just early to the game. Our school district just added HS eSports this past year and our youth soccer association has been advertising joint activities between the soccer club and their eSports organization.
2) There are still enjoyable sports out there. I really enjoyed watching college baseball this season (the few times I was able) and it was really refreshing to see how much better it is than MLB as a watchable product. I’m also a big hockey fan, and vastly prefer college hockey to NHL hockey. In soccer, MLS used to be way more fun to watch than the major Euro leagues due to style of play. That has changed over the past decade and it’s getting to be more like EPL-lite, but it’s my archetype of the sweet spot where you can find enjoyable sports entertainment: there was high level athletic ability, but mid-tier skill level, so style of play was aimed more at fast pace, high risk-high reward play than analytics-driven “game management” where the goal is to reduce risk at all costs and win by nibbling at the margins of positive gain. There was also less money, so there tended to be more variety in player personalities and back stories because there was less of a need to “play it safe”. There was one guy who was a practicing doctor/Scottish 3rd-tier semi-pro who came to MLS to pursue his dream of playing full time (they called him Dr. Goals).
If investing was a sport, would you rather watch a passively managed index fund, or a cryptocurrency?
Other than like a phenom Tiger Woods there is not one example of a 4 year old who’s permanently better than a peer starting at 7.
Agreed, and the studies done on the subject show that professional athletes develop best playing multiple sports rather than specializing out of the womb.
But it’s demotivating to kids when their peers’ parents have invested way more time and money into them by the time they get around starting a sport. It also shapes the culture of youth sports, where there’s more pressure and competition from an increasingly younger age. I’ve seen plenty of examples personally and see new ones with each new season, but this all pretty well documented elsewhere, too.
Skill is related to two major factors: innate ability and practice time. So the kid who started at age 4 has a big leg up there with time spent learning the game.
This tends to have a reinforcing effect: the kids that are better enjoy it more and are likely to spend more time playing and practicing- and continue to improve. The kids that are worse are more likely to be disinterested and spend less time on it, falling further behind. At some point, the better kids will also start getting more PT in games.
Of course the kid with the late start can make up for lost time, but it takes effort and their lack of comparative ability tends to discourage them from putting in the extra effort. And of course a kid with a lot of innate talent can show up late and be good right away. But all else being equal, the early practice time does make a big difference.
When you’re 5? You’re having fun and not much translates to success when you’re 17.
Blitzball is fun to watch, as well.
Nice. I’ll check it out. Why did I get 3 down votes for recommending an awesome wiffle ball league? Watch it first; then see if you want to down vote…
Yeskie to TX AM as pitching coach is being talked about. Interesting move…might help position him for a HC job in SEC country?
By who? The same guy that said Casey to lsu is a done deal?
Kendal Rodgers of D1 baseball.
Any chance Sidd and Kendal are one and the same?
Both had Casey to LSU and, now, Yeskie to aTm.
And what about Sidd’s feeling that Darwin is headed to aTm?
Haha, Kendall is one of the top college baseball voices being in charge of D1 baseball site. Sid, not so much. I hadn’t heard anyone else talk about Barney out. Seems like he’d want to stay in the area as he’s also involved with the PDX baseball project but who knows.
Yeah, I’m somewhat familiar with Kendall eventhough I left off one “L”. He, Aaron, Shotgun, et al used to have more material outside the paywall at D1; not so much anymore. Regardless, he did seem convinced awhile back about Casey going to LSU.
Sidd, OTOH, tweets irregularly and kinda followed Kendall on the Casey thing, the business about Barney going to aTm was, I believe, all Sidd.

Mama took a break from showing houses to submit crystal balls for OSU to land Luka Vincic and Dylan Lopez.
I’m not seeing what she’s seeing at this point, but she usually has a pretty good track record with these things, outside of this year.
Cal did pick up 1 OLineman commitment today, from another guy who was on visit last weekend with Lopez and Vincic.
Not sure how many they will take in this class, but could have a domino effect on the 2 who visited OSU recently.
ESPN did a feature picking the player who stood out most during training camps and two Beavs made the list.
Good to hear about Hodgins in particular- it’s a crowded depth chart there and his NFL career didn’t exactly start very promisingly.
WR Isaiah Hodgins
Hodgins was a standout during the first few days of last year’s training camp, but a shoulder injury sidelined him for the entire season. With a clean bill of health, he stood out once again in OTAs and minicamp, even shedding the red noncontact jersey before the team broke for the summer. Hodgins still has an uphill battle in a crowded Buffalo receiver room, but he has received praise from both coach Sean McDermott and quarterback Josh Allen. — Marcel Louis-Jacques
CB Nahshon Wright
Wright was something of a surprise pick in the third round, but his size (6-foot-4, 183 pounds) made him a perfect match for what coordinator Dan Quinn wants in a cornerback. Through the rookie minicamp and into the organized team activities and mandatory minicamp, Wright has been around the ball a ton. He had multiple interceptions and a handful of pass breakups. It hasn’t always been clean and he has a long way to go, but the Cowboys might have hit on a less-than-known pick. — Todd Archer
Isaiah Dunn also showing promise during camps. He’s got a legit shot to make squad.
Where is he?
Dunn is with the Jets. FWIW, he received the largest signing bonus for UDFA CB. Due to some injuries, he has been reps with the first team D.

I think Hodgins would be a red zone gift for an accurate QB and a cheap pick up if the Bills let him go. Just think what a Wilson, Rodgers, or Mahomes could do with him, particularly with other weapons they have.
Didnt realize this one was going public. 4* transfer WR John Dunmore will be on official visit this weekend.
https://247sports.com/player/john-dunmore-94688/
Need some d line help but hey, if we can be in the mix for a 4* wr that doesn’t hurt either.
Looking for his third school in three years
Not quite
Can he play DT?
Not very well
What 4-star news is Nemec teasing?
Nemec is saying a 4* commitment might be coming soon for the Beavs.
I’ve confirmed but unfortunately cant give tips. I know of 2 upcoming actually. 1 is who Nemec is hinting at and will happen this afternoon. The other will take more time.
2 commitments or 2 4 star commits?
Both, although not every site consistently calls a guy 4*, so take that rating with a grain of salt.
Should hear about it in about 1/2 hour
There’s the Coach Smith Bat Signal…
*Beaver signal
Four star long snapper. Yes!!
Can he play DT?
There you go. Center Dylan Lopez, who is 4* on ESPN.
Was previously committed to US
This is fantastic. 4* o line help.
Solid offer sheet and doesn’t sound like someone who’ll flip either.
https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Dylan-Lopez-127216/RecruitInterests/
https://247sports.com/Article/Dylan-Lopez-Oregon-State-Cal-Bears-football-recruiting-football-commitment-USC-Trojans–166956544/
How the hell did we land a guy from FL that USC also recruited? Smith finally sending out the Bitcoin?
Technically from the Los Angeles area, but his family moved him out to IMG Academy in Florida last year so he could play ball.
Best college town in PAC, no noisy airport nearby, Reser stadium poses no threat to auditory health. Girls, girls, girls….
Seriously, makes me wonder a bit if the O-Line coach and this line are getting a good enough rep to pull a recruit like this. This O-Line is getting recognition from W Coast media and college football publications, so who knows?
Although he did already flip once but hopefully you are correct.
I’d say a more than solid offer sheet.
Great pick up!

jay johnson is going to LSU
Maybe Yeskie gets the UA gig? Just a thought.
Tough loss for UA. Johnson had them a very solid program that was trending up.
Yeskie might go with him
Yeskie and Jay Johnson seem to have a genuine dislike for each other. Rumor is, Yeskie to Texas A&M.
Didn’t Yeskie post a picture boasting about Johnson when they got to Omaha? What are the clues they dislike each other?
Kendall Rodgers seems pretty certain that Yeskie is going to TX A&M. Been hinting at that for 2 days or so. Will be interesting see if he holds up and is interviewed for the AZ job.

I wonder if susac may want to come back now that claunch is gone(I think)
Seems Canham’s job just got easier??
Still no head coaching job for
Yeskie.
Why is it this ‘great leader of men’ can’t seem to secure a top job? What did Casey know?
OT: Crazy sex abuse scandal at UM.
At one point during his college football days, Jon Vaughn was told by the team doctor that he needed his sperm for research purposes.
Vaughn was a star running back for Michigan football. He says he was “terrified of cancer” because his mother was battling it. This led him to do whatever doctors told him to do, especially if couched in the pretense of cancer screening.
And so, as difficult as this is to write, and as horrific as it is for Vaughn to recall, he allowed that doctor to stimulate him so that the sperm could be produced. It happened, according to Vaughn, more than once.
This is the level of terror that one human monster named Robert Anderson allegedly inflicted — on students, athletes and hundreds of others who came to him in the naïve belief that a doctor, as sworn to by the Hippocratic oath, will do you no harm.
Instead, the harm never stopped. It went on for the 36 years that Anderson worked at U-M. It goes on to this day, in the restless nights and haunted thoughts of his former patients.
In a news conference Wednesday morning never quite seen before in Ann Arbor, abuse survivors, dozens of them, stood in street clothes in the hot sunshine of a Main Street lawn — men, women, Black, white, middle-age and older — all behind a podium that was set up just right, with the huge “M” of the Big House in the backdrop of every camera shot.
The University of Michigan was the target of their wrath. Their lawyers want the U-M Board of Regents to cooperate with a state attorney general investigation into decades of abuse by Anderson, and, almost more importantly, the coaches and administrators whom they say never stopped him, seeking justice and presumably a bigger-than-you-can-imagine settlement.
Wednesday, as with a similar news conference last week, brought stories that left you shivering or clenching your fists. The alleged acts are abusive and unforgivable.
But let’s be clear. All the torment, all the years of anguish, doubt and guilt, all the tainted dreams behind the sad faces near that podium Wednesday morning, lay first and guiltiest at the dirty hands of one man.
Robert Anderson.
He is both the reason and the insanity.
…
How does one man get to inflict this much damage? Don’t you find yourself asking that today? How does one man harm so many people, yet stay on the job for 36 years, retire without a blemish, and only now, 13 years after his death, endure the arrows fired by his accusers that die in the dirt above his grave?
“All I know is I should have never met Dr. Anderson,” Vaughn said.
He’s right. By the time Vaughn endured what he called years of being “ruthlessly, repeatedly and regularly raped by Dr. Anderson, at least 45 times” between 1988 and 1991, plenty of other people had come forward to complain about him.
Those stories, now being revealed, show a perverse abuse that seemed to fall into a pattern: Players would go to Anderson for any number of medical reasons — but always for annual physicals — and he would perform unneeded rectal and testicle examinations on them, sometimes making sexual suggestions as he did.
It didn’t matter what your true ailment was. Your pants almost always came down. Richard Goldman was a student sports announcer in the early 1980s who stood by that microphone Wednesday morning and said that he was sent to Anderson after complaining to Schembechler about migraine headaches.
Goldman claimed that Anderson (in the middle of an exam about headaches, remember) reached down and grabbed Goldman’s testicles. Further abuse attempts happened two more times, Goldman said.
Similar charges were echoed by a former Michigan wrestler named Tad DeLuca. And last week, two former football players and Schembechler’s son, Matt, told horrible tales of Anderson’s allegedly disgusting practices.
“You can’t imagine that we’re all in a conspiracy, corroborating to take down the university we love,” Vaughn insisted. “I still cry for this situation. I still cry for my brothers that I know that can only still say to me, ‘Me, too.’
….
The allegations spoken Wednesday did not implicate Schembechler as harshly as charges by his son did last week. On Wednesday, Vaughn said that despite the continued abuse, he never spoke to Schembechler about it. Goldman, the college radio announcer, said he immediately told Schembechler, who told him to quickly go tell Canham, then the athletic director.
Goldman said the first time, Canham ignored him, and when it happened again, he ignored him again. The third and final time, after Goldman refused to submit to another Anderson physical when merely seeking medication for his migraines, Goldman went straight to Canham and loudly complained that nothing had been done.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2021/06/17/mitch-albom-michigan-sex-abuse-robert-anderson-bo-schembechler/7731332002/
To which Canham, according to Goldman, replied, “Go (expletive) yourself.”
Goldman said Schembechler was so upset by that, he marched into Canham’s office and behind closed doors, screamed about Anderson still being there.
“Bo read him the riot act. I could hear Bo clearly. … He was telling Canham, ‘What in the hell are you doing? Why hasn’t this man been fired? This is the third time that this has happened. Why have you done nothing?’
