Oregon State @ San Diego State

330

Slow day and we're in need of a new thread so let's discuss baseball a day early.

Tomorrow  at 6pm it's OSU (4-0 and ranked #6 by Baseball America) vs 3-0 San Diego State. San Diego was ranked #25 before SDSU swept them, so this is a pretty good team.

Probable Starters: OSU RHP Dan Child (1-0, 3.60) vs. SDSU RHP Michael Cederoth (1-0, 1.80)

On Friday and Saturday we'll get our first look at the Beavs, as there will be video feed available on this site: http://goaztecs.cstv.com/library/live-baseball.html

Tomorrows game is radio only.

Also, if you'd like to discuss the basketball game tomorrow you can do it in this post. Just start an OT area and try to keep all replies chained to it so as to stay somewhat on topic.

General Discussion

I'm still trying to digest this new logo.

The fact that OSU won't comment means it's likely real.

This is my biggest issue: it doesn't convey OSU's reputation as a blue collar, hard working bunch. In fact, it doesn't convey anything. I look at it and literally feel nothing. I guess that's better than feeling repulsion while looking at the muskrat.

In short, better than looking at the muskrat, but I feel like we traded one logo that doesn't represent OSU for another.

Some things to consider:

  • If it is so difficult to make a logo, why make one at all (matte black helmets would be fine).
  • Why does the beaver have to look angry? The CA Parks logo is better than this one, and that beaver looks totally tame.

Open discussion.

Rebranded Logo

My thoughts in order:

  • The beaver looks like it has 1980s feathered hair.
  • Looks like a hockey logo.
  • As bad as it is, it's better than the current logo.
  • Sprague reporting this isn't the new logo. Feeling relief but also apprehension (i.e. it could be worse).

Ranking the 2013 Recruiting Class

126

First off, great work by Riley and staff. The classes keep getting better each year. Needed DT/CBs and stockpiled quality players are those positions.

Very difficult class to rank because there are so many good players. Gave it a shot anyway. Rankings are in order (e.g. Hunt > Nelson, etc). Some guys (e.g. Huatau) had inconclusive film (shot at weird angle, player wasn’t highlighted, etc).

*****

Dashon Hunt

Hunter Jarmon

Steven Nelson

****

Corey Lawrence (love this guy, reminds me of Randall Cobb). Only thing that might hold him back is no natural position.

Charlie Tuaau

Brandon Arnold

Edwin Delva

Kyle Peko (if he can stay in school)

Victor Bolden

***

Lyndon Tulimasealii

Sean Harlow (I know a lot of people think this guy is 4 or 5 talent, I don’t see it. High 3-star/good player but not elite).

Charles Okonkwo

Kyle Kempt

Lawrence Mattison

Jordan Villamin

Damian Haskins

Walter Jones

Justin Strong

Terin Solomon

Titus Failauga

Siale Huatau

**

Michael Greer (warmed up to him a little. Big weakness is lateral speed).
