Ranking the 2018 class (Late Signees)

125

The early signees are here: http://angrybeavs.com/rankings/13575

I’m seeing some boom and bust with these late guys. Top heavy, and then a bunch of speculative prospects.

Matthew Tago **** – Only 4-star talent I see in this class. Really good size and athleticism. Speed isn’t great, but he’s no Pankey in that department, either, and should be fine.

Jermer Jefferson *** – Solid all around back, though nothing special stands out on film. He lacks breakaway speed and doesn’t have great cutting ability, but he’s highly productive playing strong competition.

Ronald Audette ** – This guy’s strength stands out. Yeah, you could say he’s playing vs small guys, but it’s still hard to toss one like a rag doll. Fun highlight film where his helmet is flying off in the snow and he’s blowing dudes up. Rough looking prospect in terms of his body type, but his strength stands out.

Jeromy Reichner ** High 2 star. Terrible offer sheet of Rhode Island and OSU, but at times he looks aggressive and explosive on film. At times his blocker simply misses him and makes him look good. So, tough read.
John McCartan ** 3 star prospect as a TE. 1 star on defense. Hate him on D. As a TE he looks a bit like Jimmy Graham. Very fluid and large.

Joshua Gray ** – He has a solid offer sheet, but upon watching his film nothing stands out, and he looks a bit maladroit. I feel I’m missing something since he has so many good offers…?

Jaden Robinson ** – Plays the ball well, finishes the interceptions, and shows good hands (no surprise since he’s also a WR). Lacks elite speed and agility you want in a CB, but looks like a decent player. Very bad offer sheet doesn’t make me feel better about what I’m seeing. He’ll have to outwork guys to be successful.

Jack Colletto ** – This guy has a rag arm and throws pumpkins, but he can run a bit and seems to have good accuracy. Also comes from a winning program and is intelligent. As I mentioned in a prior thread, I’m hoping Colletto is the under-recruited guy we always see on other teams and wonder why we didn’t recruit him (e.g. Luke Falk, Kellen Moore, et al). I can see him being productive even though he’s unorthodox. I can also see him getting completely annihilated by P-12 competition. Speculative QB get where you’re hoping, and as I like to say “hope is not a strategy.” I do like what I see better than Luton.

Semisi Saluni – Mission guy who we will never see until he’s 25 playing for BYU. Not worth the offer and not worth our time analyzing.

2018 Signing Day Thread

111

Alright, 2018 signing day is almost here. Thread is going up a bit early.

Later this week I will do a breakdown of each player and give out my ratings.

With this extra time, can you guys help point out which players are expected to move positions once at OSU? This will help me in analyzing their film and keep everyone in the loop.

Recruiting Week

420

Hey guys.

So general recruiting thread here, but feel free to go off topic. I’ll keep this thread up until signing day.

NiceBeaver has done a great job with recruiting info. In appreciation, half of the donations between now and singing day will go to him. I spoke with him about this in private, and he said doing the recruiting stuff is his donation to the site. Interesting perspective and one I appreciate, but still, if anyone was holding off on a donation this is a good time because NB will get something for his work.

We’ve made our hosting goal so big thanks to all who contributed. Oh, and the button below is Paypal. There was some confusion about that in the prior thread. You can also setup a small, monthly recurring donation via the button if you wish. It’s fancy like that. If you don’t want to donate, that’s cool, too.

Now, go Beavs — they’re finishing this recruiting cycle with what seems like a whimper, but I’m hoping for a surprise or two that’s a game changer.

General Thread / Recruiting

545

Time for a new thread.

We can stay general and open discussion, but with recruiting heating up that seems like a good topic, too. QB situation seems to be on peoples’ mind, and for good reason. None of the players in the mix are P5 players. The fact we can’t hand a highly rated guy the starting job as a freshman is concerning.

I still laugh when Tim Euhus and others on Twitter wrote “Is this really a big deal?” when Petras committed to Iowa. Um, yes. Could be the difference between a 4 year run and 4 years in the basement.

General Thread

It seems the last thread ran it’s course.

Anything goes.