“Whatever one thinks of Bo Schembechler doesn’t matter. Can we laser-focus on the fact that the employee went to the employer (and) the employer was Don Canham?’ ”
…
And on this saga goes. The camps are dividing into those who believe Anderson was a deceitful and perverted lone wolf who always denied any wrongdoing, and those who believe Schembechler, Canham and other U-M staff not only knew about Anderson’s behavior, they covered it up or looked the other way.
But while ignoring an abuser is a despicable thing, it’s still shades different than the abuser himself. On Wednesday, in the hot June sunshine, more accusers made that point and made many other points, and left pretty much everyone watching sigh in disbelief for what was lost, and what will never be found out.”
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2021/06/17/mitch-albom-michigan-sex-abuse-robert-anderson-bo-schembechler/7731332002/
How long did it take Penn State to recover from its scandal?
Besides the 1 commit that will be happening in the next few days, I think there is a high potential for another this weekend.
Local OL (and gut bomber) Jacob Strand from Canby will be on am official visit to OSU. 6’5″ 270 with 3.97 GPA
We are his lone offer currently.
The fact that we had him in for his initial visit/workout on the first day possible(June 1st) makes me think OSU has been high on him for this class and wanted to get to him as early as possible.
247 shows him with an offer from air force too. Well hopefully the staff is right about him because they seem to be in a pretty good place with quite a few OL recruits so far this cycle. Angie has Vincic going to the Beavs and Olsen seems like a lock. I wonder how many they plan on taking.
Oh, i missed the AF offer. Good catch.
Vincic is in Utah on a visit this weekend. Also just visited Cal. I still don’t have a good read on him.
Olsen has been pretty low key since visiting USC and OSU last week. Not sure what he’s thinking either.
I read Nemecs article about his visit earlier and I didn’t get the impression he was at all ready to commit. It said he was planning visits for the summer and kind of sounded like it was “his first” pac 12 offer and was looking to accumulate more. You may have a better pulse on him and I’m kind of reading between the lines but that’s what I took away. Anyways I trust Michalcik probably the most out of any of the coaches so if he really likes this kid then he must be legit. Just no other real offers is a bit worrisome and I just hope they’re not settling too soon. That being said I think this staff is good at finding guys early and that are under the radar which you have to be able to do at OSU.
Nicebeav, Dylan Lopez in his interview said he is actively trying to recruit Vincic to OSU. They both developed a good relationship on their visit. Lopez also said Vinic is super talented and OSU needs him. Lopez sounds like a very smart player. He left Cali for Florida because of Covid. In Cali he would not have played last year. At IMG he gets to play with some serious stud recruits and is trying to bring them here. He said he is done with his recruitment. Wanted to play his senior season with no distractions and he’s on track to enroll early. Good stuff for the old Beavs!
WBB:
Rueck announces new assistants, Jenny Huth as expected and Devin Hunter from the 2012-16 team. An established coach and a former Beav player; seems a good combo.
https://osubeavers.com/news/2021/6/24/womens-basketball-rueck-welcomes-huth-and-hunter-to-beaver-coaching-staff.aspx
Deven.
Stay cool, Beavos.
We just dealt with that nonsense.
Glad we didn’t get Katin Houser. Probably would have decommitted from the Beavs too when other opportunities came knocking. Smith still has a great track record of keeping commits though.
Will be out camping again this weekend. May not have internet, so no updates from this afternoon till Sunday evening, most likely.
I love the idea of camping, but then I get out there and I just want my bed and a nice shower. How do you campers do it? Especially in this heat.
I love camping, but I do enjoy it more when it’s less “roughing it.” Campgrounds with showers are a definite plus for me, even if they’re not super nice. A nice air mattress also makes a big difference for me.
As for heat, I’ve always camped near some body of water (lake or river) and just the proximity helps drop temps a lot. Plus you can always go in the water to cool off.
I’m at the other extreme.
Have a favorite place, 6 mile backpack to tree line near 6,000 ft. Nothing better than solitude just below snow line in early July. Cooler up there and altitude clears the mind.
You hike that far? I thought you were like 70!
Heh, heh, you got the age about right. I go slow and pack light, no more 40 lb packs for this oldbeav!
Alex and Tango Whiskey have got it right about disconnecting and resetting, really agree with:
Getting connected back into nature is very important for everyone. … Just focusing on living and surviving is really healthy for the mind
Yeah, but can’t you get back to nature with day hikes? That’s what we do. Hiking and biking and then gardening. It gives me my fix. I know there’s something to being totally away from people, but I’m not sure it’s worth the trade offs for me.
Nothing wrong with day hikes but I find dusk and dawn are my favorite times; wildlife more active and wildflowers open and pretty in soft light. I like being settled rather than traveling at those time.
Oob, exactly, nights under the stars or by a campfire deep in the wilderness is something to behold. I recommend going with a experienced backpacker for the first trip. We live super comfortably even deep in the wilderness. The gear is what brings the comfort. It’s always a trade offs of weight and comfort. Short hikes you can bring in more comfort and weight. With my tent, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag I sleep better out there than at home. Have a lightweight chair for chilling in camp. People would be surprised at how relaxing it actually is when you do it right. Too often folks go too far with sub par gear and it’s just a miserable experience. That’s how my first go was. Didn’t have the right footwear and ended up with plantar faciitis on both feet. Don’t recommend it lol
Yeah the “swamp cooler effect” being near water. It’s legit.
What’s the difference between camping with all those amenities and just pitching a tend in your backyard? I was learning toward the latter…lol.
That’s fair- and a lot of it is related to the campground. I’m pretty picky about where I go, and some places are way better than others. The views, the ambience, the cooling effect, easy access to activities (hiking, biking, swimming, etc) that you might not have from home.
I do enjoy being disconnected – lack of cell coverage and not having electronics available is a plus for me. I think if I were camping in my backyard, I would tend to go inside and do normal stuff and it wouldn’t be immersive in the same way. Disconnecting is relaxing and helps me find time for different things. For instance, I find that it’s hard for me to find time to read when I’m at home, but I read voraciously while camping.
Angry, If you get a chance do a little one night backpacking trip to a Lake. It’s really worth it. I echo what Alex said. One thing about this time or year is the bugs. Mosquito’s will be out. Although, should be less of them with the hot weather. September is my favorite time. Hot days, cool nights, less bugs.
For me when its hot, I have to be near a swimmable lake or up high in elevation.
So many beautiful easy hikes out there to get ya started. Getting connected back into nature is very important for everyone. Its always a nice reset when I am going through stressful times. Just focusing on living and surviving is really healthy for the mind. It makes you appreciate all the conveniences of life that we take for granted sometimes.
Yeah we’re planning to do a camp this Fall. My favorite season by far, and about the only I could tolerate out there due to all the things we discussed (weather, bugs, etc). Late September or early October.
What time of year you go makes a big difference. Fall and spring are the best, unless you have water nearby to cool off in.
We planned most of these trip about 6 months ago. Didnt expect to be seeing triple digit heat up at Mt Hood. Was just checking temps, it’s supposed to be 100 on Saturday and 104 on Sunday. That’s insane for the Mountain area. Oh well, lots of build in shade up there. Might have to spend some time at one of the lakes.
I think we have about 8 camping trips this year, this is #3. Soon I’ll be burnt out, because it ends up being more work and less vacation for me, being the one who packs amd loads everybody’s stuff.
As for lack of showers, it’s not so bad if you’re only gone 2 days. After that, i at least need a good rinse in a lake or river.
Angry, any words of wisdom concerning Bitcoin this week?
The halving cycle broke down and proved to be false, so now it’s trading on technicals. It couldn’t hold support overnight, so now it’s trading lower. This is all bearish with 20k still in play. I think it’s safe to accumulate in the 30s knowing it could drop to 20k. Time frame matters. That advice is for the next month or so. If you’re looking long term this is a great time to buy. In a year people will regret not buying this dip. Figure out your timeframe and risk tolerance and go from there. If you have no risk tolerance wait for it to hold support and even breakout before buying.
How much amc you got?
0.
Why would I own AMC?
Cuz it’s up over 400% in the last 6 months or so.
Thanks Angry, good advice on bitcoin. You’ve been more accurate than most people with your predictions.
Pro tip for everyone. All representatives have to reveal their investments publicly. Take a look at Pelosi. My buddy bought AMC at the same time as her.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/nancy-pelosi-recent-stock-purchase-173817407.html
I should add, she didn’t directly. Her husbands investment firm made the purchase. Here is a great site to track this info: https://www.smartinsider.com/politicians/
But it’s a crap company that I could be left holding the bag on.
Set stop loss, and make a stack of cash. Or be an adult pitching a tent in the backyard.
I was talking to my friends the other night, and we decided the worst trait in a fellow human is when you confide something in them, and then they use it against you. Congrats. I look forward to your very predictable wiffle ball comments in the near future, too.
Lol – I’ll be sure to not break your trust next time you post a comment in a blog for anyone to read.
Yeah. Notice not one other person uses information I share against me? It’s a you problem. You’re just a shitty human.
Well you being so damn sensitive is a you problem. Are you honestly saying none of your friends would tease you for putting a tent in your backyard? It’s funny. Are you gonna put it on your trampoline too? Take an edible and chill bro
Very interesting dynamics going on here. I feel like angry is the being pretty chill and angry@angry wants his attention really bad.
It’s borderline obsessive
He’s the Frank Grimes to angry’s Homer Simpson.
Well, start with his name…he seems pretty obsessed with Angry and needful of his attention.
I saw Nike had a great earnings report this morning. Are they still doing the sweatshop thing? My brother is telling me they stopped, but I find that highly dubious.
It would appear they’re still doing it. It comes up in the media at least once a year. Their defense is always “we can’t control what sub-contractors do,” which is absolutely ridiculous.
Exactly, just fire them and hire a new sub contractor and put it in the contract they won’t do that. If they do, sue them. Solved. They simply don’t want to change.

Their coach said in an interview a couple days a bunch of player and himself had some sort of “bug”.
Bummer. Are the “Vandy boys” gonna luck out here?
OT: I see NC State has Sam Highfill, who pitched 7.1 innings of two-hit ball during NC State’s 1-0 win over Vanderbilt on Monday, playing first base in the rematch. It’s his first start of the season at first base. Always been intrigued by having a pitcher at another position with the ability to take the mound for an AB or two…….rough to do at this level.

“Nike is committed to ethical and responsible manufacturing, and we uphold international labor standards,” the company said in a statement that received attention in March. “We are concerned about reports of forced labor in, and connected to, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR). Nike does not source products from the XUAR, and we have confirmed with our contract suppliers that they are not using textiles or spun yarn from the region.” lol
“Look, our sweatshops are in other provinces okay? Back off.”
Wow, nc state out because of covid, vandy gets a free pass to cws
Got the hOle pass.
Gee, if only NC State knew that they could have been vaccinated…..Hope they are enjoying their “freedom.”
Did they really pass on it for political ideology?
Edit: my friends are texting me that vaccinated players got Covid.
Lots of misconception out there that vaccines make people immune too. It reduces the symptoms significantly and reduces viral shedding. It’s the difference of being prepared for a test and just showing up.
Proof that this experimental vaccine for Covid isn’t really a vaccine then, immunity is the point of any vaccine until 2021.
The vaccine is being pushed onto the population by all manner of marketing, bribery, coercion, pressure and threats against personal liberty.
Why the urgency if 99% recovery rate for any under 50? Why mandate college athletes in peak health to take an experimental vaccine?
Angrybeavs has a solid history of asking why questions regarding OSU athletics. I ask similar questions about these type of policies because on the surface it all sounds like caring for your neighbor, but digging deeper it has a bit of the government up to no good scenario.
Why has the entire US military been forced to take the vaccine? Fauci is already floating the idea of follow-up booster shots, that is by definition not a vaccine, and maybe as simple as a huge financial play for the big pharmaceutical companies that Fauci is involved with over his career.
Commence the shout-down about politics and Trump support etc…nobody can think about these things or mention obvious concepts that seems contradictory to past experience. I never had a Polio vaccine booster shot, did you?
Ohio, I would argue any vaccine is experimental in a sense. That’s why we have trials and testing. I think what most people are missing is that these are not a 100% FDA approved vaccines yet and we don’t know how long immunity even lasts. In addition I am not sold on mRNA vaccines yet, this is the first one out to the masses. The results haven’t been great when you look at a comparison of side effects with older vaccines. It’s promising stuff but when I have a greater chance of lifelong side effects I am gonna take a pass. A lot of these decisions depend on your age. Looking across the world the death rate for COVID fans my age group, it’s .01%. And I am gonna guess that percentage had pre existing conditions of some sort. I hate that the gov’t is not telling people to eat healthy, exercise and practice good hygiene. Those three things will protect you more than any vaccine will.
