NFL Draft & Lol @ The Baseball Team

1. Sean Canfield goes in the 7th round to the Saints. That is way too low for an accurate passer who spent four years in a pro system and has an NFL frame. His arm is suspect and he has no mobility, but even still…

2. Keaton Kristick doesn’t get drafted. Is it wrong to be happy about this? The guy is a punk. The other two punks (Taylor Mays and Jimmy Clausen) were showed their place in the world as well, so the message from the NFL is crystal: stop acting like punks. So many Beaver fans were delusional about this guy, thinking he was all-world and a sure NFL pick. Objectivity wins again.

3. Speaking of Clausen, funny how pundits are already crowning him the starter. Heard a lot of “all he has to do is beat out Matt Moore, an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State.” Clearly said in the pejorative. It’s worth noting that a 5-star Notre Dame QB who hasn’t played a down has the edge, perception wise, over a Oregon State transfer who played to a 98 QB rating last season. I wonder if that would be the case if Moore remained a 4-star recruit who played in the more glamorous UCLA program. Bottom line, the national media is pathetic in their knowledge, objectivity, and integrity; and, it is slowly being realized by the populous as they, the media, work their way around the country spurning one fan-base at a time. There’s a reason blogs are becoming a valid source of information and opinions and gaining more traction with each passing day.

4. Damola Adeniji should have been drafted. I think this is a player who would thrive with certain organizations. The Colts come to mind.

5. The baseball team is about to get swept by Washington State. When you move beyond the rage, anger, frustration, etc, all you can do is laugh at these bums. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: everything has to go right for this team to win a game. If one of the three facets of the game is off they lose. They got away with this kind of play out of conference, but the Pac-10 is too good. You can’t blame Casey for this mess, but he hasn’t exactly handled the lineup well and he hasn’t been very creative in trying to generate runs. The law of averages will result in a small run by the Beavers at some point, but even that might be too little too late.

  1. I agree with you on the Canfield comments. Isn’t Riley running a pro-style offense supposed to help his QB’s and other key players get drafted or fly under the radar as free agents? The former would be the most ideal, but I think Canfield will grow learning from the 2010 Super Bowl Champion QB Drew Brees…How many players from around the country at QB could say that? Not many.

On the baseball note…I saw some of the game today and when the announcers talked about Berbaret being a pinch hitter for offense and then hits into a double play…I knew that was the dagger in the heart for the Beavers…I also think to myself…That’s Casey’s big plan in the lineup? Start with defense to keep it close, then if things get out of hand he’ll switch to offensive players…when ironically…the bats aren’t exactly making very good contact. Also, why was Robles “lobbing” cause he might as well have been where he was placing the ball. Either right down the middle, low and outside for strike, or it was a ball. He was predictable today. So 2 things were off, pitching and hitting…also errors don’t help..so everything went wrong.

    • When Robles is “on”, you still don’t have a ton of confidence in the guy because he doesn’t have confidence in himself. Even when he’s pitching well you get the sense it could all fall apart at any moment. The staff is shaky in that way as a whole. It’s why, despite the pedigree (one of the highest rated recruiting classes in school history), I keep saying this is a good staff (at best) not great. Something went wrong, and it’s probably in the evaluation process by recruiting services–they simply don’t invest a lot of resources into baseball. In the next few years I’d like to see us looking in state at gritty and mentally tough players if Oregon hasn’t surpassed us already in that talent pool.

    • Offensive linemen are always in demand, so he likely does.

I think he’ll be relegated to Mike Hass status, though…on a roster but never plays.

        • Not a bad place for Peat to end up. One thing that can be said of Cavanaugh is by the time he’s done with a player at OSU, they will at least have a chance of playing at the next level- which is demonstrated perfectly by Devan at the Colts.

And I don’t think Tampa Bay is such a bad place for Adeniji to end up, considering that Sammie Stroughter isn’t a bad guy to have by your side at camp.