Yeah. My friends keep asking me if/when I’ll get the vaccine. It comes off to me as a suggestion rather than a question. It’s annoying. They’re liberals, and I kind of know what they’re doing. It’s real simple that nobody should mandate what you do with your body on any issue.
I have a legit medical reason to not want the vaccine, so I’ll get it if/when ready.
Uh…no. No vaccine gives true immunity. It primes your body to respond to a threat. The primed response cuts time out of an immune response and reduces symptoms, spread and recovery time.
That’s why herd immunity is important for vaccinations, it reduces the likely hood of spread and prevents death. The vast majority of deaths in areas with 70% plus vaccination rates of any deadly virus is unvaccinated people.
Most people in developed nations actually get 4 polio vaccines when they are children.

“According to multiple sources, two unvaccinated NC State players tested positive for COVID-19 this week, prompting the NCAA to test the entire roster, including vaccinated players. Four positive tests came back from that round of testing, prompting the no-contest ruling. All four of the latest positive tests came from vaccinated individuals who were in the dugout for Friday’s game against Vanderbilt, per multiple sources.
According to the NCAA’s Sport Science Institute guidelines:
Fully vaccinated student-athletes and other Tier 1 individuals with no COVID-19-like symptoms may be exempt from routine testing. Student-athletes and other Tier 1 participants who are not vaccinated must continue to undergo testing at NCAA championships.”
I thought a vaccination is like
Giving you the virus in a sense? That’s why some feel sick right after getting the vaccine. So would that cause some to test positive for covid? Either way, if you want to play with flu symptoms shouldn’t you be allowed to? If you want to play with covid symptoms same deal right? I mean you might have zero symptoms.
On a lighter note, maybe the vandy Whistler is a doctor and ordered these covid tests.
Yeah it is kind of like that. The MRNA vaccine tricks your own cells to make a protein that is a marker of th virus. Your immune system learns to recognize it and produces antibodies to kill anything with that marker. The immune response is why you feel sick.
Most flus are significantly less deadly than covid. That said if you have the flu the decent thing to do is avoid people so you don’t make them sick.
How long do you hold something against someone? Does 25 years seem fair? That’s what Chauncey Billups is dealing with today. The Blazers front office wants him. Fans don’t, because of an accusation from 25 years ago. They are also bringing up the Brenda Tracey case as evidence Oregon sports teams have a bad track record. They say the Billups hire shows nothing has changed. You can’t make this up. These are the same people complaining about diversity and that not enough black coaches are being hired. For me, I believe in people growing and evolving. People can do terrible things and become better people, I truly believe that. I think this is a huge overreaction but was curious what others thought?
If you begin from a marxist position, you can hold anything against anyone for however long is required to tear down the entire society to make way for the revolution. SJW voices are just a glossed over version of marxists in our midst. US public education and universities have been teaching this garbage for about 50 years, and it has incrementally taken root in everyday life to the degree that people can’t see the value of choosing forgiveness over bitterness/judgment/hatred.
If I believe in second chances and someone changing over the course of their lifetime as you mention with Billups, I can agree that the human condition is flawed and we are all in need of forgiveness. second chances, with the possibility of great failure/evil or great joy/beauty.
Marxism/CRT/SJW all preach the idea that all things must be attacked for the sake of society. To them, past history is useful for subjugating and tearing down, because of this flaw present in all humanity and all human systems. Past history becomes a field of easy targets to criticize and destroy someone or society as a way to limit future objections. No one wants to be pointed at and all of their flaws paraded before society, this is the bullying factor of SJW/CRT/Marxist theology. I call it theology because it becomes its own type of religion and has its own defined tenets of beliefs that must be adhered to and voiced to the masses just as any other religion does.
A healthy society must value life, value personal property/thought, value freedom, value virtue in the citizenry.
MArxism wants to use history as a club to destroy these ideals in the people/culture in order to enslave the populace to its peculiar destructive religion.
We don’t have any Marxism going on in the US, though (and this is a good thing of course). That you think it exists is right wing propaganda/fear mongering being effective. SJW aren’t Marxists. They are just young people who want to affect the world because that’s what all young people want to do, and they want to get social media “cred” while doing it. They probably don’t even know what Marxism is. Right wing equivalents like “Libertarian” equally annoying and confused, and I used to identify as one of them fwiw. All of these ideologies suck. Golden rule, rationality, etc are the ways to go for behavior. Govt giving the free market cues has worked well, so that hybrid system is pretty ideal. People seem to not understand free markets very well because there’s this simpleton idea they know what’s best and solve all problems, but it couldn’t be further from the truth – in recessions and depressions the free market totally falls apart and becomes terrified to lose capital. They will move and invest if they get a government cue. They’re also not incentivized properly for every situation that needs doing. Way too complex to discuss here, but many examples of free market failing and being less efficient. Hybrid is best. We have it really good right now, and we’ll throw it away over our ungrateful nature and tendency to fall for propaganda.
Great post angry.
I constantly see people refer to the US as a capitalistic free market country but that is false. Yeah we lean that way but we have loads of socialist programs. There’s a reason fire departments used.to be called fire COMPANIES. Before it was standard to publicly fund them they were free market and competing businesses. The US military is the most expensive socialist entity in the world. Almost all governments are a hybrid socialist/capitalist system and that’s a good thing. There is things where government intervention is bad (see Venezuela) and places where free market is a disaster (see US healthcare).
Ohiobeav, I will agree that public universities have killed conservative voices but I also recognize the good they do. I feel like not enough people critically think about an issue and just look for evidence to support the belief they have. In my experience Universities challenge you to think critically. Granted they push looking only at the conservatives this way. But none the less they are teaching the tool. I feel like folks are staunch liberals out of school and the you’ll see them come back to center later in life.
Angry, I would agree that a “open market” in the US works that way. Other countries have open markets with limitations. Sweden is a great example of a hybrid model. They have a free market which will surprise folks. The problem with the US is our tax code. Politicians raise and lower this imaginary rate that really only affects the middle class. Giant corporations are able to use loop holes and write offs and play a much lower tax on more money. This isn’t a party problem, it’s a class problem. The rich on both sides of the aisle want to keep their money. Until people see this, the division will prevent change.
Sweden already went down the road we are heading long ago. Socialism doesn’t work and straight capitalism doesn’t either. The hybrid model is the future. Take a look at the quality of life for the middle class in Sweden. It’s growth correlates directly with Sweden’s GDP growth.
Every Country is going to have problems. If our biggest economic problem is tax code then that’s a pretty good situation.
Economies go through stages, and we’re a mature one, and therefore we pay taxes and give back to the poor. It’s just the evolution of this system. There’s a misconception that centralized economies don’t work, too, but Russia was a superpower and China has become a superpower on the backs of centrally planned economies. That can work, too, and in many regards it is more efficient. For example, take Bitcoin…decentralized, but super slow. Like 4 transactions per second. Centralized processing companies like Visa are 2k per second. Torrents: very slow to download compared to one file on one server. Centralization is faster.
This “best of both worlds” is why the US system is so ideal. When there’s disaster we can use the might of the government to get things done quickly. Free market can then follow the cues. Free market might do the same if left to its own, but it would take a lot longer. We’d have lost periods with no advancement. Hoover during the Depression is a good example of this. Compare Hoover to FDR and you see this all play out. The former was all of those talking points: austerity, bootstrap mentality, “free market will get us out/work hard!”, and it got us nowhere. Things actually got worse. FDR comes in and uses the might of the government to get things rolling, then private companies take that cue and run with it, and the economy begins to grow again and eventually it turns into an amazing boom. We’re still reaping the rewards from many of the things FDR had built. Government investment in the right sectors is extremely fruitful and has a 100+ year multiplier effect. Governments bailing out banks/Wall St doesn’t have the same effect, but it does stave off a lost decade (or two), so I get why they do it. If you remember after 2008, all markets stagnated until 2011 when QE was launched. The private sector got the memo that the government was going to backstop investment and risk taking. Same in 2020 with the Covid depression. We’d be in miserable times if relying totally on the private sector. It’s very important, but it works best (a) during good times when investment decisions are easy or (b) in bad times when taking cues from government. Free market is very weak in bad times with no government cue. If you look through our history objectively, this is true. Free market also fails with things like collateral damage (e.g. airlines. Regulation very good in areas of the economy where corps are willing to accept collateral damage but the public isn’t).
You can base an economic system on Russia and China if you prefer but it can’t be in a vacuum. Russia and CHina have both killed 10s of millions of their own citizens in the process. Neither country should be the model for economics.
Critical thinking is good, critical theory is destructive.
Critical tace Theory is a new version of old style critical theory that has marxist roots and is designed to destabilize society by muzzling open discussion and debate.
Critical theory is present in US universities as early as the 50’s and came out of Germany in the late 20’s early 30’s.
– “marxism isn’t present in the US” is left wing propaganda. Cancel culture is the US form of marxism and it will continue to manifest in differing ways as long as people refuse to see it. The effect of marxism is always division and destruction of society, morals, traditions, history, principles, economics
Cancel culture is the US form of marxism
Can you quote where Marx wrote anything about this? His quote; not some interpretation or opinion. I don’t recognize it as Marxist. Maybe I’m wrong and forgot that chapter.
If you want to be quite literal, of course he didn’t specify “I think the best way to address US society is to introduce something termed “Cancel culture” to disrupt kids in public spaces.”
I’m proposing the idea that the effect cancel culture has is very similar to the effect of silencing dissent seen in Mao’s CHina as he began to take control. Whether or not you see them as all from the same root, is on you, I do. I see a movement away from freedom and towards a controlled society, cancel culture is a current example of the trend. Marxist professors have been on faculty of nearly all universities, they are not simply educators, they are de facto idealogues, as are the founders of BLM by their own admission.
Okay, so this is your opinion that cancel culture is Marxism. In other words, it’s not Marxism. Let’s be honest: it’s young idealists who want what they perceive as a better world butting heads with people who want the world they know and grew up in. That’s what it is. They also like the attention on social media – the “cred.” It’s not Marxism. It’s more a psychological issue en masse. The Right does it, too, so that further breaks down the argument.
I think you’re misunderstanding what is going on at colleges. Conservatives are less open minded. Democrats are more open minded. There are many studies on this. So if you follow the logic through: if you have someone with an open mind in a college setting, then they’re going to consider Marxism more than a close-minded person is going to consider Marxism. But you’re insinuating it’s some conspiracy. This is all stuff I hear when I turn on Right leaning radio. Verbatim. Look at the known/studied traits of both political parties. A lot of things will make sense without having to resort to conspiracy.
I propose that there are about 4 types on campus among students not simply 2 sides:
1)christian conservatives–ridiculed until they capitulate/recant or silenced often-times
2)non-religious liberals- prepared to believe and speak what profs teach
3)leftists/marxists activists- despise USA and join leftist idealogical movements to establish how serious they are about various injustices
4) students who want to have a normal college experience and don’t care about any of these things but have to go through the system for 4 years to get their degree
To say that conservatives are not open minded begs the question, IS anyone open-minded on college campus these days? What are you basing this statement upon?
Conservative groups are being eliminated from campuses all over and only reinstated after filing lawsuits. Conservative speakers aren’t allowed to have on campus conferences, speak at grad ceremonies, etc and multiple events get over-run by leftist mobs once they are on the schedule. If you declare that it is the conservative voices who are closed-minded, I call your bluff. It is another generality based on media propaganda you propose doesn’t exist. Conservatives are a dwindling part of all faculty in universities. I see a difference between a classic “liberal” and a ‘leftist” professor though. A liberal prof may disagree but allow discussion and dissent on a certain topic to run its course. A leftist will not acknowledge dissent and shuts down opposition prior to any debate or discussion taking place. In my view and experience, leftists are and have been on campus faculty and are a great danger to a classical liberal education.
Because a conservative has clearly identifiable principles on specific subjects and tends to stand contrary to culturally accepted behavior, doesn’t mean conservatives are close-minded. Perhaps it means a conservative is courageous and principled in the midst of a tidal wave of pressure all around him/her.
I’m just here for Beaver sports, but when Nuc, Angry, Ohio, and Tango start spouting off about this stuff, I can’t help but think my “ignorance is bliss” lifestyle isn’t right. All of you, I 100% appreciate your ability to communicate your opinions on layman’s (sp?) terms. Keep it up. Please! It is literally changing my perspective in life. All from a free blog provide by Angry. Thank you!
Angry, your are a 100% right, there isn’t a perfect system. Instead of reinventing the wheel, we should look at what has worked. Yes China and Russia economies are solid no doubt but look at the quality of life, environmental impact, etc.
IMO Sweden’s economy is more mature than really any industrialized country. They were outpacing the US and Euro countries in the early 1900’s. They sat out two world wars which allowed them to have their economy running a lot longer than the US. A lot of their ideas make sense. Everyone pays their share regardless of what they make. The rich actually pay less there than here. However, because everyone poor, middle, and rich pay there is no incentive to stay poor. We have the opposite problem here. They do this all while being one of the most environmentally conscious countries. To me, the US should model should follow Sweden’s lead and not head down this progressive road that will lead to failure. They tried it and it doesn’t work. We need to go left but we are going left in the wrong areas.
Great article on the differences between the US and Sweden here: https://www.cato.org/policy-report/january/february-2020/swedens-lessons-america
Ohiobeav, I understand your fears and I hate seeing the cancel culture. However, I believe this will end as fast as it started. The problem is everyone is human and everyone has does something wrong in the past. Just like we are seeing, most of the people leading the callouts have done something themselves. Carlton Davis learned this lesson, Lebron, etc… it will work itself out because no one wants to live with judgement for past mistakes they learned from.
Tango, I will read that when I have a few. It looks pretty long. Looks interesting, though. Orwell was very in favor of that system, and he’s probably the most intelligent political commentator ever. I think what we have in the US is very good. Someone has to innovate globally, and to have a profit motive helps tremendously. It’s why there should be emphasis on private sector/free market, but it also has some major shortcomings that govt solves. My concern with changing that model in any way is we see less innovation, technology, etc.
There are always going to be bad actors (from “welfare queens” to corporate teat suckers), but a system shouldn’t be based around stopping them but rather around encouraging everyone to shoot for the top. This is done best via the profit motive.
I wasn’t saying China and Russia were good systems, BTW. I was simply saying that centralized power is more efficient, and thus you can build a global power by sheer might with that system. Many ways to skin a cat. Ours is the best way given our place in the global economy as the innovators, and it’s unfortunate many people don’t see that. Some lessons get learned the hard way.
You never have any solutions or suggestions to anything. You just stomp about how bad everyone else is. What is your solution to anything? What’s your platform? What policy do you think needs to be in place?
Identity politics and boogeymen are just pointless for problem solving, it’s just politics.
NuclearBeaver- Are you directing this at me?
I will begin with a philosophical question: Is the nature of man good or evil or in some way both?
If good, then reform him; if evil then cast out to be punished. Either/or is too simplistic though to fully answer: man was created “good”, but has since fallen to be also “evil”. So all of humanity is in a state of flux between both, having the capacity for genius and yet also the possibility of doing great harm to ourselves or others. Our tendency is to do things we know we shouldn’t, or to simply quit fighting and give in to temptations in whatever form they come at us.
God sees this issue in all of us, and loves us as His creation and therefore desires to free us from this contradiction of being. In order for Him to have a just process to forgive us and free us from this situation, Jesus became the mediator and propitiation on our behalf. What is happening at a personal level can impact a national level. This is my solution.
If you really want the answer to that, the biggest need for our country is a spiritual revival based on a biblical faith in Jesus Christ, confession of sin both personally and nationally as has happened at other times in the past 300 years in America.
Only genuine change of heart for the citizenry can bring unity from the division that is being purposely sown throughout the country. Love, kindness, generosity, forgiveness, virtue and humility.
What is your solution or do you not see a problem?
I contend that since mid 60’s our country has been in a spiral as the public notion and expectation of being a religious people has been abandoned. Abortion alone has been a great stain on our country. We have publicly funded, state sanctioned and purchased child murder. There is no way out of sure judgment from the hand of God apart from a true national revival.
Morality, economics, politics, military, sjw, crt, blm, antifa, culture wars, crime, divorce and broken families, drug epidemic, fake news, political parties- these are all symptoms of the greatest need for our society to have a real spiritual revival.
Now whether I expect it to happen, I’m not sure, but I know it needs to happen for the sake of the country’s future as a world leader. USA has no natural right to be the head of all nations, but we have a distinct difference from many nations in that there was a definitive Judeo-Christian foundation to the founding of America. This heritage has carried the US through many seasons but is not an inoculation from certain destruction once all restraints toward evil have been cast aside, which has been the case for several decades. Anyone standing and opposing the current of culture is ridiculed and mocked as so many prophets of the past.
It’s no great conspiracy. Religion lacks answers for some people as they are exposed to other possibilities. Nothing wrong with subscribing to any such dogma. If solace and answers for life’s woes and questions are not satisfactorily answered then it’s people’s right to look elsewhere if they have no faith in what they have been exposed to.
Religion has been around for a very long time and it is yet to solve all problems or answer all questions, nothing has. This country is expressly based on religious freedom so I don’t see how that can be the answer unless you wish for a religious revolution that is directly opposed to the founding tenants.
Infact it was the 50’s to 70’s when communism was used to inject religious ideals into the culture from changing the pledge of allegiance, clearing in god we trust as the national moto and adding it to the majority of our currency. Republican Teddy Roosevelt was famously quite opposed to the motto.
It has been argued many times they the bedrock of the United States founding was infact religious freedom and representative democracy.
At Nuc, disciples have to allow God to answer all questions. It’s very simple Trust in him, find your true self, and identify what really provides happiness. Not easy to follow though. More folks do need to turn to Jesus. The Holy family is a great role model. St. Joseph is a great study for all the men on this blog. He was selfless and did so much for Mary. Have a good weekend all.
All religions have great examples to follow from prophet to most humble soul. Personally I have studied most of the major religions in my own quest for answers and read translations of many holy texts. I basically came to the conclusion that all religions offer some fundamental truths that are common to all people. I’m an environmental humanist, boils down to don’t be a jackass, help people when you can and be a steward of the planet. Just FYI I was raised a strict Lutheran.
Who knows what’s right but it works well for me.
Nuc, it is nice to simply have dialogue rather than just tossing assumptions at each other. I’d rather live in a society of humble, considerate, golden rule type people but what is the direction of our culture as it departs further and further from that foundation?
You attest that all religions are basically the same, I would concur in the sense that all religions are centered on man’s effort to reform himself. Religions point to the mountaintop and say “there is your standard now go climb to achieve it”.
Jesus was quite counter-culture in his day and even rejected the religious leaders of his day. He was ‘anti-religion’ you might say. Jesus was actually inviting all people into a personal relationship of love and forgiveness that transports us to the mountaintop so to speak, he accomplished for us what we cannot do for ourselves, and delivers us.
“If you begin from a marxist position, you can hold anything against anyone for however long is required to tear down the entire society to make way for the revolution. SJW voices are just a glossed over version of marxists in our midst. US public education and universities have been teaching this garbage for about 50 years,…”
This asks others to overlook how long its presence has been in the US (~170 years) and in so doing, avoids the question of where this revolution is.
“You can base an economic system on Russia and China if you prefer but it can’t be in a vacuum.”
It’s precisely because things don’t exist in a vacuum, that neither Russia or China has run a communist economy in quite some time.
“Russia and CHina have both killed 10s of millions of their own citizens in the process.”
Many people died in Russia and China for lots of different reasons that have little to do with economic policies as related to their system of government during a particular time period. Why limit the focus to a century’s worth of history, when both countries have several thousand years worth (by comparison, we possess a few hundred)?
“to the effect of silencing dissent seen in Mao’s CHina as he began to take control.”
Mao struggled for a long time to gain control of China. There were several different wars that happened? We should probably keep when, where and why those happened, in mind.
“I see a movement away from freedom and towards a controlled society, cancel culture is a current example of the trend. ”
I have no problems finding conservatives voices to listen too. I can turn on the radio. I can read conservative-leaning magazines, which have been continuously published since the 1950’s. I can pay a subscription to authors’ substack, if they have one.
If I desire to worship with fellow like-minded Christians, I can turn on the television to any number of stations and participate in services. Or, on the Internet.
There are any number of traditional conservative colleges (e.g. Hillsdale, but there are countless others) I can readily apply too. I even have the convenience of taking accredited online courses from them if I so wish.
If I’m concerned with shrinking conservative coverage in the US (I’m not), I can look to publications in other countries instead.
“we have a distinct difference from many nations in that there was a definitive Judeo-Christian foundation to the founding of America.”
This statement is entirely a historical. The US also has such a significantly short history compared to many nations as well.
“God sees this issue in all of us, and loves us as His creation and therefore desires to free us from this contradiction of being. In order for Him to have a just process to forgive us and free us from this situation, Jesus became the mediator and propitiation on our behalf. What is happening at a personal level can impact a national level. This is my solution.
If you really want the answer to that, the biggest need for our country is a spiritual revival based on a biblical faith in Jesus Christ, confession of sin both personally and nationally as has happened at other times in the past 300 years in America.”
This solution excludes fellow Americans who practice different faiths than yours, and who have done so since coming to this country. It contradicts the very principles you propose a healthy society ought to have (e.g. the value thought, value freedom above).
I’ll only respond to your last comment:
In having a free society where religious freedom exists, it is obvious that many faiths are present and by their very nature somewhat exclusive to one another. As I have proposed, a Jesus based spiritual revival is the only type of revival that is necessary or beneficial. I am stating the distinction of the Christian faith from all other forms of religion, and in so declaring the only type of solution that can actually change a society for the better.
A Jesus based spiritual revival doesn’t condemn, destroy and take up arms against those who oppose or refuse as Marxism will and has, as communism will and has, but a true spiritual revival of the type I refer has changed entire countries and communities while allowing for the free will of individuals to reject its invitation.
Jesus said he did not come to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. “Might” is the key because he allows for men to reject and in their rejecting, they have decided for themselves, and are actually condemned already under their own sin. He is the only way of salvation and in this christianity declares itself to be separate from all other movements and religions. Jesus made many exclusive and declarative statements that present his exclusivity argument to us all. How any society or individual deals with these claims is at the heart of a spiritually healthy society or individual.
CHristianity can exist among other religions as representatives of another kingdom, and not destroy or weaken a culture, but rather become great citizens of that culture because of the love of Christ towards it inhabitants. CHristians are to be light and salt in society. A spiritual revival doesn’t diminish any of these things but only signals God’s presence in a culture and draws more people into this new kingdom of Christ.
For me personally after studying out all the different religions I noticed one marked difference between Christianity and others. Christianity is based on an actual event. Then I studied the evidence around the event and found the evidence to be factual enough to prove the event occurred. I’m a simple guy so I’ll put it this way, Jesus fulfilled predictions including his own which included being killed then raising from the dead. I figure if anyone can do that I should probably listen. And that is why I’m a Christian today.
With that said I know others will not choose to believe or even study the evidence. But that is their right to do so and as an US citizen I should not condemn them… and they should not condemn me.
The problem with Marxism is it encourages condemnation and especially of those who do believe.
The Chosen is a really good
Show. Anyone watched? Season two coming out soon.
I don’t have a dog in this fight but I think it’s an interesting discussion. I came across this when I was drinking my coffee this morning and it seemed applicable. I’ll probably fuck up the embedding but here goes.
https://youtu.be/VtTT8tAftec
Russell always has interesting takes on life now that he’s grown up a bit. Guys cadence is always attention grabbing haha
The US’s rise to global power has always required exploiting and demonizing the Other (indigenous peoples, slavery, the unwashed masses, Nazi Germany, Communism). Its death knell will be when that instinct is focused inwardly. I’m afraid we’re beginning to see this as the development of society has isolated us from each other and turned our neighbors into the Other.
The national narrative started to break down during the Bush years when, after the fall of USSR and the .com bubble, the Bush administration tried to position “terrorism” as the new national enemy for the country to rally around. This was always doomed to fail because there was not a concrete manifestation of the idea of “terrorism” the way there was with “Communism” in the USSR. Since then, we’ve made enemies of our neighbors at an accelerating rate.
One symptom of this, and where I agree with ohiobeav, is that we’re suffering from a breakdown in the ability to forgive others and move on. Part of this is the movement away from a religion that places forgiveness at its center, part of it is that technology has made it so easy to see everyone’s flaws and mistakes and provides infinite opportunities to condemn others whenever we feel like it.
It’s a big challenge to any culture when you stray from roots. A huge challenge for the western world is that our roots and source of ceremony is based in Christianity for the last 1800 years or so. The void is less difficult to replace in European countries where there is direct links to national roots going back thousands of years. In the States we are a hodge podge of all sorts of stuff with no real common thread except a nation that isn’t even 250 years old. In terms of roots thats a blip.
It will be interesting to see how the next 50 years go If I am lucky enough to live that long.
So the next four star commit must be dunmore. Not sure how good of a get he is based on he is looming for his third home and didn’t put up at stats at his previous 2 based on what I read. Not to be a downer but I was hoping for a different position, one where there is more of a need. Sure, a plethora of wide receivers is great.