  2. Beavs with a 3-1 lead in the 9th and “KRhod” in there trying to blow it. Hit his first batter in the 9th. With 2 out Casey brings in Boyd to face their 3 hitter for a lefty/lefty matchup. Boyd subsequently walks the 3 hitter. KRod comes back in (from left field) to give up a double. 3-2 Beavs. “KRhod” then falls behind the five hitter 2-0 before coming back to get the strikeout. Another heart attack save from “KRhod”, Casey showing no confidence in his closers, etc. Beavs salvage one.

  3. I always thought Kristick was a little overrated and I always took a lot of flak for my opinion on other sites. Am I the only one who thought he seemed out of position on a lot of crucial plays this year? When the USC game actually mattered, I thought he looked lost. Sometimes guys get the great player reputation and despite contrary eveidence, they cant shake it!

  4. Nice, Damola Adeniji signs with Tampa Bay. Bad situation/team for him, but I liked the guy and think he could make a good pro under the right circumstances.

  5. Caught the baseball game on FSN…pathetic display to say the least.

Glad to see Adeniji sign – hard working kid. Seems like he ought to find a niche with some one – good frame, great hands.

Caught the baseball game on FSN…pathetic display to say the least.

Kristick’s time in the NFL will be short. Just replay him squaring up Blount in the CW and getting bulldozed if you have any doubts about that. Blount’s are a dime a dozen in the NFL. Kristick is good at the late hit, 15 yard penalties, so if anyone is looking for that particular expertise, he might find a home.

Did I mention that the baseball game in Pullman was pathetic?

  6. I agree that it is no surprise Kristik didn’t get drafted but I never really thought of him as a punk. Am I missing something here. I think he has some pretty good football instincts and could be a solid project down the road if he continues to grow and develop.

  7. Casey has to shoulder some of the blame, every year he says we are not a great offensive team, every stkinking year! We haven’t had a quality outfielder since Cole Gillespie, (with the bat)this year Sanots was moved there, but that is hardly his strength it was more out of desparation.

Now that all the momentum is gone from the back to back welcome to mediocrity, witht he Ducks kicking our ass in yet another sport.

  8. Kristick may of been a bit overrated during his career, but that is subjective to the observer. Calling him a punk shows me that you have some sort of personal bias against him. Do you know him personally? And therefore have a reason to describe him as a punk. Please explain, inquiring minds are eager for your insight.

    • What kind of logic is this? I have to know Johnny Rotten or Sid Vicious personally to know he’s a punk???

Think about what you just wrote.

The GAMES are my insight (but let’s not also forget how he laid out Quiz with a cheap shot last spring that could have sidelined our best player for the season).

  9. Stupid mistake in the third. How do you not call time-out?

They’re still discussing how to score it. The announcers are wrong. They think it should be a stolen base. Since no time-out was called, it’s an inside the park HR.

  10. It was just a bad game. I didn’t see that the Beavs had any game plan whatsoever. It was almost as if Casey sent them out without any scouting report.

If he did that intentionally, then he might be trying to shock the team out of their slump. But it has to really start now. We can’t afford to lose more than one series from here on out… maybe two if we start sweeping some teams.

  11. I guess the OS baseball reign is over. Incredible how bad there guys really are. Slow, can’t hit, mediocre fielding, and underachieving pitching. That quick. They are off the map again.

I hope Clausen falls on his pissy little face. Another Golden Boy Golden Domer primadonna going after a low rated nobody from Oregon State. Still took Quinn a lot of work to finally chase DA out of town.

Good place for Canfield. Good team to be with. Brees is undersized and has had injury problems. I like Brees, but it’s fact. Can’t play forever, so maybe Canfield can get a break and take over a stocked team like God’s gift to QB’s, Tom Brady, did, a la Drew Bledsoe. Moore’s situation wasn’t that different. The guys like DA and even Joey H. get put on a piece of shit team, and they are doomed. Heisman candidates can’t get these teams rolling, year after year. Kitna, same fate. Now that he is with Dallas, a good team, he’s too old and has a young buck in front of him. Should have been there a couple years before when Dallas couldn’t field a QB.