What makes you say that?
His Twitter profile has pictures from
His official visit as his banner deal
Or whatever it’s called at the top. Don’t see this usually unless it’s some unknown player who is local and/or unlikely to ever play D1 but wants to show off a bit (I don’t blame them for doing so). If you saw his page you’d think he is on the team. I could be wrong.
Gotcha Nemec said to watch him because he has to enroll soon to be there for summer workouts and he wouldn’t be taking the visit if it wasn’t serious. Would be a huge get but I agree I do wish it was safety or DT. The receiver room would be pretty stacked if he came and I think he would maybe be the highest rated recruit out of high school on the team.
I guess he’s like a 94.5 or something I thought he was around 97-98.
Scouting report out of HS was that he’s a burner with good skills, but small frame. The story around transferring from PSU was just that he wanted to be closer to home (as of Fall 2020). Committed to FAU, but now he’s looking elsewhere.
I’m pretty sure he hasn’t actually suited up anywhere but penn st
Correct. He was committed to FAU after deciding he needed to be closer to home (likely due to COVID) and now he’s looking elsewhere.
Andy Jenkins joins UW in a paid position as hitting coach. In the understatement of the year (?) he says:
“I know Oregon State fans have an opinion on Coach Meggs,”
WWPCS?
https://www.kerryeggers.com/stories/ex-beaver-standout-coach-andy-jenkins-back-in-pac-12-with-the-washington-huskies
I guess I can’t begrudge Jenkins a paying job, but geez did it have to be Meggs and Washington?
We have a Dam Right tweet from Niner!
Carlos Mack.
https://247sports.com/Player/Carlos-Mack-46094851/
Hes a safety so position of need. Coaches must have liked what they saw. Offer sheet is minimal and measurables are alright.
https://247sports.com/Player/Carlos-Mack-46094851/
This should be a pretty large class so getting some depth prospects isn’t a bad thing.
Are we excited about this?
Not sure. Offer sheet is 3 schools I think. Don’t know a ton about him.
It moves us a tiny bit past UW so thats kinda fun!
Article about Mack. I get downvotes for asking a question… love the passion!! Smith has made some questionable coaching decisions. Can’t deny though he will build this program the right way and is genuine to players and staff. He won’t burn any bridges.
https://247sports.com/Article/Carlos-Mack-Oregon-State-football-recruiting-football-commitment–167091564/
Looks like Mack’s HS coach is Cory Hall, former OSU coach. Wonder if he’s friendly with the staff? Should know a good DB when he sees one.
Any update on Quincy Wright? He’s a key DT that we need for our class and I haven’t seen much about him since he visited us. He did recently receive an offer from Kansas but idk if that will do anything.
Angry or Nuclear. Can you add to the list above who has committed or who hasn’t? Just curious how much we have gained on the DL and OL.
Here’s what I know of. I’m not a mod so can’t edit the top. Only addition to the team on the DL is Keonte Schad (transfer). OL we got a big center with Dylan Lopez.
Keith Olson – OL (Not committed), Multiple crystal high probability balls for us)
Lorenzell Dubose – CB (Not committed)
Zeke Berry – CB (Not committed)
Sterling Lane II – DE (Not committed)
Mathias Malaki-Donaldson – DE/OLB (Not committed, had lots of positive tweets about visit)
Lance Holtzclaw – DE/OLB (Not committed, soft crystal ball for BC from 1 source. Just finished 5th visit)
Colston Loveland – TE (Not committed, 3 high prob for Michigan)
Ian Massey – JUCO S (Committed to Beavs)
Next weekend:
Roger Carreon – OL (Committed BSU)
Mason Graham – DL (Not committed, we are only visit)
Audavion Collins – CB (Not committed)
Carlos Mack – DB (Committed to Beavs)
Thanks Nuc
G/C Dylan Lopez is the only OL/DL commit so far.
Got a Dam right alert
It’s Skyler Thomas, 6’2 3-star CB with offers from Cal and UNLV.
Seems close to Jeremiah Earby, another 6’2 DB/ATH type with Cal, Fresno, CSU, and Air Force offers (and an existing crystal ball prediction for OSU).
Any chance they offered Thomas hoping it would be a package deal?
Thomas is a late class of 2021 addition, fyi.
Works is busy today so i’m not going to be online much until later
We’re either of those the guy you were talking about committing earlier?
Nope. He hadnt even been offered by OSU at that point
Skyler Thomas remarks on visit:
“I’d never been to Oregon before, so it was a very different experience,” Thomas said “Corvallis is a college town. It’s nice. It’s quiet. It was a great visit, seeing something new. I’m from California. It’s loud and there’s always something going on. It was quiet, nice and beautiful.”
He also remarked he fit the program goals for tall, rangy corners.
Mama and Huffman have put balls on Earby today too, btw.
He’s the 6’1″ CB who visited this past weekend.
Also not the 4* I was hinting at.
Earby is not a four star though? Or even close according to 247? Maybe I’m misunderstanding your post.
Last week when we landed Lopez, I had hinted that there is another 4* who is committed but hasnt announced. Since then, Mack/Thomas and soon Earby will announce. Just saying that none of those guys are the one I was hinting at. Some guy on twitter cant seem to grasp that.
Hopefully we hear the news soon.
I’ll bet Angry’s potato garden it’s Dunmore. Which the points made on here, I am more excited about than my initial feeling. Wish it was d line or even secondary but would be a great addition.
Anyone have a 2 deep idea for secondary?
Cb 1: Wright
Cb 2: Austin?
Safety1: Grant
safety 2: ?
I would say the other safety position would be Oladipo, Julian or Arnold and depends on if they’re in nickel. CB probably the Kansas transfer, Forrest, and then probably Robinson or Russell. Irish would be a wild card. Maybe hardge can make a push at safety.
Have another safety that sat out last season. Johnathan Riley? Not sure I got the name right. Seems like we’ve got quite a few back there…at least from a bodies perspective.
Riley is out with a acl surgery.
The transfer from Kansas, Elijah Jones seems like a potential starter.
I dont think it’s been mentioned anywhere, but we had a LB/RB out of the state of Utah on visit this past weekend too. Kord Shaw, also received an offer while on his visit. OSU seems to be very interested in him. I’m keeping an eye on him for sure.
I think the Beavs see him more as a defense guy, but he’s a versatile athlete.
https://www.hudl.com/profile/9676460/Kord-Shaw
Funny, i’ve had this kid on notify because I thought he might be receiving an offer soon, but instead he tweeted his commitment. Also not the kid i was talking about last week.
https://twitter.com/JosiahJ03/status/1409634441085943813?s=19
Looks like the offer came back on June 10th amd I just never turned off hos notifications. I dont know much about him, but looks like another class of 2021 addition.
Can’t find anything in this guy. Can you share offer sheet details when you have a minute?
Thanks for everything NB!
Don’t think there was a ton out there tbh. Helps to have some more bodies though regardless. Really would like to see some DL commits. Lost 2 and got 1 via xfer…was already a thin position.
There’s not much info on him out there. His HUDL links are in his profile, and he’s a PWO for class of 2021. Lots of DBs being picked up this week.
PWO makes sense, thanks!
Hopefully some of these DBs can play d line. Might be running a 2 man line and 10 lb’s and db’s. Lol. All seriousness though, glad to see some of these commitments come through from the in person visits, regardless if some don’t have the best offer sheets.
Wait, 2 DL + 10 secondary/lb=12 d players on the field
This may be the key to Beav defensive success!
Math wasn’t my major. Lol. Good catch!
Was thinking we might be getting close to our scholarship cap, but then got to thinking, I wonder if Sam Noyer or Schad will count agains the 85 cap?
I believe both would be “super” seniors and because of Covid, they’re getting that extra non-counting year. Has anybody read up on that about wither guy? Curious how it will affect OSU
Elijah Jones looks like a potential super senior too. Now i need to find out if we’re collecting a bunch of transfers that wont count towards that 85 cap. Could mean we have more room than I thought
Got an answer, they do count against the cap.
Makes sense, you dont want an Alabama or Clemson grabbing 40 extra non counting seniors and not leaving transfers for other teams to pick up
@JosiahJohnson is on tweeter as committed.
Mentioned above.
So we picked up Skyler Thomas and Josiah Johnson today?
So far….day ain’t over, yet.
Both are class of 2021, and Johnson is PWO
Ready to see who this 4 star is.
Dunmore?
Are you guys rooting for vandy and against miss. St. Cuz they’re terrible fan base? Don’t care much for either team but grew to hate miss. St. After our CWS against them.
Sounds like Jeremiah Earby is a Beav.
Smith has been the best recruiter in some time. Remember when we were told Riley’s 2-star under a rock guys were the best we could do?
Seems like they’re just a few legitimate D lineman away, (plus building depth there) from fielding a consistently competitive team that can achieve a winning record. QB position and depth looks great, RB and depth appear very solid, offensive line could be one of the top line units in the PAC, decent WRs, lots of effective LBs….getting some 6’2″-ish CBs….
How bad is the heat? Sucks that everyone’s reaction is to run energy/AC that just adds more heat.
The good news is it pulled forward our tomatoes. First cherry tomato came in today. We have beefsteak and marzanos that are growing well but not yet fruiting.
We’ve at least hit the peak for this wave and are on the downside. In Portland it reached 111 yesterday and either 114 or 115 today, depending on where you look. I think the overnight low last night was still around 87 but tonight will get back down into the 70s.
My parents just bought central air for their house 2 years ago and it crapped out on them right as the heat wave started. Same with a coworker.
Crazy thing is we still have a streak of 90+ degrees ahead of us with no end in sight, but they’ll seem mild compared to the last couple of days. Normally it’s 50/50 if you’d have sun or rain this time of year around here.
Cool breeze rolled in this afternoon and it’s pleasant in the south valley. It was unbearable the last two days.
Heat wave was brutal
3rd dam right of the day! Anyone know who that is?
I didn’t/don’t see it?
My bad. The notification was just delayed on my phone for Johnson.
I don’t know much about the DL coach, but at what point do you consider that maybe your difficulty recruiting DL’s is because they don’t see themselves meshing with him?
Cav, is that you?
Definitely miss having a good poly pipeline.
Noble Thomas, a CB who visited OSU in early June, announces his decision tomorrow. I dont think OSU will be his team. Most likely going to Iowa State, aling with a friend who is also announcing tomorrrow, Jeremiah Cooper.
Good call. ISU it is.
Thought this was a nice summary of what returns from last season from the Athletic:
Category; % Returning; Top Returner
Pass Yds 100% Gebbia, 824
Rush Yds 35% Baylor, 124
Rec Yds 80% Bradford, 239
OL starts 100% Five with 7
Tackles 82% Roberts, 69
TFLs 84% Speights, 4.5
Sacks 86% Oladapo, 2
Ints 60% Grant, 2
Nemec saying Dunmore may go with the Beavs but he’s not the next domino to fall. Interesting.
Like Angry mentioned yeaterday, keep an eye on Earby for tue next most likely announcement.
I’m working on a recap post to help keep track of where we stand with recruiting and roster changes. Will post it later
Got the Bat signal from Niner. Commitment on the way.
Could be Earby, Vincic, Dunmore…anyone else that seems like a lean?
Looks like Jacob Stand is first today, the gut bomb from last week.
Nice call. Has good size and Coach M is good at his job. Nice to see some more beef for the o line regardless of offer sheet.
I’m not a scout, but this seems like a project. They must like the size and the frame.
Have you ever heard of Mike Remmers?
After looking at video when you mentioned him I have this guy as the most under rated player on our list. He’s rated on 247 as a 82 at 6’5 240 lb. On Twitter he’s 6’5 270 lb and looks it on senior video. He could play on either side of the ball, tenacious pursuit on defense, pretty nasty blocker on offense. He also plays basketball, athletic guy. Idk if he’s much better than an 82 but I’m much more excited about the addition than I should be with an 82!
Seems like that’s the route we take quite a bit with the o line is project guys. Have good frames/technique but not ready from a size and strength perspective. While the offers might not be there, it’s a good sign that we’re getting the instate recruits again.
That’s totally fine. OL/DL recruiting is a numbers game. Find guys you like and bring in lots of them so that at least some will pan out.
Easy to add weight/transform his body some and redshirt him. Another multi sport athlete.
Very few 18 year olds with D1 size for OL. You either take a kid with a good frame and hope they fill out or you take a day kid and hope they lean up and add strength. Cause anyone with the size and athleticism to play out of HS is 4+ stars and likely not coming to OSU… at least not in droves.
If his Twitter is accurate he’s not that small. 6’5 270 lbs is a decent size. Even better with a redshirt year.
Probably a good time for a little recap on where we stand with transfers and 2021 guys we’ve signed since the December signing day.
Help me out with reviewing this list and correct me where I missing on somebody. I’m mostly going off memory. Will update this post with the missing names.

Let me know if you think I should be keeping a closer eye on any other guys.
I’ll add them to the list or let you know why I’m not seeing it as going OSU’s way.
I didn’t realize how many actually left. Could add Hamilcar to that list unless I missed his name.
Didnt out him in that list since he was a senior and was due to leave anyway. I guess technically he coupd have come back, but we all knew he was gone.
Just curious: what makes you say that? I thought he was a slam dunk to return after his terrible 2020 season, and was very surprised when he declared. A bounce-back year to prove that 2020 was a fluke would have had a huge impact on his draft stock.
He was in every mock draft, so I figured most people were pretty confident he was leaving
Thanks NB. With powers likely going to FSU, does that hurt the chances for Wright to commit? Donaldson would be a huge get.
I still think we’re in it for Wright. Powers and another teammate from Duncanville are likely going to FSU, but Wright isnt part of that group.
What about Lorrenzell Dubose? Are we still in it for him?
I was on the fence with him. Really not sure, but with all of the new CB additions, it doesnt seem like a huge position of need in this class anymore.
He is the highest rated and has the best offer sheet for whatever that’s worth.
Sooooo….who’s that 4 star?
Not listed with the class of 2022
zona baseball players are leaving in droves
We could use a few bats…
12 of them have hit the xfer portal already the last 24 hrs. Ouch. Kendall Rodgers seems to think more could follow. AZ gonna be hurting for a bit having to replace that many bodies.
They’re all getting into the portal before the July 1st deadline, so they wont lose a year of eligibility if they end up actually leaving the team.
Kendall thinks it’s likely that deadline gets extended for baseball. But why take the chance?
right? no harm in entering the portal and would be understandable from the new staff’s perspective. and then they can decide later if they’ll stick around when the new coach is hired.
Glad we didn’t hire Yeskie.
Why’s that?
Because of the rough shape UofA is in
Ben Holmes (Wetzler) disagrees, tweets this in response to @AggieBaseball referring to Nate as, “One of the nation’s best is joining us here in Aggieland”
Ben says, “Let me correct you @AggieBaseball **The Nation’s best!”
https://twitter.com/benwetzler28
He has a love affair with NY. He’s the only former player I’ve seen jock so hard for the guy though.
This has to weaken the ‘cats, right? Loss of HC, PC, and players.
Does this make Canham’s job easier or should expectations now be even higher?
…is that possible..(even higher).
Gonna be a big blow to the program IMO. 12 players already in portal in 24 hrs plus the coaching staff changes. I think both of your comments on Canham are correct…you’d think UA would have a hard time competing over the next year or 2 at the top level losing so many players and coaches. Should be a team we beat if they truly do lose out on all those players in portal and potentially the recruits as well.
Hey NB how many scholies are available for 2022 class?
It’s always a squishy number because we won’t know how many players will leave and open more scholarship spots.
I’m guessing it will be upwards around 20 total by signing day.
I also had a source tell me they’ve got a couple of scholarships in their back pocket for any surprise transfers that could become available. That’s been the trend under Smith, so no matter how many spots they have open, I don’t expect them to use every last one of them unless some must get transfers or recruits fall into their lap.
Yeah I came up with 22-25 when I tried so 20 in the class sounds snug to me.
Looks like john dunmore is officially a beav although he hasn’t announced it on Twitter yet . His insta bio says “Wide Receiver at @beaverfootball”
what’s his instagram handle? i don’t use that app much
jdlive_
Good eye. I dont think anything can be considered official until all of the transfer red-tape is clesred up. But you can see the intent is there.
And an edit needs to be made, haha.
Losing our graphics guy last week slowed things down a little.
Not in the directory yet at the least.
Nemec did a quick article. Says he thinks commitment is soon coming. Not exactly earth shattering reporting but if he wrote an article about it, you’d think it would be pretty much a lock.
Like deron williams? Lol
Susac staying put at UA. Kind of surprised he didn’t xfer out with Yeskie but I guess he likes Tucson enough to stay.
Couple of updates. I added TEs Jacob Newell and Cody Walk to my “watching” list.
Walk visited last weekend and was offered by OSU, similar to Kord Shaw. Just wasnt reported anywhere.
Also, this afternoon I retweeted that 3* Notre Dame DE Devin Aupiu was in the portal. The reason I posted about him is because the “beaverfootball” instagram account is the account he most recently followed today. And we offered him out of HS.
I need to “walk” this back a bit. Cody doesnt have a commitable offer yet, but think of him as a contingency plan if things dont work out with some of the TEs we’ve been focused on in this class(Loveland, Otton, Velling, etc)
And I dont feel good about Loveland or Otton, so that list is shortening.
I should also walk back the Devin Aupiu info a bit. Instagram switched up their display methods and they show common accounts first when you view who someone follows. So both Aupiu and I follow Beaverfootball, bit that doesnt mean that this was his most recent follow. Could have been back from when we recruited him originally out of HS.
I hate when these sites update their formatting
NB – thanks as always for the guy bombs and nuggets. Any thoughts on Mason Graham? Any insight as to how how OV went recently?
If we do land Wright, I don’t know what that means for Graham. I think they’d still take him regardless, but Graham may not want to be the 2nd DT in a class. Although Graham is a 2 way guy, so it could still work out. Don’t count him out, by any means. Sounds like the visit went well
Overman has been in his ear too. I like that graham is a two sport athlete with wrestler being the other. Gotta love that willingness to be physical on the line.
Two sport athlete = good
Wrestling = leverage = very good
IN a perfect world our system would have DE’s at 290-320 lb 6’2-6’6 and DT 315-350 lb at 6′-6’3. These guys can find a place on the 3 man front if they have the goods. We need the frames.
Fwiw, Quincy Wright has been “liking” and retweeting several OSU related tweets in the last 24 hours, including a few from the Beavrecruiting account(which was how i noticed)
I dont know his timeline for an announcement, but when guys do this sort of thing, it has often led to good news for OSU in the near future.
I know Powers is announcing on Friday(but not for OSU) Could be that Wright is preparring for the same?
His dad is pretty active with OSU stuff too.
Think it’s worthy of a gut bomb, Qunicy Wright to OSU.
Should happen this week
Is that from a breakfast burrito? Bacon or sausage? :)
Always sausage if we’re putting it in a burrito.
Don’t think I’ve ever tried a bacon burrito?
I prefer sausage too. If you’re ever going up and down SE 82nd, Don Pedro’s has a drive thru and has great breakfast burritos, in both sausage and bacon.
Chorizo or GTFO.
That would be massive. We need a 280+ DL frosh in every class to avoid depth issues at DT. If we get too many all the better, put the tall ones at DE and watch the havoc.
Wright has himself listed as 6’5 300lb on Twitter which is just a massive frame.
On the transfer portal front. Pretty sure we can count Devin Aupiu out. A couple of other guys we’re feeling out are Tennessee DT Greg Emmerson, and Illinois DT Tre’von Riggins.
It’a still very early in the process for both, but encouraging to see we are still pursuing DT depth via the portal.
Another guy I haven’t heard much about lately is Jay Hardy, the Auburn DT transfer. If you had asked me a month ago, I would have thought he’d end up at Arizona State. But now that ASU has been dragged through the media over recruiting violations, I could see them no longer being an atteactive destination.
And OSU was said to have been making a strong push for him last month. I havent had any updates, but wouldnt surprise me to see his name pop up again.
Talked to somebody regarding Mason Graham. We like him more on Defense than offense, so could be that us picking up Wright potentially this week could impact what he does. Was told that he likes it here, but that something is holding him back from pulling the trigger with OSU.
He is interested in playing for a P5 team, and we’re his only current P5 offer, so there is that.
Anyway, it’s not over with him, but I don’t get the sense that we’re any better than 50/50 with him at this point.
Awesome NB, thank you! Glad to hear the staff are still pursuing DE/DT prospects via the portal and prep ranks. I didn’t realize Graham was an OL prospect for some.
I’m glad to check in for the first time today and find a conversation about sausage.
Dunmore has committed
https://twitter.com/jdsunn/status/1410321510011748353?s=19
Dang, I was writing my own comment and you bear me to it. Lol
That’s 5 former 4 star receivers on the team now if you count Beason who was a 4 star on some sites or at least 1 point.
I think Tyjon was actually a former 5* recruit at one point, fwiw
Gotta go with the air raid. Lol
I like that they’ve addressed their lack of size with their WRs lately.
Beason, Dunmore, Harrison, Tongue, Valsin are all 6′ or taller.
Still have Lindsey, Bradford and Champ for those smaller speed guys.
It’s alot of talent which we haven’t had as a group in quite awhile
Bradford is listed at 6’0″, 185 – FYI. Might be inflated but same listed height as Beason.
If the practice reports are to be believed, Silas Bolden would be worth mentioning in the group of smaller speed guys. Hopefully he can protect the ball better than his big brother.
Dunmore just announced commitment to Beavs.
It’s nice to see the Beavs get some recruiting momentum after such a slow start. Outside of of Lopez the ratings and offer sheets haven’t been great. I trust coach M can find, evaluate, and develop under the radar talent but the jury is still out on Adam’s. Hopefully he’ll prove that he can do the same. I like his attitude and philosophy from what I’ve heard.
Are Dunmore and the rest of the transfers all eligible to play in 2021? Is that pretty much a blanket allowance due to the weird 2020 covid season?
Our WR group is pretty interesting now. I think we’ll be better in 2022 when a lot of these players have had more time to develop and learn the playbook. Who would you guess would be the top 3 vs Purdue?
My guess would be Beason/Harrison/Bradford. Really hope Flemings isn’t a starter.
Agree tongue hasn’t been healthy so hasn’t practiced and Dunmore will be behind on the playbook. Flemings is too small to be anything other than a gadget player. I think we’ll see some lindsay if he just catches the ball. Hopefully they can average more than the weak 6.5 yds a pass or whatever it was last year. It will be hard for anyone to put up big numbers with so much depth at WR and TE.
Need someone with speed to take the top off the defense.
Flemings can’t be a starter anymore. His only legit role is maybe kick returns.
Oh yah, its Larry Scotts last day of grifting the Pac12. So long asshole.
Security better watch him. He seems like a prime candidate to steal stuff from the uber-fancy office on his way out.
Yeah like the company credit card and jet.
So was Dunmore the 4 star that was hinted? And is the 4 star one that we know of for the 2022 class? Sorry if this has been asked already
I was about to ask nicebeav the same thing. It would be cool if it wasn’t because that would mean another is on the way.
I know of 2 other class of 2022 commitments that are due to happen, but I.dont know the specific timelime. This stretching out of announcements over several days seems to be deliberate, rather than announcing everything at once.
Yes, Dunmore has been comitted since before his visit. Just took awhile to get the message out
Angry you are lucky. You almost lost your potato garden.
Rooting for Miss St., just because I’m so sick of the Vanderbilt whistler.
Same here
Same here as well.
Something about “Vandy Boys” that bugs me.
Miss St playing D like the Beavs, Vandy Boys…….not so much!
Is the Vandy whistler anything like Duck baseball Jesus from a few years back? That dude was eerie in his white robe thingy behind home plate during that civil war game. I wonder if the Quacks put him there as a distraction?
Baseball lands a commit today. Jacob Krieg. Looks like an infielder from California.
Can he play DT?
The NIL era is here. Athletes on the east coast are already announcing sponsorship deals as midnight has passed. Nebraska has restaurant food chain offering some blanket endoresement to the first 100 athletes that sign up. Will he intersting to see just how much winning at college sports is worth to those who will pony up to pay athletes. I’d imagining as the sport becomes less and less competitive, the popularity will drop off and the money will drop off along with it.
But those getting in now probably have the best chance to cash in. Hope Nvidia and Panda Express are big OSU sports fans
Max Borghi, WSU RB: “I am extremely excited to maximize on my Name, Image and Likeness goals at Washington State! Please feel free to contact me in regards to any business opportunities! Go Cougs!!”
What Beavers might stand the best chance to profit from NIL?
Will player behavior, including personal conduct, be a factor? Seems like it would.
Will this cause issues affecting the culture? A whole new element for the coaches to have to babysit. Being an 18 year old student athlete just got a lot more challenging. “Can’t make it to class, got a photo shoot for the tanning salon.”
Definitely that potential. Having a star making bank and a bunch of have nots could turn toxic real quick. Humble hard working lunch pale stars are that much more important… though not like they weren’t before. In fact when you look back at the Riley era all his successful teams had great leadership.
Man tough to know on the Beavers. I mean Gebbia is the obvious choice as QB is the most visible. Noyer is probably worth a flyer if you can get him repping your product for cheap on the off chance he wins the job. WR/RB and tackle leaders on D probably get something. I’m thinking all the companies that advertise on 1240AM might be interested in adding a player to their adverts.
I think Speights and Roberts are the most obvious candidates right now. Great players, tackle leaders, anchor of the defense.
Some of the OL may deserve it, but that’s not a very glamorous position.
Whoever wins the QB job would be a candidate for sure, RB too if a clear starter emerges. Maybe Beason? Or one of the WR transfers if they hit?
On defense, lots of players that have the potential to break out, but probably not a lot of preseason potential. Maybe Wright can leverage his swagger and his brother’s NFL run?
Speaking of transfers, will this be a selling point to get players in the portal?
Absolutely. We have business x ready to give you blank dollar deal if you transfer in.
Yeah I don’t get how you police this. Like if a guy is worth 1k to film a commercial and the business is a big backer of the team and decides to just pay the kid 10k wouldn’t 9k of that be an impermissible benefit? Seems like it is going to create all kinds of sticky situations
I think Jade Carey from the gymnastics team is in a great position regarding NIL. Just made it onto Team USA. Now she can cash in
Does the Olympics still require gymnasts to be amateurs?
The changed those rules in 2019. Athletes can have sponsors now, but be able to cross brand as “Team USA” athletes. Sounds similar to the NIL rules actually.
Gross
I’ve been saying this since 2011 or so, but this is going to be the nail in the coffin for college football. We’re now managed to ruin the three best sports (MLB, NFL, and NCAAF).
I think it’s just going to accelerate what was already happening: further stratification of the haves and have nots.
Yes, but that’s the end of NCAAF.
Curious- what do you think has ruined the NFL? I share your concerns about NCAAF and don’t know much about MLB but I really enjoy the NFL.
Yeah I too am enjoying the NFL as much as ever. The only real argument against the game I have heard is too much SJW and Tebow stuff. But all you got to do is turn the game on at 10:05 and turn it off when it is over. Not that complicated if you just want to watch sports you can just watch sports.
NFL is in the best shape of the three. But for me the kickoff rule changes and all the rule changes that made playing defense impossible have ruined the game.
In a way, fantasy football has ruined the NFL as well. People wind up rooting against their real life teams (i.e. because of fantasy conflicts of interest).
I’ve never heard of anyone rooting against their team for fantasy football reasons.
It’s super common.
Yeah definitely going to create more have/have nots but these kids should be able to make some cash if they have a brand that currently the school and NCAA are milking.
How many kids at OSU would make money?
I’d seriously consider paying some of the lesser know athletes at OSU to endorse my business. I wouldn’t pay the money sports though, I’m thinking I’d throw my money at the women’s sport WBB or softball. Can I ask a player when they are in my store or is that still a violation?
I could see some of the WBB that layers having a bit of marketing potential depending on the business.
Will student athletes be able to have agents to maximize and manage their NIL opportunities?
Per the state laws like in oregon, yes. But i dont nkow what the NCAA has decided on this
Time for AB to crowd source a spokesperson …
Statement from EA on the 2023 NCAA football game. It’s likely all college players will get some price but I’m sure it will be tiered in some fashion. Will be an advantage for P5.
https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/ea-sports-ncaa-football-video-game-nil-college/
Jarod Lucas just made OSU history by selling an autographed HS jersey on Ebay.
…it’s 2021 and I just typed that.
The Beavrecruiting Venmo account just received it’s first NIL Payment from a superfan. It’s a new era…
can’t tell if it’s a twitter follower or an angrybeaver (or both), but if it’s one of you, thanks!
What makes it an NIL payment? The fact that the account is based on a college team?
It’s not NIL really, I just called it that because I started up a Venmo account to cash in on the NIL era.
In fact, OSU will probably ask me to get rid of my Benny Beaver logo now, if I don’t give them a cut.
If anybody on the coaching staff is reading this, I keep my venmo account private. Feel free to send some of your bonus check $$ this way. It will be our little secret… ;)
Purely hypothetical: couldn’t you pay a recruit to endorse the Beavrecruiting account?
Screw that, they can pay me to promote their products and autograph signing sessions. I’m an influencer baby
Just thinking, if Nike were to start steering multiple star athletes to Oregon and only a handful of other Nike schools, why wouldn’t every other Nike school say F you to Nike and drop their apparel deals? Seems like this NIL stuff could cut both ways for the Nike/Adidas/UnderArmor brands if they don’t have some balance. Same could happen with other national brands. Say Burgerville decides to back duck football players only. They’d risk having every Oregon State fan boycott Burgerville. Is that worth it?
Places like Nebraska, where the school is the only big player locally, have better opportunities for local endorsements. Backing a Husker athlete isn’t going to piss off Creighton fans the way backing a duck player will piss off OSU fans, if that makes sense.
Burgerville was started by an OSU CE grad. But screw that place, they gave me a raw burger then acted like dicks when I asked for a cooked burger. Like I was being some picky ass customer for wanting a burger cooked.
You sure do hold grudges huh.
Right, if it were better I’d probably go back but I’ve always thought it was a bit overpriced for what you get so kind of the straw that broke the camels back more than anything.
Yeah but the milkshakes are pretty good.
Sweet onion rings are good too
And that Burgerville spread special sauce…
The sauce is good and no chance of getting raw sauce.
The easy way to get around that would be to just make sure you feature both a Duck and a Beaver at the same time.
In a dual announcement today, Nike has announced they endorsed 5* Running Back, Reggie Bush Jr, at the University of Oregon, as well as 0* paraplegic kicker, Johnny Legless, at Oregon State University.
Johnny Legless would be a social media god and you know it
How is his film?
It’s short
Can he play DT?
Thanks, you made me laugh out loud at my office desk.
So can we pay a player to be the AB inside source for each sports teams?
Time was you could find someone cool like Keith Kostol to do it for free!
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-payton-years/id1536831436?i=1000527297761
Gp2 interview
Nemec was on the radio this afternoon and mentioned OSU could pick up “2 or 3 more guys in the next couple of days”
I’m pretty confident of 2 of them, but not sure who that “or 3” would be. Also sounds like #3 is less certain, the way he put it.
Ok, I know who #3 is now, but it’s the least certain of the 3 for sure. I dont particularly like our chances, but you never know till things are announced
I should also mention, none of the 3 are a slam dunk, apparently. So this could go in a number of directions.
All I want for July is a DT.
Well let’s hope for the best. Any of them higher rated?
Pretty normal OSU guys. And I know #3 is off the board now. And he was who I would say was the highest of the 3.
Thanks for wasting my time, Nemec
Thanks for taking the bullet lol
@NiceBeav: are all the incoming transfers eligible to play this year? If so is that a permanent rule change or an exception due to the weird covid season?
My understanding is yes, they’re all eligible to play for us immediately.
This year, the cutoff was players had to submit their paperwork for entering the portal before today, July 1st. (Also means there could be a few guys who just submitted but wont hit the portal for a day or 2 as things get processed.)
Going forward, I’ve read that the same rule will be in effect, except players need to enter the portal by May 1st. And it’s a 1-time per player deal. Any player can use the waiver once, but they cant use it again later in their career. So that seems to effectively do away with the grad transfer rule going forward. If you transfer a 2nd time, you’ll have to sit, unless the NCAA arbitrarily gives a 2nd waiver based on curcumstances.
Earby’a rating on 247 has been bumped from 81 to 87 by Huffman. Great to see that especially with the crystal balls to OSU in his profile as well.
Earby’s*
He got real good overnight. Grew 5 inches, put on 20lbs and dropped his 40 time .30 seconds.
I’m starting to wonder how many other schools follow OSU recruiting. We unearth alot of recruits and get an early offer then they blow up later.
I’m not good with knowing high schools but how many of these guys are at smaller high schools where guys just aren’t being noticed?
We need him to pack on another 100 lbs to play d line.
Nemac just said his 3 names to watch are Earby, Vincic and Wright but all are around 50% for him.
Nemac is an idiot.
Well, his number 3 and the #3 i was referring to earlier are not the same. And my guy is a definite no, so good to hear Vincic is at least close to making a decision.
But if you’re at 50%, why bother putting it out there?
For clicks!
I listened to that segment from his podcast just now. He says something like “there’s been alot of buzz about Wright going to OSU”
No, there hasn’t been alot of buzz about that. The only time it’s been mentioned is my gut bomb up above. no other site has put in a crystal ball or futurecast prediction for Wright yet, to any school.
Pretty obvious Nemac reads AB.
Hi Andrew! What’s your prediction for UO vs OSU this year and how much do you think the beavs win by?
Yeah, but just think of all the crazy rumors you can start now that you have a pipeline to one of the sacred traditional media outlets.
Steven Jackson given 1 more yearof Eligibility! Also I heard that Simi Kuli will be suiting up for the beavs this fall.
Breaking 50% possible news on today’s episode of Recruiting with Numbnuts
Alot of guys are getting bumped right now. I saw the Utah qb that we missed on Johnson is an 89 now.
That’s because he talked to Jim Harbaugh a few times. If he had talked to JS more, he’d be more like an 86.
My birthday is tomorrow and I’m going to wish for a Wright commitment!
Happy preemptive birthday, boss.
Thanks man!
OT: May have been posted already but saw that former WBB player Aleah Goodman landed a recruiting/player personnel position at Duke. Congratulations to her!
Jack Washburn part of team USA baseball (collegiate national). Sucks he left.
Came across an OSU related podcast by some OSU fans. seems pretty decent so far.
https://twitter.com/BelligeBeavs
Quincy Wright just announced on Instagram that he is committing at 2pm.
What’s his handle?
I hate that guys are using instagram more and more
@baankroll.q
thanks brotha, good eye again
The fact that 2pm has passed in every time zone except PST seems to indicate good things for OSU, haha.
I dont get the whole timer widget saying it’a 8+ hours away. Must be some instagram thing that’s over my head
someone is telling me it’s 2PM tomorrow. 3rd hand info, so just FYI
Yup he just corrected it.
Dick I thought my birthday wish was going to come true. *sigh*
It’s sureal that how followers a college team has on Twitter with directly contribute to a players income.
Isaiah Dunn getting buzz in Jets camp. Could be a “significant contributor.”
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/07/02/jets-isaiah-dunn-proving-to-be-more-than-the-typical-undrafted-dude/
I think we’ll miss him this year. Underrated player IMO.
Is he the one that never had a pick in his college career?
Powers to FSU.
Refresh…refresh….refresh
Fwiw, Wright hasnt followed any new people in quite a few weeks. That is until today, he has followed 14 new accounts and they’re all Beaver fans or Beaver recruits.
Gut bomb streak seems pretty secure
Tht sounds solid!
Fuckin Nemec with his wishy washy 50/50 stuff. Gotta trust your gut
He just followed me recently.
Damn. I was reading latest followers rather than follows.
Carry on
Nemec with his wishy washy 50/50 and nicebeav with his social media misinterpretations. Lol
That’s what happens when you overthink it.
Gotta keep it simple.
Or as John King in the school of business used to say, Keep It Simple Stupid
KISS
Loved when he shot his nerf gun at unsuspecting chatty dudes.
Do you know if Wright had any other visits? 247 shows him visiting the Beavs but that’s it. Also shows he’s warm on Arkansas but no predictions.
Duncanville is easy driving distance from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and most of the major schools in Texas. Checking out his twitter I don’t see any unofficial or official visits.
Quincy changed the timer on his post. Maybe we see him committing tonight at 10?
OT- Any of you remember OSU LB from the 90s Joe Polamalu?
He’s my son’s guidance counselor and football coach down here in Cottage Grove. He took over the CGHS football program and he’s getting the middle school team unfucked also.
He’s also Troy Polamalu’s cousin and was his football coach at Douglas. Looking forward to some decent coaching because it’s been pretty poor so far.
He’s a bad coach….his Douglas teams were awful.
“Polamalu compiled a record of 29-30 in six years at Sandy, highlighted by a Northwest Oregon Conference co-title in 2016. He went 40-19 in five seasons at Douglas, winning two Far West League crowns and losing to Baker in the state championship game in 2010.”
He’s no Nick Saban but both of those records are better than what they’ve had down here. I haven’t met him yet, I was just surprised at the OSU connection, thought maybe someone here went to school with him.
Doesn’t hurt that my son has a nice set of OSU receiver gloves haha.
Former OSU lineman, Dustin Janz resigned as Oregon City HS head coach recently. No conference wins for two seasons in a row, OCHS has a decent football tradition and a nice stadium. I’m not in the know, but apparently, it was not an unpopular decision.
Niner gave the Dam Right
It’s Vincic niceee
Ok! 2 big time o line. Let’s get the d line tomorrow. Be huge.
If Keith Olsen locks in then this is a great OL class
I feel like that’s a for sure thing if it’s a committable offer.
We have had decent luck with recruiting OL out of high school and this looks to be another good class developing. Here we go by year for Smith.
2018 (.837) – Josh Gray (.86, R-Fr 7 game starter), (Jake Levengood (.8431, R-So 7 game starter), Marco Brewer (.8225, R-So, no play), Ronnie Audette (.8215, never showed)
2019 (.827) – Rob Vanderlaan (.8117, transfer East Carolina), Jacob Ferenczi (.8194, Fr), Thomas Sio (.8104, R-Fr), Nathan Eldridge (.86 T, Rs-J, 8 starts)
2020 (.817) – Cooper Darling (.8376, Fr), Taliese Fuaga (.8343, Fr), Tommy Spencer (.8234, Fr), Tyler Morano (.8072, Fr), Korbin Sorenson (.83 T, RS-Sr), Joe Quillin (.77 T, R-Fr)
2021 (.8291) – Jason White (.8626, Fr), Henry Buckles (.8248, Fr), Heneli Bloomfield (.80 T, So)
2022 (.8452) – Dylan Lopex (.8676), Luka Vincic (.8466) Keith Olsen [likely] (.8466), Jacon Strand (.8200)
Other Side Fun Progressions – OL Roster Height and Weight:
2018 – 6’4 319#
2019 – 6’4 296#
2020 – 6’4 294#
2021 (Spring) – 6’4 295#
It’s weird to see 2018 guys listed as RS Freshmen
Yeah Gray had that Grey shirt year haha
Isn’t Spencer a tight end?
He totally is
@NiceBeav I notice that were competing with Michigan for Colston Loveland and Jack Velling. Michigan already has a near 4 star Marlin Klein and a 50/50 crystal ball with #3 TE in the country Oscar Delp. I have to think that if they land Delp they will pull the offers for Loveland and Velling right? What team needs more than 2 high level TE in a class!?!? They already have 6 TE and only two are graduating after this season.
I havent looked closely at their situation, but makes sense to me. Hopefully Loveland/Velling see that logjam too. Maybe somebody should share that into with them…
What like an influencer?
Speaking of Loveland. He just announced on Instagram that he is committing tomorrow at 4pm MT.
Just based on the crystal balls and the people submitting them (Biggens, Huffman, etc) for Loveland, seems pretty certain he’ll end up at Michigan.
That should give us a solid shot at Velling.
If comments on twitter count for anything then It looks like OSU is gonna get a DT today. I don’t see a comment from any other school fan base!
https://twitter.com/QBaankroll/status/1411302104153706497
Hey, and I’m looking at the right tab this time. He has followed 1 account in the last 12 hours, and it’s the new OSU LB Grad Assistant.
His last follow before that was our very own ConnerJJ, which was quite awhile ago.
BASEBALL…..Real Baseball!
https://www.mlb.com/news/jackie-bradley-jr-deke-double-play
Dam Right alert. Hopefully Quincy
It is indeed NICEEEE
Huge deal. Not only a big dude in a big position of need but also another guy out of Duncanville. Zeriah Beason is from the same school.
Cool thing. If you add in Strands likely 9 points on the class calculator on 247 our current class is either 5th or 6th in the conference. Our average recruit rating is higher than Arizona.
That’s not very good. We always be bottom third with recruiting. However, factor in the transfers and development then you have a chance have done really good seasons here and there. Also less likely to have guys leave early.
Haven’t looked but you have yo figure in amount of commits. The average is the bigger thing IMO. The real indicator is time and production.
If you look back at classes its amazing how many players never finish their career with the school they start at. I think finding the right player that fits your school and system and wants to be there for 4 years or more is one of the biggest things you need to think about when recruiting. I think Smith and his staff does.
Our average assuming strand is .82 is .8515 which is good enough for 12th in the conference. That’s not nearly as fun though.
Is Wright on there yet?
Yup
That’s my point. You could be mid conference if you have more recruits than others but avg is important. Plus you figure smith is doing decent with little depth and lesser talent. What can he do now with more of both. Things are looking up.
Oh no I totally agree that average is the best measure, their weird points thing is silly. It’s just not as fun to look at average ranking in conference.
LOL
Two hours after Luka Vincic publicly committed on Twitter, Scott Eklund from dawgman (Huskies 247) entered a “crystal ball prediction” that he was 6 out of 10 sure that Vincic would commit to Oregon State.
https://247sports.com/PlayerInstitution/Luka-Vincic-at-Bothell-242565/CurrentExpertPredictions/
Someone told me Angie didnt submit a crystal ball for Wright until 5 minutes before his announcement. I reader asked her why she didnt do it earlier and she said she doesnt like to spoil a recruits announcement.
Seems dropping your prediction 5 minutes before an announcement is the definition of spoiling an announcement.
That’s why folks need to understand your gut bombs won’t be 100% because you make them in advance!!! Angie wants to have a high percentage of being accurate. I don’t follow her work much but she seems kinda lazy with the recruiting stuff. I see a lot of discounts being offered for a blitz subscription. Is her realtor gig a new thing?
hole baseball head coach MIGHT be to going zona
hole’s coach probably staying
Man I was bored and was looking up the beavs recruiting history. One stat that really stood out, we have had 13 four star recruits and 9 of them were busts.
Ya that’s kind of what I was saying with keeping them for their whole careers. A lot of them don’t qualify, medically retire, or transfer. Its important to find guys that are really committed to the school and the sport. If you find those type of guys most players will develop to at the least a solid special teams and role player.
Wonder if Earby is gonna commit soon.
FWIW, the next 2 guys on my radar are Earby and Olson. But I dont get the sense that either has a definite timetable
Would be amazing if we land them. Also how are we feeling about Shakaun bowser still?
I’m not flushing the Bowser gut bomb. Still feeling good.
Beaver fans really should be pumping up Bowser/Lane/Donaldson. They dont get enough focus from fan. Would make a nice complement to Wright in the middle of the line
Remind me Lane’s first name again.
Nevermind all listed at the top. Thx
Can’t sleep so I decided to look over some prospects 24/7 says we are “Warm” on and I discovered a couple of things I haven’t noticed before;
We have moved into “Warm” on Zeke Berry, who is a 4 star corner.
Found a high 3 star ATH named Carson Tabaracci that we are apparently “Warm” on. He’s also being recruited by other pac schools such as USC, UCLA and Utah. I’ve heard nothing about this kid so it’s interesting.
Also noticed that we’ve been put in the “Warm” category for high 4 star LB David Bailey as well. So might be an interesting thing to keep an eye on.
Also adding on about Carson. Looks like he has a lot more offers than I thought, those coming from Ohio state, ND, OK ST, UO, Michigan, etc. So ignore what I said about him most likely.
When your looking at the warm players or really anyone I look for visits. There are guys we are warm on on like Lamar Washington who haven’t taken any visits at all this season. There are others like Malik Agbo who we are warm with but has been visiting other schools. There are also guys like Donaldson who are cool on everyone but we’re his only visit.
Lamar most likely isn’t playing football in college
Why’s that?
Isn’t he focused on basketball? We need him in Gill. He has been tearing it up.
Basketball
ah yeah, he transferred to compass prep in Arizona too. Thats a big time basketball prep school right?
I pay way more attention to what NiceBeaver says about which prospects are really considering us than 247. 247 is slow to update and isn’t all that accurate with keeping up visitation dates. Twitter is also helpful, which prospects are considering us. They will like and retweet things related to the schools they are actually considering of if player commits or a coach posts something. This is why AB is gold. Get all the inside nuggets on recruiting. With that being said let’s get all those guys you mentioned!
Speaking of guys nobody is reporting on, I do think you should keep an eye on Kord Shaw.
The in state (Utah) schools are all recruiting him, but only OSU has offered so far, and I’ve confirmed it was a scholarship offer.
Good lord he looks like Ryan Nall playing receiver!?! How is this guy not even on 247?
Dont know. Similar to Nall, i dont think he fits a true position. I think the Beavs view him mostly as an ILB, but then he has the tools to play offense. Very much an ATH type of guy who you find a spot for after he spends an offseason in practices.
I keep forgetting about Lance Holtzclaw too. Had OSU in his top 6 when June started.
DE out of Arizona who we should have on our radar.
https://www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/basketball/ethan-thompson-pushing-to-improve-his-chances-in-professional-basketball/article_0c7fc97d-abf7-5fae-b4a6-72631a7d568a.html
I was thinking on the NIL era quite a bit last night and I’m not 100% sure it’s going to hurt the beavs that much. Yeah it will be rough against corporate sponsored schools like Oregon that can get a sponsorship contract to every single walk on punter. That’s a pretty unique situation though that even most big schools don’t have.
The argument OSU needs to use is big fish small pond and career earnings potential. OSU offers Two things that could be good for a blue chip 4/5 star.
1) college career earnings potential. Any 4/5 star that truly has the goods and work ethic should be able to get a full 2-3 years as a difference making starter. That may mean the total in the pond is low but they would get the majority share. If you compare that to a big boy school like Alabama you may ride the bench fo years stuck in a log jam earning nothing even with the same talent and work ethic. This is even true for places that recruit well like UCLA. They bring in 4 star talent every single year so the talent pool matures to being a starter very quickly and you may be surpassed by a younger player. Thus you end up transfering to a smaller market anyways and lose years of earning potential. OSU is a bad business decision for the truly great but the really good should have a think on being a 3 year starter and what that means financially.
2) Draft exposure. We are still a P5 team and for about 10 games a year you see our draft prospects against other draft prospects. If you’ve got the goods you could pull the lion’s share of available NIL money from Oregon state for 3 years while also gaining exposure every week as a potential NFL talent.
There’s a cross section of high 3 star and 4 star that we normally don’t get that this argument applies to. They are high enough ranked to get to Michigan but the potential logjam of talent hurts their earning potential and ability to be drafted. Come shine at OSU where you can get paid early and show the scouts what you can do for years instead of betting it all on 1 year as a starter.
One thing I’d like to know, since athletes are required to report their deals to their schools, would that make these deals part of public record at the state schools?
Would be noce to have some transparency to see what types of money is going into schools.
Unfortunately the USC, that would still leave the private schools the abaility to operate more under the radar, but seeing the Oregon vs OSU deals could be eye opening.
Hopefully some crack reporter at the oregonian will be on top of that.
The one good thing about all of this NIL bull is that they’re bringing back the NCAA football video game. I love that game and building OSU into a dynasty.
Wow, nice. That’s definitely the lone positive.
Going back to the Wright commit I don’t think it can be overstated how big of a commitment on many levels.
1. Second highest rated commit in class.
2. Huge position of need.
3. Another Texas recruit and the second out of duncanville which is fertile and where Beason came from.
4. With the transfer of Bennett adds a young big body at the DT. Could provide depth and play as a freshman.
5. Smith finally gets a big time DL recruit at the DT position and gets that monkey off his back there.
It’s strange that he doesn’t have more offers considering his high 3 star rating and size. We always hear about the rarity of the quality of big DTs and how the position is the hardest to recruit. Also considering the talent on the team you would think he wouldn’t fly under the radar but maybe just got overlooked because of that. All in all a very big time commit. Now just need to get him on campus and keep him there. Definitely would feel better getting another prep or transfer DT. Probably a transfer that has 2 or 3 years of eligibility would be best to spread out the class at the position.
Also on his highlights it says he’s a 4 star but I don’t see him rated that anywhere. Big discrepancy on his height and weight on different sites. You see that fairly often with weight but a 3 inch difference in height is quite a lot. I wonder what his measurements really are.
247 measurements are almost always from Junior year.
The lack of offers is interesting to me
Loveland to Michigan. This makes Velling eeasier to get.
At least JT Tuimoloau didn’t choose Oregon…that could have been insufferable. He chose Ohio State:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2021/07/04/ohio-state-lands-recruit-jt-tuimoloau-top-prospect-class-2021/7861003002/
“Tuimoloau, from Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish, Washington, picked Ohio State over Oregon, Washington and Southern California.
…
“The addition of Tuimoloau strengthens an Ohio State recruiting class that trailed only Alabama for highest-ranked in the country. Tuimoloau joins defensive end Jack Sawyer, who’s ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings.”
Can we get a new thread? Getting pretty bad.
